There are a variety of household fly repellents available on the market. Many contain chemicals that can be harmful to humans and pets, so it is important to read the labels carefully before purchasing.
Some natural fly repellents include essential oils such as eucalyptus, lemon, or peppermint. These can be added to a diffuser or sprayed directly onto surfaces. Vinegar is also effective at repelling flies, and can be used as a spray or added to a bowl of water.
Fulfilled by our friends at The Natural Patch Co The world’s #1 all-natural non-spray shield to protect you and your family against mosquito bites. This is a pack of pure magic. A scientifically formulated and tested blend of highly effective all natural essential oils that have been used for hundreds of years by indigenous communities to repel mosquitos.
Say goodbye to mosquitos. The natural way Designed in conjunction with Monash University in Australia along with a global team of entomologists mosquito experts BuzzPatch has become the world leader in safe natural non-spray mosquito repellents.
The Pyranha Insecticide has a triple action feature, making it a great insect repellent for horses. It effectively eliminates, repels and conditions the animals against biting insects. It gives an easy and quick application, can be used directly on animals and inside their stable.
The insecticide quickly eliminates and hold off insects like stable flies, gnats, house flies, face flies, horse flies, mosquitoes, horn flies, deer flies and others. Once applied to hair, the spray will give an eye catching shine with citronella scent.
The product can also be sprayed to animal quarters making it more effective and convenient. The Pyranha Insecticide can be sprayed for 3 seconds on each side. Carefully spray on legs, neck, belly, back and sides.
A sponge or clean cloth must be use when applying near the eyes, or cover the eyes while applying repellent as spray. Great for do it yourself pest control!.
I’ve tried and use a lot of different fly sprays. I prefer using more natural based ones as my horses are in full turnout and when they get sprayed with fly spray, more often than not, half of it lands on me due to the wind etc.
and I’ve yet to find a fly spray that last for the 14 days like they all claim to, most all I’ve tried, at best, only last a few hours. So, while I typically use the natural version of fly spray for a healthier alternative for me and my horses, I do keep a can of this fly spray on hand for when my farrier comes.
This is the only fly spray I’ve found that keeps stable flies away from my horses legs for at least a couple of hours. I spray my horses legs down with this before my farrier comes and it keeps them nice and quiet while they get their hooves trimmed.
During the rest of the time I typically just use fly boots/fly masks on them and natural fly spray, but I will spray them with this spray on days when the flies seem especially bad. Of the options available out there, for a fly spray that is not natural, I feel this one provides better results than others.
Over the past several years, I’ve purchased and tested a dozen different fly repellents. And they’ve ranged from satisfactory to laughable. You know, when you spray your horse’s legs and the flies don’t even budge.
How’s it supposed to repel if direct spraying doesn’t phase them? I’ve also tried going the natural route; pleasant smelling but they just haven’t done the trick. None of the ones I’ve tried have been inexpensive.
And in spite of their claims to last for days, the best you can hope for is hours of relief — which is fine. I don’t expect miracles. I keep coming back to Pyranha for its effectiveness and value. I prefer the aerosol for legs and body and then use their Wipe N Spray on the face (applying by hand to avoid eye contact).
I’ll probably continue to try new products to ensure I’m using the best available. But Pyranha is at the top of my list.
I’ve used these Pyranha products (yellow) for years and I’m about 90% satisfied with their effectiveness in repelling barn flies, mosquitoes, and even Deer Flies and large Horse Flies! It has a non-objectionable odor and is easily applied.
I use the Wipe N’ Spray at the barn and the aerosol at shows. The aerosol works great as a final touch up to repel flies just before entering the show arena and does not ruin the show-ready haircoat.
The Wipe N’ Spray is effective in the stall and on limited turnout. I have not found them to be as effective on sweaty horses or to last for days as some others claim. They are pricey but overall I would recommend.
It’s a beautiful sunny day at the park watching the little league and you hear the sounds of “Slap!” “Slap!” “Slap!” but that is not the sound of contact between a baseball and a bat but the sounds of people slapping their arms and legs trying to get mosquitoes from biting.
Stop the self torment and spend your days enjoying the outdoors rather than hiding from the non stop buzzing all around your ears with Murphy’s Mosquito Sticks. This natural insect repellent keeps pesky mosquitoes away so you can have fun all day with your friends and family.
Make sure you’re only hearing the sounds of summertime fun and keep the mosquitoes at bay with Murphy’s Mosquito Sticks.

