Best Flat Iron For Thick Curly Hair (2026 Updated)

I bought this item during the Target Black Friday sale. The first iron I received was defective and would automatically turn off as soon as I turned it on. I tried multiple plugs to make sure it was the iron and not the outlet before sending it back.

Target replaced it, although it took a few weeks to receive the new one. I have owned many other brands of irons, most of them considered higher end vs this one. I am impressed with the features this one comes with: electronic temperature control (my GHD does not have this), curved plate edges for curling hair (again my GHD does not have this), additional length of plates accommodating for long hair, and the smoothness of the Titanium plates.

It is packed with features for the price. However, it does not have dual voltage which means I can not travel with it as it won’t convert in other countries to their power type, which is something I general seek out in an iron.

Also, there is something about it that just feels a little flimsy compared to the GHD I am replacing it with, or the Amika I had previously owned, or even the Chi iron I had before that one. I use my iron every day, sometimes multiple times a day for touch ups, and they tend to last me about 2 years (doesn’t matter which brand) before they fizzle out.

I have long wavy hair, that I either straighten or put a curl into depending on how much time I have. I will keep this iron because I only paid $60 for it during the Black Friday sale, but it’s not my favorite of all the irons I have owned and used in the past.

It’s definitely “passable” and worth the $60 price tag however. I’ll be looking to purchase another iron with dual voltage when I am able to start traveling again. This one should get me through until then.

I received a defective hair straightener. Turns on fine, heats up, then if I move the straightener, it also moves the electrical cord of course, then it shuts off immediately. I turn it back on, and try to straighten my hair, again it shuts off immediately.

Manual says that temperature blink until it heats up, which it did, then once a desired temperature is reached, it suppose to be on a few minutes. In my case, I pick up the straightener after it heats up, then it shuts off and cools off quickly!!! Impossible to keep it warm, due to the electrical issue in the cord.

The product was defective. Not happy dealing with re-packing, printing labels, and packaging again. I have a video recording available to proof this issue. I am sure it works, not in my case. Not one star, if possible- there was no choice of 0 star.

I used to think that metal plates + heat = straightener. The brand didn’t matter. I got my 1st Chi seven or eight years ago and that all changed. With other straighteners. even those from the beauty supply stores.

I have to run it over my wavy hair multiple times to get it straight. With Chi, it’s one pass and done. I don’t know what makes Chi different but it is. Maybe it has to do with heat distribution. I don’t really even care.

I just know that it works. My hair is healthy despite daily use (Chi Iron Guard is great btw) and I straighten my hair in one-third of the time. If you have waves or curls, invest in a good straightener to keep your hair healthy and to save time.

The “original” is a good price and worth every penny. (My old Chi still works! Unfortunately, I didn’t take care of it so there is a lot of baked on product on the plates. I’ve traveled with it, dropped it many times and who knows what my teen has done to it when she used it but it still works.

Keep your plates clean and it will last many years. ).

I first tried the GHD Platinum+ straighteners on my ‘air dried’ hair when I was in a rush and was very suprised at how well they smoothed the kinks out – very quick too, as I didn’t need to run them over the same strands too often.

Plus, it only took only a minute to heat up! The second time, I used them with ‘blow dried’ hair, so obviously the finish was more sleek. Though I have thick, course, wavy hair with tight curls at the back and must say, I’m very pleased with how little time it takes to go through my mop either way.

There’s a good healthy shine too (I always used the GHD heat protection spray) and it doesn’t feel dry. Overall, they’re light and easy to use, leaves a great finish, no snags with the plates, nice long swivel cord, so it’s not knocking items off my dresser and theres a safety feature, so it switches off after 30 minutes of un-use.

They look and feel like great quality, as you’d expect from GHD. Looking forward to trying these out to create some loose curls next. Would definitely recommend!.

This straightner is so cute, it’s a light pink color! So, it’s got an adjustable temperature wheel, that goes from 140° to 450° so there’s a setting for all hair types and personal preference! It warms up within like 30 seconds.

