20 Best Gray For Exterior Paint (2023 Updated)

I’m writing this review 4 months after painting the floor in my basement utility/storage room with this paint. The floor was previously painted green by previous owners decades ago and was covered with dirt, splatters and stains of all kinds that accumulated over the years.

It was filthy and looked horrible. I throughly cleaned the floor and lightly sanded the surface before applying this paint. It covered very well as one coat was enough to completely hide any hint or traces of the previous paint and stains, but I put a second one on anyways even though from a visual point of view it didn’t need a second coat.

Like others, one thing I found out the hard way is while the paint dries quickly, you can’t get the floor wet for at least a month. A week or so after I painted I went to wipe something off the floor with a damp cloth and the paint came up with it.

Valspar should mention this on the can as an aftercare instruction. No problem, it was just a small spot, so I lightly sanded and spot painted it. Today I can wash the floor with soapy water with no problem.

As for durability, I have dropped tools and dragged things across the floor with no effect on the paint and as long as it doesn’t get wet, it seems quite durable after 24 hours. One other concern I had about painting the floor was being driven out of my house by strong paint fumes much like my dad was back in the day when he painted his basement floor with old school oil-based floor paint.

Yes, this paint is low odor and nothing like those old school oil-based floor paints, but it could still be smelled throughout my entire house after I applied it. Not strongly but enough that it wasn’t pleasant, but a day later the smell was gone.

If you are sensitive to these things wait until a time when you can open the windows. If you are looking to paint a previously painted basement floor, I’d say this is a pretty good choice as long as you are careful for the first 4 weeks.

My poor floors look so terrible before I bought this {period} this flooring had been laid in 1924 and in 2020 it needed a serious facelift. I would highly recommend this product to anybody looking to redo their floors.

What can’t Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear do? “Clearly,” it makes painted surfaces shine brighter than most other spray protectants on the market. I know this to be true as I have tried all of them, I believe.

Crystal Clear makes them able to withstand outside weather elements especially well. There is an art and skill to spray painting, and it wasn’t until recently I even bothered reading the can label. The can tells you everything to get great results! That being said, a guy can still make mistakes (spray unevenly, get the can too close to the surface and cause a run, or even miss a spot and run out of paint).

Crystal Clear makes your mistakes look intentional, I have discovered. The literal shiny glare makes mistakes look less noticeable as the light reflects the covered object in ever-changing patterns depending on the angle of reflection and your eyes.

Sorry for the explanation, but I teach science. Two words of caution: ALWAYS paint in a well-ventilated area, preferably outside. Also, purchase a painter’s mask so you do not inhale the enamel mist in the air.

The masks are surprisingly inexpensive and really work well. After all, you get one set of lungs, so keep them healthy. Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear is the best product for clear-coating, especially if the object, 1.

will possibly get wet, and 2. had or has rust you do not want to spread.

DO NOT BUY! Read first. this is a good product but the packaging is junk. I constantly have issues with either a clogged tip or not enough air in the can to deliver the product. I have many cans that still have at least half of the product in it.

there’s nothing I can do with it. waste of money. you are supposed to invert the can, depress the tip to clear it. this never works because it never runs clean. only buy if you intend to use the product all at one time.

or by the quart and use a paint brush to apply it. you would think by now with technology they would improve the spray can tip in some way.

IšverstiShow in original languageDelivered quickly and in good secure packaging. I used this enamel for my metal stair railing and the product makes it look like it is brand new. Also, I was glad Zoro sold this item as I could not find it at any local big box stores.

I did find one at a smaller hardware store but they priced it at 3 times the MSRP. I didn’t know Zoro was affiliated/owned by a very large enterprise industrial supply company and so now I will use Zoro more for future purposes.

IšverstiShow in original languageI use this to paint, everything metal. I’ve repainted old cast iron, steel doors, metal stairs, baseboard heat casings, plastic molded pieces. really everything that gets wear and won’t coat with wall or trim paint.