Reviews From Real Customers
We live in TX where mosquitoes drive us crazy almost year round. I don’t like the smell of Citronella candles and thought I’d give these a try because of the Cedar scent. Each stick lasts about 2-2. 5 hours and they definitely keep the mosquitoes away.
They smell like a campfire. Be sure to get 2-3 of the little ceramic incense stick holders, too. They keep the stick standing straight and they will last longer and burn all the way to the bottom of the incense.
Perfect for a porch or patio area. The Murphy’s candle (with the cedar) works well, too.
I was shocked by how well these worked. We had a particularly bad mosquito season last summer and we couldn’t be on our patio at all in the evening without getting eaten alive. We lit on of these and placed it in a planter full of dirt on the ground and within minutes we had zero mosquitos on our patio and they stayed away for the entire time it was lit.
It was like magic! The scent was not particularly strong to me so it wasn’t bothersome to have it lit and one stick lasts a very long time. For folks who have had less luck with them – we did find that placing them up on a table made them less effective than having them on the ground.
I think it gives less coverage if they are up higher.
I was not expecting the nuisance of flying insects to almost dissapear from the immediate area the moment I lit one. I was really surprised pleasantly when i tried one on both my front and side yards at different occasions and different windiness.
Even with a nice breeze going in one direction only, this still worked pretty well. Looks expensive, but the burn time is nice and long. I have used the same one two-three times on some occasion. I like the idea, the convenience of just stick in the soil of a potted plant and forget it.
The RESCUE! Non-Toxic Disposable Fly Trap catches common nuisance or filth flies, hundreds of the most prevalent species including house flies, false stable flies, blow flies, blue and green bottle flies, flesh flies, face flies and many others.
Inside the trap is a bait that flies find irresistible. This attractant is comprised of food and feed ingredients, and other food flavorings generally recognized as safe. The attractant dissolves and activates when water is added to the bag.
Lured by the scent, flies enter the trap through the yellow top cap and drown in the water. Has been proven to catch up to 20,000 flies. RESCUE!’ s goal is to design, manufacture and market the safest, most effective pest control solutions available.
Our products are the result of exhaustive and ongoing research and development, decades of experience and a commitment to solutions that respect the environment without sacricing results. Established in 1982, RESCUE! pest management products have never used poisons or toxicants to kill pest insects.

Been using the Patio Shield(2) for the last couple of years around our patio and firepit. They work fantastic, but be aware of the following: The pads never last the 4 hrs. as claimed. We usually get about 2 to 2 and a half hrs.
TOPS. And that is ok by us, because they work so well. Just know the 4hr. claim is a dream, not reality. The fuel cels don’t last as long as claimed either, but have decent life, maybe about 6 hrs. ? Also note that the range, and effectiveness, of these things are directly related to wind, and distance to the units.
Meaning the less wind, and the closer you are to the units, the more effective they are. But overall this product is surprisingly effective. Once they warm up a bit the mosquitos disappear! Just remember, the required refills don’t last as long as claimed, and they do cost money.
Just ordered Qty 2, 300hr refill packs @ 20% off and free shipping with their Memorial Day sale so that is helping bring the cost down a bit! Great product and highly recommended!.

Feel like a legit killer with this model. One shot one kill. Roaches and flies alike. The black fly misfired jammed slot and lacked the velocity that this model has. I spent like 4 days unarmed after my old one didn’t work anymore and my new gun arrived.
In the duration it was misery. The little sob s seemed to know I was defenseless and mounted an all out offennlsive on me. Some big ass ones even, kind I’d never seen before. Was right on the job with my new cammo edition.
It was pure genocide for about an hour then they were gone. Haven’t been back except for a few stragglers. Thank you all.

Got flies? Be prepared! Every tack room tack box and horse trailer needs to include a jar of SWAT Fly Repellent Ointment as part of their fly control management solutions team. SWAT is a long-time barn staple.
Don’t be caught (or leave home) without it. This hardworking versatile formula is ideal for use around wounds sores scratches and abrasions to repel flies from landing. Horsemen also use SWAT to protect the eyes and ears of their horses (and dogs!) from those bloodsucking biting and nuisance flies too.
A little bit of SWAT ointment goes a long way so you can apply it daily for effective control against house stable face and horn flies. SWAT fly repellent is available in the original pink color (to help identify and locate wounds) and a clear formula (for the more discreet times like in the show pen).
