Best lube out there, it re-cleans the chain every time you use it and does not build up, it is a thin lube. Yes, you have to lube a bit more frequently, but it is amazingly smooth after you do (has embedded teflon or somesuch stuff).

At least on a road bike dirt, grim & grit don’t seem to stick to it very well. Be sure you lube your chain the day before you plan to ride so the more volatile part of the lube evaporates or you can get some sling off — just overnight and you are fine the next day.

I have used this stuff almost since its first introduction. It was developed by NASCAR engineers. I remember talking to the manufacturer directly several years ago just to question some of their seemingly outrageous and overly optimistic claims.

The rep told me that I “might never have to replace a chain again” if I kept it clean and lubed. I told him that such a claim was a little over the top! Nevertheless, I still like the stuff because it is not greasy and it is easy to clean and it doesn’t take much to be effective.

My only quibble is that because it is so thin and nearly clear, it is very tedious to apply. Just take your time. I appealed to the company to develop a better applicator top, perhaps something like a small brush head versus just a drip but nothing yet.

They recommend you apply it and then let it dry overnight, as the formula actually bonds to the metal surfaces. I try to remember to do that, as it results in less grit accumulating. PROS: Versatile BEST USES: Mountain Bikes, Road Bikes.

I have used various high quality lubes in the past, all the big names, but I keep coming back to ProLink. I like ProLink because it acts as a decent cleaner and a great lubricant. It’s a lower viscosity oil, so you’ll have to apply it a bit more often than the thicker stuff.

I usually apply this stuff about every 150-ish miles. I believe that some people really overcomplicate the process of oiling a chain by using fancy chain cleaning tools, degreasers, extended soaks in oil and/or mineral spirit baths, etc.

I’ll share my personal technique below. I’m not claiming this is the best way to do it, but it’s very easy and I get just as many miles out of my chains as I did back when I overcomplicated this process, if not more.

I’m a full-blown cycler who puts on a good amount of miles annually, so I’ve gone through plenty of chains and have tried various techniques. Below is all I ever do anymore. First, there’s no need to use degreaser unless your chain is rusty.

I’m in the camp that believes degreasers do more harm than good by allowing subtle debris to work its way deeper into the chain. Also, I believe that degreaser can flush deeply penetrated lube out, which can be hard to re-apply.

ProLink does a good enough job cleaning and your chain will still look fairly shiny. 1. – Wipe chain vigorously with a dry rag (just hold the chain with a rag and pedal backwards). 2. – Apply a drop of lube on each roller.

3. – Wipe chain vigorously again. 4. – Re-apply a drop of lube on each roller, try to get it between the roller and the plates for better penetration. 5. – Let it sit for at least 30 minutes, while doing so pedal backwards on occasion to allow the lube to move around inside the chain.

6. – Wipe your chain vigorously again. You don’t want the outside of your chain to be wet with oil, this will only gum up your drive-train by turning your chain into a dirt magnet (also if you don’t wipe it enough then you’ll get those dirty marks on your leg).

That’s it. Keep it simple, the chain is a disposable part and I have noticed no added life by using degreasers and more involved cleaning/lubing techniques. As a side note we own an indoor cycling studio we use ProLube on our indoor cycles too.

Good and reasonably lasting lubrication and quite clean down to 0 degrees Celcius. Below that it turns stiff and uncompliant, drag increases noticeably. So despite its name not really suited for winter use.

Fully syntetic motor oil then works so much better, no problems at minus 20, albeit also much dirtier. Cleaner alternatives are Banana Slip all weather lube, with or without tungsten. Prefer without for environmental reasons, and its almost as good.

Started using this once my previous winter lube ran out and SS didn’t sell it. Hasn’t disappointed, however, I clean my chain regularly and lube up. Seems to last in the interim with no chain grind. Goes on a treat as I run it over a few links and rotate.

Heard about this winter wax being cleaner than wet lube. Was suspicious at first, but it seems to work. It washes out after wet rides, but the chain is still really clean. I apply some more when I wash down the bike and its good to go again.

Only downside is you have to degrease the chain before you use it, but you only need to do it the first time. After that just reapply when needed.

I’ve used this in the past with good results. I stopped using it because I had tons of extra differential oil in the garage. I used that for awhile after watching FortNine’s positive review of the stuff.

