20 Best Foil Shaver For Men (2023 Updated)

I received a Braun Series 9 Pro 9477cc Electric Shaver as a free sample from PINCHme for my honest review. This was my first foil-type electric razor I have ever used and I am continually impressed on how well it works after 3 weeks of use.

It provides a close shave without irritation I often get from the rotary-type shavers I have used in the past. I have very coarse and thick facial hair and this cuts through very well. The product states it will shave through up to 7 days worth of growth, I could see that if you have finer or more sparse hair than I do, but as for my facial hair, I would say anything more than 4 or 5 days should be trimmed with the included trimmer rather that going right after the growth to avoid some uncomfortable pulling.

The cleaning station is awesome and works great, no issues there. Manual cleaning is really easy as well, not having to worry about parts flying out while you do it like rotary shavers. The shaver seems well built and sturdy, we will see how it does long term.

The charging case is a nice bonus if you need to bring it along for travel (it is a lithium battery so you may need to see if you can bring it with carry-on or not). There are many positives to be had here, I will point out a few negatives I have noticed.

One is that you cannot use this while it is on the charger, as it is a safety feature since this can be used in wet applications (in shower or using shaving gel and creams. Really just a minor inconvenience, just need to remember to keep it charged up.

The real major issue is the cost (not a real issue for me as I received it as a sample) looking around it typically retails for over $250+ depending on features. It works well and if you need to have a daily or every other day shave this would make sense, but if you only need to do a touch up here and there you would have to weigh if that cost is worth it to you.

All said I would say this is a well made shaver that seems to tick all the boxes for me (smooth shave, little to no irritation, easy to maintain and sturdy) so with that I would definitely recommend it.

For the first time ever, an electric shaver that impresses and works well for me. I may never have to wet shave with a regular razor again (kind of)! I’ve tried Norelco, Remington, and Braun electric shavers in the past and they never shaved that close and always irritated my skin with terrible razor/shaver burn.

Not this one! I was not expecting much but was blown away the first time I used it. It shaves so fast and comfortably and close, with almost no effort. My skin is very smooth after shaving with this, but I find I do shave to shave every other day, where with regular wet shaving I could go up to 3 days between shaving for work.

But shaving with this is so fast, easy, and convenient that it’s still better. The charge also seems to last forever. I’ve been using it for 6 weeks and the battery indicator is still showing a completely full charge.

The cleaning and lubricating base is also a great accessory for disinfecting and extending the blade life. Speaking of blade life, it’s recommended to replace it every 1. 5 years, which is much longer than I expected.

So many electric razors want new blades every 3-6 months. The only drawback I’ve experienced is shaving with it while having a beard. It’s a bit difficult to see and maintain the edges of my beard with this shaver.

Which is the only reason I still wet shave occasionally, to more precisely maintain the shape and edges of my beard. If go back to being completely clean shaven, this shaver is all I will ever use. Like I said, it’s the first electric razor that really works for me.

I would recommend it without reservation. It is worth the price.

After using a 7-series Braun shaver for years, I was surprised how well this new 9-series cuts through longer beard hair. The design seems tailored to that task. My series-7 actually still gives a closer and more gentle shave.

It is better than the 9-series for cleaning up short stubble – for example, daily shaving. The 7-series never pulls my hairs when I’m shaving from 1-3 days of stubble. However, this new 9-series has painfully caught and pulled my beard hairs multiple times at every use! Ouch! I’m starting wonder whether I received a faulty cartridge, or the design of the cartridge is poor.

It pulls my hair every time, no matter what length my beard is at – even 1-2 day stubble. It pulls more if the beard is longer, even though it makes short work of cutting down a longer beard. Braun, unless this is a known design flaw, I’d appreciate it if you would send me a new replacement cartridge.

Perhaps that would fix the problem? Shaving with such an expensive shaver should not be painful… The Powercase is large, but still convenient enough for travel and it works well.

I have used Braun razors for more than 20 years and have had 3 different models during that time. I have been happy with them overall. My Series 5 died last week and I was about to get another one. This Panasonic went on sale for $120 so I decided to give it a try and return it if I didn’t like it.

