20 Best Gravel For Fire Pit (2023 Updated)

I came here to get the dimensions of this but had to leave a review because I am the biggest advocate for this product. This was the first thing I put on our wedding registry after seeing it in its jaw dropping action but I would not hesitate to buy it for myself.

I’ve been tending fires since I was in first grade and it is 1000% worth the money for all the time and frustration and wood it saves keeping a fire going. This thing ignites a log with a fire starter or a small pile of kindling within a blink of an eye in any weather with barely any kindling and keeps it burning so consistently and slowly it doesn’t seem real.

We use logs and fire starters most of the time with a few little pieces of bark pulled off from the wood and have literally never had to fuss over starting it or keeping it going. We’ve used this in 30+mph winds and it kept our fire roaring and all five of us super warm in an unexpectedly cold and very windy camping trip.

We would’ve been huddled in our car without it. Even laying under the stars next to it radiates enough heat to keep us cozy in a meteor shower all night in 45 below weather. I haven’t looked into how people put out their fires but we usually let it simmer out and then shovel some sand in (we bring it to the desert and beach a lot) and it cools down in the blink of an eye to handle enough to put it in the bag and hit the road.

Because it cools so fast we always can have morning fires and cook on it or take it to the beach for a sunset fire. We just dump the sand and ash in our trash when we get home so its very easy to leave no trace.

I have a metal pot holding grate from Ikea that I put on top with my cast iron and it cooks INCREDIBLY PERFECT EVERY TIME! If there is an affiliate program for this product, I should sign on because I’ve recommended it and been approached about it more times than I could count.

We are so astonished by how amazing it is every time we use it still and we’ve had it over a year. It is getting a little rusty inside but that’s definitely from us leaving sand in it and never cleaning it out properly but I can see this thing holding up for years and years to come.

My wife and I had a traditional hardware store-bought “fire pit” that was quite literally on it’s last leg and falling apart. We had seen Solo Stove products advertised on social media, but were hesitant to commit because of the price.

The product is WELL WORTH the investment! The ‘Bonfire’ model is an ideal size. It’s lightweight enough to easily dispose of ashes and move in to a dry space for storage, but also big enough to provide plenty of heat and fire while in use.

I can place 2-3 pieces of wood on top of a Duraflame log and easily have a roaring fire going in five minutes or less. The flame truly stays contained in a cylindrical fashion above the opening of the fire pit making the unit extremely safe.

Depending on the size of the wooden logs being used, 2-4 pieces stacked up to just below the rim will burn and provide adequate flame for an hour or more with little to no poking or fanning – PLUS, the technology of the Bonfire also leaves very little ash behind.

The most obvious difference between our Solo Stove product and other “fire pits” is the lack of smoke produced. We are especially satisfied that we can use the Bonfire on our back deck by using the Solo Stove Bonfire Stand, rather than burn the grass in the yard.

The stand allows us to enjoy the fire pit without any harm to the deck. The complementary carrying case is made of quality material and can even serve as water resistant protection during rain. Speaking of which, with an impending storm coming after one such use, I was pleasantly surprised how fast the fire pit cools.

I was able to safely pick up and move the Bonfire in to the shed to stay dry. Now that it’s ‘campfire season’, we enjoy our Bonfire multiple times each week and are completely satisfied each time!.

Great product and exactly what we expected. Product came exceptionally packaged and came with some extras we were not even expecting. Our only “negative” comment is that we separately bought grey fire stones to modernize the look as we find the red-lava stones not as beautiful, that being said, we knew it was shipping with the lava-stones so that’s not the product’s fault.

Burns hot, easy to start, and completes our backyard. Also kudos for the fast shipping! In a world of backorders and delays, we could not believe how quick it showed up.

I researched a lot before going for this elementi granville fire pit. It’s been over 6 months since we installed it. It’s been working great for us. We waited a long time close to 2 months for the fire out to be delivered due to the high demand but it was worth the wait.

Fire pit surplus provided the best rate on this model and their customer service was great in responding to all my messages regarding delivery. I recommend this fire pit and also fire pit surplus for a trust worthy purchase experience.

This Fire Pit arrived within a few days of ordering. I purchased the dark grey, it is a very dark charcoal. It was packed for shipping with absolute perfection. honestly I was surprised how well. Being that it arrives fully assembled, it was wonderful to only add the tank and fire glass.