It works fine, but it has far too much fling. It gets everywhere and is a pain to constantly clean. After I decided to stop using diff oil, I was determined to find the best chain lube on the market.

After seeing this product do so well I decided to return to it for off road riding.

Since 2010 I have been using this chain lube, first on my new chain which is still installed after 51k kms. I spray my chain approx every 500 to 600 kms. I dont wait as recommended at 800 or a 1000kms.

I own a street cruiser bike not a dirt bike which in comparison affects chain life substantialy in addition to riding style and technique. I attribute the long chain life mainly to this product as well to the quality of my x chain plus the fact I don’t hard accelerate from stop or at low speeds.

I do most of my spirted riding including moderate and sometimes heavy accelerating while in 4th or 5th gear. This factor helps considering my bikes 535lb mass is already in motion as opposed from still, or a dead stop then accelerating moderately or heavy up to speed.

This product is super clean and sets up to a waxy film within a few minutes up to 10 minutes, pending OAT. It sprays on nice without dripping not making a mess or waste, but is thin enough to penetrate the links and rollers before setup time to wax.

You will have the cleanest rim in comparison to any belt driven bike or another lubricating product. It stays on the chain ! It’s about the wax base lubricants that contributes to excellent lubrication and clinging to the chain with very little or no fly off.

And the best thing about it is you never need to clean your chain including wipping it down. There is no need, simply because this product is very clean and waxy and over time it cleans itself without buildup on the rim.

This of course no introduction of dust or road dirt. Having wrote the above if you get caught in the rain driving more then 50kms or so the priduct like most will wash off, hence the chain gets cleaned, but dont continue driving many kms in the rain as you don’t want an unlubricated chain !! Price point it has gone up considerably over the last few years, but if you are long term chain guy/girl I suggest buying two or three cans at one time, shopping of course for best price! In conclusion, no need to buy very expensive synethic based products which in most cases will perform the same as this product and some leave more dirt and buildup from flying off onto the rim.

I hope as long as I am a chain guy that I can keep buying Maxima ! !.

I have used Belray chain lube/wax for nearly 30 years with no complaints until I finally got a gold chain. I was using the Belray super clean and when I finally bought a gold chain it looked like a 2 year old with a box of white crayon’s went at it Everytime I cleaned and lubed the chain which kind of negates the whole reason we run gold chains(because they look better than black).

A friend of mine told me about the Maxima chain wax so I have it a shot and absolutely love it. It goes on a tan, brownish color and really wet like Belray so it soaks into the places you want the lube to be then it gets tacky after a few minutes when applied to a warm chain but after a couple hours it fully cures into a no fling almost dry lubed that nothing sticks to and just so happens to be gold in color.

The key to using this lube is warm your chain, spray or on and let it set up for a couple hours before you ride and you will be pleased with the results. This is not a spray and go lube unless you want it everywhere except the chain.

This has never been a problem for me as I always wash my bike and clean the chain before the next ride. It’s a very good lube for us track and off-road riders period. – -m-DIRT BIKE–.

Mostly dry dusty conditions here. I have been using Rock N Roll Extreme (blue) for years now. Keeps the chain clean, good for several dry rides before needing to reapply. You can reapply and wipe excess of chain which cleans the chain quite a few times before really needing to get in and wash your drive train.

Colorado also dumps heavy rain at times. I have used this in very wet conditions and rain. Not sure if anything really works well with wet grit, sand and mud on the chain. The only thing I can say is once you get home it is really easy to wash and clean your drive train and chain when Rock N Roll was used in comparison to using a super wet condition chain formula which is usually sticky, greasy, waxy and hard to clean off.

Some of my friends have moved on to using another type of chain cleaner lubricant. They say it is better, but I didn’t have the time to investigate and bought into a 16oz bottle of Rock N Roll. This is good stuff and will be using it for as long as that bottle lasts which could be a couple years more.

I ride a fairly high end Roadbike and am meticulous about maintenance. I’ve tried just about every lube available and many have been exceprionally good at reducing wear but they always eventually left gunk on my chain and pulleys.

Then I tried Extreme Purple and it was good, but didnt last long. My LBS gave me my first bottle of this Rock & Roll Gold to try and I really liked it it left my drivetrain clean and quiet, but at first, i felt it also didnt last very long.

But what I discovered was that with multiple applications, the longevity increased. There’s a great video on You Tube by Friction Facts that scientifically tests the different lubes and this stuff ranks amonst the top performers for friction reduction.

