20 Best Gear Ratio For Hill Climbing Road Bike (2023 Updated)

I have riden this bike 6-7 times, going short distances and have had an issue on every trip. changing gears is not a smooth process due to constantly popping in the chain and loud noise. adjusting the gears throughout the ride for different slopes is difficult, and certain combinations of gears are not possible to do.

The chain dislodges, and pops continuously, especially during uphill climbs. The gear in the back tire came cracked along the ridges. I have yet to reach the vendor after making several calls, emails, and warranty work requests.

The vendor does not answer the phones. The brakes barely stops the bicycle even at low speeds which is very dangerous. There has been several trips I’ve had to walk it back home because of issues with the bike.

The chain guard popped off on my third trip.

It’s fast it’s amazing, love the change in the gears. It’s like a mountain bike, I use it to go hiking. Rt now I’m using it every morning it’s amazing love it.

I bought this bike for road treks and I have been happy. There are two sets of hand brakes, so you can comfortably ride low or high and be able to break. It shifts easily and is great going up hill. It is a sturdy bike and lightweight.

I haven’t had a new bike since I was a kid. Recently having a new baby, I wanted something that could fun as an activity. I like the looks of the spike very much, very sleek looking, and read multiple reviews on it.

I have some of that myself and lasted 45 minutes, and brought it to a local bike shop to get fine tuned. I also purchased a new seat as the stock seat was rather uncomfortable. After only about 10 or 15 miles on it, I am very satisfied.

I wish it shifted a little smoother, but then again it’s not a two or $3000 bike. It retails for just under 500, however there was a promotion going on to save 20%, and I purchased it for $375 shipped.

Very happy with my purchase, would highly recommend to someone beginning in the biking world.

For what it is worth-“excellent in terms of upgrade”. I was looking for an upgrade from 2×10 drivetrain to a 1×10 system. This cassette provided me exactly the opportunity and spare part required. The upgrade gave me a granny gear with 46T and now I can conquer the brutal climbs with much ease.

The cassette quality is decent, though a tad softer for the trails that I indulge in. That is because, it is on lower side of Deore seriesi. e. M4100. I was looking for a cassette from series higher than M4100, and was ready to pay more than the 3500 chips, that I paid for this one.

However, I could not find one, so settled for the M4100. This is a decent cassette for the price (3500INR) that it is available on Cyclop. A cassette from higher up series would have been more sturdier, even though more expensive.

This M4100 cassette should be fine, if not subjected to too much torture, though I would still be at worry, because my biking is totally off road, consisting of rocks, pebbles and tree roots. With a bit of care, I hope that I will be able to manage it for some good time.

Installation was fairly easy at home with a Icetoolz Shimano Cassette Lockring Tool purchased from Cyclop, and a 21mm spanner. WORDS OF CAUTION:- Adjustments were not that breeze though, and I ran into some issues.

You would be needing a long cage derailleur (SGS from Shimano). Besides, you may have to either use a derailleur hanger extension or a B tension screw of at least 25mm (the 20mm did not work in my case, so that to swap it for a 25 mm one).

Also, it is best if you get a new chain too. Continuing with old chain will give you problem, as the granny clog (46T) would be needing some more links than presently available on your existing chain.

The shifting is top notch and precise. If it is not, check for hanger alignment. Over all an excellent cassette, if not perfect in terms of sturdiness.

Well built standard cassette. Nothing special about it. I didn’t get to use it yet. I was unaware that the 9 speed XT derailleur on my 2009 Jamis Dragon 29er was only capable of using a cassette with 34 teeth or less.

I contacted Cambria and told me I was ineligible for a return because I had taken the cassette out of the packaging and mounted it onto my rear wheel. Fortunately Raceface makes a derailleur extension called the Roadlink that will allow me to use a cassette up to 40t.

This sucks because Sunrace makes a 40t cassette for 9 speed bikes. If I knew this was going to be the way I was going to have to do things I would’ve gotten the Sunrace 40t cassette in the beginning.

Have only rode less than ten miles so far. Quick and easy to assemble, box arrived in good condition, damage to bike. Rear derailer shifter and brakes already seem tuned accurately. Crank derailer shifter shifts through all 3 crank gears but is only labeled for H & L gears so will have to relabel shifter myself.

My first road bike so can’t compare to others and been over 20 years since I’ve rode. Did replace seat with one that is better cushioned. Nice sleek looking frame. Alot stiffer ride than mountain bikes but to be expected on road bikes.

May see about putting a little wider tires for softer ride, comes with 28 wide. All n all I would recommend this bike to anyone wanting a nice road bike for begginers on a budget wanting a sleek look and nice color combo (black & white w/red accents).

Pretty much, you get what you pay for. It’s a cheap road bike. The quality overall is ok, just ok. The gears is the single thing thats not of good quality. Everything is ok. The gears are cheap, and switch without you even switching them.

The chain popped off multiple times as I was riding it. I tried adjust the derailer but still not quite as accurate as other high end gear brands. Its a bike for a entry level rider whose main concern is price over quality.

