20 Best Fly Rod Travel Case (2023 Updated)

Works as described, holds a rod and reel setup for a 9ft 2pc fly rod, pouch can accommodate various reel sizes. Hard PVC case protects rod and soft zip pouch holds reel in place. Note: the reel could still get damaged if something crushed the pouch part of the case, as this area is not PVC reinforced, but it does seem like it’s pretty safe from drops, and is definitely safe from scratches/bumps.

Overall would recommend for travel!.

I bought this because I like to take more than one fly rod in my drift boat. This protects my rods and reels and it is the perfect size to store in the boat. Easy access to get the rod and reel out.

Was a little hard to find the 2 piece rod case in the shorter length. I had already returned one for being too long. This one is much nicer looking as well.

Great value, half the price of other name brand cases. Sturdy, carried 2- 9 foot salt water rods, fly boxes, reels, and gear safely, checked and received after multiple transfers flying to Dominican Republic.

This item is well constructed with lots of padding, adjustable dividers (great feature), rust-resistant zippers, many storage pockets, handle and removable shoulder strap. Plenty of room for rods, reels, bait, tackle and gear.

Excellent product. Nearly indestructible, and very versatile Rather than buying numerous rod sleeves I used a fleece blanket to layer/wrap the rods into a bundle and it worked fine. Keep the overall diameter in mind and fill in spaces with reels and fly boxes as they fit.

One word of warning, TSA is not very friendly in most cases, be sure you use TSA approved locks and be sure the configuration you use allows them to fully open and twist the top off. I found that two short cable TSA locks in each side, with a third that slipped into the to loops allowed them all the access they needed.

Prior to that I had used a looped cable which they will simply removed cable or cut it if it doesn’t open easily, even if it is secured using a TSA lock. I also use printed address labels and Airport codes for each flight under two layers of packing tape to aid the baggage handlers, then pull them off at the end of each flight rather than using a marker on the case, Note to Mfgr – add a slip pocket for address and flight codes to the exterior.

The jumbo airliner is awesome for flights to destinations where a telescoping rod or a multi piece rod just won’t cut it. I wrap the tips and the end of the rods in towels while in the rod sleeves.

Then I use rod wraps to keep them tight together to minimize any chance for a guide to break. Thanks Plano!.

This is the best case to take when flying. Sure some airports make you pay an oversize fee if you have it extended too far, but if it keeps me fishing. I could care less. I strap it to the top of my car with no issues.

The case is made of a plastic thick enough to withstand the pressure from the ratchet straps. I put 7 8′ rods inside and I stuff a towel in the top where the tips are for protection. I also use rod socks.

If you’re shy and don’t like attention. don’t buy this. Everyone stares and asked questions. But if you’re committed to fishing, drag this beast around the airport with pride! Tight lines my friends.

I placed a large order but upon arrival a few items were missing from box. I ordered 3 sets of 3 solar fence lights but only 1 box of 3 lights arrived. I am missing 2 boxes of 3 lights. The set of ss counter gap covers that go between the oven and counter top were not in box.

Lastly, the media storage bags in damask were also missing. I am returning set of 6 snack trays. They are tiny!! They look bigger in catalog. I love everything else.

It threw me. off when it was hallow. I figured it was sturdy and the poles wouldnt bend. I didnt know u had to fill it yourself. I have no idea what I can put in there that will fill it but not be too heavy I googled it after I found out and some people said put a chair.

We use our boat so we dont bring chairs. So I’m not upset we LOVE the idea. Just wished it was more sturdy. Our purpose was to have no more broken poles and we havent found anything to put in the middle to prevent this from happening.

I did read through the other reviews before I purchased this but thought I would give it a try regardless. I was as disappointed as others were. This does not stand on its own. If it had some inside reinforcement, the product would be great.

Works fairly well. Has nice soft interior around the reels. Keeps rods together and safer in the car with dog and kids in it. Only down side is any crank bait will almost assuredly hook into the fleece.

But not many covers wont.

I don’t like pulling reels off of rods for travel. Some guys, it doesn’t matter. I just don’t like like the idea of rounding up components for temporary assembly and then disassembly. The most ‘disassembly’ I do is limited to two-piece rods making them about half their length.

And, that’s the feature I like most about this case: I can shorten it for storage in a small car or trunk using the Velcro strip. If the rod isn’t a two-piece, this case is still better than being without one.

Five light or ultra light action rods with reels (500’s and 1000’s) might fit fine in this. But, fitting three of anything north of 1500 reel size will be awkward. Still, it’s a good value.

