20 Best Fender Amp For Blues (2023 Updated)

I have had many amps over the years, mostly Fender and mostly tube. In the past my experience with solid state was always negative (except the Orange RT35 which I regret selling). I’m not gonna gigging anymore and don’t need the 70 watts Fender Baseman tube amp I chose and actually downgraded to the Fender Champion 20 because I needed something small, and quiet enough for home use at night with young kids.

It still gets loud enough to play with a bass player or other guitarists over video chat. I thought about the Fender Mustang line but as an IT professional I’ve see tech obsolescence daily. I didn’t want anything that needed firmware updates or won’t connect with whatever cell phone I may own 10 years from now.

No one can beat Fender at clean amp sounds. I traded in a Supro Blues King 8 at my local guitar store and came home with this amp. Although there’s many amp voices and special fx, I find myself using Fender Champ for some dirt and 65 Deluxe for clean.

I switch between Spring Reverb and Slap Delay effects. For the type of music I play (oldies, rockabilly, and Johnny Cash style country) I don’t need to switch between clean/gain or turn fx on/off mid song.

I like how the power cable us removable and the same three prong cable as a computer. If you need a longer one they are online. I also like how the fx are built in. Living in a 100 year old house, with LED bulbs in every light, and dinner switches in every room as well as playing a hollow body guitar always resulted in noise in my signal chain making me go insane.

This amp is quiet and I would record with it. Only complaints are minor: makes a pop sound training off which is notoriously common with solid state amps either on, off, or both. And no built in tuner like the competition.

Verdict this entry level amp is a hidden gem in the Fender line. If you prefer traditional amp interface go with this over a Fender Mustang.

This thing definitely holds its own against other amps in it’s price range! It’s very simple and easy to use, unlike say a Boss or an Orange amp, and you can easily get decent tones for recording or practicing.

The only reason why I didn’t give this 5 stars is the lack of a mids switch and that you can’t save amp settings like a Boss Katana can like flipping between cleans and dirty channels, but then again it is an amp under 150, so don’t act too surprised.

Overall I am extremely impressed with this amp and would be my top recommendation to any beginner out there or pro who wants a practice amp. I don’t know why, but they don’t sound that impressive in a store, but in a bedroom the sound can easily make a bedroom feel like a rock concert.

I knew the the product, I appreciated the spec…. but I had no idea there was such a shop! As an internet buyer I can’t speak for the face to face abilities of the staff but if the service is anything to go by they are Amazing! I ordered the combo on a Sunday morning to find out it was coming from Germany….

it arrived 2. 5 days later. Amazing! Finally, the price. Talk about value for money…. I was looking at the best price being 20% more than I found it for at DV…. when I found it at DV of course there was no turning back – an Amazing price! All in all the purchasing experience with DV has been A1.

I bought this amp to have a small, cheap portable amp to play harmonica through. For that, it is decent enough. I use a Shure bullet mic and the amp produces good enough tone and is plenty loud for practice or small gigs.

When I plug my tele into it the clean channel is decent and clear, but the overdrive channel is junk and hurts my ears. I would rather run the clean channel and use a fuzz or distortion pedal. So that being said it is decent enough to practice licks on and it is tiny so it tucks away easy.

If you look around you can find a bigger amp with more features used for the same price but if you want a new amp, this one is probably worth what they charge for it. I would only buy it if you have a specific purpose for it though.

I have the cousin of this amp the sp10 with only volume, bass and treble controls and overdrive button. The reason I’m making this review is because this amp might get overlooked and I believe it’s a very decent practice amp.

When I was learning to play guitar I only used the clean channel because the overdrive channel sounded horrible ie. fizzy. Couple years later, after getting better at playing guitar and developing proper touch, I realized that you have to use your guitar volume to add the amount of overdrive, distortion and fuzz.

Basically, turn the volume on the amp to the desired volume level and then use your guitar volume knob to add in amount of distortion you want. You also have to mute strings otherwise you’ll get mush.

These amps are really musical if you know how to play guitar. The best feature is its portability and plug and play. It’s loud enough for home use playing by yourself to backing tracks. For learning guitar you really don’t need anything more than this amp, imo.

I have about five amps and 11 guitars that I use. some are more high end and expensive amps and guitars and some are cheap and basic gear. As far as portable amps, I also have a Fender Champ 20 and an Orange Crush 12.