The bike looked pretty good for the money for one season. Recently I faced with 2 issues which should not ever happen so fast on lightly used bike – the fork started leaking and slacking. I feel it’s too dangerous to continue riding on so loose fork – and right nut of bottom bracket if fall out of the frame (inner thread on frame looks damaged).

The repair cost is more than the bike costs – no sense to repair. To buy it you should be ok to pay $200+ for the bike for just one season. After the first 10-15 rides it falls apart.

Used this for a while now. Looks almost factory, works really well. Using with an R8000 rear mech set up 1x with a Sram 10-42 cassette.

I bought this 3 months ago and have put almost 200 miles on it. Great all-around bike! The lack of a front derailleur is actually great and is my first time selecting this configuration. No chain drops in the front gear anymore, less maintenance.

Rear derailleur is TIGHT, chain shifts with a direct nearly immediate metal to metal contact with a satisfying audible “chink. ” Shifting is very responsive. Brakes are decent considering they’re tektro’s.

Would prefer shimano’s as they’re much more responsive and grip harder. MSRP price point is a little steep for components included, however I got this on sale and will say that’s a great value. Tires are a unique size and wide and treaded enough for gravel and mixed pack while also being low-profile enough to provide a smooth and near frictionless ride on pavement.

Colorway is just so crisp and the yellow makes for great static visibility. Overall frame design yields a comfortable riding stance, I am 6’ and purchased the Large frame size. The seat is comfortable for casual rides but I do throw on my chamois for anything over 7-8 miles.

The bike was safely and quickly shipped. Easy to assemble, tools included if you need them, tires only inflated to hold their shape (presta valves). Lift the entire bike out of the box and then begin.

There are some good assembly videos on you tube. This is a South East Asia bike, Cambodian frame and Vietnamese tires. Only one ugly weld at the rear wheel die cast. Paint, fit and finish, otherwise, were very good.

I prefer a motorcycle brake layout, front brake on right, easy to change. For the most part derailleurs were very close, probably could have lived without tinkering, but hey. All other adjustments and alignments good.

The only real disappointments are the pedals, plan on upgrading, and the residue left on the crank arms from the Left and Right stickers (nasty). This is my new commuter bike to take some miles off the MTB, I commute everyday so it will get fenders and a rack soon.

The bosses seem well placed and plentiful (will chase the threads when mounting). Rides nice, great commuter and Sunday ’round the park and bike path bike. Over all quite pleased, but, there’s this little voice in my head asking if I wouldn’t have been just as happy with the Metric One.

This bike looks amazing. It really is a beautifully crafted bike, but the shifting components feel like a bike from from a low end budget box store. The video shows people tearing it up going up hill doing wheelies, but boy, you’ll end up smashing your teeth into the handle bars and shredding your leg on the aluminum peddles with the way the bike Lurches into a higher gear.

At this price point, out of the box, this is unacceptable. Do not get this for hard riding or up hill riding. You will be cursing every gash on your calf you get as your foot finds a sudden neutral while the derailer in the back figures out what it wants to do.

I posted a video review of this XC7000 on YouTube! Really nice expensive look! I just bought this Eurobike XC7000 a few days ago as of 2-22-19. I picked out the blue and black. I also had a choice of white or red.

I liked the blue best. This bike was a GREAT first impression by me! The style resembles the professional race bike that cost $7000 or more!! Riding my very first 10 miles: This XC7000 rides like any other road bike in all honesty.

I do have a Schwinn Solara 700c road bike. Also have a Eurobike XC550! All in all, this XC7000 rides and performs very similar to my Schwinn Solara for the basics! Like acceleration, ride quality, and general use.

BUT, now, the main difference here: The XC7000 does have a HIGHER top speed! YES! This bike can go faster than any of my other 2 bikes on the upper end! I have gone speeds I was never able to reach with the other 2 bikes I have.

Especially the Eurobike XC550! I guess it has to do with the aero dynamics of the deep rims! Less wind resistance! So overall, this XC7000 is great for the “top end” use. Like racing, THAT’s for sure! And the style and LOOKs is KILLER! And should be able to turn heads! Basing on my first 10 miles! I LOVE THE XC7000! Very nice bike.

And the that top speed is GREAT!.

I did have to put it together but this was explained and expected, I did not have to do a lot of tuning and it seems to ride well. The front gears do not shift as well as I would like and it did miss a gear a couple of times but this is workable and it could just use more tuning.

The back seems to shift perfectly without any issues. I did have to fine tune the breaks but this was also expected. I did have trouble with the adjustable seat staying up but the next day it was all good.

It could have had moisture on it that made it not want to hold. I did have trouble with one of the pedals not wanting to screw in properly. I finally got it working but a week later It fell out while riding and I later found that it had stripped itself out and I had to find a way to repair it.

Not only was I impressed, just about every one that has seen it, felt the same! I belong to a circle of old serious riders who have had numerous bikes and have been riding for years! The bicycle fits and rides well.

For the price, its hard to beat,and all riders agree with me!. thanks!.

I’m very happy with the handlebar mounted case for my iPhone 12. The amount is very secure. The waterproof cover came in handy on my first ride when I hit an unexpected rain storm. My phone stayed completely dry and I was still able to access it.

