20 Best Gravity Feed Spray Gun (2023 Updated)

If you look at the price of a decent brush versus this item and you already have an air compressor, then you will see that even if you only get one use out of it, you are getting a good deal. I have only used this for one job so far, but I was very pleased with the results.

I used it to spray tinted weather sealer on a shed. There were two clear advantages to this item. The first advantage was that it significantly improved my work time. It was less work intensive and applied the sealer faster than brushing it on.

The second advantage was that I was actually able to waste a lot less sealer. I did operate this using a pancake compressor, but it is not recommended by the manufacturer and I would not recommend it either, unless you have an extra tank or two attached to your compressor.

You do need significant air volume available to effectively operate this. I purchased this item on sale for $10 and had a 30% off coupon on top of that. I walked out of the store with the spray gun and a nipple for eight dollars and change.

Great deal! It was easy to clean and seems to be fairly decently made. This is one of those Harbor Freight winners!.

I will give it 4 stars at this point as I have not shot any primer or paint through it yet. However, I did disassemble the gun and clean it according to the included instructions, and the instruction manual was pretty good with a good drawing of the disassembled gun and parts list.

After disassembly, cleaning with lacquer thinner and reassembly, I shot about a quarter of the supplied paint cup with just lacquer thinner against a cardboard target to test the controls. The fan control knob on the side of the gun actually worked pretty well and I was able to adjust the shape of the fan with no problem.

The fluid control also worked well and I do not foresee any problems shooting primer or paint. On the negative side: First, the 19mm wrench to remove the fluid tip was not included. The included “Start up Guide” said it was “sold separately”.

This is a problem since a regular 19mm open end wrench will not work since the flats cut into the fluid tip are too thin for a regular wrench to fit. Central Pneumatic should either include the wrench, or Harbor Freight should inform customers and list that part for separate purchase.

Second, after disassembly, there was quite a bit of congealed “goo” inside and on the threads of the fluid nozzle, nozzle seat, and the gun body, and there was also some residue on the needle. I do not know exactly what this stuff was but it did not dissolve easily with lacquer thinner and I had to dig it out using a scribe and brass wire brush.

Note: I took the gun apart a bit farther than the cleaning instruction show since the fluid nozzle and nozzle seat came out of the gun body as one piece, and after separating them I noticed the “goo”.

Also, I reassembled the gun using Teflon tape on all the male threaded fittings, and there were no leaks when I shot the lacquer thinner through it. Again, after the thorough cleaning and reassembly the gun seemed to work perfectly.

I will follow-up once I put some primer through it. And hey, for 16 bucks I am not complaining.

This has got to be the most frustrating tool HF sells. it won’t work unless you clean it first, and you need tools to take it apart to clean it, but they don’t include the tools to disassemble!!! I had to grind down a wrench to remove the nozzle, then track down an 8mm Allen wrench to remove the air cap.

then I discovered that there is some kind of greasy, crusty substance inside it that glues the nozzle to the air cap and of course it’s pretty easy to damage those the first time you disassemble it. They could have just used some oil or something easy to clean out.

Once you get past all that, it’s really not a bad spray gun. I’ve sprayed urethane primers, base and clear with it, plus oil based lacquers. It does a good job as long as you do your part, keep it clean, and keep the packing nut and washer lubricated.

I just have to rate it low because apparently including a couple of necessary accessories is too much to ask.

Works Great, I used it with the 1. 3 tip and sprayed OEM paint on the roof and hood on my truck. I mixed 1/3 teaspoon of red micro metal flake and 1/3 micro gold flake in the Speedo Clear and it shot with 26 psi perfectly.

After two flake coats, I shot two more clear coats to make the flake pop. This gun worked without any problems at all. Fact: this is the first time I ever sprayed auto type paint and it looks like pro work.

Fact: the fan is smaller than the videos on You Tube. Its about 8″ but very DIY doable. Fact: clean up is easy.

My old gun went out on me in the middle of a paint job and needed a gun fast. I found this one that had multiple tips that allowed me to go from Primer to Clear with one gun. I was skeptical to use it because of the price.

But I gotta say it sprays very well and my paint job came out great. I was even spraying candy and metal flake without an issue. I was shocked. I expected to have to sand out a bunch of Orange peel but, this gun really lays out the paint and clear extremely well.

