Best Game Like Afk Arena (2024 Updated)

If you’re into Magic the Gathering, you’ll love Mage Wars Arena. If you hate Magic the Gathering, you’ll still love Mage Wars Arena. It has the deck building aspects of Magic, but adds a board game grid design, which makes it unique I think.

You decide which cards gets to be included in your Mage’s book of spells before the game begins, and then decide which two cards to play against your adversary every turn. Tons of fun, and the cards themselves are beautiful.

Be warned, this is an intense game in terms of strategy, options, etc. The rule book is quite detailed, and does highlight instructions/recommendations for beginners, but highly recommend you watch Arcane Wonder’s “how to play” video series.

Another option is playing Mage Wars Academy, which is a bit simpler, but every bit as fun.

Mage Wars Arena, is definitely going to appeal to those of use who were (are) Magic the Gathering players. What separates Mage Wars from MTG, is first and foremost. It’s not a collectible card game, it has a physical board, and you technically do not have a deck, but rather a book containing your entire customized selection of cards.

Mage Wars gives you feel of a ccg (collectible card game), but without the need to buy boosters all the time. The depth of this game may seem a bit overwhelming at first, but with a bit of time and practice it is definitely worth it.

Great head-to-head game with a lot of depth. Easy to learn, lots of combs, with an average game length. Beats Warhammer, that’s for sure!

This REIGN the final battle royale game is so different, unique, and fun! It has a ton of pieces to this which I really liked. There are 4 different sets of soldiers, gems, dice, and cards. This game is similar to a puzzle, but not exactly.

You put the pieces together, but they do not connect like a puzzle. That’s because you have to draw a card and remove the side that it says on the card. After that you play the game to get the piece back on before the time runs out.

This was just a little difficult for my 5 and 7 year old. They both have autism and some learning disabilities, however they still had a lot of fun with it. Although they didn’t play exactly as you’re supposed to, they came up with their own way, which was perfect! This game is actually intended for ages 8 and up, but they made it work.

Even though they didn’t quite understand it, they still played this for a good hour! Which honestly is awesome, normally after 10 minutes they’re done. So this got them off the phones and tablets for a bit, which I really liked.

Another thing I want to mention, this is for 2-4 players, and a minimum of 30-45 minutes to play. Overall, this game was a lot of fun, and is definitely something different for the family and kids. We most definitely recommend!!.

Reign The Final Battle Royale is simple an easy to learn even for my 5 year old. It is recommended for 8+ but can definitely be played with younger siblings or friends. It is 2-4 person game but it’s definitely more fun with 4 players.

To play the game you must strategically place your warriors on the board. Will you place them to attack or collect power stones. Each warrior is leveled 1, 2 or 3 making it simple for kids. On each turn you move 3 spaces.

If you land next to opponent you can battle. The winner of the battle is based off the number rolled on the dice plus the level of the warrior. The loser is removed from the board. Keep an eye on the event tracker! The event tracker counts down to remove the zones.

The goal is to try to get your warriors out of that zone before it’s removed or you’ll loose any warriors in that zone. You then flip over the next card to indicate which zone will be removed next. The power stones are used to win battles or move additional spaces.

We love how each time we play it’s different. This game can also be played in about 45 minutes so it’s not too long that kids loose interest. I definitely see this game being played often.

I received a copy for free in exchange for my honest review. think it is a unique, challenging, & complex board game. If you are playing with the maximum amount of players, it can take a very long time.

I really liked the fact that the players get to set up the board the way they want, such as choosing the layout of the gems & picking where your clan members are positioned at the beginning of the game.

It is also fun to put together the puzzle like board game pieces, but they are a bit tricky to place back in their box. The object of the Reign game is to battle other clans. If you enjoy watching Netflix’s Squid Game, you will probably enjoy playing this time sensitive battle royale style game.

Since, Reign’s objective to be the last remaining player is quite similar. I also found it interesting that unlike the typical board game which only allows players to make one move per turn, Reign allows players to perform several different things within their one turn.

As once said by Joshua. Strange game. The only wining move is not to play. The Campaign mode is a lesson in frustration even on the easy setting. I have played Halo games on Legendary and got through the campaigns.

I have also played Gears on Experienced and Insane. Doom on ultraviolence and nightmare. So I know what fun difficulty can be. However the campaign mode on Battlefield 5 is NOT fun at all. I loved the Battlefield 4 campaign mode.

Luckily I got this “free” with game pass. After a two days of constantly dying by one shot of the enemy and them not dying after three shots from me I deleted the game off my hard drive. I cannot recommend this game for the campaign mode.

You know, I’ve played every Battlefield game ever. I’m not saying that to garner credibility, I’m just saying it so you understand I’m a series fan. I often buy Battlefield games on PC, PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.

Even the awful Battlefront games. When EA went full blown Social Justice Warrior about pushing females into the forefront of WW2 combat, there was some fan backlash. Then they told the fans that they were uneducated morons and if they didn’t like it, don’t buy it.

Okay, if you follow the gaming industry at all, you know EA is pretty much awful in every sense of the word. Not because of politics, but because they gobble up game studios and force them to churn out unfinished products with ridiculously aggressive monetization of core content through micro-transactions.

Look at what happened to Bioware with Mass Effect 3. EA took a series that basically sold itself on a large scale, and ruined the credibility of the studio and the IP in one pass. So throw on top of that the blatant disrespect to their fan base in Battlefield, with regards to the SJW controversy, and I decided I had enough.

