20 Best Foundation For Mature Skin With Large Pores (2023 Updated)

Being 38, with temperamental skin – very oily and claggy much of the time, combo/slightly dry in spits during winter, and given the whole barefaced beauty movement that came out of the pandemic, I was after a natural-looking foundation that wouldn’t settle into fine lines and ideally, would last.

This foundation definitely ticks all the boxes for lighter than air, refreshing texture, natural coverage and suitability for most skin types. It applies very unevenly and streaks at first but magically, imperceptibly, it blurs and partially dried down to a very natural satin finish.

It’s cruelty free too – which was a massive draw for me. But there is a real technique to applying this. I get the best results with no primer at all. Perhaps to get the gel to actually adhere to the skin? You must set this with powder and despite the use of a setting spray, sadly this does not last the day.

It doesn’t settle into most lines barring a stubborn single marionette-like line I’ve had since I was 6. It smells and feels so lovely and fresh but it is alas, too expensive for what essentially looks and feels like a lovely, light (certainly not medium) coverage tinted moisturiser.

Yes it layers well but if you want something quick and foolproof, this is not for you. Am I glad I tried it (Shea for reference) – absolutely. Would I purchase again? Sadly no. The search for natural looking medium-buildable coverage foundation continues….

So, I bought this during lock-down accidentally in a shade wayyyy too dark, and I’ve always been too lazy to return items. But, I knew it was an interesting one from my first swatch, and it matched my mum a lot more, so I now use it on her when she wants me to do her make up, and man, it looks so good on mature skin.

Like, it doesn’t look artificial at all, I’ve never seen anything like it. I finally bought it for myself a few weeks ago, and I’m so glad I did. It is truly the perfect everyday foundation. If you’re looking for something you can build into full coverage, this won’t be it.

It applies like the most exquisite facial moisturiser so only use your fingers. It is extremely hydrating and leaves the most beautiful finish, but would not recommend for nighttime use unless you’re going to the movies or something.

I can see myself using this for the rest of my life. 100% worth the money.

I accumulated quite a few high end foundations recently and it was high time to ditch those which were a waste of space in my cupboard. There were big disappointments there : Suqqu‘s creme foundation had to go – looks pasty and sits in my pores.

So did Cle de Peau‘s Radiant Crme Foundation, which was neither creamy, nor radiant ! (their TheFoundation is great though !). The winner is Chantecaille’s Future Skin Gel foundation – honestly I don’t know why I bought it… It’s an „oil free gel“ foundation – not the first choice for my mature, dry skin.

It‘s called matt – while I like my foundation dewy (and matt is usually deadly for mature skin…), but this one is easy to apply (I dabbed it with a sponge), you can easily build it up and looks still totally natural.

My skin feels comfortable and plump, even after 5 hours of application (without primer). And Vanilla is the perfect shade for my mid-fair skin. Thank you, Chantecaille !.

The color I ordered for this foundation was exactly what I wanted, so I was pretty excited originally. The quality seems nice but the performance isn’t. The beads/dots and liquid just don’t mix well.

It comes out chunky and I have to over work it into my skin which makes the makeup uneven. I’ve used fingers, brushes and beauty blenders. It’s light and comfortable to wear. maybe too light or you have to use a crazy amount to get buildable coverage.

Which ends up uneven. And is expensive for one use. When I try to add concealer/ highlighter or cream-like products on top the foundation rubs off when I try to blend. And yes I’m using a primer from you guys.

It does work ok with powder. But an uneven base still makes for a not so great finished look. Overall pretty disappointed. I love the bb cream but it’s a little too heavy and doesn’t have the color I need.

I think I need a medium coverage-cream foundation in the color I bought. Wouldn’t recommend or buy again.

I’m one of those women who would rather not wear make-up if it means I’ll look/feel “too made up. ” This foundation goes on and feels like my stone crop serum—a little bit of lift structure to it, yet it has the coverage to blend away my flaws and 50+ years of age and sun damage.