My customer was super happy with his paint job!.

Received package & inspected items. All parts there but unit had been used. Cleaned every thing as the gun had been used to spray clear coat. After cleaning finally used gun. Set up was easy and I am very pleased with the results.

The gun shoots clear coat like a 400. 00 gun! Nice wide pattern, light weight, fast and easy to clean. At the price it can not be beat. Saw a redneck on “redneck garage ” utube use this gun and talk about how well it performs.

It was a black Nissan for his son. Check it out. First time I used it i was blown away, thank you David. Now I’m painting everything including the dang cat if doesn’t stay outta my shop. Big Smiles.

Painted my first project in several years with this new gun. I trusted the other reviews, and they were right! Lays down PPG urethane perfectly. Even without final prep work it looked great. A few hours of wet sanding and buffing, and my project looked like glass.

***Update 3/10/2017 Still using it! Only complaint is replacement parts are not really economical to buy. I lost the little plastic ring inside the air cap and it wasn’t easy to find a replacement. I’ve moved on to nicer smoother guns but I still use this guy from time to time.

I expected the usual cheap gun with the usual sort of acceptable spay problems for the price. Fortunately, I was wrong. The gun works just like my expensive guns and is well made. Don’t substitute this gun for your finish work, that’s not what I’m saying.

Use it for primers, surfacers and sealers as it is intended for.

Early yet , but so far it’s worked well. During clean up I had a difficult time removing the fluid nossle. I eventually got it off in the vise? Who ever is tightening the fluid tips needs to back off on the torque.

Out of the box this gun sprays high viscosity primer well. Good pattern and breaks up mist well. Adjustments all work well and fits well in hand. Time will tell about durability of the needle and tip.

I bought this as it was recommended in a military vehicles blog. I am restoring a 1968 Kaiser truck and I am using the original enamel paint. Easy to set up. I tested the gun on numerous small parts with great results.

Very little overspray. Great gun for my project.

This gun performed well with the summit single stage paint right out of the box. All that was needed was a few adjustments and a little practice. The gun produced a great finish with very little overspray.

That being said, the pattern adjustment it a little touchy.

bought a new one of these because it was inexpensive and I didn’t want to depend on the previous one(same item)due to a limited supply of paint and the fact that it was not working properly the last time I used it.

by the time I got everything prepped and was ready to spray paint,it was past closing time at the local HF. assembled the new gun and loaded it with solvent to flush out the gun and when I triggered the gun nothing was coming out! I tried to adjust the settings but nothing made a difference.

upon further examination I discovered that triggering the gun was causing the air to bubble up in the paint cup! I didn’t have time to disassemble the gun to see if a seal was missing or damaged as I already had the paint(catalyzed acrylic enamel) mixed and ready to go in the gun.

so I had to take a chance and use the old gun. I gave it a good cleaning and loaded it with the paint,made a few adjustments and started spraying. fortunately it worked and no paint was wasted! so the next day I returned it and got a refund.

hopefully next time I need to spray paint I won’t have the time constraints and plenty of paint in case I have to “experiment” with the old gun. this was the third one of these guns that I’ve used and the first two worked properly-right out of the box!.

I am restoring an old Jeep XJ for use on a remote property. I bought this spray gun to paint the project – including the entire body, bumpers and wheels. I have used this exact spray gun in the past on a similar project.

This time I am using an 8 Gallon air compressor and have had great results. This spray gun is easy to use and very effective for painting simple projects. You have to adjust the gun first and get the pressure and spray pattern dialed-in.

But after that it is extremely easy to use and you can cover a lot of surface area with this gun very effectively. Just be sure to properly take the gun apart and clean it after each use – soak all the parts in either a solvent or warm, soapy water.

I am now using it to re-finish steel tools and implements that needed sanding and re-painting. It is an excellent product for the price.

My brother needed help remodeling his house prior to selling it. I was so impressed with this gun that I purchased two more. Some things to note: 1. You must use a high volume air compressor or you will always be waiting for it to catch up.

2. Thin the paint to milk like consistency. You are trying to atomize the paint for a smooth finish. The only way to do that is to have the paint as thin as milk. 3. Strain the paint as you pour it from the mixing container into the spray cup on the gun.