My only concern was that I didn’t completely twist the phone when I took it off the mount. The attachment points were out of alignment and I didn’t have the alignment tool with me. I ended up using a tool from my kit and putting some deep scratches in the housing.

Be careful when mounting and on mounting your phone to make sure the alignment is correct. A small tool for fixing this is included in the kit but I didn’t have it out on the ride. Lesson learned!.

This phone case and handlebar mount system is awesome! It’s so nice to pull my phone off quickly and grab that shot. I was able to catch an eagle and a deer in the same photo. I have tried every smart phone mount out there on my bicycles and none has allowed me the ability to quickly grab my phone and know that it is completely Secure while I ride.

I highly recommend this product and am buying one for my husband and my brother.

Item arrived intact, was an easy install. The only issue is that if you have a case that you like for your phone, you’re going to have to change to one compatible with the SP Connect. Not really a problem – easy to change over when I get on the bike.

Just something to think about. The phone cradle holds the phone securely – I’ve gone over some mild jumps on my MTB, and no problem at all. Highly recommend it !.

I absolutely love the machining of Sram cassettes, starting from their mid priced models all the way to the top. As long as the drivetrain is maintained on a regular basis you can expect them to last.

The shifting is crisp and precise particularly when spec’ed with Sram derailleurs which are 1:1 actuation. I have quite a few of this model with some as old as 10 years ago and others as recent as last year since I still use 2×10 systems on some of my bikes.

You can even convert it a 1×10 system by using a 42T gear extender and a narrow wide chainring. You to have to have at least a medium cage rear derailleur and a longer B screw/bolt to compensate for the bigger gear.

Overall, I would recommend it to someone whose one a budget but doesn’t want to compromise quality and performance.

If you are like most regular cyclists, your arent the fastest in the world and hills are your kryptonite. When on a flat will you ever spin 53/11, heck 50/11? Never. Get rid of the 11, and take the 36 for the hills.

This 12-36 cassette is nice because you keep shifting tighter while getting more climbing. Ive owned this cassette for a year and its really helpful. Just knowing you have another gear on hills, even if not using it, is nice.

This one was purchased for my wifes bike so she could experience what I have. Freedom to ride and not worry (as much) about hills.

This cassette is ideal. With this setup I flow to work place, I complete daily tasks much easier, for Sundays fun, charity events, even with full load to bike-camp or for the occasional mid distance bunch of friends routes.

First, these 12-13-15-17 cogs for lucky-flats speed up, then my short comfort zone with the 19 – 22 – 25, the help 28-32 to hill up streets to highlands or difficult out-city zones, and the friendly 36 cog, for the “just in case” siuations.

Of course, it is great for the faster bikes such as the slow speed ones. Now I commute with full hand options.

I bought this bike back in June of 2019 for $130. It was on-sale during christmas of 2018 for $99. It’s crazy how the prices have jumped up so high for this bike. I have been riding this bike on and off since I bought it, usually in the beginning of each cycling season (like the past weekend), using it as a training bike.

Simply because this thing is so heavy! It certainly cannot compared to my other sub 20lb bikes. It is very stable and steady. Hence, i have converted to a somewhat gravel bike. Upgraded the tires to gravel, brake pads to shimano ultegra, changed out the 14-28T freewheel to TZ500 mega range for better climbing, upgraded to tourney UN300 BB, TY500 rear derailleur, TZ500 front derailleur, and HG40 chain.

It is a budget built, but for a $130 bike? I have already spent too much on parts. It shifts so much better now and never have to use the middle and small front chain rings. I highly recommend to take out the brake line and fully re-grease them and the housing lines too.

It came with no grease whatsoever. This is a solid bike, but for $350-370, no! It’s too expensive for what it is. The kent Nazz provides a better value because of the disk brakes. Other than the brakes and double front chain rings (which is the correct setup for all road bikes), there is nothing different between Road Tech and Nazz.

Nazz just provides better value in price and offers more! Oh yeah, one more thing before you buy this bike. The customer service at Kent is the worst i have ever encountered. Don’t expect much help from them, if you like to jump through hoops.

If you buy it in the stores, look over EVERYTHING closely. If you ordered online, the first sign of issues, call Walmart customer server, return it and have them pick it up. In contusion, i would recommend the bike, but not for the current price.

Nazz is a better choice, if you must go the walmart steel road bike route.

Liked the color. Great looking bike. Mine came with a bent front rim. Called technician and they sent a rim and tire that doesn’t match the bike. They sent white wall tire white and bright trim. Rim doesn’t match either.

Now they are giving me a hard time bc I didn’t buy a mismatched bike. I want a refund asap. Just remember if you buy this bike kent doesn’t stand behind their product’s.

So the weather is getting nice out and even though in the past ive had bad luck with walmart bikes i decided to try again. Saw this Kent bike on a huge sale, seemed like a fair deal for a entry level road bike and the manufacture seemed pretty good too.

I ordered this bike in a box so I could ensure it was put together well and wasnt one of those outside models that sits in the weather. After getting it all together, next came the adjustments (these bikes will not come set up at all) after a bit of tinkering i got the derailleur set just right and the brakes right where they should be.