It does comes with 2 boxes of lava rock (not glass, I purchased that) as well as a nice fitted waterproof cover. It works well and is very well made. Flame is adjustable. The only small negative. there is a small hole drilled on one side below the air opening where the serial number and warranty tags are attached.

This was annoying ,why it wasn’t just attached inside or on the burner I have no idea. I had to patch the small hole with caulking then by luck I was able to mix 2 paint colors I had on hand to get a pretty much perfect match.

The small hole might not be an issue for some, but I am really picky, plus it would have been easy to avoid by attaching in a better place. Other than that small complaint, we LOVE this fire pit for our front porch.

I purchased this specific fire pit because it’s more modern looking. We have it set up by the pool and outdoor sofas. The material is relatively lightweight, although I’m not able to lift it myself. The bottom cracked a little last winter, I guess from being outside in the elements.

although I did purchase a cover for it. I wouldn’t purchase it again, given how much it cost.

This was just what I needed as far as a small but attractive fire table for my grandkids to gather around and make s’mores. It has held up well so far and doesn’t take up a ton of space. I was pleasantly surprised that it came with a cover.

I don’t think the terra cotta colored rocks are particularly pretty, so I do plan to replace those.

I purchased the Costway 32” Patio Fire Pit Table Propane Heater 40,000 BTU w/ CSA Certification fire pit (for some reason no longer shows online anymore), and I wanted to leave a review. The product itself seems to be “ok” quality.

However, the ignite button doesn’t work. We didn’t open the box for about a month after we got it because we were doing our deck. We tried to use it twice, but have to use a match to actually get the fire going.

I called market place 3 weeks ago and was told they would contact me to send a replacement piece for the ignite starter. I waited 3 weeks and heard nothing. Today I call and I am just past the “return” date.

They said if I wanted to return it to get a refund, I have to send it back to them myself, purchase a box and then they would refund me. They won’t just sent a part or replace the broken firepit. I dont have the box still, its a large item and not easily able to send back.

This is the 2nd time using market place and honestly just very unhappy in general. The first products I ordered was a full outdoor seating set. I purchased it then went to pick it up to be told they don’t carry it.

Strange.

This product was priced right for the item described and shown online, order process was easy, shipping was fast and free. The product once received was not as described or shown on the Walmart website.

The color of the top shows it is more grey and brown in the pictures, when we received it, it was green. The pictures show the pattern of the top is parallel with the frame. This is not the case whatsoever, the pattern is turned at a 45 degree angle and is not what we wanted.

Unfortunately, I bought this as a gift for someone and they took the time to assemble before they sent a picture to me of what it looked like. I was very disappointed to see that it was not as shown on the website and will not be recommending this to anyone.

Very very nice product and well constructed. The faux wood table top is a winner, as well as the X braced panel sides. Having a storage place for the fire pit table cover on the inside of the door is clever.

This has a 50,000 BTU burner while most are 30,000 BTU, you get plenty of flame if you want it and the LP tank sets in a holder off the ground. We have the fire stone and they send plenty to cover the fire pit.

When burning the fire the stones look like they are liquid, very cool and it puts out a lovely yellow flame. Check out the weight of this product it is at least 10lbs heavier than anything else in it’s class.

It comes with a fitted vinyl cover to keep it dry and clean. The 4 sides are oil rubbed bronze, the fire pit bowl is black which is than covered in stone or lava rock, faux wood top is pastel colors green, tan and brown with a wood grain finish all tastefully done.

The 4 corner legs have adjustable levelers so it sets solid. EZ to assemble too. I am completely satisfied and more than happy with this product.

Loving my purchase. Ordered 8 bags of fire glass and upon receipt I realized the color I chose didn’t quite match my backyard. I asked for an exchange and it was no fuss. We just enjoyed our first fire with it last nite.

We ordered – we received confirmation and within the time you told us, we received our boxes or beautiful colored rocks for our fireplace. {I cannot rate the quality of the fire glass right now effectively because I havn’t used it long.

Right now they are lovely! Absolutely stunning. How long will that last? Only time will tell.

We just finished our patio and fire pit and used this lava rock to fill in our gas fire pit pan prior to adding fire glass. This helps save money, since the glass is much more expensive. So, essentially the lava rock was used as a filler.

