20 Best Fiber Source For Dogs (2023 Updated)

My chihuahua has digestive issues so I was really hoping she would eat this but she won’t even take the smallest bite. Tried everything. She does normally like beef and loves the Stella and Chewy lamb flavor as well as previously chicken.

Maybe it is just the added probiotics. Was gonna try the regular beef. Such a shame as seems like a great product which is why the 3 stars. Probably just my dog, I gave it to a friend with a big dog as they eat everything.

Wish dog food companies would do tiny sample packets so we don’t have to spend so much on huge bags which this one only came in a larger size.

I have a finicky Super Corgi Mix named Howie, who has very discerning taste. He is 16 1/2 years old now and while his appetite is okay, it isn’t the best *(he has never had the voracious Corgi munchies), so getting him to eat, can be challenging.

He has been indulging in Stella & Chewy since I adopted him 8 years ago but goes on strike with all food I give him, including canned foods, these last 2 years, along with making roasted chickens with broths and mixing with whatever I could get him to eat;ground lamb, beef steak so on.

I had recently noticed if I sprinkled my collagen onto his canned food, he REALLY liked it and would most times, eat it up. Low and behold ~ Howie came out of his food strike with this particular version of Stella & Chewy Hip & Joint Boost! I typically used to add Stella & Chewy dry, crumbled on top of his kibble for added pawsome nutrition but as he has aged, I wanted to make sure the dry fly away of the crumbled food, didn’t end up his old nose or end up aspirated into his lungs so I did what I did when I first stated purchasing these packed with a punch nutritional products 8 years ago and started adding water, along with a generous portion of Stella & Chewy’s and his fav kibble~making a delectable stew and he was in! **even through his food strikes, we have relied heavily on Stella & Chewy products for high nutritional value-ESPECIALLY now, when he needs the added values to his diet.

at 16 1/2, nutrition is impactful. We love the fact Stella & Chewy has never had a recall. This company provides nutritional, tasty food and offer really great savings with periodic sales that help us load up on all kinds of goodness so we are thankful for that! Howie loves all of the Stella & Chewy’s products~he has also tried the Beef with probiotic, the duck, game bird, beef, lamb, chicken, red meats~actually, we have tried every one of Stella & Chewy freeze dried | frozen & the raw coated kibble is really yummy too!.

My dog suffers from allergies and scratches non-stop. He gets allergy shots every few months to help but he still scratches and bites after a month or two. It’s to a point where he’s lost fur on parts of his body from licking and scratching.

We changed his food, tried different shampoos, added oils to his fur, basically everything then I came across this and after 1 bag he’s so much better. Now that it’s part of his daily meals, he’s happier and his fur is finally growing back.

I ordered this twice. It says Case of 12, but only received ONE can each time. So WAY overpriced. Do not order!!!! However, the product itself is great!!! Give a spoonful to my two border collies at each meal.

I was afraid to buy this product since 12 cans was a big commitment, so I bought individual cans on Amazon. After the second day giving this to my greyhound, I’ve started to see much better stools. Much firmer and easier to pick up.

Game changer. Saw better results with this than the pumpkin powder add-on.

So, I have a German Shepherd. He’s a rescue and has had stomach issues literally since the day I brought him home two years ago. Lately, though, he’s been gnawing at his butt a LOT and the vet just kept insisting it’s “probably anxiety” because he also licks his paws, but something told me to ignore them in this instance.

He normally has an enzyme thing added to his food to help keep him regulated and whatnot (I know I can tell when he misses it) and that just seemed to be a bit too much right now. So anyway, I bought these to see if his poop was just too hard and that’s why his bum was bothering him.

So far, it has definitely softened his poop. His stomach is so sensitive, I only gave him one at first and now he’s at two, even though he’s 100lbs and it says 1 per 20lbs. Two seems to be perfect for him.

His poop is soft (sometimes a little too soft, but hey! He seems happier and isn’t straining as often!) And for the most part, he’s eased back on the butt gnawing. I’m calling it a win for now. Overall, the product does do what it says it will do.