Similar to the Orange Crush 12, this amp only has basic controls. Which is actually not a bad thing. Very easy to operate. In my opinion, this sounds better than the Fender Champ 20 a bit and is easier to use.

The Champ 20 has some settings you can change. But, nothing really useful in my opinion. The Frontman has very basic settings and it also has a clean and overdrive channel that you can select. It has a pretty good level of sound and is perfect for practice.

You are not be able to add a bunch of effect with this amp to match a complex sound. For that, you will definitely need pedals (delay, etc). But, for a small portable amp, this does a wonderful job. I keep this amp and a basic squire guitar in my office and sometimes when I want to take a break, I play a little.

Even with no one in the office, i never turn it up more than 4 on the volume knob. I think for a portable compact practice amp, this is one of the best at the price point.

Full disclosure: I am a drummer and this is my first amp. I wanted a small Fender tweed amp for practice that I wouldn’t have to upgrade later. I looked at the Blues Jr, Pro Jr, and the Champ. I chose the Champ for the one knob simplicity and the hand wiring.

This amp is small but loud. It can do low volume clean for bedroom practice and loud overdriven for recording/rocking out. I was surprised at how loud it can get for 5 watts. The overdriven sound that it gets is amazing and it’s all in how you pick the strings.

The build on this amp is high quality and very sturdy. I think I will have this for the rest of my life.

I’ve owned all different kinds of amps over the years–Fenders, ToneKing, Boss, Roland, etc. Had always heard about the tone generated from the little 5W 8-inch Custom Champ at a relatively high price point and was super skeptical.

Count me as a skeptic no more! I should’ve bought this years ago. My favorite setting is to use the Second Input (-7db) and crank it all the way up to 12 and then moderate the breakup with the dials on either my Les Paul Standard with P90s or ’52 re-issue Telecaster.

The sound is just glorious even without pedals. But it also takes pedals like its namesake, a CHAMP. I added a Strymon Flint for Reverb (found that the 80s Reverb really adds a depth to the tone) and a Transparent Overdrive.

You get Neil Young Crazy Horse-like tone with the Les Paul and the Tele sounds great too. This handles cleans to gritty bluesy chunk. It obviously does not do metal, and you wouldn’t be looking at this 5W tweed amp if you were a metal player anyway.

It will keep up with most drummers, but add a Sennheiser and thread it through the leather strap and hook up to a PA if your drummer is extra angry. This is indeed the best amp I’ve ever owned. Buy it NOW.

This amp has excellent build quality, save for one minor issue (in my example anyway) and sounds stunning. However, even at 5 watts, it is much too loud for my situation, so I ended up returning it. The gory details.

The pine cabinet is built solidly and finished nicely. The chassis build is top notch too. This amp pretty much exudes quality all around. Sonically, it sounds great. The pine cabinet in tandem with the 8″ Weber speaker sound really good – full and pleasing.

It sounded fine with the stock 12AY7 preamp tube, but I swapped it out for a 12AX7 and it sounded much better to my ears. More gain and breakup slightly earlier in the volume range. So why just a 4-star rating? Well, the amp had a low 60 cycle hum that was present anytime it was on, even if the volume was at “0”.

A web search confirmed others have noted this issue. My amp tech explained: Fender did a great job in recreating the exact design as the original (save for some electrical safety updates). But because this is a single ended Class A design, the power amp section is going to have an inherent 60 cycle hum.

However, there IS a simple fix and that is to replace the input capacitor with a higher uF rating (I did not do this mod). Note that the hum is minor and only noticeable when not playing (in a quiet setting), but it’s there.

YMMV. OK, so why did I return it? Because I am a bedroom player only, and this 5-watt amp is LOUD! To get it to really sing, it needs to be pushed to at least “6” and preferably higher. If you live in a house, say with a basement, and your neighbors are not close, then it would be great.

However, I live in a townhouse and it just doesn’t work for me here. Can’t push it much past “3” (equates to about 80db). I tried an overdrive and that was OK, but the reason I purchased this amp was to get the full compressed, clipping monte of the power tube at a “reasonable” bedroom volume.

So as much as I tried, it did not work for my situation and so I had to return it.

Sound: The Sound Is Really Amazing is it perfect No But no Amp is, I’ve owned Many From Tube Amps to solid state like this the solid state amps are becoming much better and closer to tubes without the hassle of tubes burning out on you, OF course the sound of tubes is nice but this is very close.

