20 Best Fake Bait For Bass (2023 Updated)

Great bait for all kinds of fish. Been catching creek bass on these. Very cool lure and durable!!

These are some of the best trailers for chatter baits! My favorite feature, is because the Zman elaztech material is so buoyant, and the body of the bait is so thick, these actually stand up straight off the bottom like Ned rigs.

Even when using 1/2 oz jigs/chatter baits. So you can reel for a few seconds and kill it, and it sinks the the bottom then stands up, and then begin reeling again and repeat. I’ve caught many fish doing this yo-yo style retrieve.

I also love the action of the baits. It looks great in the water. They offer good colors, and they are nearly indestructible. I always add a few drops of super glue when sliding them on the hook. I’ve caught over 50 bass on a single razor shad.

The main function for this lure is def for bladed jigs, but I’ve had good luck when using them with traditional jig heads too… working it similar to a soft jerk bait. You can also use an EWG hook to Texas rig it weightless, and it floats for top water fishing.

It’s super versatile. A pack costs well under 5 bucks… and they don’t tear like every other brand.

I recently started pairing the Razor Shadz with my Z-Man JackHammer – Chatterbait. I had been using the Gary Yamamoto Zako, which is similar. The Razor Shadz is so much more durable and comes in a wide array of colors to choose from too, great for any season or water tint.

I can catch numerous fish on the same bait and not have to continuously replace it like I did with the Yamamoto. I have shared this “secret” with friends too and they have reaped the benefits. Great job on this trailer Z-Man!!!!.

A very very good trailer. The material is very nice and different than others. Like KVD Strike King Baits these baits WILL melt and melt everything it touches. But comon, who takes baits out of the plastic and stores them with other baits? DUUUURR I think its common knowledge by now most baits melt upon mixing with others but anyway.

It looked great for the 2 casts that the tail stayed attached. The hard plastic cracked and broke off on the rear of the rat where the tail is attached. I received a replacement from Cabela’s and the 2nd rat also broke in an identical way.

Both lures were already cracked right out of the packaging. The lure looks great but there seems to be quality control issues. This time I opted to get a different lure from a different company. I commend Cabela’s customer service for sending replacements.

I can not believe or describe how incredible this lure is. The swimming action is truly lifelike. Big fish can’t resist. They just can’t. I have caught largemouth, smallmouth, pike, pickerel, even big bluegills! Fish hit this lure with everything they have so make sure your gear is up to the task.

This lure is an absolute blast to fish with too. I have the 6 and 1/2 inch version. I broke the lip on a big rock and needed a replacement. This lure will have a place in my tackle bag moving forward.

The action on this is great. Early morning favorite. The clear bill on the nose breaks at the least little tap also the back quarter is often grabbed and can be separated with a good bads. Suggestions would be a wire from front hook contact to a rear treble and upgrade the bill material.

I bought 13 of these and will be my last 10 without an upgrade.

For two years I have fished with other folks that have used the “Pompadour” its a magic bait. This March I found several on line at Discount Tackle. I bought 4 of them knowing how great they work. The only thing better than this lure is,, the price Discount Tackle sells them for.

Hands down favorite top water bait. Underrated lure. I have almost every color the pompadour jr comes in! Bone white & frog color are go to baits for early morning bite.

This topwater is great. It’s a heavy lure so you should have a decent cranking rod. The Bass hit it hard and quickly if you throw it out right. Give it a nice steady retrieve to make the most noise on top of the water and the Bass will put a hurtin to it.

I really like the lure. The only con I have is that it was pricey but it does catch the fish!.

I catch more fish on the bigger plugs (the stretch 30’s) than on the smaller ones. and being floating plugs, you can idle the boat when landing a fish without a second line dropping to the bottom and getting hung up.

Also i’ve recovered several that have gotten cut off by mackerel strikes on my leader knots.

Bought this as an alternate color to complement the Manns Stretch 25+ 01 Menhaden. Like the Menhaden swapped out the split rings and treble hooks for VMC Split Rings and VMC Single Inline Hooks 7/0. Had to use a smaller split ring than planned.

the QC on this lure had the middle ring so embedded only a smaller split would fit.

Used this lure yesterday 12/18 caught three stripers all on this lure, had a white bunker spoon as well they hit this lure. Great addition to my tackle box. Only change I will make is to change out the treble hooks to singles just my preference.

Will be purchasing more in different colors.

Hard to beat for a jig trailer. Adds a little bulk without being overbearing. I separate the appendages and keep them perpendicular to the hook to imitate crawfish or leave them attached and keep them parallel with the hook to imitate a bluegill or baitfish.

Got the sapphire color for brighter presentation for a jig trailer. Love these craws. Some I see use for swim baits and the action isnt great, but on a jig and let it sit in a pocket those flaps will move with suttle action when the fish are wanting an easy meal.