4. Set the air pressure to around 20 psi. And make sure that the air coming out of the air compressor doesn’t have ANY water in it. Water blowing through the air hose will ruin your finish. 5. Wear a real respirator that has replaceable cartridges.

Your lungs are worth the expense. While you are at it, apply a lot of lotion to your exposed skin, you will thank me when you are cleaning up if you do. 6. Buy several pairs of the cheap safety glasses to wear to protect your eyes.

When you can’t see out of them, don’t try to clean them, just throw them away and put on another pair. 7. Buy QUALITY paint. Cheap paint doesn’t have the amount of pigment that the good paint has. Less pigment means less coverage.

8. Use something like Penetrol or Floetrol to add to your paint. It helps extend the wet edge so you won’t have the dry lap marks that can happen if you only use thinner.

I’m new to large paint guns. The reviews said this thing is great. I got a few (reviews suggested they last until they don’t so throw it away), wait for the frequent sales. I’m still on my 1st, used it for 10 or so spray sessions, mostly 2-part epoxy primer and a few 2-part epoxy varnish sessions over the past year or so.

I clean it properly after use and leave it unassembled until my next use. When it breaks I have 2 more ready to go. As per the reviews, break it down and degrease it before the first use and remove any of the white sealer if present.

I don’t plan any fancy high gloss finishes but for varnish and primer on my aircraft parts it’s as good as I need.

1. There are 2 guns. The HVLP and the standard. The pressure ratings are maximum 40 psi and 50 psi respectively. The regulators supplied have a range of 160 psi. This range makes it extremely difficult to make fine adjustments to the gun pressure while you’re spraying automotive paints that have a short pot life.

2. The case, although very nice, doesn’t allow you to leave the quick connect on the regulator so you have to remove it, then clean it off and re-tape it with teflon tape if you decide to put it back in the case.

You also have to remove the regulator. This is not a big deal because it’s a compression connection which doesn’t require thread sealing tape. Other than these 2 issues, good buy for the price.

I was looking for a kit because i wanted to do a few painting jobs around my house plus another friend of mine wanted the front of his brick painted on his house so i needed something that i could do it seamlessly.

I didn’t want to hire someone because that costs too much money and i have everything to do the job expect the sprayer. I was looking for a kit that came with everything so i didn’t need to purchase everything separately.

I looked everywhere for a kit like this and didn’t find any results until i found this at Home Depot. I liked the that it had everything included all the attachments and everything needed to use the kit plus it came with two sprayers so i could have a second sprayer going at the same time.

The price seemed reasonable for everything that was included so i thought it was a good buy. After purchasing it, i never used it until almost the end of the summer due some other issues so that is why i am reviewing it so late as i purchased it last year in the beginning of summer.

I opened it up and attached all the air fittings and spent about half to one hour installing everything and reading through the instructions. After doing that i connected it to my compressor, poured some paint into the canister and did a couple of test trials on some plywood that i had lying around.

After using it and getting a feel for it and the type of spray pattern i finally was ready to the outside of my garage (stucco. ) It was very hard to get the right technique but after a while i finally was getting the hang of it.

After about 6-7 hours of spraying, i decided it was clean up time and time to put everything away. The clean up i thought was the most worst part of the WHOLE job and wish it was easier. I found out that if you take a break in the middle of the job, the paint starts to dry in the gun and at the end of the tip so if you come back within a certain period of time then the paint might be “almost” dried up.

So i personally didn’t know how to defeat that except using it constantly without breaks to prevent that. After all said and done trying to clean up the gun is impossible, i spent 5 hours trying to just clean up the gun and all the materials i used.

I finished cleaning everything at 2:20am because i had to use brushes and run and buy solvent to clean it. I wasn’t happy as i thought it was going to be a simple process or you think they would make a simple process.

Now on top of all that when i did have everything cleaned i went to put it back into the case and it didn’t fit because of all the air fittings, regulator, and the paint bucket. I was SO BAFFLED! I spent an hour using Teflon tape and ensuring all connections are tight and then you have to remove and install them each use? What kind of design is that, i personally just threw them my table and went to bed because i was tired.

After that i went back to the case to ensure i wasn’t crazy and in fact i wasn’t. There is no way for you put back the gun without removing everything which i had to do in order to store it but then you have to spend another hour setting and connecting everything when you want to use it again.