Features: I Would Say that the Amp would be Much more useful if it had a Out for Monitor of a Clubs System, don’t Get Me Wrong this Amp Provides plenty of power but a Out To Sound Systems would be A Option that Should be Offered.

Ease of Use: It’s Very Fun And Easy to get great Sounds from this I push the Distortion Side with A Distortion Pedal and Crybaby Wah to get Fantastic Blues And Rock Leads With the Choice of different Amps at the twist of a Knob this Fits in Well for any Situation.

I bought my new Fender Blues Jr v4 about 2 months ago from a guy who decided he was more of a “Marshall Guy After All” so I got a bargain, but that was just the beginning. I wanted to spend some time and several sessions playing with this thing before I rushed into a review, but it turns out my first impressions have been even more reinforced since playing this thing for several hours, and the big word here is WOW.

I have been playing for over 62 years (that’s right, got my first guitar at 7) and bought my first Strat in high school. I’ve played and owned a LOT of different amps, and even now I have a few pieces for which I have some sentiment, but now it seems I will have to seriously reconsider.

Good thing there is no “Amp Limit Law”, but if there was I could finally happily liquidate all the others if I could have just my new Blues Jr. I have read voraciously for years about concepts such as “touch sensitive”, “controlling breakup with the guitar volume”, “takes pedals well”, etc.

Turns out these have only been myths to me all this time until now. Everything good and superlative that’s been written about this amp is absolutely true. The preamp section is like pure magic in shaping the tone and delivering it to my favorite-EL84 power amp section.

I have never been a fan of the usual Fender tube lineup, and when I heard this runs EL84s I was already excited. I am still a Strat guy to this day and love everything about it. But I have never even dreamed it could sound so good.

I have an Egnater Rebel 20, a vintage Crate 15 watt blonde with a Dr Z speaker, and my prior favorite-a 5 watt Epiphone Valve Jr into a 12″ Eminence Lady Luck. I have some others, but nothing I own or have owned can even come close to this thing.

And what has been said about the Celestion speaker choice is again, absolutely right on. The sound from this amp would be as if you had an old Deluxe Reverb, did a cap job, retube, and maybe speaker upgrade.

I guess I’m trying to say that it sounds.

I am very happy and impressed with this “little” amp. I have had good solid state amps, including modelling amps in the past and this is my first true valve amp. The richness and depth of the sound is very noticeable.

Its like suddenly playing in 3-D. It’s very loud for such a small amp so home use is only just cracking open the volume knobs. Can’t wait to open it up properly and driving it a little harder. The reverb has a very large range from subtle to way beyond what I would ever consider using.

I have noticed increased static noise from some of my guitars (hum reduction has been used on previous modelling amps) so its out with the copper foil and conductive paint to start a number of shielding projects (especially my Les Paul!).

A small price to pay for such a step up in sound quality. The only complaint. “Junior” doesn’t do it justice. Its a serious piece of kit.

This little amp is an excellent practice or recording tool. Simple to operate, and with only a tone and volume control, dialing in a great sound is easy. It doesn’t do modern rock music, but it will satisfy those who play blues, or most anything that requires a sparkling clean sound.

Not much larger in size than a tweed Champ, it sounds much larger and is much louder. This amp takes pedals well, and it’s so portable that you might be tempted to gig with it. And you might if your drummer doesn’t hit too hard.

Clean headroom is in short supply, but I can’t imagine this amp won’t please someone who knows great tone when he hears it, and understands its volume limits.

I bought the VR 65 Deluxe from the great folks at the Mayfield Ohio GC a couple years ago. This amp has all of Fender’s best stuff in one package and is the “how to” for coaxing all those thick & rich & crunchy tones from my Les Paul or Strat.

First I’ll confess I am a Fender amp guy all the way and always have been. Just my opinion, but he tones from Fender have never been out-done by any other manufacturer with the exception of boutique amps, but even those seem to be designed around the basic vintage Fender circuitry principles.

I could be wrong about that from a technical standpoint, but most of them sound a lot like Fender amps, but with more sound shaping options. Anyway I’m good with treble, bass, volume. The tube driven ‘verb and tremolo are the best ever made by anyone, same as the originals.

The lush mids pouring out of this amp are really thick with a nice big bite on top so the amp cuts through pretty much anything and everything. Beautiful clean tones that don’t leave you feeling empty or powerless and the tubes crunch up just like you hope they will when you change your attack on the strings.

