20 Best Glue For Leather Shoes (2023 Updated)

I do a lot of leatherwork. This contact cement works great to create strong permanent bonds holding leather layers together. It is especially useful to hold the leather pieces in place prior to stitching and/or riveting.

I use it on all my multi-layer leather projects.

Of all the different adhesives I have used in the past 55 years, this is the best. I was a woodworker all my life and used this in many ways in my wood shop where other glues would not have worked. I always coated twice on the wood before I put things together.

Now when I am older I am having to lift my right shoe 1/2 inch and this is the only glue I will use to do this. I still use two coats and when I put my shoe back together it stays together. Barge cement has never failed me.

BARGE is the best!.

I have been using this product for the last 7 or 8 months and found it to have high quality. I’m working on my second can of Barge and use it gluing leather pieces together in the process of making shoes.

I have used Barge on 95% or more of my seams and have had very good results.

5/2021: I’ve been using Boot-Fix for at least 3 or 4 years with excellent results. E. g. , on separated shoe soles and on sandal straps that have pulled out, it makes a permanent, waterproof repair. I just used it to attach Duck tape beneath my 2017 Accord (it would not attach by itself to the rubber spash guard); then brought the Duck tape up to fasten the front bumper back into original shape; it had sprung out 8″ due to my hitting a high curb (I then painted the tape with my car’s color).

I have used it on repairs to small parts on an expensive cello. Repaired broken hair berretts; broken piece of a ’07 Accord Glove box (saving $200); the handle on a favorite standard ceramic coffee cup; broken pots; spines on a book, etc.

Just remember, it’s a must to hold or press the joined pieces together for 75-120 seconds without them moving. It’s expensive compared to other named glues, but darn well worth it.

Best boot & shoe repair glue available of those I’ve tried. The glue applicator makes it easy to apply & it always works as described, better even! Also appreciated the included suggestion to store in your refrigerator between uses to extend shelf life.

The leather on my shoes had detached from the sole in the side. At first I tried ordinary two-component glue which didn’t last more than a couple of days. Found this from favorable reviews and after a few months have to say I’m impressed at how durable and elastic this glue is.

Easy to apply as well, doesn’t require pressing the two parts together to bond well. Highly recommended for leather shoes, boots and belts.

Used it to repair ankle trainer type walking boots; toe and front of sole had all become detached. Glued the sole and held fast with duct tape for 48 hours, then did the same with the toe which covered the front of the boot.

48 hours later my wife went for a walk in the rain and the boots were as sound as the day they were bought. Duct tape may seem extreme, but it was the first thing that came to hand when I wanted to hold the fix in place.

Bottom line is that it does the job 100%, and I would highly recommend. I bought this size tube in anticipation of needing a fair bit for the repair in hand but the amount needed is much less than expected and I now have an excellent go-to should the family have a similar problem.

This item needs a review request in 6 months – 2 years, Not within two weeks or a month. It does work for temporary fixes and has held up for a month. More permanent repair needs more time, variance of exposure, and more usage to adequately review.

Joann’s also did not supply MSDS, which is now required by California State Law.

I have a pair of old running shoes that I barely used. I wanted to pull them out and use them again but the bottoms came almost completely off because the glue was old. I tried other glues but they were too stiff and didn’t hold.

This glue holds very well and I am tickled I can use my old shoes again!.

I have used Shoe Goo for decades for restoring the worn or loosened soles on my walking shoes and hiking boots. Black Shoe Goo is better-looking on black soles than clear Shoe Goo. The Goo always adheres perfectly with no special preparation to the sole.

I apply blue painter’s tape around the edge of the sole to give a nice square edge. The tape comes off best if removed between one to two hours time. The Goo wears more quickly than original sole material, but it’s reasonably durable.

It does leave big scuff marks on vinyl flooring. I remove these by standing on the scuff marks with an old terry wash cloth or towel underfoot and doing the “twist” with all of my weight on one foot.

I prefer this to using solvents like Goof Off, which also work. Zoro shipped the Shoe Goo to me the next day. That’s fast! I had a web site ordering glitch and had to call customer service to stop accidental multiple orders.

The service rep was very helpful, even contacting PayPal to stop multiple charges to my PayPal account.

