20 Best Glue For Upholstery Trim (2023 Updated)

Used the product on affix dual plastic emblems to a boat. Two months later I discovered a rust/yellowish ooze had wept its way out and is now fully adhered to the white gelcoat. The surface was cleaned with acetone prior and applied indoors at approximately 75 degrees.

It’s high viscosity made applying quite challenging and was compounded by aggresively seting within 10 seconds into a even thicker mess. 3M was chosen from brand confidence and as this was a restoration for a customer, I didn’t want to risk my reputation over something so amateurish as screwing up a simple, yet essential asthetic.

I’m sure this product in general is most likely very good, but for this job it did not perform well.

I have used 3M Super Trim adhesive for years and found that it works well when used as directed. When applied to both surfaces and left for about 10 minutes, until it gets tacky, it grabs very well and holds.

It is important to be careful that the items being glued are positioned where you want them. Once the items are joined they do not separate easily, if the are bonded for any length of time it is more difficult to separate them.

In my opinion the 3M 08090 trim adhesive is the best to use for strength. I have used others, including 3M 08088 general trim adhesive, and they do not bond as strongly. The others are OK for light duty work or for bonding surfaces that are not subject to stress like flat laying carpet in the rear of a 2+2 mustang.

It is a bit expensive, however I find that not having to do a job twice or damaging something by using a less expensive adhesive makes the cost worth it.

This is the quality brand to buy in my opinion. This spray needs to be used in a well ventilated area like your garage with the door open or even outside. The fumes are very strong, but this spray really sticks.

I use it for quilt backs to batting and then to the front which is much easier than crawling around on the floor. You can adhere things for upholstery also. A good product that works.

I bought this 4 or 5 years ago for hemming my jeans. When I first used it , it seemed so liquidity I thought this stuff won’t work, but boy was I wrong I followed the directions and in a few minutes it was working.

The jeans I hemmed up five years ago have not loosen even a little. My only complaints are fining a place that sold it, and that once you open container you have to use it fairly quickly, or it begins to dry up.

Otherwise, fantastic glue for leather or fabric.

I’ve used Tear Mender a few times in the past year and I’d have to say that it’s better than I expected it to be. The pros of the product from my experience are that it reduces repair time of fabrics when compared to sewing.

It dries to an almost water tight seal depending on how much you use in a specific area. It also has a twist top that makes it more user friendly. And with proper care, the bond it creates between the fabrics can last a very long time, if not indefinitely.

As for the cons, the liquid dries to a rubbery consistency that has a pale yellowish appearance to it. In addition, it creates a fairly strong bond, but I recommend using the product in combination with sewing for maximum strength if the item you are repairing is meant for rough use.

As heard on “How to Radio”. The sponsorship on this program, promised that this adhesive, would be a strong, holding bound. So far, so good !

Worked on Toyota thin fabric headliner very well. One wet coat and the material stuck well. Gave it few hours to dry completely. The product is very very sticky and if it gets on your hands it’s not coming off with the usual cleaning, not even alcohol.

To remove it from surfaces or skin use brake clean, spray that on a towel and wipe the surface and/or hands.

The Permatex spray was used for my headliner in my vehicle. I sprayed the fabric, pressed it on and put a little painters tape to hold it while it dried. The next day I carefully removed the tape and voilla! You could not tell the fabric had come down at all.

Great stuff!.

The most remarkable thing about this stuff is the complete absence of any instructions from the manufacturer about how to use it! Nothing on the can (aerosol). Nothing that I can find on the website.

Incredible! Do you spray both surfaces? What should you use to clean/prep the surfaces? Is the “silly string” spray deliberate? I suspect so, yet 3M’s own responses to reviews complaining about it say “we don’t expect the product to perform like this”: is that true, or do the responses just reflect the use of standard phraseology by staff who don’t know what they’re talking about? Get a grip of your website, 3M; it’s a disgrace.

