Filters for canon lenses can include UV filters, circular polarizing filters, neutral density filters, and more. Each type of filter serves a different purpose and can help to improve the quality of your photos.
UV filters, for example, help to reduce the amount of ultraviolet light that enters the lens, while circular polarizing filters can help to reduce glare and reflections.

The kit arrived in the post on Saturday, midday. Within the hour, the Ultra-violet filter was in use shooting footage of an unseasonable boom in the incidence of Black Swan hatchings. The lens used for tests is one of considerable controversy, a Carl Zeiss ‘JenaZoom’ 70-210mm which inspires almost cult status, or fear and loathing in equal measure.
I’ll go with the former category, as this UV filter has enhanced my colours no end. I am well satisfied with this purchase, and am contemplating a similar kit to use with a genuine East German Zeiss lens, (1980’s) in the near future.
These, in N. Z. at the moment are late Autumn colours and the ‘jpg’ is a still frame from HD video, 10-bit AVC-Intra material.
I could not put it better, yes these are essential filters. I initially used and experienced the Essential kit on the lenses for new Nikon One V3. As these have a 40. 5 mm front thread, I had nothing to fit these for older set ups so I had to purchase a new set of filters.
The Urth marketing and Philosophy appealed to me and in use they are reliable and fit well (no scratchy & catchy threads). The polarising filter (CPL) is exceptional. The Neutral Density filters I have appear to be spot on.
Some other brands have not been consistent. Impressed, yes I am, I am now embarking on replacing all the round / screw filters for my full frame DSLR Nikon lenses, with the Urth versions.
Oh my goodness, I have only received these filters and the quality is already amazing! Packaging is absolutely great. Its sturdy, hard to open which is really good because it won’t open in transit, the lens filters themsleves are cushioned inside (even better) and even the cleaning wipe for them is packaged so nicely.
The lense filters themselves are absolutely stunning, it was SO worth my Money as they give such a great effect to your photos that you can’t get on photoshop or any other editing app. I’d really recommend getting this kit as it even comes with the variable ND lens filter which can give you SO much flexibility in terms of shooting long exposures.
I would give it more than 5 starts if I could. Really, strongly recommend getting this kit.
NOTE: Altura Photo filter is compatible with all 58mm lenses. Your camera’s lens thread size will be marked somewhere on the lens barrel or printed underneath your lens cap. This number is always preceded by a “” (diameter) symbol.
This UV Filter blocks the invisible UV component of light from the sky, which can cause blur and to which many color films react with a blue cast. These filters should be called UV-Blocking Filters, because there are filters for technical applications that pass UV radiation and block all the other wavelengths.
Nevertheless, the short term “UV Filter” has become established among photographers. UV Filters are ideal for photography in high altitudes (in the mountains), by the sea and in regions with very clean air.
The pictures gain brilliance and disturbing blue casts are avoided. Because the glass is colorless, color rendition is not altered, aside from the elimination of the unwanted blue cast, and no increase in exposure is required.
That makes a UV Filter very suitable as protection of the front element of the taking lens against dust, flying sand, sea water spray and the like, and it can be kept on the lens at all times. It is recommended for analog color and black-and-white as well as digital photography.
Each glass surface is vacuum coated with one layer of Anti-Reflection coating. This single layer helps to prevent internal ghosting and reflections. It also improves light transmission from approximately 92% (uncoated glass) to over 98%.

I am using this filter to help protect a valuable rare vintage black Nippon Kogaku Japan Nikkor 8. 5cm f2. 0 LTM lens being used on a Leica M246 monochrome. B W quality is excellent. The filter screws on-off without binding.
The XS mount is thinner than the F-Pro mount. The nano coating facilitates cleaning. I purchase from B&H because I have always been able to trust that their products are new and are genuine. A filter is a small investment compared to your other gear.
I have used B+W filters for years and have had no problems at all. They are excellently constructed, of the highest quality glass and being made of brass instead of aluminum are easy on, easy off. Now with the Nano coating they are easy to clean.
I use them on wide angle to telephoto lens. When you spend a larger amount of money on quality lens why put a cheap filter on it. If you buy B+W you will be very happy.
The Heliopan 77mm UV SH-PMC Filter is not only an excellent filter for visually improving images made with either digital camera or shot on film but it can always stay on the lens to protect the lens from fingerprints dust and moisture.
It absorbs the short wave portion of the spectrum so in hazy conditions a better image of the scene is possible. Loss of sharpness from ultraviolet rays and the blue tones common in infinity scenes are eliminated.
No exposure correction is needed. Best contrast and sharpness Heliopan offers the highest quality optical glass from the German Schott Group. SH-PMC broadband coatings of 8 layers per side for the highest reflection reduction (below 0.
