The book is about a grumpy old man called Ove, who wakes up every day to end his life because he is all alone after passing away of his wife, but each day something or the other happens which makes him to postpone his resolve.

Ove has hard time coming to terms with people around because he doesn’t like people much and he reluctantly help others because he is literally dragged into such situations where he has the least say (even if he does have a say, it is mostly overruled by himself ).

But still he does. Though he might be sulky but he possess a loving and kind heart which keeps in mind the memories of his wife Sonja and tries to do as he think she would have liked him to do. The narrative of the story is crisp with dollops of good humor, which makes it a very gripping read.

The experience is almost that of watching a movie, it is so vivid I could visualize it for the entire length. But I felt that this book was really much more than just a story of an old man coming to terms with his life.

It was also about the notion of giving because living is not merely about what we can take from life, it is also about what we can give it back. To receive happiness and kindness in one’s life is blissful but to be able to give it to those in need brings a tranquility, which can make the life more meaningful.

I strongly believe that this process is cyclical. A giver gives and the receiver receives and the cycle moves on and in the process the giver also becomes a receiver. I felt this book very elegantly brings this about, focusing on the inherent goodness, all the while also managing to be light and humorous.

As Ove’s story unfolds, you learn about his childhood, his loves and losses, along with everything else that comes to eventually define him. My three words to describe Ove are: hardworking, honest, and hardheaded.

This wonderful novel touches on the different stages of life, love, and loss. It was a bittersweet reminder that tomorrow isn’t promised and that things can change in the blink of an eye. Backman perfectly depicts the loneliness and feeling of irrelevance that often comes with old age.

This sweet but incredibly heartbreaking book holds such a special place in my heart. Fredrik Backman is one of best writers EVER. His novels always leave me thinking about the storyline and characters long after I’ve finished the book.

He is a literary genius and his writing style is perfection. One of the best things about his works are the characters and this was also true for Ove. I laughed so much reading this one but it definitely also tugged hard on the heartstrings.

The change in pace throughout the story was amazing and the character development was incredible. You can’t help but fall in love with all of the characters in this book!.

Going into this based on everything I heard I had expected Ove to be something along along the lines of Scrooge from A Christmas Carol; a grumpy old timer that discovers he has a big heart. It turns out Ove has always had a big heart; he is just strong willed and strong principled and doesn’t put up with any nonsense! His interactions with the other characters are hilarious and heartwarming; especially with Parvaneh and her children, and the cat of course! Ove has easily become one of my favourite all time characters and I didn’t want this book to end.

Being a pretty young villain from suburbs of Russia, and living most of my life in a country where schools are very nationalistic contemplated poetry that I’ve read only to national literature and Russian classic (ex-ussr).

Even through english is my 3rd language I’ve had pleasure learning it from mass media and online games throughout my 13-18 years of life. Sometime ago I went on to change my priorities, my views. I’ve heard about this book approximatelly 7-8 years ago, back when I was watching TV series “Lost”.

Back then it didn’t mean anything to me as I was too young to open my mind to something so new and uncommon. A few weeks ago I ordered this book, and two days ago I started reading it. From the very first page I was sucked into it so deep that I’ve spent 6 hours reading it with the help of a vocabulary.

It was a harsh path, but after understanding every single word and emotions of the author I’ve understood that J. Steinbeck is the writter to go for everyone who is trying to get a different view on life and understand the beauty of something so different.

I will not go into the details of the scenario so I don’t spoil the pleasure for everyone who hasn’t had the opportunity to go through it yet. Characters of this book are not very emotional, they’re not sci-fi.

They’re just as real as they can be. This book speaks a lot about the harsh path of people living differently from the community of big cities. The way it’s written blowed me away. After reading a lot of Russian classics, such as Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Pushkin I felt no regrets after trying something that is out of my comfort zone.

Being specific, every book is a matter of taste. I am myself a person with deep understanding of psychology and philosophy, as well as great skills in Engineering which I am currently studying for as my bachelor’s degree.

This book has everying that pleases my mind. Liars, upstarts, curators, wise and calm, innocent and stupid, as well as “simple” characters. Most of them have same ambitions, but all in all they’re represented in every single possible way.

Words that are used here make the book have it’s own life, so influencing that even a person who didn’t like rereading the book again is currently doing it now just to go through the amazement and beauty of it for another time.

There’s a reason Steinbeck got a nobel prize for his works, and after reading this piece of art I understood that he deserved it. Book is short, but it does what it has to – influence a person, transfer emotions, feelings and teach someone to be less cynical and more open-minded.