Completely degrease your chain first or your first couple of applications will be pulling out gummy lube out the chain. I removed mine and shook it in a bath of mineral spirits to remove all the old lube.

Now I only use this stuff and maintenance is muh easier.

Been using this for cycle touring, 1300km so far on pavement, forestry roads and single track. Most days are wet. Even with the lightest application it goops up on your pulley wheels and chainrings attracting sand and organic matter (larch needles in particular) into your drivetrain.

It does last a long time, even if it’s full of sand. I suppose if you have an hour to oil your chain you can do what other reviewers have suggested, but i can’t be bothered. Switching to finishline until the snow flies, maybe Phil’s is better in the winter with less dirt and organic matter around.

This is my second bottle in 35 years. Hadn’t needed any oil or lubricant in a while. I hadn’t been riding my as much. December 2014 I had bi-lateral hip surgery. (Both hips replaced) Started putting on more mile per week (125) recently.

My bike chain was stiff and noisy. i tried silicone and a tri-flow, the noise would go away for about 15 miles and then start again. The chain seem to stiffen back up. When the Phil’s came I just put a bead of it on the chain while I turn it.

Wiped off the excess, which wasn’t much. And now after 245 miles, not a squeak and the chain is not stiff. Just a dab will do it. I would use it on any thing that needs a little lube.

This oil is so viscous its sticky. I found it difficult to remove the excess residue, and it picked up dirt like nothing I’ve used in the past. But my main concern is that I don’t believe it is getting inside the chain – to the rollers and pins (and maybe not between the overlapping surfaces of the inner and outer plates).

Its hard to imagine this product flowing into tight spaces. If you are mainly concerned with wear between outer surfaces of the chain and the chain ring teeth, this might be perfect. But I would need to see lab tests proving it gets inside before I would be content to continue using it.

(My 3 star rating for “effectiveness” is a guess. Correct answer is “I don’t know if it is effective”).

Never got to try the product. Ordered and had it shipped to me but the liquid had leaked out and what a mess! Don’t advise having this item shipped. Product needs to be shaken before use and much of the contents had leaked out before it was shaken thus making the remaining product incomplete for use.

Keep the chain clean and lubricated. The lube smell good as well, yes… it doesn’t have the strong smell like others bike lube.

At first it looks like a light lube ,but, each and every time I use it – by it end of the ride the chain is very greasy and black dirty and need to soap clean it. I wouldn’t recommend it. Though it smell nice.

Back to good old “rock n roll” lube.

I have used almost every chain product over the years. We used to just get non specific lithium grease and 3 n 1 oil. Now the application specific products like ProGold and others make riding a much better experience.

Weather and riding conditions require that you have the right set up for the best riding. This lube has been my go to chain treatment for road and mountain biking. I use a thinner coating for road and more liberal application for mountain biking.

Go for it. Pro Gold is super.

I love this product. Easy to use and works great for all weather conditions. The only trade off for it’s exceptional protection is that it can be a bit messier than dry lube. Once again though, worth a little clean up for the great protection.

If you love your bike as much as I do, you would not want to use anything less.

Im used to the regular ProGold lube but it is a bit light and doesnt last that long. The extreme lube seems great so far. Im using it through the winter ( I keep my chain super clean and re-lube as required).

So far, I think it justifies the extra cost over the regular ProGold product.

Had to write a review to warn of others. This dry lube is just not good. After cleaning the drive train and applying the lube to the chain etc i’d get maybe 100ish km out before a reapplication was needed.

My drive train was always a bit on the noisy side compared to WD-40 dry lube. Shifting was also a bit noisy. Its a wax based formula. maybe thats why? It does come off really easily during cleaning i will give them this point and it doesn’t attract as much dirt/grime compared to some of the other brands (assuming you are wiping off the excess).

But having to reapply before every ride its a pain in the behind. With other dry lubes i got 500-800 km before needing a cleanup and reapplication.

If applied correctly, it will work great. you need to clean your chain and drive train and then apply this solution. letting it dry for 3 hrs before riding. Good: Really good lubricant – tested by a youtuber.

Used on my Trek SL6 Emonda with Ultegra groupset. I ride a fairly high mileage and have a regular and well established degreasing, cleaning, maintenance and oiling regime. I followed my normal regime and then used this oil for the first time.