2%). Slim mount does not vignette with 21mm lenses. Slim mount includes front threads for hoods caps even additional filters. Minimal reflections because of matte black anodized brass filter rims which will not bind when threaded in combination with other metals.
Color: Black. Dimensions: 3. 03 H x 3. 03 W x 0. 3 L.
Heliopan makes an exceptional quality filter and I am quite happy with my choice despite the cost. I have used them before on occasion, but B+W filters were my first choice like forever. Before purchasing this one I noticed recent reviews of B+W filters complained that they arrived in a cloth sack and were covered with lint and sometimes even dirt that required extensive cleaning before use.
So for now at least all my filter purchases will be Heliopan.
Mount adapter for EOS R system only. This type is equipped with a drop-in filter holder function. A variable ND filter is included, and the density equivalent to ND3 to ND500 can be adjusted with the adjustment dial.

I got this lens in two days (thanks BH Photo!) about a month after I preordered. I also bought Hoya NXT UV filter for it. Some of initial impressions I found online did scare me but after trying it out I am very happy with this lens.
This lens, like some other RF lenses (and many new lenses from other brands) must be optimized digitally to bring out the best image quality possible. It seems to be the norm now. even RF 15-35mm 2. 8 and 14-35mm F4 L lenses will need to be digitally optimized to be distortion free.
So yes, the raw images from this 16mm lens are mildly distorted. and I believe the raw image is more like 15mm lens. and after correction it becomes a 16mm lens. I compared with Tamron 17-28mm 2. 8 Sony lens and the final image from this lens is definitely wider than tamron at 17mm.
Adobe currently do not have this lens profile. I did read some people using RF 24-240mm lens profile with some success. So to get the best output you will need to use canon digital photo professional 4.
0 (with most recent update) or just make sure you also save jpg in camera. Having saying all that, I’m very pleased with the images. very sharp. and low to little chromatic aberration. (unfortunately there are heavy chromatic aberration in raw format).
With R6 this lens and body combo is light. The video is good too with just IBIS but if you shake it too much your video will wobble more than shake. but normal waking and up and down stair you would see a very clean and stabilized image in the video.
Vlogging will be great because you don’t need to extend your arms that far out and the weight is inviting. This lens may have some compromise but in return you get such a small package and a great low price.
I definitely highly recommend it to anyone. It’s a great option over 14-35mm or 15-35mm if all you really want is a clean sharp image at wide end and will use it for travel. But then it’ll be good for everything else too (it’s also a macro lens!).
Cut reflections, longer motion blur Our professional ND64 + Circular Polarizing CPL Filter Plus+ cuts polarized light to increase contrast and boosts color saturation and vibrancy. It also cuts 6 f-stops of light for motion blur and depth of field effects in bright light.
Polarized light can wash out images with silvery reflected light and our ND64 + CPL Filter Plus+ cuts out 99. 9% of reflected light from water, glass, and non-metallic surfaces, uncovering bolder colors.
Our ND64 + CPL also blocks a fixed 6 f-stops of light entering your camera, allowing you to use slower shutter speeds for long exposure and wider apertures for shallower depth of field effects in bright light.
Our Plus+ range features 20 layers of nano-coating providing easier cleaning and better protection against water, oil and scratches. These layers also provide a higher maximum light transmission and a more consistent transmission curve for sharper images, finer colors and greater depth.

Reduces flare and ghosting Giving sharp contrast and well balanced colour HOYA HMC filters are recommended for enhancing the performance of multicoated lenses The mildest of the contrast filters for black and white photography, yellows produce the most natural tonal range.
By absorbing ultra-violet, violet and blue it moderatly increases contrast in sky, foliage and architecture photography. It’s natural tone reproduction in landscapes, cityscapes and portraits make it very useful for all daylight exposures.
Multi coated for maximum flare protection. Available in most sizes.
The Hoya 81A Warming Glass Filter is a professional grade and use filter for film photography. Quite honestly the B&W NANO was the one I was using till I dropped the camera. B&W no longer produce that glass so I went for my second choice, HOYA.
It is a close second. I still shoot 35mm about the time and digital of the time. I really like the effect that the 81A Warming Glass Filter has on daylight photos. I leave this filter on my lenses all the time as protectors as well only removing them when a flash is needed.
Not sure if HOYA has discontinued their line of glass as well I’m just glad I was able to find one. As far as my dealings with Adorama, I have done buisness with them for over 20 years. They are an outstanding company that can be trusted.