I passed on Battlefield V, as did so many others. EA felt the sting, and hopefully they’ll learn from it. Now, desperate to sell copies of this game, the price consistently drops to $30. Similar to Mass Effect 3, it’s hard to pass up on a AAA title when they drop the price by half, even when you know the reviews are poor generally.

In a moment of weakness, I picked up the game. I still play Battlefield 4 on a regular basis, and occasionally still play Battlefield 1. I had been craving new Battlefield fun, and I love WW2 games generally.

I just couldn’t resist. I threw the disc in my Xbox One X, hooked up to my Samsung OLED 4k TV with HDR. My face tingled as I anticipated the awe inspiring experience of playing a new Battlefield game in 2019 on the best hardware.

Note: I have a beefy PC as well, but I don’t play in 4k generally due to lower frame rates, and Battlefield has a higher player count on consoles. so I understand consoles aren’t strictly the best, but I feel that the Xbox One X really should be the premium experience for this game.

The game pushes you straight into a cinematic single-player tour of the settings, weapons and vehicles. Similar to the introduction to Battlefield 1, it doubles as a very simple tutorial. You start as a paratrooper dropping into a snow covered rail hard under radiant glow of the Aurora Borealis, and quickly proceed to fight the Germans head-on.

You are transported to a sniper nest in North Africa, where you ambush a German convoy with air support. And then, you find yourself as a German tank commander in the same desert setting, engaging in armored warfare.

Here we are, three minutes into the game. I look to the tanks around me, which are engulfed in blocky pixelated messes that I know are intended to be particle effects from the dust being kickced up by the tracks on these monstrous war machines.

The immersion was completely broken for me, and instant disappointment set in. On PC, these things happen. Developers make games with certain hardware in mind, but there are so many different graphics cards, processors, and audio devices in circulation today.

Updating drivers or changing graphics settings to attain desired performance is a part of PC gaming. With console gaming, developers know exactly what hardware you have. My Xbox One X is the exact same as yours.

Generally, console games have far fewer issues in this regard. That’s why I was shocked to see such a glaring graphical glitch on console, and in the mandatory opening sequence to boot. This game had been out for months, and that glitch still exists.

What a let down. Alas, I soldiered onward and attempted to experience the multiplayer gameplay. I was dropped into a snowy mountain infantry battle, eager to take part in the tense battle at hand. I was able to play for approximately five minutes before I experience a truly game breaking glitch.

I took a path around the mountain to flank a large group of the enemy, and I was met with a like minded player on the opposing team. He chucked a grenade at me, and I was blown to pieces. I then fell under the level and my screen bounced around frantically.

The game did not display the normal statistics on death and did not give me the option to respawn. Pressing the start button did not pull up the menu. I watched from underneath the level as other players continued the fight, while I remained helpless.

I gave it a solid three minutes before forcefully exiting the game, as it was my only option. Frustrated with my “Battlefield experience,” I gave it up for the night and was completely disappointed. The next day, I decided to give it another go.

This time, I played an entire match without a major glitch. I thought maybe I experienced something totally out of the ordinary and moved on. Then the map changed. I fought on a city map this time, and the exact same thing happened to me just minutes into the match.

I continued on for a few days, experiencing the awful 8 bit style particle effects on tanks and occasionally game breaking bugs in multiplayer. At its absolute best, the game is mediocre compared to the other Battlefield games.

Not stellar, not awful. It’s unfinished and unpolished, and this is months after the release. It’s unplayable in this state, and that’s unacceptable at any price. I explained the Battlefield experience to you, so you don’t need to buy this game.

There are far less expensive or time consuming ways to disappoint yourself, if that’s what you’re after. Go for one of those instead.

I’ve logged like 72 hours into this game, most of it online. Great online matches that make the war feel alive and chaotic, especially with a Dolby Atmos sound system. The community is pretty big and nice variety of maps with 64 players.

The campaign was enjoyable too with varied stories and characters of lesser known WW2 campaigns, wish they would’ve kept it in Battlefield 2042.

Second time buying the game, and it is an absolute must have. A lot of the reviews and reviewers will complain that it is repetitive game play, and as true as this may be, it doesn’t take away from the experience.

How is that any different from your CoD’s that get released just about every year? How is that any different from retro gaming? Look at a lot of the games on SNES and Genesis, most of them are extremely repetitive yet still yield a loyal following.

Having said that, the graphics, story, and game play are outstanding. If you have an xbox one, this game needs to be in your library. The graphics are so phenomenal, sometimes you have to stop and look to appreciate all the work of the programmers.

The story is one of betrayal, and is sure to keep you interested till the end. Again, while the gameplay can get repetitive, it’s still satisfying throughout. As far as replay value goes, it’s one of those that’s good to crack out if you’ve got a weekend to kill.

This is my only complaint is that even with the DLC and multiplayer, there’s not that same replayability you get with other games. However, that does not mean this isn’t a good game.

It was something different. I read very mixed reviews on this one and I am mainly a FPS player. I play COD Ghost and BLOPS2 non stop mixed with TF and BF4. The campaign is very attractive as you would hope for on the ONE.

The story has long cut scenese which may be tiresome if you are not into that. However if you enjoyed the ubisoft assassin’s creed this game will be fun and easy for you with similar frustrations. I jumped straight in on veteran and the parry block style of game play is good.

The only infuriating thing is the game mechanics are messed up around spear throwing. It is still worth playing enjoyable enough campaign good achivements and the multiplaye.

It was entertaining for a play through. Shouldn’t take more than 7 hours. Didn’t even try hard and got 630 achievement points. Not a terrible story, not a terrible game. Neither are great. Graphics are pretty at times.