As you would expect, it’s got more sizzle and sharper teeth with the Strat and more sheer muscle with the Les Paul. Lots of chime with either. I’ve even used it with a J-45 with good acoustic results in case you need a quick switch over at a gig.

22 watts give plenty of volume for bars & clubs, maybe a bit loud for a bedroom and the amp will want to be mic’d for big venues, but you would do that anyway, right? So if you are looking for that classic vintage Fender tone with outstanding tremolo and reverb, this is your amp.

It’s built like a tank. I highly recommend this amp for rock, blues, surf, pop, or country music.

I played a solid state boutique amp for years. It was a 100 watt Pearce amp, with a 2-12” cabinet. As the great Amos Garrett once said, “The older you get, the smaller your amps get. ” I decided to go tube and purchased the ’60s Fender Princeton and Delux Reverb re-makes.

The ’65 Delux Reverb remake is simply the best sounding amp I’ve ever played. I play classic rock, jazz, blues and some world music. It excels, and I mean excels, in every context. Warm, articulate and clean, and the break-up is just so silky.

Just a classic Fender tone. The clarify of the clean tone is outstanding. Can get a great crunch tone as well when you get the volume above about 4. I play a lot of styles and have a lot of amps. I think I still prefer my Marshall JVM for very saturated distorted tones, but have been having a ball trying different overdrive pedals with the amp–which it takes very well.

If you are ok using pedals to craft different tones, this can be a very versatile amp for all styles.

Overall: Have a randall rg200 went to use it last week Turned on overdrive. Popped the fuse. replaced fuse. After about 3 hours popped another fuse. Wife was in living room and said she saw a blue flash.

Tripped the circuit breaker and shut down 2 refrigerators and a freezer and blew a few light bulbs Needed something until I can have it repaired so I bought the Fender 20 amp. ordered it Sunday and it arrived Tues.

So far it has been great. Nice tone,simple operation. Very loud and overdrive is even louder. Quite powerful for a small box. I am very satisfied with it. have several guitars but my Yamaha box guitar sounds really nice plugged into it Not as good as my Randell 200 but wouldnt expect it too for the price ,I would highly recommend it and the way zZounds handled the process.

Only concern I have is I didnt receive my 2 year warranty in the box. would definately recommend this amp.

The spares repairs guitar amps are described as an easy fix for someone with knowledge, I bought this amp as a retirement project and to save these things ending up in landfill. This amp had been kept somewhere damp, all exterior and interior metal parts were rusty, the internal fuse had blown, further testing found the amplifier chip had gone, also the primary winding on the transformer was open circuit.

The transformer is the most expensive part in an amp, the Frontman15 230v transformer isn’t available anywhere, even if it was it cost more than buying a brand new amp, the only other alternative is to buy another 15G spares repairs amp and hope the transformer is ok, but by the time you pay for a second amp you could have bought a decent working or new amp.

I would not recommend buying these spares repairs amps, they are beyond economical repair and any parts in them that aren’t blown are not worth the money you pay for them, the one I have is only fit for landfill, the opposite of what I wanted to achieve.

Im really disappointed with this amp. I know its not supposed to be super loud because its only 10 W, but I was hoping that the sound quality would be better. The sound reproduction frequencies are all mid range.

Sounds like cardboard. Color is grey. Bass and treble tones are all but nonexistent. The eq is useless because speaker cannot reproduce bass and treble frequencies. The sound is very cheap and does not give a representation of the Fender vibe whatsoever.

You are better off just playing your guitar with no amplifier at all rather than using this, because it make a good guitar sound bad. I equate the sound to that of an a. m. transistor radio. Its really bad.

I actually read some of the favorable reviews on this amplifier before I bought it, and Im seriously starting to think that none of those reviews are actually real. There are better practice amps with better fidelity out there, and I would avoid this one if your ear demands quality sound.

I have owned this amp for three years now and it is a keeper. The neodymium speakers combined with the pine cabinet gives it a little more punch and resonance than the regular twin. The taper on the volume knob allows you to gradually increase the volume, which is a nice change from other fender amps I have had where I had trouble dialing in a volume that wasn’t too soft or too loud.

The 13 pounds of reduced weight is also a major plus. If you have ever picked up a twin you will appreciate it. I think a lot of people are sleep on how great an amp this is. Pristine fender clean tones and great sounding reverb and tremolo.

It also takes pedals extremely well.