I shoot black and white film, so I use a Green filter to lighten grass and foliage while darkening brick work and/or blue sky. I shoot landscapes and the Green filter gives tonal differentiation between the walls/buildings and the grass.
Otherwise quite often the grass and any building have very similar tonal response – so the buildings just disappear in to the grass. Hoya make high quality filters from optical grade glass – so there is no image degradation from using them.
The HMC (Hoya Multi Coating) is as good as found on any lens. The green filter has a filter factor of X4 – or 2 stops. I am never sure how much any cameras TTL metering system is affected by colour cast – so I always meter separately and apply the filter factor manually.
In addition – a green filter can also be used in a black and white image (whether digital or film) to enhance skin tones. However, the enhancement also increases any skin imperfections. So, its great if you want to produce rugged “he-man” type shots – but not if you are trying to do female beauty.
This orange (G) filter is perfect for darkening the skies to make those clouds really stand out. Often the effect of a dark red filter makes the picture look a bit unrealistic and the shadows too dark (lots of blue light in shadows!).
A yellow filter is excellent for a mild effect. especially when a dark sky and clouds aren’t a major consideration. All three filters help reduce atmospheric haze to make the picture appear brighter and crisper.
In landscapes, for maximum haze penetration, try combining this G filter with a polarizing filter and you may be amazed at how the haze is reduced. I recently took a picture from Dante’s View in Death Valley.
The haze was so bad you couldn’t see the north end of the valley. looked almost like smog! By stacking the polarizing filter and the orange filter, the black and white prints looked like I took the pictures on a clear, winter’s day.
You could see detail all the way to the far end of the valley. I’m using large format film. The downside to using these filters (especially when stacking them) is that they reduce the amount of light reaching the film.
For landscapes I always try to use the slowest films possible. That combined with light loss caused by the filters means that I need to use a tripod. For dramatic landscapes/seascapestry this orange filter (possibly combines with a polarizer).
For general street photography I use a medium format camera and a very light yellow filter that protects the lens and adds just a bit of “pop” without adding much contrast.
The Hoya 58mm HMC ND 0. 3 Filter is an ND filter with a 2x filter factor that provides a 1-stop exposure reduction. Its 0. 3 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required.
By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.
To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes three layers of anti-reflection coating. These coatings also offer greater protection to the filter substrate and help it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters.
This filter is constructed from optical glass for increased clarity and color fidelity. Its aluminum-alloy filter ring is durable while remaining lightweight.

Wasn?t aware of brand recognition at first but I must say this is a GREAT tool Esp combing a circular polorizer on a drone. This size fits the x5-x5r-X5s. I have it on the latter but they are all the same Lumix I mean DJI 15mm stock lens.
I love it. Clean. Neat. And makes shooting in the brightest of day a breeze.
This polarizer is well constructed and I am quite happy with it. It is a bit snug which makes rotating the filter a bit tough. But I am assuming this is due to superior weather sealing. I highly recommend this filter.
NiSi HUC PRO Nano IRND 0. 9 Filter, 8x Filter Factor, 3-Stop, NiSi PRO Nano IRND 3. 0 Filter, 1000x Filter Factor, 10-Stop, Darkens Entire Image, Reduce Shutter Speeds, Widen Apertures, NiSi HUC PRO Nano IRND and Polarizer, 64x Filter Factor, 6-Stop; Darkens Image, Helps to Eliminate Reflections and Glare, Reduces Haze, Greater Color Saturation.
This NiSi 67mm Circular ND Filter Kit contains three filters that are compatible with lenses that feature 67mm front filter threads. They can be used individually or in various combinations to create a darkening of the entire image allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required.
By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.
The included filters consist of two solid neutral density filters that reduce the amount of light entering a lens by 3 and 10 stops as well as a filter that combines a solid neutral density effect with a circular polarizer effect.
When in use the solid neutral density and circular polarizer filter provides a 6-stop exposure reduction while helping to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.
A filter pouch is included to store and transport this filter kit. It features four padded nonabrasive pockets plus a touch-tab-fastened closure.
Photographing solar eclipses and ultra-bright light sources can be extremely dangerous. This filter reduces light values by 9 stops to less than 1/500th of its original intensity and allows safe photography.
It can also be used to achieve super slow shutter speeds in daylight to render moving subjects invisible, and will enable you to use slow shutter speeds, especially with high speed films, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, vehicles, etc.
It will also decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background. And this filter allows you to decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (above ISO 400) so it can be used outdoors in bright situations.
Neutral Density filters have no effect on color balance, appear grey and reduce the amount of light reaching the film. Multi-coating minimizes reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare as well as ghosting.