It displays the L’ange logo down the top. There’s a light to indicate when the straightner is on it’s off when it’s off,then there’s a light that is lit when it’s warming up up to the specific temperature, then that light turns off when it’s to your specific temperature! I do love the 360 cord so it doesn’t get tangled up while getting ready! Also, the cord is a nice long length so that also helps if you happen to get like me and move around and stuff while you are doing your hair! This can give you shiny straight hair or you can curl It or get the flipped ends! It is pretty spendy compared to other straightners and I haven’t noticed anything particularly different with this than other products, so i don’t see any reason to get this one vs one that does all the same things, for a cheaper price.

I’d say your definitely paying for the brand name.

This straightener straightens the hair okay but it wasnt revolutionary to me. There was a lot of hype around this brand on Facebook and Instagram ads so i figured i give it a try when they had a good sale.

I had purchased 59 dollars worth of haircare products and i got this straightener and one of their curling wands. So it was a good deal and the curling tool works great but this product just didnt do much for my hair.

Its straightens but not the best, my hair didnt look as sleek as it has with other tools. So i went back to my old striaghtner that ive had for over 6 years! Id love to find my holy grail hair straightener soon! I just wasnt super impressed.

Oh my lord. I have been using the same hair straightener for two years now. My hair is naturally super frizzy and wavy. This hair straightener does the job perfectly by keeping my hair looking silky and healthy when I straighten it but also Pin straight.

Not only does it make my hair pin straight, but it KEEPS my hair pins straight. That’s really something you should be looking for and a hair straightener is one that will not only straighten your hair but keep your hair straight.

A tip for keeping your GlamPalm in “shape” is to make sure you clean the plates regularly so it can glide through your glossy strands.

I was so excited to finally get to try one of the infamous Dyson hair styling tools! The Dyson Corrale is a flat iron that has the option to be used without a cord and is also rechargeable. The Corrale has a maximum temperature of 410 degrees.

I have naturally curly 3c/4a hair that’s thick and mid length. I washed and blow dried my hair first and then used the Dyson Corrale to finish off my look. Pros: * cordless option – great because you don’t have to worry about the cord getting in the way when using and it can be convenient when on the go * leaves hair shiny and sleek – I have black hair which can sometimes look dull if not styled properly and the Dyson gave my finished look sleekness and with a nice sheen * works great on thicker and curly textured hair – sometimes larger brand products aren’t geared towards hair types that some ethic groups have but the Dyson worked great on my thick, course hair which is natural with no chemical straighter.

* charge is decent – I was able to straighten roughly 90% of my hair off of a full charge which was about 35 minutes. * digital display makes it easy to know the status of your iron’s charge levels and temperature * stand and carrying case come with the iron – the stand is very convenient when using the iron to style Cons: * heavier than the average flat iron – while it wasn’t an issue for me just know the iron does have some weight to it.

It’s crazy to me to see so many negative reviews, but reading several gave me some insight into how I’d like to break down my own review: First, I have short, mostly gray (wirey) hair. I use IGK brand hair products, in addition to occasional use of the Dyson straightener.

I’ve never had universally considered “good” hair: it’s thin, frizzy, can take 6 hours to air dry, is brittle, and only grows out to my shoulders before it starts falling out like crazy—seemingly genetic as all women on my mom’s side have the same issue.

I balked at the price of this. I bought a BNY brand little mini ceramic hair straightener 7 years ago for $200 and instantly regretted that purchase. But it lasted 7 years! The problem was: I didn’t realize it was terrible until I bought this Dyson.

My hair is so smooth, no flyaways, and it actually holds its style—whether I curl or just straighten with this)!! I’ve literally never achieved that with any other heat tool (even leaving the hair stylist’s, within 30 minutes my hair is frizzy and I get the big waves right around my face which I hate on me).

While using this, I haven’t had to touch-up my style at all throughout the day—it holds beautifully. The downsides are absolutely the price, and I do wish it held a charge longer. BUT I did my hair and 2/3 of my kids’ with one charge, totaling roughly 50 minutes of use yesterday on a 3/4 full battery.

With my short hair, I can get roughly 4 days of use before I need to charge my straightener. Next, I agree that it is heavy. I’m very strong and have no issue, but my oldest daughter struggled with it after just two sections of hair.