WOW. What a night and day difference. The Braun isn’t even in the same league. Very close and smooth shave. It took far less time because you have to make less passes than with the Braun. It got my difficult neck area closer and smoother than anything in the past.

I have always shaved my head with a blade because the Braun’s never got near close enough. I tried the Panasonic and it got AS CLOSE as a blade, quickly and with great comfort. I was amazed. Cleaning is a snap and took about 30 seconds.

The razor is very quite and fits my hand perfectly. It glides over my face and head with no effort. I can’t say enough good things about this razor, and it is a tremendous value at $120.

Pros – Excellent razor. Closest shave I have ever had. Fast and easy shave due to excellent blades. Cons – Requires a bit of maintenance. You need to run the “cleaning program” every day (personally I do it every other day).

Some water and a cleaning solution shoots up into the case and cleans the razor once activated (1 pack of solution is provided for one month – available on Amazon sold as a pack for a reasonable price).

This seemed like a bit of a pain at first, especially changing the solution every month, but the razor looks brand new and is working like it was just out of box many months later, so I think it’s worth it.

Note – the first ten minutes of the cleaning process are VERY NOISY. The last 60 or so of the drying process aren’t too bad. Don’t expect to clean this razor before you head off to work if your partner is within 25 yards.

It’s like waking up to someone vacuuming your pillow.

I have the Norelco, a Braun and this Panasonic. The panasonic shaves the fastest and closest. Some complain about pulling, but none of them are perfect. This one is as smooth shaving as either of the others.

Looks plasticy, but it is pretty solid. Easy to clean. The norelco sheds hairs when sheding. Haven’t had this with the Norelco. The Braun is good, but sometimes leaves hairs. None are perfect, but this is the best deal by far.

It’s as good as the top of the line Braun and 1/2 the price.

Not the five star and best shaver. Remington had the best shaver and I have used them for years. Quality is not the same. The dual foil does not cut close. I would consider another shaver. I am disappointed after this many years with this brand it has dropped off in quality with the models the past few years.

I got this and instantly was happy with it. It hasn’t let me down yet. I have been wanting to try a cordless shaver for some time but have been worried about battery life, this has an amazing battery life.

Leaves a close shave so if you forget a day it hardly noticed if at all. The cut is smooth that you don’t even feel pulling which also is amazing because I mean who wants to have hair pulled when getting ready in the morning.

The features of this shaver are that of a much high priced product which is the biggest thing you can ask for. All in all it’s a great product and will be getting more of them in the future.

This foil design lets you get right up close and personal without cutting you ! It’s amazing. I absolutely love this shaver , it is the best one I have ever used. I used this completely dry , I used it in the shower , and I used it with foam.

This is 100% waterproof. It only takes five minutes to charge and a charge last 60 minutes ! There is even an attachment for stubble. Very innovative and top of the line shaver !.

Braun have always been a brilliant, quality brand in the world of shavers. Made in Germany, you know it is going to have superb engineering, and the Braun 8467cc is no different. Note that this is a shaver, NOT a trimmer, so make sure you realise you are purchasing a shaver, which will be for clean shaves.

As soon as you hold the shaver in your hand, you can feel the quality. It has a good weight to it, but not too heavy, and it just feels really comfortable in your hand. 5 in 1 Smartcare System: Smart Programs Cleans Hygienically Lubricates Charges Dries Actively Dont be fooled by the 5 in 1, This isn’t a 5 in 1 shaver where it has multiple functions, it is the 5 in 1 smart care system, which is in reference to the cleaning system (more on that later).

So when unboxing the shaver, it comes in a great quality travel/protective pouch, it zips up so keeps the shaver snug. For years now I have had at least stubble, or a beard, so to put this shaver through its paces, I grew my beard to about 5-6mm (not that long I admit, but a good test for a shaver) The shaver glided over my skin amazingly, shaving every bit of my beard with ease.

The swivel head glides across the contours of the face amazingly well, leaving not part missed or leaving you having to go over it many times causing shaver burn. You have the option to use this shaver dry, or with shaving foam, so if you have particularly sensitive skin, using shaving foam/cream/oil will do just fine with this shaver.