You can use a light application for casual days, or layer it for the office or night out. Either way your skin still feels fresh and natural—but looks great!! My skin feels good, not oily, and not cakey like other mineral make-ups can leave you looking dry and older.

Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals Foundation performs nicely in the humidity, and doesn’t ever feel like it’s growing, or it needs touching up, or is running down my face. Goes on flawlessly and looks natural all day.

I’ve been using JI pure pressed base for many years (LOVE!), and have tried this liquid minerals several times. I am attracted to it because it’s lightweight, good for my skin, serum-like, and popular.

My stumbling block is that the little bubbles are hard to “crush” and blend completely. I don’t love using a brush to apply because most of the product absorbs into the bristles = wasteful. I dispense product onto the back of my hand, “smooth & crush” the beads, and apply with my fingers.

I use the pure pressed base on shiny areas afterwards. The finish then is beautiful, but I’m not sure I’ll prefer this on the daily over just the pressed minerals base. I will likely just use this liquid on occasion.

This foundation creates a very beautiful natural finish no matter what I use for application: Fenty Precision Makeup Sponge, or fingers, doesn’t matter. I prefer a very light coverage application, so I cannot say how this would hold up if I needed fuller coverage.

It’s just barely scented, and inoffensively. It sits well by itself or with a setting powder over it (I use MAC Blot). I tend towards oilier, so the powder helps it last a lot longer. Even without powder, it doesn’t clog my pores, nor does it look like it’s separating throughout the day (in fact it looks surprisingly glowy after some oil starts appearing by early afternoon).

It does start moving and collecting around the nose once the oiliness sets in late day, but no foundation is impervious to that. I would highly recommend this to anyone with normal, combination, or oily skin.

I’m fairly on top of exfoliation, so I cannot say if this has ever clung to dry patches (though I find that no foundation holds up if you have dry skin, so I would be amazed if this was an exception).

Application goes on very smoothly. This is NOT a thick formula, nor does it run like a watery tint. It’s more moist than MAC or NARS Foundations, in my experience, but not quite a hydrating lotion. It doesn’t tend to dry before I’m finished applying, and I live in a very dry climate.

I have not worn this during a hot sweaty humid summer yet, so I cannot review for that climate. Currently it is a crisp and dry autumn, and it’s holding up well throughout day and evening wear.

Overall I’m disappointed with this famous foundation. I’d tried it by using samples over the years but I bought my first bottle about a month ago for a special occasion. I bought it to be photographed in.

The good things about this: it has a lovely finish; fresh and smooth, and the shade 6. 0, Medium Olive, is a match for my difficult to match skin. It does look great in photos, but not necessarily better than my other foundations.

I am extremely disappointed in the wear-time of Luminous Silk. I’m spoiled, because my go-to foundation for years has been Estée Lauder Double Wear (Tawny). But, frankly, I get better wear (and coverage) from Clinique Even Better Clinical Serum, and NARS Sheer Glow (the foundation most similar to Armani for me) lasts longer than Luminous Silk, and has a more radiant finish! I feel like I’m missing something…this foundation is iconic…but, in my opinion, it’s way, way overpriced.

I need to use concealer with this and it’s the first time in my life I’ve ever used concealer. I find the finish of Double Wear to be more beautiful on my skin. People compliment my skin all the time when I use it.

In a month of using Armani the closest I’ve had to a compliment is someone told me I looked tired one day. Since this foundation is so lauded, I expected it to be something with exceptional performance and appearance.

On my skin it doesn’t hold a candle to Double Wear. For “radiant” foundation NARS Sheer Glow is more beautiful on me, and for “natural”, I prefer Clinique Even Better serum. For perfect skin, Double Wear can’t be beat.

I had to try this, and I’m glad I did. I’m also glad I honestly prefer other foundations. This is overpriced, and something in it makes me break out when I use it daily.