Overall, this kit is not a quick connect and start painting. It takes time to connect everything and set everything up. I wish they designed the case where everything can go back in connected which saves time.

I personally like how the painting went and went smoothly i think. The gun has unique features where you can adjust the spray pattern and a few other features but i do not think the price reflects the actual product and craftsmanship.

I think i might just be looking else where for another spray gun if i cannot get this one to fit some how in the case. Otherwise than that, i would recommend this as it is good and a good “starter” sprayer.

This is the next set of many guns we have bought from Husky. They always work well for us and we will continue to purchase. This kit was a great deal, love all the extras.

The gun serves a Great purpose for those who do not have a huge compressor. Dialing-in the gun takes experience, or a lot of fiddling. The machining of the gun is (cheap-chinese) Poor. Lots of burrs, and rough threads.

It makes disassembly and assembly Tedious for cleanings. Im being Generous on three stars, mainly due to Price, and perk of LVLP. I find it better than HTE guns, for my needs. The two star deduction is for the HORRIBLE Customer Support (Service) oh CA Air Tools ! Consider the gun a throw away, in the event that you need company to back their product.

Great little gun , takes a little time to get use to. I painted a whole truck with it, just takes a little more time. It’s not as fast as my DeVilbiss. Order the 1. 5 and 1. 7 nozzle kits. Great gun for what it cost.

Good, Its a remarkable sprayer. Ive owned a spray it spray gun for years. It does a superb job and thats why I bought another one. Easy to break down and clean and it lays down your material masterfully.

The SprayIt 33500 is a nicely complete kit for a bargain price. 2 guns, one for large areas and a smaller gun for detail or touch-up. LVLP allows low air pressure to run this gun and I have sprayed base coat paint with only 20 psi and a 26-gallon compressor.

Bump the psi up to 26-29 for clear coat.

A “re-beginner” 30 years later. Last paint job was lacquer so urethane is a little different. ASSUMED both sizes were constructed the same. WRONG the smaller gun comes apart different. Broke the need screw adjustment.

BETTER INSTRUCTIONS WOULD BE HELPFUL. DON’T LET THE CHINESE SET THE RULES. ADD A BREAKDOWN FOR CLEANING INSTRUCTION SHEET. Please ship a new Fluid adjustment needle and assembly to me. I managed to patch the original parts 09 – 13 model 33000.

I don’t know how long the fix will last. All and all a “good” purchase. LPLV is the way to go, especially for re-beginners!Thanks.

I bought this to paint my car. LVLP can work on a cheaper/smaller compressor. There is very little overspray. This means if you are painting outside it isn’t throwing paint all over your house and neighbors cars.

Your compressor won’t run much. When you are painting there isn’t a huge cloud of paint around you, it all goes on the vehicle. This saves a lot of material too, given than a gallon of primer is $100+ and a gallon of paint more than that, this could save you money.

It also helps with your air being dry. Less air means less moisture and that means a cheap moisture filter works much better on this gun. I’m a novice at best and the paint went on smoothly without runs and orange peel.

I’m really happy with it.

I bought this set primarily for the touch up gun and would use the 1. 7 gun for primer. The 1. 4 was just a bonus since I use a different gun for top coats. The detail gun uses an o-ring under the cap to seal the cap to the gun.

Without it the gun won’t atomize. It fell out each time I dismantled the gun for cleaning. It will fail eventually by breaking or being lost. I wasn’t impressed with the performance of the remaining two guns.

I’ve been painting for 33 years and thought this set would be good for touchups and primer. it isn’t.

I really like the design but it was terrible when painting it splatters too much plus the fan nozzle has too much play when you tighten down the nozzle to the needle

I’ve been a painter for over 35 years, used every gun under the sun from Accu-Spray to Devilibiss. I wanted a cheap HVLP for the house-hobbies. After using these “CHEAP” guns I was totally amazed at the performance.

I admit they aint no Accu-Spray but then they don’t cost a fifth as much either. If you are looking for a good little gun for the shop or the job site, you can’t beat this set! Buy it you’ll love it.

Easy instructions. Simple to use. Takes awhile to get cleaned out really well but spraying some solvent through after the cup is cleaned seems to work well. No problems with spatter. Two spray patterns worked as advertised.

