20 Best Frozen Meals At Kroger (2023 Updated)

I saw someone at work preparing one of your Cafe Steamers and was I ever excited. Some people have cast iron stomachs. Mine is more like porcelain china and I recently had surgery to remove a tumor in my small intestines so I have to be even more careful.

Finally a frozen dinner that separates the sauce with all the spices from the meat and vegetables. I’ve had two of your dinners so far and they’ve been wonderful. I can heat them in the microwave without them touching the sauce and then add what little flavoring I can have to the meat and vegetables and I can have a quick meal.

I know that was not your intention when you prepared these with the sauce separate from the meal but it is an added blessing for me and I am so grateful. I can’t wait to try out some of the others as well.

As a widowed senior citizen living on a limited income, I am always on the lookout for a delicious, affordable, easy to fix microwave dinner that is healthy too. Since I love chicken, I had tried your Grilled Chicken Marinara meals several years ago but finally stopped buying them since the chicken pieces were consistently such poor quality.

However, my local grocery store recently had a great sale on Healthy Choice meals, so I decided to give the marinara chicken a try again. Unfortunately, nothing had changed – same old disgusting chunks of formed chicken goo, with perhaps a couple random pieces of real chicken meat thrown in here and there.

When I pick out and toss all the mystery meat pieces and just eat the pasta marinara and broccoli, the meal isn’t bad at all, so that is why I am even giving it two stars.

I just started purchasing a variety of Healthy Choice meals since I’m being more mindful of what I eat. I like scanning the bar codes to see how many points they’re worth. To my amazement, this meal was absolutely delicious! I’m not a huge fan of pesto (tried it just once before), but I must say that it was very flavorful, and not peppery at all like some of the other reviews state.

The pasta was perfect, along with the veggies and chicken. I added a handful of grilled breast chunks to make it more filling. This is my absolute favorite now, and I’ll be definitely buying more.

I have bought this meal for years and have always enjoyed it, but this time it completely missed quality control. I bought two last night and on both the apple dessert completely overflowed into the fish and rice, making the rice and fish very thick, gooey, sweet and mushy.

This is something that occurred in the factory during the manufacturing process and not at the grocery store. I’ve never eaten the dessert in this meal because I don’t like anything overly sweet and to have it overflowing that way was just disgusting.

On the other meal, once again the dessert was overflowing-the quantity that was served was to such an extreme (there was easily enough for several meals)-AND quality control forgot the broccoli. So in this meal we winded up with mushy fish apple rice all mixed together with two heaping servings of the apple dessert.

I’m sure prisoners in Huntsville had a better dinner last night. Healthy Choice, why serve a wet and runny dessert in a frozen dinner if you run the risk of it compromising the quality of the entree?.

This might sound weird, but I used to love this meal back in the 90s. It actually tasted fresher and had more flavor. The fish had more lemon and pepper flavor, the breading wasn’t chalky and cardboard tasting, the broccoli wasn’t a soup and was actually crisp, the ‘apple raisin compote’ they had back then, if I recall correctly, wasn’t apple soup with artificial caramel flavor, and even the rice was more tender with more bite from the bell peppers.

There was more texture and flavor to all the ingredients. I bought some of these meals recently and was very disappointed. I even tried it a few years back and it was better than it is now, but still not as good as many years ago – this recent version is the worst I’ve tried.

I think Healthy Choice needs to focus on more natural, healthier ingredients and maybe redesign their packages like certain competitors have done. The taste/ingredients do not justify the price you pay for Healthy Choice lately.

I don’t know if that’s because they’re having trouble keeping up with some of the competition or not, but I do notice that most stores to not stock many HC meals and I have difficulty finding this particular one.

I won’t be buying it again until I notice a change. Sorry, HC, the competition is just much better lately.

This little dinner was pretty good being that my kitchen was being renovated so I didn’t have access to a stove at the time. It is lemon pepper crusted fish, rice and veggies, broccoli, and an apple dessert.

To improve it I would like bigger apple slices and more cinnamon. The apples were cut smaller than pictured on the box and needed more cinnamon, sugar. It was more of a tart taste. Also, I wish the fish was golden brown as on the box.

Maybe if cooked alone in oven it would be. Overall, for a microwave dinner, it was fine.