Not a must-read for everyone, but definitely is one for everyone who wants to feel ashamed for some people while being proud for the actions of some simple, but extremely courageous ones.

The novel opens with two workers who are crossing the country on foot to find work. George is a cynical, irresolute man. George looks after his companion, Lennie–treating him like a brother. Lennie is a giant man of incredible strength, but has a metal disability that makes him slow-to-learn and almost child-like.

George and Lennie had to flee the last town because Lennie touched a woman’s dress and he’d been accused of rape. They begin to work at a ranch, and they share their dream: they want to own their own piece of land and farm for themselves.

These people–like them–feel dispossessed and unable to control their own lives. The ranch becomes a microcosm of the American underclass at that time. The climactic moment of the novel revolves around Lennie’s love of soft things.

He pets the hair of Curley’s wife, but she gets scared. In the resulting struggle, Lennie kills her and runs away. The farmhands form a lynch mob to punish Lennie, but George finds him first. George understands that Lennie cannot live in the world, and he wants to save him the pain and terror of being lynched, so he shoots him in the back of the head.

The literary power of Of Mice and Men rests firmly on the relationship between the two central characters, their friendship and their shared dream. These two men are so very different, but they come together, stay together, and support each other in a world full of people who are destitute and alone.

Their brotherhood and fellowship is an achievement of enormous humanity. They sincerely believe in their dream. All they want is a small piece of land that they can call their own. They want to grow their own crops, and they want to breed rabbits.

That dream cements their relationship and strikes a chord so convincingly for the reader. George and Lennie’s dream is the American dream. Their desires are both very particular to the 1930’s but also universal.

Ink splats everywhere so bad you cant read the writing, cover is falling off has major water damage and most pages are ripped! I am appalled with this as I purchased this for my English lessons and now I do t have a book because this is so poor condition! I cant believe they didnt mention that the condition was like this, I am apapled! I do not recommend buying here unless the photos of the inside is shown! Not worth value at all!!!.

15 March 2013 Book Group Notes on ‘The Sense of an Ending’ by Julian Barnes I found this a well written and interesting novel. The narrator gives us an account of growing up with close friends at high school and then his student years when he meets and forms a relationship with a very complex girl.

When he is invited to her home for a weekend it becomes clear that she is the product of a rather dysfunctional family and background. This experience appears to have a lifelong effect on him. The relationship ends and the girl then has a relationship with his closest friend.

He later marries, has a family, but even though all seems amicable on the surface, the marriage ends in divorce. He still is on good terms with his ex wife and daughter. He philosophises a lot and would have been a psychologist’s delight.

His past comes to haunt him when he receives an unexpected lawyer’s letter and old memories surface. The outcome of the story is quite unexpected. My main impression was how experiences in a young person’s life can have lifelong repercussions and consequences.

Young people, especially when they have grown up in a sheltered environment, are vulnerable and may be unprepared for situations life may throw at them. Most parents have plenty of worries at this time.

Hopefully in this day and age, with young people being exposed to modern media, they are more ‘worldly-wise’ when are faced with unusual situations.

This is a reasonably easy book to read. Whilst I enjoyed the book, the ending was lacking. The author takes you on a fantastic journey, great character development but ultimately the ending let me down.

it felt rushed. Still, it’s a good read.

My first J. Barnes book, a novel kind of conversation with a surprising ending. I suspect it is one of those books which will linger in my mind and make me review my opinions, prejudices and assumptions.

More than enjoyable I am off to discover more about what this Man’s writing has to say.

“We were like gods at the dawning of the world, and our joy was so bright we could see nothing else but the other. ” The Song of Achilles, set in ancient Greece ‘in the age of heroes’ follows the perspective of protagonist Patroclus and his life’s journey up until the trojan war.

Patroclus, strong willed, yet weak bodied, son of King Menoitius, is exiled to the court of King Peleus of Phthia where he comes into the acquaintance of Peleus’ son, Prince Achilles. The unlikely relationship between the two evolves from a hazy friendship, later maturing into one of intimacy, tenderness, and love.

Madeline Miller presents this elegant and devastatingly beautiful story, contemporarily reimagining Homer’s mythological tale ‘Iliad’. This reconceptualisation of a tale as old as history presents modern and ancient philosophies of changing gender expectations and the influence of power and agency over the aspirations of both male and female characters.