I don’t do reviews often but this stuff is amazing. My dog is 14 and on anti convulsants for her seizures. She has been struggling for what feels like forever. I tried everything from holistic to prescription.

Nothing worked. She was so uncomfortable she was wining and wouldn’t let me touch her tummy. On a whim and prayer. I tried this stuff. 3 days later. She was back to normal. She is her old self again.

I am blown away! She never misses a day now.

These soft chews worked for my little Yorkshire Terrier like nothing else we tried. After two weeks of being clogged up (the x-ray showing his backed-up intestines at the vet were frightening), introducing these soft chew stool softeners did the job that Miralax, Dulcolax, pumpkin, olive oil, fruit juice and yogurt could not do alone, when added to his food.

Seeing a fairly normal stool after three weeks of seeing him sick is the proof I needed to consider adding these to his food from now on.

**WARNING!!** Our 3 Yorkies got violently ill & our 4th baby died. During our last training session with our dog trainer for my four Yorkies on 10/1, he suggested switching their food to Stella & Chewy’s Raw to help manage their weight and get the right amount of nutrients that I may have been missing by making their food myself.

I purchased the food the following week and began transitioning them. I noticed our 4 yo female had stopped eating intermittently and began having diarrhea. I took her to the vet as an urgent case since it was Saturday, almost 1 week after transitioning them.

They ran tests and gave her anti-diarrhea medicine and said to stop the raw diet immediately as it was making her sick. When we got home from taking her, our 10 yo female started vomiting and having diarrhea.

An hour later she began vomiting blood. I rushed her to an emergency vet hospital where they stabilized her but were at max capacity so they had me take her to another hospital where they took x-rays, ran tests and gave her oxygen to stabilize her breathing and medication to control her diarrhea but stated she probably only had 24-48 hours to live.

The vet said to stop the Stella & Chewy’s because it was bad for them and gave me a replacement dog food. Thankfully she started recovering within a few days. 3 days later our 2 yo yorkie began having diarrhea followed by our 10 yo male two days after that.

I immediately got our 2 yo into the vet where they evaluated her, ran tests and gave her the same anti-diarrhea medication which began working the following day. Other than loose stools our male’s diarrhea got better with his hamburger & rice diet and a little pumpkin, and he didn’t show any signs of distress.

We flew to CA Thursday morning and he was eating and acting fine. Approx. 5 hours later our Pet / house sitter called to say that he wouldn’t eat his dinner or drink water. The following morning she called to say she found him laying down outside which is unusual and he still wouldn’t eat.

I told her he probably had an upset stomach and let me know when she returned from work, if he still wasn’t eating or acting right. She called us crying hysterically that afternoon saying he was in our room and he wasn’t moving.

Unfortunately he had passed during the previous 8 hours. Since the only thing that changed was their food and 2 weeks after starting it and $3k in vetrinary bills, three of our 4 babies became violently sick and on medication and one passed away.

We are in shock, distraught and sickened by what has happened and I will never recommend Stella & Chewy’s to anyone.

my French Bulldog has terrible allergies. Tried other products that eliminated chicken, turkey, grain, potatoes and other ingredients I was warned about. Had her on fish, had her on lamb had her on a very limited diet and the itching persisted.

Started using Stella & Chewys Pork ONLY and after about 2 weeks it all disappeared. No more itching/rubbing to her belly or her paws. She finally can feel comfort. I have not tried any other flavors with her because the pork is working so I am sticking to it.

She gets nothing else. I soak the patties in water for a little bit before feeding it to her and let her have the left over juice and she loves it. The people who are complaining about how hard the pattis are need to soak the patti.

only down side is that this product is difficult to find in local stores. Today is a perfect example because my weekly Chewy order is not here yet and I am out of food for her. Supposingly it will be here this afternoon.

With that. I will be stashing and extra bag away for emergenices so this will not happen again. If you have a bully try this product. my girl is doing great. She no longer needs her benedryl either and I do not have to pump her with any allergy shots.