Best Polarizer Money Can Buy at the moment. UV filtering element in this PL filter is able to filter out annoyingly, over exaggerated bluish tone PL filter produces in digital camera. The final result is tastefully emphasized pleasant blue sky while removing lots of unwanted reflections off water and glass surface.
Even in the shadows, it does bring refined calming effect to the picture. I love this filter, though if your need is to remove lots of unwanted reflection, I recommend you try an old Linear polarizing filter, which takes more out than Circular polarizer.
Circular polarizer was introduced in 1980s when auto focus camera became available. Then current auto focusing system had problems when Linear PL filter was used. Today, auto focus system has become so smart that you can use a traditional PL filter without any problems.
The industry wants to sell you Circular PL filter because they can charge you more than Linear PL filter. I have taken 100s of pictures with my old linear PL filters on my digital camera with no problems with greater polarizing effect than Circular PL filter.
However, without UV filtering element built-in, discoloration by over emphasized blue becomes obvious with some camera equipment especially when dynamic range compression algorithm is utilized. In this line of pursuit for perfection or more natural looking light, I have found this polarizing filter to be very favorable for my style of photography.
I began seeing long-exposure images on different sites, and found them intriguing. Without the benefit of ND filters, it quickly became apparent that long exposures in dayime weren’t going to produce salvagable results.
without filters. After researching and comparing different strengths and different manufacturers of ND filters, my choices were narrowed down to three of the names considered the best for optical quality.
After deciding he lens I was going to use for long exposure shooting, and choosing the correct size, I started out with a 3-stop ND filter, which proved to be ineffective for daylight shooting. The next step was to go all out and purchase a 10-stop ND filter, and I decided on the Hoya PROND 1000.
This filter has not disappointed. It took some trial and error to learn when to stack the 3-stop and 10-stop, and there was quite a bit of experimentation with shutter speeds and camera setup (got to use a tripod for long exposure).
A timer delay of 2 seconds helped keep the stationary object in crisp focus, while the water around it became smooth and silky. I have been very pleased with the results of my limited shooting, and look forward to a lot more opportunities to try out this filter.
It’s definitely worth the money for landscape/water photography, well made, good glass, easy to use. It would be handy to have a filter remover (looks like a giant rubber band) for those times the filter may be on the lens too tightly to remove.
The beauty of having a 3-stop and 10-stop is their stackability. So far, both at the same time haven’t been needed, but you can never have too many filters, right?.
Safeguard your camera lens and improve photo quality with this Platinum PT-MCUVF58 UV lens filter that features quality glass material to ensure efficient performance. The ultra-thin profile helps reduce image obstruction.
I shoot professionally, and years ago you had to spend big bucks to get a decent UV filter for your lens. “Don’t scrimp on the money,” the adage went. “Your image will only be as sharp as your worst piece of glass.
” This filter puts that one to rest for me. No image degradation at all, and at a great price. I highly recommend a UV filter now. Easier to clean the filter than the front element of your lens, the filter avoids the risk of damaging the lens’ spectral coating, and if you accidentally drop your lens, better to bend or break the filter than the glass it’s protecting.
Upon using this for the first time, I was wowed by the difference it makes and how it helps make the colors more accurate. Especially in the sunset pictures I’ve attached (1st one is without CPL filter, 2nd and 3rd ones WITH CPL filter).
I’ve also used the anti-glare function on my car, not shown, and it also works! I’ve looked at stuff on amazon but they seemed too cheap with bad reviews, or they were too expensive for me. This lens is not only cheaper, but the overall positive reviews encouraged me to buy this over the amazon ones.
Seems reliable enough to use as an intermediate photographer and videographer.

We have all heard it said put a UV filter on to protect the front element of your lens. So I played along with the game and did just that. I do it with all of my lenses. But all the while I would think to myself it will never happen to me.
I’m too careful and besides the EF70-200mm f/2. 8L has such a long hood what could ever even touch the front element? I switched down to a smaller camera bag to shoot an assignment in NYC, I need a minimal bag for security reasons.
After returning I was lazy and didn’t switch back to my normal larger safer sling bag. A few days later I had a lot of gear in the car and placed my small holster style bag high up on top of all the gear.
When I arrived home at night in the dark, my wife opened the back door of the car and the bag leaped out and went straight to the concrete. I saw it fall, I heard it hit and I knew there would be damage.
It fell straight and square on the bag where the front of the lens was. My wife wanted to cry. I was angry. with myself. I cursed myself as I opened the bag. In the photos you can see the smashed filter.
What you can’t see is how the lens cap was driven through the outer ring of the filter. It took vise grips to remove the lens cap from the filter. Then I unscrewed the filter from the lens and the element to my surprise looked undamaged.