Now here come the problems. The front derailleur is not a click style, you have to search for the gear which while riding is rather difficult. The front brake bracket was bent slightly, no matter what adjustment i made they rubbed.

The brakes that come stock will have to be changed out as well, they dont grip well. And the worst problem, the bearings front and rear were Grundy, like they had sand in them. The rear wheel had about 1/2 of walk as well, both the rear rim was out of alignment and there was play in the bearings.

Being a bike tech, I pulled apart the rear wheel and repacked the bearings but it was too late, the rear axle was beyond repair and the rear cassette was in bad shape too, so bad it would grab while riding and fling the derailleur.

So needless to say, yes this bike is cheap but you get what you pay for, expect to spend at the very least $80-150 more just to have everything completely gone through and if parts are broken expect more.

I contacted Kent and they wanted so much information as well as pictures and videos of the issue and it still wouldve been well over a week before parts arrived and that wouldnt cover the labor to replace them.

I’ve since returned this bike and bought one from a local bike shop. Really a shame, I expected much more.

Not quite scary with these big deep wheel. I am already riding a 58mm deep rim on couple of my bikes. Love the colour scheme. Delivery spot on as always.

Ordered it about two weeks ago and Mike’s Bikes included free shipping and at a minimum cost, assembly on site. Prior to me receiving the bike, it went on sale. I contacted them and notified them of this and they immediately refunded me the difference! I got it yesterday and took it out for a 35 mile introductory ride.

Perfection! If or when I need an upgrade, Mike’s Bikes will be my go to! Ride on!.

The service was good from sigma. I’ve been generally happy with the bike, but unfortunately it had a few drive train issues that are still being investigated which has somewhat diminished the new bike experience.

There were knocking and grinding noises when pedalling hard. A new BB was needed. The saddle also slipped 2/3 times despite tightening to the correct NM. Looking forward to riding the bike when it’s all fixed.

This is a brilliant bike. I had been unsure for a long time about whether to replace my relative spec aluminium bike. But my 56cm frame Supersix is a game changer for me. It fits brilliantly. I am 6ft so the seat is high but it’s a really good position for me.

In 200km so far I have had no discomfort – if anything I am more comfortable. The bike is rapid and the power transfer excellent. I have seen my average watt output increase by around 50w. Which is impressive but makes me think I should have bought this bike a long time ago.

I have had my Haanjo 5 for 3 weeks now, so it’s time for a review. First some background on my perspective: I have been a road bike rider for 30+ years and own several road bikes. This is my first gravel bike My experience with Backcountry: I was comfortable sizing the bike myself based on the geometry chart.

I ordered online. I received an email soon afterward from Backcountry. I was a bit disappointed that it would take 6 days to build up and check out the bike and ship it. The bike was very well packaged and was in the largest bike box I have seen.

The frame was zip tied to a heavy cardboard “frame” and the wheels were separated from the frame with a thick cardboard divider. Everything was wrapped in cardboard. The bike arrived in perfect condition.

As far as setup, I just needed to install the seatpost and attach the handlebars. Out of the box the brakes and shifting were well adjusted and did not require any touch up. When the bike arrived, the rear tire was flat.

I pumped it up and it went soft within a couple of hours. I tried shaking the tire around to get the sealant to fill in and did a short ride. Still went soft. I contacted Backcountry and they sent me some sealant and a valve remover tool.

After adding an additional 2oz of sealant and shaking the wheel every which way, I finally got it to seal and it’s been fine since. The Bike: First off, the bike in a size XL weighed 21lbs, 10oz without pedals or accessories.

I thought that was decent at this price point. The Shimano GRX group is awesome. Shifting is very crisp and reliable. This is my first experience with hydraulic disc brakes so I can’t compare to others, but to me they work well; good modulation and not grabby.

The bike has a long wheelbase so it feels very stable even when you are sliding around a bit on gravel. The bike inspires confidence when cornering. A couple of nits: the bottle cages are mounted very low on the frame.

Maybe that is normal for gravel bikes but I found it to be a long reach. The Shimano brake levers can be quite slippery. If your fingers are wet/sweaty this could be an issue. The Riddler tires worked fine for me under road and gravel conditions, but they are quite noisy on the road.

You do lose a bit of speed on the road compared to a full road bike, but it’s not a huge difference. Normally, I find the saddles that come with a bike to be throwaways. I decided to give the Silverado saddle a try since the shape is quite similar to the saddle I use now.

The saddle has dense foam and feels a bit hard at first. After a couple of 25 mile rides I like the saddle and plan to keep it. The swept back handlebar works well and adds comfort. Overall, I think this is a good value for $2k.

It has a decent frame and fork and a very good components spec.

This bike was my first “real bike” and there are some features I love. The handlebars and really comfortable, it’s pretty light for a bike if it’s size, love the look of it, and it really can get up to some high speeds.

However, purchasing it online and trying to assemble it myself was a little past my pay grade. I had to take it to a bike mechanic. After being ridden for a while the brakes are still squeaky and a bit slow but I assume that will improve over time with the disc brakes.

My biggest gripe with the bike is the gearshift. It often gets stuck in a gear so I essentially have to ride it constantly in a low gear as if it was a single speed to avoid ending up stuck in a high gear on a climb.