However, it is worth noting that this lava rock looked great prior to adding fire glass. It looked so good in fact that we considered purchasing more and use this only and not adding the fire glass at all.

This lava rock is very light and a perfect size for filler. The color is more of a dark grey/light black (not a deep black), so just be aware of that. I’m happy with the size and weight. It is surprisingly light.

The quality of Classic Accessories patio furniture covers has always been good. However, on this most recent order, the actual size of the cover is notably smaller than the dimensions advertised and indicated on the package.

So, rather than fit like it is supposed to, it barely fits over my fire pit table. I understand slight variances in dimensions on something like this. but this cover is off by at least 2 inches in width in each direction.

Worth the purchase. I have small patio furniture and this company came very close to the measurements I needed. The items came quickly and I am very pleased with the workmanship of the product. Very nice quality.

Perfect fit. I love the clip and elastic draw string. Don’t have to worry about it blowing off during a storm. Liked the product so much that I went back online and purchased additional covers for other outdoor furniture.

We actually bought this as a patio table cover. We have a 28″ and a 38″ table. This cover worked PERFECT for both of them. We were able to put the smaller table legs through the loops to secure it from blowing away even though it’s a tad looser.

The larger table didn’t need the loops because it’s nice and snug. Sturdy and a great protective cover. Found these for only $7 each so a great deal! So much cheaper than actually buying table covers.

Doesn’t fit all the way down, but we didn’t care about covering the legs anyhow. Great purchase! Not sure how long it will hold up, but definitely a good sturdy cover.

Super heavy duty fire pit, excellent build materials and quality assembly. Good customer service. My first experience with a fire pit was the Solo Bonfire (SB) but I wanted something bigger and more permanent so looked around and got the X30.

If I had watched several of the Breeo videos before purchasing I would have known to buy kiln dried wood but didn’t and got a load of “seasoned” oak. That wood is basically fireproof in the X30 as far as getting it started.

I got some kiln dried wood, watched all the Breeo videos, and learned how to make a fire pit fire. Now I consistently make impressive hot fires that easily burn all my fireproof wood. I also got a moisture meter to check the wood I buy.

I mentioned the SB because in that stove it is easy to make a hot fire and keep it going. The SB generates an inferno with constant secondary burn that incinerates any kind of wood; dry, seasoned, or wet, and burns it all to a fine ash powder.

The X30 needs dry wood to get going, later after it heats up it will burn my fireproof wood, but I have to feed wood into the X30 like it was a locomotive engine to get any secondary burn around the top ring.

The X30 does produce a smokeless fire if you use dry wood and plenty of it. The X air flow system in my opinion does not provide sufficient airflow in such a large fire pit. It may be fine for the smaller stoves but the X30 needs more than four tubes worth of air, it needs six or eight.

I say this because the X30 never generates an inferno like the SB does. The SB has the entire bottom of the fire pit perforated so all the wood gets oxygen. In the X30, wood only gets oxygen from the four arms of the X airflow tubes.

When the bottom is full of coals you can see a bright yellow X of combustion, but only over the X tubes, not the entire bottom like in the SB. As a result there are always chunks of unburned wood left among the ashes where there was not enough airflow to completely burn the wood.

The X30 works well but you must watch the Breeo video tips on how to build a fire, and you must use kiln dried wood (at least to get the fire going) to have easy startups and smokeless fires.

We originally purchased the X24 series with the sear plate. After one burn and cook we felt this unit was too small, especially with the built on sear plate. It restricted the hole for adding wood and the heat that we wanted to get up to the outpost was blocked.

We also felt we could use an extra outpost option. I am NOT knocking the X24, but we do have a large family and are often cooking for 6-8+ We decided to exchange the 24 for the X30 and purchased it without the sear plate.

When the unit arrived and we unboxed it our initial reaction was “wow, this thing is huge” We were fearful that it was too big. Once we got it out on our patio the size was perfect for our space. It felt so different not having the sear plate which opened up the unit tremendously.

I will say that it will require more wood than a 24, especially if you want the secondary burn, however we found that we could build our fire as big or as small as we needed to depending upon how many people we are cooking for and how cold it is outside when just using it as a firepit.

We cooked the first night with a small fire and everything turned out great with plenty of heat and a fast cook time. The next session we did some steaks and had a more normal fire with plenty of coals that were spread out.

