20 Best Fold Down Shower Seat (2023 Updated)

I was looking for a Matte Black shower seat to match my trim and faucet. I wanted something that looked good when it was closed, was slim against the wall, and didn’t remind me of a hospital. This really checked all those boxes! I had a handyman install it because I didn’t want to drill into my tile wall.

The seat it spaced so you can hit the studs on both sides. Love it!.

The seat is very stylish and well made. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because my shower is too small to accommodate it so I have to return it. This is in no way the fault of the product but I could not give it the 5 stars it deserves since I did not have it mounted in my shower.

Love this seat! It’s comfortable, can hold my husband’s weight (6’3” and 185) and low profile. Only wish it folded down and not up. Overall, it’s a great addition to a shower!

Purchased recently. Will update for rust proofing after 6 months of use as well as solidity of the wood besides mold resistance. Initial view is disappointing because the hinges are quite tight.

The design was just what I was looking for and I love the teak but I was disappointed to find the “metal” bracket covers were actually plastic. They also give a bit when weight is on the seat making it feel unstable although the brackets are secure.

A perfect bench for our shower. Its sturdy and comfortable. It easily folds up and out of the way when its not needed.

It is great. We have it in our shower and it allows us to sit down if we feel tired. it doesn’t look bulky and doesn’t show alot of metal when folded up. Definitely a bonus for our walk in shower install.

This seat is perfect for all ages: security for seniors, those who prefer hand held showering, and for ladies who need a seat for shaving legs safely. Highly recommend!

It makes shaving my legs so much easier!! Plus we are seniors, so as we age this will come in handy. A great solution for our tiny guest bathroom.

We bought this teak bench when having our master bathroom remodeled two years ago, and I regret buying it. The underside of the bench gets a white film/discoloration from showers (our shower is 3′ x 4′) and doesn’t easily come clean.

We have to take the bench off the wall at least once a year to restain the teak, and teak oil REEKS for days. I have asthma so this is not good. The smell also is headache-inducing. And it’s a pain because we’re literally taking it apart.

I’m concerned that we’re going to strip the wood behind the tile from having to remove it for cleaning and staining. We’re getting ready to take it off the wall again to restain it, but also because there’s a mold smell we can’t get out of the shower and we suspect it’s from moisture build-up behind the back.

There’s a gap behind it and between the slats, and I always rinse off the shaving cream when I shave my legs, so water gets behind it. I feel like we’re stuck with it because anything we’d buy to replace it would not cover both sets of holes in the tile, and it would be expensive if not impossible to remove those two tiles and have them replaced.

It’s wider than most benches as well, so we’d be filling holes in a marbled pattern tile with grout. NOT a look I’d be happy with. I would strongly recommend buying a folding bench that is maintenance-free, won’t allow mold to build up behind it, and is less expensive.

There weren’t as many options two years ago as I’m seeing today. I’m still going to call the tile guy to get his advice about swapping this out. It’s not worth the hassle. It’s sturdy, but only looks good for a short period of time before the film builds up.

I love this shower chair. I’m happy I chose this instead of a permanent built in bench as I have more room inside the shower. I did seal the teak using Danish teak sealer (don’t use teak oil) made for boats and outdoor teak furniture bought here on Home Essentials Direct.

I followed the Instructions for the sealer and sanded the wood slats first, then roughed them between coats with a green scotch pad. I waited 8-12 hours between coats and put on 4 coats. The wood darkened and turned out beautiful.

The water beads up on the wood nicely.

I have installed 3 of these and my older clients love them. Things to know- screws are 16″ apart and you must put all screws in studs or pre block wall ( if you are remodeling) Also I recommend treating with teak oil prior to installing.

It will make it easier to get the 1 slat that will not come out on back rest if it is installed. Excellent Moen product. Also it will take 2 people to place seat and mark holes ( unfortunately no template).

Pre drill with 1/4″ glass/tile bit through Tile only. If not comfortable HIRE A PROFESSIONAL. I only have installed the brown oil rubbed bronze and it does match in color to other oil rubbed bronze (ORB) in Moen product line.

This seat is rated for 400lbs and I am well below that–by 80lbs. It seemed very sturdy at first, but after using this no more than twice a week for 6 months, the legs are bending! I tried straightening them a couple times, but after slowly listing to one side until i almost got dumped into the toilet, I’m a bit scared to take a shower! Before I bought this, I was using a metal folding chair, which became quite rusted and was also making me nervous.

Now I am looking at other models, and some chairs have braces (brackets?) between the legs; that seems like a much safer design. Most tubs and showers are slightly sloped toward the drain and are not perfectly level; I imagine this can put uneven pressure on the legs of the chair, causing them to weaken.