She is happy and feels good. I have learned by reading ingredients in many other dog foods that they are not what they say they are. A lot of products will say chicken free but still use broth. Stella & Chewy is a good clean healthy diet for your dog that has no fillers and none of the ingredients I have been told to keep from feeding my bully.

Not an easy task to find so I am glad this product was recommended to me by an individual who had a Chinese Crested with severe allergies as well. THIS WORKS! just give it a little time. It is not a cheap product but it saves me lots of vet bills and saves me lots of worrying about how to make my dog feel better.

She has been on it for a good while now. I give her no other dog products/food and no table scraps so my next search will be for a Stella and Chewy treat that she can have and will not trigger any allergic reactions.

As much as I would like to give her many of the goodies/snacks sold for dogs to enjoy I would much rather hold back and see her feeling good. it took me what has felt like forever to figure out her allergy issue so hopefully this works for YOUR doggie too.

I’m only giving this 2 star because my dog seems to like it. I will not purchase this again. I figured I would try this instead of Freshpet because it was getting hard to find Freshpet. I read so many great reviews and got it while I had a coupon at the pet store.

It’s super expensive at regular price. It’s not very easy to prepare, you have to crumble up the Pattie’s then rehydrate them. It smells absolutely disgusting. My dog does eat it and seems to like it but it has caused nothing but issues with her stomach and bowels.

I transitioned slowly like it said on the packaging. She’s super constipated and also had diarrhea on and off and you can just tell her stomach is hurting most days. With Freshpet she was totally different, pooping twice a day consistently.

Never had stomach issues. Maybe reconsider this food if your dog seems to have a sensitive stomach.

If you have a dog that has the occasional tummy issues, you’ll understand me when I say that I used to always keep a can of pumpkin purée on hand in the pantry. But I hated that once I’d open a can, I’d have to use it all within a certain amount of days before it goes bad.

Sometimes, you just need a tablespoon or two for a day and then you’re left with a can of pumpkin. I also started having trouble finding canned pumpkin purée in stores during the spring and summer. So when I came across this, I was excited to try it.

Mixing it up was super easy and my dog was licking her lips watching me (and got to lick the spoon!). I love that I don’t have to worry about wasting a can of pumpkin and can always have pumpkin on hand now.

I added it to her kibble and even used some on a lickmat which she loved! As for effectiveness, I’m sold. One of my dogs favorite chews are beef cheek rolls – the only problem I have with these are that they can make her super gassy (I’m talking clear out a room gassy!).

So after she had a chewing session with one, I added some of this to her food for her next two meals and oh my god, it worked! No more nasty “clear the room” gas lol. And her stool was firm and healthy.

I’ll definitely keep a can of this on hand at all times.

I have ordered this item twice before. It has been a great product. You can smell the pumpkin upon opening the canister. Not so with this order. I mixed. up a serving without paying much attention. Then I noticed it was brown and runny.

Normally it’s orange and thick. It usually smells like fresh pumpkin with a little apple aroma. My Pomeranian didn’t want anything to do with it and she usually is crazy for it. I notified Chewy of the issue along with the Lot #31321-2 and exp 05/01/2023.

They issued me a replacement can which I received as promised the next morning. Unfortunately, this can was the same lot # and exp date. Mixed up, it was the same as the previous can. So, back to Chewy Live Chat.

I received a refund due to them not having a replacement of a different lot #. I continue to love Chewy. But, I don’t think I will order this item again. :'( Thank you Chewy for your wonderful customer service.

My Husky German Shep. had recently been experiencing impacted gland issues out of nowhere. It had happened back to back within 6 months. It was very difficulty to find something to help with her stool to prevent these issues.

Something that was not an inflated price can of pumpkin or sold-out during the holidays! I came across Native Pet Pumpkin Powder and she LOVED it. She also has not had soft stools or impacted glands ever since.

Another thing I noticed is she no longer gets gurgle noises in her stomach or gas. This stuff is really amazing, really aids in their digestion and makes them comfortable.