It was a cold evening so to have more heat was much appreciated. We did purchase the removable griddle (reviewed separately) which we are still on the fence about as it is very large and heavy. not sure how much we will use it because of the size and moving it back and forth.

I can’t past judgement yet because we haven’t used it. We’ll see how it goes. Overall very pleased with the unit. If you are a avg size family I would say get the X24, but without the sear plate if you use it more as a firepit, then add the griddle if needed for surface cooking.

If you entertain a lot or have a large family or just want the ability to expand and contract your fire the X30 is a solid unit. Just make sure you have ample supply of good quality wood.

I recently purchased the Stainless Steel X-24 Fire Pit with Lid, Outpost Grill, Searplate Griddle and Spark Screen from Breeo. I also purchased separately a Stainless Steel/Aluminum Fire Pit base from Amistad Grill Co.

in Texas. The pit arrived within a week from ordering and came in a fairly sturdy box with descent packing. I was initially concerned with shipping such a heavy object across country. When the pit arrived there were a couple holes in the box from coming all the way to California, but the pit was undamaged.

I received all the accessories at the same time as the pit without any damage to the boxes or contents. I was surprised and pleased that everything came quickly. The pit and all of the accessories are sturdy and well built.

You won’t find anything of this quality short of a custom job. Our inaugural burn was a hotdog roast with the grandkids. I used a combination of hard and soft woods to see if the pit would hold up to its reputation of “Smokeless”, and it came through with flying colors.

I will add that it’s not smoke-free, but it’s definitely smoke-less. You will get some smoke for the first 15-20 minutes when first lit and every time you add a couple new logs, but once you get a good fire going you’re all set.

It puts out a great deal of heat, so it’s nice to sit back and relax around a nice warm fire without a bunch of smoke in your face. Needless to say, the hotdog roast and fire pit were a great success.

I looked at a lot of competitors and reviews before finally settling on Breeo, and I’m glad I did. You’ll pay more for the Breeo products, but it’s worth it. As the old saying goes “you get what you pay for”.

I’d recommend Breeo to anyone looking for a quality product that works as advertised.

We have a high top patio set with a center hole in the table that originally came with a large circular tub with a cover. This would allow the user to keep it covered OR use it as an ice bucket to chill your bottled beverages.

In the wintertime, however, we still like to enjoy the outdoors and we can put this in that center area and enjoy the heat it generates. The large propane needs to be 5 ft away for safety, but we COULD have stored it right beneath the table on a metal lattice designed area below.

The dimensions were perfect to fit this right into the table and now we’ll be able to enjoy a cocktail in the chillier months! My husband was delighted with my Big Lots find on their promotional e-mail for outdoor units such as this.

Love this fire pit. It’s the perfect size for our Travel Trailer. Throws out a lot of heat, and looks great. It arrived really quick & with great communication throughout the buying process.

Product exactly as shown. Easy set up. We use ours in one place. Pit itself is lightweight and would be easy to transport but gas tank is heavy. We love it! Gives off a good amount of heat! Worth the price!.

Built my first fire in my Tiki fire pit last night. I’m very impressed. There was a minimal amount of smoke and the fire pit produced plenty of heat to keep everyone toasty. I struggled to get the fire going initially and there was tons of smoke, until I learned to make sure there was some air beneath the firewood.

I put two parallel logs on the bottom, spaced just wide enough to put the starter bag in the middle, and lit the bag. I then placed two more parallel logs close together and perpendicular to the initial two sticks.

Within 10 minutes or so the fire was hot and there was almost zero smoke. This is not the only smokeless fire pit on the market. But the Tiki fire pit is the only one that doesn’t look like either a stainless steel barrel or something designed for a construction site.

It looks great, is reasonably priced, and makes social gatherings on cold nights a lot warmer and less smelly!! As far as I’m concerned, it’s worth every penny.

This fire pit is poorly designed. It does not provide the proper airflow to keep a fire alive and you will not have a good time. If it does burn, it’s really only creating embers that don’t make a good fire to hang around, just burning your wood slowly through the night.

My friends actually tease me for buying it because it’s not even smokeless, you will struggle to get it to light, and when you finally do, it doesn’t put off any heat. If you plan on using the pellets they sell, you may enjoy it but those last 30 minutes and don’t put off any warmth either.

