14 Best Flex Shaft Rotary Tool (2023 Updated)

I bought this rotary tool with so many project around my house in mind. Not only was it easy to set up, but easy to handle as well and had exceptional power. It completely surprised me on how easily it shaved my German shepherds thick nails.

I finished in half the time than I expected and the attachment lasted the entire time. In fact, there were so many attachments included I needed to look at the manual to see what they were used for. Some weee easy to figure out.

I was able to do mini projects around the house that were quick and easy. The flex shaft made it super easy to handle. The variable speed was always set at the highest no matter what material I was working on, but that’s just my preference.

This small rotary tool completed every task I challenged it with ease and speed. I had no issues getting everything back in the case to store it away. When I bring it out next time, I am sure I can count on it to perform like it did the first few times I used it.

On a side note this was on sale. Definitely worth the price.

I am very pleased with this rotary tool kit. I do not need a rotary kit often so I did not want to spend too much on one but I wanted to get a set that was inexpensive yet good quality. This kit fits the bill.

I am actually impressed and it is better than I expected. Not only do I have everything I need, I have a lot of extra pieces that I can use for other projects in the future. The quality of each piece seems good and everything is sorted nicely in the case that it came in.

I am especially impressed with the flexible shaft. It has already come in handy with some work I am doing and it works well.

I ordered this product because of it’s competitive pricing compared to more well-known brands. I’m using it for some basic creative projects around the house. The rotary tool comes with so many different attachments and I have yet to explore them all but I will continue moving through them on new projects.

I think that I am most excited about the flex shaft that allows me to use the rotary in hard to reach places.

This is a great piece of kit. Very useful often when no other tool would fit the bill. We’ll made, quite robust, great extension for my Dremel drill.

Since I bought the chordless Dremel, it can be quite a beast to do some of ther more detailed work, so I invested in the 255 Flexible Shaft, and I am impressed with it overall. It is well made and sturdy and easy to use.

If I had one complaint it would be that I would have liked it to be slightly longer for comfort, but that is in no way a deal breaker.

It enables me to access smaller areas and the handle and shaft makes it quite maneuverable. So I like it as it makes each job easier to do and to do to a very high standard. The chuck feature on this model also makes it faster to swap bits over, so that is good.

Overall, this model Dremel and its assoc parts are great!.

I bought it as a replacement from the same tool that I bought last year. They work great but they don’t last very long.

Works great and way easier to hold. I find holding the dremel difficult for detailed work.

At first I was skeptical as to whether this attachment would actually be useful. I picked it up, and I’m glad that I did. It works well enough, and really shines when precision is what you’re looking for.

I would’ve liked to see an even smaller handle, but I’d imagine that it was hard enough for Dremel to dream up this product as is. Also, you will lose some rpm if the shaft is flexed too much, but that’s to be expected.

Overall, great product. if you’re willing to spend the money!.

Ok wen here we go, for the price cad of what 37$ great deal, pro’s unlike other lower cost rotory tools the flex shaft has held up quite well under load , the only issue i had was that i turned the unit on a few times and it would not run, one of the brushes was not set properly tge spring was bent inside the brush opening.

Another small problem is that the provided drill bits vibrate when running them, the reason was that the supplied dril bits were too long i had to cut them shorter that seemed to fix the problem. If you intend on buying a mini drill chuck for the unit and use it on the flex shaft you will need to trim down the plastic outer casing on the flexshaft tool holder or else the chuck will press against the tool holder when screwed to tight up.

The tool is well built, in past when i bought cheeper rotory tools the first thing that went was the ajustable speed control dial i have about 200 hrs on this tool the speed control dial has not failed at all plus a nice feature is they give you a ring so you hang the tool while using the flex shaft.

I have noticed the tool gets hot though but this is due to saw dust getting into the motor housing, if you have this problem just use a shop vac hose which will eliminate the heating problem. All in all a great tool the accesseries very good just watch the brushes and keep the dust out of the housing and many years of service will be received.

I bought this Wen tool for my studio, which is not in my home but at a local art center. I have a Dremel at home, which I use frequently for grinding and shaping small,parts and tools. The Wen has good power, and the flex shaft may come in useful at some point, but all I have done so far is to try it out to insure that it works OK.

The tool has a variable speed control, which goes from a crawl (with little torque) to a usable range of mid- and high-speed outputs. The kit came in a plastic case, which, as is often the case, is too small once the power cord has been unfurled.

Included in the case was a plastic box containing various collets (chucks) and grinding and polishing attachments. I would rate this tool excellent, but it does have one flaw, which is that the brass collets (which are slightly too large to fit my Dremel) do not fit shafts smaller than one-eighth inch.

They do not fit the two small drills included in the box. Moreover, any tool with a long shaft will not be well-supported by these brass collets, resulting in the base if the shaft getting out of parallel with the motor shaft.

This causes the working end of the drill, grindstone, or whatever, to rotate off-center, causing chatter. The only cure I can see is to have a tool that barely protrudes beyond the chuck.