Another issue with this chair is that the bolts occasionally become loose. I can’t imagine why this happens; I don’t wiggle around while I’m using it! If you already own this item and the legs ever feel wobbly, turn the chair over and tighten the bolts.

But if you haven’t bought it yet, I recommend looking for something sturdier.

Purchased Shower Bench beds of the picture and description. There should have been a crossbrace under the seat. Wasn’t there, tried to return it and was told you have the right chair, our website had the wrong picture.

Finally after a week of back and forth I was supplied the return paperwork. A week later, still waiting on refund.

I bought this to replace a teak wood stool for my shower. By family request, I got the foldable type, and this is VERY good- adjustable height legs, easy-fold legs (after the 1st or 2nd time I loosened the clip grip of the cross bar), easy-clean surface.

Good handles to move it without getting a slippery surface that slides out of your hands. Small enough for a box shower, but wide enough to seat a big adult. Highly recommend.

The seat is exactly as described EXCEPT one of the mounting pins is not aligned correctly (installer fault). It’s noted in the description that we need to use a 5/16th screw to remove the mounting pin.

There is no way that is correct as it’s far to large. Has anyone else ever tried to remove the mounting pin? If so how did you do it?.

Solid construction to be placed in a shower – to help care for my mother-in-law. Solid wood, love the flip away feature comes with great instructions will see how it lasts. comparable price. Also luckily matches our current shower heads.

WOULD love to see it in aged bronze.

Looks exactly like the picture. Be aware that the screw holes are more than 1. 5 inches apart so if you are trying to sink it into a stud, not all the screws will go in a stud. It does come with anchors.

I have not installed the seat but it appears to be well made and good value for the money. All framing and screws are stainless steel. Not sure what type of wood the seat is made of but the finish looks great.

The only thing I was disappointed about is the seat folds upward exposing the back of the seat and framing. It would look so much better if the front of the seat was exposed when in the folded position.

You will love it – great addition to my shower. Only prob was NO directions in English. Took us awhile to figure it out but the actual install was less than an hour – I have ceramic tile so a lot of drilling.

This is great for the price and does exactly as expected. Santa slowly pops up and down at the top of the tree and looks great when all lit up. 4x anchors and guide ropes. Make sure the two zippers are closed to get full air flow inside and also allows more ballast to be added to the bottom if needed.

A good size. Does the job fine. You will need to work out what screws you need if you are fitting it yourself. None are provided. It depends on the type of wall.

Unit received initially had manufacturing damage to paintwork that was visible when in use so returned it for exchange. Delayed the work but arrived just in time before project completed (1 week after reporting) hence the 3 star rating.

Time will tell re reliability.

The client, in her 90’s, has stated “it’s the best addition to her walk in shower providing a safe showering solution to standing” The fixings are excellent allowing to avoid potential pipe work to the rear at 150 centres.

Excellent delivery service. Easy to assemble, stable, safe and very cute shower chair. I highly recommend this product for its over all functionalities.

Do not trust this chair for someone who is disabled. The plastic cracked on the front leg and thank god my husband did not go down in the tub after his hip surgery. I think the one front leg plastic cracked after he would slide around to get out of the tub and was probably putting too much weight on the one leg.

Just please don’t trust it and end up back in the hospital.

This was the only chair we found that would actually fit into our bath tub so we could still close the shower curtain around it. It has a great look, is sturdy, lightweight, and adjusts to a very comfortable height.

The back folds down when not in use to store away more easily. Great shower chair!.

We are remodeling our master bath- the shower is small and there was no way to put in a seat. We saw this on Wayfair and thought…wow- how much more perfect could that be. It turned out super!

This is pretty easy to assemble and carry to the tub. This is a little wider than I thought, so it has to sit at a wider point in our tub closer to the middle. I personally haven’t used it but my wife has and she really likes it.

I can leave it in the tub and still have room to shower standing up. I would not put too much weight on the backrest handle because it tips over too easily. Please be careful while using this. Have someone install permanent handrails if something sturdy is needed to get in and out of the tub.

I’ve been having difficulties with back pain and standing to take a shower has not been pleasant. I didn’t think this chair would fit in my shower but, it’s perfect! I still have space to stand if I desire but, I won’t.

Being able to sit and relax while bathing makes a great difference for me at this point. And due to up and coming surgeries, this is certainly a welcome addition without having to have my shower completely renovated.

This was purchased as a replacement to the same product purchased eight years before. Sometime in year seven the legs broke where they meet below the seat cover. This new chair is narrower than the old one as is the stance of the legs where they sit on the floor.

This difference is the reason for the ‘dislikes” above. Otherwise, I expect the same service from this new chair.