These and the Magnum versions are the best chatter bait, jig/swim jig trailers out there. Rig them vertical or horizontal and you will get some awesome action. If you are looking for matching jigs/swim jigs check out V&M.

Great for small mouth bass. Works especially well in bright sun with still water. Lots of action on the 4 ‘tails’ seems irresistible for large bass. The smaller ones stayed away though.

I received a pack of the Pit Boss Jr. in a mystery tackle box. It was having a tough day of fishing so I thought I would give the pit boss a try. I have always been a fan of the power worm so it was a easy decision.

I think on about my 4th of 5th cast I landed a 3 lbs bass. I never stopped using it all day and managed to have a decent day. Since then I have caught my personal best bass 3 times using the pit boss.

I think its a big fish lure. I live in Canada so 6lbs bass are not all that common especially on inland lakes. I am a believer I have purchased several more packs I will never go bass fishing without one tied on.

Only down side is as with all power baits they don’t last long. but the darn things work!.

I received a pack of these in a tackle of the month club. Since it was power bait (best baits ever) I had confidence off the get go. First time I used them they produced big time mind you condition where great that day.

I used up the whole bag. I bought more next trip to BPS. Since then I have used them on tough days as well and they still produce where other baits did not. Now I have a 2nd go too bait other than the original power worm (still an awesome bait) I always have a Pit Boss tided on as well cuz fish just don’t let go easier to detect fish.

I like the California color rigged Texas with a 3/0 wide gap and a 1/8 oz tungsten bullet weight. I just bought over a $100. 00 worth of them on the spring fishing sale best time to buy them.

The 5 inchers in Junebug. Had probably used two at a local lake that doesn’t produce a whole lot of fish and didn’t think much of em. Fast forward to this week when I went on a trip to Toledo Bend, post flooding.

First day we couldn’t catch more than a couple fish. Second day. Water was terribly murky, we had 30 mph winds and couldn’t cross the main lake. Stayed in the cove our cabin was on. Had a hunch to throw the Ochos, texas rigged after we tried a bit of everything again.

Sure enough, within a couple casts we caught a 4 pounder. Kept fishing and my girlfriend hooked what was easily a double digit bass that spit the hook when it jumped into the air right next to the boat.

We lit em up on these for a day and a half til we had to go home. We REAALLY had to be careful with them though cause they are a very soft plastic. One fish and they nearly bust in half. Other than that, I am hooked.

I’m back to order more in every color. I will definitely keep these in my boat and bring a lot on my next trip to the bend!.

IšverstiShow in original languageI have several colors of these Strike King worms. Sweet Tater Pie is absolutely my favorite. These honestly catch fish when others will not. They are very durable. I fish them on a Neko Rig and can catch several fish with one worm.

I normally don’t review products, since I use such a variety and don’t believe many have a significant advantaged over others, but this worm is exceptional. I’ve caught bass on this t-rigged, weightless, on a shakeyhead, and new favorite: on a chatterbait.

It absolutely gets crushed on the back of a chatterbait, shakeyhead works great too dragging/flicking it across the bottom. Always have a pack of these lying around when trying new places with bluegill forage or whenever I’m throwing a chatterbait.

Great durability and scent. Green pumpkin peal and sungill are the colors for me.

I love this lure and cannot say enough good things about it. Got it first in a mystery tackle, and have bought many a packs sense. My first back out of mystery tackle I caught over 25 fish off of. Super durable plastic that can be rigged and re used multiple ways ( until the “tickle tail” gets chewed by a gil, loses too much action when the tail gets bit) Can be used very similar to a Fluke and same style of slow fall.

I am not sure what took me so long to use this bait, I have had it for months. I recently tried the black and blue on the Strike King Moon Talker spinnerbait as a trailer. I worked great. I caught a 3 lber and a 2.

5 pounder back to back. The action was perfect for the spinner. This morning I fished the green pumpkin/pearl yoto worm weightless, and caught 5 bass in about 10 minutes on the same bait. I had caught only 2 fish in the previous 1.

5 hours using other baits. I am on board with it now.

I put Blue Craw on a Carolina rig with the “head” leading. I mention this because, according to every picture I see, I seem to be rigging it backwards. Regardless, it always gets attention from bass.

I saw in the comments below that someone wanted 10,000 Fish to change the chemical composition because he mix it with other soft plastics and it seemed to “melt”. This hasn’t happened to me but you should consider this.

However, I hope that they don’t change the formula because I honestly think that part of what makes it so attractive to fish is when the light blue underbelly hits the water it just gives this perfect blue fleshy color that looks so lifelike.

I even caught a Rainbow with it once in the fall.

A must have if you fish smallmouth or Clearwater/ finicky largemouth! This is by far the most durable soft plastic I’ve ever used and just gets bit! I also love to use this bait for bed fishing. It works very well on fish that aren’t necessarily locked and super aggressive in defending their beds.