I have an extremely active 7 year old rescue that I take on off-leash runs to get his “zoomies” out almost every day. With that being said, I had concerns about the health of his joints when he is older due to how much he is using them now.

I reached out to my vet about my concerns with this and he agreed, and recommended trying a joint supplement that contained Green Lipped Muscle in it as it is a great source of high quality Omega-3 Fatty Acids and also provides ingredients that help support the rebuild of healthy joint tissue and enhancing joint lubrication.

My dog can be a little picky at times, and since it was a powder I decided to initially split up the servings to twice a day so it wasn’t overwhelming for him. He really didn’t have any issue with the split feedings, so I tried switching it to just his morning meal and he eats it right away with no issue! It feels great knowing that I am proactively supporting my dog’s joints for when he is older and running around to get his energy out may be a bit more difficult for him.

I recommend this for any dog that is highly active, whether they are older or younger to be sure that you are supporting their joints.

Probiotics work on a very individual basis and I’ve had to find ones that work for me – same for my dog. It took trying a couple brands until I tried this one. My dog had severe gastrointestinal problems coming to me as a rescue.

After multiple vet visits and no resolution with their attempts and other probiotics, I put him on these along with my vet recommendation of a generic Prilosec. His entire gut has reset due to this and he’s never had diarrhea again.

It took about a month but I will never take him off these. He gets two every night and the Prilosec wrapped in cheese before bed. He loves his treat and the change has been amazing for gastric reflux and diarrhea.

Highly recommend.

My miniature Dachshund was losing weight extremely fast to the point we thought she was going to die. She was eating everything in her path but she would not keep the weight on. When she would go to the bathroom her stools where huge cow patties that were a bright yellow color.

And right after she finished her food I had only a few seconds to get her outside before a mess happened. I took her to multiple vets and had loads of blood work done. Finally the last vet diagnosed her with EPI.

He put her on a prescription enzyme but the cost was too much for me to continue that brand. He then recommended this type of enzyme that is considerably cheaper but works just as well as the prescription one.

She has now been on this brand for three years and has never been better. I would totally recommend others to at least try this brand before looking at more invasive options to help their dog’s EPI issues.

I got a rescue German Shepard. She was 3 years old and very skinny. I started her on a good grade dry dog food and tried different canned food to top her food. She was having stress diarrhea and stomach issues.

I did figure out that lamb and any dairy products are extremely bad for her. She has a horrible food reaction. I’ve done the rice, and pumpkin trick including Slippery elm. Slightly firmed her poops.

My brother recommended diatomaceous earth (human grade only) and fermented goat milk. (Answers and primal both make a great product. ) the store bought goat milk isn’t fermented goat milk so no probiotic from that.

This did help quite a bit but still not as firm and as small as it should be when your dog is getting all the nutrition out if their food. My vet told me to try this out. So we went to goat milk 2 times a day.

Diatomaceous earth about 1 tsp morning and Synacore in the evening. About 3 days and way better. After about 3 weeks I stopped the diatomaceous earth and now she just gets Synacore. I cant speak any more highly about this product.

She loves the beef flavor and her digestive system is back to normal. Try this product for your pet. Only use 1 flavor of dog food to rule out allergies. It really works.

My little rescue puppy had soft, almost diarrhea, poop for weeks. He had it in his cage at the shelter when I adopted him. When I took him into my vet for his puppy checkup I mentioned it. The vet gave me a handful of these and within one dose pup’s poop was like it should be, firm and easy to pick up.

I give him half of one packet every day now to keep that good bacteria because everybody knows how fun it is to clean up soft, almost diarrhea, poop from a puppy learning house training! I highly recommend this product and will probably taper him off as time goes on, but will keep a week’s worth on hand.

My dog’s vet recommended this brand of probiotic, so I bought it. My little dog is a 15 year old, 10 pound Maltese. She was reasonably healthy, but had not energy and slept all the time. I bought this product simply to keep her healthy, but to my great surprise, her energy level increased by 100% and she seems like a different dog.