Please note that the review below is only intended for those who need a rotary tool to cut tiny pieces of metal. I bought this rotary tool to work on my car. I need it to cut small 10mm (this is the head diameter, the shaft diameter is about 5mm) steel bolts.

These are regular steel bolts, not hardened steel. It took me 30 minutes to make a single cut. When doing a cut, the cutting disc has to be absolutely immobile. The slightest move and the wheel will break.

Also as others mentioned, the slightest pressure and the cutting discs flies in pieces. Take surgeon hands. This does not make sense: in order to cut, one needs to apply a slight pressure. I took a part of a disc in my hand and easily broke it with only three fingers.

This explains why it takes long time to do a cut: no pressure, slow cutting. That is not productive for a DIYer. Now, a cutting disc can be replaced with a better quality part, so I’m not complaining about discs.

The main problem is the tool itself: it does not have power in terms of ‘moderate power’. Even it the cutting disc doesn’t break, with the slightest pressure the tool speed passes from 30000 rpm to less than 20000rpm and the more pressure the lower the speed.

I really mean here slight pressure, didn’t even try moderate pressure as the cutting discs won’t stand it. I am returning it but I’m sorry because I liked the flex shaft even though for the tool to keep it’s speed the flex shaft should be kept pretty much straight without bending it, which again defies the purpose of a flex shaft.

The flex shaft makes quite some noise and vibrations at speeds above 15000rpm. I also think the instruction manual is lacking steps when it comes to install the flex shaft and the bits. For those who are using the tool to make small jobs, I’m uploading a video that hopefully is more helpful than the instructions sheet.

Very pleased with the tool. The motor has great torque and well built. The speed control (foot pedal) is metal and very sturdy. The cable and hand piece is very well built and sturdy. The added bonus I did not expect was the case.

Overall, the tool is a great starting tool for someone that has not used a flex shaft before. This was my second one and I expect to have years of use from the tool.

The motor and flexible shaft seen pretty sold. The chuck centers tools fairly well, but the chuck key is awkward to use because of the safety guard configuration, and the key really isn’t the correct size for the chuck in any case.

Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if I have to repair/replace the foot switch in the not too distant future.

I am very pleased with this flexshaft and it works excellent for jewelry creations. It drills smooth and has a lot of power. It is a great weight and quality. The foot pedal is wonderful and SO much help to me.

Pros Lots of attachments Decent Feel in your hand Did what I needed it to do. Cons Loud Keyless Chuck is less than stellar I got this to clean up some over painted trim work in my house. I did a really nice job of doin that, so I cannot complain about the function of this product.

The Keyless Chuck doesn’t always tighten well enough so sometimes you end up spinning while trying to grind off that last little bit. If I were a little more patient it would have been fine which is why I still gave this a good score.

The variable speeds are nice too as sometimes you need that little extra power, but most of the time you can get away with a lot less.

They are Very responsible and they answer in a timely manner. The product is just as expected! Good quality! The only thing that needs to be more sturdy is the button that allows the tools to be changed! Besides that 👍.

I’m pleased as punch with the WEN Rotary Tool. I did go ahead and get some Dremel EZ-Lock cutoff wheels and grinding wheels which work great with the WEN. I went to WEN’s website and ordered a keyless chuck and extra brushes to make using it even easier as well as prolong its working life.

So with the right accessories it cuts through thin stainless steel with no problem. Grinds well also. The bits are sometimes very slightly off perfectly straight which can cause some vibration at higher speeds, but I think that’s inevitable.

The flex shaft works well but I haven’t used it a lot. The different bits that come with the kit are pretty weak overall, but I got what I paid for with the tool itself. It doesn’t pay to cheap out on the actual bits anyway.

You get an extra collet as well as a different sized collet. You get a couple mandrels for cutting and sanding, a drum for the sanding tubes and one to hold the buffer wheel. The case is nice and holds everything in place.

I recommend this if you need a rotary tool and don’t want to spend a lot of money. Don’t forget Harbor Freight for accessories and bits!.

Only used it once, so far. Length seems sufficient. Feels like a quality product. My only frustration is they do not provide a holder for the chuck key to attached to the flex shaft. A simple $1 item was overlooked.

I am loving using my new flex shaft. I have a sanding tool to use for finishing things I make on my scroll saw. The chuck on this is the perfect size for my sanding tools and the flexible shaft makes it easy to get to each area of my piece to get it all sanded smoothly and evenly.

The flex shaft was perfect for my need. I used it to drill 3/8″ hole under a very tight space under the dash in my 53 Henry J. I had to cut a stubby bit even shorter, but it squeezed in perfect. Extremely happy with the quality you could immediately tell it wasn’t Chinese junk.

Great tool, good value. Husband is a retired General Contract so his has the commercial grade Dremel. I am fighting him so this does not migrate to the shop. Using this for Labrador’s nails, super dense like trimming horse hooves.