The precision trimmer that flips up from the back is great too, to tidy up sideburns and edges. When you are finished with shaving you sit the shaver upside down in the cleaning station. its not the quietest cleaning station, but it does the job perfectly, cleaning the blades and shaver head ready for its next use.

Keeping the shaver clean is so important to prolong its life and lubricate the blades, so they stay sharp. 1 full charge gives you 60 minutes of use, and because it uses a lithium-ion battery, there is a 5 minute quick charge; so this is super convenient if you forget to charge your shaver.

The shaver comes with a cleaning solution cartridge so you’ll have to buy refills for this. it should last around 4-6 months. There is a clever display on the station to ket you know its cycle etc. So all-in-all this shaver is superior to any I have used in the past; it has the highest of quality built in, and the cleaning station will enable the shaver to last for years to come.

Although this shaver is on the pricey side, it is worth every penny knowing that it will last a long time, and gives the best shave I have ever experienced from an electric shaver.

This is a game changer for me. I have stubble/beard but always like to trim my neck to give a defined line. I usually just use the beard trimmer to create the line and never clip too short as I get a rash very easily.

Having used this Braun series 5, it gives me a close shave as I would get with a wet shave and gives me no irritation or rash whatsoever. It is very smooth and gives fantastic results. Whether being used in the dry or in the shower, the results are always amazing.

The battery life is very good and seems to charge quickly, there are led indicators on the front to tell you how much charge it has which are handy. The precision trimming tool is also handy to create the line if you do have facial hair.

The attachments are interchangeable very easily and also allow for very easy cleaning. The materials used feel premium and make for easy operation. All in all a great shaver.

I’ve used this once so far, and I’ve got to say it is very impressive. I’ve owned a few electric shavers before and they always promise a ‘close shave’ without really ever giving one, but this is by far the closest shave an electric has ever given me personally, although to be honest it’s not as smooth as when I wet shave using disposable razors, so may give it a go using shave gel next time and see if that gives better results.

Nevertheless, still very happy with the closeness. The precision trimmer works very well too, giving a nice, perfect finish to my sideburns. I must also say that I was surprised at how quiet it was whilst using it, I was expecting it to be louder.

Can’t comment on the battery as I’ve charged it up fully and used it once so far. I also found it extremely easy to clean after use, which is a bonus. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone, it really is a good piece of kit and comes in at a very reasonable and affordable price.

I am typically a disposable razor user but occasionally utilize electric shavers. I first tried this shaver out on a three-day-old beard and I typically shave off most of my facial hair. I would compare the closeness of this electric shaver to that of a what a typical razor can achieve while not shaving against the grain.

This shaver is water-proof and I was able to use it in the shower. It has comfortable rubbers grips on the side for easy handling. Normally, electric shavers do cause irritation on my face because I used them infrequently, but this shaver did not result in that irritation.

It did seem to take many passes to remove all my beard, more so than I was used to with electric shavers. This shaver’s battery seems to last longer than some of the other ones I have tried and doesn’t take long to charge.

I am usually able to get enough use out of it to complete a shave after only 5 or so minutes. This shaver was also very simple to clean and all that is required is to pop the head off the shaver and rinse it in water.

This shaver has interchangeable head options for precision trimming, thought I would’ve preferred for it to have a flip-up precision trimmer built into the back. All-in-all I would recommend this shaver.

I have been using it more frequently as it gets close enough to replace my razor, though I have to use it everyday whereas with a regular razor I’m able to use every other day when I shave against the grain.

I’ve been shaving with shaving cream and a razor for the last 10 years. I’ve been wanting to try an electric shaver for ease of use and convenience when traveling. I have thin facial hair and have trouble growing a beard so I rarely keep my facial hair for longer than a few days.

Usually, I shave with a razor and cream every 3 to 4 days and apply lotion afterwards. That typically takes 10 mins. The razor gives a very close shave obviously. This electric shaver cuts very close, but my new schedule with this electric razor is to do a dry shave and then apply lotion every 2 to 3 days.

The duration of my shaves has decreased from 10 mins (razor) to about 2 mins (electric shaver) so that’s been a huge benefit of switching. The battery life is fantastic; I charged it before a week long vacation and it did not need another charge until weeks later.