If this lasts as long as the little $200 crappy straightener I had, I’ll be happy. But one of the biggest selling features to me was the ability to use it wirelessly, and if the battery depletes to a point where it’s wireless use is defunct, I’ll likely regret this purchase….

Great product. Lots of positives, small amounts of negatives that Dyson has still not sorted. Positives: straightens my thick candy floss/nylon hair mixed heritage long hair into a chic straight style with lots and lots of shine.

It does it quite quickly with only a few passes. I do need more than one pass for my hair. The shape of it means that I do not have frizzy rat tail ends to my hair as I can shape them under – something that just did not work with my old straighteners by a well-known brand.

My hair never feels scorched or gets a burning smell that I got with my old straighteners. My hair is down my back but I can still do it within 30 – 40 mins. It gets right up to the root and it does not leave any ridges.

It’s easy to understand how to use – once you’ve figured out that you need to take out the Flight Mode Button and turn it the opposite way – lining the green House icon up with the green arrow – and put it back in.

The flight mode feature allows you in theory to take it in your hand luggage (but they advise that you still check with your Airline). The good news is that on these latest models, they have made the Flight Mode button so that you remove and put back in, in reverse– whereas in the old one, you just pulled it out and left it hanging out, which was crazy as it was destined to get broken off.

It charges up pretty quickly. It has three heat settings meaning that my mum with her much thinner hair in her 70s can use it but I can also use it on my very, thick long hair. And of course, it can be used cordless (but let’s come back to that bit).

Abby Horne does a superb job of demonstrating this excellent product and what she tells you is the truth – it’s a game changer. I no longer have to go to the Hairdressers for expensive blow-dries. I also own a Dyson hairdryer.

The two together cost about the same as my second hand car. It’s a considered purchase and one I do not regret. The instalment plans and 60 day return, if you are unhappy, really is as good as you get.

At first, as they are different from your standard straighteners and dryers, you might think you cannot handle them. Keep going for at least 2 weeks. You will then never turn back! Negatives: 1) It’s nice that it’s cordless for freedom of styling in the home but it’s heavy and big and they still haven’t sorted that out.

So, in reality, it’s not something you would really want to carry with you unless absolutely necessary. 2) For those with thick, long hair, straightening it means that the battery runs out before you’ve finished so you end up putting it back In the dock to charge for quite a while.

I’ve tried putting the cord on when it starts to sound its beep that the battery is low but it carries on beeping even with the cord in and more importantly struggles to keep the straightener charged.

It’s not broken – a relative has the same one and the same challenge. My tip: keep the cord in right at the start whilst it is fully charged and it seems to keep its charge better that way. I’ve still not solved the problem though.

3) I’ve watched beautiful curls being created by Abby and the models on QVC and YouTube but no matter how hard I try, I cannot create them with this straightener. My mixed heritage hair does not slip through traditional straighteners and I think that might be the issue.

I think my mixed heritage hair does not need the corrale part of the plates fitting so closely together. I cannot pull the product down the hair – it will not slide – so I cannot create the ribbon-like curls that sadly everyone else can.

This is the one thing that Abby hasn’t yet covered in her superb presentation – ABBY – HOW CAN I GET IT TO SLIDE TO CREATE CURLS IN MY MIXED RACE HAIR? I DON’T HAVE INSTAGRAM! MANY THANKS It was also difficult to register the product for its guarantee with Dyson online and we had to telephone them in the end, to do so.

We downloaded the manual for the straightener and looked for the registration information – that gave a Dyson website address based in India. We visited that website and put in the serial number but it said it was ‘invalid’.

We then looked on Google for the registration website and found one. We put in the serial number but it wouldn’t accept it. Luckily we had a telephone number for Dyson customer service and the lady took the serial number and registered it.

We got a confirmation email OK. Overall, a must gadget. A considered purchase but over time, it pays for itself through the vastly reduced visits to the hairdressers. Finally, we can all create our best looks, at home!.

I am so impressed with this little device! I have used the InStyler to straighten and give some body to my hair for years and love it for that, but I hate using it for curls. I love the look of beachy waves and wish that I had the skill to create some Hollywood glam curls, but have never been able to achieve these looks with any tools that I have tried, the curls always turn out too tight or poof out and the process take way too long.