Not the visual masterpiece that was shown on overpowered PC’s when they demoed it at E3 though. Oh, and despite what anyone says, its a QTE gang bang. The entire time. And I think I counted 7 unique enemies.

Great game! I enjoyed the team death match maps the most and the 2d art style and jetpack and grapple hooks gameplay are great. Highly recommended if you like previous worm games.

Worms has always been a favorite of mine. Happy to play their latest addition.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is, well, the ultimate Smash Bros. game. It has the most characters, the most stages, and the most items of any entry, and it has never been easier to pick up and play. Even if you are terrible at traditional fighting games, you can play Smash Bros.

While there are some things missing that really lit up previous entries (such as Smash Run mode and on-screen character outlines during battles, both of which were in the 3DS edition), you would be content if this was the only Smash Bros.

game you ever played. However, one persistent issue is the online mode’s stability and usability; if you do not have a stable Internet connection with a LAN cable directly connected to your Switch, you may get dropped from matches frequently.

In addition, not being able to swap characters between matches without completely exiting the online mode first is very annoying. Finally, the “spirits” system that replaces the trophy system from the previous iterations feels forgettable; 2D stickers are nowhere near as memorable as explorable 3D models with lengthy details about the subject of the 3D model.

Overall, you will not regret your purchase of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but the online issues keep it from being a five-star recommendation. along with leaving out my boy Geno. How could you, Sakurai?.

I’ve been a big fan of Super Smash Bros since the original on N64 blew the doors off fighting games style. Countless hours, days and sleepless nights playing tournaments with friends in living rooms and strangers at tournaments alike.

This laziest edition of the esteemed series might just be the best yet. Beyond the obvious online abilities and being able to fight people from all over the globe, the graphics are insaneeee and the amount of characters both Nintendo brand and donated icons from other game developer companies is no in the hundreds.

The solo fight option is also entertaining, although Super Smash Bros has always been the type of game meant to bring people together wether physically or digital. Either way, highly recommended!.

The concept is really fun, where you can duel using most characters in the Nintendo universe, each having their own unique abilities and powers. It was difficult for me to master the controls, though, especially using the standard joy-cons in handheld mode.

I ordered a Switch Pro controller hoping this will improve my chances—I think the joy-con sticks may be just a bit too sensitive for this game. Also, I’m now at a point in the game where I feel a bit stuck—there is no way for me to progress without winning the next-higher difficulty battle, which I have failed after many tries, and no way for me to go back and improve my skills with lower difficulty battles.

Perhaps platform fighting games are just not my thing. If you’re like me, it may take you some time and effort to advance in this game.

This is a solid game, good graphics, great controls, and fun gameplay. This game is missing a lot tho. Even playing with the sliders the games you play your goalie can’t make a save. A 70-80% save% is crazy even with top goalies.

Took out the ability to get fired or switch teams in GM mode. I enjoy taking over a bad team making it good and go and find another bad team to fix, makes a good challenge in GM mode. Can’t replace nhl teams with other league teams in GM mode.

I like making basically my own league, getting a mix of European league teams and replacing NHL teams with them. The commentary is below average, it’s so repetitive and so many players names are even avaliable to be called out.

The commentary cut scene before each game showing the stadium and city is very low quality, don’t seem like it’s in HD. In GM mode finding free agent players over an 82-83 is nearly impossible. Yes huge names aren’t always available irl but you can’t find a 2nd ( sometimes even 3rd)line player unless you trade.

I have still had a lot of fun on this game but it’s lacking so much from previous versions, only pick it up if you can get it on the cheap.

The game arrives in perfect condition as described. Very easy to contact answered my questions right away. I would recommend this seller and can not wait to buy from they in the future. The video is amazing to play the graphics are amazing you can see other mascots.

The video has great content easy to hear and watch. You an create your own player. I am very picky about the games I play- by far this is the best hockey game I have ever played.

This is a pretty great game aside from a few glitches within the games programming regarding certain goals. Overall I love the new cover WITHOUT PATRICK KANE. Don’t need him on there at all. Love the My Pro mode although it’s hard work leveling up your player to become the best.

The controls are easy enough to pick up if you’re not a huge gamer. I don’t play online, but you can get player packs with cards and stuff on here. Of course you have to purchase, but it would be nice if you got more free ones.

It is the board game! haha. Complete in all it’s glory and it’s a lot of glory! I didn’t know what I getting myself into as I’ve never played a boardgame like this or even know what it was about, but the hype got to me.

Did some research and felt like I knew what I was getting myself into but it can be a lot to take in. If you don’t know what this game is about I would suggest a little research. If still intrigue, and I hope you will be, then take the plunge.

FYI: They have released an “extra” that maybe purchased separately, which are removable stickers that you use as you play. Highly recommend if you plan on replaying. I believe these might be for the 1st and 2nd edition of the game.

There’s so much game that the removable stickers might not be necessary, unless you absolutely want to restart everything, but that will be your decision.

Excellent game for someone who consistently wants to get play an ongoing campaign of a game, either solo (you can play alone) or with a group of friends (up to four can play). The primary mechanic of the game produces very strategic gameplay- basically on your turn you can play two cards, which have an action on the top half and an action on the bottom half (movement, attacks, disabling traps, healing, etc).

and you are only allowed to use the top of one card, and the bottom of the other card, which means you are always having to pick carefully since every choice means you’re not getting to choose something else.

