20 Best Grass For Beef Cattle (2023 Updated)

I had wanted to try beef tallow for cooking for a while now to get some more variety into the diet besides the usual butter (does not work for everything), olive oil (the majority of olive oil now is adulterated with who knows what else in it and is contributing to excess consumption of omega-6’s), coconut oil (I don’t care for the flavor of this in a number of different recipes).

But honestly, I was not at all expecting the outstanding excellent flavor of this! I was thinking it may taste bland and kind of nappy, like when you skim the top grease layer off something cooked. This is SO DELICIOUS — wildly flavorful with the tiniest little amount, and it really disperses evenly and easily throughout all the food.

What a pleasant surprise! I will be using this product from now on. I also wanted to find the healthiest version of beef tallow that I could, as there isn’t very much of this available anywhere. If it can’t be from organic beef, at least this is from grass fed beef raised without antibiotics.

I started using Epic products a few months ago, and was really appreciative of the beef tallow, but over the last month or so, I cannot find it available anywhere. It’s been listed as sold out on this website for weeks.

Amazon doesn’t have it in stock. And big brick and mortar stores don’t seem able to order it. Could you please restock so we can order it here, directly? It’s such an amazing product.

Unfortunately, my dogs didn’t like this kibble. My Rusty is a 6 year old AST, 85 pounds & he has never been a picky eater. He has Never left food in his bowl, but he wasn’t interested in this food. I honestly think his disinterest had more to do with the small size, the smell(lack of) & the texture of the kibble bites than the quality of the food.

I bought the senior kibble for my Chelsea, 12 years old, 55 pound APBT & she also had to be repeatedly coaxed into trying the kibble. Her top front teeth are somewhat worn down from years of chewing on beef bones, sticks, wood decks, fences & furniture 😉.

When some of tiny kibble pieces fell out of her mouth, she nudged them away with her nose & walked away from the bowl. Both of my dogs are now eating different Hill’s prescription diets (large dry kibble & canned) based upon their individual health needs.

I still can’t believe we have to request prescriptions from a Vet in order to purchase a specific dog food, but I’m trying to do what’s best for my dogs. Based upon the reactions from my two large dogs, adult & senior aged & who are definitely not picky eaters, I am disappointed with my purchase.

I can’t recommend this food especially for large breed dogs who typically eat large sized dry kibble. I’m very pleased that you are ethically/humanely producing high quality dog food & was willing to pay more to feed my dogs to support a company like yours, but they both didn’t like the Senior Recipe or the Grass Fed Beef Recipe.

I’m a pet sitter so I see TONS of different food brands with all my clients but I noticed one of my clients using Open Farm and her animals had great body composition and poop, this is important. I’ve raw fed for years but due to life being crazy I miscalculated my last order and needed to supplement with kibble to make it to the next delivery.

I got the Pork and the Salmon flavored kibble and both my younger girls have done great on it. I got the freeze dried for my older girls with more allergies and my 17 yr old JRT loves it. She hated all kibbles and that’s why I switched to raw years ago because of her allergies and skin issues and being so picky and she loves her raw but now she demands some of both in her breakfast, 6pm dinner, 8pm whatever’s left in the dinner bowl, and then a little 10pm snack.

And who am I to deny the queen of the house anything in life. I recommended the food and sent a baggie of it home with one of my clients with a picky eater and he inhaled it and she placed an order and now another boarding pup was having tummy issues on her food and her mom asked me for a suggestion and I told her we’d try the freeze dried and let me tell you, I’ve been keeping this dog for years and this is the most energetic and playful I’ve ever seen her and she’s a 10yr old catahoula who normally chills and stays to herself.

I just emailed her mom a 5 min video of her playing with my dogs in the yard. That has never happened. I truly believe it’s the change in food. My older girls have already requested that I put the Pork freeze dried on autoship so I will be doing that soon.

First, it took me MONTHS to discover a kibble that worked for my now 8 month old 50lb Ridgeback/Pitbull baby. At 3 months, she was originally on hills science large breed chicken puppy food until I discovered she has a bad chicken sensitivity.

We moved to merrick beef & sweet potato but still didn’t solve the issue… Then we tried OpenFarm beef & ancient grain. There was a slight improvement but nothing consistent. We moved away from ancient grains to see if just beef would help.