Next time I’m on travel, I won’t be packing the charger. It’s worth noting that my first shave with the electric shaver irritated my face, but Braun states that this is normal as your face adapts to a new method of shaving.

I can confidently say that this is true because, over time, the irritation is decreasing exponentially after each shave. It’s almost nonexistant on my 4th shave. Maintenance is minimal, though you still need be cognizant of when to replace the blades.

Braun recommends after 7-9 months depending on use. If you use shaving cream with the electric shaver, they recommend oiling the blades once a week. I go dry to avoid having to worry about that. Overall, extremely happy with this shaver though I wish I had the upgraded version that comes with the sideburns trimmer.

That would be handy!.

When I received this razor, I was very excited to test it out and see how it compares to my other shavers that I have. I took the product out of the box and the box design was very appealing. The colors popped and it was eye capturing.

There was little packaging inside of the box which was nice because one thing that I don’t like is a box that has more packaging than what the product calls for. I removed the shaver from the box and my first impression was that it was a very sleek design and that it was very light weight.

It honestly looked a little futuristic. I waited to shave a few days before I got this shaver because I wanted to have some scruffage to shave off. When I turned it shaver on, it was very quiet unlike some of my others that I have which made a very annoying buzzing noise.

I uncapped the protective cover and moved the shaver to my face, It started eating the stubble like a champ. I was immediately disappointed once the stubble was gone, the shaver did not give a “close” shave to get that 5 o’clock shadow look like I can get with my other shavers.

I literally had to go back over my neck with a regular razor to shave off what the shaver did not catch. All in all, I gave this product a 3 out of 5 because although it didn’t meet my expectations with it being a braun, I would still use it for a quick shave.

Before you buy the shaver carefully consider that the 4 in 1 SmartCare Cleaning Center that comes with it will expose the atmosphere of your home to an open, evaporating tank of alcohol and other chemicals.

Within 3 days of installing the product in my bathroom, we were unable to use the room because of the noxious fumes that the cleaning center had given off. The headache-inducing odor permeated our adjacent bedroom and spread through much of the house.

It was only after a full day of open windows and three outside-vented exhaust funs running full time that we were able to mostly dissipate the awful stink. The promotional materials do not disclose (of course) the faulty design of the cleaning center that allows the tank contents to be exposed to the open air which causes the pollution of your home air and evaporates away the cleaning product to force you to buy a replacement.

The materials also do not make clear that the cleaning center needs to occupy a significant space on your counter within safe reach of an electric outlet and where it will not be jostled. If the cleaning center is moved or tilted, it will readily spill the fluid contents on your counter.

Other reviewers have commented about the inadequate and incomprehensible instructions (if you can call them that). Believe their negative comments. The “instructions” consist of pictures only and are not nearly enough to communicate how to properly operate the shaver and cleaning center.

I had to spend quite a while on the phone with Braun and later watch online videos to understand how to use the cleaning center. The shaver itself was fine, though various reviewers have said it is impossible to clean adequately without using the cleaning center.

I would give the product a 0 if I could. I am grateful to Bed Bath & Beyond for facilitating a return of this product for store credit.

Got the opportunity to buy this product via Smartson AB for a well reduced price. Haven’t used an el razor for over 30 years so have nothing really to compare to, found it strange in the beginning but have got used to it now.

I am a bit lazy and don’t like shaving every day so it pulls a bit, but gives a good clean shave, good battery life too, a bit basic maybe and miss a trimmer but can recommend it if you don’t have too much beard.

Not happy. This is more toy like instead of quality shaving tool. Now stuck with something Ill hardly use. Does not shave well for a tool that retails more than $125.09

The Braun S3 Shave and Style (Model 310BT) is a good value wet and dry shaver for those who cannot afford the more expensive ranges e. g. Series 7, which can be over £100 more! It has two foil shaving heads, which Braun have trademarked “Sensofoil” (which look the same as previous foils so wonder if this is merely marketing), along with a cutting blade for longer hairs sandwiched between them.