Careful choices will yield success as you battle your different hero character types through a variety of dungeons, built out of a pile of interlocking map parts. The bigger draw about what makes Gloomhaven special is the campaign.

Each game you play is only one battle in the ongoing, overarching game, as you gain money and level up your characters over the course of multiple sessions of gameplay, and eventually achieve character goals that allow you to retire your current character and unlock new material for the game.

Aside from sealed envelopes with mystery content, there are six starter classes to choose from but another TEN that are sealed in boxes. I do not know what they all are, as we have not played enough yet to unlock more than one, but we found it exciting to experience having a game where I don’t know all the surprises it has to unveil yet.

So if you enjoy dungeon crawl or strategy games, and want to play it with a group for a long time, enjoy some light story elements stringing together your dungeon adventures, and slowly but surely unlock secret boxes and envelopes with more content, this is a solid recommendation.

Caveats- I wouldn’t recommend this for anyone who is looking for a casual party game with pals that they might pull out every couple of months, due to the learning curve of the game and the ongoing campaign nature.

I found it best to run a solo session myself to get at least somewhat familiar with the rules before I played with my friends, rather than get stressed out trying to play the game straight out of the box with the rulebook.

This is the internet, so if you want more information use google, but try to avoid spoiling yourself. I find the Gloomhaven community is pretty good overall about keeping things vague (ie referring to unlockable classes by their symbol rather than their names, ie “three spears”, “sun”, or “two-minis” class, to avoid spoiling).

It’s hard to summarize a review for this game, because some things are really great and others are absolutely terrible. GOOD – The general concept of a highly modular dungeon crawler game with a Legacy-style persistent world and a novel style of tactical combat is a good one – Beautiful artwork – With certain reservations, the card-based combat system is both very fresh and very fun – The amount of content included is mind-blowing.

I’ve heard some groups got over 200 hours of play out of the base set, and I believe them BAD – My friends and I like board games, but anyone who is not an ultra-hardcore gamer need not apply here. The rules are very, very, very complex and detailed.

Unless you watch like a hawk you can regularly expect to forget to draw cards or apply effects or alter your damage calculations when you are technically supposed to, which makes it very frustrating if you want to play correctly and not cheat.

– It takes FOREVER to set up, especially the first few rounds. Block off at least an hour for your first game to do this. Overall the ratio of time spent setting up/taking down to playing is probably the worst I’ve ever seen.

– The theme is meh. Pretty generic fantasy stuff, with a Warcraft-style option to be “good guys” or “bad guys” even though both plot threads play out pretty similarly. Because you can pick your characters, it means your characters don’t actually get to grow or evolve (except for their stats) or have arcs of their own, as far as the game’s plot is concerned you will always be just a gang of generic mercenaries with a “Reputation” score and not much else.

– The box weighs like 25 lbs and is a pain to carry around. – Personally I thought the combat gets kind of same-y and static over time, especially since you only get one new card per level (and it takes several sessions to level up).

You’re basically using the same set of ~10 cards over and over and over. I respect what the designers were going for, but I think they went too far on the side of adding mechanics and complexity to the point that the game became unwieldy and flawed.

They almost should’ve made it a computer game if they wanted this level of detail. But if you are willing to put in a lot of time dealing with the rules, I could see a group of hardcore gamers having fun with this one.

Fifa 18 game has loads of bugs that arnt getting sorted out! Could be good if they do. My FUT squad has a rating of 81 (4. 5 stars) and a chemistry of 92 but yet for me to start the next single player season in FUT on mid-high difficulty rating season I need a rating of 70-75 (3.

5 stars)?? WTF. Its not letting progress unless I forfeit this season and go for a lower rating season! I also finished a game on Squad Battles and got no “Winning Match Results Opts, Skill Bonus Opts, no Goals Opts, no Difficulty Bonus Opts”? But yet I won the game by 5 goals, loads of skill on a medium to high world class difficulty.

(Just take a look at my two pictures i’ve put with this) Also playing the Alex Hunter the journey, its not putting on traits i’ve gained and put in? They seem to be their the next time I play a game and do my stuff afterwards.

Great concept though love it. Playing Career mode, you can’t even change and choose a different formation for your team. I’m playing as a player and not the manager so I’m not sure if you are able to build your own team if you play as manager so I can’t comment on that, I hope you can.

I haven’t bought any footy games for many years since Pro Evo 5, and since fifa 2006 they changed the games game engine making the game play weird ever since. Its only this version seems a little different.

Thats why I bought it after playing the demo on pc. Also its really annoying me that in FUT I’ll play first half and all my team is in good form. The other team is not too differ to mine, then as soon as the second half starts my team are all slow even though all of my teams fitness levels are all still above 60-65% and the opponents seem faster and much better than the first half, so sometimes im getting beat because of this!!!.

I am a long time fan of FIFA, since FIFA ’98 on PC. but after FIFA ’08 I didn’t play that much. This is the first I’ve really played in a long time, and the first in a gaming console. The game-play is good, as always, although the celebration part after the goals could be more divers.

The menu is also not that user friendly. it takes some serious getting used to it. The Manager Campaign mode is nice, although I’m missing some easy to access statistics (goals, cards, etc. ) I’m sure they are in, but not as easy to find.

I like the training sessions at the beginning of the match. Helps to learn the controls (useful to me since I’m new on console). All-in-all it is a fun game to play, and really time consuming once you really get into it!.

I really like FIFA 18. However there are a few things I would change. It seems almost impossible to get to the top players without spending lots of money. The highest ranked player I’ve been able to buy is 84 overall.