OMG! I set out on a 100 kms ride and had to turn around after only 10 kms. The noise coming from the chain and cassette was unbelievable and completely unbearable. Squeak, squeak, crunch, grrrrr, squeak, crunch, It was akin to picking up an abandoned bike left in a field for a year and trying to ride it home.

Terrible. When I got home I re degreased the chain and cassette, applied some pretty cheap oil I had lying around and. perfect 🙂 I won’t dispute if this product actually does the job of lubricating the parts as it’s supposed to do, however, be warned, if you buy this oil better get yourself some headphones to go with it.

Couldn’t be more disappointed, Complete waste of money on what is supposed to be a premium product.

I’ve been using this stuff for ~20 years on road and mtb. It’s liquid, but sets up to a slushy semisolid once the solvent evaporates. (similar to T-9) It runs quietly, I get good chain life, and it doesn’t accumulate dirt like other wet lubes.

I’ve used it in damp/wet conditions and in dry dusty conditions with good results. I apply it fairly frequently putting a drop on each roller, rotating the crank a bunch of times, then wiping off any excess with a old terrycloth rag.

There are many other lubes out there with miracle claims, but this stuff has worked well for me.

Yes. I’ve had plenty of experience with it on road bikes, MTBs, commuter bikes & in slushy Toronto weather. This had been the only product I used so just got used to my chain becoming dirty very quickly.

It is a thin lubricant and lubes well with repeated application but I found that my chains become black and greasy over a short time. If you are diligent with regular/routine drivetrain degreasing you’ll be fine.

But if you let it go too long your drive chain will become very dirty with this product–even after application. As one reviewer had already mentioned, your chain must be immaculately before application or it will draw out the unseen residue and it’ll collect on the cogs and side plates.

I have since switched to Purple Extreme and I’m much happier with this product. It is also thin lube but so far my chains have stayed cleaner over a longer intervals. Give this a try if you are picky about having a fresh crispy drivetrains.

Not sure why there are so many bad reviews. I’ve been an avid cyclist for a very long time, and I’ve tried a lot of lubes. This stuff is hands down the best lube I’ve ever tried. It has a great balance of not attracting dirt and longevity.

There may be better lubes for very wet conditions (but they’ll probably attract more dirt), but all things considered it performs well in the wet, and is, IMO, unparalleled in average dry cycling conditions.

This lube is awesome because it leaves very little residue (follow the directions and wipe the chain a minute after applying) so doesn’t build up if you don’t clean your bike every ride. I’ve only had grime buildup in the nooks and crannies of the links after rides in dusty conditions.

As advertised, it’s good for one ride in wet conditions up to a few rides in dry, non-dusty conditions. However, the aerosol dispenser is terrible for lubing chains because it wastes at least half of what comes out and lubes the side of your rim, tire and the ground.

Why sell only wet OR dry chain lube in squeeze bottles, but not this superior lube? Please offer this fantastic lube in a better container (e. g. a 500mL HDPE bottle similar to dish soap) so I’m not wasting my money, lubricating my tires and polluting!.

Since purchasing my first mountain bike a year ago, I’ve quickly come to realize the importance of a high quality chain lube. I’ve used quite a few brands so far and this WD-40 chain lube is my favorite.

I enjoy riding in the winter, but regular snows cause plenty of wet and muddy conditions. This is the first chain lube that I’ve found that works great in both of these conditions. I apply before my ride on a clean chain and get back home with the chain looking great.

It really does seem to repel most (if not all) of the mud and water. I haven’t used this much in dry conditions, so not sure how it would work there, but am beyond pleased with the performance in wet muddy conditions.

Great quality as I’ve come to expect with WD-40.

Most trusted name in the lubricant industry lives up to its name. Ran the bike through puddles, and the lube stayed on through several rides, and kept the bike running smoothly. I like the easy to apply, small bottle size and the lid stays secure so you can put it in your pocket or in your pack, and it’s not going to leak.

Used sparingly along the chain and it was very effective. Could tell an ease-of-pedaling difference. I like to keep my chain somewhat on the dry side, and just apply the WD a little every so often. Doesn’t need much.

I actually plan to try this on my hedge trimmers in my lawncare business. I use regular WD-40, but this may actually work even better. I would strongly recommend it to anyone.

