20 Best Fastpitch Softball Catchers Gear (2023 Updated)

Bought 1st set around Sept 2020. She had it for 3 mos, only used for two months. As mentioned in my last review she played 5 tournaments, 25 games total. The seam on the inside of the right knee started coming apart.

Thinking it was a fluke I returned it and ordered a new set. Received the new set in early March. Again, she has now played in 5 tournaments, less than 30 games. The seams on the inside of both knees are again, falling apart.

It’s obvious they saw a market for women’s gear and jumped on the band wagon and slapped Jen Schro’s name on it to make it sell even better. No issues with the helmet or chest guard, but considering how integral legs guards are, the quality is poor for the money you pay.

I will be contacting Easton about a warranty and see if there’s anyway to exchange for men’s since the quality is better. The other catcher on our team is using her old intermediate set that is baseball gear and there’s nothing wrong with it and it’s now been in use for 3yrs.

Poor quality, severely disappointed in the discrepancy between how well the boys/men’s is made vs girls/women’s set. I will not be buying Easton again. The price alone, for the set, made my jaw hit the floor. I am a coach and work with kids from 9-college level and have been a catcher all my life. I have a high respect for Jen Schro, but this is frustrating.

One of my players bought this gear and paid $300 for the set. The helmet was too short to protect the throat; didn’t sit on her head right. The chest protector was too short and didn’t protect her shoulder to shoulder.

The shin guards didn’t fit right. They didn’t sit on the center of the knee but fit her shin properly. The thigh guard was too small. In asking the mom how she decided what size to get her daughter, she said she measured her, but didn’t know where the measurements needed to start and stop.

Especially now, parents shouldn’t have to go into debt getting their kids gear and no name should be used to mark up gear outrageously to make money. I am long retired from playing and used 9-12 year old sized shin guards, well into my 30s (and yes I’m short:) I feel like someone should be maintaining, better, Easton’s long standing of quality product for a good price! Just a “dumb” catcher;).

My son has been wearing Mizuno Samurai catchers gear for 2. 5 years. He wanted this chest protector with the orange to match his teams colors. Wow they have made some great improvements to the chest protector piece.

I love the new added chest protection. This gear is the absolute best. My son will not wear any other brand, and for the price it can not be beat.

The gear itself is great and exactly what we were needing. The gear fit extremely well and has some room for growth as my player grows. The only issue was the wrong color equipment was sent and based on the need we had to move forward with using it.

We couldn’t get the replacement for over 3 weeks. It is definitely not the color we wanted and doesn’t match or correlate with any of our team colors. As for the equipment itself you couldn’t ask for a better set.

It is a very well made product and will get lots of use over the next couple years.

16 year old 6 foot 3 Sophomore catcher is in love with his new gear. Comfortable and sturdy. The chest protector is hard and he feels very comfortable behind the plate with his team pitching high 80’s low 90’s.

Shin guards have a knee pocket which helps during long games. Thanks for making such quality gear! The turn around time was quick too. Perfect Christmas gift!.

I give this gear a five star because of the quality. The shin guards and helmet are great for 9-12 yoa if they are in youth equipment. The chest protector is long. On shorter players it will ride up when they squat.

I have purchased two different brands this year and both chest protectors ride up. The manufacturer’s have changed a few areas in design. I have compared both brands to last years gear. Chest protectors are longer, buckles in the back secure differently.

My fix for shorter catcher are to re-stitch the straps.

First off, the photos don’t do this set justice! As a military veteran, I thought this set was a pretty gorgeous. My 17 year old son volunteered to learn the catcher position at the start of his sophomore season since our school didn’t have anyone in the program to play at the varsity level during his Jr and Sr seasons.

I was hesitant to spend a lot of money on gear if he wasn’t going to develop enough to play it for 2 seasons on a regular basis. It didn’t take long to see he was going to be the starter this year and beyond.

So after several days of researching and reviewing the plethora of sets out there, I started sending him screenshots of the top 5 sets I found. He didn’t hesitate for a second to select the patriotic set.

I paid the extra money for next business day shipping. It was delivered in under 24 hours. My first impression: The high quality construction and material should ensure this set lasts for for the duration of his high school career at the very least.