Again, improvement but no luck. I was adding pumpkin and boiled egg whites and OpenFarm beef broth to try helping bad tummy issues. Then she got what I believe was giardia (the worst!) and with everything thing going wrong, I researched lamb and venison benefits.

With the venison option being a little too much for my pocket, we tried OpenFarm lamb. At first I figured it was making things worse! Her poops were terribly watery at times. She was on an antibiotic and probiotics at the time.

That’s when I began adding oatmeal to her kibble. After that, VOILA!!! Improvement! We are now only using the lamb kibble with an added tablespoon of cooked oats and water to soften. Her poops are consistently FIRM and healthy! No more bad tummy issues.

I’m afraid to try any other dog food based on how bad things were so we’re gonna stick with what’s working for us. I am SOOOOOOOO happy the bad tummy phase is over (knock on wood) as it was racking up the vet costs.

If you are having stomach problems with your fur baby, and even beef isn’t cutting it, I certainly suggest the lamb dry dog food. Anytime I prep her food she sits waiting. The aroma definitely grabs her before hearing the food hit the bowl.

I bought a 4lb bag of every recipe to try. Unfortunately they won’t eat it! They are usually on raw but now they are 14 and 17, they are getting fussy and I wanted some other options to have on hand when they have those fussy days.

They like Ziwipeaks (freeze dried), Acana and Orijen (lentils) sometimes, and I’ve tried Firstmate (potatoes) but I wanted to try something without all the lentils or potato, so went for a Quinoa mix.

I’m obviously not a dry food/kibble buyer, so can only compare to the ones mentioned above. After using the above mentioned, I expected on opening the bag to be hit with a good smell but of the three bags I opened, salmon, chicken and beef, there wasn’t much of a smell and they were very similar.

I transitioned and mixed with the other dry food I have and they ate around and left Open Farm. I have tried but after a week of them leaving and then trying, and me thinking they may decide they like it, they have officially refused and my one dog even pushes the bowl away with her nose.

I loved the idea of the product and the humane farming and wanted to support that idea but if they won’t eat it, then it’s not for us. I guess it’s possible that the quinoa gives off some odour that they don’t like.

There was a bit of grass eating and very slight tummy upset, so maybe quinoa doesn’t suit them, as they have tough stomachs on raw and this was unusual to see. When I tried them on Ziwipeaks, Acana and Orijen while on raw, they never had any issues, so I can only think of the quinoa that’s the possible culprit.

Freddie is a rescue who for the past year has been getting home cooked meals with a very good kibble. He was known to be allergic to chicken,beef and dairy. Hewas overweight and out of shape. After resolving myriad anxiety issues, getting his muscles toned and some fat melted off him he suddenly went into full-blown histamine reaction after eating any kibble: all his histamine glands went into overdrive and he started shredding himself.

After a couple of months of this I desperately searched on-line for a food that had minimal ingredients, without a mega-nutrient mix that created the possibility of many allergies, with novel protein and grains.

All the ingredients in open farm are all natural and hormone free non-GMO fruit or vegetables, my dog has a very sensitive stomach the littlest things can turn her stomach so when I found this brand, I was excited to try it and see if it would benefit my dog and help her eat and feel good about eating.

I had never tried any Bulletproof products before this one but I have heard about them and seen them at stores. Honey was advertising a sale on their ghee so I decided to try some because of all the great reviews.

This ghee is delicious!! The reviews are so accurate. It is not hard and lumpy like other ghee. It is very soft and smooth. I put it in my coffee every morning and it gives it a smooth velvety texture and a very mild buttery taste.

Love, love the taste of the Ghee butter. We once ran out and I sent my husband out on a mission to find something to replace it. In tasting another brand the two don’t compare. The Bulletproof Ghee is better tasting in coffee on toast.

The consistency is light and smooth. It doesn’t clump or harden. It dissolves in coffee quickly. I won’t use regular butter since I started using Ghee. It’s that much better!.

I love these products. I love the butter and the mct oil. Haven’t drank coffee regularly for years but everything together is very enjoyable in the mornings. I believe in these products so much that I bought a 2nd round of the bundle to keep at work and home.

I have purchased this product 3 times now. Each time I have received a box of beef sticks that have a differing level of moisture to them. The first box I ordered was bone dry. I liked the flavor, and the value per stick was less than other paleo-type beef sticks, so I drank a glass of water when I had these because they made me THIRSTY.