Other obvious yet unanswered questions: – how do you clean up overspray? Are there temperature limitations on when you should use it? Do you make the bond whilst the adhesive is still wet, or wait until it’s gone tacky before bringing the materials together? This may well be a good product but if you can’t be bothered to tell people how to use it properly you don’t deserve their business.

I have been using this product for many years with perfect success if used according to directions and after investigating the materials you are trying to adhere; also after religiously doing a small test sample whenever possible.

Some additional tips for a better experience with many spray adhesives: • ALWAYS soak the spray tip in GOOF OFF, IMMEDIATELY after every use, or if the tip becomes clogged during prolonged use. I keep a small amount of Goof Off (enough to cover a spray tip twice over) in a small jelly preserve jar, for this exact purpose, and label it so I know what’s in it next time I reach for it.

I use mechanical fingers to remove the spray tip from the jar, and spray it with compressed air to blow out any contaminants and expel the fluid. I always start by blowing out the smallest hole first (in reverse direction from its normal spraying.

Then the rest of the tip. • I always keep cleaned tips from emptied cans, so that I can swap out tips as I’m working on a project, if needed. Never let the tip set for any length of time without soaking it (that’s why I keep spare tips).

• I have had partially used cans of this spray adhesive, that have set around for over 2 years, and still performed well when I used them again. • Vehicle Ceilings: Are not just foam. They are a mixture of foam and adhesive, and require specialized adhesives for that purpose.

However, even your best specialized adhesive will fail if the adhesive/foam it is bonding to is deteriorating. REALLY! Use some common sense here. The only long term remedy is to remove your ceiling and take it to a professional restorer to scrape clean, apply new foam and matching cloth.

Then you can re-install your reconditioned ceiling.

Works Great, if you are using it in automobiles, boats, RV,s whether it is inside or out you need this. It will stick where other contact cement will not because of the high summer heat. The stuff is easy to use, roll or spray.

I brushed since i do not not have access to a gun to spray this material. Like any other contact cement, get it right the first time. Good deal, fast ship and good price. Thanks.

Research on the net points to this product being one of the best for automotive headliners due to it’s resistance to high temperatures. At first I was reluctant to spend the extra $$ over spray can adhesives, but it’s actually a good value.

At $45 a gallon shipped, it costs about $5 more than 2 cans of spray adhesive. and you’ll have lots left over for other projects! I used 2 qts, applied with a spray gun, for the headliner in my Jeep Cherokee.

which is 48″ x 76″, total of 50 sq ft on the 2 surfaces. One gallon is supposed to be good for 200 sq ft, so I did use more than necessary, but I attribute that to the spray gun not atomizing the product too well.

it kind of blobbed on instead of a fine lace. But I only used half of it, or $$22. 50 worth. you’re not likely to match that with spray cans! It did stink for about a week. Might be a good idea to let the headliner sit in the sun to dry before installing.

Overall it’s a high performance product at a price better than spray cans, especially if you are doing more than one job.

Works great in dedicated spray gun as I use a “Detail Sprayer” and works in the highest heat. Black vehicle can hit 140+ degrees F and spray can stuff will let go. Who wants a come back and a failure during one summer.

Don’t risk it. I am about ready to order more because I can’t run out. Ever! Tech tip: Place acetone on cotton rag on tip, then cover with plastic bag corner and rubber band. Don’t forget the cups air inlet as well.

Perfect as a single use application!!! Most other “superglue” packages are too large and end up in the trash almost Immediately after opening. This package has 5 separate applicators which remain useable until each is opened, and the sizing is great for a single application.

It did just what I wanted it to do and more.

It also waterproofed everything I glued to the shed! OK I admit it looks a little nuts. but I am alright with that. It’s certainly eye catching. And I would imagine our shed is one of a kind!!! I will upload a picture once I get the shed completely covered!.

I’ve used the 3M brand, the Blair, the Krylon, even Elmer’s rather heavy spray brand and this Gorilla is not as good as any of those, at least for my purposes. The others were mostly on backorder, so tried something new.

