20 Best Foundations For Cool Undertones (2023 Updated)

For the product itself it’s definitely a 5/5. Foundations is always so hard to find a match, especially when you switch seasons. This one is great because it’s light weight, matches your skin tone but also matches it when I’m in my winter, pale and tragic phase and my summer lightly tanned phase.

No trying to find something to work for both seasons. So the product is 5/5… why did I give 4/5? The contain it come in is horrible! I’ve been using this for a couple years and it never fails that when I get about half way through the pump stops working and I need to unscrew the top and use the plastic thing that should push the cream up as an applicator since it doesn’t work, and the eventually a makeup brush to get in and finish it off.

The TL:DR version: the foundation is great, the container sucks.

What I love most about this product is how light it applies to my skin. I have a lot of freckles that I like to show off and this foundation does just this that; due to the clever way the serum adjusts to my skin colour.

It feels luxurious, lightweight and it gives a glowing, even coverage look. It works as a great base to build upon with contouring, bronzing, blush and highlight. It also lasts me a long time: one pump is all that’s needed to cover the face and it lasts all day.

As a result of that, I probably replace my bottle every 3 months. I live where there’s extreme temperatures and the foundation works great from the harshest winters to the most humid summers. Would always recommend.

The only reason I gave it a 4/5 is because, on the rare occasion when my skin is extra dry, sometimes there’s the faintest crack where it sits in the dry skin rather than above it (but really, not very noticeable and not often).

I’m not sure how this is advertised as a foundation when it has such minimal coverage. It is much more like a tinted moisturizer. It goes on white which seems a bit scary at first (like sunscreen), but it adjusts to your skin and does not stay white.

This is cool how it works, but After using it I realized I didn’t actually need it. Plus I’m not a fan of scents in my makeup (sensitive skin) so that was surprising to me. For $42 and the hopes of having some coverage this just wasn’t for me and I ended up returning.

I do have dry skin and this didn’t make my skin look patchy or creased under my eyes so if they ever come out with a fu coverage version I may try again…if it’s not scented!.

The color I ordered for this foundation was exactly what I wanted, so I was pretty excited originally. The quality seems nice but the performance isn’t. The beads/dots and liquid just don’t mix well.

It comes out chunky and I have to over work it into my skin which makes the makeup uneven. I’ve used fingers, brushes and beauty blenders. It’s light and comfortable to wear. maybe too light or you have to use a crazy amount to get buildable coverage.

Which ends up uneven. And is expensive for one use. When I try to add concealer/ highlighter or cream-like products on top the foundation rubs off when I try to blend. And yes I’m using a primer from you guys.

It does work ok with powder. But an uneven base still makes for a not so great finished look. Overall pretty disappointed. I love the bb cream but it’s a little too heavy and doesn’t have the color I need.

I think I need a medium coverage-cream foundation in the color I bought. Wouldn’t recommend or buy again.

I love Jane Iredale cosmetics. I’ve been using these cosmetics for >25 years and have seldom been disappointed. I’m 61, use medical grade skincare products and have been used the pressed powder base.

I wanted to change foundation to accommodate the inevitable age related changes in skin. I tried the foundations recommended for “mature skin. ” I use JI primer. Loose powder was just more fuss to work with than the pressed and seemed to be less flattering to dry skin.

My local shop that carries JI doesn’t like the Liquid Minerals A Foundation because “the owner doesn’t like it. ” So I ordered from the website. It’s been another disappointment. Initially, the formula came out of the pump weird and needing mushing/mixing to be creamy.

The foundation was left in little ‘clumps’ on my skin. The online representative suggested the pump had a problem. I guess it did because changing the pump helped, but, the coverage is soooo sheer! To get more coverage the site recommends using the powder! For me, this has been an experiment that just led me back to using the product I’ve been using since I was 32, pure pressed powder base! I love that stuff and highly recommend it!.

I’m one of those women who would rather not wear make-up if it means I’ll look/feel “too made up. ” This foundation goes on and feels like my stone crop serum—a little bit of lift structure to it, yet it has the coverage to blend away my flaws and 50+ years of age and sun damage.

You can use a light application for casual days, or layer it for the office or night out. Either way your skin still feels fresh and natural—but looks great!! My skin feels good, not oily, and not cakey like other mineral make-ups can leave you looking dry and older.

Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals Foundation performs nicely in the humidity, and doesn’t ever feel like it’s growing, or it needs touching up, or is running down my face. Goes on flawlessly and looks natural all day.

Wow. That’s all I can say. Pros- – wide color range with pictures distinctly labeled warm , cool, neutral, making it very easy to find your perfect color – unlike most long wearing foundations, this doesn’t look chalky, thick, or mask like.