Both forms are packaged in a handy 7 ounce jar perfect for use at home or to take on the road every time you travel. SWAT Fly Repellent Ointment is approved for use on horses ponies and dogs too! Bugs don’t fly with Farnam your partner in horse care.
Must have for the horrible destruction flies can inflict upon your dogs or other pets this is labeled for use on. It is a deterrent for more harm plus heals raw, bloody, and fly-born damage that’s a given in the hot and humid summer months.
It’s worth every cent, and it will do what nothing else can match. The dogs and let’s will shake their heads, but you will learn how much to apply and how much will be enough to sooth the awful looking damage flies inflict- upon their ears, and other parts.
It’s best to apply before the damage on the ear tips, but I’ve used on the worst cases with success and no long term scarring. You will not be disappointed in this brand or what it does for your pet family members.
I also suggest a fly spray, such as the Bronco brand for equines to spray the area and deter the flies and other nuisance pests beforehand and proactively. It’s best to have a several pronged approach for any type of pest.
It’s best to attack with several approaches that are as safe and effective in a balance. It’s always best to prevent, such as what a vet can suggest so best call or visit s vet to be sure when your pet is seeming sick or may need more attention for any ailments.
I have been using SWAT since it only came in the bubble gum pink color, so I was very happy when they decided to make it in the clear ointment! SWAT is an excellent product to protect open wounds from flies and gnats, and while I definitely prefer the clear version, I would have continued to use it in pink or clear.
My horse is very sensitive to fly bites, especially those under her belly and around her eyes and ears. Even though I put a fly mask on him, she still gets welts from certain kinds of fly bites. Gnats will find any little gaps to get in his ears and cause havoc.
I use SWAT around the eyes, ears, and other trouble spots to keep the insects at bay. In addition to fly spray and a fly mask, I feel confident that my horse is at less risk for bug irritation. It is a necessity to keep in my tack box whether for fly bites or to keep flies off of healing wounds.
SWAT really great to keep the bugs off irritated skin while it heals. It is also the only product I’ve found to keep those awful biting ear gnats away! It is the best product available. It works and the odor is not too strong.
The ointment is easy to wash off of applicators and hands but stays on horses for days. It is good stuff! I highly recommend it being part of your tack box as well!.
I have used Swat for several years. We have Great Pyrenees livestock guardians and the flies chew up their noses something awful. Because of their hair, their noses are the only problem area we have on them with the flies.
Until now, the only Swat I have used has been the clear ointment. It has a Vaseline-like consistency but it works great and lasts all day. I decided to try this original pink formula that was available from Chewy, which was the first time I had ever seen it.
I like this original pink formula better. It’s not nearly as greasy and I love the fact that because it’s pink, I can tell exactly where I’ve put it, therefore making sure their entire nose area is covered.
The pink doesn’t disappear, so they have pink noses all day but that doesn’t bother me. As far as effectiveness, I can’t tell any difference between the two formulas. Both last all day and do a fantastic job at keeping flies off the dogs noses.
Sawyer Permethrin actually kills ticks, mosquitoes, spiders, chiggers, mites, and more than 55 other kinds of insects. Permethrin is also effective against the Yellow Fever Mosquito, which can transmit the Zika Virus.
For use on clothing, tents, sleeping bags, and other outdoor gear. Providing a fantastic odorless barrier of protection, a single application of Permethrin lasts for 6 weeks or 6 washings. Using it on outdoor gear also helps reduce the mosquito population in your camp and prevents ticks from attaching to you.
This is what you were looking for. Afraid of spiders in your tent? Spray beneath, around, and on top of your tent, especially by your entrance. Sick of getting bit by XYZ, spray your clothing. Research suggests that spraying your shoes/socks is best practice for mitigating bites, so give that a try.
It’s safe for dogs, so just keep it out their eyes and that’s easy tick prevention. Spray will continue to have effects for 6 weeks or until washed 6 times (that’s absurdly durable and long-lasting).
I also love the multi-cap (one for spray, one for storage) setup. Lastly, the price is solid for how much you can get out of this especially when comparing to alternative methods. Ultimately, yes, this is what you were looking for.
Just posted this on Facebook for my friends, along with a link to this product. With tick season in full swing, this stuff is indispensable. Hand up your outdoor duds, give a nice spraying over (just slightly wetted, no need to soak) and let it dry.
Ticks, chiggers and skeeter will expire pretty much on contact. I use it in my dog’s bedding (fleas/ticks) and around windows and ceiling lights (Asian lady stinker beetles, ya don’t want to know) and it is amazingly effective.