I saw this in the store and was excited that there were healthy options for low-carb keto type diets. I started opening the box I’m looking for the cooking instructions and there were no oven / Convection Oven instructions on the box! I was shocked this is the first time I’ve ever seen this.

I called healthy choice and they told me yes this was only tested in a microwave oven and it was not tested in a regular conventional or convection oven. I’m not sure who their test Market is, but I haven’t used a microwave in 25 years! Why would I want to spend all that money on food to destroy it with microwaves! And even in your advertising on this page you do not show anywhere that it’s microwave only, nor that it was only tested in a microwave.

Or that it says it’s not recommended to cook it in a regular normal patriotic American oven. They’re asking me below how to write the quality of this product, because it was not tested in an oven, which was the way that I cooked it, it was okay, but not great Also when I called the representative I talked to could have cared less.

I wanted her to send a message to the marketing people because the way that they’re testing the product is wrong. You should not be teaching people how to microwave food, you’re selling them great quality food and then ruining it literally in a microwave!.

I’m not one to eat frozen dinners but during covid and at work I needed something quick and simple to eat on days I didn’t cook or have any leftovers. I purchased 4 of these on sale at stop shop and was surprised at the taste, quality and price for healthy meals.

I didn’t eat this alot but when I did It always had fresh vegetables that didn’t get soggy after heating and tender juicy chicken. The Alfredo sauce is thick which I like being I’m not a big fan of it.

Long story short these recently have made their way back into my home now that my boyfriend has tried them and insist we have at least 20 around for lunch or a snack. They are filling depending on your appetite, although the bowl is a proper portion of food.

This is one of my staple frozen meals for lunch. As someone who is extremely busy during the day and has a hard time finding time to eat, much less something that is low carb and healthy, this is one of my go tos.

It is delicious, low carb, and of very good quality. The chicken doesn’t have the usual weird texture you find in frozen meals. It tastes very good. The broccoli still has a little bit of crispness that steamed fresh vegetables are supposed to have.

Sometimes I add a little grated manchego and parmesan cheeses to the sauce to give it an extra kick of flavor and thicken the sauce a little more. Highly recommend.

I usually buy Smart Ones brand, but the brand has been hard to find in stock lately & instead I bought Lean Cuisine brand. This week my son was eating the Smart Ones brand spaghetti with meat sauce. It looked so good and I made a frozen spaghetti meal for myself and sat down at the table with my son—and at that very moment I realized how much better the quality and flavor of the Smart Ones brand is compared to Lean Cuisine.

The the sauce in my son’s Smart Ones brand was thick, hearty and had a generous amount of meat in the sauce. The sauce in my Lean Cuisine brand was runny, thin and had only three chunks of something in it…like a green bell pepper, a tomato chunk and a teeny-tiny piece of ground beef…it looked like watered down cheap salsa.

I was very disappointed eating my Lean Cuisine version of spaghetti with meat sauce while watching my son eat his delicious Smart Ones version of the same dish. I will be on the lookout for other options before I ever consider purchasing this brand again.

This experience also negatively impacted my regard for the entire Lean Cuisine brand and their line of frozen meals.

Any true fan if this knows that they changed to recipe. New recipe includes cheese, less seasoning and reduced portion size. Not sure what executives decided to change the original recipe to the garbage that they have now.

 This use to be good, now its not. 270 calories now instead of 250 and less meat. Now you just get 1/2 cup of elbow macaroni, 3 oz of meat, 1/2 cup of sauce with a teaspoon of mozzarella cheese. The original recipe was the best.

Bring it back!.

I’m convinced that I know how Target is able to offer Lean Cuisine Swedish Meatballs at lower prices than the competition. FEWER MEATBALLS!!! I’ve probably purchased about six of these from Target over the past year, one of them had two meatballs and the last two had only four.

Maybe these are seconds from Lean Cuisine, the ones that don’t make the weight. I don’t recall having this issue with the ones I get from Safeway. BTW, the box clearly shows five meatballs!.

I haven’t tried frozen lasagna in years, and this was an impulse buy. Hubs and I work together in a small family business and we avoid going out for lunch since Covid hit. Saves us a lot of $$! I thawed it and cut into 4 pieces.