It ends up looking like skin not like a thick layer of makeup applied to your face. -I have combination skin that’s very easily dried out and then gets flaky and oily, I bought a dewy setting spray from Walgreens to give this a nice satin finish.

If your skin is normal you will probably get the satin finish from this alone. Ten years ago I tried the bare minerals powder and a tube lipstick that was shown. I did not care for the lipstick, it went on with an uneven texture, didn’t have a nice finish, and didn’t wear well.

The powder foundation was much too yellow and didn’t look nice on my combination skin that’s often much to dry for anything other than a cream. You guys have really stepped it up with bare pro and the mineral liquid lipstick! Blown away by the color selection you offer that includes everyone.

It is so frustrating when a brand does not even make a color that works for you. I am fair and cool, there’s a lack of these shades in the market. The shade shell matched perfect.

The circumstances for when I first got this foundation we’re totally a coincidence. I had gotten a BareMinerals gift of another one of my favorite products in a shade that was too dark. Prom was also coming up and I needed a foundation that would keep me matte and look good in pictures.

So I went to the BareMinerals store and asked if they had any matte foundations, to which I discovered this. Never have I loved a foundation more. I have combo oily skin and this keeps me so so matte, but with a perfectly natural finish.

The way my skin looks in this is like a “your skin but better” product. My oily mother normally sticks to the products she’s used for years, but the minute she tried this we both had to run out and buy it for our summer and winter shades.

It’s AMAZING!! I couldn’t even understand why it didn’t have all 5 stars, but I’m assuming that it is probably a better foundation for oily skin (like most matte foundations are). I use this on top of the Combo Control Milky Face Primer also by BareMinerals, and the compliments for perfect skin don’t stop coming (and I have some major acne scarring, so I’m far from perfect😭).

I had a severe allergic skin reaction to two different medications that left tons of underlining health issues for me. I always had great complexion my whole life, clear and no redness. I wore foundation for fun and mostly light powder for everyday.

Feeling self conscious of my skin for the first time in my life at 27, I’m 30 now; I had tried about everything. Got to the point where I had to change everything I used, skincare, haircare etc. Anything I used in the past started to burn, itch, make the blister reaction come back angrily.

After a suggestion my dermatologist made to try bare minerals I haven’t looked back this is the only thing I use for foundation now. My skin actually stays pretty clear now partially thanks to this product and the way it blurs any scarring or imperfections I have now is amazing.

I bought this product after asking a Mecca consultant for a colour match of a foundation that looks natural, doesn’t cake, and preferably has SPF. I also mentioned being interested in Nars and Too Faced.

Unexpectedly, this foundation was recommended, though I actually picked one colour lighter than recommended as it was clearly way too dark for my complexion. The colour I went with is a great match, but that’s about the best of it.

The product is thick and dries/oxidises on the skin quite quickly, so it’s quite hard to blend. I have tried multiple prepping products from different moisturisers, serums, and primers to make the foundation blend better and have had varying results.

I have even tried mixing moisturiser with the foundation before applying. None of the results have been as good as my much less expensive BigW foundation. From the start of application it is patchy on my forehead and worsens with time, it also makes my pores really noticeable on my cheeks.

My skin has also been breaking out, which I have never had with any previous foundation. I used to be able to apply my daily makeup quite quickly too, and this product with all the extra effort and added products to try to get a good result has doubled how long it takes.

I plan to for a credit and get other brand samples before buying another foundation. Hopefully that way I can find what I actually want and need, rather than what I am told I should get.

Bought this at walmart after testing a few diff brands on my hand. This one dried and blended immediately but didn’t DRY OUT like ones that make your skin flaky after sitting on it for 20 minutes. Once I put it on at home I was able to put powder on right over it without waiting for it to dry enough or ruin my powder brush.

It looks natural on the skin and looks great with powder instead of dry. It stayed allll day long and was basically waterproof?? (From rain or sweat — I live in midwest so it can be blazing hot one day and rainy cold the next) … I usually get oily and have to “update” my powder many times a day to keep it looking right, but this one when I do get naturally oily it’s not even noticeable enough to feel forced to add more powder.

And I don’t breakout the ne t day. It actually feels GOOD on my skin when I put it over acne (that was already there prior). I really do love it. I just have one issue that I feel is really important and would have gotten this product a five star rating otherwise.

Because I’m saying the quality of it is immaculate, however… The shade range NEEDS to be updated. Add at least double the amount of shades you have now, please. There’s almost none for dark skinned people, not enough for midrange-dark skintones, and strange tones even for lightskinned/caucasian/asian people.