My dogs allergic to brewers yeast so it was great to finally find a probiotic for her. Since we started these she has had solid and more regular movements.

This has got a lot of great ingredients. Mini cat food supplements won’t even list the amounts of what they have in their product. And most of them have half of the ingredients that Life Extension does.

I trust Life Extension. I take many of their supplements as well. I figure if they are good enough for me they’re good enough for my eight year old kitty. Here’s a tip for your cat to eat it though. Just start out with a little bit on their food and slowly work it up.

My cat is an 8 yr old rescue and came to me at 17 pounds so I have to give her well over the two scoops that are only for 9 pound cats. But she doesn’t complain I’m surprise she eats it because she’s very picky.

Remember cats do not have nearly the amount of taste buds that humans do. Of course if she absolutely would not eat it I would switch but she did and honestly is more active in this product. I pay $40 for an online product from A “Vet”.

She would be worth it if I noticed a difference but I did not! On life extensions products she actually runs down the hall ☺️.

We started using psyllium supplements almost 8 years ago, after we lost two horses due to sand colic within one year of each other. If you feed on the ground or have your equine in turnouts with no vegetation, you NEED to add psyllium to their diet.

Fiberpsyll is available in a 40-lb. bucket that is convenient for those of us with a large “herd” and smaller size containers for those with fewer animals. It is easy to administer as our animals readily eat it with their regular feed and seem to really enjoy the taste.

Like previous posts. their hay is not the same quality as years past. Last year I bought 3 / 5lb boxes and 2 were good , but my newest order of the same quantity was all stems and very course, very little nice green tender leaves.

My rabbits wont even touch it ! The new quality isn’t at all better than my 50lb bale I get at the feed and seed store which I use for the litter box for my rabbits. but that was only 50 cents per lb.

not $2. 50 per lb. Their hay used to be good and the bunnies loved it. but now its only fit for the litter box. I will be returning immediately. VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTED.

I had been purchasing American Pet Diner Timothy Hay for many years. For the first several years, the quality was excellent, and this was the only company I had found that sold the softer, second cut Timothy Hay, which many of my small pets preferred, as well as the first cut, higher fiber with seed heads, that provided variety and more roughage.

Plus they both have the longer strands that encouraged them to pull and forage. A couple of years ago I started encountering some inconsistencies with their hay, but I kept with it, knowing that an organic product will not be the same every time.

At first, I started noticing more and more dead, brown leaves with both versions, when there really hadn’t been any before. I also noticed that sometimes it did not have a sweet smell to it, and there would be dust throughout the product, not just at the bottom of the box.

Then came a batch (of the Gold) that had clumps of what looked like peat, or worse, dried dung in it; I was not sure because despite leaving a couple of voice mails with the company, I never got a call back from them.

Then one time the Gold apparently got mixed up with the High Fiber, and all of the gold boxes and high fiber boxes I was sent were identical. The only explanation was that the High Fiber had been mistakenly labeled Gold, as the strands were stiff and full of seed heads.

Just this month, however, I got the worst batch ever and I am done with American Pet Diner for good. The Gold was about 90 % dead, brown, dusty, bad smelling hay. The High Fiber was not much better, only more yellow than brown branches, and it too was dusty and smelled bad.

In short, neither could have any real nutritional value, and if the company was having a bad harvest, they should have shown some integrity and pulled their product from sale. Thankfully, Drs. F & S are always willing to do right by their customers, which is a lot more than can be said for American Pet Diner, and they refunded me my money.

Whoever harvested/packed this product at the American Pet Diner plant/warehouse must have seen they were sending their customers an inferior product. This has been a terrible waste of time and now I will have to find a way of disposing of it.

I doubt even a goat would eat it, it’s that bad, and it’s too dusty to use as bedding for my small animals. A sad end to what was once a great brand of Timothy Hay.