If you want a Ronaldo or Suarez you’ll need millions, after 30+ games I have 10,000 max. I refuse to spend thousands real of dollars or pounds to get better player from EA player packs. Other wise it may take a year of buying and selling to work up through the ranks.

The players images are too small, I can see what’s happening to determine where the ball is or what position the players are in, especially when in a bunch of players. How ever I do like the game overall and will continue to play unless as I move into the higher ranks I won’t be able to compete with the 97 players with my 84 players.

Bought for 23 year old son as early Christmas present. Have put away. He played it at a friends. Loved it. He said it would be a good family game. I have older sons so can’t comment younger children.

Great game! Played with colleagues and friends so far and everyone has enjoyed themselves. The player count recommendation of 2-12 could probably be more realistically changed to 4-12 (or even higher, there’s no mechanical reason why you couldn’t play with more than 12 people).

This game is a great conversation starter to play casually as part of a gathering with drinks/ snacks/ etc. Could be a nice way to start or end a game night, or an ice breaker at a work social event.

The component quality is also very nice (even though there are very few components in the box, they enhance the experience greatly). Highly recommended!.

This is such a fun game I bought two – everyone who loves board type games should get this one! It isn’t really a board game but a great party game like catch phrase or charades. Each player pulls a card and everyone engages in a response.

Can’t spoil it for you but everyone can plan and it is big fun. I highly recommend it!.

This game is initially pretty frustrating but as my son noted that it will improve my middle-aged coordination! It is a rolling ball / balance game- like those old wooden boxes with knobs in which a marble rolls around a maze- but on acid! I am trying an alternative tilt controller which helps a little versus the normal PS2 joystick, but more experienced gamers may not have a problem.

In case your wondering there is no gore or blood even in the worst case- definitely okay for any age or religious persuasion. I haven’t gotten very far- balls fall off and I ‘die’ (not my real ones the ones in the game!) but I can see improvement and get a little farther each time.

As martin_macdonald mentioned in another review there are options for challenging others (I’d be embarassed!) and designing your own levels which are nice additions. This game is definitely one to keep, work on, and enjoy!.

I think that “Mojo!” is a very challenging and fun puzzle game. The game itself is very enjoyable, but you can’t attach a name with any save file, which gets confusing and sometimes annoying when loading.

For a 2003 game, the graphics are high quality and realistic, but as of 2010 standards, the graphics don’t have that special something. This game will keep you entertained for hours on end, no matter what your age.

If you ever get bored of the main game, you can design your own level, or invite your friends to play in multiplayer mode. I would recommend this game to anyone who has ever liked puzzles, or is up to a challenge.

I don’t know much about this game. It was a gift for my nephew and I can assure you that he loves it. We were able to play 2-player split screen without issues. Good times

It’s a great collection comes with the first game and second part in one cartridge. A great game when u can relax and play thru it really fun and sometimes challenging

Great stealth game in the Tenchu tradition. Decent length. Viibrant graphics and atmospheric audio and gameplay. Responsive controls. But beware it isn’t for the casual player unless you are happy to only play less than the full game.

the boss fights are very difficult, with no cheats or bypasses via lowered difficulty. I couldn’t finish it and twice I had more than 50 instant deaths before I managed to get past earlier bosses.

I stumbled across this game on PSN It is an awesome game, its a beautifully drawn game, it’s very addictive also. Stealth is the aim of the game, once you play this you’ll play it over and over as each level has 3 level settings so each is a challenge,.

This game is absolutely gorgeous and it made me sob my eyes out lol. The soundtrack is chillingly beautiful.

Ok, so this game is indeed one of the finer games on the PSP, and with the slew of unlockables, story, different arcade modes, and multi-player, it’s a game that one could happily spend hours upon hours playing.

The battle system is a little odd, as it’s not a typical fighter. More of a action game, with fighting and RPG elements tied all together very nicely. It takes a few minutes to understand how everything works together in battle, but once you get the hang of it, you just keep getting better and better, and the battles become more and more enjoyable.

The story mode, admittedly, is actually kind of weak, for a Final Fantasy title (at least, every Final Fantasy before IX had a good story). I enjoy the story, personally, but it’s not full of surprises, or played out in the greatest fashion.

It’s decent, but it could have been so much better. That, and the voice acting for some characters is a bit sad. It’s almost embarrassing to listen to sometimes. But there are quite a few characters whose American voice overs were done perfectly (Sephiroth and Kefka come to mind).

The customization of your characters is un-effing-believable. None of the equipment you use will change your character’s appearance, but the amount of weapons, accessories, equipment, summons and abilities you can learn, gain, create and buy are very nearly endless.

Especially with the multi-player items you get just from battling. In that same field, there’s a calendar system in the game that will give you rewards based on what day you play. By unlocking more bonuses through the catalog in the game, you can make these days occur more often, and yield much greater rewards.

The multi-player is 50/50, in my opinion. Yes, it’s very, very nice, it works really well, and the rewards can be unique, but it’s only Ad-hoc. There’s no online multi-player, which is really disappointing.

While my cousin and I played, we experienced a bit of lag, but it was hardly noticeable at all. Very slight, and it didn’t ruin the battle, or the experience. It’s quite a bit of fun, so if you have or get this game, find someone else who does too.

The ability to handicap the level so it’s an even match makes it much nicer as well, so that you can fight someone brand new to the game, without them having to spend hours leveling up first. Arcade mode was a unique addition to the American version, and while it’s a lot of fun, it’s straight forward, with pre-set characters.