Used it with leftover spray can paint removed from the cans (carefully after dissipating solvent).

Opened the box, tested it with water then added the paint. What a disappointment. Spent the next half hour cleaning it out. Did not spray any paint at all. Worst product I have ever bought.

Worked much better than the electric paint sprayer I purchased a few years ago. Very happy with the finish on furniture I was painting. The manual (1 page of print, both sides) is extremely minimal. Needed to research several sites and videos before using.

Worked well with semi-gloss oil paint thinned and timed using #4 Ford viscosity cup. Only problem was with the fluid nozzle. It is supposed to be removed for cleaning, and neither myself or husband was able to.

I poured varsol in the paint cup and sprayed through the unit in hopes of cleaning it from the inside out. Hopefully that will suffice.

I had so many problems with this gun i don’t know where to begin. First thing that broke was the pressure regulator i was turning the knob to adjust the pressure and the whole thing just fell apart. No matter what i adjusted on this gun it would just spit paint nothing seemed to work.

I took it apart to clean it thinking i didn’t get it clean enough the first time. And that is when i noticed how poor of a job they did on the machining. On the cap there are 4 small holes but on my gun only two of them were open.

The other two were only partially open like it was unfinished. The instructions leave a lot to be desired the only real useful thing on it was the exploded diagram the rest is mostly just broken english.

We use these guns to spray water-based paint on jambs, posts, brick mold, and door lite frames for residential doors in manufacturing environment. They give us a nice even coat and they are easy to maintain.

We have purchased twenty of these guns over the last 3 years but these particular guns are more durable. We have purchased 4 so far this year and I anticipate replacing some of my others with these particular guns.

I purchased this sprayer because it was the only one available locally. I was quite skeptical since spare parts aren’t available. It tried it out today with metal oxide red primer, the results turned out good however the sprayer’s small 1.

5mm tip had serious trouble handling the viscous material. A 1. 8 or 2 mm tip would be much better for this type of primer. Despite the difficulties, I was able to turn the product volume down and run the air up and achieve decent results.

The fan was quite small with this setup however it sprayed well and looks good (albeit slowly). I plan to paint the top coat later in the week and am hoping it will handle the paint better than the primer.

All things considered, it’s not a bad little sprayer is fairly efficient, I was able to run it on small compressor. Also the aluminum pot and included regulator are great. Just wishing for extra parts and tips.

Borrowed one from a friend , have painted various car and truck parts including complete vehicles using automotive paints with this gun. does an amazing job for the price and sprays a variety of materials from sealers,colors and clear lays it out very nice.

I love the gun. Would highly recommend for the DIY person who doesn’t have money for a big dollar paint gun.

It is a great performer. I loaded it with a heavy gray primer and it worked well on the whole car. I cannot wait to shoot several coats of base and then several coats of clear.

Great for solid color urethane base coats and smaller job urethane enamels. Handles sparkle base coats and tri coats as well. Not my choice for clearing or single staging large multi panels. Silver cap for solid colors, single stage and clear.

Orange cap for sparkles, and blending.

received in excellent condition. boxed with manual, tools and 3M pps adaptor. my purchase came with 3M pps standard cup holder with one insert and lid. bought as a dedicated clear gun. sprays beautifully.

very soft mist pattern. allows fantastic control of material being laid. lightweight and not as bulky as Teknas. also doesn’t ‘blast’ on the finish like RP guns (Tekna). pleasure to use. with this gun i am no longer nervous to lay clear coat.

if you are occasional amateur or hobbyist that does not require the speed of a body shop this is for you. when you use first time you will forget the price. standard 3/8″ thread paint cups fit no problem.

I have been spraying high build primer on a hot rod I am building, and the primer was not spraying correctly. I was getting a lot of dryness on it. I bought this gun with the 2. 3 tip, and immediately I got great results.

Yesterday I shot the last coat of primer and it went on wet and laid down smoothly. I would highly recommend this gun, and it is very affordable.

Before using this gun take it apart and clean it. It is shipped lubed and can cause issues. Nice gun for the money. I spent an extra ten for this one hoping that it could be fully disassembled for cleaning.

My last cheapo couldn’t and it didn’t last long before everything plugged up. Thankfully this one can!.

