The pros are simply put it is great soil with the right amount of near everything and it’s of nice fine sift. It’s great for one go of 4 months or so. After that it lacks slow release nutrients “that can be added” on the big con is “bugs” “larvae” this can be fixed with a bit of prep with neem oil and insecticidal soaps.

Plenty of ways to fix but for the price. maybe should already be done. The only problem with the cost is that the distribution is scarce. Very much so in rural areas. It’s a solid hour and 45 minute drive to my nearest dealer/carrier but if you take the trip and find one you’ll be sour that the price on the 1.

Tractor supply or Co-OP at least. It’s a bit of a black market with a bug problem. I spray with neem oil and soap “notdawn” then flip the soil and repeat 3-4 times. I then let soil completely dry out again placing in extreme cold helps too.

I then re-warm and re-wet with spring water adding bone meal, broke up organic jobes fertilizer sticks, blood meal plus perlite and vermiculite for drainage and anti packing properties and finally about 5 lbs or 6 gallons of cocoa coir.

Best soil I’ve personally ever used after a little prep work. ps: the neem oil and soap will keep away the bugs gnats and larvae best part its completely natural and from a tree. Smells bad and I do not recommend during flowering cycles.

I discovered this product last year and was totally blown away! You can literally see your plants growing once you pot them using this soil. My garden is in pots on my deck and I am amazed with how well they all are doing.

I started some seeds last week and decided to use this soil instead of my seed starter soil. In 3 days my seeds had sprouted and are doing great! I told my son this product is soil on steroids lol! I can’t remember how many bags I used last year but to date this year I have purchased 8 bags.

I spoke to Fox Farms because theres little information on this bag. I was told to treat it like potting soil, but it still grows like coco. It is PH buffered, and has enough nutrients for ABOUT 3 weeks.

However I start light feeding when the 1st permanent appear. Whats even better is coco is even better the 2nd time around. , Rip your plants and main roots out shake off excess back into the pot and top it off with a little fresh.

Its best to add an enzyme routine to your feeding but not necessary. By now the coco which is usually very unstable PH wise has become stable from all the Cal Mag, it also has lots of bacteria, and microbes that are great for your roots.

What ever you do, do not throw out your used coco loco after the 1st grow its just broke in and your plants will love it. My last harvest was 674 grams off 2 plants using subpar lighting. Would have been a lot better if I had more wattage.

Just remember coco loco is triple washed, so there is no dust, its ph buffered, and has nutrients for about 3 weeks, its really good stuff. But ask your local nursery to order it. because its only around 15 bucks for 2cu.

It’s expensive, but it’s clearly the best potting soil available. The cheap ones, such as from Home Depot have so much peat moss, they don’t absorb moisture readily. Drying out quickly, those other peat moss laden soils get very stiff, which chokes the roots that need room to grow.

Foxfarm has the perfect balance of moisture absorbency and drainage. It remains soft, so roots can easily stretch into new growth. Also unlike Miracle Grow potting soil, that has artificial fertilizers, plants won’t spike with growth, only to slump in fatigue from too much sudden stimulation.

With FoxFarm, they’ve got steady nutrients, so plants endure happily. I used to bring seaweed from the beach, dry it out and chop it up, because my plants love those minerals. FoxFarm saves me the work, because they’ve added the seaweed for me.

This potting soil is Ok, it’s not great. You can mix your own using the same ingredients of higher quality for less money. The lava rock is a joke…maybe 1-2 handfuls throughout the bag. My tropical plants seem happy.

I also never use any soil straight from the bag. I add activated charcoal, vermiculite, coir, perlite, and sometimes shale or sand as a topper. Mix everything together evenly, then put into a closed plastic ziplock bag and leave in the sun for 2 days to ensure it’s sterile.

Yeah, you might kill some good microorganisms but they’ll return or you can add nutrients later. Your plants will not get root rot and die. Inconsistent watering, insufficient light, poor air circulation…all contribute to rot.

With any grow medium you might have to adjust your watering…pay attention – use a moisture meter and clear pots. I’m tired of people complaining about fungus gnats. They are VERY easy to get rid of and I’m talking about heavy infestations.

Repot if you can with fresh soil, rinse off the entire plant especially the roots, do not water plants until 5-7 days after repotting (don’t water at all when you repot) and use a systemic pesticide drench…3-4 months later introduce beneficial insects.

I’ve tried a lot of different potting soils- I have a bit of a “plant problem” lol. What I’ve noticed is that this soil in particular has not caused any little mushrooms to grow in my potted plants, and I have not had any gnats from it either.

I have also frequently used the miracle grow cactus blend, but had a lot of fungus gnats that never really went away, but this blend is much better. Some monstera plants I just transplanted had been looking sad and were slow to grow, upon repotting with this soil, they are now thriving, and I have new leaves already starting to unfurl after 2 weeks post repotting! I highly recommend this!.

This is the best potting soil locally available, as far as I know. Miracle Gro soils contain artificial chemical fertilizers, which are unbalanced for plants and soil. Milorganite is a travesty – using the sludge of human wastes collected from the Milwaukee water treatment plant as “organic fertilizer” deceptively leaving the buyer unaware that human feces also contain excreted heavy metals, pharmaceutical drugs, chemotherapy, parasites, etc.