I think it is much better on the bedding than on the animals skin or collar. One application per season. Applications to clothes will survive several trips through the washer (I don’t wash my bushwacking trousers until they really need it).
Safe for birds and mammals. Bad for insects and marine invertebrates. I use it indoors, except for a spring spritz on my bluebird houses before the occupants show up. LET IT DRY BEFORE USING OR TOUCHING.
This stuff is magic. You know it’s magic when you realize halfway through a hike that you haven’t been bothered by mosquitos and ask yourself why that is before finally realizing that you sprayed this Sawyer Permethrin on your clothes a few weeks ago and totally forgot about it.
And later that evening you get back to your car or tent, check yourself for ticks, and breathe a sigh of relief that you don’t have to go digging for your tweezer kit. This stuff is just that great. I bought one bottle, sprayed down my clothes, and took them on a test drive on a hike that nearly has me tapping out every time because of the pesky little mosquitos buzzing in my ear; much to my surprise, it worked and kept the darn things away from me for the most peaceful hike I’ve had in a long time! I bought a second bottle just for the sake of treating my whole activewear wardrobe with this stuff, and now I get to look forward to all of my future mosquito-free hikes.
The RESCUE! Non-Toxic BFTD Big Bag Fly Trap is baited for hundreds of fly species including house flies, false stable flies, blow flies, blue and green bottle flies, flesh flies, face flies and many others.
This trap contains a fast-acting fly attractant that starts working as soon as you add water. Food and feed additives are combined with other dried ingredients to make the attractant. Lured by the scent, flies enter through the yellow top cap and drown in the water.
It is intended for use outdoors and will help control the fly population outside before it ever becomes a nuisance inside. RESCUE!’ s goal is to design, manufacture and market the safest, most effective pest control solutions available.
Our products are the result of exhaustive and ongoing research and development, decades of experience and a commitment to solutions that respect the environment without sacricing results. Established in 1982, RESCUE! pest control products have never used poisons or toxicants to kill pest insects.
Works well at attracting flies, but has design flaw. The cap should be larger to help keep rain from getting in. Bag fills with water and makes it almost impossible to get cap pushed down, without it leaking all over the place.
Put the bag inside of a zip lock bag and two plastic bags. Somehow it still leaked and stunk up the whole area. The smell makes you nauseous. We decided to not use this product anymore. If it had a bigger cap that could act as a rain stopper, it might get a better review.
We had one bag where it worked like it should, all the others filled up from the rain making it so you can’t close the cap. I will say a skunk smells better than what we smelled when it leaked out.
I bought these to go in my son’s pig stall. Everyone else at the barn bought the dome fly traps. Seems like I’m the only one catching flies. The small bag only lasted 2 days in the stall before it was filled with dead flies and completely crawling with maggots.
I just bought 2 big ones and hung in the stall. Just beware, the smell is absolutely horrifying it is death warmed over. I have a stomach of steel but this bag definitely made me gag.

I have been using this since 2018 when someone told me about it. I bought a twin (slab) home that had an infestation of ants. We tried every product and none of them worked until we used TEMPO per recommended mixture for two quarts.
After spraying the outside perimeter right next to the cement and inside the garage including the garage apron the ants were gone in less than two weeks. I live in southern Minnesota so I use TEMPO in the spring and again in the fall and it really works!.
We had small ants when we moved into our patio home and someone recommended this product so we tried it. In less than two weeks the ants were gone entirely. We live in Minnesota so we use this in the spring and fall.
We spray around the outside foundation and inside the garage along the walls. We have found that 1/4 oz to one half gallon will do the entire areas. We have also done other people’s homes in our association.
My nephew worked as a bug guy and recommended this. I moved into a house that was cockroach infested. Landlord said he bombed 3 times but looked like the roaches were immune to the bombs. Anywho i ordered this and sprayed everything.
Next morning my floors and counters were covered with the dead bugs. My neighbors said they had roaches and bed bugs. Double yuck. I gave her a bottle of it and in 3 days she said there were no more bugs.
So i have been giving her a bottle every month and telling her to keep spraying bc i do not want any bugs in my house. I spray once a week and haven’t had any problems with bugs. I totally recommend this product.

We spend several months each year volunteering at a state park. The first time we volunteered as hosts, the volunteer coordinator suggested in our initial interview that we treat our clothes with Permethrin.