No customization here. So, it gets old pretty quickly. However, since you initially only have access to the heroes (you have to unlock the villains via the catalog), this is a good place to go to get some practice with all the characters, as all 20 of the main characters are available to play right off the bat in Arcade mode.

Unlockables in this game seem endless. When you unlock new characters or items, more appear to unlock. As you progress through the game, you get random items and rewards, and more items appear for you to unlock through the catalog.

The museum allows you to see all sorts of Final Fantasy info on characters, and, once you unlock it, the replay editor is here, allowing you to go back over battles you’ve fought and saved the replay for, and allows you to edit them, save them to AVI, and import them to your computer.

Over all, this game is an amazing package, and the only things that really hold it back from perfection are a few poor choices.

The game is the Japanese arcade version. The story is not there. You hv to watch it via anime drawing. The gameplay is made for online which means the A is broken. They didn’t fix it at all either. The worst part is they chopped the game up putting less than half on the disc requiring u to buy the rest of the game for 50 on sale.

You will never get the whole game unless u pay the price for the dlc. If u buy the game it is designed to frustrate you into buying the rest for a hefty fee. This made me stop buying square Enix games!.

This is an interesting game as it puts a spin on the usual style of Final Fantasy by making it a 3d fighting game yet it still retains the usual depth of customization and other Final Fantasy goodness.

One of the best things for me was the fact that it is extremely long. Thanks to trying to complete each character’s story I have barely brushed the surface of this game. The combat system is interesting and requires skill and planning with less button mashing than other fighting games such as Tekken.

This with the extensive customizing of characters allows for a greater control over your characters style of play. Only two downsides to this game for me and they don’t outweigh the pure awesomeness of this game.

First the developers have put a lot of cut scenes in allowing for an in-depth storyline. This unfortunately means slightly less quality in this area of the game. The other is it is hard to understand some of the customizing options.

I suggest read all of the manuals in the games about accessories and just in general if you have not played before. Once you have mastered this the game makes more sense and it will help gameplay much more.

All in all I thoroughly recommend it to most people especially those who have enjoyed the Final Fantasy series and are looking for a bit more real time combat in their game. It is certainly something more for those who play other fighting games.

Most RPG settings have the woodlands somewhere in them, so this map is easy to throw into any game. Want a simple encounter while the party is traveling down a straight forested path? One of the sides has that.

A simple straight woodland path. The other side has a more interesting layout. One corner has an evil looking alter, the opposing has a tree larger than the rest. Another corner has a small waterway, and the last a pit with bones.

All these locations are connected by winding forest paths. This region works well for a small set of encounters – maybe two or three combats. However you decide to use the map, it represents the RPG staple woodlands quite well.

My players would never proclaim artistry as my strong-suit when it comes to running games, so I’ve been happy to gradually build up a small collection of Pathfinder Flip-Mats. Ship is my newest purchase, and on the main side it features four decks of a fairly large (110 feet long) vessel armed with six cannons and featuring plenty of cargo space, while the the flip side is blank but for a watery background.

I’m not sure if the ship should be classified as a light warship or a heavily-armed merchant ship, but the flexibility is an asset for GMs. The lowest deck (the hold) is well-detailed with barrels, crates, bags, oil lamps, and even a straw-filled pen for animals.

The next deck (moving from low to high) features the six cannons (with little piles of cannonballs!), sleeping quarters at the bow with six bunks, and an officer’s cabin in the stern with a desk, chairs, a bookcase, and more.

It’s all drawn with great detail, with my favourite touch being the “grid” of light coming from the hatches above. The main deck has a storage room in the bow and another officer’s cabin in the stern.

I really like the added touch of a rowboat as well. I think it would have been better to have a galley, a brig, or something else instead of two officer’s cabins that are essentially the same. I also found it difficult to distinguish the stairs going up from the stairs going down.

The fourth and final deck is a bit odd as the center part is actually the same as the center part of the main deck, but the bow and stern are the raised levels above the storage room and officer’s quarters, respectively.

When I used this flip-mat during a recent session, it was hard to decide on which of the two upper decks to have the tokens on, since they’re quite literally showing the same place. Still, despite the minor confusion of the stairs and the same/different decks, having the Ship flip-mat was a major improvement on what I could do on my own with a marker.

The other side, with the water background, seems dull but I actually really like it. It’s not just a flat blue, but instead has different lighting and “texture” effects so it looks like the surface of the ocean.

I’ll definitely use it anytime I have an encounter on a lake, ocean, or even wide river. So, quibbles aside, this is one of the best of the Pathfinder Flip-Mats I’ve purchased. Admittedly, I haven’t had a lot of water encounters in the games I’ve run, but when I do, this will come out of storage.

The first side provides what I think is the most useful of the various tavern maps, although I would call this an inn since it also has rooms for sleeping. It’s generic enough that you could use it pretty much anywhere.

It has a good sized main room with plenty of tables and chairs that provide some interesting tactical obstacles without excessively gumming things up. The backrooms provide additional chokepoints or areas where defenders can retreat.

The second level of the tavern is conveniently located on the same side, so your battle can be raging on both levels simultaneously. Even with both levels on one side, there’s plenty of room for combat.

Now, the not-so-impressive aspect is the second side. Providing a completely generic, open, grassy battle map is, to my mind, a complete cop out. It has absolutely nothing to do with the inn and shows a real lack of imagination.

How about providing additional levels to the inn, such as an attic or cellar? Perhaps stables for travelers? No, just a grassy field. As much as I like the first side, I can only give this 4 stars due to the complete cop out on the second side.