We used to use a different lube, but we were introduced to Dumonde tech on our bike team. It doesn’t attract and hold dirt and gunk like our previous lube. So it’s easier to clean the drivetrain, and the drivetrain also does not need to be deep cleaned as often! Really great stuff and so happy to have found it after 10 years of de-gunking our drivetrains constantly!.

I forgot my T9 on a trip to Doctor Park and picked up a vial of Dumonde Tech at a bike shop in the Gunny. It performed well the chain was quiet and shifted well. It also built up an admirable amount of gunk on the chain and cassette.

It’s still mostly full but ready to fill in as the backup chainlube.

This chain lube is good, but it does tend to attract road grime. I always clean my chain pulleys after each ride. Every 1000 miles or so, I remove my chain, soak in Simple Green, and then lubricate with Dumonde Tech Lite.

The wax lube that I have used has one significant drawback – it comes off in no time on sandy trails. That’s the reason why I had decided to try this lube. Having used it twice I know that it might be good for bolts, pulleys and cables, but it is definitely unsuitable for chain lubrication.

Since the draivtrain even after 30 km of riding in city condition is a total mess and creaks as hell.

Earlier i was using only wd40 for cleaning the chain and was running it dry, but after using park tool synthetic oil the previous noise of running dry chain vanished and it became very smooth. Also riding on elevation is a lot easier with less effort as compared to earlier.

Only one drawback is that the chain is attracting a lot more dust as compared to the dry one.

I tried this chain lube as it is a respected brand and expensive, so it has to be good, right? I throughly cleaned and dried my mtb chain and entire driveline (SRAM 1×12 Eagle) then shook the bottle and applied a drip to every link on the chain.

After the solvent evaporated it looked like there was nothing there! Went for a ride and the gear change was ok but the drive line noise was higher than I have experienced with wet lubes. After only a 5 mile dry ride the noise and change were concerning.

I thought there was a problem with the drive! I applied extra lube which helped for a while but then noise returned. I cleaned the whole driveline and went back to my regular cheap wet oil lube. Now the driveline was back to its perfect change and near total silence.

So not impressed with this Finish Line Teflon Plus Dry chain lube.

So much cleaner than the wet variety! I remove my chain and after degrease and cleaning, let it sit in this lube while I clean the rest of the drive train, then wipe it down and replace chain. works great and doesn’t seem to collect as much grit and grime as the wet lubes.

I ride a full suspension MTB on and off road and use this procedure about every 200-250 miles. about 2 or 3 weeks. 8 oz bottle probably a 6 month supply for me. Gets a thumbs up from me!.

I reapply every 150 or 200 miles. Every 600 miles i remove the chain and cassettes and clean with a safe solvent and dry the chain the sun. Then apply the FLTP lube once, wait overnight then reapply.

Keeps the chain quiet and increases the life of the drivetrain.

My experience with this lube is that if it’s applied correctly, it’s awesome. My drive chain has been running silently and smoothly since I started using it. That said, application is finicky and to get anything out of it, you need to follow the instructions to the letter.

If you expect to use this stuff 5 minutes before heading out on a dusty 50 mile ride, you are going to be seriously disappointed as it tends to turn into a oily sticky mess. As per the bottle: 1. Clean your chain! Really, it should be completely and thoroughly degreased.

This stuff dosen’t want to stick to any part that is covered in grease, dirt or oil. 2. After cleaning, let your chain dry completely. The lube’s carrier appears to be hydrophobic, meaning if your chain is wet, it won’t stick and just beads up.

3. Let the lube dry out after application. The instructions say to wait at least 3-4 hours, but in my experience it’s best to let it sit overnight. 4. Use the UV Light. It works, and you can see links that clearly don’t have lube in the rollers.

You can also see if the lube is beading up and not sticking to the metal.

I couldn’t be more impressed with this lube. Compared to other lubes I’ve used in the past, this lasts at least a few rides (in dry conditions). If you apply it at least an hour before a ride (3-4 hours is recommended) it will penetrate perfectly and have you pedaling with a silent drivetrain.

And if you follow the instructions, it really doesn’t attract dirt/dust much. A quick wipe down with an all purpose cleaner every few rides and re-applying and you’ll be able to go weeks or months without having to deep clean your drivetrain.

Super impressed and will continue buying and using this lube for mountain and road riding.