I am always looking for new hay and a better deal for my bunny. She has gotten to the point where she only likes second cut hay, so I decided to give this brand a try. I have given it two stars rather than one because it is a good price and is softer than some second cut hays, a good thing.

I know that the box of hay has a shelf life of YEARS. Perhaps this is true when the hay is bagged as is Gold. However, having grown up on a dairy farm, I know full well hay does not stay fresh for years.

This is by far the driest hay I have ever purchased. The green pieces were dry and extremely dull in color, faded. There was not a hint of freshness. I understand the issue of brown, dead grass. My box had about 20% brown grass which bunny does not eat, a higher % than I have ever seen.

Bunny is very adept at picking out and discarding the inedible brown grass; it gives her something to do. However, the brown pieces are so numerous and pervasive that she ends up using much of the rest as litter.

I now have to order another, more expensive brand having gotten little benefit from my 5 pound Gold purchase. This is the worst, stalest, most unappealing hay in color and odor I have ever purchased.

As always, Drs F&S were quick in shipping, accurate and well packed. This negative review is not intended in any way to reflect poorly on them.

Works great. I have diverticulitis and this helps with regularity of bowel movements. The pills are large capsules and each serving is 5 of them, 3 times per day, so it isn’t for everyone, but if you have a normal pill/vitamin regimen already started, you should be able to add this.

Great price compared to major label brand.

My local Sam’s has not had these in stock for some time so I was thrilled to find them online. You see I need these to stay regular and avoid mud-butt. I like the caplets as apposed to the stuff you have to mix, that is way to much effort for me.

Seriously who has time for stirring and mixing and then drinking. Also these have no sugar.

This product is excellent. I have used the sachets for my dog and she is so much better. You just sprinkle the sachets on the dog’s food, (which does not seem to affect the taste of the food) and hey presto, after a few days all is well.

Her poos were really very loose and difficult to clear up (apologies for being so descriptive) and she was just not herself. Since using this product she is now much better, happier and all is back to normal.

I would highly recommend this product and do hope you find it just as good.

OMG from first giving my Westie Mac his first tablet I instantly witnessed a complete cute to his gurgling stomach and the bile that often came up when he had tummy upset. My westie has had ongoing gurgling for many months.

Lots and lots had been tried defore I ordered Yumpro Bio Activ tablets. The day the tablet arrived his wee stomach had been gurgling throughout the night. Honestly 10 minutes after giving him the tablet the rumbling stopped.

Two weeks have past and he’s had a tablet everyday. To date the wee man has never had a gurgling stomach nor has he had bile. I am totally blown over by the dramatic difference and cure and I mean cure.

He is a completely different dog. He eats better and he’s no longer looking sad with his stomach issues. I am so so pleased I was introduced to this wonder tablet. Please try this product you will definitely see immediate results.

I am one very happy happy customer. My only criticism is the coating on the tablet. I would have preferred a smooth shell like coating which would make swallowing and administration easier. This said it’s a very small point.

The overall tablet/medication is awesome.

My shih tzu suffers from ulcerative colitis and I was led to believe by my vet that this would improve his gut and bowel immensely. Although it helps some of the time it is very expensive, at over a pound per sachet every day.

He has been using these for several years now and I believe the quantity per sachet appears to have diminished over time.

My 5 year old cocker spaniel has always had to have his anal glands emptied around every 4 weeks. He was very unhappy about having it done last time so had a Google and found this. Thought it was worth a go didn’t hold my breath it would work as we have tried so many different things in the past with his diet.

We are now on the 4th week since his last vet appointment. No scooting (normally he would be multiple times a day by now) poops a lot better more formed and normal looking (he poop was always hard just a bit more crumbly and small before).

So far this has really helped so even if it only makes his trips to the vet less frequent I’m still very happy. Highly recommend anyone with a dog with anal glad issues gives this ago! Wish I found this sooner 🙂.

my dog has had colitis for most of her life, she is now 8. she suffered sickness and bowel problems and her diet has always been a cause for concern. some things suited her fine for a while then problems occured.