You can go to Home Depot and get a better fire pit for about 100 bucks. If you are a camper or hiker, enjoy a nice fire with friends, this isn’t the one for you. I even have issues getting starter logs to light in this thing.

I vacuum it out before any use to make sure nothing is clogging the airflow.

We have only used the fire pit once so far. we loved how simple it was to start up using the provided pellet pack and we enjoyed the warmth and lack of smoke. We are wondering about the safest way to extinguish the fire and are thinking a snuffing cover would be a nice, even necessary, included item, considering the recommendation is to let the fire burn out naturally.

We wonder about the containers wind resistance as we noticed embers moving through the top grate to the bottom were still burning underneath. Can you leave those unattended without worry that they will get blown out of the unit with a gust of wind or is breaking embers up not encouraged to prevent this from happening, keeping everything in tact on the upper grate until it becomes dry, cool ash? We used sawdust logs in addition to the wood pellets, perhaps the burning embers doesnt occur with the pellets.

We are still learning and wish there was a bit more information about taking care of things at the end of use, since we often use them into the evening and want to be able to shut down safely, rather than waiting the suggested 6-8 hours for things to cool off?!?.

I recently bought this Fire pit to replace an old rotted one. Once I received it I was very impressed with the quality of the steel and the documentation that came with it. The lifetime warranty was actually a nice certificate.

If I have any complaint, it is the 1. 5″ drain in the bottom. There should be a grate there so large embers don’t fall through, but water can still drain.

When we decided on the Liberty Flame fire pit we were a bit concerned about the polished appearance. We were hoping for a rusty, aged patina instead of nice polished steel. Well, after just three days out in the moisture of Oregon, wow! The patina is developing already and it’s beautiful.

It is as beautiful and well-made in person as it looks online. This made an incredibly unique Father’s Day gift that will last a lifetime. We purchased a 30 inch standard and it is the right size for us, a family of five who uses it recreationally.

It is absolutely perfect!.

We’ve used this twice already, one time just for s’mores, and the second time for brats, burgers, and s’mores. The only down side is that it gets hot underneath even with a reflective pad underneath.

Perhaps we’ll try to sit in on three brick or three concrete blocks next time. We found it easy to use. It’s so great that the unit is all welded together and comes ready to use. The grill and the spark guard work very well, as does the long “poker/lifter.

” The fire was easy to start and burned well. Nice unit!.

After unboxing the Patina Products Fire Pit, it became a mad dash to set it up and enjoy! The build quality is excellent and the design was really nicely done. We put sand in the bottom and used bricks to form a pedestal for the wood to sit on.

Because of the tall sides there was plenty of room for air flow for the burning embers. I recommend this fire pit. From the quality of materials used to construct it to the very fast shipping time it took to be delivered I am pleased with my purchase.

If you want to use a fire pit that has years of usability( read a 5 year warranty). This one by Patina Products fit the bill! Five Star.

Ha! Got you to look! No, the Breeo is not built to usual standards. It’s built to much HIGHER standards than usual. It’s more like an industrial product than a consumer one. Top flight materials and solid construction throughout.

Excellent, clever design that actually works. Clearly built to be the best of its kind. A note: I bought the smallest size so the fire would be smaller and more controllable, and because I thought it’d be easier to keep the smokeless function hot enough with less firewood.

That’s all true. But the problem is the X19 is a little smaller than standard cut firewood. (I have the sear plate which I like and use, but it makes the opening smaller. ) So it’s harder to make the “log cabin” of firewood to get the fire started, and it’s harder to add wood without it sticking out above the rim.

It’s also harder to adjust the burning logs efficiently. There’s just not any extra room at all. None of these things are a big deal to me and I like the compact size I got. But if you’re looking for something to justify getting the medium instead of the small, these reasons might be enough.

It does emit much less smoke than a conventional fire ring. I had ordered a Solo Stove. After ordering, I started wishing I ordered a Breeo, Made in USA, and looked like a better product. I saw a comparison video on youtube, which made me further want the Breeo.

Funny. the company I ordered the Solo from delivered it to some address up by Albany! It said “delivered” on my tracking. I called. they said they could have a new one sent. I told them not to bother, and process a refund to my card.