Nice light weight case. Should be real good on heavier rods, not so much on light and ultralight rods due to the heft up front. I like it has velcro up front in case your rod is shorter. You can fold it a bit and hook and loop.

It will work for spinning setups but I feel it’s made for baitcasting. A little tough to slide multiple setups in and out though. Probably hold 2-3 spinning setups comfortably.

Bought this for my Boy Scout to use while travelling to Boy Scout camp. It is very solid to protect the pole. There was room for him to put his 1 Zebco pole, his fishing gloves, a small tackle kit, and his fishing pliers inside.

Just purchased this rod holder and it does hold the rod and reel ok,the padding and general construction was substandard at best,in fact some of the stitching around the reel portion of the case missed the seam completely and I had to restitch it right out of the box.

Actually the more I think about it no stars would be a better ratting.

Definitely not a high quality rod case and not designed by fisherman. The tube was lined with plastic which I removed because my flies would get caught. Once I removed the plastic and reinserted the tube everything works ok.

I bought this for a week long camping trip to Minnesota. I was skeptical on how many rods it would hold, how well it would protect my rods, blah blah blah. Typical particular equipment concerns. I was able to fit four 6’+ rods and my son’s 5’ rod in there with no issues.

Both ends are padded, so I just flip flopped which end of the rod went in and they all fit just fine. I took the reels off and placed them in my carry on baggage. All rods made it back and forth just fine.

The locks and latches on the tube stayed secured. If you’re on the fence, just buy it. It’ll do just fine.

The Plano rod case easily fits 2 rods and that it can be adjusted to different lengths is a plus. Used TSA approved locks to lock down the cap and the adjustment ring. Just used on a Mexico fishing trip this past November.

This rod case works perfectly for my 2-piece surf rods with large diameter line guides as well as for my son’s 1 piece 8 footer when the vehicle roof top rod carrier is not an option. It is easy to adjust the length and lock it into place.

This case is exactly what I needed, and was only found on Walmart Online. The description online was accurate, the pick-up process at the store was quick and easy, but for some reason the location for store pick-up was not not available to the Walmart store closet to me.

If youve got a lot of money tied up in your fishing rods, you dont just want to throw them into the backseat or trunk of your car. Enter the Bazuka and Bazuka Pro rod cases. Both cases will accept a 68 rod, with the Pro model accepting upto a 100 long rod.

If you Velcro strap the rods with the eyes facing out, they slide right into the case with no damage. If you dont use Velcro, the rods will rub up against one another, but the rod tips will be safe. Some people use refrigerant insulation for additional protection, me included.

I would suggest removing the reels to nest the rods tighter together. The Crown Royal flannel bags make great reel storage bags, available on your favorite auction site.

The first thing I noticed about the Flambeau Rod Case was its size, which is impressive even at its shortest adjustment point. Appears plenty roomy enough to comfortably handle every rod I would take on a 10 day fishing trip, which is as many as 8 or 9 rods.

The second thing that caught my attention and frankly surprised me is this thing’s weight. Even empty this thing is not a flimsy light hollow tube that would be prone to blown around by the wind. That weight is due to thick walls, which are needed to protect the delicate rods inside.

I can’t imagine this thing buckling in the middle unless there is some serious deliberate attempt made to destroy it. So short of that type of treatment I would judge it to be suitable for traveling in any reasonable environment.

The ample handles allow a good balanced carry both horizontally or vertically. I would suggest a clip (if not a padlock) be always used when there are rods inside to assure the door stays closed. Good value.

Cheap insurance.

Site not user friendly, skips around a lot; does not present products you ask for. Once you find product, selection is poor, description are incomplete. Even when you try to order, not only is the product not ship-able, it’s not available in any store within 100 miles! If you own stock in this company, sell it quick!.

I should have bought this product years ago. I travel 2-3 times a year to fishing destinations and struggle to stay within the weight maximum for stowed luggage, partly because of the weight of the rod tubes.

This case will give me 10-12 lbs. of room for things like an extra pair of wading shoes, for example. I learned about this product on a recent trip to Andros Island. A lot of the fishermen had them and liked this one in particular.

I am looking forward to using it! I am not sure I will use the outside pockets for leaders or something because they seem to be somewhat exposed to the elements,but I might.

Ive traveled lots with this case and its excellent size for several rods, reels and fly boxes. All you need in addition to a carry case for your waders and boots. Ive added some fishpond straps to the sling mounts for my 48 rod tubes, which I carry 2 strapped to the Dakota! Excellent quality product and well thought out design!.