Shower seat seems to be of good quality and excellent design with built in levels – well thought out. . . Have not installed seat yet but seems to be very simple with good instructions and video

The bench is well made and comes as described. We haven’t installed it yet, so I can’t share how well it will hold up or about the installation process. It looks nice and sturdy. Ordering and shipping was very fast and easy.

Perfect for sower and much better than trying to build seat shelf in shower

This is a really nice shower seat. It is attractive, functional, strong and operates smoothly. The key is in the preparation for installation and the actual installation. Since we performed a demo down to the studs and subfloor, we had the opportunity to install super heavy duty blocking.

We installed doubled and stacked 2 x 12’s. Cement backer board was installed next, followed by the porcelain tile. Using the supplied template and careful drilling through the tile, extra long SS screws firmly anchored the seat to the wall.

I would not even remotely consider using plastic wall anchors or any other types of anchors. For maximum strength, it must by attached to proper blocking.

A client of mine has a black pepper shampoo, I loved the way it smelled so I wondered if this was going to smell similar. Sure enough it does! And when you think of black pepper, you think of the kind on the table but this is more of a sexy manly scent, woodsy, clean, a mans cologne that is soothing and relaxing to the senses and makes you want to smell it more and more.

So much more I just bought 6 more melts of it and already have 6 here now plus 2 jar candles. I am now middle age and have become sensitive to fragrance, headaches and some just get to me, so I’m very selective.

This is my favorite above all. My husband’s too, he washes his hands at the sink, the warmer is about 3 feet away and he will say “something smells good” or “is that the black pepper I smell?” he loves it too and he said of all of them he likes that one the best.

So don’t hesitate to try it. Begin with the melt if you’re unsure which is what I did. It’s not your pepper shaker scent! It’s hard to explain but if you love sexy woodsy, clean, man cologne kind of scents, try it! I promise you won’t be disappointed!.

I have not had much luck with the performance of scented car fresheners, until I tried this heavenly scent. I first tried it hanging from my rear view mirror & was disappointed in its performance, (0/10 throw), so I switched it to being clipped onto my front seat air vent.

It was like night & day in the throw of this air freshener. Clipped to my auto front vent the throw was AMAZING, 10/10! Smelled strongly of yummy blueberries/raspberries with just a subtle undertone of tangy lime & orange.

The packaging said this wonderful scent was estimated to last up to one month. I was pleasantly surprised that the packaging info was wrong! This scent lasted (& very strongly) for at least 3-4 months!!! I roll down both of my front seat windows at night while I park in my garage & I could still smell the pleasant scent when getting into the car before rolling up the windows & driving again.

HIGHLY recommend this great performer for your car to smell fresh with a berry/slightly citrus scent if you place the freshener on your car vent. Will definitely by this favorite of mine again.

Oh I love this seat. It can be folded down to sit on, to clip toe nails, scrub hard working feet. Best of all, one can just sit down and let the warm water cascade over tired, aching, dirty body parts after tackling an unruly garden.

Love it. Love the teak slabs to sit on.

Easiest installation! Note get a ceramic tile bit that you keep wet while drilling. Love the new seat, saves room in the shower.

Noch besser wäre der Sitz, wenn man ihn nach Montage in der Höhe und nach rechts und links an der Wand montiert verstellen könnte, vielleicht auf einem Schlitten montiert, der seinerseits an der Wand befestigt ist.

Ist für unterschiedlich grosse Personen angenehm.

The way it is assembled does not allow the top three boards to be screwed in place so it’s hard to make sure the same spacing as the seat boards stays in place. Seems very sturdy otherwise but you need to make sure there is solid blocking behind the wall first.

Toggle bolts won’t be strong enough to hold heavy weight.

Very happy with this purchase. We have yet to install in shower that is being tiled, but we want to say that this is of high quality and design. It will not disappoint. This chair will be more comfortable than sitting on cold marble or granite.

NICE AND STURDY FEELING FOLDING SHOWER SEAT. GOOD AND WEIGHTY AND WELL CONSTRUCTED. cOMES IN 2 PARTS WITH ALL FITTING. YOU FIT THE BASE PLATE TO A SOLID WALL USING A SPIRIT LEVEL TO BE SURE IT IS LEVEL.

i ALSO USED SOME SILICON SEALANT TO REDUCE THE RISK OF WATER INGRESS. THE SEAT PART SITS ON THE BASEPLATE AND IS SECURED BY A GRUB SCREW ON THE UNDERSIDE SO NICE AND DISCRETE FITTING. i ALSO FINISHED OFF WITH SILICON SEALANT ONCE FIRMLY ATTACHED TO THE BASEPLATE.

I previously had one which was fitted but not used – it was folded upright within a shower and not used for several weeks. During that time it seized up from limescale during normal shower use, and simply could not be opened again.

However, the seat is of such a good quality (if expensive), that I bought another one. I must remember to keep this one moving.