The helmet, chest protector, and shin guards were very simple to adjust for a correct, comfortable fit. I wouldn’t think twice about purchasing this set again if needed.

My 12yo needed a medium chest and guards but a small helmet. With individual pieces impossible to find, I ended up buying two sets, a small so she could get the helmet and a medium for the rest of her gear.

After comparing this gear to EvoShield and Boombah the quality wasn’t there for Easton. Stitching was sloppy and weak. The glue used for the pads inside the helmet was all over the inside of the helmet and the pads didn’t look like they were in the correct place.

I returned both sets and went with a different brand. Must have used the cheapest overseas shop to put this stuff together. Looked like a 8 yo was on the assembly line when this gear was made.

This set is the perfect size for our soon to be 12yr old, with plenty of to to grow! For reference he’s about 100lb and not quite 5′. We debated a lot over the various brands and sizes because the size guides for intermediate sets mad us think they’d be too big.

Not only that we were super happy with or experience with Baseball Savings. I get nervous ordering from new stores, especially something you can’t try on. We accidentally received the wrong color. With one quick (like 15m) phone call I had a return label and a new one being ordered after they checked the shelves to make sure things weren’t messed up there to prevent reoccurrence of the same issue.

I am super happy we chose this set from this store.

This set is great and arrived on time! The package fits snug and comfortably when properly adjusted for fit. My daughter just started pitching and I found out I’m a BAD catcher, her teammates and her all throw with unforgiving velocity and it definitely helps wearing this very well made and well priced Mizuno catchers set.

Now when I’m a little slow on my reaction this protective gear softens the punishment of a missed pitched. I highly recommend if you need a quality set at a price that is fair and reasonable, you’re search is over.

Based on reviews stating this set was on the larger side, I purchased it for my average height, slim build 12 year old, thinking he would still have a year or two in it. The set was too big. The shin guards were just slightly too long, but were very wide and bulky.

The chest protector length and width fit well, but we could not cinch it tight enough for his torso. He likes a close fit. The only part of this set that was properly sized for him was the helmet, which he loved, but we decided to return the set and look elsewhere.

We were so disappointed. I would not recommend this set for most kids under 12, and I would definitely not recommend it for any slim build kid.

I’ve bought two of these for my children’s youth rec. teams. The catchers gear that the city had was way out dated and potentially a hazard so we equipped them with these sets. Great material, well made, and mobility is average to above average.

Protection has its limits obviously. From a catchers point of view there’s little crevices a ball can sneak in and leave a nice welt from time to time. That’s always gonna be a factor as a catcher no matter how much you spend on gear.

Highly, recommend, comes with everything you need except the Mitt. the bag is well made hasn’t ripped even with two sets piled into one bag. The optional throat guard is a huge plus, overall the equipment has stood up to the abuse catchers have to endear.

My two catchers love putting this set on and being the Generals of the field.

We purchased this set of gear so that our daughter wouldn’t have to share the “league supplied” Catcher’s Gear. Also that way we would be able to run drills and work on developing her skills at home (away from team practices).

She is bigger then the average girl her age, in both height and physique, so this set of gear fit her WAY better then the youth sized gear that the team shares. We have only used it for the last couple weeks and so far everything is great.

She particularly loves the knee saver pads and helmet, for comfort and visibility qualities.

I bought this catcher’s gear for my 12U team and it fits my players perfectly. I like that this set comes with knee savers, many catcher’s sets do not come with them. I also was very happy that this set came with a bag for storage.

The color is nice and neutral and so far it seems of good quality. The helmet fits my players very well and is easy to adjust. I am happy with this set of catcher’s gear.

My daughter is difficult to fit – a long and lanky 11 year old girl. 2 years ago we tried on every brand of catcher’s gear we could find, and there was always a piece or two that wouldn’t fit. except when it came to the Rawlings gear.

We had to cinch up the chest protector in back to make it tight, but the shins and helmet fit great. Fast forward 2 years and our youth gear is no longer fitting. Again, we tried on several brands, and finally found an Intermediate Velo.

Once again, the Rawlings set can’t be beat as far as fit goes for our daughter. She is very happy with her new gear and LOVES the stars and stripes!.

The gear looks great and feels solid. My son is 11 at the moment so we’ll be stashing this gear for next spring season. He’ll need to grow into this a bit. Even though I was in no rush for the order, the shipping was seriously long (~2+ weeks).