As far as queer literature goes, this is absolutely one of the most perfectly and beautifully crafted pieces ever written. I found that regardless of the gender of the two protagonists, this book merely showcased two people, who, were simply and utterly, in love.

As a historically fictional and mythological retelling, Miller characterises the heroes, gods, and men over the course of the book, achieving this by emphasising the importance of honour, pride, and legacy.

Personally, I discovered that the characterisation of Achilles after he receives a prophecy from the Fates before the battles at Troy, alludes to the suggestion that, after the battle, ‘his honour is all that will remain’.

Miller skilfully articulates historical jargon throughout the book, in such a way that it would be comprehensible to anyone who wishes to read it. After finishing this story, I would unequivocally recommend this book for anyone over the age of 15 interested (or not) in ancient Greek mythology.

To those who wish to read this story, be prepared to have your heart – metaphorically – ripped into a thousand tiny pieces.

Madeline Miller is a sweetheart and a goddess for this one. I love the song of Achilles, and I will always have a place in my heart just for it. This is one of those books that you never want to finish, you know it would break your heart but you still read it and after reading it you sit in your tears, and you wish it has a different ending or at least a resolution in the ending that goes like, “and then they lived happily ever after”, but I guess we don’t always get what we want.

Not a summary but my wishes, likes, and dislikes: Anyway,I’m glad that Thetis later chose the right thing the do and redeemed herself. I didn’t like how Briesis ended, I dislike phyruss and I kinda like that he died.

I didn’t have any dislike for Hector, he was a good man who was fighting for the honor of his family. I despise Agamemnon because he had a hand in what happened to Patroclus, although Achilles pride was a huge contributor (reminded me so much of Arthur and Merlin).

I wish patroculus dad would’ve known the brave, strong man his son grew up to be. I wasn’t happy for the man Achilles became after the death of Patroclus. I wouldn’t say I was happy, happy at the end because I don’t think they found peace, but I’m glad that at least they found something almost like peace in the darkness of the afterlife.

This is my first greek mythology book. Considering I haven’t read greek mythology, I take into account that I can not compare them to one another but at the same time, I feel you shouldn’t compare books as they are different from one another.

But this book in my opinion in reading greek mythology was interesting and made me understand and learn more about this type of genre. In fact, if you ever choose to read this book, it will shatter your heart into a million pieces.

The plot revolves around two boys growing up with and realising that their love for each other is far more than the traditional brotherly love that is anticipated between two men. The Song of Achilles features an exiled prince who is so charming and skilled that he is ready to be the greatest warrior of his generation, a prophecy, a never-ending conflict, and a thousand emotions related to each chapter of the book.

This book also includes some Greek mythology and is fascinatingly fantastic. Would I read it again yes definitely, I think I still need to understand the concept of greek mythology to get into it,but it was a good read.

Good chemistry between the two main characters, good story. Both characters are no-nonsense when it comes to business.

Any Elvis Cole and Joe Pike novel is fabulous!! This one is no exception – a real page-turner!

I am a big Crais fan. This was good but not great.

This is a very nice version of one of my favorite books. It is a little bigger, and has a nicer cover than the standard paperback version. I’d recommend this edition to anyone who is looking for a “deluxe” yet affordable version of this classic.

As a middle school teacher, I have used “Of Mice and Men” for decades. It is ALWAYS the favorite book of the year.

This is truly a heartfelt story. As always, I personally, think you would enjoy reading the book before you see the movie. It’s impossible not to feel compassion for all of the characters involved. It will pull at you until you finish it.

I picked up this copy to read with my daughter for her Freshman required reading in High School. It’s my third time around, but it’s just as enjoyable as the first. The way Steinbeck creates relationships without sentimentality is amazing.

He brings a new level to the feeling of “brother from another mother”. his writing continues to astound me decades after it’s considered relevance.

A really good book that impels one to read more and look for hidden meanings not only in literature but in human behavior. Many facets to explore.

I expected this book to be in used condition because it was so cheap but it was pretty bartered. Had writing on the first page, some folded pages and was generally very worn. Book and plot it’s self was wonderful and would recommend.

This book is simply amazing. I recommend it to all. I would describe it as Arthouse and is quite different but very engaging. Really gets you into the mindset of the main character George.

Wonderful read. Sarah Winman is a writer of great human sensitivities who conveys relationships and emotions simply, beautifully and poetically.

Wished this book was twice the size. I marvelled at the authors subtle way of developing the plot and the wonderful characters with so few words. Loved it loved it loved it!

The Children of Men is a total departure for P. D. James whose intricate and fascinating murder mysteries have delighted fans for decades. This novel is essentially science fiction but without the science.