This does have limited use as you cannot target longer hairs as the foil head get in the way. All three blades move independently of each other which is a bonus, and is a far cry from the conventional “fixed” version of old.

It also comes with a separate trimmer head that is easy to switch to, which is good for neat sideburns, or anyone wanting contouring. As an added bonus there’s also 5 attachments (1,2,3,5 and 7mm) for trimming short beards and stubble, though I am currently clean shaven so will use these in the future.

Performance: I only dry shave and found this to give a reasonable good finish, though nowhere near as good as a razor. The cutting experience was pleasant enough and it worked reasonably well. However, for me, the upper lip is not quite as smooth than other areas.

This shaver is also designed to be used wet, but I don’t use it that way. The cleaning of these is pretty much the same, so I wouldn’t rate it worse or better than other shavers. It boasts a 5-minute quick charge, which I did find extremely handy one morning given that I let it run down and though I had left it charging, but forgot to switch on at the socket! Overall I found it to be good value for the £30 it usually costs, and would make an excellent Christmas present for the unkempt man in your life! I would however recommend a Braun Series 6 or 7 if you have the budget for it.

I’ve waited a while until I’ve written this review as I wanted to make sure that the first shave wasnt a fluke. I had a well known shaver brand already that I had come to by recommendation. I’d seen no problem with it and was happy.

That is until I tried this braun. I have a tendency to not charge my shaver after every use due to growing my beard slowly, this means I often get to the point of needing a shave (for a night out mainly) and getting half way through and losing power.

The charge on the Braun is extremely quick and has saved me looking a little odd with half a shaved face or from being late. Also it is waterproof and has many attachments of which I’ve still not use all of.

All round this is the best shaver I’ve had and look forward to keeping for a long time.

The Braun S3 is a nifty piece of kit. Very lightweight. I was expecting it to be heavier in the hand but it packs a lot of power considering its light weight as well as the fast charge time. Speaking of charge time the 5 minute quick charge is fantastic.

Having forgot to charge it I was worried my schedule was going to be thrown out but 5 minutes later I was able to catch up and get the shave I needed. The contour edging was able to provide a smooth shave across my jaw with no snags at all.

It bends just the right amount without feeling loose. The same can be said for the flexible close shave blades that give the smoothness off a razor shave but with the added comfort of a hand held device.

The SensoFoil gave great comfort whilst shaving whilst the Middle trimmer really got close to the skin with no nicks. The fixings hold in place well and don’t feel like they would come off accidently like I’ve had with other devices in the past.

Things for improvement would be a UK charger in the box or the functionality of being able to use whilst on charge. The head of the device could be larger but all in all a lightweight and competent device for the task at hand.

There are so many models/numbers that it was a little overwhelming trying to decide which one to buy but after researching online I decided on the 9385. Amazing shaver! It used to take me 15 minutes to shave with my old Series 5 Braun but now it takes 3.

Light weight and quiet. My old one I could just take the cord and plug it in when I was traveling to recharge it so I was a little worried about not being able to do that with my new one. But not to worry.

On a recent trip I shaved every day for a week without recharging and it never even slowed down. It really holds a charge. The price seemed a little steep but after the first shave I was sold. If you can afford it I would definitely recommend it.

My husband always gets ingrown hairs when he uses power shavers. They never seem to get those little hairs that grow in the other direction but this razor has exceeded his expectations so far. He gets a nice close shave and it gets all the weird hairs, too.

I was nervous about spending so much money on this but its worth every penny to not hear him complain about ingrown hairs anymore. hahaha. I might try it on my legs one day. shhhhh!!.

This is my fourth Braun shaver. I began with the 7 series, then raised the comfort level with the series 9. All shavers provide a reasonably close shave, but the series 9 is considerably more comfortable.

Replacing the shaver head every 18 months as recommended does help with the comfort and result of the shave but is fairly expensive. My last series 9 lasted five years, with excellent results.

I’ve had this Braun shaver about three months now. It replaced a Phillips Norelco that I used for about 10 years. The Braun gives me much closer shave in half the time, so it’s easier on my face. My shaver before the Philips was so a Braun and I really liked it, but the battery stopped holding a charge after three or four years.

