20 Best Frosting For Yellow Cake (2023 Updated)

I received the Simple Mills organic frosting with coconut oil awhile ago. The flavor i received was chocolate. This frosting is corn free, gluten free, gum free, non gmo and vegan. The container size i received is 10oz.

The ingredients list is organic palm shortening, organic powdered sugar, organic dutch cocoa powder, organic coconut oil, organic tapioca starch, vanilla extract, organic rosemary extract, salt, monk fruit extract.

When you open the container of frosting the product looks dry. But then you mix it up it will turn smooth and creamy. You need to refrigerate after opening according to container. The frosting is a dark brown color.

It does not have a strong chocolate smell. I found the frosting is smooth and spreads very easily. I felt the taste of the frosting is a very light chocolate flavor. To me It tastes like cocoa powder.

I my self wished it was more sweeter chocolate flavor however. In all the frosting is great and I enjoyed it.

I was really excited to try this chocolate frosting from Simple Mills. The fact that it is organic, made without a long list of weird ingredients made it seem like it would be a great substitute for the sugar laden frosting I usually see/buy at the store.

I loved the packaging and the brands name really seemed to say it all. I opened the frosting and stirred it together really well, then went to taste this whipped texture frosting. Thats when I realized that maybe some of that sugar & butter really does help make a cocoa flavor.

This was missing something. It tasted like coconut oil and cocoa blended together without anything else. I brought it to my mother in law’s to use on a cake and asked her to try it. She said she liked the flavor, said it tasted a little chalky, but had a dark chocolate flavor that she thought was “ok”.

I let her keep the frosting. I think this could be a great product, just needs to re-work the ingredients and take it from cocoa to milk chocolate flavor.

I have been using the boxed fondant for the past 13 years and had been very happy with it. There was no 5 pounds box available this time and I had to get the one in the bucket as the picture. The texture was completely different from before and even when I covered my cake it started cracking and I had to keep redoing it.

If this happens next time I would definitely try to find a substitute for you fondant and use something else instead of Wilton fondant. I have a huge family and practically make all the bday cakes, wedding cakes, engagement cakes showers etc.

I use so many boxes. So far this year I have made two engagement cakes, two wedding cakes. 16 bday cakes, one engagement cake. I have one bridal shower one wedding in September. One shower and another wedding in October.

And so many other events. I can’t go on with Athena fondant which does not function well. Please bring back the 5 lb box with two separate packs of fondant in it.

Love this product! I used the baby pink for my brain cake as shown. Everyone loved the marshmallowy flavour they got from it and it was very easy to use. Recipe is surprisingly simple: Step 1: Bake two layers of your favourite cake mix Step 2: Stack one layer on the the other with your favourite buttercream recipe Step 3: shape your brain cake in to an oval by cutting off the edges of the cake and creating a groove along the top.

Step 4: Add remaining buttercream to the outside of the cake to create a surface for the fondant to stick Step 5: Roll out some fondant in to thin “logs” on to a surface with some icing sugar sprinkled down (so fondant won’t stick to the surface) Step 6: Take the log shapes and squiggle them on your buttercream starting on one and and avoiding the centre groove.

Keep adding up each side until it looks “brain like” and is completely covered. Step 7: Blend up some cherry pie filling for the “blood” and pour over top. Make sure some floods in the centre groove of the cake and I like to let mine pool around it as well.

The pearl shimmer is more like a light grey than what you would think of as pearl. I put it on my cake anyway and within minutes of it being on my cake the edges had a cracking appearance. I use fondant all the time and never had this happen.

The longer the cake sat there the worse it looked, it’s not normal fondant. I literally ripped off the fondant after two hours and had to rethink my whole communion cake it was terrible. I wish I had taken a picture to show how awful this stuff is.

Do NOT buy this product. My daughters birthday was ruined by the mess this stuff made. Literally just slid off the cake in a puddle. I was concerned when I began to frost the cooled cake layers as the frosting was very thin and drippy coming out of the container.

I have used the chocolate frostings on vanilla cakes with no problem but that was Pilsbury brand. This was a first time using vanilla frosting on a chocolate cake and it will be my last. We placed the cake in the refrigerator over night to help it set up.

Took it out and placed it on the table for the party and it looked okay so put the cover back on. By the time we were ready for cake and I removed the cover it was a total mess. This was inside a house, air conditioned to 74 degrees.

I had to run to the grocery store and spend extra money to buy expensive cup cakes for her party. I wish I could upload a photo for everyone to see as it was heartbreaking. I have used box mixes for years, all brands, and never had this happen.