If you can suspend your disbelief in the underlying scientific details which, even in 1994, are a bit silly, the story is worth reading for the beautifully drawn characters and the human story. I’m glad that I read this book and I was emotionally affected by the lives of the characters, but frankly I’m still not sure how much I liked it.

Sometimes it’s hard to read a book written about the future when you are already living in the future. Where are the cell phones, computers, police? Certainly when he wrote this book he knew about computers and cell phones.

And more importantly, he only skimmed the surface of what our world would be like if no one else was born. So many REAL issues without a mention. And the movie is NOTHING like the book. I don’t recommmend this book.

The start of the Kingkier series by Patrick Rothfuss. The adventures of Kvothe as told to a scribe. Brilliantly written first novel in the series. A must-read for fantasy fans.

After waiting for what seemed to be a very long time, we have the second instalment of the Kvothe trilogy. On first impressions it is the most beautiful book I have ever seen, just lovely, like you want to mount it on the wall and will brutally eviscerate anyone who disagrees that it is truly lovely.

But to the more important things. The words, the story, the continuation of the legend. Without giving it all away of course. Kvothe learnt a lot in the first book, called the wind, hatched some crafty plots, killed ‘dragons’ and such, as well as having all of his family killed.

Not that much happens in this one. Half way through the first book I realised that there was no way this would be a stand alone book (plus it said so inside the cover) and the second book makes me wonder if the trilogy will in fact be a mathematically accurate one.

I always thought that after the story in the bar you’d have him going out and doing some more stuff, but with the current rate of events it seems he might need to say up all night telling stories to be anywhere up to the places where he should be.

However that said. It is a large book, I did blow off two job interviews because I was reading it and probably didn’t get the third job because I was reading it during the interview. If you’ve read the first one you’re going to buy it no matter what, if you haven’t read the first one go read it and then you’ll read the second one no matter what.

I’m waiting till I can order the third one from MightyApe, because as soon as it’s out I’m going to be calling in sick days.

This book has bee one of the greatest reads of the last hundred or more years! With every page we learn more of the world in which Kvoth the bloodless resides and the beliefs of the people whom he deals with.

Beginning where the first book (Name of the Wind) left of: we learn more about his past actions he blames for the recent dangers loose upon the land, we learn the truth behind the fables illustrating him as both hero and villain and his passion for Denna whom rarely shows up when expected.

From beginning to end this book will hook you, for each chapter you advance; it will amaze you and just when believe you know the outcome of events; it will surprise you. Patrick Rothfus has given us quite a gift from his vivid imagination and the time taken to write this second book was well worth the wait for his readers.

If anyone loves a fantasy book rich with detail, humanity and real story telling then this novel is for you. Kvoth is the man many wish they were, the man many hate to become and someone to aspire to in so many ways.

Yet he is still human.

I googled a book that I’ve found extremely hard to find, ‘The Illustrated Man’ (and with order conditions that suit me),ie. avoiding Amazon’s buy more goods to qualify for free delivery, or the appalling condition of EBay goods.

Having found the book I wanted on The Tank Museum website, I was delighted to have found an alternative to the ‘big’ web stores. Ordering was so easy and I was delighted to donate during the checkout pages.

Delivery is offered on various options, I chose first class tracked. My Illustrated Man book was not, ‘very good’, ‘used acceptable’ etc. etc!! It is as brand new as a book can be and I am truly delighted with my purchase from The Tank Museum and it will be a favoured place to go to browse and buy from a wonderful selection of books with quality of service an absolute given.

I have bought this book at least ten times since I discovered Ray Bradbury in the early 1960’s. The book is way better than the movie. A book allows you your imagination to explore the recesses of your mind.

I end up giving books away to share the compelling stories or helpful information. This copy is for me!.

Physical book quality was good, for a used book. Actual book content is easy-to-read and simple to understand. Contains adequate stories, although, they seem to have been written for middle school-level readers.

Not rich in insightful stories, but are somewhat interesting.

A great read for all ages. An exciting story, very well written. The author has won many awards. I would also highly recommend another of his books, Winterdance. Also about the Northern wilderness, and his attempts to run his team of dogs in the Iditerod race.

Very funny in parts, and one of my favourite books.

As the final book of the trilogy, it is not difficult now, to see why all 3 books have achieved such a status. This is writing of such depth, imagination and such a compelling read. If you read a little and are not hooked by the first book, Northern Lights, then stick with it, as I did for another half hour.