Don’t regret buying it and I really do like the bike, but it definitely isn’t perfect.

I purchased this bike a month ago after researching gravel bikes. I is a quality bike, carbon fiber fork and quality components for the reasonable price point. This was one of the models I’d read reviews on and was considering.

As I checked out the stock at the Moosejaw store I saw this one, in my size sitting on the rack. The bike expert and I talked through the bike’s quality components and then I took it out for a test. The bike performed well and has since done great on my gravel road (no joke).

Smooth shifting and braking. Quite light to move around and get on/off my car rack and home rack. I plan to enjoy it for years to come!.

Very impressed with this bike after just a few rides. The Fenix SL frame is a thing of visual beauty and real-world performance – remarkably compliant and comfortable on less than perfect roads, while still being as stiff as a pure race bike.

The bike accelerates quickly from a stop, is confidence-inspiring on high speed descents, and tackles hills with nary a complaint. Coming from 25mm rubber the 28s on the SL40 took some getting used to initially, but I can’t go back now.

The only letdown with the bike spec is the saddle, but one that is easily remedied.

I road this bike uphill and the seat went up my rear!. It is not very good at responding as an example turning sharp edges which is unacceptable for this type of bike. the price for this road bike is incredibly expensive and should be around 500 for this quality.

I ride through Alberta, the Rockies and Badlands. It does zip down the hills but its ascending is like a cow. I ride a Canon now so its steezy.

The stiffness of the carbon frame helps absorb bumps so your back won’t be soar after long rides. The weight is perfect for climbing steep inclines and the hydraulic disk brakes provides excellent control on fast descents.

I am so happy I got this bike.

A really great gravel bike. Done a few rides already here in Cornwall. A really good mix of trail and road. My only quibble is the tyres. For the money the bike should come with tubeless tyres fitted.

Got a puncture on my first ride so went and spent £100 going tubeless with wtb expanse 32mm. Rides very simmilar off road and rolls much better on road. I would recommend this bike. I have size XXL which fits me perfectly and I am 6 ft 7in tall.

I bought this 16 months ago, to serve primarily as a winter road bike (in the north of England). It’s done right through 2 winters, riding 4 times a week. I actually prefer it overall to my Orbea Avant.

It’s very slightly heavier. However, it seems to be more agile and responsive generally, but most definitely on icy, muddy, wet Yorkshire lanes. It arrived on time, was well set-up and – with the additions of some pedals – on the road the next day.

Absolutely no complaints: a grand bike.

Coming from other disciplines this is in effect my first drop bar bicycle. I am very happy so far. The bike has good details and equipment. I do however must say something about the paint job, that in some very small places leaves something to be desired, but this would be a production hiccup.

As a previous road and mountain bike racer in my younger days, I retrofitting my Soltera 7 slightly. I switched out the stock bars for a straight bar in part because it gives the bike more stability, added 700 x 40 trail tires as I live on a dirt road and the bikes paths near me are all dirt, threw on my SPD peddles and got rid of the kickstand.

Yesterday, I rode up Chuchara Pass (with battery to spare) in Southern Colorado which was something I could not have done prior to the Soltera 7. I try to only use the assist when I really need it and the weight of the bike is such that I can ride it without assist a lot of the time, but just knowing it is there allows me to increase my distance on rides where before my body would have made that determination.

One important factor in my choosing this electric bike was the weight; I had to be able to lift it ( I am 5’1) in and out of my car as I don’t have a rack yet. I can do that with the Soltera 7. It doesn’t weigh that much more than my Juliana dual suspension mountain bike I recently sold this year.

And as someone who purchased an electric car last year, the absolute fun of this bike reminds me of those feelings I had when I first drove my EV…. laughter and joy out on the road and feeling like a kid again! I do also have solar panels so I can charge the EV and the Soltera and feel pretty darn great that it is powered from start to finish with clean energy (mine and the sun!).

The world is a tough place these days and finding joy can sometimes be difficult, but the Soltera 7 has brought many moments of joy and for that I am grateful. It is a little slow to kick in once you request the assist and some front suspension would be nice (which would make it heavier and more expensive ), the brakes are quite squeaky which is kind of annoying but can be taken care of, but life is about tradeoffs and there are not many things this bike asks you to look past.

It is strangely funny that I have returned to the hardtail bikes of the early 90’s, but I am okay with that; what I get in return is worth some moments of numbing hands! I do love this bike and it has brought me a lot of joy.

It reminds me of the strength I had as a racer in my 20’s and that is priceless!.

I purchased this bike to flatten some hills on my commute and boost my energy for after-work trips/shopping, and this bike has fit the bill perfectly. I wanted a bike, not a glorified motorcycle, so I was willing to trade some power and range for a lower weight and sleeker design.

However, in my experience thus far, the Soltera is still more than powerful enough for most reasonable trips and light hauling. This was my first e-bike purchase, so if I were to do my search over again there are some things I would look at differently, but it is hard to seriously complain given the value you get for this bike.

1. Accessories: The bike has a built-in bell, which is neat. It was easy to install a rear rack and rear fender, but I was not able to fit the front fender that I bought, because the brakes get in the way and the front wheel sits very close to the fork.