Overall I liked the product, so I ordered it again. The second order came and the beef sticks were a bit juicy and extremely delicious. Needless to say I blew through the box faster than I probably should have.

The third time I ordered it, I wished I could add a comment that said “please give me beef sticks that aren’t dried out. “, but alas, there isn’t. The third box arrived yesterday, and I opened it hoping the product I received was on par with the second box.

The moisture level is moderately low, but not like the first box where it left my mouth feeling like it was a desert. I feel like this is what is contributing to the mixed reviews. Reviewers that received the bone-dry beef sticks likely rated it 1 or 2 stars, and those that received the more juicy beef sticks likely rated it higher.

Overall, I like the flavor, but I should be receiving a consistent product. Please fix the inconsistencies and this would be a FANTASTIC product. I would give this product 5* if each box I received was similar to the second box I received.

I am very disappointed with these beef sticks. I specifically bought them because the ingredients on this website state “lactic acid”; however, once received, the box actually says, “encapsulated lactic acid.

” It is my understanding that this encapsulation can either by a trans-fat or another melting substance, but unless clearly called out, there is no way to know if your healthy snack has trans-fat, which is pretty high on the list of ingredients.

They taste great, but I can buy plenty of great-tasting products far cheaper if I am willing to consume trans-fats. If the encapsulation is not trans-fat, then I would think the company would brag about this fact.

I choose to err on the safe side.

ETA: I mentioned the issue I had on our last order in email correspondence with the company. They sent me a complimentary bag of ears with the curly cartilage intact! Dave and Roger are happily crunching again! Brutus and Barnaby is a good company and stands by their products.

Up until this last order, I’ve been 100% pleased with this product. Quick delivery and I can buy in bulk for 1/2 the price as a well-known pet store that claims to be “Smart”. Also, half the time I’ve driven to their store and they are completely out of cow ears.

These are a special treat for our boys (2-3 times weekly) and it’s nice to keep them on hand. BUT, the last bag of ears were cut differently and all the “curly” ends up by where the ears were attached were neatly sliced off.

That’s the part the dogs like to chew on the most! I hope it was just a fluke, and that the next bag will contain the entire ear as in the past. Note: The large bag seems to have larger ears where the small bag contains smaller ears.

The small ones are great for our little guy, but I like the big ones for our larger dog. Order accordingly for your dogs.

My cats have been desperate to get outside to eat grass. They sit at the door screaming to be let out and even try darting out after the dogs. I decided to give this a try to see if it would help curb that obsession.

It grew super well. Since it was grown in the room right next to a humidifier, I probably could have watered it less than I did. I tossed the grow bags because they looked a little slimy, so I’ll have to buy the whole kit again instead of the refills.

But it was totally worth it. The cats were super happy and haven’t cried at the door once. They made a mess of it, so I’ll be looking for a better container to put the grass in.

As you know i already want the best for my baby kitten but also need to save money. Very hard. I will say at the moment 1 box is enough to feed her for morning and night, and sometimes there is some left over for the next day.

Great! But the packaging. First, it’s a little tricky but eventually i got the hang of it where i don’t need scissors anymore. but it might be because i put it in the fridge so the cardboard box or whatever gets a little wet or moisturized, thus making it easier to open with my hands or bend it or something.

but when it does NOT open with my hands and i gotta stick my fingers in to make the box pop out, ugh. But my main gripe is the FOOD GETTING STUCK ON THE SIDES OF THE BOX!! not all of the food comes out easily.

I use my spoon, but even then it feels wasteful when some of the food is still in there even if i do use my spoon to scoop it. If i’m feeling particularly frugal i will use my finger to wipe it all out.

Makes me so sad. I’m glad my baby kitten does enjoy the food so no problems with that so far. And it does look healthy and good for her, i like that it is liquidy because i am always nervous about cats contracting liver cancer so i want her to have more than necessary fluids to live a long life.

We have kitties with allergies and with sensitive mouths. This wet formula has a great looking list of ingredients with no chicken, so I was very hopeful that it would be a perfect fit for our cats’ diets.

Unfortunately, not one out of five cats who were offered this salmon blend would eat it. Three of them sniffed it and turned up their noses; two gave it a couple of licks before strolling off. Our cats aren’t especially picky, so this was surprising.