It works great. I use cheap disposable brushes, put a med to thin coat, sand add a med-thick coat, and it’s done.

I couldn’t find it anywhere, I even looked in comments. Nothing, This item is a quart I would have paid for a gallon. I just feel this was very deceptive. Seller please be completely detailed in your items.

I now must make another purchase plue tax if this doesn’t cover my project.

IšverstiShow in original languageI used this to paint my Jeep CJ5 with a roller. After doing some research, I decided on Rustoleum. I thinned it a little and used a dense 4 inch roller. After drying it was a bit orange peeled, but I’ve seen worse from the factory.

Prep your surfaces good. Use the spray can version for hard to reach areas. I’m happy with the results, and the cost is minimal. Compared to a body shop or even buying automotive paint, and you can get a quality job with this product.

Paint came in white plastic bucket, nothing on the bucket but shipping label. So I am actually not sure was this bait and switch or this is what was advertised. So no instruction on how to apply, clean, safety precautions.

When I open bucket I could see a lot of lumps floating in the paint, I mix it for 15 minutes then more lumps came to the surface. Then I used old egg beater with my power drill. Well this made lumps smaller.

So I went to home depot got new bucket and paint strainer, after all said and done, out of 5 gallon bucket I have 4. 5 gallon of paint. It was just enough to finish my job. And yes take long, long, long time to dry, if you dont have week to wait do not start the job.

It matches my red tile perfectly. I covers concrete perfectly. I only bought 1 quart and I was able to paint the front porch of my house along with the step walls. I reorder it to finish the front porch floor and backyard walls.

I used the paint to repaint a piece of electrical equipment that had been improperly stored out of doors and was somewhat rusted. After proper preparation, including rust removal and priming, I thinned the paint (directions suggest it should not be thinned) so it could be sprayed with an old technology (not HPLV) paint gun.

The results are very acceptable. Paint goes on nicely and is a good color for my purpose. I was somewhat amazed at the lack of sagging.

TranslateShow in original languageEl servicio por parte de telvom excelente, el equipo me llegó en 5 días en óptimas condiciones con su sello. No cuenta con pantalla amoled pero en cuanto a cámara, batería, tamaño , memoria y fluidez está excelente.

Not a bad paint but like all non-lacquer paint takes a bit of time to dry especially if left in an unheated garage. I put it almost on par with Tremclad but a litter cheaper. Who knows… maybe same factory.

As with any paint it’s all in the preparation of the surface. This stuff does need a primer coat to stick to when applied in a cool environment.

I love the Rust-oleum brands of assorted paints! The brand has copy cats but for all of our outdoor painting needs we always stick with the brand that works much better than the rest. There are cheaper alternatives but none that will work as well and cover as evenly.

If you have things outside that are metal and exposed to the elements, Rust-oleum can protect them from rust and corrosion. I use the products on any and everything that we store outside. From wheelbarrows, to lawn furniture anyone can easily apply and get great results.

I have tried the paint and spray in a can and always have had great results. I like that it only needs to be done once and the metals are protected fully from rain water and snow. We dont have a lot of storage available so we always try to give our metals a coating so they last a long time even if they are left outside without cover.

We also painted our ladder racks on our work truck and some metal on our mud jeeps and its been years since they were treated with Rust-oleum and they are still holding up great. No rust has come through and they still look like they are freshly painted.

If you go to any hardware store its almost guaranteed that you will see a store brand with a claim that the product is comparable to Rust-oleum and I reccomend skipping the other brands and paying a little extra for the real deal.

I tried the store brands in the past and it never did work as well. I highly reccomend people use this if they have metals outside exposed to the elements and Im sure nobody will be dissapointed with the results they get.

It is a bit more expensive then other brands that promise the same results but I know for sure its worth spending the few dollars more to get the better product. A little goes a long way and you dont need to be a professional painter to use it.