This was kind of a last resort to try, recommended by our vet, before she was going to be put back on medication which we didnt want for her, it made her lathargic previously. So, we have now purchesed our third, ( I think) tub and so far there has been an improvement.

no sickness, which was my main concern as it was mostly air and water or grass which she consumed, as she tended to do if feeling sick. I tub lasts about 1 month, using 1 scoop am and pm. I will keep using it for as long as i feel it is working.

This product has proved to be nothing short of a superb addition to every meal that I give my dog and after having eight years of having to make so many frequent and expensive trips to my local vet with stomach problems, namely collitis which gave my dog the permanent runs,including regular early morning bouts of sickness, I have found the perfect product, and have saved a lot of money for giving the poor lad anti-biotics.

Our dog has always had anal gland problems , we started useing profibre for a while but he was still having problems. I tried Fibor and its brilliant much better for him we havent had any vet trips for months since useing Fibor.

Will definitely keep him on this now , daily with his food and he likes it too.

Any dog that suffers anal gland problems can benefit greatly from this product. It was recommended by my vet for my little Shih Tzu who suffered a major incident (one of his glands burst) even though he had not shown any symptoms prior to.

I’ve been using it for both of my dogs since August 2019 and, to date, Fibor appears to have done the trick (being no further detectable problems like “flop bot” as James Herriot would say. ). Well done Fibor and well done my vet for suggesting it.

Does what it says on the tin. Been using this for a couple of weeks now and can clearly notice the difference and see the results and effect it is having with my dog. Really happy with the product

I was skeptical of this food at first. The people in the pet stores are trained to push their own brands that are either owned by the same company that owns the store, or brands / product lines that are exclusive to distribution through pet stores.

This obviously makes sense from a business perspective, but they scared me about Royal Canin’s ingredients. Fortunately, my veterinarian is extremely knowledgeable and explained to me that these ‘grain-free’ dog food cause dogs heart problems later in life, and lots of the smaller brands have quality control problems and limited veterinary science involved in designing those foods.

Dogs needs a balanced diet to live long, healthy lives. Going from a food that looked better on the ingredient list, to one that has real science behind it is comforting, although it did scare me that the first ingredient is rice, and I can’t pronounce half the ingredients in this food.

That said, the results are undeniable. Dogs (littermates) are healthy and GI issues cleared up. This food definitely works as advertised.

My girl has had GI issues off and on since she was little, and more acutely over this winter. A couple of weeks ago she was diagnosed with pancreatitis, and the vet recommended switching to a permanent low fat diet.

She can also be a fairly picky eater, even when she’s feeling well. While I’ll do anything to keep her healthy, I was bracing myself that she may not care for this dietary change. Gratefully, this hasn’t been the case! If she doesn’t finish a meal right away she still always finishes it… a welcome change from any previous diet we’ve tried! And while I understand some reviewers’ budgeting concerns and limitations, I was pleasantly surprised that it’s not much more expensive than the food we used to get.

That’s not what I expected when my vet recommended a prescription diet. I don’t think I’ve written such a glowing review of any product before, but I’m just so grateful to see my gorl feeling so much better.

When my poodle turned 9 or so she developed what I would discover was (after a lot of veterinary bills and multiple visits) chronic pancreatitis. There was bleeding, vomiting, and I thought I was going to lose my “best friend”.

“Normal” dog food is no longer an option for her, ditto 99 percent of “people food”. This is what was prescribed and it has done a great job of keeping her mostly stable for almost two years now. The food is very expensive and I don’t like that she needs a prescription for it, but it really, really works.

At the direction of the pet hospital my dog goes to, I am able to mix it with cooked white (never brown!) rice, microwaving both for about 15 seconds in the microwave before mixing it up and feeding her three small meals each day.

Before giving your dog anything people-food-related, of course please make sure to check with your veterinarian like I did: every dog is different. Using the rice helps keep my dog fuller for longer, stretch the product, and also makes cleaning up after her on daily walks much easier.