Throw the bug paired with a jig head onto the bead and watch the cle end float straight up presenting the bait in a defensive craw posture and perfectly presenting your hooks! This bait gets bit!.

The BEST ned rig plastic out there. I’m a big fan of these and the Yoto Worms. The action is second to none. They are very light and have extreme amounts of stretch to it. That’s why it’s so great on a ned rig.

They will always stand up and even the slowest retrieves don’t stop this thing from moving. It continues to shimmy and shake even while dead sticking. My absolute GO-TO presentation when the bite is very slow.

This bait runs true right out of the box and has a fish attracting wobble during the retrieve.

This is a handy crank bait to use when the bass are near the surface or in the shallows. Primarily used on cloudy or mildly overcast days. I would recommend the B to anyone fishing for bass.

I’m a finesse technique fisherman. I started using TRD baits about 3 tears ago and haven’t regretted it at all. I saw that Z-man finally came out with a drop shot specific worm, the Longshotz. What a bait! These STAY ON THE HOOK! The other brand worms were shot after several hook ups.

No so with the Longshotz. Sure they work well to catch SM, but just imagine being able to use them over and over, and over again. Fantastic product! Other brands are like running the hook through a cake doughnut, they just crumble.

I have a couple of trays of non Z-Man products that will be thrown away in a couple of weeks as the season ends. What’s the point of taking up precious space with obsolete baits when I won’t touch them anymore?.

Don’t tell anybody, but crappie INHALE this bait. Was fishing with a buddy who is a diehard bobber & minnow guy. Don’t get me wrong, many a crappie have been caught with this combo. I tied a ticklerz on.

Within 20 minutes my friend put his bobber rod down and asked me if i had an extra one he could use. Two weeks later we went out again and he didn’t bring his minnow bucket along. He did however have 3 different colors of ticklerz in his fishing bag!.

If you have not tried this system, in the various colors, please purchase some and try them out in the shallow salt water flats (water depths of 2-4 feet). It is a “sight bait” tactic in that you can definitely see the fish attack the baits in clear water.

Every chance I get, I throw this craw. It’s got great action, the colors are great (I use green pumpkin and watermelon red flake) and they are absolutely amazing. They are a good balance of durability and action.

The claws flap with very little movement. And they just plain catch fish.

Here’s the story in a nutshell: I live on a shallow weedy lake that has some very large bass. I went to Youtube to find out how to get them and came across some tips from a champion bass fisherman named Seth something.

You would think that the more realistic a bait looks the more fish you would catch with it right? Well this is not the only realistic craw bait I’ve ever used and I had the same so so results with it.

Especially compared to much less realistic offerings like the Strike King rage craw and Berkley pit boss which I’ve caught a ton more fish on than the super natural looking craws. I don’t know if it’s the water displacement and extra vibration you get in the rage craw and pit boss or if the bass think those are a gill or some other prey fish instead of a craw but I can definitely say I catch more fish on the flashier, less realistic versions.

Bass all over eat CRAWS, they eat these as well. These make a good stand alone bait, or a nice jig trailer. I cut all the pinchers and tentacles off of them as well and catch even more bass, Berkley fishing did a study and found bass hit the craw lure over 60% more without the pinchers on the bait itself, buy a few packs and give it a try.

I found these by accident, and on sale, so why not try them? Glad I did. Along with a few other brands of craws, I like using these. Since these have a hollow body, you can rig them differently than a solid plastic craw if you’d like.

I’ve had days where one brand’s style of craw wasn’t working (same colors), so I switched up to another style of craw and caught fish. It’s nice to have a few go to craw plastics in case the fish are picky that day.

Sometimes they want this one, sometimes not. I always have these in my bag.

As a custom jig builder, I push the boundaries on every jig I create. I recently created a color scheme that was hands down the best I have ever made or used for that matter. Without a trailer, this color combination was producing double the fish of the most popular colors.

PROBLEM, couldn’t find a trailer that matched. Just happened to swing by my local Dicks, and while browsing, I found my “miracle color” in a Reaction Inovations bait. YEESSSSS!!!!!!This bait is soft, yet extremely durable.

The scent is noticeable and seems to be incorporated into the plastic instead of dumped into the bag. The action on this particular bait is fantastic and letting it sit, still produces strikes. Did I mention they were extremely durable.

I have used these with a jig and without, and have yet to be disappointed. I have used several other products by this manufacturer and have been pleased with them all. It’s time to think outside of the corporate “hype-box” mentality when it comes to lure/plastic selection and use what works, not what marketing and “wow this brand makes every color under the sun” displays.

I will gladly put Reaction Inovations plastics up against any other brand out there and know othet what I’m using will produce. Sorry but I’m not going to say the color, just that it’s good.

No bluegill can resist the “beaver”. I soak them in my own homemade flavoring overnight and toss them into the heavy weeds with a 2-1/2 ounce bullet weight. The gills can’t resist them.