My purchase was based on researching some internet reviews. It works as long as instructions are followed. Was able to glue a delaminated rubber sole from the upper assembly of my wife’s shoe. I uploaded a photo of the glue on my Facebook page and a friend who saw the photo informed tha he used this glue in high school in the early 1970’s to fix his tennis shoes.

Clean the nozzle and wipe a thin coat of petroleum jelly on the threads of the nozzle to prevent seizure of the cap to the nozzle. The glue is recommended if the material of your footwear is compatible.

Rubber to rubber it did not work. There is a product that they recommend using – rubber solution, before applying the cement. This product was another $30+ and the amount I needed to do did not warrant this added expense.

May have been the entire issue so if going rubber to rubber, be aware that you will spend twice the money. Again may have been my fault entirely so product itself may still be good.

Simply the best cement I have used for my sneaker restoration projects. Will definitely get more when this can is used up.

It’s an excellence product for shoe repair. I have tried many other glues but not things work. It’s a little pricey but I highly recommend to all with shoes repair.

I Used this to re stick the soles of my shoes that had come lose. Cleaned both surface thoroughly,removing old glue, then using sandpaper to key the surface. Applied glue to both surface then waited for the glue to dry.

Having used contact glues professionally, it is important to make sure the glue is dry before you apply the two surfaces together. Pressed soles to shoes and clamped edge of soles with spring cramps and left for 24 hours.

Worn several times since repair as good as new and no problems so far.

This cement is the truth!! After a investigation of several products for shoe repair, I wanted something that would work efficient and still be able to store some away, if this event was ever to occur Again. This Product did the job, dries fast , flexible and was easy to use with the brush applicator top cap.

I was extremely happy with the results. Dried Fast in Cold weather as well. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to repair shoes of any kind. Do Not Allow to dry in a invented room or a room with people present.

Quite Strong odor during the curing process, but oderless when dry.

My leather watch band has two loops to hold down the strap end of the buckled watch. One had pulled loose on one end and the other constantly slipped down the band rather than staying put in the right place to hold the strap.

This made the watch hard to wear as it came close to falling off and the loop and strap had loose ends catching on things. Aleenes Leather Glue allowed me to reattach the loose end of the loop between the layers of the watchband, and also allowed me to glue the other loop to a spot on the band where it would stay put and hold down the strap.

It only took 5 minutes to set the glue and I didn’t need to clamp or weight. So far straps are holding firm! Happy with this product though I wish they sold a much smaller size as I only needed a tiny bit and I’m afraid this big bottle will just go hard before I can use it up.

This worked so well that it made the cutest leather pouch for my phone without sewing being involved. I definitely and going to modify the project slightly and teach it on YouTube at the end of the year.

I don’t even own a sewing machine and I was able to make them due to this glue being that amazing. (You do have to let it sit for 24 hours). Check pricing, shop with people that don’t take your rewards and then verbally abuse YOU for it.

This was used to glue replacement suede on the bottom of my dance shoes. The suede was glued in the afternoon, and I was able to dance in my shoes that same night. This glue was thicker than expected, however, has held up well.

Better directions with info on drying times would have been nice. I was nervous about whether or not I would be able to use my shoes that night.

We had several pairs of running shoes, sandals, and boots that were in need of repairs and Loctite shoe glue has been an ideal solution for our repair needs. I was drawn to this particular glue, because it claims to provide a long-lasting repair and to hold up in all weather condition.

For some of the smaller repairs, I used some rubberbands and heavy weight on the shoe for about 1. 5 days. Thus far, no additional repairs have been needed and most of the footwear has been worn in a combination of warm, cold and wet conditions.

My favorite feature is that all of the repaired footwear has remained flexible. My son’s shoes had the front half of his soles unglue on his newer sneakers and at first I was going to toss the shoes, but I decided to use this shoe glue first.

I used a larger volume of glue for these soles, and then I used several clamps on the shoes to get a firm hold for the soles. I left the clamps for a few days, and when I pulled them off, the sneakers were in one piece and holding.

My son has used the sneakers for daily use, but not heavy use, and they have held up. The sneakers do not appear that they are going to lose adhesion anytime soon. I am very happy with the shoe glue.