Vet charges $38. 00 for Dremeling nails, so pays for it’s self in 2 trims. Had the battery pet version died in a year. The low speed of this would be fine for smaller dogs. Highly recommend. Not a loud sounding tool.

This Dremel 4000 is even better then I expected for working on lapidary and sterling projects! The capabilities are endless, and using a flex shaft makes even more versatile. I can’t stress enough how much I love this product! Making jewelry pieces, polishing cabs, it does everything I need.

It came with a circle cutter and some other polishing and cutting tools, and excepts everything Dremel makes. Highly recommended to anyone working on such projects!.

This Dremel 3000 had two very small scratches on it, marked in silver marker – it failed the factory inspection for these tiny cosmetic imperfections but was brand new and functions 100%. An absolute bargain! I doubt ALL of the “refurbished” units are only cosmetic flaws, but I’m happy mine was.

I guess it matters to look for quality build, as previously I just needed a dremel-like tool and thought I’d get by with a brand new less expensive no-name brand that failed on so many levels, that’s all I’ll say.

So when I saw this used Dremel I said to myself; what could I have to lose. And the price was about the same as the brand new failed no-name. Mind you this logic should never be used to justify anything, but in this case, the used brand name came through with colors.

Did not pay full price but experienced, learned something. I’m good now.

I am sorry to say I received this product and it has a bearing noise in it. I will disassemble it and replace bearings in bushings.

Arrived on time in very good condition, and I have used it to engrave tools with my name, make intricate cuts on various materials, and restore old tools.

I had previously bought this set for carving stones and gems. Due to an unfortunate house fire, it was lost. I purchased two new sets. I love the versatility of this set. It comes with everything you need, and works wonderfully.

I used it with stone, with wood, metal, sanding and grinding. I love the flex shaft that comes with it, and the fact that the handle is removable. I have already recommended it to several people, and will continue to recommend it.

Works great for polishing metal parts and intricate detail work. Does get a little warm after around 10 minutes even on low setting so I let it cool for a minute, clean my work, then get back to it. Has infinite uses and comes with more (for cheaper) than Dremel does.

Beware though that some Dremel accessories fit and some don’t. The chuck from Dremel does not fit, it’s too small to screw on. Wen has one that looks exactly the same but it’s actually a dollar or two cheaper! I was concerned about loosing something not buying Dremel brand but this does it all and Wen makes all the accessories you’d need that aren’t interchangeable.

The main attraction for me was that this was much cheaper vs a comparable Dremel kit. I would’ve paid $100 to Dremel for what I got in this kit for less than $40. I can’t speak to it’s durability as I’ve only used it for a total of around 30 minutes so far.

I also took note to check (because of other reviews I’ve seen) and it is smooth as can be and stays well centered.

this is a complete waste of money the 1st one i bought stopped working so i returned it and walmart sent me a 2nd one. it also broke the button wont turn it on anymore and now its to late to get my money back!!! DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY AND GET A DREMEL!!!!!!!!!.

Plugged it in when I got it to see how loud it is. Very impressed with how quiet it is. Had a similar one about 30 years ago that sounded like a cross between a jet engine and a dental drill. This one even at highest setting isn’t bad at all.

Ran it up and down the speed dial and it seems to have pretty good torque at all the levels. Seems to have a fairly low vibration transfer from the motor. Will see how it is under actual work load. Nice weight and size.

Will have to run it for awhile to see how fast it heats up. Appears to have good vents on the side though, so that may not be an issue. Comes with a small assortment of grinding and sanding tips and an optional flexible shaft attachment.

Carry case plastic seems a little thin/flimsy but everything fits in it well and the latches open and close well. These units are much more portable. Will only use it for occasional things around the house I can’t use my hanging Foredom flex shaft for, so it won’t be getting any really heavy duty use.

Can’t wait to put it through its paces!.

Bought this for a small project that I wouldn’t have access to electrical outlet. On the second day of using it, for what I would say is a moderate work load, it started to smell like something was burning, it was very hot to the touch and it would no longer operate at different speed settings; only off and high.

I returned the product and bought a better well known product from a different store which did cost more, but was very well worth it. Do yourself a favor and buy a nice one.

It runs out of battery in 5 minutes or less. Then takes half a day or more to charge again. It can’t run on anything but the battery so your screwed unless you only want it to use with something like butter that’s soft enough to use on for it and only need to use for less then 5 minutes.

Also if you crank up the speed, cuz you have to as it has no power, it will start smoking bad and battery runs out even faster! Such junk product and can’t wait to bring mine back hopeful they will let me return! Do not buy!!!.

I’m a snowbird and my original hand power kit is in FL. I’m at the Cape in MA and needed a tool to handle the small rusted areas on an outside light fixture and this tool met my needs completely. I purchased an additional 105 power accessory kit to have available should I need the extra part, the price for both (together) was quite reasonable compared to what I would have to pay at any places like Home Depot or Lowes, definitely less expensive (perhaps not the superior name brand tool) at a smaller lumber company, small tool, etc.