I’m sure I can figure out a work-around one of these days, but it would be great if Aventon could produce some custom-fit fenders for the bike, as the higher speeds/heavier bike fling up way more muck than a traditional bike.

Also, the rear lights are not visible with panniers on. Integrating them into some stock fenders could hit two birds with one stone. 2. Suspension: My old, manual bike does not have suspension, so I wasn’t too concerned about getting suspension on my e-bike.

However, the higher speeds/heavier bike makes bumps and potholes a lot more punishing than on a traditional bike. If you are forced to ride on very bad roads, then I would consider a model that has suspension.

But, my experience has smoothed out after learning to ride more carefully. 3. Throttle: The Soltera’s throttle only provides power up to the limit of the current PAS level. On the one hand, it makes plain sense that you would want to be able to set a speed limit on the throttle.

However, this design means that you cannot use the throttle while the bike is in manual mode, or for an additional boost while at a low PAS setting. Instead, you must quickly crank up the PAS and then throttle, which is not as elegant as it could be.

Constructive criticism aside, I really love my Soltera 7, and ditto what other positive reviews are saying. I highly recommend it to others looking for a city e-bike.

This review is based on observations from riding my Soltera 7 about 200 miles in the 3 weeks I’ve had it. The Soltera 7 provides what I was looking for in an ebike – it’s relatively lightweight, enabling me ride most of the time without any assist.

The riding position is comfortable – somewhat aggressive rather than totally upright. I’ve been riding bikes for over 40 years for transportation, fitness, and touring. At 81 years old, my riding stamina is certainly not what it once was; the Soltera 7 with it’s electric assist enables rides to be both a workout and enjoyable.

When hills, headwinds, and high temperatures lower the “fun factor,” a bit of assist puts the fun back into riding. It’s my “Time Machine,” letting me ride like I did 25 years ago. Positive features: • Easy and comfortable to ride without any assist.

When assist is used, the bike is like a rocket! • The 7-speed gearing range works well for flat terrain and moderate hills without any assist. • The Selle Royal saddle is very comfortable. This is the only bike I’ve ever purchased that had a saddle comfortable for me.

• The Soltera will accommodate wider tires, if desired. Not-so-positive features (which were simple to overcome): • The handlebar grips are uncomfortably hard. I replaced them with softer grips. (The stock grips have a metal collar tightened with a screw; loosening the screw lets the grips slide off.

) • The fixed stem did not enable the handlebar to be raised to a height comfortable for me, so I replaced the stem with an adjustable stem. If the Soltera came with an adjustable stem, like the Aventon Pace 500 Next-Gen does, handlebar height could be adjusted.

• The tubes’ pesta valves do not have removable cores, which enables tube sealant to be easily added. I live in Arizona, where virtually every plant has thorns, making sealant is very useful. I found a youtube video that shows how sealant can be added to a non-removable core presta valve with a syringe, however, providing removable core valves would make adding sealant easier.

I am very happy with my Soltera 7. My wife, who rides less and slower than I, purchased a Soltera 7 at the same time as I. Now we can ride together at the same speed, at efforts that are pleasant for both of us.

I bought this bicycle a month ago, and was first impressed by the quality and finish ! It looks superb. On the first ride it was amazing how light the bike felt, and how comfortable it was. It is smooth and reactive in a way that I have not had before.

A very easy bike to get used to. My second Pinarello and I think this one is even better than the first !.

I bought this new machine having not spent anything during the last year! The experience with Sigma Sports was flawless as usual – a big thanks to Leon for his expertise in making the fitting and buying process fluent in these difficult times.

The bike itself is something I have been dreaming of for sometime (2012 Olympics) so the wait has been very worthwhile a great bike.

What a bike, can’t help smiling every time I ride it. There’s a saying “you get what you pay for “ in this case money well spent. The ride is smooth and comfortable and the Di2 is sublime. Love it! Just love it!.

I bought the Soltera after trying out another ebike. I mainly use it to get some exercise (not commute and leisure) and so wanted something that can be a regular bike and also assist me on demand. I love the Soltera and have now put on 100+ miles ina few weeks.

It feels like a regular bike most of the time. Wen at a traffic light, the assist feature as it avoids slow starts and does not hold up and frustrate vehicle drivers – definitely feels safer. Observations – 1.

Adding a suspension fork will help withstand rough patches o the road 2. It has been difficult to switch gears smoothly across the range of gears without some sounds. I even took it to a Aventon certified bike shop to get the adjustments done but not satisfactory.

3. The assist is not very useful when the bike is not on an inclined road – seems to suddenly kick in when the slope changes. After a while I can anticipate the level of assist and the effect it will have based on the incline.

Since I use so little assist, I realized that after 65 miles my battery was still over 90% charged. The charge indicator is a little jumpy in that it is not uniformly decreasing with battery usage. Possibly due to recharging during downhills, but I thought that the Soltera did not have the recharge feature.

4. The Aventon mileage shows incorrect distances (up to 15%) compared to the iPhone app. The distance shown is less than actual distance covered. This is unfortunate, so I have been using the Apple iPhone to track my rides.