18 minutes in the toaster oven to toast, cut in half, 30 seconds in the microwave to heat through. Delicious, quick, easy; add garlic rolls or veggies and you have lunch for 2 around $5. Thanks for offering well-priced convenient foods that we can use occasionally to ease the grind!.

My favorite frozen meal. I love Stouffer’s frozen lasagna. The taste is excellent and the preparation is so easy. I see a lot of complaints about the size but they are clearly marked. When I go to walmart this is the first thing I get, I can’t stop eating it! I love it! My mother was the one who introduced me to this delicacy and since then I haven’t stopped eating it, my rommates get tired of me always buying this because there is no space in the refrigerator when I buy this since I carry many, they even tell me that I can be able to others options and I tell them, no thanks, the only lasagna I’m going to eat in my life is the one from walmart, I say the one from walmart because I didn’t know the brand until now, but the thing is that this is extremely delicious, love it!.

Not anything like the picture. And cook less as it burns the edges. All it is is sauce, some meat, and no cheese really. Skimpy. Cannot recommend. noodles were rubbery. very tiny portion. about the size of two computer mice side by side.

definitely not a do again. i wound up throwing it out. even my non picky hubby tried a bite of noodle and passed.

Not bad but kinda overpriced in my opinion. You’re definitely paying some for the name brand and it’s association with healthier alternative frozen entrees. Even getting this on sale im still a little let down on the price per portion but I digress.

The chicken patty is large enough but is kind of thin, the texture was soft yet firm and the taste was drowned out by the sauce. I had a couple bites that mostly tasted like cheese which was okay but mostly I didn’t notice the cheese.

The noodles were an okay texture but there wasnt that much of them honestly. Maybe like 5 -8 forkfuls.

I will start off by saying I rarely eat frozen dinners, but I keep a few around for when a quick meal is needed. I saw this chicken Parmesan at my local grocery store and decided to give it a shot. The box made the chicken look very tastey.

I have to say it even tasted as good as it looked. The chicken had a fresh taste to it and was actually pretty crispy for a microwave dinner. I am picky on marinara sauces, but I gave this one a thumbs up.

Now I will say a frozen dinner will never be the same as a freshly prepared meal, but this one was not too bad and I ended up purchasing more for those quick meal times.

The lean cuisine chicken parmesan dinner is basically not that great. Obviously you can’t compare it to any restaurant chicken parmesan but for a frozen dinner it is fair. if you overcook it the chicken it is tough.

If you under cook it it is mush. I also think that there is not enough sauce. Also the cheese becomes one big unedible clump. I definitely would not recommend this lean cuisine dinner.

So I finally had the General Tso Spicy Chicken meal today, one of the 1st steamers I had. I was really looking forward to it. Spice level was good & sauce was good. However, I missed the broccoli & there were way to many scallions for me.

I’m allergic to raw onions, but can get away w/ small cooked ones, scallions are in-between. They gave a bitterness to the whole meal even after spending 20min picking them out. Needless to say this is something I won’t get again.

I am writing a review as I want to encourage ConAgra to keep making spicy dishes in their line of cafe steamers. I LOVE the spicy brown sauce in this dish – it is a blast of real spice and flavor – making a chicken/rice/veggie dish incredibly delicious.

The reviews I’ve read are completely untrue. I’ve decided after reading the reviews it has to be coming from Healthy Choice’s competition. ( LOL) This dish is too delicious!! I say this as I had this dish dozens and dozens of times and the consistency, quality, flavor and spicy sauce is outstanding.

That said you gotta love spicy. 🙂 Cafe Steamers Spicy Chicken with authentic spicy sauce IS WONDERFUL and absolutely delicious. I do 4 min microwave and each and very time PERFECT. IF you like SPICY then you’ll really enjoy it.

It makes eating healthy so much more enjoyable. My suggestion is stir it around and let it sit for a minute. For those wanting to compare the ” real General Tso’s Spicy chicken to HEALTHY CHOICE Cafe Steamer, let’s really compare.

The Googled description of this Chinese dish reads ” a sweet deep-fried chicken dish that is served in North American Chinese restaurants. ” So there you go. You’re first clue. Healthy Choice cafe steamer is not deep fried.