The original styler was already a holy grail straightener for me – so I was really curious to see how the updated version would perform! The new styler features the updated power button that the recent stylers have – which makes a welcome change to the usual on/off switch! It takes literally seconds for the styler to heat up (making a little noise when it’s ready) – very ideal for mornings or when you’re in a rush! There’s still only one heat setting (so no temperature control), however it seems to be quite an optimum temperature and doesn’t heat up too hot where you’re frying your hair, but also heats up enough to create hairstyles that last (curls for me using this styler last until I next wash my hair!).

The floating ceramic plates with rounded edges are still perfect for curling my hair and distributing heat evenly, and it feels even smoother going through my hair. I love how versatile this straightener is – I’ve used it for both straightening and curling and it’s perfect for both.

My hair’s quite long and fairly thick but it doesn’t take long at all to straighten – maybe around 10-15 minutes at the most! It’s the perfect size for long or short hair and so versatile. I’ve owned many GHD products throughout the years, so I know this styler will last me years to come. I have very long, highlighted, thick, combination hair. My top layer being relatively straight, and bottom layers being wavy and curly with sections that are kinky. Now that that’s out of the way… I used the Original 1” Styler 3 different ways, because some days I’m lazy, and some days I actually have the time to put “pro-effort” into my hairstyle, either by straightening or curling it.

For my thick hair the Classic Styler straightens better than it curls. If I want the curls to last all day and not fall out I have to start curling my hair from its natural state. With that being said, in order for me to get smooth curls that don’t have any creases or kink in the individual hair strands, I have to pass over my hair at least once before I go in for the actual curling motion… which means when I actually go over it that second time the curl it isn’t as curly, and even has some areas that want to fall immediately.

This is not due to the temperature of the straightener though, because it does get perfectly hot. I’m leaning more towards it being the single zone technology paired with my hair being very thick. If you have thin to average hair you’ll have an amazing result curling.

When it came to taking the time to pro-straighten my hair by taking 1 inch sections, I really like how the plates glide over the sections of hair easily. It’s also not heavy, and I don’t have to squeeze hard to get good pressure on the hair; which means my hands and arms didn’t get tired.

After my hair cooled it was 100% straight, with a lovely, soft and frizz free feel. This lasted all day long too. Last thing I did was “lazy” straightened it by not sectioning or isolating any of it at all… So starting with air dried hair in its natural form, I ran the straightener through my hair randomly.

This is where the Classic Styler really shines! It DOES NOT pull on hair or snag at all. Not even a little! I was super impressed by this. The results of this lazy method were fantastic for putting minimal effort in! I cannot stress this enough.

I really think that the Classic 1” Styler is a great 1st time straightener if you aren’t ready for a slightly larger investment with one of their higher end straighteners with more features, and you’ll love the way this straightener performs! In need of a new flat iron, I was reviewing in my mind all the various heated hairstyling tools I have owned over the years. Not a single one was memorable except for a BabyLiss iron that was of superior quality that went missing during a move.

Hoping to replicate that experience I took the plunge on this somewhat expensive model which proved exceptional in its performance. It saves so much time by heating up in a jiffy and requiring fewer passes through the hair, yet not singing my baby-fine and persistently wavy locks.

The outer metal casing and curved blades prevent unwanted dents and ridges, leaving the final appearance smooth and glossy. The safety end caps are easy to grip which is not the norm for many tools. It’s features were exactly what I was looking for.

This iron is perfect! I have thin hair but have been told I have a lot of thin hair. ? My hair is very wavy when air dried. I always blow dry it out and it straightens it pretty well but still have waves.

I first put it on 400 and it did a fabulous job. My hair was straight and I could still curve it under without a crimp. I also highlight blond in it regularly and it still made it silky and shiny, I love it!! Definitely recommend unless you have very thin dry hair.

I’m a hairstylist and when I saw this featured on another stylists page I was intrigued. I purchased it and fell in love. Well, clumsy me, I dropped it a couple times (I’ve dropped plenty of tools before) and didn’t know something was wrong with it.