This amp is stunning. I’ve owned and used a deluxe reverb and a Princeton reverb. I like this amp better than both. It just does more and sounds better. It’s a Swiss Army knife type amp. And the tone is stunning.

It does not take but a few twists to dial in different usable sounds. This is hands down the best amp I own I should have bought this the day it came out.

If you’re looking at this I’m assuming you already know a little bit about twin reverbs. Loud, very clean, great reverb. As far as the GB vs a regular, the lighter weight is huge. It sounds great and is fairly quiet.

There is definitely more headroom than a normal twin. You can actually turn the volume past 2.

This amp has all the great Fender amp models and while I have never owned or had time with the originals, I am extremely happy with the sound that comes from of all the Fender models. With the guitar plugged in, the tones are very pleasing, from the crispy clean tones of the Twin Reverb to the warm tones of the Deluxe to the crunchy tones of Champ.

Very little dialing in required to get a great tone. The non-Fender models did not sound as good to me. I probably use the M/B Mark IIC the most rather than any other model. However, with a GFX unit plugged in, you have to be careful not to overdrive the input or the tones become brittle with an unpleasant buzz and harmonic.

I expect this is true for any digital amp modeller, but is more noticeable in this one due to the great tones this amp already gives without any FX units in front. Without the right input signal and tweaking of the FX unit, the tone will only get worse.

Functionally, things are not as great. I encountered some issues such as 1. Bluetooth connection to phone app will not discover the amp and requires me to switch on the amp twice for some reason. It always seems to find the amp after the second time.

2. The Master volume knob is digital. Thus, it increases the volume in increments rather than a smooth ramp. This is a problem if you are trying to get very low volumes. It jumps from a level of too quiet to just a bit louder than you need as you tweak the knob.

3. Bluetooth can interfere with a digital wireless system. Either the mobile app wont work or the wireless system wont work. None of these are deal breakers. And for the Fender amp tone modelling it does provide, I am happy with it.

If they provided the digital brains of this amp as a GFX foot unit or even a rack unit, I’d sell all my other gear to buy it. I do wish they would continue with more updates, but it seems there is no further development being done on this.

The last firmware update was in May 5th 2020.

Purchased this amp about a year ago based on employee recommendation after being less than impressed by Blackstar and Boss modeling amps. Beyond some initial hiccups with bluetooth connection, the amp has worked without issue.

It has bcome my go-to home amp for guitar and bass since my Roland JC77, Vox AC4, Gallien Krueger 400RB, and Ampeg G18 all lack headphone jacks. The range of amps available is impressive, with the Twin Reverb being a real standout.

The selection of modeled stompboxes is good too, even sneaking the classic Butler Tube Driver in there. The 7 button footswitch really opens up amp utility, allowing access to the built in looper and ability to switch individual effects on/off without changing preset.

Like any amp, it plays better with some guitars and pedals than others but it’s a great complement to a traditional amp collection. It would be a great amp for a new guitarist if that’s not the type to be overwhelmed by options.

Overall I’d buy this amp again and will definitely be keeping it around.

Fairly Good Beginner’s Amplifier. The Clean Channel Has A Decent Equalization Section. Typical Solid State Sound, Not Very Warm But Is Crisp And Good For Electric And Acoustic/Electric Guitars. The Gain And Over Drive Channel Is Just Plain Horrible! I Tried A Jenson P10 Speaker And The Sound Was Improved Greatly! Rated At 15watts But Being VERY LOUD! Using A Leader 100mg Oscilloscope & 2K Test Tone, I Achieved 36Watts Output.

Scratching My Head I Opened It Up. Indeed, I Found A TDA2050 Amplifier Installed, I Believe Switching Out The Low End Speaker For Maybe A Celestin 25 Or Jenson Mod 8 The Amplifier Just Might Have Some Promise.

The Headphone Output Breaks Up At 2. 5 On The Clean Settings And Unbearable On The Gain Settings. The Auxiliary Jacks Are Notorious For Blowing The Amp If You Overdrive The Input. A MP3 Player Or Cellphone Is About All The Auxiliary Can Handle.

Being A Practice Amplifier, At The Price Range And Sound. I’d Say It’s Superior To Any Amp In That Category. In Closing, Out Of The Box, You Actually Can’t Beat This Little Amplifier, At This Price Mark.

For Practice, It Is An Excellent Choice, For Gigging, Leave It Home.