This may be because the distance is calculated based on the tire diameter and not a GPS. 5. Really miss the bottle holder (horizontal one is not helpful for water bottles as they bounce off), had to buy a saddle bag which works great.

Not sure why Aventon ignores this request that has been long standing. Overall a great bike that I would recommend whole-heartedly for someone who is transitioning from a regular bike to an ebike for exercise/enjoying short 10-15 mile bike runs.

I am writing this review from the prospective of a road biking enthusiast who for many years bicycled the roads in Maine (where I live), Portugal, Montreal, and California together with my wife. We do day trips on both easy and challenging routes and have not lost our love for the sport even as e-bikes have begun to proliferate to older riders of our generation.

The reason I purchased a Alventon Soltera 7-speed was for a totally different experience in the immediate area where I live, surrounded by a number of “killer” hills that even the young, physically fit Amish riders strain to climb.

Normally we load our bikes on a car rack and travel a short distance to country roads where the hills are less daunting. So being able to hop on an e -bike in my driveway and take off in either direction for a short neighborhood jaunt is an attractive alternative.

Also, before we do a road bike ride I need to change into my riding outfit, fill my water bottle, make sure I put my clipless pedal shoes in the car, and place two bicycles on the rack. With my e-bike ride I only need to put on my helmet.

I chose a 350 watt bike over the 500 as I wanted something closer to a regular bicycle and not a motor scooter. I also chose an Aventon bike for its comparatively low cost as this was not going to be my primary two-wheel vehicle.

I already own two carbon-framed road bicycles and my wife has two carbon-framed hybrids. We each keep one in Maine and the other in California. So here’s my review after assembling a Soltera and taking four 10-12—mile rides up and down some fairly steep hills.

First on the plus side. The video on how to assemble a Soltera is excellent. It took me a couple of hours but I was working methodically to make sure I did it right. Everything fit into place although all the controls on the handlebar were set in awkward positions.

The numerical readout for the manual shifter, for example, was placed upside-down. All had to be readjusted. The bike ran well, did all I wanted it to do, and my wife liked it too. We agreed to share it and not get a second one.

Coordinating the manual shift with the assist to make a smooth ride takes some practice. I used 30% of battery power on a 12-mile trip with both uphill assist and downhill coasting. That comes close to the bike’s 40-mile average range, according to the company.

The customer service appears to be very good. When I called about the charger that wasn’t displaying a fully charged battery they quickly offered to send me a replacement. However, I am still waiting to receive it.

On the negative side, the motor whines a little too loud although I am used to a more silent biking experience. On very steep hills a fairly strong pedaling assist is needed even when the power is set at 5, the max.

(That’s where the 500 watt would have come in handy. ) For safety, it’s good to ride with the rear red lights and front light on in daylight although the display dims when these lights are on and makes it hard to see in bright light.

The battery does not come on and off easily as the front tire gets in the way. All things considered the Aventon Soltera 7-speed is a good value for the money and fun to ride around the neighborhood.

The more expensive e-bikes, as much as $10,000 so I am told, have their place but I would rather invest my money in bikes requiring total human energy.

I have had this bike now for a few months so thought I would be able to leave a more detailed review after around 1000K on the bike since purchase. Firstly, Max at Sigma was super helpful, advising me on the cervelo range online and the differences between this, the S3 and the Caledonia.

Overall, I thought the R-Series the best bet for what I was after – an all-rounder with strengths more on the climbing than sprinting end of the spectrum. First impressions of the bike – wow! The colour scheme looks amazing and the accessories such as saddle, wheels, handlebar etc are all really high end so very impressed.

Only slightly disappointing thing was that although the wheels and tyres are tubeless ready, if you want to run tubeless you have to set these up yourself (they come with inner tubes) so something to bear in mind.

For a climbing bike, the R-Series frame is way more aero focussed than I was expecting and is amazing on both the flat and climbs – I have found it really easy to get out the saddle on the tough climbs and super responsive.

Overall I couldn’t be happier with the bike and it is a terrific all-rounder which excels on all terrain, is aero on the flat and climbs amazing too. I have found the weight on a 56 to be around circa-8kg, which is absolutely fine considering the aero shape of the frame and disc brakes.

If you are looking for an all-rounder which is great for long rides with steep climbs, but can still hold its own on the flats, I have found the R-Series to be a solid choice!.

Have so far ridden about 1,000 miles on the R-Series. Bought it just before prices went up at the start of 2021. My first Cervelo & I’m seriously impressed. The build quality, lightness, brakes & components were all a step up for me over my previous Cannondale.

I’m 6’1” and I went for the 58 frame which was the right move. Geometry is racey but not at all extreme, I regularly do 100km rides and have no discomfort (after a bike fitting). There’s some nice aero touches to the frame design which you can’t really see in these photos.

I’d estimate total weight to be 7. 8kg. Bike is a bit pricey compared to other bikes you can get with the same components but then the waiting times for those bikes are probably huge. I’ve become a big Cervelo fan off the back of buying this bike & would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a race/endurance bike.

Oh, & the service from Sigma was first class as ever :).