This sprays in a gooey stream, not a mist (yes, I shook the can repeatedly) and the tack doesn’t seem to last very long. This one is either all or nothing; either very little tack or complete glue. Even the Elmer’s, which up till now was the worst I’d tried, is better than this one.

If you want a heavy-handed glue spray, this is it.

This stuff literally ruined the paint on my car. It is the biggest hassle to work with because it is too thick and very stringy. A small amount seeped out under the badge from the pressure of pushing on it, didn’t notice until an hour later, and it took the paint on my trunk right off with it.

We had to fix our hot tub and tear out some of the spray foam insulation – since this is moisture resistant and works outdoors, I used it to adhere the large sections of insulation back to the tub and plumbing.

When it arrived, I was happy to see the large 14oz full sized aerosol can and began to use it immediately. It worked really well with adhering and mounting light materials like fabric, canvas, paper, photos, and cardboard but it did not work as well with heavier materials like glass and metal.

I had some swelling and warping and when I worked in my journal I had some bleed-through.

I use this gorilla spray glue for my intricate diecuts. I can’t really get a small enough glue pan to cover all of the area before it dries. This great glue works perfectly!

It takes very long to even start being sticky. Count at least 2-3 hours so you need to hold the two parts together somehow. I suggest applying the glue on both parts, wait 2-3 hours until it becomes sticky, then put the two parts together.

Good points : it doesn’t smell. On the bottle it says it will stain your skin and also will increase in volume 2-3 times as it dries up. Bottle also suggests humidifying the surfaces, water activates this glue.

Wipe off the tip of the bottle before putting the cap back, otherwise glue will harden inside the cap and next time you won’t be able to fit back the cap and the bottle will harden inside. Strength rating : 6/10 where 10/10 is for cyanoacrylate glue.

So be prepared… once set this stuff has an incredible bond. I used it on my kitchen chairs. The spindles on the chairs were loose and I used just a small amount in the crevice because this stuff expands.

I have to say they are still holding and not spinning. I also used it to fix the corner of my home which is a cement material. The corner cracked and fell off and I’m grateful I saved the piece. I sprayed it with water and applied the glue and that too is still in place.

This glue is waterproof and can be used on many surfaces. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

I used this glue one time. It did do the job, but. Once dried, the glue tripled in size. The small line of glue was no more. A yellow thick glass like coat covered my surface. Then after about three weeks.

After storing the glue properly. I went to use it again. And. It was hard as a brick!!! Could no longer use it!! So if you want to use this glue ONE time this is for you!!.

Polymat 797 works as advertised. I highly recommend it. The adhesive holds strong and applies evenly. Follow the directions on the can and you shouldnt have any issues. Ive tried many types of contact adhesives for doing the headliner of my vehicle.

Theyve included two different 3m adhesives, Loctite and Weld Wood. They either dont apply well or wont hold the headliner to the backer and they fail with in a month or two of the installation. Polymat 797 has been great so far.

Its lasted longer than anything Ive used. Hopefully this is the last time Ill have to replace my headliner.

I used this product on the only headliner install Ive done. In reading reviews there were others who complained of it not adhering and falling off. I dont know what method they used. But, if you apply liberally and remove the old foam completely from the headliner itll work just fine.

I used this on 98 f-150 single cab and I went through one whole can and part of the second. And that was due to my liberal application. I would recommend this to anyone. Great product.

Sprays on very well, and there is enough glue in four cans to do a headliner in an extended cab Silverado. Glad is ready for applying the liner in five minutes. It holds the liner really well while you fit it to all the recess areas and work your way out to the sides and ends.

You can reinstall the headliner in an hour or two. All in all this is a great glue for headliners. Works really well.

I used it to secure a hammer head to a handle. Worked like a champ. It set up like epoxy. It is my go to, for glue applications around the house.

I required it for composite decking, for sticking the trim. It will not stick composite decking.