Then I just couldn’t put it down. The same with The Subtle Knife, by which time I couldn’t wait to get the next book and on to the final one, The Amber Spyglass. Brilliant compelling writing from Philip Pullman and by the way I’m male and 66 years of age.

Just try these books!.

The very last line on their disclaimers is about library books. While I dont mind that, any value is trashed with the taping and adhesive to the book and dust cover. They have so many disclaimers to negate any complaint.

But I see you, and I wont order from you again. Christmas present gone awry.

This book is a great read and an exciting conclusion to the trilogy. I found it compelling and mesmerizing, as well as surprising. It will definitely leave you wanting more, which is great since there’s a follow up to the trilogy.

I would definitely recommend this book to a friend. Anyone who reads the trilogy won’t be disappointed, especially if they’ve read John Milton’s “Paradise Lost”. You get to appreciate both works even more.

Overall, it’s a great product that was fairly priced and in excellent condition.

My first time reading Hemingway, I was disappointed, not with the style nor content, but because it was too short. The story left me wanting more. When Santiago is out in his boat, I could feel the heat of the Sun, smell the salty sea and the waves making me rise and fall with him.

Most acutely, I felt his experience of aloneness and eagerness to land the giant fish that pulled him farther and farther away from land. I now live in anticipation of reading more from this great author, and completely recommend this short, but powerful, literary masterpiece.

My journalist father was 4 years younger than Hemingway. There’s a story that they met at some point, but I have no details. When I was a high school senior, Dad gave me “The Old Man and the Sea”, saying, “This is how it’s done” – a high compliment from my very exacting word-crafting father.

I’ve read all of Hemingway’s books, this one more than once. “The Old Man and the Sea” is classic, then and now. The title almost, but not quite, says it all. Enjoy.

Like Hemingway’s writing style to convey interesting ideas with few words. I felt like I was in the boat with the old fisherman, living his life experience.

When I was told I had to read this book in high school, I didn’t expect myself to fall in love with it and read past the assigned reading. It was phenomenal and really brings every emotion to life that was felt during the Holocaust.

The descriptions are very thorough and it should be read by a more mature reader, but the book is a great read. It is one of my all-time favorites. If you’re looking for further knowledge of the events during the Holocaust, this book is perfect.

Elie Wiesel is an accomplished nobel prize winner who spoke volumes in a very short story. Compelling reading for anyone who wants remind people of the horrors that occurred in WWII.

This book is a must read for citizens of the world–to read and contemplate what the world would look like if tyranny ruled. It is heartbreaking that millions of people are still being terrorized and condemned because they are of a different race or color.

We are all made in the image of God and deserve love and respect.

It even takes a POV of the kidnapper and killer. It begins with the abduction of a child – Neil Spencer, just like the ones some 20 years before. DI Willis has some experience there – he was the one who put Frank Carter away.

Spencer volunteers in the search for Neil. Willis is also haunted by the fact that the body of one of Carter’s victims was never found. Carter was called the “Whisper Man” due to the fact he would whisper at their windows prior to their abduction.

Tom Kennedy (a recent widower) decides that he and his son Jake need a fresh start. Interestingly it is Jake who picks the house in Featherbank after seeing it online. And, Tom hopes that once they move, things will get better.

But that doesn’t happen. Jake talks about a boy in the floor, butterflies, and then there is the strange rhyme he claims to have learned from his imaginary friend: “If you leave a door half open, soon you’ll hear the whispers spoken.

If you play outside alone, soon you won’t be going home. If your window’s left unlatched, you’ll hear him tapping at the glass. If you’re lonely, sad, and blue, the Whisper Man will come for you. ” After a near break-in, Tom investigates his garage and makes a gruesome discovery – one that connects with his own past and the past of DI Willis.

Then Jake starts hearing “whispers”. This was “Silence of the Lambs” with a hint of the Slender Man Urban Legend. Terrifying, riveting, and a page-turner. The readers will be surprised as to who Tom’s father is, who Jake’s imaginary friend is, and the connection between the new killer and the old one.

Tom Kennedy, and his son, Jake, move to a new town after the death of Jake’s mother. Becoming acclimated to a new town is hard for him; even harder when young boys go missing in town. ⠀ ⠀ Please be aware that I have listed trigger warnings at the bottom of this post for those who may be interested in picking this novel up.

⠀ ⠀ “The Whisper Man” is a chilling fiction thriller that follows multiple POVs, which makes the flow of the story so much better. I thought I was able to figure out “whodunnit,” and each time I thought I had it, I was blindsided.