Still, given how good the tavern is, I imagine it will get a lot of use.

This game is a win on so many levels for young kids and families! It fosters creativity, problem solving, spatial orientation, planning and preparation and even simple math and reading. We have 4 sons ages 2-13.

The toddler isn’t quite old enough yet but still likes to see what his big brothers build. The older ones play in creative mode to experiment with various builds, as well as survival mode which challenges them to use resources to overcome obstacles.

Mom and Dad even get in on the action as the screen can be split with multiple players, and Dad at our house is an IT professional who set up a private server that allows us to play across platforms via emulators.

We use Minecraft as a reward for chores and good behavior and do a lot of family “missions” and crafting time after dinner. Of course, kids are going to love the March that comes with the fandom (t-shirts, toys, Lego sets) but it’s a unique and creative fandom, so we grownups don’t mind.

The updates released periodically always have something new to look forward to. I could take off half a star maybe for the periodic glitches associated with them, but these issues are relatively minor and to be expected with any similar product.

This game is totally worth the investment if you’re looking for family-friendly fun, or a digital creative outlet full of challenges and go-at-your-own-pace feel.

I honestly hated Minecraft when I first tried it a few years ago on Xbox. It felt tedious, confusing, and hard to discern what was what due to the pixelated graphics. Decided to give it another go on the Switch and now I can’t put it down.

The graphics are way better on the Switch, and I feel like the overall gameplay experience is much better than it was on Xbox. I wanted to play solo, and was very pleased to be able to do so w/o making a Microsoft account.

It loads up impressively fast and is ideal for those who love creating. If you don’t love combat, I recommend the Survival Mode set on Easy. That way you have the monsters (who give important loot) but you aren’t killed every two seconds.

Also, this is a game for those who like some grind. I’m currently building a big fort and it’s taking an age, but I love it. There are a zillion options and while the in game help is limited, there is an ocean of info online.

The game does have a text only help manual you can read up on, but your brain hits overload pretty quick. So this is a learn as you go game. You learn something, use that tool/concept for a while, then look up something new and add that in.

Loads of fun, great for chilling out, yet really gives you that satisfying sense of productivity as you see your buildings forming and your processes becoming more efficient. There are epic challenges for those who want that, and there’s no rule that you have to stay put.

It’s an open world, so you can explore forever without bothering with a home base. Or you can build your own ultimate home base which you later transport villagers into. Or you can just join one of the established villages that exist in the world.

The other NPCs don’t dialogue with you, they just make noises, offer you trades, show some degree of emotion, and/or try to kill you, lol. It’s a huge learning curve, but there are plenty of rewards along the way so you can take your time.

If you don’t like the place you start in, find a better spot or just launch a new world. Each world is randomly generated. I find the detail easier to see with the Switch in my hands as opposed to squinting at a TV monitor.

And if like me, you have no sense of direction, then be sure to make yourself some paths and landmarks so you can keep track of how to get home! But worst case scenario, you can always rebuild from scratch because it’s such an open, open world.

I am not the one who can give an honest review, but my children can. They love everything Minecraft. They are obsessed with this game and take it very seriously. As a parent, I have to say I approve.

My children have learned a lot. It forced my youngest to read because she had to read the words on the screen to get her supplies together. So her reading skills grew drastically from there. My oldest son uses math skills while playing and is in the 5th grade and they are putting him in a 6th grade math class.

I hate playing that game with a passion, but it really benefits kids! It is costing me money though!.

I really have enjoyed family game nights with the Ker Plunk Game – Don’t Let The Marbles Fall. It is such an honest fun game, especially with the kids. They make everything more exciting. We have had many countless laugh around the dinner table playing.

It is actually a very durable, high quality game to be playing with the kids. Let me tell you my kids can destroy something fast, but the Ker Plunk Game – Don’t Let The Marbles Fall has lasted longer than any other family game night game has.

We buy many. It truly is a fun game night game i highly recommend to every family to play with theirs.

it’s really fun to play. My wife really loved when we played ker plunk on our honemoon. mmmmmmm. really nice. When you pull out a straw it goes KERPLUUUUUNK and that’s where the name comes from I think, but anyway it’s a really good game.

If you were planning on playing God Of War: Ragnarok, just play this instead it’s a good time for all the family, even your edgy teenager with a ring in his nose’s gonna love that stuff. TEN STARS **********.

I liked this game much more as a kid than other similar ones because it’s much more straightforward, and relies less on randomness. You’re actually able to tactically choose between which straws you want to pick, so that you drop the least amount of marbles, and of course so you can set up your opponents to drop more.

It’s even entirely self contained for transport. An issue is that it is a lot louder even compared to similar games, with the marbles hitting the plastic plate.

From start to finish, this was an interesting project for our first week of homeschool. Set-up was very basic, fast, and the instructions were thorough. As easy as: Download the app, create an account, scan the QR code.

Each pack comes with 2 QR codes, so you can download your games onto two different devices. Our daughter is 6 and had some trouble understanding the “scale” of things – ie: make your avatar SMALL, keep the red “avoid this” items in areas that your avatar can maneuver around, etc.

She drew her first game, and I think we were both amazed at: 1) how quickly the little game uploaded 2) how EXACT to picture the game was. The technology in this is quite impressive even from an adults standpoint.

I personally liked the editor, so we could remove some of her bigger “reds” and still play the game. Once you get your first couple of games down, you can really start to be creative with the next games.