She had contracted Lyme disease in the past and encouraged us to take precautions since we would be working in the woods much of our stay. We took her advice then and have bought several cans since. We apply one can to about 3 – 4 outfits (shirts/pants/socks).
We have very few if any incidents of chiggers, ticks, and mosquitos which are prevalent in the park. The biggest selling point was watching a tick climb the pants leg of a friend who had sprayed his clothes.
The tick died and fell off before it made past his knee. We were sold. Since it is heat that degrades the performance of the treatment over time, we don’t put our treated clothes in the dryer to allow the treatment to last longer (about 5 – 6 weeks).
I would say we never work in the park without it, but we did make a mistake the first day back this year, meeting with park staff in untreated clothes. With the number of chigger bites after that one incident, we were kicking ourselves for being so careless.
This worked pretty well keeping the (no-see- ums) from coming through the screen on our tent. We had a problem at the same campground the year before an the little bugs came in and ate us up. Last time we used this and found a mess of dead ones all around therscreens.

I have had my thermacell and camo pouch for several years and I love it. I use it to duck hunt in Southwest Louisiana below Interstate 10 in the marsh. Where the mosquitoes are so thick if you just use spray the hover around your face so bad it makes it hard to see.
Three or us hunt out of a boat with a pop up blind. Me, my Dad, and my brother in law. I always sit in the middle, my dad on front deck with our dog on a attached platform, and my brother in law in the back by the gatortail.
I will get my thermacell started then clip it on the blind in front of me, in what seems like a minute or less the buzzing of mosquitoes in my ears are gone then I notice they are gone period. Then I ask my Dad & Brother in law if they are be bothered or bite by any and they say know.
I also have a patio light thermacell as t home for nights around the firepit and such. I absolutely love my Thermacell products and wouldn’t trade them for any other type or repellent. I know these work in the toughest mosquito infested hunting area there is, the marshes in south Louisiana!!!.
Been an avid south alabama swamp deer Hunter for years. There are many factors that determine a hunt. Sat through rain, sleet, and snow. Only thing that ever ran me off was mosquitos. I was given a thermacell as a gift.
It sat in my gear for over a year before I used it. First use I popped it awake in a wet hardwood bottom the air was black with those little blood suckers. In 5 minutes it totally cleared them out. Was not expecting that.
Now I own several. I always make sure everyone has 1. There is a dedicated pocket in my safety harness for 1. Always have 1 in my truck. And it’s my go to gift for anyone I know. Amazing product.

Love this stuff. We live in Central Fl, and my poor nearly bald horse sunburns. Plus the flies can be so aggressive that both horses legs swell up. The second horse developed a bad reaction to midges/of sweet itch and rubbed herself raw on every post and tree.
I have used this for years. Even tho it says it’s good for 14 days (12 days?) and is water and sweat resistant, it’s Florida. C’mon, this place is unnatural in its sun, rain, heat, and bug assaults. So I reapply every 3 or 4 days.
As I have to sneak spray the one cow with sweet itch because her ears are raw and no one is allowed to touch them, I probably use more than normally. Basically, I drop her feed, stand on a step ladder at her shoulder (she’s 17 hh) and while she’s daintily nibbling her feed I mist the air over her head and let it drift down on her ears and head.
Like applying fancy perfume. But more bug killery. (No worrying about dosing her feed too. Her head is big enough that it blocks LIGHT into her bucket. Spray hasn’t a chance. ) The other mare normally acts like being sprayed is going to murder her, despite having been sprayed at least twice a year for 14 years, and she actually stands almost sorta still when this spray goes on.
She’s learned it keeps the flies off. I soak her back really well for the sun block action, too. It works. Her skin is healthier, and her hair is softer and less fried. Anyway, highly recommend!.
I specifically bought this brand to use as it is one of the only ones that claim to repel ticks. The list of bugs that are supposed to. E repealed is exhaustive. I have been using for going on two years on my horse and although No product is 100% effective, it has been working very well.
I first bought the 32 oz and then the refill bottle. After a year I have replaced the sprayer on the bottle. There is no irritation to my horse and I see a marked reduction to the number of fly bits and have found no ticks ( which I did before switching to this product).
I am very satisfied with this and will continue to use daily during the fly season here in Florida.
In conclusion, there are many different types of fly repellents for houses, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Some of the most popular methods include using traps, sprays, and baits. There is no one “best” method for getting rid of flies, so it is important to experiment with different techniques to see what works best in your particular situation.