That’s why I went with the Phillips. It was a higher end model but never shaved as well as the Braun. The trimmer attachment works very well too for grooming. It has a hard travel case which is a huge improvement over the plastic screen protector that the Philips had.

The only reason I didn’t give the Braun 5 stars is because of the clunky and somewhat expensive cleaning cartridges. The Philips cleaning system had a reservoir that you filled yourself and the refill bottles of solution were pretty cheap.

Otherwise this is a great product and I have high hopes that the battery technology has improved.

I ordered this razor quickly on sale to replace my 7-year old Braun 7 Series. I am so glad I did not open the package. Return policy does not allow opened grooming products, which makes perfect sense.

After I ordered it I found out my brother-in-law has one that is under a year old. I tried his and was extremely disappointed in the shave and quality for a premium brand razor. It took far too long to get a close shave, the entire head is plastic, and you have to exchange the head for the trimmer each time! I can’t imagine these plastics parts lasting like my all-metal Series 7 with a daily exchange between the two heads.

My experience with Best Buy exceeded all my expectations. However, I do not recommend this razor. Would have been fine in my teen years. I just purchased the Braun Series 7, 790CC. That is the quality level I would expect from Braun.

I have been (with the exception of one year in the 1970s, using a Ronson shaver) a fan of the best-selling rotary blade shaver since 1955 (yes, since age 16). But the replacement blades in recent years for my ten year old rotary seemed to me to be of poor quality, leading to a less-than-close shave.

Fortunately, Santa brought me a Series 7 for Christmas (it was on my list), and all I can say is that I can’t recall a closer shave. ever. I love this shaver. It gives me an amazingly close shave in a very short time.

The self-cleaning gizmo is an added plus, making care of my Series 7 as easy as plugging the cleaning device in and pressing a button. But it is the shave that has sold me on Braun. Who says you can’t teach an old (83y) shaver new tricks? My rotrary is now in a closet drawer, the Series 7 taking its place in the bathroom.

Shaving is fun again. All I can say is, “Smoooth”!.

I had a Braun shaver for about 8 years. It was rechargeable and had the “renew” base with cleaning cartridges. I loved it, but it seemed that they stopped making replacement foils and cutters for that model, so it was time to move on.

I looked at the Braun shavers and I couldn’t really see spending almost $200 for a new one. I saw this special value pack and it looked like a good deal so I grabbed it. The shaver itself is still rechargeable and delivers a decent shave.

The clean and renew base isn’t like my old one, though. It doesn’t seem to have a “blow dryer” feature, so takes about 4 hours sitting in the base for the shaver to dry. Also, the old model the base not only cleaned the shaver, but charged it.

Now you have to clean it in the base, then put the cord directly into the shaver and charge it separately. Kind of inconvenient. I do like the travel shaver, though. Battery operated and seems like it will do the trick on a short trip.

Again, not a bad razor for the money, but missing some of the features on my old one.

Yeah, it is a good electric razor for home and a smaller battery operated buzzer for travel. The small one is about the size of a bar of soap, and I tried it first since it did not have to be assembled, plugged in, charged up, etc.

It does a very respectable job at shaving my face. I liked the way it was easy to use. The big razor was easy to assemble and charge. It does shave my face better than the travel one. I’d expect that.

The cleaning cycle is nice but it is quite noisy. Another thing is that the charger/cleaner base gives off a bright blue glow when it is plugged in. They could actually advertise this as a night-light.

My husband tells me that this shaver works well and gives him a nice close shave. He does not have heavy/fast growing facial hair. He likes the lubricating /cleaning feature after each use. He did say he had to adjust to it coming from a rotary electric shaver (Norelco) which stopped working after 4 years of light use! I ordered it for his Christmas present because of the great deal online.

Walmart stated that it would not arrive by the 24th. I ordered it on the 20th and they said it was scheduled to arrive on the 31st. To our pleasant surprise it arrived on Christmas Eve! I was so happy that my husband could open his present on time! My daughter said that Santa was responsible for making it come on time.

Awesome!! Thank you Walmart!! It also came with a bonus shaver for travel. My husband is very happy with the shaver.