If I’m correct then this product is relatively recent? So I presume you’re still formulating more shades, or at least hope that’s the reason. Because if you want everyone to know how wonderful your product is, you need to make it AVAILABLE to EVERYONE.

And I would love that b/c I do think it’s a great product and more deserve to be able to try it.

I use Almay clear cinplexion 4 in 1 since it came out, I used this line for over 20 years, a few discontinued products with better replacements til now. The new version added prebiotic and aloe, I now break out from it and this product was recommended as a replacement via email by almay, however I broke out terribly.

And still don’t know what to use next, I will be trying cliniques version of complexion clearing liquid foundation as a last resort, hoping to find it works the same and doesn’t orrotate my sensitive skin.

If you have sensitive skin this isn’t the product for you.

Almay, I love that your products are hypoallergenic, but I don’t understand why, if you specialize is sensitive skin (so most likely your clientele is post 35, as skin becomes more sensitive with age), all your foundations are either matte or for oily skin.

Where are the moisturizing dewy, luminescent foundations for women mid-late 30s and older? I am 43, and have light warm toned skin. I bought this foundation because I needed something hypoallergenic that doesn’t irritate and give me a rash, and it said the product was moisturizing so I bought it.

My first disappointment is that your color options are all either cool or neutral in the light and medium shades. There are no lighter shades in a warm undertone. So I got the neutral buff. It’s an okay color, but too ashy, almost a slight green/gray tint against my fair golden undertone skin.

Ashy tones are aging. The finish is quite matte and looks cakey. I used my fingers; maybe I’m supposed to use a sponge, but I don’t like to do that as you actually waste a lot of product with sponges.

I actually consider your Skin Shade Matching foundation ‘matte’ but compared to this one, it’s almost dewy, maybe because it’s less heavy. So I guess I’ll stick with that one instead. If you are age 13-27, have oily skin, and want a matte foundation with fuller coverage, have either neutral or cool skin tone, this foundation will likely be a good fit for you.

If you are in your 40s+ and have dry skin, I can’t see this being super flattering. Please make a dewy finish foundation specially for dry/mature skin!.

I recently bought this foundation which I loved. It does not feel on the skin. It has high coverage. It is waterproof and long lasting. I loved it.

Excellent makeup base. I tried it thanks to this pictorial of a Mexican makeup artist. It is a base of excellent quality, beautiful finish and does not patch, I love it because it is very easy to apply.

I highly recommend it.

This foundation has been my go-to for so long that I would never have believed I could ever give it a 3 star rating. It is a holy grail for so many women, so how could that be possible? Studio Fix has such a great formula and an even, medium coverage.

It applies very easily with a brush, sponge or fingers and gives a matte, but not too matte, finish, covering imperfections without looking cakey. I have never found it patchy or liable to stick to dry areas or in fine lines as other matte foundations have done.

It even provides a certain amount of skin care with an SPF 15 – nice to have this additional level of protection before we head out in the sun. And in terms of shade range MAC foundations, especially this one, have always knocked it out of the park with literally dozens of shades compared to other brands.

With all this going for it what could be wrong? Unfortunately with my last few purchases Studio Fix has more recently started to oxidize in the bottle even when it is well in date. It comes out several shades darker with an orange tinge, even though I am using my usual shade (NW20) and my skin colour has not changed.

I have no idea why this has happened and assume they must have slightly changed the formula. Which leads to the second problem – the formula does have a strong chemical smell, almost like strong coffee.

As this has been my favourite I have persevered and tried everything to make it work and look lighter – blending it out thoroughly, using a setting powder, even mixing it with moisturiser. These things have made it more wearable but in the end it has just become too much hard work for such a basic make-up step – so sadly I have said goodbye to my former foundation and moved on.

The foundation has a creamy consistency, quite similar to the Double Wear from Estée Lauder although its finish is completely different. The packaging doesn’t come with a pump and honestly I thought that that was a plus, because I like to apply very small amount on each layer and I’m not sure I would be able to control the amount that we’ll with a pump.

The smell of the foundation is quite funny. It smells almost like paint. The smell goes away after the foundation is set. The coverage of this foundation is medium to full, but you can easily make it into a sheer coverage as well.

It all depends on how much you apply and how many layers. I have lots of blemishes and some texture/enlarged pores and I find this foundation to not accentuate any of it. It blends well on the skin and gives me a really beautiful natural matte finish.

It doesn’t transfer after it dries. I like to pair it with the Strobe Cream in Pinklite and the finish gets slightly more luminous and natural but not greasy. I apply one very thin layer of the foundation with a brush and then I reapply it only on my problem areas where I have more hyperpigmentation and it covers everything without looking heavy.