Keep in mind that a little goes a long way. We had 7 pieces of footwear to be glued and have nearly used the entire 20g tube. Of course, for larger repairs, a tube would not last as long as it would for smaller repairs, so I would put a conservative estimate per tube at 2-3 pair of footwear able to be repaired.

I used this product on a hard-soled slipper and a work boot with fantastic results. I’ve tried two separate products over the past year and like the Loctite shoe glue brand better because it is strong, flexible and gives off less odor (VOC’s) than other brands.

Picking a shoe glue, I imagined that it would be the yellow, stinky paste that cobbler shops reek of. I was so happy to see that it was more like a clear silicone-like adhesive with a very faint odor.

I successfully re-bonded the toe tread from a work boot to the cushion part of the sole and the hard sole of a slipper to the fabric upper. You need to have a way to keep a tight bond between surfaces for the 24-48-hour curing period.

Make sure to pick up rubber bands or binder clips, they are critical for a good bond and get an abrasive (ex. sand paper) if you have a smooth surface. For the boot, I used plastic wrap but would recommend rubber bands instead.

I think the plastic wrap didn’t allow enough air circulation and curing took the full time. For the slipper, I used 4 binder clips from my office. It produced fantastic results. After 24-hours the bond was stronger than the stitching used by the manufacturer.

The bond is flexible and durable. Over all it is a great product. Do the prescribed preparation and you will be happy with the results.

i bought this product a month ago and it got delivered on time. I ordered this to hopefully repair my favorite Boots when the sole fell off. I lost all hopes that i can wear these pair of boots again, but i tried a thin layer because I didn’t want it to get all over the shoe even I squeezed it together and can’t believe how well it worked.

after repair i am using my shoes almost everyday, and i feel like i am wearing my new shoes. Great product for shoes soles. I have not tried to fix anything else but it looks like it can fix all kind of stuff.

Great glue for leather crafting! Needed something that would tack my projects until I was ready to sew but this glue is very strong and my project really didn’t need sewing after use. I admit I was skeptical and my funds were low so I just went with it.

It is now my go-to glue for all my leather needs.

Best Shoe glue I have tried. Saved heaps $$$ on shoe & expensive Boot replacement. My Snow Boot soles came apart on holidays 12 years ago. Still going strong. My Motor bike riding Boots soles started to seperate after being wet, dried them out & re glued them still wearing them after getting them wet several times.

My favourite comfortable leather Sneaker soles cracked & split because of age. Glued them up & even the cracked splits are still holding up. Happy, Chappy,.

The rubber sole of my favorite flip flops had peeled off halfway on one and started to peel on the other. I researched which shoe glue was best and this one had the best reviews on several sites. It does smell a little awful, but not too bad (that is to be expected).

Use this in a well ventilated area or garage if smells bother you. I used a plastic playdough knife, but a popsicle stick will work great too to spread it where you need the glue to be. I carefully and slowly squeezed it in the center and moved the glue outward with the plastic knife so the edges would bond.

It did give me a couple of minutes to manipulate and spread it. It does start to get tacky fairly quick (like consistency of molasses) so you’ll need to spread it quickly, stick it and set it with something heavy or rubber bands.

Don’t waste time and don’t put too much so it doesn’t ooze out the sides and get messy. I heeded the advise in other reviews about the end of the tube opening. I crossed my fingers and hoped mine wouldn’t.

It didn’t. Maybe they got a bad batch. Hope they were able to exchange it. I didn’t realize the rubber sole on my left shoe is smaller than the shoe rubber. It matches on my other one. I’m ok with that as you won’t see the bottom.

After gluing last night, I put something heavy on top of my flip flops to make sure it had weight to bond. Checked it today (around 24hrs later). See pictures. Same flexiblity like before the sole ever came loose.

I have purchased Shoe Goo at least twice; one tube seems to last forever. I have a pair of fairly expensive winter boots that I have had for at least 15 years and I am most diligent in keeping them clean and water proof.

So over the last two years I have had to re-glue the soles of each boot (1 last year and the other just a few weeks ago. I absolutely love this amazing product as it actually does exactly what it is meant to do and I will never have to re-glue those spots again.

This great product has saved me more than $150. 00, which I would have spent on another pair of boots. Cheers!.