Light, super-responsive and comfortable. Pushes you on up the hills and rolls incredibly well on the flat. Switched the tyres for 28mm Conti GP5000 TLs setup as tubeless – fast and grippy. Nearly went for the Caledonia which is receiving a lot of attention but glad I opted for the R-Series has the same stack and reach but is lighter, still takes 30mm tyres, and has an 11-30 cassette rather than 11-34 which needs a long cage rear mech.

Realistically I won’t do all-day rides with some gravel but a mix of 1-3hr rides, sportives and occasionally bigger events like the Etape.

I originally wrote a complete different review and updated it the more I rhode the bike and the more upgrades I put on it. Looking back I was really soft on the review and tried too hard to like this bike.

I accept full responsibilty for my dissappointment as I had previously bought 2 Specialized “Pitch” xc models for my Wife and daughter. You couldnt unload the bikes without the chains coming off. and riding any kind of rough terrain, even by “XC” standards was a nightmare as the bikes were clearly built for flat ground.

With the shortage of bikes lately and all the hype surrounding the new stumpjumper I figured I would give it a try being that my Son has grown into my Salsa Rustler 27. 5 and the chances of me ever riding it again is ZERO.

What a waste of time and money! Here is the truth. The new rear pivot set up creates an unstoppable and very severe Pedal Bob. The height of the lower bracket has to be a mistake. What a crucial oversight! With the flip chip in high position, ultra low profile pedals and an upgraded EVOL 3 position rear shock with maxium psi in FIRM position.

Pedal Bob and Pedal Bite still ruined every ride! Even in the most mello climb over the smallest element you can plan on getting launched. The ultra skinny rims allow for a 2. 4 at max. After riding 2.

6 tires one realizes that 2. 4 and under is NOT a trail tire and can be a real disappointment when riding rough terrain. The rear tire on this bike (on a decent downhill) is very unpredictable. It makes the bike feel like it is too small.

But I also rhode the next size up and it felt exactly the same. The bike is a tank in the weight department and over all is nothing more than a gravel bike with suspension. This bike is NOT a true “trail bike.

” The only people liking this new model are the ones who have never ridden anything else, or dont ride anything past beginner trails. In all seriousness this model of Stumpjumper is dangerous if you plan on riding intermediate or above.

The overall geometry makes it very “front heavy” meaning that you literally have to run the front tire into obstacles instead of being able to place the front wheel where you please with half a pedal like most trail/enduro bikes.

This also may play into why the rear wheel will not track. If you are just cruising, or are blesses with smoothly groomed descents then you may find this bike useable. but if youre pushing beyond a beginner level.

this is NOT the bike you want. Lost some serious $$ on the resale! Got the Trek ex7 and it is NIGHT AND DAY. Will never buy another Specialized!.

Look no further if you are looking for a phenomenal MTB to grow your riding and future mechanical skills. With so many different brands producing trail bikes, and with so many different people telling you to look elsewhere, there is no better platform to build and ride your perfect bike than the Stumpjumper.

The geometry creates a very fun, fast, and surprisingly comfortable ride. Whether you are climbing or descending, this bike can take you wherever you dare to go. Some people have had issues with the components that come with this bike, but I have not had any issues in my first 100 miles.

You shouldn’t have any issues with the brakes, drivetrain, or dropper as long as you ride safely and have some mechanical sympathy. My LBS is a Specialized dealer, and they were incredibly helpful in determining which sized bike would be best for me.

I fell between an S4 and S5, and I had a chance to test ride each size multiple times to see which fit best. If you have the opportunity to test ride, I highly recommend it! I did order my bike from Specialized and had it shipped to my LBS, and the delivery was extremely fast, especially given everything going on with shipping and supply chains.

The bike has been incredible, and Specialized’s service has been just as good.

Size – I want to throw out there that I’m 6’6″ with a 39″ inseam, and I weigh probably 230ish with all my gear on. The S6 is about just an inch short for me, but the bike shop says I can remedy that with a longer dropper post.

Experience – I have ridden my 2022 Stumpjumper alloy (Black) S6 4-5 times now. Most of my riding is on moderate (blue) or difficult (black) trails with a mixture of flow/jumps and techy sections. Since 2009, I have been riding a Specialized Rockhopper base model.

I didn’t realize that it was an XC bike, and I was riding it like it was a class 4 trail bike. I abused the S*** out of that bike until the drivetrain and suspension were shot. Thus, the upgrade. With all that being said, I’m loving my Stumpjumper Alloy.

It is an amazing difference. I will recommend if you have the cash, upgrade to the Stumpjumper Alloy Comp (assuming it becomes available again). For the following reasons: – My cable disk brakes on my rockhopper have less travel in the hand lever to obtain the stopping power you need.

I dare say it might actually have more stopping power. New brakes will be one of the first upgrades. – I wish the drivetrain shifting was a little tighter and smoother. However, it has never slipped or failed to shift.

I’m really nit picking here. Overall, it is a solid bike, and I don’t regret my purchase. I would also recommend it to a friend. Just know the braking will take some getting used to. You can adjust the brake lever position which helps.

Realize that you are getting a full suspension class 4 trail bike for less than $3,000. Great entry level bike.