The Muc-Off Ceramic Bike Lubricant is one of their premium lubricants, apart from the Sky version, which is much higher priced. I would suggest that the product is ordered online and paid for and collected in store, as the online price is cheaper than going to the store and paying for it off the shelf.

Ordering online and going to the store to collect and pay can be done within one hour and it’s a simple process. THE LUBRICANT IS EASY TO APPLY – I just put a drop of oil on each link and slowly rotate the chain to the next section that requires a drop on each link.

This method uses less oil than rotating the chain and continuously pouring oil on the chain as it quickly goes round. I just simply use the flourescent light to ensure that the oil has penetrated down into each link, then leave the chain for 3 – 4 hours to dry, then I am ready to cycle.

I wanted a light weight chain Lube for my 8 day tour to France to save weight and space. I can not say there is anything wrong with the lube but this tin barely managed to oil the chain once. Frankly its too small to do the job.

You could buy 2 but itvstarts to look pricy then. If it were 100 ml in the same size can that would be worthwhile.

Received product after ordering and applied according to description. That is to say, the chain is well degreased, rinsed and dried and then Muc-off dry lube applied. In good weather conditions, the chain must now continue to run smoothly and remain nice and clean.

I am very curious about the experience. For a chain, it always applies that you check the lubrication in time. There’s nothing worse than a noisy chain destroying your sprockets.

Bought for a recent week long trip to Scotland (rained every day!). This lube kept the chain in good condition and easy to use, however ran out after about 5 days. Felt that there should have been more product in the can, or maybe just needs to be bigger! Wouldn’t have needed to use every day if weather was dry as it would have kept the chain in good condition and not got washed off.

the majority of the work with this drip wax formula is in the initial setup: you must strip an existing chain and drivetrain of its oil (attainable with CS’ drivetrain clean). once you’ve completed this task, it’s as easy as any oil-based lubricant—with the exception that you’ve got to remember to do it the night before (or about 8 hours) a ride, to allow the water component to evaporate.

i don’t have the luxury of babysitting a true wax crockpot setup, so this is perfect for me. as for the drivetrain experience using UFO drip: it’s fantastic. the lube lasts ~200 miles in dry/non-dusty conditions, and is quiet and oh-so-clean.

given that muck/dirt are main culprits in drivetrain wear and the supply chain issues that face all cyclists—this is an obvious choice to extend the life of your drivetrain! i have converted all my bikes over to this drip wax and have recommended to several cycling friends.

I bought two bottles, one upon release and one this February. I love how easy it is to apply, it runs very clean, feels fast, sticks well to the chain on application, all good. Probably the best lube I’ve used… And then, I wanted to apply Drip to my chain after maybe 2 weeks of no application.

Nothing came out of the bottle. I unscrewed the nozzle, and it was completely clogged. No line could get out anymore. I then carefully removed everything that had dried up, up there were loads of chucks already in the bottle.

Checked the other bottle that I kept in my house since February (the other was kept dry and protected from sunlight in my workshop, around 70F). Same exact issue. I really like CS products, run Coated BBs on all my bikes, OSPW on all my race bikes and used the old formula of UFO drip for years.

Now, I thought I had found the ultimate drip, but it apparently doesn’t last long. Very upsetting.

So far I have used the traditional Squirt, already a great product. It is a lubricant that creates a dry film around the chain, without dirt. Do not fear water, dust or mud. The formula for VTTAE is even better suited.

Electric assistance puts stress on the chain and sprockets much higher and this product virtually eliminates friction.

I use it on a country bike, not electric. One chain lubrication is enough for 100-120 km. In good weather.

Easy to use chain wax. Last quite well. The chains are not as oily/dirty and are also easy to clean.

I’ve been chain waxing for over two years now and likely will never go back to standard chain lube. I bought the SSCC to use during trips (usually mountain bike) when I can’t bring an extra, waxed chain or when two chains isn’t enough to make it through a trip.

A week in the Colorado high desert last week was such a time. The very dry and dusty/sandy conditions would challenge any lubrication method. And while I’m convinced that waxing is the best for these conditions in particular, even the SSCC had a tough time.

It was easy to apply and not messy, which you can never say about standard lubes. After a quick alcohol and cloth clean to get whatever dust is on the chain, I applied a generous layer on each link, backpedaled several times, wiped off some excess, and let the bikes sit overnight.

