20 Best Gel For 4C Hair Wash And Go (2023 Updated)

So I don’t normally use gel on my hair to style. Naturally my hair is straight to wavy and thick when air dried, so gel doesn’t come into my routine normally but I gave it a try. I tried on damp hair and used it throughout my hair from roots to ends like the claims say you can do, then I air dried to try and get pretty waviness.

Well I have to say it felt and looked decent but I do think this particular product would be better for curls to enhance them and help them hold and look bouncy, so I had my bfs sister try it who had very thick curly hair and her hair looked so much better than mine.

she airdried her hair after applying this and her curls looked bouncy without little to no frizz anymore. These aloe products smell nice and clean also. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is because she did experience a tad of the crunchy feeling you can get from gel, but it’s not enough for her to stop using this.

She enjoyed it and is still using it. I received the cream serum hair moisturizer from this line also, and I liked that one but the gel wasn’t for me, but was for her! our experience is a perfect example of something that doesn’t work for one person, might work awesome for the next person.

I should’ve taken a pic of her hair versus mine with the product, but i didn’t, so if I can get her on her wash day, I will update this with pictures!.

I have thin/fine loose ringlet curls that is dry and bleached. I am always on the look out for hydrating products that are light enough not to weigh down my hair but moisturizing enough to make my hair not look dull and lifeless.

It’s a hard balance to strike. I am also not a fan of the crispy and hard curls either. When I saw this was a gel to foam I thought this might be my dream product. The product promises easy spread ability, fast dry time, moisture, natural hold, and manageable hair.

It also promises not to add weight, stiffness, or crunch. Everything my fine and dry hair needs. I washed my hair like normal, tried the moisturizing serum, and put this product in. It foams up easily with no clogging.

It was easy to spread through the hair and it did dry fast. However what I was left with was sticky, dry/brittle, frizzy hair. I thought maybe it needed to be crunched out and I only made it worse. So I had to wash it out of my hair and went back to my current products.

I thought at first maybe it was the leave ins fault so I used it next time with my normal leave in conditioner. Nope that was not the answer. So then I tried no leave in conditioner and If you want to talk about disaster hair.

My hair look fried and I did not use heat! Upside it smells good and the texture is nice. This unfortunately is not for me.

So I hate gel because of the sticky, flaky residue, but love styler foams so I was excited to try because my hair will be your best friend if you can hold style on my 4C hair without super shrinkage.

We’ll as so as I applied I was in love! The smell, the feel, my natural curls were popping without having to manipulate so much to achieve my regular look with my short hair. It wasn’t sticky to touch, I was really impressed! The problem came the next morning as I set my hair overnight to style the next day.

When I went to style the next day, I had the ashy, grey, flaky, dry look. The more I touch the worst it made it. So I completely rewashed my hair thinking maybe it used too much for over night so in restyling for a wash and go it did well, but it was getting flaky by the evening.

I can’t see myself using this product without the serum as that did help a little, but it wouldn’t be a go too unless it was summer and I would be wetting my hair more often. Can’t give up it a low number because like I said I could see using for summer wash and go’s only.

This gel is a great option for someone who needs a fragrance free product. It is very difficult to find products with zero fragrance. I would be lost without this. The gel provides great hold and no flaking.

It also brushes out easily. I love it.

We have a ton of allergies and sensitivities in our house. fragrances, aloe vera, and all kinds of stuff that is usually put in beauty/self care products. We searched high and low to find something my husband could use to tame and style his very long beard.

I love Free & Clear products. This styling gel is just the right amount – not too little and not too much. It gives me the curl and body I want without the stiffness. And if you are chemically sensitive like I am, you will appreciate the lack of any odor whatsoever.

Unpredictable results: I have a love hate relationship with this. I have a 2b/2c all the way up to 3a and 3b curls (so a mixture naturally) and I find no matter if I use more of it or less, it leaves some sections stringy one moment then I end up somehow liking it more after a few days but after a few hours it looked like the definition had lost its hold on wash day? Idk man, this gel is a weird product.

I haven’t owned anything like it. Not to do with the product itself but superdrug bro you know too well you’re ripping people off with this when the hair and beauty supply shops are selling this for a much better price margin.

Go to any black owned beauty supply and they have this for a lot better value for money. Overall, this product is not terrible. It hasn’t done my hair harm. The most disappointing thing to me about this was the hold.