First time using vanilla icing and it was a total disaster.

I bought Betty Crocker Rich & Creamy Frosting, Milk Chocolate 16 oz to use on a Betty Crocker baked yellow cake. The top lid and aluminum under the lid were easy to take off. I stirred the frosting in the container and applied it to sections of the cake.

I took my time to spread the frosting to ensure the frosting did not lift the cake topping. The container of frosting easily covered the 9 x 13 cake. The Milk Chocolate flavor is a favorite for the yellow cake.

The frosting has a rich milk chocolate taste. I prefer to stir the frosting to make it less stiff and more spreadable.

Whipped Cream frosting is the best frosting to eat for the people who are sensitive to really sweet things and/or lactose intolerant. I know this because I personally have a very sensitive stomach when it comes to sweet foods and dairy to where I would feel violently sick and nauseous.

Last weekend, I compared whipped cream frosting to the regular frosting by seeing how much it would take for the regular frosting to start making my stomach hurt. After just by taking the first bite, I felt like throwing up cause of how sugary and sweet it tasted in my mouth.

After a few hours of letting my stomach settle, I tried the whipped cream frosting and it had a less sugary and sweet taste than the regular frosting and didn’t trigger my digestive system like the regular frosting did.

I just frosted our Christmas breakfast danish with this cream cheese frosting. We’ve bought this brand several times over the years, but something is very wrong with this one. The canister says “great new taste” but it’s awful with a chemical/plastic like flavor and leaves a horrible after taste.

This doesn’t taste like any frosting I’ve ever had and definitely doesn’t taste like cream cheese. It’s not expired. Today is 12/24/2021 and the expiration date on the canister says Jan 25 2022. The batch code is 13:43 654 Something either went wrong at the factory or this “great new taste” is just a horrible new formula.

It’s too late to make a new danish, so no Christmas breakfast for us tomorrow. I’m so incredibly disappointed.

Your new formulation is really terrible and tastes as though someone spilled maraschino cherry juice in it. I bought more than one batch/can just in case the first one I got was spoiled or an anomaly.

I am known as the Cake Lady in several circles and my recipes have long been in demand. I have happily used and recommended your Duncan Hines “Classic Chocolate” for many, many years. (milk & dark chocolate as well on occasion) Your previous chocolate frostings were great tasting, easy, affordable and the only premade frostings I used.

Now, I tell everyone to make frosting from scratch or try another brand. My friends and I are truly missing your Classic Chocolate.

I have been buying Duncan Hines cream cheese frosting for ages and have always loved it. This time I didn’t realize until I opened it up at home that the can says “new great taste”. I can tell you one thing, the “new great taste”, is your new epic fail.

I fail to understand why companies that have awesome products that customers love and are loyal to change the recipes up and make them utterly inedible. Why mess with a good thing? 0/10 recommend this product.

I’d rather lick my bathroom floor than eat this absolutely vile “frosting”. Come on Duncan Hines, DO BETTER.

This is the best store bought frosting I have tasted in years. I make my own because store bought tastes too bland, weird or artificial. But this has a delicious homemade salted caramel taste. It will pair perfectly with any moist cake.

Do not like at all. I tasted mostly salt like it tasted like someone over salted it. Not enough caramel taste. Good thing it was cheap in the trash it went!

Pillsbury Salted Caramel is pretty good but it have a butterscotch taste. I’ve only tried it once. I recommend to get it if you like butterscotch flavor.

This frosting tastes good – for vanilla!!! Does not taste anything like cream cheese frosting. If I wanted just plain vanilla, I would have ordered Vanilla! I gave two stars because it has good flavor….

For vanilla! I’ll try a different brand next time.

Pillsbury’s Funfetti Frosting is always a classic, but this is the sweetest twist for Valentine’s Day. The sprinkles are adorable (and delicious), and the frosting is a really pretty pink. I used less than half the container on an entire box of the coordinating cupcake mix.

The leftovers can be refrigerated to use at a later date!.

Who doesn’t love funfetti icing. Great flavours, good price and so much fun! The packaging is so cute and convenient. You don’t have to buy your own sprinkles, it’s perfect for birthdays or special occasions.

I love buying this frosting when I go across the river and making my cupcakes and cakes with it!.

This “frosting” is downright awful. It tastes like the plastic container it comes in. There is no cream cheese in it and I am so surprised it is still on the market. I usually make my own frosting, but I was in a hurry, so grabbed this.

I wished I would have tasted it before I frosted my cake. People just scraped it off, but it was embarrassing. Surely Betty Crocker people must taste their own products at some point. Obviously this particular one was tasted by a goat.