The first treatment on our first chains only lasted about 10-15 miles of our 20+ mile ride the next day. But the treatment on our second chains did last through a ride in nearly the same conditions. Who knows if I just did a better application or if our second chains had better initial immersion wax treatment to start? Bottom line is that this stuff did work.

I was impressed that it worked nearly as well as immersion waxing, didn’t ruin the immersion wax treatment like a standard lube would have done, and was almost as clean as a normal wax job. Anyone doing such riding as we did in Fruita, CO would be re-lubing after each ride if they cared about their drivetrain.

If I keep that in mind then this stuff is worlds better than standard chain lube. It’s a great option to extend any immersion chain wax when you don’t have normal access to your normal waxing routine.

Although I have been riding probikes since 1972, I do not know a thing that I can prove myself about lubricating chains. In 1975 I talked to Skip Cutting after he had returned from doing 6 Day races in Europe.

While he was there he picked up from other racers treating his chain with paraffin wax. Skip was cycling diety in California so I started lo-temp cooking my chains in an abandoned wax filled sauce pan.

After the previous few years of oily disgusting messes the fun of tiny flakes of wax flying off my chain as I pedaled seemed brilliant. Other than the improved aesthetic I perceived no performance change.

So around 2010 I saw some article somewhere scientifically measuring some saving of watts and some measurable decrease in wear when applying wax to chains. Waxing chains is now as new as gravel riding, especially to gravel riders.

So experts who are running repeatable tests state that SILCA Super Secret Chain Lube is the next best chain treatment after chain waxing. SILCA Super Secret Chain Lube is a lot more convenient than waxing though.

That’s all I know for sure. The rest I am taking other peoples’ word for it.

I use this on my mountain bike. I have been a fan of wax based lubes since White Lightning first came out because it made sense to me more than oil. What causes wear isn’t the lubricating properties of the medium used rather its the contamination, the grit reaching the inner chain.

Oils can be slippery but also immediately transport grit where ever the oil is. Wax packs inside and out. Whatever does manage to contaminate simply flakes off, leaving the inside free of grit and relatively clean outside.

The problem with early waxes was they would completely shed from the chain in cold Temps. Squirt was a significant improvement in longevity but was far tackier a substance that would build up this Silca product is perfect, clean yet lasts.

I’m not counting Watts but am more than pleased with drive train smoothness and a chain that never squeaks. My chain just refuses to wear. 10/10.

I’ve always grown up with WD-40 products in our household and we use it for anything and everything! When I had the chance to try their WD-40 BIKE® – All-Conditions Chain Lube, I was pretty excited! At first, I was thrown off by it’s small size but then I quickly realized that it’s actually perfect for spraying bicycle chains because it’s smaller it can get into the tight areas that larger cans can’t reach.

I like that they include their iconic spray extender on the can like their original product, it really helps to get in the spaces of the bike chains that can be hard to access. I used the WD-40 BIKE® – All-Conditions Chain Lube on my 6 year old sons bike, which he leaves out in the rain all the time! His chain is a little rusty and squeaky but this specific chain lube helped tremendously! I sprayed the product on very thoroughly and let it sit a few minutes and wiped it off then sprayed it again.

He was off to riding his bike with no loud squeaks and he says it’s a very smooth ride now. I’m actually very impressed by theWD-40 BIKE® – All-Conditions Chain Lube, I know that we will be making this a permanent tool in our house!.

I have been riding a long time, bicycles. road MTB and now gravel, and own, and have owned many chain-driven motorcycles over the decades. First, do not use MC chain lubricant on bicycle chains and vice versa.

They are engineered for different chains/RPMs/conditions. Second, I use “DRY” on my gravel bike, and it works just fine in all conditions. I also like to keep my chain and cassette/deraliuer spotless and lubed between rides.

I don’t clean/degrease and lube after every ride, but no more than 3 rides of 25-30kms and then its time. not for everyone, but I’m a little OCD when it comes to my maintaining bikes. I ride mostly on a mix of grushed gravel and packed dirt, and combinations thereof.

The fine crushed gravel will mess up your drive-train in a hurry if you don’t pay attention. Finaly, I am not sure of the reference of the “citronelle smell” or odour is, but I can’t smell anything from this product.

And I do not have any medical issues, so I guess some peoples noses are more sensitive than others. In summation, I would say for the price, you will get a lot of use if used as directed. It is all dependant on how often you ride, where you ride and how hard you ride.