It is super thick yet I find I have to put quite a good amount of this on. It looked like it was going to come out amazing the second time I used this when wet but when it was diffused and dried and I scrunched out the cast it was defined, but not as good as I expected given all the effort I put into it.

I did not settle for mediocre results. I also noticed that when I put my hair up the wispy hairs around my face were all sticking out. The loreal invishold normal strength gel gives me much more superior results and I haven’t had any of these problems with that product.

I therefore will not be purchasing this again as I don’t feel it is for me. I will probably try using this for slicking my hair back to use it up before recycling/reusing this container.

I am a hispanic Latin American and I have jet black straight hair. Back during post partum I decided to cut my beautiful long hair since post partum had it falling out chunk of hair in shower when I showered.

I’m familiar with organ oil bc I use it on my hair after shower and so I decided it to give it a try. Boy let me tell you it is life changer this has been forever my hair gel now I have never used gel in my hair bc I wasn’t sure what kind I also have used it years when I was little which it can stick and make you’re hair sticky and hard so I didnt want a gel that does that.

But this Eco gel I just bought it at my local Walmart store online it was fast delivery, it was really cheap like under 5 bucks big tub and so I tried it soon as I got it. This gel is not sticky it literally just like there is nothing in you’re hair its like you can’t tell I have gel in my hair it smooth and smells amazing! I love it this is my forever gel now I highly recommend it.

I washed my hair after a few days of using the gel its like i never used it it wasn’t noticeable my hair was washed easy and smoother and i noticed i didnt loose lot of hair like I used to in the shower.

I have THICK 3B hair. This gel is great, but you have to use it properly (ideally before posting a review that this doesn’t work). After you shower and before towel drying, bend forward and have your hair fall forward.

Hair should be detangled (ideally with your fingers while you were conditioning). Hair should still be pretty wet at this point. I first go in with some Shea moisture styling milk or smoothie to help with softness and frizz and conditioning.

Then, I take half a lemon size amount of gel and work it in. My hair is armpit length, so adjust this as needed. I’m careful not to overwork it and frizz out my hair. Be gentle! Then, squeeze some of that excess water out and plop your hair in a towel (microfiber is best for curls).

Let it dry for a bit (30-40 min) and then hair dry or gently diffuse. When your hair is dry, scrunch to get rid of the hardness. I have dark brown hair, and never have had issues with flaking for the years I’ve used this product.

I use an appropriate amount and any excess gets squeezed out or absorbed in the towel. Do this and you will have gorgeous curls.

This is the best was n go gel I’ve tried from cheap to expensive. It gave me the best curl pattern without the frizz so the curl look much better. I just wish it came in a jumbo size. I highly recommend this it and the hair vitamins.

I don’t know how to tell how amazing this shampoo is. Needed a good shampoo for my curly hair and came across this brand. Got this and the leave in conditioner too. Both were on a offer. used few months before I decided to write a review about this product.

This shampoo removes all the build ups in my hair. sometimes it can make your hair dry. but I normally use a hair mask before shampoo. So doesn’t make my hair dry or frizzy after shampooing. Makes my curls so much defined and bouncy.

My new favourite.

Everything about this brand is amazing! The product is moisturizing and great slip. I do not experience any product buildup or flakiness. I will definitely recommend this gel to anyone who is looking for a great gel for their curly hair.

I used this gel to retwist my locs. The hold is soft and firm, not the hard/crisp feeling or flaking that you sometimes get with other gels. In addition to the hold, it also made my roots just feel better, as though there were conditioning agents in the gel.

I used the gel in conjunction with the Almond and Avocado Moisture Pack and the Almond Butter conditioner. This is definitely a keeper!.

Design Essentials Gel is awesome. It smells good, it lays my hair down on the sides and doesnt flake or make my hair real hard and crunchy. Its a bit pricey, but sometimes you have to pay more for better results.

If the price was a little lower this would be perfect.

This started out for something for my son but then he decided he didn’t want to have products in his hair anymore. It is a free and clean product and 100% vegan. It smells nice and soft and doesn’t have any harsh fragrances or chemicals.

The hold isn’t the greatest, but it works. It is gentle enough for babies but can work on all ages. Even though it worked for me, I don’t think I would buy this again as there are other products that work well for less.