I have to mention that this foundation looks beautiful in person but even better on pictures/videos. I love this foundation and I highly recommend it! It’s one of my go to foundation of the moment. I received this product as a gift from Mac Cosmetics.

Being new to MAC foundation I made a point of getting colour matched prior to purchasing. My local store is a smaller regional one, items tend to sell out quick, so I made my next purchase of foundation online.

Big mistake, I was not aware at all, that the colour you are in one MAC foundation is not the colour you would be in another MAC foundation???? I was coloured matched as NC30 in the Waterproof foundation, but wanted to try the Studio Fix as it “mattifies”.

NC30 in Studio Fix is actually 6 shades darker. So I had to go instore for another colour match process, only to be told I couldn’t exchange the one I purchased, because apparently everyone knows that with MAC foundations each colour is different in each one??? Even though MAC’s search functionality is by colour!! I have asked a lot of people if they knew this and no, they were not aware! Anyhow, I did push the issue and managed to get an exchange.

In terms of the Studio Fix product itself, I am reasonably happy with it, you can build the coverage as you see fit, although I am a little disappointed with the mattifying aspect, it’s ok if you use it with a myriad of other mattifying products like setting spray and translucent powder, it last till mid afternoon, but after that it’s the same as every other foundation.

Cue the blotting papers!.

Awww this was the very first foundation I ever bought! One of my friends that was like one of the ‘cool girls’ looooved Benefit and that’s the only brand of makeup she used so I was like omg I have to use Benefit stuff too.

So the first makeup I got was this foundation and Benefit’s ‘Boi-ing’ concealer! I actually remember buying this shade of foundation specifically for the shade name (‘Honey – I’m So Money’) haha which is an AWFUL reason to buy a shade of makeup!! Especially foundation! But *somehow* the shade worked out okay and I didn’t wear it very often because at that point I just wasn’t really into makeup yet and I didn’t know the first thing about it – in fact, I don’t remember even having any brushes or a sponge or anything, I think I was just strictly using my fingers for everything haha.

Although I did end up using up the entire bottle of foundation, I do distinctly remember *not* wanting to repurchase it because it either applied patchy on the skin or it became patchy as it wore off throughout the day – it definitely was not long-lasting.

If this were a super cheap foundation I might recommend it as a starter foundation, but since there are plenty of other foundations that are way better at this price point, I’d have to recommend steering clear of this one.

I have used this foundation since high school, I am now in my mid twenties. This foundation has been with me through acne, break ups, SAT’s and college, engagement pictures and marriage. When I went to buy another bottle at my local beauty store, I was told that this was discontinued.

I was heart broken! It was almost too much for my pregnant emotions to have to endure. I was reassured by the women at the counter the new Hello Happy was comparable and I would be just as happy with it as I have been with Hello Flawless for the past decade of my life.

BOYYYYY was she WRONG! Hello Happy makes me EXTREMELY UNHAPPY!!! The coverage was spotty and it separated on my skin after an hour of wear. The color was off, shade one is nearly too light and shade 2 is way to dark.

They should just call shade one Banana because of how yellow it is. I was a benefit customer for life, however I am now on the hunt for a new brand because I will not pay $30. 00 for a bottle of disappointment and bad decisions when I could get a good bottle of Vodka for cheaper!.

First of all I would like to say that I like light weight foundations. This foundation is super light weight and super light coverage. If you do not like light coverage foundations and are more of a full coverage kind of person this foundation is definitely not for you.

Of course you could build it but I would not recommend doing that. I bought this product in debenhams and a person tested the shade on my skin so it would fit perfectly. I would recommend doing that.

Also this is my first ever foundation so I have nothing to compare it to but personally I think it is great. I am thirteen years old and I would say this is perfect for people who are just starting out at makeup and are unsure if they like the feel of foundation.

This product is oil free and also has SPF 25. The packaging is beautiful. I just tried it out on a friend and she is going to buy it. This foundation also has a super natural look and feels amazing on the skin.

The price isn’t too bad and for what it is it is 100% worth it. I hope this review helps. Overall i would recommend this foundation!.

This is an oil based foundation, and a very solid choice for someone who is looking for a light-medium coverage and who has relatively good skin. When you pump it out it had almost a whipped texture which I really enjoyed.

The color match on my skin is absolutely PERFECT and I often have a bit of a hard time getting the perfect undertone. The finish is more of a soft-matte to natural finish. I will say that it isn’t really buildable, as I found adding extra in certain places just melted into the skin and almost disappeared.