I bought this for one of my grandsons. He loves it a lot. He has not used it. He had a snowboard accident. He goes to Hawaii at the end of the month and is very much looking forward to using it then.

If you carry a 4 piece fly rod out into the field, you need something like this to protect your investment. We regularly hike in about a mile and a half in to our semi hidden salmon fishing spot. That hike takes us over a couple steep ridges.

Dragging fish on the way back, there’s been more than one fall that did in a fly rod or two. Thanks to a couple of these cases, we no longer have that issue. We may break a leg, but not a fly rod. :).

The Cortland 4pc Fly Rod & Reel Carrier is a great buy for the money. It fits my 9ft 4pc fly rods perfectly. It does not have divider sleeves inside, so a rod sock is best used for the three pieces not connected to the reel.

I look forward to many years of service from this product.

This would have been the perfect case for my 3 piece 3 weight, except it didn’t fit. The key piece of information that is missing. The length of the inside of the case is 30″. Up to you if you want to put a 30″ section of rod right up against the ends of the case; you can, but I wouldn’t.

A 29″ length of rod would leave you with 1/2′ of cushion / absorption in case you smack the one of the ends of the on something.

I purchased this case in store to try and accommodate a 9 ft 2 piece fly with a small fly box, but my rod stuck out about an inch. I was hoping I’d be able to squeeze in my rod since the tag says the measurements are 54.

5″ x 9″ x 3″ but the inside measurements are more like 53″ length and 2. 5″ diameter. Other than that, it looks and felt like a quality rod tube. I ended up exchanging it for the longer White River Fly Shop Fly Rod And Reel Case (SKU: 2432831).

I would have rated this rod carrier 5 stars except that the tube itself is too small for all but one of my fishing rods. To be fair, the website stated the diameter of the tube but I have 5 2-piece fishing rods and all of the guides are too tall.

Another 1/4″ in diameter and they would have all fit. Loved the construction but I can only use it for 1 of my fishing rods.

A little bit bulky/heavy but not bad. Sufficiently well made and constructed with durable materials to protect a nice rod. I like that I can keep the reel on it when it’s stored and it seems to offer sufficient protection against minor bumps or torque on that.

This is the second TFO rod & reel case that I have purchased. The first one is still doing its job with an 8wt TFO rod & reel. It’s a 9′ 4pc rod with Lamson reel. 3pcs in soft sack slide in and then the 4th piece with the reel attached to the rod seat slide right in.

The fleece lined reel cover stays attached to the tube and is zipped up with a quality zipper that has worked flawlessly. I bought this second case for a 4pc TFO 6wt that I recently acquired and it appears to work equally as well as my first.

The tube has a nice cordura type covering with a carry strap. Unit feels very strong and durable, Highly recommend for any 4pc 9′ rod. —Randy.

I bought this case to protect a new Sage 4-piece fly rod, and I’m confident it will do the job. Heavy duty protection all around the rod storage area and a well protected reel housing as well. These guys quite obviously are fishermen that know what they’re doing.

I really like this rod case. After trying a cheap rod case on Amazon, that I later returned, it just felt like it didn’t really protect my fishing rods. I found this case and it was like night and day! I fit both of my 7′ 1″ 2 piece rods in the case and the rods feel really protected.

I also liked the design of this case in that I have room for my reels and a couple spools of line. I just got the case so I can’t really say much about durability. It looks like it’s made well and the only possible problem I can see down the road would be the zipper closure, but again it’s too early to even tell that.

I like the case, look forward to using it, and would recommend.

Overall great case, with lot’s of padding all around and large padded reel storage area. I was looking for a durable padded case for my 6′ 2 piece spin rod, and while this is a bit on the long side, it’s the shortest one I could find and the price is pretty good.

The tube is solid and the padded compartment will hold a reel and a lot of other tackle/gear/stuff. Good to have with a carbon rod and nice reel when you don’t want it bouncing around loose in your truck/trunk.

I am very satisfied with this case. I use it to stow and transport my 6’6″, 2-piece spinning rod with attached reel. The only thing I would change is extend the zipper down the side of the bag where the rod could be inserted straight into the tube rather than having to finesse the rod around the material.

Works okay with a short rod but might be a problem with a longer rod. I use two pieces of soft foam to place in the butt of the tube to keep the rod snuggly in place. A rolled up towel could serve the same purpose.

I strongly recommend this case. You won’t be disappointed.