If you’re a person of color looking for a new foundation look no further, this foundatoion is absolutely amazing. I have a neutral warm golden undertone and having both undertones I do not have a lot of perfect shade matches in other brands.

The shades are either too warm or too olive but this is such a perfect match to my skin. This a medium coverage foundation without looking cakey, it looks like skin. This foundation makes your skin so luminous and dewy without looking greasy, I use MAC Strobe Cream to make it even more luminous.

The shade range is amazing and is a very good option for women of color and women with with a neutral or olive undertone, especially Indian women looking for a new foundation. This is my new holy grail and my forever foundation, its also very beginner friendly.

The price tag on this foundation is worth it trust me you will not regret getting it and you will not find anything like it. For shade reference I match to Fenty Pro Filtr 370 foundation, Hourglass Vanish Stick Natural Amber, Rare Beauty 360W, Rare Beauty Skin Tint 42N.

My absolute favourite skincare/ makeup product that has really transformed my skin. I don’t like wearing foundation anymore because it feels quite heavy but I do like something lightweight to even my skin tone and give me a fresh glow – this does exactly that! I find coverage is buildable too if I want a bit extra on some days.

I get so many compliments about how good my skin looks wearing this evening though it looks like I’m not wearing anything. Got a friend hooked on it too. Highly recommend. Not only that, the serums have improved my skin too and I’m getting fewer breakouts.

Bonus that it’s an SPF too though I will say that if I know I’m going to be outside all day or in really hot weather I do wear an SPF underneath it too to be safe. Best tip I can give is to let that absorb fully before applying this product so that it applies nicely to the skin.

I bought the Ilia skin tint in Rendezvous after searching for a pink-tinted foundation light enough to wear all day. I needed moisture, UV protection and plumping without that caked on feeling. I have had one bottle on the go since December and it is still going strong.

I don’t understand the complaints about the bad smell with this product. It does not have an artificial scent, but I prefer that because it means no irritation. It is a silky, nourishing serum with enough tint to bring out youthful pinks and balance those darker, patchy areas.

I add a concealer around red areas near the nose. Do try it if you have sensitive skin and like sun protection from a cruelty free brand. It gives a gorgeous pink glow.

I had 010 cool cashmere, firstly shades run lighter than they appear, even after oxidising. I also have shade 044 cool chai so I can mix the two when I wear tan or use as a bronzer, and that too was lighter than expected, so I would say go a shade darker than you think or go try in a shop first.

I tried this because of Tati as she is closer so my age I thought I’d give it a go. It is full coverage and a lot does go a long way. You have to dab to blend, no rubbing at all or it will look awful.

It is long wearing too and to me, looks better on the skin after an hour or 2. However it does make my lines look worse and I do have to ammend that. The smell isn’t great. At all. Does smell like they mixed in some plasticine.

For the price its a very good foundation however I probably wouldn’t buy again because I am on a journey of finding a foundation I love rather than like. BUT it does depend on skin types, I have combo, and age, if I was 10 years younger I probably would love this.

I have mixed feelings about this foundation. I have combination skin and tried this foundation with and without primers, powder or setting spray result was pretty much the same. Pros: 1. Shade is perfect for me, 2.

Feels nice on the skin when applied, don’t feel like I’m wearing foundation. And that’s about it. Cons: 1. It doesn’t stay! Touch your face and you’ll have visable fingerprints on your face-no joke! (and nooo! I did not use to much foundation!) 2.

It’ll transfer easily on to your face mask in no time, 3. My pores are ENORMOUS even on my forehead where I’ve not even knew I have pores of this size, 3. It creases in the finelines pretty badly, even if I’ll set it with a bit of powder, 4.

It creates strange dry patches on my skin, 5. after couple of hours wear it starts looking cakey, skin looks oily and you can see that it’s breaking 6. if you’ll try to fix it or even touch it up it’ll make things even worst.

Concept was great and I really hoped it’ll work but for me unfortunately it’s a fail. Shade is perfect for my skin tone but that’s about it. It didn’t worked for my combination skin but it doesn’t mean it’ll not work for someone else.