I don’t know if it got hung up at FedEx for any reason, but this isn’t the first time I’ve had long shipments from Baseball Savings. It’s not a problem if you don’t need the package quickly. It’s just annoying.

I would still order from here in the future, just plan accordingly.

The product arrived home without any issues. Right now I’m continuing to break in the mitt it is coming along and will be ready for the upcoming season.

Was looking for a Fastpitch catchers mitt that would fit a large mans hand and this works great. Had to loosen most of the finger ties but my hand fit great.

All Star gear is great quality. Baseball Savings made it easy to browse, compare and select right equipment for our son. The chest protector is not ideal for smaller size catcher that my 8 year son is.

Due to the plastic chest plate sewn inside the padding. It is not flexible to fit more snug like my son prefers from his Easton Youth chest protector. It pushes up on his helmet causing vision issues.

He will need to grow a little bit taller before this is not an issue. The helmet and leg guards fit perfect and true to size.

All Star makes a great product, but expecting to be able to fit the range of 9-12 is impossible. My average sized 9 1/2 year old will not be able to even wear the chest protector or the leg guards for at least another year.

To even get the chest protector close to fitting right, you have to tighten all the straps completely and then he cannot get it over his head. The 7-9 is to small and the 9-12 is way to big. There needs to be a better option for our 10 year olds.

The helmet fits correctly and probably will not fit my son when he can wear the rest of the gear.

This gear is perfect for my 7 year old. and he’ll be able to wear it for the next couple of years just fine! Fast shipping. Great quality. This is the second set of gear we’ve ordered (10 year old is a catcher too!).

Our 12 year old has grown 4 inches in the past year, and theres no sign its slowing down! Weve had to replace almost all his gear. Since catchers gear is pricey we held off as long as we could. Hes just over 54(all legs) and this set fits him great, with some room to grow.

Protective padding and plastic inserts definitely a better/higher quality than his 9-12 size set. Didnt need any break in time, comfortable first game played, and reasonable price.

Overall the gear is spot on for it’s description. The shin guards is the hardest part of the gear to size up for Youth baseball. My son is 6 years old and about 50 inches tall. The shin gauds are bulky for him.

I think as he gets a little taller this year he’ll grow into them. The chest protector fits well for him. The head gear we had some initial issues with due to it snapping in the back, but we figured it out and is working well so far through 15 games this season.

Everything is adjustable and he will be able to grow into it.

My kid has just started to use his gear but so far everything works great. Considering this was a damaged box product it was half price of the showroom model made it a good value. Gear inside box was NOT damaged.

The gear is rather nice, especially for the price. The helmet is good quality, maybe a little heavy, but very sturdy. The chest protector is very stylish, light weight, and will protect well enough; the S/M size is a perfect fit for my 6 year old daughter who is currently 45 lbs and 3′-8″.

She will be able to use it for two years probably by simply adjusting the straps on the chest protector and shin guards. The shin guards look pretty good. Everything is miniature for your young catcher.

I actually bought the L/XL size since my son is 9. I had leg guards that fit him and someone gave me a chest protector. I only needed a helmet, but for the price and my love of the Mariners, it was too good a deal not to buy the entire set.

The helmet and chest protector are a good size and fit well. The chest protector is a little big, but manageable. However, the leg guards are huge. They are way to big for him. If he has a growth spurt they will fit.

Luckily, we have those other leg guards. You may want to consider a M/L in between size. Otherwise, a very solid set of youth catcher’s gear at a good price point.

I bought this product thinking it was a steal but man was I wrong! The chest protector is basically a cardboard box! It’s literally so thin with little padding you’ll feel every ball that hits you. The chin guards are horrible!! The straps keep coming off and undone! I’m so over this product! The only good was the helmet.

Nothing bad to say about the helmet. I highly recommend you invest in a catchers gear instead of buying cheap junk like this!.

Feels good as it looks. Soft, yet firm leather all around the hand; can’t feel stiffness of the laces (like in a Marucci Oxbow), nor are the pinky and thumb straps flimsy (like in a Rawlings Sandlot).

This is just a well built glove. Snug fit yet stretchy. Deep pocket simply inhales the baseball. I just really like this glove, lads. Would recommend. Good bang for the buck.