This gel worked really well for me! I had my husband pick some up right before we went out of town. i have extremely thin hair and temple hair that (aggressively) wants to stick straight out constantly.

This didn’t flake at all, or turn white. It was also flexible enough to not keep the comb lines super rigid – not a good look for me since my hair is so thin. I would definitely purchase this again.

Upon opening my gel, my initial reaction was WOW!! The texture is exactly what I was looking for. I’m not a fan of slippery, snooty, flaxseed like texture gels but I did want something with a nice soft hold, a gel with a creamy texture.

Usually when I try a wash and go, my hair gets super frizzy, there isn’t much definition and it only looks decent for one day. I used this product and the Brazilian curl cream together and air dried my hair and girlllll I was so pleased with the results.

There was great definition, barely any frizzyness (I have pretty dry hair), not as much shrinkage as I usually have and it lasts! I’m on day 3 and my curls are still defined AND I didn’t even wrap my hair or use a satin pillow case like I usually do.

It looks better than when I do a braid out too. Overall, im very impressed. I would definitely recommend using this product together with the curl cream and some hair oil for great results :).

I LOVE this gel! I have very thick 3c – 4a curls and this gel really goes great with all my curl creams. It smells great to. A little goes a long way also. Great hold, and frizz just doesnt exist when this gel is used with any moisturizing cream, or curl cream.

I bought this product on clearance and absolutely will pay full price for it. Smells amazing and now my oldest daughter is using it too. I have wavy hair and she has super curly, prone to frizz hair.

It’s the most awesome hair gel on the market, but the manufacturer has apparently decided to stop production on this product. I LOVE IT and am angry it is being taken off the market.

I started using DevaCurl products in 2017. At first, my curls looked great. So when I started noticing my hair becoming very dry in 2018, it didn’t occur to me that the DevaCurl products were the culprit.

Next issue I noticed was the loss of my curl pattern. My curls got more and more loose and some pieces were even straight. Then I started to notice a lot of hair loss in the shower. Next thing I knew, my hair was so thin and stringy in the back that it was see through.

After years of trying to grow my hair out, I was forced to cut several inches off my hair because it had gotten so thin. I was devasted. I went to the doctor thinking it was some sort of hormone imbalance or health issue causing this extreme hair loss.

But my exams and blood tests came back fine. Then in 2019, I started seeing social media posts about DevaCurl causing dry brittle hair and hair loss and it all clicked. I stopped using all DevaCurl products In October 2019 and my hair is almost back to normal.

It’s curly again and the extreme hair loss has stopped. Of course it will take years for my hair to grow back after how much I lost. And DevaCurl has done nothing but deny, gaslight, and victim blame instead of owning up to the damage their products have caused thousands of people!.

I have used this gel for about 10 years and no matter what else I try, nothing comes close to how perfect this makes my 3C curly hair look. I can’t walk out my door without getting compliments on my curls, and I totally credit it to this gel and all of the DevaCurl products.

My hair is cottony soft, so I need a strong hold gel that provides definition and control. This performs beautifully and creates just enough “cast” on my hair that I can then scrunch for gorgeous, bouncy, lightweight, voluminous, defined curls.

I can’t say enough glowing remarks about this gel. Please ignore all of the people making uninformed remarks about DevaCurl making their hair fall out — that is more likely because they are not ever washing their hair.

I use no-poo most days, and regular shampoo about twice per week and I’ve never had an issue. I love all of the Deva products including the no-poo and also the low-poo. I am not sure why all of a sudden people are vilifying the brand; in my opinion, it is truly the best curl brand out there.

Have been using this for several weeks now and have had lots of compliments on my curls. I was looking for an alternative to the Umberto Giannini curl jelly, which I love but seem to get through too quickly.

So glad I tried this and don’t see myself using anything else now. It really helps to define my normally frizzy curls and gives lasting hold. Also great to refresh curls. Really great value for money and can see it lasting ages!! Don’t be put off – feels v thick and sticky at first, but feels really natural on your hair.

I have fine 2C/3A hair that’s transitioning from 3 years worth of keratin treatments. I saw several YT videos praising this gel and decided to give it a try- so happy I did! I love my fancy $30 gels, but this has given me the best refresh results by far.

It’s inexpensive so be sure to use a moisturizing leave-in on wash day, but this refreshes curls perfectly when diluted with a little water. It smells great too- clean and light. Definitely worth a try at this price.