Shoe Goo acts as both an adhesive and to build up worn soles and heels. So you can stick down the upper if it has come away, fill in holes and tears in the upper or sole and rebuild worn out surfaces, especially heels and toes.

Works with all normal shoe materials – fabric, synthetic and leather. However, you do need to get the surfaces the Shoe Goo will be applied to spotlessly clean – and shoes can often be pretty dirty, so I first clean and scrub with hot soapy water – to make sure their is no grease present, then dry and wire brush furiously until the surface is raised – but go a bit easier on fabrics of course.

The more you score the surface the better and longer the Shoe Goo will stick. Also Shoe Goo works better when it and the shoes are warm, around 25 degC, so, especially in winter, I often put the Shoe Goo and shoes in the oven proving drawer or airing cupboard for a couple of hours – but make sure the Shoe Goo does not get too hot as it is very flammable.

Read the health and safety warnings and follow them carefully. To build up soles and heels secure the shoe upside down and horizontal and squeeze the Shoe Goo and spread roughly – it will flow over the surface to form a smooth layer.

For heels and toes use some ordinary insulating tape round the outside to stop the Shoe Goo flowing over the edge of the heel or toe. I have extended the life of all my shoes by years through regular application of Shoe Goo and would recommend this product unreservedly.

I have been using Shoe Goo to patch/repair some expensive dog boots with rubber soles. A few tips: thicker is better but wait 24 hours between applications and 48 hours to cure completely; use an ice cube to smooth the Shoe Goo; don’t squeeze the tube too hard as the product is more liquid than you might think and will leak from the tube as it sits on the table unless you re-cap it immediately.

I mostly wear light boots with a sneaker-type sole, which only tend to last me 1-2 years. When the tough rubber outer layer has worn through, the underlying soft, spongy layer goes really fast, and also leaks water.

So Im really glad I found Shoe Goo. I took my two-year old boots, the heels of which were worn well into the soft layer. I first applied a 4-5 thin layers (which was surprisingly easy especially when I used the ice cube trick for smoothing).

Having found that the stuff really does seem to stick in place when the boots are in use, I added almost the rest of the 3. 7 oz tube of Shoe Goo. The outer edges of the heels are still a bit lower than new, but the boots are now perfectly usable again, and will hopefully be for several months.

More important, I’m going to patch new boots before the outer layer wears through. The only drawback is the fumes when you apply a lot of this stuff at once; you really need to air the room if doing it indoors.

This glue is NOT like other glues. You know, like the ones that you find at home improvement centers you THINK are going to work, but don’t? Shoe goo was my last resort to fixing the soles on a newly-purchased (but at discounted price) Clarks sandals.

I was so angry that the soles came undone on the first day I wore them, that I drove them back to the store from which they came. What really bothered me was that these particular sandals were one-of-a-kind in my hard-to-find shoe size and had been discontinued, or would have cost more money to buy from a specialty store.

I wanted them. but not torn! While standing in the store, I decided on a whim to indeed keep them and marched out of the store with my sandals and spend the rest of my time sitting in my dark car searching the internet on my phone for ways to fix the comfy rubber sole on my shoes.

Beyond going to shoe repair stores, there were options to use other glue brands I have tried before with torn shoe soles. They did not hold up well on shoes – the soles would just re-separate themselves again over a short amount of time.

Then I read all the overwhelmingly positive reviews about Shoe Goo and decided to try it. Found a 3-tube package here on Ebay for $14 and was stunned with the results. No kidding — a day after I applied the glue and taped the sole to the shoe, using painter’s tape, I was able to wear my sandals all day on an outing without the soles separating at all! I kept checking to make sure and all was well! Still is! This stuff is solid and behaves differently than other glues.

It’s like “Once you apply me, I am not going anywhere for a long long time!”.

Very good shoe glue. I’ve used it to repair Caterpillar worker boots and trainer shoes, worked well in both cases. Settles within 24 hours and holds very strongly. I’m not sure about how long it will last – I’ll see that after few months of use at least, but I expect it will last long.

Bonus is that it doesn’t really stink, so I don’t have to go outside the house when working with it. Some glues can have a very strong chemical stench that is hard to ventilate away after work.