Its easy to apply and will last for a very long time. Its highly available in hardware stores and home improvement stores. It is somewhat expensive but worth the cost.

Bought this paint to temporarily cover 47 GMC “rat rod” fenders. Spray pattern is circular with slightly larger than a 50 cent piece cover, and a TON of over spray. Made it very difficult for complete coverage.

Also, with both fenders prepped the same, one can was satin and another produced more of a matte finish. Despite the difference in finish, they both turned out decent. Better used for small parts, not larger areas.

I hunted all over the USA for one single can of this color Krylon Coral Isle to finish a project. Only Summit Racing came through. Krylon wouldn’t sell directly to a buyer. Big box stores and all others would NOT order just one.

Summit took the trouble of ordering just one for one person not as part of a big order. Never bought from Summit before. But, I know where my $$$ are going on my next restomod. Thank you very much Summit!! Tom R.

The non-skid went on unevenly even after stirring it thoroughly. I used a high quality 1/4 inch nap roller meant for poly and after trying to tip the paint like they recommended, it smudged the paint.

I have rolled and tipped Interlux Brightside and have a China bristle brush I use with it. I experimented with a foam roller after seeing how poorly the fabric (velour) roller was doing. the nonskid went in better with the foam roller but it was still uneven.

After drying the texture was like 80 grit sandpaper, nothing you would want to kneel on or walk on. I tried this paint because I could not get the Interlux Interdeck. (out of stock) I have used the beads you add into your paint for my deck stairs with a porch and floor paint from Lowes.

It went on better than this paint.

Difficult to apply an even coating of non skid paint. Particles clump in the paint despite vigorous mixing. Far better to use regular deck paint and sprinkle non skid particles upon it for an even coat.

Cover with a second coat.

This paint said to clean/sand surface for prep and I followed the directions to a T. The second coat went on the second day as advised and the finish is incredible. Although you can’t really see the particles in the paint, when it dries you have a surface that is covered in little sand like particles that make the floor impossible to slip or slide upon.

Works as advertised and that is something you don’t see much of these days. I highly recommend this product, although it is a bit pricey , it is worth every dime.

I’ve been thinking of changing my gutters and facias, but with the current cost of living, decided to see if I could paint them instead. I tried this paint, Colour : Grey, satin, hand painted by medium sized brush.

I can’t fault it, went on thick and could stretch a bit, very little dripping. Dried quick, and waterproof. A 2. 5l can covered all my gutters and facias, covering over the old faded brown gutters and painted facia, in just one coat, without undercoat primer great paint.

(I tested the paint on a section of rwp for two months to see any effects by weather without under coat etc. ). I even brought the white option to paint the soffits. Ok you have to watch out for dripping from the brush, as its a little runny just don’t overload the brush!.

The paint covers very good with a roller but be aware the paint dries quick!.

I’m writing this review to put the record straight. I rated the paint as excellent based on my experience of painting my dark wooden front door with it about 4 years ago. Although the price appears to be expensive there is no need to buy primer or undercoat as this paint does the lot.

I used about 500ml to apply 3 coats to both sides of the door and have kept the remainder for touching up although it has not been necessary to do any repairs. I was prepared to apply 3 coats on the basis that primer, undercoat and gloss would have been needed for any other paint although after 2 coats it had covered over the dark stained door quite well.

I’m not sure why others have not been happy with this paint but I would highly recommend it and can vouch for its longevity.

Can’t comment on whether it will last 10 years, or even 1, as job just finished. Ignore the reviews regarding how dark it is, I thought this at first too as the first coat was almost black – this paint needs really well stirred as the darker pigment settles on top, I would recommend using an old wooden spoon and at least 30 seconds of stirring making sure you get all the paint from the bottom.

The second coat completely covered the black with a grey exactly as shown on the tin – so good coverage. Also found it dried pretty quickly, though it was used on a nice warm day. Quite pricey though so only 3 stars for value.