I offered them servings on multiple occasions and even wondered if warming it up would make it more appealing. The universal boycott didn’t change. It’s a flat “no”. While I can’t recommend this product based on personal experience, I wholeheartedly recommend this company.

Our food choices are limited because of our cats’ allergies, but there’s a nice selection of other formulas and flavors to try if your cats are less problematic. The price point is high, but seems in line with the quality of the ingredients.

I like the company’s philosophy & practices and can tell the food is great quality but I have the same comment made by a formal review site: There are some ingredients that don’t seem necessary, and my kitten doesn’t like them.

I think it’s the lentils & carrots especially but she leaves a lot behind & I have to spoon feed her the rest so it doesn’t go to waste. I know some filler is needed, and wild cats eat what’s in the tummies of the critters they eat, so there has to be something other than meat but question whether these are the best choices.

Maybe it’s the chunkiness. I will be looking for different formulas. The container is also very tedious to get all the food out; I appreciate the recyclable nature of it but I can’t afford to waste a bit & I have to spend an inordinate amount of time scraping it out, or add water to make soup of it to get it all out; messy.

Cans are also recyclable, probably more so in some areas, and much easier to serve from. Still on board, just some suggestions. Thanks.

I’ve gone through quite a few bags of these after being introduced to them through a big box wholesale club that starts with the letter C. Overall I like these a lot. They have a small circumference similar to a Slim Jim, not thick and chunky like Duke’s.

My first complaint is that they are so tiny. I can literally eat this in 3 conservative bites. This does not put a dent in my hunger, so I end up needing to eat at least two in a row and there’s only 8 in this particular bag size.

My other complaint is that sometimes I get it batch that are very, very dry. My most recent purchase was fine, but it seems like every other bag I get ends up being too dry. I feel there’s quality control issues, because the freshness dates are usually very similar.

I continue to buy them however, because when I get a good batch they are tasty and I enjoy them. I just wish the quality was more consistent and that the size was bigger.

Maybe I got a bad batch, but so far they’ve all been very dry and grainy. Not a good dry like beef jerky, dry like sawdust. The flavor is good, but the texture is so off-putting. The fat in them is more small particles, not gritty, but just makes the texture even weirder.

Like dry sawdust blended with finely ground cold bacon fat. Will not be buying again.

While I have not yet become a customer of this site. I have tasted this product from my MD’s office. My very favorite flavor is Teriyaki, which is not offered here, but hopefully will be in the near future.

These sticks are a great alternative to snaking on empty calorie/beneficial snacks. They have a high protein content which helps keep me on track and adds to my total daily protein count. Shhh! Don’t tell me MD.

LOL. But really I will travel to the MD’s office just to pick these up. The price is compatible to the MD’s office. GNC prices them at about $2. 50 a stick which is the only place I can get them when the MD is closed.

I’ve also tried Buffalo Wing and Applewood. Didn’t like them so much but that is probably a personal thing. Please give this product a try. I’m sure you will LOVE them as I do! #realreview.

My April 2022 purchase of your 85% ground beef is not up to the quality I’ve come to expect from you. It’s more gristley and less flavorful. It tastes more like standard supermarket hamburger. I’m disappointed, and will be looking elsewhere for my next ground beef purchase.

I live 30 miles away from an organic grocery and always had to go to two or three stores to find 100% grass fed Organic Prairie ground beef. I tried ordering from the company and, wow, Ill never shop in brick and mortar for it again.

The order arrived faster than I expected, the meat was frozen solid, and its so nicely in my freezer whenever I want to use it. Im ordering the chicken next. Often, my stores are our of another brand of organic chicken.

As you will see by my photo’s I like ground beef. I share it with my daughter. There are so many uses for ground beef. The orders arrive timely. My last order despite the last of the dry ice was gone the meat was still well frozen.

I now have enough ground beef to last. Probably in the neighborhood of 80 plus pounds. My last order I just received last week was such a good sale I ordered forty pounds. In my regular freezer is 20#.

I bought a small 14. 1 cf but about 6 months ago but it will hold up to 200# of meat.

The burgers are delicious!! The best I’ve ever had!! They are tasty and juicy!! I’ve been recommending this product to all I know!! Soo thankful I have found farm foods!!

I am not too crazy about the DAKOTA ground beef 80/15 I think it is the way it is grinded. It seems like a mush. However, I liked the other one you have sent. Thanks, Dana