The pacing was great; I thought it wasn’t too slow and wasn’t too fast. The only thing I wish it had more of was the thrills. While it was suspenseful, I wish it had more scary scenes. ⠀ ⠀ This is the first novel of Alex North’s that I have picked up, and I know it won’t be the last.

The Whisper Man by Alex North is one of those books that captures your attention instantly and stays in your mind long after the last page is turned. Tom Kennedy and his seven-year-old son Jake move to the English small town of Featherbank to start a new life after the sudden death of Tom’s wife.

It was in Featherbank that, twenty years before, a psychopath had abducted and killed five young boys. Detective Pete Willis did not rest until Frank Carter was arrested and jailed forever for these horrible crimes.

Carter was called the Whisper Man because the parents of the victims reported that their children had said that a man was whispering outside their bedroom window before the abductions. This is another great book by David. I was reading another one of his books when I received this one. I started reading this one a couple days ago and it gets better with every page I read. I will be looking for more books about the Camel Club.

HELL’S CORNER is the fifth in a series of books referred to as the Camel Club. David Baldacci is a favorite author of mine who writes about the Washington D. C. area and leads the reader about town introducing you to historical sites, while weaving a terrific mystery (or in this case several mysteries).

Tho the books do not have to be read in order, I prefer the continuing saga style. Each book is a complete story on its own. The Camel Club members are such genuine characters, I now think of them as real people I have known for several years.

Oliver Stone is back. And the same things he encountered while an operative in the service of the US as John carr, are still alive and well, though perhaps not for him, personally. Oliver sticks with it, though, in spite of the misinformation, deceit, and outright lies he has to work with.

His trusted Camel Club deserves an ovation, too, for the way they can be trusted to protect and defend Stone. The relational bonds formwd over their years of pioneering justice around the US actually serve to run interference from the dark forces working to eliminate their leader.

With the combined effort of each member’s particular skillset, the truth is uncovered, although, at times, it appears the federal departments with egg on their faces, intentionally don’t share. Oliver and his friends, along with a British agent assigned with Stone to solve the case, risk life and limb to reveal the source of the threat.

The enemy is one of those vetted by a federal agency, who over time has endured the instability of her work. So, she trusts noone, and she decides to set up her own retirement program. Ultimately, the real threat is one that has existed since creation: selfish greed.

And the real surprise? Greed trumps personal affection and respect. This culprit will do anything to determine her own destiny!.

absolutely THE best trilogy ever! Christian and non-christians will enjoy these books. Do NOT bother buying just one. these are page turners and one as good as the next. Go ahead and get the set!!! I have read these and given the sets as gifts.

If someone thinks they do not read that much. they will with ” The Mark of the Lion”. Francine Rivers is an eloquent, Godly woman that breathes life into her characters that everyone knows. From the beginning you will continue to turn pages until you have turned the last page in the third novel, and feel badly that it is over.

There’s excitement, romance, heroes, villians, and heroines. What more can I say except that you will only be sorry if you do NOT get this trilogy to enjoy!.

Outside of the Bible, the Mark of the Lion trilogy by Francine Rivers, are the best books I have ever read! The research done by the author is outstanding! She makes it so real. I was completely drawn into the story.

I laughed. I cried. I went through about every emotion. All her books are excellent, but these are by far the “most” excellent! I have read them twice and am looking forward to reading them again. I have purchased these books two times before and lent them out – never received them back.

I am purchasing two sets this time, one for me, one to lend out! I love all of the Francine Rivers books I have read. My first one was “The Atonement Child”, “Redeeming Love” was next. Then, “The Last Sin Eater.

” “Lineage of Grace”, “And The Shofar Blew”, “Her Mother’s Hope”, I can’t remember the others I have read. I even read “The Atonement Child” with my class of High School Junior girls, ten years ago in Literacy.

I bought all eight of them a book and had them ask their parents for permission to read it. Several of the girls mothers read the book also! This was in a public school – amazing, huh? I asked the librarian in our school to put some on the Accelerated Reader program, so the kids could read them for points towards their goal.

We have “The Atonement Child” and I am donating “The Mark of the Lion” trilogy to the library. She is getting the accompanying tests! I am so excited!.

I could not put the books down, managed to read all three is less than 2 weeks. Superbly written – makes you feel like you are right there in late first century Roman empire. Nice cast of characters.

A few ‘preachy’ sections, especially in the third book but still an enjoyable read.