This little amp is quite amazing in sound and features. With the Guitar input, Aux In, and headphone jack it nails the features desired for practice. EQ/Gain control and volume can make a huge difference.

I read the one critical review below about no bass or treble/AM radio sounding, etc. I don’t get that? Probably doesn’t understand the gain/vol/ and boost. or his was pre-owned and maybe had issues. Hey, if you’re expecting the Fender tube sound of a Princeton or Vibrolux or Deluxe.

get real, this is a 10 watt practice amp. For the money, it’s a quality Fender product and does everything needed to practice.

This is a superb amp for practice and home studio use. It comes with 30 editable presets, and space to write another 30 of your own. When you download the free Fender Tone desktop app, for PC and Mac, and connect the amp by a USB cable to your desktop computer, it allows you the chance to audition and download 100 more presets Fender have designed.

I don’t want hundreds of amps and effects pedals cluttering up my home, so I wanted a small modelling amp, and this delivers. 25 watts is more than loud enough for practice, and recording songs. I find that editing the signal chain for the amp and effect models is easier using the app on a large computer screen, than the amp’s small built-in one.

Oh, and Andertons kindly threw in a three-pin UK IEC Mains Kettle Lead Cable for free, to replace the two-pin lead which comes as standard with the amp, which was a nice touch that I don’t think other sellers would do.

The problem is, the cord they give you is power only and doesn’t transfer data, so they kind of set you up for failure. Spent a while trying to figure out why the amp isn’t connecting only to find that info on a message board.

Also, the information they provide is limited; it seems they are phasing out support for the LT-25 to ensure you spend more on the GT. Additionally, when it came out of the package, it had debris in the mini USB port and from other websites, it sounds like the usb port can be a bit touchy (probably because people are jamming objects in the port to get the debris out).

SO, I ask you, what is the point in buying a digital amp if it doesn’t support Bluetooth, and has faulty connectivity issues? Why bother getting subpar gear from a brand that doesn’t offer reliable support for the product? I guess I should have bought the warranty, but with a brand like Fender, I would expect the gear to work coming out of the box.

If you go to the webpage for the LT, it’s completely blank too. I guess I learn time and time again that “budget” gear is a tricky word for a money trap. I should have done my research. Time to go fight my local guitar center employees for a return; but guitar center is a rant for another day.

I have Marshall and Peavey combos that each weigh about 50 pounds. They sound amazing at any volume, but you really have to get the air moving to get the very best out of either of them. I previously had a Blackstar ID:Core 10 as my “grab-and-go” amp and have recommended it to beginners in the past, but recently upgraded to this.

The LT25 is a game-changer at the price and size. Like most digital amps, I’m not impressed with every amp and pedal model on offer, but there are more winners than losers here. I could get by with the Hiwatt and Fender Supersonic models alone.

Many of the built-in presets are actually very good and would serve a new player well without having to get into the (easy to use) menu system. The high gain tones can be tricky to dial in, but the trick is to boost them with an overdrive in the “stompbox” models (like a real high-gain amp, imagine that).

Clean, driven, or absolutely filthy, this little box has probably the best tones of any 1×8″ combo I’ve ever heard. The headphone out is surprisingly good too, sounding like a top-notch plug-in rather than a “beginner amp.

Beautiful looking amp. At first I thought it was a decent sounding amp. It does clean, it does dirty, it’s got a mid-boost, reverb, and master volume, and it can get loud. Then I started to think the cleans were a bit dull.

Unfortunately, I played one in GC next to a 65 Princeton reissue after I bought it and proved my own point about the dull clean tones. The word “boxy” has been thrown around and I would agree with that as well.

The reverb is decent. The distortion is kind of lackluster and the amp was a bit noisey even at low volumes. I read a lot of 5 star reviews about this amp and maybe I got a dud or I’m missing something? I’ve purchased three Fender amps recently and returned two, including this one and a 68 Custom Deluxe reissue, due to noise among other things.

Bottom line for me was that it looked way better than it sounded.

I’ve been playing guitar for almost 50yrs. I own two vintage DR’s and was looking for a grab and go amp for practices and small venue gigs. I A&B’d the black tolex version with Celestion spkr, and the NOS tweed with Jenson had a tone more like my DR’s even with EL84s.

Used twice now at practice/jams and so far am very pleased. Once dialed in with my Ultra Strat it made my ears smile. As I mic my amps anyway I know this amp will be gigable as well. Not sure why other reviews say this amp isn’t loud enough to gig.