Personally I will not repurchase this.

On paper, this sounds like a brilliant foundation for a dry-skinned person seeking a natural skin-like finish. Upon looking at the ingredients, it seemed like there weren’t enough hydrating ingredients to prevent the hyaluronic acid from pulling moisture from the skin, especially in the current low-humidity winter climate I’m in.

I tried it anyway. This foundation is unwearable on me. It emphasizes every bit of dry skin and texture I’ve got, and settles into pores, resulting in the polka-dot-pores effect. I would describe the finish as matte, and a dry-looking matte, at that, so generally not the version of “skin-like” I’m going for.

When I build it up (it claims to be buildable to medium coverage), it cakes up upon itself and looks heavy. In a nutshell, I would avoid it if you have dry skin, particularly if you have any flaking or peeling going on (it’s a hot, hot mess caking up on the edges of any flaking skin), and especially if you are in a low-humidity environment.

I really love this foundation and concealer. It has nice coverage but not a lot which is why I use. The smart shade blends in so nicely you do not see any differences between your face and neck. A dermatologist recommended to me; when he did I have to say I was shocked.

I asked, “what about”. I named a list of high end brands and he said save your money this will not make you breakout, it feels nice on the skin and he was right! Almay Smart Shade Skin Tone Matching Makeup SPF15 #100 LIGHT (PACK OF 3) Plus a Free MUA Moisture Balm.

This was actually better than expected. BUT, make sure you hydrate/moisturize your skin VERY WELL before applyjng this product. It’s rather dry and if you don’t have a good, moisturized base skin, this product will accentuate the peeling texture of your dry skin.

But the blending factor is better than I expected. It does feel like you’d expect how thick SPF would apply, like SPF 70, which kinda sucks because this product is only SPF 20. But I’d rather it’s good it has SPF at all.

This was my first Armani foundation I have tried and I was very underwhelmed. For all the good reviews and for all the years you have heard about how wonderful Armani foundation is I had high exceptions.

This foundation was very hard to apply. It was cakey when I applied with any kind of brush, but patchy when applied with a beauty blender. To finally get a good even coverage took me over a half hour! Who has time for that? And then throughout the day it totally wore off and started to become patchy and separate.

The coverage was barley medium coverage. Pro it did not crease into fine lings or pores. I also found it was picky with primers. My Tatcha primers would not work with it at all. Would make it separate immediately.

The only primers I got to work with it are the Makeup Forever primers. Overall I do not recommend and very overwhelming for the price. Dior foundations are much better.

Very first Armani foundation that I bought. It doesn’t disappoint me at all! My face doesn’t break out or feels clogged at all! (which is the most important factor for me when selecting a foundation) My face looks nude with this, and the coverage is enough for me (perfectly covers my redness and acne pigmentation without looking heavy).

Though `I don’t wear foundation anymore cause my skin is healthy now, this product is such a good friend helping me through during a hard time ( I was empowered with confidence with this foundation when there was a time there were considerable redness and acne pigmentation on my face).

A good but an overpriced foundation. It looks absolutely stunning, in a classic glass packaging with a great pump with a luxurious feeling. The only con for the packaging is that it’s quite heavy and can break pretty easily.

\n\nI have a love hate relationship with this foundation. I love it in the summer when my skin tends to be more oily, but I absolutely hate it in the winter when my skin is super dry and it ends up emphasising all of my dry patches.

The formula is very lightweight and can barely be felt on the skin. If you have a comb to oily skin, the finish of this foundation would look gorgeous on you, it’s very smooth and doesn’t dry completely matte but satin.

It does last on my face for 8 hours (not 14 as Giorgio Armani claims it to be) which is pretty long-lasting for my skin. If you have dry skin this foundation would not look nice on you, especially if you have any fine lines/dry patches, in the winter I like to use its sister foundation, the luminous silk which suits my dry wintery skin.