Googling further: someone was complaining about sodium. Healthy Choice did consider making the sodium lower. Check it out below! A Chinese restaurant standard order size is 535 grams. HChoice is 292 grams.

So HC is 55% of the standard order size. Then comparing equal sizes of each: (1) Sodium in the restaurant dish = 1,178 and HC 580 sodium. (2) Restaurant version of FAT 44g vs HC 3. 5, (3) Restaurant version of Sugar 31g vs HC 11g, (4) Restaurant version of Carbs 64g vs HC 47g (5) Protein 34.

5g vs 16g and (6) Calories 788g vs 290g. So there you have it — hope this offers another perspective! Enjoy!.

One thing that I absolutely LOVE about this is that since the sauce is cooked separately from everything else, you don’t end up with soggy vegetables and you also have the option to use how much sauce you want! So if you just want a little bit of the sauce, no problem you don’t need to have your meal swimming in it.

It’s very tasty and no extra seasoning is needed. It is also great when you want a quick meal but still be conscious about what you are eating. As a WW member, I love this for a quick lunch.

I gotta tell you, the smell alone was a turn-off. I love beef. I love chimichurri. This didn’t seem like either. I took it out of the microwave and the smell was potent. I thought, maybe it will taste better than it smells.

Nope. I tried a green bean and the texture was off. I straight up threw it in the garbage. The smell was so bad that a colleague came around with air freshener because the entire office reaked! Hard pass for ever!.

I have been buying these Max Bowls and the Tex Mex on a regular basis since discovering them at Ralphs. Whomever invented these should take a bow, because all my previous objections to frozen entrees seem to have been addressed here.

Small portions? no, this is plenty of food even for a large adult. Bland and mushy? No again, these things have fresh texture and flavor, similar to what I could cook up at home. Spendy? Not at all vs.

the escalating price of eating out/delivery. Insane amounts of plastic? No again; down to the “looks like it’s already composting” cardboard bowl. Every bit has been engineered out save for the very thin film on top.

I’ve been trying to cut down on the Cal and bought several of these at Walmart to have on days I don’t feel like prepping my meal. I got the Tex-Mex chicken. It was a strange experience because all the ingredients look fresh and good.

The chicken was good. The beans are good. The rice is good. The overall flavor is odd, kind of sour like pickle juice without the Dill. There’s a slight chili powder taste, but otherwise didn’t taste Mexican at all.

This isn’t worth the calories to finish it. I’m giving it 3 stars because the overall quality of the ingredients looks very good and I did eat the chicken out of it. But overall I didn’t like it because I couldn’t determine what it was trying to be.

The overall taste was sour. I’m sorry.

First time buyer and I will definitely pick up this item again and give the other flavors a try. Even though I do it, I kinda hate cooking. The planning, grocery shopping, the prep, the clean up, etc.

I was looking for a quick way to get my protein in without the hassle and stumbled across these. I don’t have a microwave so I lined my air fryer with tinfoil and placed the food on top at 350 degrees for 15 mins, with a couple stirs during the cook time.

Also added jalapeños, a tiny bit of cheese, dab of sour cream and pre-shredded lettuce to it. Highly recommend.

I have a baby that is almost a year old and he needs to try different foods. This meatloaf is perfect for kids! It’s super tasty. The potatoes are crap, but the meatloaf is very good. Potatoes are crazy salty and pasty 😛 I chop up the meatloaf and serve it with peas for him.

I was looking forward to this based on some of the reviews. This was revolting. I couldn’t even get more than one bite in, and that bite I spit out. It didn’t even look or smell appetizing. Not very far off from dog food, and not even quality dog food at that.

Like, canned Alpo or something lol.

This is a really solid entrée from Lean Cuisine. A great low cal option if you’re craving some comfort food. I agree the potatoes are a little underwhelming by themselves, but perfect paired with the meatloaf.

The flavor is great and there’s plenty of the gravy sauce. I usually pair this with some steamed veggies and a dinner roll since it’s not super filling on it’s own.

Don’t bother with this choice – they list pecans as the 3rd ingredient – NOT one pecan and I counted 3 cranberries. That plus a few bites of definitely OLD chicken (that I didn’t eat) then the rest went in to the trash.