, which is not what most people want on their food. Happy Frog also has the fungi that enable plant roots to take up nutrients. Just putting fish meal or kelp or worm castings or any other outstanding natural fertilizer on potted plants (which is needful, because the soil doesn’t have all of the microbes and worms, etc.

, that garden beds should if treated well), doesn’t automatically get the nutrients up into the plants. That takes the fungi. If you are growing vegetables and fruit organically in containers, this is the soil to use.

Happy Frog Potting Soil is my number one go to for most all my potting soil needs with the exception only to cacti/succulent potting medium. When unavailable at my local Farm and Fleet, I am known to drive to the nearest Farm and Fleet where product is available.

When using other standard potting soils, I must amend the mix with additional Pearlite, worm castings, horticulture charcoal, and peat moss to ensure good drainage, soil microbes, etc. Not only are these additional products costly, I have the mixing mess to clean up as well the extra time invested.

With Happy Frog, all I need to do is open the bag and start potting! All the amendments mentioned above are already perfectly blended into the soil as well additional beneficial ingredients. First things first, for all of the reviews complaining about a moldy layer and some gnats resulting from this soil, keep in mind there is manure and compost in this mix. It is going to need to be turned and cared for.

Use a little Neem Oil and dawn dish detergent diluted in a bit of water and you should be fine with the gnats. I would not use this soil for inside plants because of the gnats, however. Great for the garden if you are willing to do the maintenance.

Higher quality soil needs a higher level of attention. We love this soil for our gardening. This brand is hard to find at times so load up on the 2 cu ft bags when you see them on sale for less than $35.

Just my tip.

Ocean Forest No Good ! it use to be a good soil but this is the 3rd straight time i bought it & it is very dense once water is added to it. i use breathable fabric pots & the soil is still water logged for days causing the roots to rot & or not grow at all because soil to thick & heavy.

i used ocean forest for years before & it was great but they changed the contents for the worse! i know i can add perlite but i shouldn’t have to because for years i never had to so don’t buy. i will be looking for a better soil from now on, shame on fox farm for selling garbage.

I love and swear by this soil! It’s for my indoor plants. Everything you need for plants to thrive are in this bag. It is mostly formulated for indoor tropical plants, but it can be used in an outdoor garden.

I bought 2 5 quart bags for $35 on Amazon. I know that this company has their own website that you can purchase from as well. Amazon is just super easy for me. If you’ve got a miniature garden growing in your house and you want to see them thrive, than I would say you won’t be disappointed with this.

I love this 20qt bag of Coastal Maine Acid loving plant soil. My sickly gardenia is now testing low ph. Praying this turns it around to glowing health!

I used this soil to plant Camelia and other acid loving plants. I don’t see anything wrong with that. My plants are happy.

I have been growing my cannabis in this for years. So far, I haven’t encountered a bad bag. When I use this soil, I usually will use it for two grows, but it might be able to be stretched for a third.

I have been doing two grows with it and recycling the soil for my vegetable garden. I also dump the twice used soil on my neighbors gardens and they do appreciate added nutrients. The pH’s do run around 6.

5 on average, perfect for pot. The price is starting to get high though. Since I have been using it, the prices have gone up 80%, that might tell you something and hence the 3 star rating on value. This is great stuff to get you started until you learn how to mix your own soils.

If your a grower and want a good medium for all stages of growth, this is the best dirt I’ve ever found. It’s PH is perfect and will stay that way as long as you PH your water. If your a grower, then you know how important the PH is.

Plus it’s totally organic which is a BIG plus. If you use the foxfarm trio fertilizer, the buds will be really big and sweet. Good luck! Just make sure it says foxfarm on the bag and shows the picture of the happy frog.

I was excited to see @smokeyrgreens announce rosy soil and immediately went in on a 4 pack with a friend. I have been sitting on it because I haven’t had the right project for it until this week. Honestly, you just know from the moment you open the bag that it’s quality.

Has a beautiful soft texture when dry, and holds a surprising amount of water while still draining well. I didn’t feel the need to add much/any soil amendments based on the quality of what was already there.

I’ve planted a few plants in rosy soil so far, including some propagations, so I’m excited to see how they settle in. Love the mycorrhizae built into the soil, love the bio-char… I just ultimately cannot find a single thing to dislike, and I’m hard to please.

Clearly a lot of thought went into this. The team should be really proud! Definitely give it a shot.

Rosy first caught my eye because of how environmentally conscious the brand is, and I couldn’t wait to get it. It’s treating my plants extremely well right now and they’ve never looked better. This was my first time using a Keto mixture as retaining walls for bonsai. The mixture came double sealed and ready to use out of the bags. The mixture packed together easily on the pot a d held it’s shape through the first watering.

Will be buying again.

I use some mucko for my forest and stone plantings. Arrives nice and moist and works well. Sometimes I mix a little extra acadama dust in to give a more clay like texture

We have found that adding Muck-O to our peat/potting soil mixture for making Kokedamas really helps hold our soil/mud ball together well. I will definitely be purchasing it again.