I love this case. I bought it to house my saltwater and bass rods. The reel compartments hold large soles reels snugly and there isn’t a ton of bouncing around. I have 4 8-10wt rods in their sons and there is room for a couple more.

I thought the backpack straps would be overkill but they are awesome. When I’m guiding I load my truck up at odd hours and I load my rod case and my bag of “work” gear last – usually with a coffee in hand to lock up on the way out.

I love that I can throw it on my back. Overall it’s light, we’ll made, and I think it should last through a decade of hard use. I have an older competitors version and the zippers aren’t as high quality and it doesn’t have that “flap” over the reel compartment – that’s a nice touch.

I’m looking forward to using it for solo boat shuttles as I don’t like to leave my rods and reels alone while I bike back from dumping the truck & trailer. I’ll throw it on my back for the bike shuttles when I’m alone.

Made my first trip with the vault with 4 saltwater rods, reels, and everything that goes with it. It was to a remote location, and I carried this on the plane with me and never got any questions about it from TSA or the flight crew.

What an upgrade over trudging around with 4 or 5 rod tubes. I loved it. It would be really nice if it had locking zippers in case you had to check it. Also, I’m not sure you can really get 8 rods in here, and I couldn’t get 8 large saltwater reels, but it still hauls a lot of gear.

I flipped and flopped more about buying than the head cook at IHOP. At the end of the day I’m glad I picked it up! I may look like a business executive walking around with this in tow, but I’m a fly fisherman, aren’t we all a little hotsy-today.

Worse yet, I’m a euro-nympher, the most uppity fly fishermen there are (it accommodates a 10 foot, 4 piece euro rod). So yes, this thing is great! I love it. It holds and protects 6 of or my most cherished fly rods and reels.

It converts to a backpack when I’m slumming with my buddies. Overall, a fantastic well thought out product. Better than the competitor offerings. Even has my fly fishing buddies thinking about purchasing a couple.

After shopping my local stores I couldn’t find a rod case to fit my two piece 9 foot 8 weight redington rod and reel so I hopped on Ebay. Found this item and liked it better than the other options I came across and length was a bonus as I didn’t want a 60″ rod case that allowed the two 4.

5 foot sections (54″) to slide too much in the case potentially damaging the rod tip. Item stores and protects my investment as it should and is perfect for what I needed. If you got a two piece 9′ rod, I would suggest this item.

The materials and construction are also very nice and doesn’t feel cheap at all. Highly recommend this item.

Nothing fancy here but does the job at a very reasonable price point. I wish the mfg. would add a small Hand carry strap so the case could more readily be hand carried by grasping with just 1 hand, instead of just having a shoulder strap.

Best Rod/reel case I have used. I have numerous others, but this one is definitely the best. One of my guides suggested this case after we were swearing and having a hard time getting out my lighter weight rods out of brand O case.

Even though they make a very good case, the way you stack your rod in this case makes it much easier to pull them back out without having to dig or shake them out.

Excellent reel-on rod and reel case. A vast improvement over Simms’s earlier offering. Sturdy. Quick and easy to operate. And although it says it fits 9 ft rods, my 9 1/2 foot rod also fits easily.

Happy wife , happy life. Just saying. I am very luck because my wife also fly fishes with me. I am right hand retrieve. she is left hand retrieve. That being said we have two of these. One for her , one for me.

At first glance, this is a nice, well-made case. And it is. However, there are two problems. First, the end opposite of the reel does not have a hard cap, but only the cloth. While this is a minor complain, I’d rather have the added protection a cap would provide.

Second, and most important the case does not have a divided liner for the rod sections. I got around this problem by using the rod sock that came with the rod for the three smaller sections. The positives: price, silky smooth zipper, adequate protection, and overall not a bad looking case.

Thankful that I could even find a three piece rod case. As I have found with several White River products they tend to be adequate but but lack any extra features which makes for a competitive price point I’m sure.

The interior padding is less than protective, and it would have been ideal to have had separate interior sleeve pockets. Having said that, the case is functional and not unattractive. I only carry one rod in it which allows for enough room to safely carry all three pieces.

Pay for expedited shipping because the free shipping took three weeks.

Good quality, and of course convenient to be able to have the rod rigged and ready to go when you get to that special body of water. My only complaint is the length. I picked this case based on the specs of my fly rod.

The site said I needed the model that was 5′ long, but my 2-pc, 2-wt Sage is only 4′ long when torn down. Otherwise, a purchase I’m very happy with and would recommend to others.