I live in central New Jersey so the next morning I was at Canon Pro Services to have the lens looked at. The outcome was a few lose screws and they did a calibration and said the lens was 100% A-OK. Love the people at CPS.
So there I was. I was that guy that said it would never happen and it did. And the camera was in the bag with the lens cap on.
Buying products from Canon always gives me a sense of comfort and this lens filter is an excellent reason why. It is durable, a perfect fit for my 70-200 lens, and provides that extra piece of protection to my glass.
Canon multi coated regular protection filter. 95mm filter thread. This filter is ideal to leave on your lens for protection from knocks, bumps and scratches. Neutral filter which doesnt effect the colour balance.
Quality multi layered coatings. Suitable for lenses with a 95mm filter thread such as the Canon RF 28-70mm f2 L USM zoom lens.
This filter feels well built, and fit perfectly on my Canon RF 85mm lens. Professional reviews indicate it has top tier light transmission (as good as B+W but at a lower cost), and since putting it on my lens I haven’t noticed anything out of the ordinary with ghosting or flaring, etc.
It arrived extremely well packed and protected from B&H and shipping time was excellent. I’d buy it again and will definitely be using more Canon filters in the future.
The UV Protector helps protect your camera or camcorder lens against dust, moisture, fingerprints, scratches, and damage while providing the basic protection against UV light. It can be kept on your camera lens at all times.
These filters are used by many photographers to protect the front element of their lens from abrasions, dust, and moisture. They also have a very subtle warming effect, which can be useful to counter the ‘cool’ colors you sometimes get in bright sun or in shade.
The Tiffen 46mm Soft/FX 1 Filter can be applied to purposely reduce the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles in portraits or to apply a general soft-focus effect while maintaining overall sharpness. An array of small lenses distributed within the surface of this filter smooths fine lines and textures, which can be useful for creating a more flattering result of a subject.
This filter has a grade of 1. Grades of 1/2, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are also available where this filter type’s effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase. When higher grade numbers are applied, a halation effect around highlights can be created to further enhance a subject’s appearance or produce a desired effect.
This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. It is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.
In my experience, a clear filter is better than a UV clear one. Why? Because the UV filters tend to distort the blue sky, making it look more greenish than it is. If the purpose of a clear filter is to protect the lens, it is better to eliminate any other functionality.
The Tiffen Ultra Clear Filter does the job and lets the camera lens send the light to the sensor without alterations.
Perfect for the seasoned photographer, the Hoya 58mm Filter Kit gives you a UV(‘C) Multi-Coat filter for fine weather, a CIR-POL filter for colour and contrast enhancement, and a NDx8 filter for wider apertures or longer exposures, as well as a filter pouch and a guidebook.
The UV filter is tough to screw on and off. The threads don’t match well and thus is takes a lot of jiggling and when finally able to turn at all, it is with force and it squeaks loudly. Then it’s awfully hard to unscrew, with same loud squeaking noise.
This will not do as I have to change filters when working in the outdoors, and the noise will disturb the wildlife that I am studying. The other two filters go on with ease.
Got this product while shopping at the store in NYC. I needed great ND-FILTERS for both my lens & the employee recommended this brand to me. They worked great & provided beautiful photographs for my certain conditions.
All the employees at B&H are extremely helpful, professional & full of knowledge, if you can shop inside their store it’s the best way to go. Their store was very clean & well organized so you could easily find the area you needed to be in.
There was always a few employees in each area to provide assistance & answer all your questions or concerns. I give this store a 5 star rating, you can’t shop at a better store in the world. I wish they would open a store in Pittsburgh, that would be very nice to have, attest they’ve their website you can also shop on.
Thank you B&H for making my first time experience shopping inside your store a wonderful one. I will come back as often as possible. I loved seeing all the products inside your store & being able to actually have a hands on experience with the professional video cameras that I’m interested in purchasing, makes a big difference than looking at them online.
Your entire staff is wonderful. If you can, I highly recommend going to their store & shopping there, it’s truly an amazing experience you will never forget. Absolutely worth the visit if coming from out of town!.
This is the kit suggested to go along with the purchase of the Nikon Z 105 lens. It just makes sense to get it since you need to get the UV filter or something similar for protection anyway. And who can’t use another ND filter? If it was a variable filter it would be better cuz end up ordering that anyway but for the price, this is a sensible option.
There are a few different types of filters that can be used on Canon lenses, each with their own specific purpose. UV filters are primarily used to protect the front element of the lens from damage, while also helping to reduce lens flare and ghosting.
Polarizing filters can be used to reduce glare and increase color saturation, while ND filters can be used to reduce the amount of light entering the lens.