For this price tag, I assumed it would be pretty sturdy. Well, it burnt the hair clean off my clients head when turning on the infrared ability. I cried and comped her service. Thank God she has a head full of hair.

When I contacted customer service, they let me know warranty states that if there is any physical damage then the warranty is null. There was a little part where the cord is that helps it swivel, yeah that broke off.

So there’s that! I don’t know any hairstylists that hasn’t dropped anything while working but like I said for the amount of money, I thought that it would be more sturdy.

Truth be told, I didn’t have any true issues with my old ceramic flat irons results. It was getting old and needed replacing from wear and tear. You don’t know what you don’t know! I have an area in the center of my head that has a completely different texture than the rest and typically determines when my hair is at the end of its flat ironed life.

I usually didn’t make it past 2-3 days when it was hot out or when my head sweat before my perfect silky flat ironed hair would turn frizzy and that area would get thick and unmanageable. My new Croc has by far exceeded the results I use to get from my old flat iron.

We can call this thick and unmanageable patch She-gra. The feel of my hair after flat ironing with my Croc was a bit silkier than before (no visual difference) and I am happy to report that She-gra has lasted 2 weeks and could actually last longer.

I have only had to add a little hair polisher every now and then, but it still feels great! With my old flat iron I had to wrap my hair around and tie it up in a scarf every night to prevent the ends from getting frizzy and dry, with my Croc I have been putting my hair in a bonnet unwrapped around my head and again it’s been 2 weeks.

I can’t leave without mentioning the design. At first I thought I would have trouble getting acclimated with the design being that it is different than my old one that I had been using for the last 15 years.

I had no issues with the change, it was easy to use. This thing is magic! ADP.

This is my fourth one from this company. I’ve never found a better one. Smooths, straightens easily, and it’s fast. My only complaint about this one at the moment is a high pitched noise coming from it.

It’s really annoying being so close to my ears at times. The first one I had of these lasted years. Every one after worked for about a year so keep that in mind when looking at the price. They do have some warranty program, but it requires you to mail it to them where you have to live without one for a month.

I just think the qualify is not as good, but it’s still the best option.

I really like the soft texture used on this tool-on the handle. I find my hair doesn’t slide through smoothly, and as I often use my straightener for curls I suspect the texture on the outside is contributing to extra friction and preventing me from smoothly sliding the tool to the ends.

I also wonder about cleaning the outside. I usually don’t notice the build up of product until it’s pretty thick- then I scrape it off. However I think I may damage the coating so I’ll have to be more aware.

I also find the tool gets quite hot to touch. Again, because I twirl the tool, I end up supporting it by holding it closed during the curl. I’ve sometimes burnt my fingers by accidentally gripping it on the sides and touching the plates.

I know this isn’t the case with this one because I’ve checked myself when I’ve been surprised by the heat.

I have used quite a few L’ange products and loved many of them. I wanted to love this straightener, but to me it was not an $150 straightener. It heated pretty well and quickly, but it smelled like burning plastic at one point.

I have pretty sleek hair so it was a true one pass for me, I am not sure how it would be for people with more course or curly hair. It also made some strange noises while it was on. I did love the weight of the tool, and the style of it.

I have owned quite a few straighteners in my time, all at different price points, and this seemed to work like a much cheaper option. It left my hair a little frizzy when I was done, which defeats my purpose of straightening.

I don’t know that I would have kept it if I had only paid $40 or $50. Wanted to love so much.

Okay, I own the LaReve, the Aplitar, the Brush Iron, and Now this one and I can’t RAVE about it more than I am right now. I bought 3 of them, one for me and one each for my two granddaughters. They like me, LOVE Lange products.

My hair is baby fine, and highlighted! They are both mixed and have wavy to tight curls. Although they both love their natural waves they also love to straighten their hair ever so often. They’ve tried too many to mention.

I WAIST of money. They are so in love with this straightener. They can straighten even THEIR Natural WAVY curly hair with ONE pass ladies! ONE PASS! They are some HAPPY CAMPERS! What took them hours to straighten now they an straighten before school and still be on time!.