I bought this one to try since it lists sweet potato, wild rice also but my pet peeve is when companies mis-represent what goes inside these meals. just not right!.

Normally I do not buy microwave dinners because of the sodium and that they are not really filling. However, these were on sale and I just wanted to have something on hand if I did not have time to make lunch for work.

This has barley and wild long grain rice, with chicken, cranberries, and sweet potatoes in a maple burbon sauce. I really did enjoy the flavour. sweet and savory.

Healthy and easy to prepare. Love that the chicken doesn’t cook as rubbery. Eat it for lunch or dinner. Comes in handy when you don’t have time to cook or after a long stressful day at work.

I have always loved the brand Stouffer’s. It is one of the best of the best as far as TV dinners. Quality ingredients with superb flavour, it doesn’t give you just a small amount of a portion either.

Plenty of macaroni with just enough beef in it that helps keep you full. There is a mild flavor to it and nothing overly spicy. I dislike anything spicy, so if that is acceptable for you then you will love this meal as well.

You can always add your own spices if it is too bland as well. But for me I just eat it as is and it is very delicious. There is a lot of protein in it for one meal, and there is also Vitamin C in it.

It has less than 400 calories so you won’t be going over your calorie count. There is a nice home-made flavor it has that is very satisfying. I keep buying this over and over about once a month. It makes me happy when I don’t feel like cooking some nights.

I crave this one, and you can’t say that about many other TV dinners. It microwaves very easily! I stir it in the middle of the process so everything is evenly heated. I sometimes have a buttered roll or garlic bread with it.

You can also make a salad and have it on the side.

Stouffer’s Macaroni Beef is a single serving meal with pasta in a tomato meat sauce. The serving is a pretty standard size; it satisfied my hunger, but I didn’t feel too full or uncomfortable after eating it.

It is microwaveable, making it perfect for a workday lunch. I was surprised at how long the instructions said to microwave it: a total of SEVEN minutes! And yikes. it was HOT when I removed it from the microwave! The pasta tastes very fresh, there are actual real tomatoes, and there’s a fair enough amount of meat in the sauce.

for me, at least. Meat lovers will probably disagree. The taste overall was really good, but if I have one complaint, it is that the sauce is slightly too tomato-y. I wasn’t blown away by this product, but I did enjoy it.

I’m not sure I would eat it every day, but I would stock up with a few if I found them on sale. I would recommend to somebody who doesn’t cook much or needs a decent-tasting hot lunch.

Usually I enjoy the frozen meals made by Stouffers, but the Macaroni and Beef is exception to that. Where the tomato sauce in Stouffers products (meatloaf, stuffed green peppers) is usually thick and tangy, the sauce in this meal was very thin and bland ~ actually reminding me of elementary school lunches of years gone by.

The pasta was nice and firm, and the meat was plentiful and tender. But the tomato sauce needs a serious re~working. Stouffers already has a recipe ~ just use the same sauce as the meatloaf.

Innovasian’s General Tso’s Chicken was tasty and fairly easy to prepare. Microwave instructions were included, but I wanted to ensure the chicken maintained some of its crunchy exterior. I heated for a little less than 20 minutes in the toaster oven, which gave me the perfect, slightly crunchy exterior.

Adding the warmed sauce tempered the crunch a little, but the exterior of the chicken did not get soggy. The frozen dish only includes chicken and sauce; so I supplemented with fresh brown rice, which cooked in about the same time as the chicken took to bake.

I also added some fresh broccoli and red bell peppers, which i stir-fried with ginger and garlic, and then tossed together with the chicken, in the Tso’s tangy sauce, for an authentic complement to the chicken.

The 1-cup serving size, for three people is a bit skimpy, but the broccoli helped bulk up the serving satisfaction. This is a flavorful addition to or dinner rotation. It did require some effort on my part, making rice and vegetables,to round out the meal; so I rate it 4 stars, since the product is more of a meal starter, since it doesn’t quite stand on its own.

But the flavor and texture were good; so I would definitely purchase again.

I’ve noticed many comments from the past few months about how the current version of the product on the shelf has way less chicken than it normally had in the past. Not only has there been less chicken but the price has increased at my local grocery store.