I have 4c hair, very tight curls. More like 4z. Anywho, I was able to slick my hair into a bun using minimal gel and my hair holds with very little flyways. I did stretch my hair with a quick blow dry, which helped with getting it to lay.

I also recommend the OGX Protecting and Silk Blowout Quick Drying Thermal Spray. No heat other than the blow dryer and my bun has been two days strong. Minimal waving up. The gel is so pretty and glittery and it smells lovely.

I recommend to anyone. It doesn’t flake!.

I have 4 c low porosity salt and pepper hair. This did not work for me. First of all the gel is a gold yellow color so it made my bright white hair yellow. Secondly, it is the worst eco styler I have used because, although I used the same amount that I usually use of the other eco stylers, I got very little hold.

My hair looked frizzy immediately. Also the smell did not dissipate, so a day later I still smelled the gel, and I dont like smells in my hair. Every other eco styler I tried was better than this one.

10x super olive is the best- its moisturizing and has hold. Hope Walmart will start to carry that one.

eco gel may be good if you have 2c- 3b hair and you want to add some hold to your curls , but if you want something to keep your styles in tact, for instance if you’re aiming to do a slick back pony or bun , eco gel is a terrible option.

it literally absorbs into my hair when i try to do a slick back and my hair goes soft. terrible hold especially if you want your style to look good throughout the day. Also, the container is very misleading.

On the bottom it states “ Max hold 10. ” In reality the hold is roughly 2 out of 10.

Love, love, love this product!!! My hair is prone to frizz. I have tried so many products, but THIS ONE has eliminated my frizz! I also use the multi-style cream and leave-in miracle worker. I twist my hair, and after a few days, I take out the twists.

My hair looks fabulous, and I always receive sooo many compliments. My hair is never dry nor dull. It leaves my hair well moisturized. The product does not flake either. I will never use another product!.

I had to use so much product to just have a hold that barely lasts a few hours. It also flakes like crazy over the next few days. Zero moisture in this product. Get either Uncle Funky’s Daughter curl stimulatior gel or the Wetline Extreme gel instead.

I was so excited to try this product given the great reviews. It made my scalp, ears, and upper back very itchy and my ears were swollen. I was only able to fall asleep after taking some allergy medication.

I was hurrying to go to bed so I did not use a conditioner so I know that my reaction was not caused by some interaction with my regular conditioner. It might work for other people but sadly, I am now afraid to give this product a second chance.

I really like this Aloe Vera with Agave Control Hair Gel by Chi. I have thick, coarse 3B curls. It takes a lot to control this mess 😃. The gel is 94% natural helps define curls. I have noticed that it helps control frizz really good for me.

It does have a little bit of a crunch on the first day post wash. I do use a lot of product though. It softens nicely by day 2 without losing its holding defrizzing power. It has a nice soft smell The price was reasonable especially considering you get a product that works well! I recommend this gel!.

I fell in love with product with the first use of it!!! Added two or three pumps in my hands and onto my towel dried hair started from the ends and whatever was left on my hands I went upward towards the roots.

Only because I was afraid it would look greasy if I added it to my roots but it did not look or make my hair greasy in any kind of way. I let my hair air dry on its own no heat added and my hair looked pretty enough to wear it all natural with just this product in it.

It enhances my curls and held its shape until my next wash. It really made my curly hair spiral and surprisingly enough it held its shape without it feeling hard or crunchy. This is not at all like a gel what so ever.

I’m kind of confused because I’ve bought this once before and it worked pretty well and thought it was worth purchasing again. The second time around the formula was not consistent with the first. It left my hair feeling plastic like and looked like gel application.

I had to redo and redistribute product through my hair multiple times through the day and had to pretty much was it every day because it left my hair feeling so bad. The frizz control wasn’t top notch on either purchase but this second experience was awful.

This stuff is freaking awesome!!!!! The best gel I have ever used. I never liked putting gel in my curls I only did it for ponytails etc but this gel makes me love putting it in my hair. This gives me the most defined, shiny, non greasy beautiful curls.

I have low porosity 4b hair. I checked the YouTube reviews and it looked great. but it didn’t work for me. the gel didn’t have enough hold for my wash-n-go. after the gel dried it leave my hair very very dry and with a crunchy feeling.