Must be playing at other-worldly volume and at coliseum-like venues. Only knock is that I would love to be able to add an extension cab without taking the main spkr out of the mix. that and maybe a headphone jack.

Could use a dedicated ext. spkr out like my DRs’.

I purchased this online, and the pictures make it look larger than it actually is. but only in dimensions – outward size – is it small and convenient to move around. Skeptical at first by its smaller stature, I adjusted its volume and gain enough to discover how the single 12 inch speaker could amazingly amplify the tubes gritty blues sound! The spring reverb in clean mode has a larger than 12″ single speaker amplifier life sound as well! It’s not my half-stack, but packs an amazing punch! The quality in its tweed design is also very nice!.

I’ve been looking for a great, clean amp that would really accent my guitar’s natural sound. I first tried the Blues Junior which was nice but didn’t have quite enough warmth and power behind it, I needed something more.

I did my research and landed on this beautiful Princeton. It has everything that I was looking for. I am an experienced player but also prefer not to have a super complicated setup with switches and pedals and knobs; this Princeton keeps the focus solely on the tone and sound.

Yes, there is a reverb knob which can add a little more, but I usually keep that off. What’s great about getting an amp like this is you really get CLEAN, crisp open/clean channels and can really hear your axe sing.

Because of that, it also allows your pedals to shine without being bogged down with too much of this or that, or in my opinion not having enough power behind the amplification. This amp is perfect for those who just want a clean guitar sound, or who want to throw in an effect here and there and still get everything you want in the sound.

This amp is exactly what I’ve been looking for. My favorite amp of all time is my 65 Twin but is just too loud and too heavy for home use and small gigs. So for the last couple years I’ve searched for that clear, articulate and glassy Fender blackface tone in a smaller/home/small gig friendly package.

This Princeton fits the bill exactly. I had the 68 CPR for awhile and though it sounds great, it isn’t the exact tone I’m looking for. This has the GORGEOUS black face fender clean tones and has a bit more volume and headroom than the 10″ speaker on the 65 reissue.

The reverb is great but the vibrato/term is the star of the onboard effects. So lush and natural sounding. The amp had no problem being loud enough during band practice and small gigs. I’ve also never had a small tube amp that sounds so good at low volume.

Clearly I rate the sound a 5 out 5. It’s absolutely stunning. For the construction and finish I only give it a 4. 5 out of 5. The Bordeaux Tolex is stunning as well as the wheat grille clothe. Such a classy color combo! My only gripe is (and I’m being nit picky) is that there is some glue residue that can be seen where the tolex meets the face of the amp especially on the corner near the inputs.

You can’t notice it unless you really look thigh. Other than that this thing is perfect for me. The looks are what got my attention but sound of this is what stole my heart. This beautiful Princeton will be a mainstay in my collection forever!.

This is a fantastic amp after owning it for 5 months. I constantly wonder about getting rid of other amps and just playing this one all the time. It’s a “just right” amp. It’s extremely easy to get along with.

It sounds good in any room, is less sensitive to placement in the room than other amps I’ve owned, it’s easy to dial in with different guitars. The Reverb & Tremolo always seem just right and easy to adjust.

It seemingly gets along with just about any pedal/effect you run into it, but you don’t need any FX or pedals with this amp either if you don’t want them. If I had to think of a negative it’s the vintage style food switch that comes with it.

You can’t mount it on a pedal board because the back is just press fit and the cable doesn’t detach. I usually just wrap up the cable and put the foot switch in the amp for transport. It’s no surprise these have been popular for decades.

Bought this as a small grab and go. I have had many boutique amps as well as other high end Marshalls, Fenders and Mesa Boogie amps. Right out the box this little amp just puts out some great tone. It also takes pedals very well.

I was not sure about the Cannabis Rex Speaker but it is def a great sounding speaker. When I first got the amp I put it in my closet and cranked it and pounded the speaker for about a hour straight with fast percussive chords and power chords.

The speaker sounded really good out the box but after breaking it in it sounds even better now. I also took those metal feet off and put rubber feet on mine it was super easy to do. Just a flat head screw driver to get the metal feet off and ordered 4 rubber feet from Mojo Tone.

Super easy mod. Anyway this is a great amp. It does not sound boxy either. As I stated earlier it loves pedals. Run a Friedman BE-OD through it and you know what Im talking about. The sky blue color is cool too but I had to get a studio slips cover to protect it.