I LOVED this product and was so excited to have it because I hadn’t had it for awhile. I bought 3 General Tso’s Chicken and have eaten 2 so far and both had pitiful amounts of chicken in them. I haven’t weighed my product but I will be weighing the 3rd one and taking pictures to verify how little chicken is in my package.

I have always recommended this product to people everywhere. Friends and family, the check out person at the grocery store! I always had positive things to say about it. PLEASE fix the amount of chicken in your product.

It is an amazing product for its price as long as you get the normal amount of ingredients.

I am so confused by these positive reviews. I am not a picky eater, and I love cheap Chinese food, but this was just bad. No one in my family of 5 would even eat it. We bought and prepared 3 kinds of frozen asian chicken tonight – Innovasian orange chicken, Innovasian General Tso chicken, and a P.

F. Chang’s spicy chicken. The orange chicken was not good, but the general tso (usually my favorite) was disgusting. No amount of Sriracha could cover it up. I literally washed off the sauce with a sink Sprayer and a strainer and then air fried the de-sauced chicken so it wasn’t soggy, and mixed it into the P.

F. chang’s chicken which was the only one that had a decent flavor. I don’t know if I should be upset or grateful there was such a tiny amount of chicken in each box.

So here’s the thing: I love the flavor of this dish. And by the time I’m done eating it, I’m sad it’s over. But the texture, especially the first few bites and in your memory for here on our, is horrible.

It’s so. wet. The dish is very wet and mushy. Start to finish. There’s nothing that breaks up the monotonous smushing in your mouth as your glob your way through this meal. It’ll leave you feeling satisfied in the flavor department while simultaneously repulsed with your life choices.

Before they changed the recipe this would have been 5 stars. I don’t know if they cut the caloric content on it but they’ve added big chunks of green pepper and made it less creamy and a lot more watery.

It’s very bad now and that’s been upsetting because it was always one of the better freezer meal options. I wouldn’t buy this unless they revert back to the original recipe.

These are my top two next to Chicken Enchilada Suiza! I really can’t say which one is my favorite because they are both tasty and delicious. This meal does not weigh you down or leave with a lot to digest.

At one point I had this with the enchilada three times a week and felt so happy and full each time eating them for lunch or dinner.

Lean cuisine is perfect for an in between lunch and dinner snack! This roasted turkey breast comes with savory herb dressing and cinnamon apples. The turkey was perfectly moist! The herb dressing was flavorful! I didn’t need to add anything like seasonings.

I did however add some mashed potatoes cuz it’s a must have with turkey! The apples were so good and soft! Just the right amount of sweetness. At only 300 calories and 13 grams of protein, I was satisfied and will probably get this again!.

I wasn’t expecting much when I pulled the dinner out of the box. I couldn’t even see any turkey, and it looked nothing like the photo on the box. Once it was cooked though, I was pleasantly surprised.

No, more turkey didn’t magically appear, but there was more than I originally thought. It was very flavorful, and the warm apples were delicious. I’ll definitely buy this one again.

This is my husband’s favorite but the last 3 times I purchased this one the packages are not sealed properly. The boxes are intact but the seal around the meal itself is not so we end up tossing them out.

I saw another review that states the same issue. May be a production line issue but none the less, it has not been rectified as it’s been an issue for months.

This was excellent for a frozen entree. I usually buy a lower calorie “diet” frozen turkey entree. Not that those are bad ( they are pretty good). I decided to take a chance on a non- diet meal. This was not only within my calorie allowance for myself, but was so delicious.

I am so excited to see their bigger tastier menu. The He choices are great. My biggest decision is. Which one first? Second?Stouffers Has Been Around for a long time. Thats due due to Quality Meats Vegetables etc.

Also which to me is is one of most importance. That is CONSISTENTLY !!!Very very few food places or groceries tend not to do that. Which I feel they should.

This is THAT comforting meal that I whip in the nuke when I don’t know what to eat and I have zero cravings. Even if I think ‘I don’t want mash’ I will always be able to finish it. Turkey is tender. Gravy is mellow but rich.

Mash is good. Celery pieces let us pretend we are eating our greens today. Stouffer’s never fails to #satisfy.

I purchased this product online approximately one month ago. Where most meals were ok we found one that appeared to contain pieces of wood shreds. My intent is not to complain about the product but to make you aware that the content we found.