The only cons I could find: – the paper in the booklets are thin. If you have a heavy-handed kid (like me), put something under each sheet so the marker doesn’t bleed through onto the next. – Go a little more in-depth with the instructions on what the purple marker does.

I was able to figure it out by playing around, but a 10 year old likely wouldn’t understand just by glancing through the pamphlet. Overall though, we have really enjoyed this.

I’d like to talk about several key points the game hit, or doesn’t hit. and I’ll go through them all one at a time. Let’s get started. first off. VALUE AND REPLAY: The game hits these points for me. first off, the game weighs over a whopping 15 lbs.

that’s a tone of components and content. The component quality is great, with 12 total adventure books (11 core and 1 side quest), 36 pre-generated characters (and the ability to generate many more custom characters), 129 various armor, skill, scroll, trait and weapon cards, and many more enemy, discovery, title, modifier, rare, and familiar cards to guarantee a different adventure each time.

This brings me to the replay aspect. this aspect is very high, as I’m finding there are many choices one can make during the game, and that these choices will open some avenues while closing others. this alone will make you want to maybe play through this game more than once, trying different directions each time.

While the game is more pricey, I feel the content and popularity of this game will give you the ability to trade or sell it, if that’s something you typically do with your games. CHOICES YOU’LL MAKE: The game does an excellent job of giving the players 2-3 choices for how they want to progress at several points in the game.

In addition, it does a good job of avoiding bias on the part of morality, allowing players to both choose to help or hinder other non-player characters in the game as they are encountered. As always in life.

choices do have consequences. but the learning of these is both entertaining and fun. GAME DIFFICULTY: While I did find some aspects of the game more difficult, I think this will be dependent on the players involved in each quest more than anything.

For me, I felt the ideal number of characters was 2, whereas when we had 4 characters the game felt rather easy and when I tried the game with just 1 character, it just felt like I couldn’t pass any challenges at all.

It also feels like the game gets progressively easier as you move through the quests, especially when you find yourself constantly succeeding in the challenges, as it seems to further build your character’s ability to pass challenges even easier.

for me, this was a bit of a con, but you can find many forums suggesting “House rules” to accommodate your difficulty requirements for the game. TESTS BEING A PUZZLE: For me, this was one of the main reasons I wanted to get this game.

I don’t know how most people feel about their ability to roll the dice they need in games, but for me, it never seems to go my way. I truly loved the idea that I could play cards to manipulate the dice into being the success I needed to pass a test.

I also liked the idea that I could choose a direction based on my ability to be more, or less successful at passing a test, which allowed me to again adjust the difficulty of the game on the fly (essentially going after that more difficult test because I wanted to see if I could puzzle my way to success).

Again. I found this best in a 2 character game. SOLO PLAY: This game can be played as a solo game. which for me is a huge plus. This means that it is not just another game that I bought that is sitting and collecting dust until I can get another person or a gaming group together to play the game.

it is ready to be played by just me the minute I get it. For many a gamer these days, this is of increasing importance as we spend money to acquire new and interesting games to play them. NARRATIVE/STORY: This is one of the best story adventure games I have ever played.

It felt like I was part of a movie, acting out a story where I could choose the direction of the script and how I wanted to proceed, while not exactly knowing how it was all going to turn out in the end because of the random aspect of the tests.

it felt very thematic. The choice of direction in the story also left enough of the complete story unplayed to allow for replayability, as I mentioned earlier. The writing is incredible and brings the non-player characters to life.

For me, this was a Home-Run!.

A story-driven game seemed like a good idea. The production is well done. Lots of character choices/abilities. However, in the end, it is simply a programmed walkthrough with dice rolling. My main issue with the game is there are no “real” choices.

All locations are similar, as they must move the story forward; so it doesn’t really matter what choices you make. As you complete each location, you will inevitably come back to clear all locations.

Combat is a real bummer. Each opponent has several dice options you need to roll to beat it. You’ll have to match a certain color with a number. When your rolls don’t match those needed, you use cards to modify your rolls until they do match.

Characters are really not important, as each person is forced to play cards trying to modify the dice to reach the goal. If you reach it, you win. If not, you accumulate some damage and try again. repeat.

Getting knocked-out means you take too much damage, which happens only because of either a bad roll, or you don’t have certain cards. Since the criteria for winning the fight is known from the beginning, all you’re doing is seeing if you have the cards to modify your rolls.

that’s it. That’s the whole “game”. modifying rolls with cards. But not in interesting ways, because your choices are so limited, you can and will only choose those cards that can work. There’s no thinking required.

Leveling up is also bad. As you spend points, you discover there is only 1 way to level up that makes sense. choose options that let you roll the most dice. The abilities or characters are not important, just how many times can you roll, or re-roll, to match the objective.

Example: to beat an orc, you must roll 1 red die and get a 2, a black die and get a 4 and a red or black die and get a 5. Stats let you roll certain color dice, but since you must roll red or black dice, you just use those stats.

You roll. Red = 3, Black = 4 and Black =4. Now you look through your cards to see if you can modify the Red to a 2 and one of the blacks to a 5. If you can, you win. That’s the game. Very disappointed with this one.

Roll player adventures is dungeon and dragons in a box. Or, if you prefer, a choose your own adventure in a box. Either way this is a engaging and fun to play game that allows you to manipulate dice to pass skill checks while you explore the roll player world in which it is set.

The story here is well done along with the writing. Very family friendly adventures straight out of the box. And have I mentioned each scenario evokes the old D&D scenario covers from the D&D in the 1970s? I recommend this game especially if you like narrative driven games.