I ordered the Breeo. and it was on my door step two days later! I soon realized I wanted the lid, and got that, too. Very happy with it. I had a fire last night, listening to the Yankee game on the radio.

Actually got that “fire out the secondary burn holes” look in the pictures. I really like the design. The air feed on the bottom looks solid, and works great. I found that the next day when all is cool, a small dust pan and brush easily cleans it out, with a small hand shovel to finish.

I have the feet on some small pieces of slate.

The X24 Smokeless Fire Pit Insert Bundle exceeded my expectations by a wide margin. From the speed with which I received it (5 days) to the heavy duty packaging which protected it completely to the easy set-up it was great.

The accessories were equally great. The first fire was that night and I was cooking on it that weekend. The sear plate made the steaks perfectly. It took a couple of fires to figure out the best was to accomplish the “smokelessness” the most thoroughly (make sure the fire extends out to the walls) but once learned the fire pit does exactly what it is supposed to do.

The only downside is that since the firepit is a much more efficient burn I am going to need more firewood than in the past. But the fires are wonderful.

Thick gauge steel, natural patina/oxidation 3) It is built in the USA! 4) Andy and S&S provide about the best customer service I have encountered (seriously) 5) Having the pit on legs/pedestal allows for amazing radiant heat – you can’t put your feet under a traditional fire pit like you can with an S&S 6) Drain plug/shape create a terrific burn & facilitate EASY clearing of ash build-up 7) THE SNUFFER LID IS AMAZING.

I literally throw it on a raging multi log fire when I am ready for bed and it goes right out with no worry or risk of unattended embers/fire. The next day, the wood ignites instantly. The snuffer lid doesn’t allow moisture in the pit so the wood is like charcoal, ignites right up 8) The cooking grill/grate is a perfect match and allows feeding more wood without taking the grill off 9) It’s mobile.

If I end up building a deck, I can reposition the fire pit. When we move, I’m taking this fire pit with me! If we could still tailgate at events, this pit would be in the parking lot at games too! 10) Shipping was quick and easy – the pallet was left on my driveway and I just cut the straps and moved it to the backyard.

I even chopped up the pallet for the first fire. If you’re contemplating the fire pit, you should also consider the log rack. Shipping these pits on LTL isn’t cheap, and S&S isn’t profiting on shipping.

If you’re already getting a pit, the log rack can be added with considerable shipping savings. 11) ALL my friends & neighbors are jealous. One neighbor proclaimed – “I wish I had known about S&S before I built my pit.

” This isn’t a selling point, but more a data point on how incredible these pits are. I am sure I am forgetting more amazing things about S&S and my fire pit. I have had a fire each night since we got it & I can’t stop talking about how awesome S&S Fire Pits are.

Buy it, you won’t regret it, and like their tagline says it will be “the last fire pit you’ll buy!”.

Andy and his team are the getting it done in GA! My S&S pit has quickly become the centerpiece for all of our backyard adventures. We use our pit for multiple purposes (large cookouts, s’mores and relaxing by the fire) often all in the same day.

The deep bowl design of my 41″ Hemisphere allows me to burn large uncut rounds once I get a good fire going. These uncuts burn for up to an hour or more allowing you to sit back and enjoy. In my opinion, you are doing yourself a disservice if you do not also buy the cooking grate, snuffer lid and ash shovel.

We will have this pit for years to come. Our kids (and their friends) are growing up around this pit (memories galore). They are learning valuable lessons in how to respect/tend fire. This pit will be an heirloom one day that my son will use with his own family.

These pits are the real deal made with care. If you are debating between one of the pits sold for much less at big-box stores or some of the more recent “smokeless/double burn” types vs an S&S pit. debate cancelled.

All those other pits are garbage. No need for a fancy cover here (leave it out in the rain with snuffer lid on and you get a rich, beautiful patina. No need to buy a base. legs are welded on for life.

My wife and I had previously owned 3 other cast iron firepits that were heavy duty and well made but from the big chain stores. They always wind up breaking and rusting and eventually burning through.

This time we decided to pay the extra money and get a piece that looks awesome and can literally be the centerpoint of the patio and also will last forever. The snuffer lid is a great idea and is now essential at our house for peace of mind when we go to bed.

The cooking top is totally awesome. We start a fire every night when the weather is nice, it gets so much use its absolutely worth every penny. We couldn’t possibly recommend it any more.