The reason this foundation gets 4 stars from me is because it is one of VERY few foundations that are completely ALUMINUM free!! It also does not contain any chemical spf which I prefer, and a lot of foundations seem to include that by default.

I like to add in a drop or two of Dermablend pigment to add a little extra coverage which works great. I have been using this for about two months now with no increase in clogged pores or blemishes on my acne prone skin.

This foundation actually contains oils that are acne friendly and help balance natural oil production. I will say it doesn’t do anything to camouflage pores or fine lines, but it doesn’t accentuate or make them worse either which can be a challenge to navigate for us with very large pores.

I actually think the finish of this foundation would also suit dry skin types due to its ingredients and overall finish. I did enjoy this foundation, and will continue my search to find a more full coverage aluminum free foundation.

Color is perfect and love the creamy feel. Have been a customer since 2000 when I first saw your line of products in my husbands Plastic Surgeons office. I refuse to use anyone else’s. Janes makeup has been known to last up to 48 hours with no problem.

Though I recommend it to everybody they always come back with”Never heard of it” maybe some form of mass mailing offer or ads would help. I live on the West Coast of USA and I will go to the distance of even looking up on the Web for a store close to them in order to personally purchase your products, fore some people want to see products first.

I am new to this brand but heard so many people rave about it so I was excited to try it. I opened the bottle and noticed when I took off the lid the stem was glass and broken. I have foundation start leaking a few days later all out the base of the cap.

I didn’t realize it was actually supposed to have a pump and not and open bottle. It had broke and left foundation exposed causing oxidation and such. Not how the foundation actually is bc of that. Not sure if it was bad shipping or bad packaging.

Either way, $50 for a busted product bottle and product waste seems unfair.

This foundation felt light and natural when I put it on (I don’t usually use a lot of foundation). Coverage was smooth and shade was a pretty good match initially. Over 5 hours, there was little oil breakthrough (I have combination skin – slight oiliness in T zone, rest of the face can get somewhat dry if in a dry climate, but nothing a little moisturizer in the morning can’t fix).

After 8 hours in 90+ degree weather, dry climate, the color had darkened slightly and the foundation had acquired a slightly orange tint (oxidation) There was visible settling into fine lines and creases upon close examination, although looking at myself in a car mirror, the settling was not too visible.

So performance is reasonably good, although not as good as the Stay Matte Oil Free, in terms of being transfer proof. This foundation definitely transfers way more easily, so I would not wear any white or light colored clothing that comes up my neck if I was going to use this.

The sunscreen works pretty well – no burning after a full workday wearing it (I have light olive skin, so you may not get this result if you are very fair). I was out in the sun probably for an aggregate total of about 1.

5 hours. I will keep this, but will likely not buy it again. I like foundation to be transfer proof!.

I purchased this foundation in the shade Stone using online shadematch and at first, I felt that I had wasted money. The full coverage, slightly yellow and too-matte dullness of it on my tan, slightly luminous skin made me look worse.

It was like I was wearing powder caked on my face– thinner applications did NOT work. Should have stuck with a semi-sheer CC cream, I thought. Foundations never work on my skin. Then I had a thought.

I’d received a free sample of Clinique’s anti-pollution hydrating jelly, which qorks great for my acne-prone areas. It’s a clear substance, like suspended water, and so I suspect it’s silicone-based.

Silicone makes things glide, so I mixed some foundation with the hydrating jelly on the back of my hand and applied that to my face. What an amazing difference! The foundation blended with the jelly becomes ultra-flexible, matte but not without a little glow to give it life, and it blends flawlessly with every feature of my skin.

I’m in love now! Anyone who finds the foundation too dull, creasy, or powdery should absolutely mix it with a silicone product and see what a difference it makes. I hope both of these products are in Clinique’s lineup for years to come.

I was looking for a new foundation and I have sensitive skin which is acne prone and being in my early 50’s it’s a pain. I have warm/neutral undertones to my light/medium skin. I do find Clinique to be a bit warm in their shades for light/medium warm undertones.

At first I was shade matched with CN40 which was a tad too pink. Then shade matched to WN38. Both work but I like the WN38 Stone better even if it’s a tad too warm. The foundation is full coverage and I find it does not settle into my lines/wrinkles as long as I don’t use too much.

I have dry skin and this works for me as long as my face is prepped properly with a good moisturizer. I put on my face sunscreen moisturizer and follow with Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing lotion.

If I need to during the day I spritz my face with the Moisture Surge spray. I think in the summer months this foundation will be perfect formula for my dry skin – even not in the cooler months it’s fine.

Hopefully I will be able to find a summer shade next summer. Bonus – this does not irritate my skin or cause me to break out. A win in my book.