Same day, not the day BEFORE! Ladies are you LISTENING? This is HARD to straighten naturally tight curls. Okay, I think you all get the point. I sure hope they keep this one for sure in stock. With Christmas approaching I’m sure they will sell out quick.

I bought this from ulta for I believe under $30 almost 3 years ago and it is still running strong. It is very affordable compared to most straightners and does its job well. I love the creative design style of the straightener it always leaves me with amazing results.

After reading some reviews I thought this would be a suitable substitute for my flat iron soon-to-be-retired, that was not the case. Cheap or expensive I don’t have a preference as long as I got my money’s worth from said item but it is unfortunate that I have very slight wave to my hair but was unable to flatten my hair completely due to the lack of heat with this flat iron.

Anyone in adulthood looking for a daily straightener to create that beautiful pin straight style of hair do not purchase this item. This is best suited for younger girls who do not need a super high heat tool to style their hair.

This flat iron is pretty good, but like many others, I find I have to go over the hair several times to get it straight. It’s hard to believe that even with my fine hair, I still have to do this. I do have naturally curly hair, but after blow drying, my hair is fairly straight and still I had to go over the hair more than I think I should.

I am going to return this and try the Chi. I just want something that works with one or two swipes. I wanted to like this as the colors are super cute and much more fun than just a black iron, but in the end, the result is really all that matters.

You could do worse than this iron and it’s a good price.

My girlfriend and I were in the mall and someone was selling these, ya know from their little stands. Anyway, I told my friend to keep walking. But she got sucked in. The lady tried selling these to us for $259 a piece at first, telling us they were originally $500.

I said absolutely NOT! Then she offered us two for 250$, I said NO again. But then she said “oh I’m not supposed to do this but I’ll give you two of them for $180. My girlfriend really wanted one, so I finally said yeah.

She threw in some hair serum, which I already had, and a heat protector mit. I got it home, and tested it out. My hair is coarse curly in between 3A-3B, and frizzy. It took my over an hour to straighten my hair.

It also was breaking my hair. My girlfriends hair is straight blonde and very hydrated, so…. She used it to curl hers. Her curls were the same as a barrel curler, but fell out shortly after she did it.

It was NOT worth what I paid for both of them. The plastic around the plates sucks, at will catch on your hair. The plates themselves and the plastic will stretch your hair and break it.

I tried the Soleil mini heat brush and wasn’t too impressed. I have done, frizzy, and straight hair so I thought this would be great. While it reduced the puffiness a little bit, i was expecting a little more, especially for fine hair.

Also, while heating up the brush smelled like it was burning and i was nervous to use it. Before and after in the pics.

I honestly prefer this straightener over many other ones out there. This straightener is better for your hair and if your like me and have curly hair so you don’t want a curler until you do this is a really good straightener to make curls that last.

I got this I think 3 years ago and I did not know how to use a straightener before so my hair would turn out frizzy after going outside which made me hate this but now I love it. It makes your hair look shiny and silky and I don’t know why more people don’t rave about this brand.

I got this as a Christmas gift from my sister in law in 2013. I still use it every day and it works just as well as it did when I first got it! Best straightener I’ve ever had! Love! Takes me half the time to get my super thick hair perfectly straight and doesn’t make my hair feel super dry and fried like some others I’ve used do!.

This flat Iron works great on my wavy hair! My hair goes from frizzy lion mane to spun silk when dry. I really liked it beacause it makes your hair looks healthy and more natural. The only thing i put in my hair is thermal protection spray to not lose hair volume and save more hair.

All in All, It’s a great tool!.

This is the best flat iron I have used by far and one of the least expensive ones. The plates allow my hair to glide through with out any snags and I only need one pass, my hair is very curly! I love it and will likely never use another flat iron again.

I waited a long time to bite the bullet and buy the infrared straightener after I realized I bought the wrong Croc straightener in-store a couple of years ago (that one was still amazing). I finally saw a good sale and got it! I have shoulder-length hair that is naturally curly and my ends would flip within minutes of straightening with the other straightener, but not this one! My ends stay straight all day long even in the humidity.

The only reason for four-stars is because it doesn’t quite get to my root as well as the other to tame my baby curls but it still does what I need it to. Highly recommend.