Daughter is playing college ball. Normally a center fielder but as a left hander that is long and lean coach is putting her at 1st. Needed a good first baseman mitt for larger hand. Works Perfect! She has always used Mizuno and wanted to stay with the brand.

Easy break in time and looks pretty bad a$$ too!.

I brought this mitt for my 11 year old daughter and she’s absolutely loved it. Her first time catching and she’s mention this mitt was much better than the one her coach had. She’s used it to warm up more than her regular glove at times.

I would definitely recommend.

The glove is definitely not for the more experienced player. The glove does come game ready but not high school senior level. This a good glove for rec ball or just starting out. I asked a question about using it for high school ball, guess it is the level of high school ball is the difference.

Nice size for rec softball, not just fast pitch. Was already pretty soft when it arrived so that was nice. Is a nice looking glove too!

We purchased this for my son’s 10 yr bday gift. He loves it. Picked the colors to match TCU (his favorite college). We already sized it and also bought the Easton Knee Savers to use with this. Great combo.

Can’t wait for him to use it!! For sizing recommendation – it fits him perfect. He’s 4’8, 100 lbs and there is still room for him to grow with this gear.

Everything looks good, can’t wait to put it to use. Heard a lot of good things about All Star gear from top coaches in the sport. Helmet does run a little small. Great customer service, I should be receiving a larger one soon.

I bought this, along with the Jen Schro helmet, when my 10u player grew out of her other catcher’s gear. It is a good fit, comfortable, and seems to be good quality. My daughter likes the snap clips vs.

the usual latch clips most catcher sets use. It was easy to adjust to get the right fit for her.

Nice helmet. Chin piece seems to get stuck on chest protector. Takes some adjustment to get chest protector to the right fit so it doesn’t get caught when tucking chin in when blocking. My daughter is small and still growing into the gear so this could be the reason it’s happing.

Best chest pad I’ve ever seen. Great padding, clips instead of buckles, great neck protection. Just need to know how to replace the buckles (I’m sure they will break sooner or later)

Very good, comfortable helmet. The pros are numerous and important. The pads are comfortable and once it is fitted the mask fits tightly yet flies off easily when needed. It fits on the head in such a way that your view is minimally obstructed by the face guard and not at all by the helmet.

It was a good price and has good style. The only cons are in the chin guard, and they are situational. It extends quite far, which is great for the bigger kids, but little league requires an attached neck guard which now goes so far down it can get caught in the chest pads.

And the chin pad is detachable, which is great for putting the helmet on and aids the quickness of tossing it off (may even be great for a kid with glasses, but we haven’t tested that), but you then have to hunt for the errant pad.

WE LOVE THIS SET!! We purchased the Samurai catchers gear as a set and overall we’re extremely pleased with the quality, safety factors and look of all the pieces. I caution though that the sizing seemed way off to us- we purchased the intermediate choice, ensured measurements would be correct and had tried on in other sets already.

We wanted the Mizuno based on the safety and overall quality of the product-it’s hands down better than others we’ve looked at. The shin guards were HUGE and not a true intermediate size-they would fit a 6foot tall man! We did exchange it all and sized down and from there fit was spot on.

The overall helmet is larger than his previous catchers helmet BUT actually weighs less. I only mention this, as it took our son a minute to get adjusted to the change but he absolutely loves it and the entire set!.

Great helmet that my (12u) son needed at the last minute. The morning after a Tuesday night game, I noticed his previous & reliable helmet (used for six seasons over three years) was cracked along the crown.

We had just purchased the Samurai chest protector, so sticking with the set, ordered this helmet. The helmet is great, with a great look and fit that my son loves. My daughter absolutely loves this glove. She needed something that would standup to the rigors of travel softball tournament play (4 or more games a day) during pool play, and everyday practices. After other gloves simply wore out the Rawlings Liberty has taken the constant use like a champ.

Very well constructed of fine materials and a stunning appearance. There hasn’t been a tournament this year that she hasn’t received a compliment on this mitt.

It is of great quality. Just needs a lot of breaking in. Other than that my daughter loves the glove shes a catcher who lost her favorite catchers glove. Had bought her a glove but didnt like the feel.

This one feels great.
