I used the Firestick to view Netflix on a bedroom tv. I wanted to watch “The Crown-session 3” today on Netflix. I had watched the previously watched the first two sessions a couple of days ago. Today I searched with the Firestick on the bedroom tv, and “The Crown” wasnt even an option.
It didn’t come up in the search. What DID come up first on the list was “Becoming, which was a documentary about Michelle Obama. That clearly had nothing to do with “The Crown”! It was like it didn’t want me to watch “The Crown” and watch “Becoming”.
This is clearly an invasion of my privacy and censoring what I wanted to watch. A total violation of my First Amendment rights! I the went to my main tv which has a Roku to watch Netflix. I searched “The Crown” and there it was—the first on the list! I think the makers of Firestick are trying to censor what viewers are trying to watch.

I like this product. We are first time cord cutters and with assistance from a Best Buy associate and watching videos online, we were able to leave Comcast and join the streaming video world. Firestick makes it pretty easy, and we are liking the change.
The voice control feature is neat. There is a learning curve and some things on Firestick are not as easy to figure out as others. I like the ability to enter different viewer profiles. We bought Firesticks for each TV we own because we only had one smart TV and so the viewing experience would be the same on each one.
I have no idea how Firestick compares to Roku or Chrome as we have never used either of those products. I miss having one program guide which shows ALL the channels including public free channels available over my antenna.
I understand that there is a product called Air TV which I wish I had known about sooner, as I understand it has that feature. There was an offer for it when I signed up with AT&T but it was not well explained, and I missed out on it.
Now that I have an antenna for the free channels, it isn’t really worth going back and paying $100 for an Air TV device. There are some program guides in Firestick menus, but they are comprehensive and cover every channel you have available on your streaming service and free channels you have downloaded, so it is massive, but it doesn’t cover network station airing on free channels.
Anyway, I’m liking the change from cable TV and there is more channels and programming than anyone can possibly watch which was not available with comcast. If we can cut the cable at our age, anyone can do it.
Talk to a Best Buy associate, watch some videos, talk to folks who have done it, and you can do it and save a bundle of $$.

My father decided to dump cable completely over a year ago. He would often say how much he missed being able to DVR and watch live sports while fast forwarding through commercials. I had purchased an Insignia Fire TV back in 2018 and read several reviews about the Fire TV Recast.
My biggest concern was that my father lives in Northern Iowa with the TV towers almost 50 miles away. I took a gamble and purchased the Recast along with a few different antennas from Insignia, RCA, and finally Antennas Direct.
He set everything up and did several channel scans in different locations. The best location ended up being in the garage (25 channels) and he was able to connect to the Recast over Wi-Fi. He has used it since July and is very pleased.
I had the opportunity to visit him and watch several football games. They came in very smooth with almost no buffering. I deducted one star as the the interface for recording and accessing the channel guide is a little cumbersome.
There is plenty of storage for his needs without needing to purchase an additional hard drive. Buy it on sale if you can find it for around $170. 00.
The Recast is great if you don’t have cable or satellite and want to watch/record local programming via the Recast DVR. It does require a Firestick and OTA antenna. The downside to the Recast is the setup can be difficult for people with limited tech experience.
Plus trying to figure out how to add live tv channels from all the Firestick’s free apps to the live tv guide that airs your existing local programming is very difficult, but not impossible. I added several classic tv channels from Pluto TV, IMDB TV and Tubi TV to my local tv guide.
Amazon needs to provide a better how to guide that covers basic installation and step by step info on how to sync live tv apps to add/remove channels to the live tv guide. I wish Pluto, IMDB, Tubi, Roku and Peacock apps would offer more channels in the Recast tv guide.
You can also use the Recast on multiple Firesticks in your home.
I bought my first recast in 2020. I already had indoor antennas on two TV’s but had live TV through DirecTV. I had the antennas on TV’s with no DirecTV box. We decided to cut the cord and wanted to watch local channels that were not offered by streaming services on any TV in the house.
We are prime subscribers and have multiple FireTV’s so this was perfect. Plus the hard drive is included and there’s no subscription. All went well until a few months ago. The recast would not keep it’s connection to our router.
No other streaming devices including FireTV’s had this issue. Got a replacement under warranty. So far so good. If this one fails I will have to find an alternative since Amazon doesn’t seem them on their website.