December Birthday’s cake. It is my youngest son birthday. He is not in this country yet. So we make him a birthday cake. He loves Godzilla and Vanilla. He is little different then the rest of us. Most of time he chooses vanilla than chocolate.

So my husband made a chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. We used Pillsbury Creamy Supreme Vanilla Frosting. The vanilla flavored so sweet. But the frosting not too sweet. Which is i like it. I don’t need my creamy frosting too sweet.

And it is also easy to apply on. Not too thick and not too watery. And tasty for something not chocolate.

I love their chocolate frosting. It tastes so good. Authentic taste of chocolate. Won’t regret it. Love to buy again and again. So smooth texture. Just see the details at the back before using it. My whole family likes it.

Bought a 10oz container of chocolate fudge frosting and it really was a lot for me. I made 24 cupcakes and it was a perfect amount plus I have still have frosting leftover. At first I tried to just frost cupcakes straight out of the container which was very difficult.

I have an attention span of a nat and there no way I was going to finish frosting all of these cupcakes. Instead I put a few large tablespoons of frosting into a dish and carefully melted in the microwave.

It was brilliant because I was able to just dipped all the cupcakes into the melted frosting and it looked so pretty because the frosting had such a nice sheen to it now my family think that I can bake.

Best frosting ever.

Extremely tasteful icing. Very sweet and creamy, has a little sugary crunch ad you bite into it. Goes fantastically well with a hone made carrot cake. Store in fridge but allow time for it to reach room temperature before spreading.

Good quantity in tub, will get a couple of cakes out of it. I bought this product as part of a promotion.

I ordered this for my daughters birthday cake as was short on time and reviews looked good. I’m not sure if I got a bad batch, but both tubs I used were absolutely horrible! the consistency was good but the taste was vile, can only describe it as ‘chemically’ I tried to disguise the flavour with extra icing sugar and vanilla but that did nothing to take away the awful taste; ultimately it ended up ruining the birthday cake, very disappointed….

Love the taste and texture! Tastes like fudge. So easy to pipe and doesn’t run or go too hard. Lovely chocolatey colour. Would love to buy a bigger tub! Have bought lots of times and will definately be buying more in future.

Super cute! I ordered this and vanilla cake and me and my toddler had a ball with it! Made the coolest Halloween cupcakes with little eyes on them! What’s not to like?! So fun. Keep making Halloween treats, we love em!!.

My kids absolutely loved these. Not only does it taste good but the kids had a blast putting on the eyes.

Overall, enjoyed the cream. Would have preferred it be a little liter. Store only had the medium texture. Prepared icing as instructed on box and it came out about 90% accurate to what I was expecting.

The only other thing I would recommend is that it have a better flavor. Current basic flavoring taste very generic and chemically processed. I imagined you could probably use any of your own personal flavors if necessary but if you are looking for a white color pay attention to the color of your flavoring as many have color to them.

Try adding flavoring to a small amount to see if it changes the color of your icing before adding flavoring to the whole box.

This is great stuff, especially since it was on clearance for half the price. The taste is good, less mess than when I make from scratch (therefore much faster), and if you want chocolate just add cocoa and a little more liquid.

I used milk the first time; the second time I used water and liked the consistency much better. Works good in decorating tools, too.

Delicious!! I wasn’t sure about this since it was my first time using, but I was so happily surprised!! It tasted delicious. I loved that you can add certain things to change the consistency. Highly recommend.

I made a cake for a little guys birthday. I purchased the Christmas red gel food colouring since there was no red fondant available at that time. I do like the gel food colouring but it definitely isn’t ment for this type of fondant I used.

For some reason I had to add a bunch and still didn’t come out red like I had hoped. Maybe it was something I did but was a little disappointed. They still loved the cake though! It was a huge hit.

This product is great for making a buttercream frosting whiter! I didn’t believe it until I tried it myself. After viewing a YouTube video on how to make regular butter cream that is yellowed because of the butter, into a bright white frosting was simply amazing! All you need is just a tiny amount, so I’ll probably have this in my kitchen for a while!.

This if gluten and dairy free which is just fantastic because my daughter is allergic to both. It was SO nice to be able to buy frosting and make fast GF cupcakes for her birthday! It tastes delicious just for normal frosting.

I’ve always like Pillsbury frostings. Also the cream cheese is GF & DF if Ny other moms are looking. I added pink to the cream cheese and just added sugar sprinkles to the chocolate fudge. Very good! All cupcakes were eaten and I didn’t even tell the family that they were gluten free/dairy free.