Great even spray. I used this to spray primer and thinned latex. Ok for small projects. Sprays better than my husky hvlp gun.

I bought this for painting auto parts on a car I’m restoring. With all the adjustability and low air pressure for HVLP design I can paint parts that are on the car without painting everything around it.

Don’t spend more money on another gun, this one works fine. Oil it up first though as the movements of the trigger were kinda jumpy before I did that. GREAT GUN FOR THE MONEY.

An excellent spray gun at an affordable price. I used it to apply polyurethane/stain to a newly built cabinet and it did an amazing job. It atomizes well with the right psi.

I’m using this to spray 2-part polyurethane clear coat onto cedar/epoxy canoes. Requires a few less CFM than a previous, more expensive HVLP gun I used.

I purchased this Sealey SSG501 gravity feed 2. 2mm spray gun to spray wooden chairs and wooden furniture. Great value for money, and I was really pleased with final finish which I was able to achieve with this spray gun.

If you want the same results each time may I suggest you take your time and clean spray gun thoroughly through out after each use. I would certainly recommend it.

I bought one of these to use with farrow and ball estate emulsion to paint some chairs. Works brilliantly! Only reason for lost star is the cleaning. The nozzle has so much torc that you haven’t a hope of unscrewing to fly clean.

And you do need to clean. Cleaning takes as long as painting! Tip – buy a pack of wooden skewers to poke through the nozzle. You’ll be amazed at how much paint comes out. I bought a second one so must have liked it.

I purchased this spray gun due to the up and coming painting of the wifes horse lorry, a Daff 45. I considered using a brush, but due to the size decided to spray it. I waited for the weather to be kind and then having all the paint and masking tape off we went, not having a large enough garage I worked outside.

The spray gum was easy to use and all settings easy to establish. Turned out a great finish. And most importantly the wife was well pleased. Thanks again. Great kit and well priced.

This gun looks and feels much like a professional gun and initial usage suggests thats the case. However when I wanted to ensure the air pressure control was set to max I couldnt move it without the use of pliers and to make it usable with finger and thumb I had to dismantle the control and lube with some vaseline.

The next thing was the air control stuck open requiring me to dismantle the valve and reposition the sealing valve which had moved way out of position. Then came the next problem which was the paint control needle stuck open whilst in use allowing paint to drip onto the panel I was painting.

This required dismantling of the needle which had stuck rock solid cleaning and lubing and refitting it. All of the above had to be performed in the middle of paint jobs but I have to say since then its behaved OK except for minor paint leakage around the paint flow needle/trigger entry point.

Good points are weight balance and handling (When its working OK), ease of cleaning, the included paint filters and cleaning kit. If I hadnt had these problems which I blame on poor assembly and lack of lubrication then I would have to answer yes to “Good Value” “Good Quality” “Would I recomend it” However I’ve bought cheaper non known makes and they have been more reliable but probably notas good paint control and application.

This gun is a temporary while I wait on my expensive gun being repaired. Comes covered in oil and needs stripping and cleaning before use. For a budget gun it’s ok. Certainly not trade quality, but gets plenty of paint out and is very even.

Ideal for base coat and lacquer. Will probably get used as a primer gun though with the 1. 7mm. The body of the gun is a little rough and has machining marks in places under the gold colour. Trigger scratched a groove in the gold within 10 minutes.

I did expect it to be higher quality. Good instructions and Spares are available. End of the day the performance is what counts and this does well. But I would consider it a starter or hobby gun. States 45 psi which I thought was a little high.

I got better results with 35psi but it was a warm day and had minimal overspray.

Had purchased a more expensive Sealey gun HVLP01 and found it worked extremely well almost up to professional standard. I bought this for spraying primer paint and it has worked very well laying a good level paint application For the price this is a good gun.

Great spray gun. No comparison to my old Eastwood gun. Only complaint is that the third needle and nozzle is a 2. 0 and I thought it was going to be a1. 8. Other than that it really sprays well and is very easy to clean.

Finally got to use it to paint my wife’s truck. Excellent gun. Very easy to set up and it maintains its set up. Some Guns very as you use them but this one shoots like a high priced gun.

This is a great gun at a reasonable price. Quality & craftsmanship are excellent, no complaints at all. Even bought one for a friend who was eternally frustrated with his more expensive brand name paint gun.