It’s def a great sounding portable amp that you can play at home or gig with it no problem at all. The master volume is a huge plus. I have a Mesa Boogie Fillmore 50 combo for my bigger venues but I am just as happy playing through this Blues Jr it sounds fantastic.

Fender struck a homer w this one. Got it from GC and it arrived in excellent working condition. Sonic blue looks like fenders dolphin blue. Very close ! C Rex speaker sounds awesome. Slightly different than the original fender cleans but sounds incredible.

This is an improvement over the 3rd version. Improved reverb crex speaker limited edition. Now having played the 3 version I liked it as well. So if I had one I probably wouldn’t trade up. ( Fender is awesome.

) Close race between this and the vox ac15. But I’m very satisfied with the fender. Just something about a good fender amp. Can’t be beat. Matches my pro2 strat perfectly. Plenty of power head etc for 15watt.

This one’s a keeper love it best small amp in the category. MIM but the 2 plants are a 3 hour drive apart so don’t let that determine your choice. Play it and see for yourself. Vox is made in china. It sounds great.

I just would rather have it close to California plant in Mexico than China any day. Both designers are the original fender and vox dealers specs etc. But for my money give me my fender please. ( vintage Greek) also this is my 4th experience with GC.

Not sure about some of the other reviews. But all of my items were shipped fast and in perfect brand new condition every time!! Never had to return anything from GC. Thanks GC and fender for keeping the legendary tones alive and well.

Picked this up at PMT Manchester today. As usual, staff were great and let me try the amps in my price range then left me to it. Got this as an alternative to my vox ac15, which is in need of repair and I need an amp this week.

Some of the other amps were decent, cheaper and had more features, but this just has the sound. I’m not sure if I prefer this to the vox, but maybe. Seems to break up a little earlier and the reverb is nicer- though can’t be controlled with the foot switch.

If you were in the market for a valve amp in this price bracket, I’d give this and the ac15 a go before all others. Would definitely recommend. Can’t comment on reliability as I’ve only played it for a few hours.

I bought a Blue’s Jr. new in 1996. I simply loved it and it sounded really great for many years. The EL84 tube retainer is its nemesis. The spring pressure pushing on the tubes, mixed with the vibration caused the soldered connections to the circuit board to fail causing the EL84 tubes to arc inside and the amp laid down on me.

I used it mostly around my house and never did push it hard. Now I’m trying to decide if it is worth the cost of having it repaired. I loved the amp but I think Fender could have done a much better job with the tube retainer.

I need to mention that I have 2 other Fender Amps from around 1971. They have been trouble free and great amps, they have different tube retainers.

I’d read some good reviews about this amp and thought i’d give it a try. First off, I think it looks great. Then you try and pick it up. It’s got 4 x 10″ speakers but it weighs less than all my 1 x 12″ valve combos! This is so easy to lug around which makes it great for gigging and you can’t beat having 4 speakers moving air behind you.

I’ve plugged a variety of guitars in and they all sound great. Favourite is a Fender Cabronita Telecaster, they are a perfect match. Fantastic clean tone with just an edge of grit when required. The “attenuator” changing the power levels means you can dial in great tone at any volume.

Crazy, but you could even use this as a bedroom practice amp as easily as filling a large venue. The lack of an FX loop concerned me but it really takes pedals well. Even an old Klon clone that i couldn’t get a sound i liked with any of my other amps worked well with this.

Currently I run a HX Effects into the front of it and i’m really happy with the sounds i’m getting. And of course the onboard Reverb and Tremelo are up to the usual high Fender standard. I’ve had this 3 months now and i’m really pleased with it.

It’s my go-to amp. Great sound and as it has no valves it should be reliable and of course it weighs so little! Love it.

For the discount price I paid this is a really great amp. I am very tired of lugging around a super heavy tube amp that sucks down electricity like it’s going out of style. This amp is light and sound as good if not better than the Fender Super Reverb I just sold.

I like the modelling of the various Fender amps. I use the Tweed and Blackface a lot!. The amp can get really loud but in between playing it’s dead quiet. No buzz or other tube related nonsense. I have a pedal board so the effect loop in the front is a great feature.

I have to say I can easily get by with the builtin effects. So far I like the amp and would recommend it. It’s much more than a beginners amp. A pro can work with this amp easily and like it. It would be nice to have an XLR direct out with effects on/off switching, though the AUX works fine for recording.
