A face primer is a product that you apply to your face before your foundation. It helps to create a smooth canvas for your foundation and also helps to keep your foundation in place throughout the day.
Face primers are especially beneficial for those with dry skin, as they help to hydrate the skin and create a barrier between the skin and the foundation. This can help to prevent the foundation from clinging to dry patches and can also help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
There are a variety of face primers on the market, so it is important to choose one that is specifically designed for dry skin.

I don’t know what this is meant to be, but its one of those products that seem to have no real ‘Benifet’. I’ve used the original Porefessional for years and its the holy grail of my makeup drawer, next to my YSL eye concealer.
The original Porefessionsl is one if those products that you cannot live without, its honestly amazing and does what it says. I had a travel size tube of the hydrating Porefessional, included in a limited edition tin of products.
I tried it and instantly didn’t like it. Yes its smooth and hydrating feeling but it has absolutely zero coverage. I’ll just be using this as a primer underneath the original- as an extra hydrating measure.
I can’t see why anyone would pay the same price as the original, for this lesser than good product.
Thank you for my influenster for my free benefit the pore fessional lite primer. Normally I try my sample out for three days or more before I will give a review about. I have been using it for a week now and I love it.
To be realistic there isn’t anything that will completely cover all the large pores, but with this primer it worked. My skin isn’t perfect but it blurred the larger ones and covered the smaller ones.
I wasn’t sure that it would work with my foundation because it’s a different brand and full coverage. It blended well and it did give my skin a glowing effect which I was in love with. I didn’t have to use such setting powder or spray with it.
This will be my primer of choice from now on. Thank you influenster. #POREfessional for changing my mind and investing in me.
I must say I do not understand the reviews that are hating on this product. I have fell in Looooove with this primer. 1st and foremost it smells A-mazing and makes my skin sooo soft and smooth. I apply it right before I put on my foundation.
I use the Bareminerals liquid foundation and blend it with a brush. My skin absorbs it so quickly it’s like the cookie monster eating cookies. I would give this product 5 stars, however, I feel like Benefit is ripping ppl off with the amount they say they put in the tube.
How can a mini last longer then the next size up? I feel they don’t completely give you the amount they say they do.

This is a good primer, the consistency is smooth and goes on like butter! It also sits really nicely under makeup or even just a powder foundation and provides a good base. It does it’s job. I also have acne prone skin and this doesn’t irritate my skin or cause any breakouts, I’ve been using it for about a month.
I went with this one because my skin has some redness that needs to be toned down. The only cons are that for some reason, it comes out a little thin/watery from the pump, but the cap screws off and you can get the product that way too.
That may change as I continue to use it (I wear makeup about 3 days a week). I also can’t really tell if it helps with the redness too much. That could be because I need something with a little more coverage and this is also my first green primer that I’ve used.
Overall it’s a GREAT primer, I would recommend it to anyone!.

Good Hydrations is an answer to my prayers! After running out of the Prime Time primer, I went to the BE store and asked about a primer for dry skin. The rep gave me a sample of Good Hydrations and my life changed forever! I’ve suffered from acne and dry skin for (too many) years.
Dermatologists would give me acne medicines that would dry out my skin and make my acne worse. It was so bad that when I DIDN’T wash my face, I had less acne! Finally, I’ve found what my skin has longed for.
With GH, my acne stopped. Even on days I don’t wear makeup, I use GH (after my moisturizer) to keep my face moisturized and clear. Thank you BE for saving my skin!.
I liked this primer, though I only wear them for times when I will be out all day. I don’t like to cake heave stuff all over my face usually. This was different though. It was definitely light like a moisturizer and my skin didn’t feel bogged down even though the weather really was humid.
I do think I might buy it again actually because it did a good job not just moisturizing my face, but helping to even out the skin tone also.
Went on smoothly and didnt feel heavy on my face. Had a slight oily feel but hid my pores like they never existed on my face. There really isn’t nothing bad to say about this product. My face still felt hydrated after taking off my makeup and that’s one of my biggest pros for this product.
It was easy to blend my foundation over and everything went on pretty smoothly. All in all, would recommend.
A lightweight, hydrating makeup primer for normal to dry skin that nurtures, keeps skin comfortable all day, and extends foundation wear. This lightweight yet moisture rich face primer instantly hydrates skin, and keeps it hydrated all day and extends makeup wear.
Formulated with grape seed oil and sodium hyaluronate, this fast-absorbing formula melts into skin, for a silky-smooth finish that normal to dry skin types will love. Age Group: adult.
I have tried primers many times over the years and they failed to impress or prove their worth. This Fenty Pro Filt’r Hydrating Primer however is the real deal. My skin changed over the past few years where I experienced dry areas for the first time – I’ve struggled to find the right skincare / makeup combination.
Read the reviews about this primer, took the plunge and will never look back. All day hydration, and makeup lasts all day without touch up. Highly recommend this product.
I wish I would have bought the mattifying version of this instead. My skin is on the extreme side of “combination”…when it’s dry, it can be like super flakey dry. But even then, by the end of the day I will still usually still end up oily on top of the dry, flakey spots.
When I am consistent with my skincare and using an appropriate level of moisturizer for whatever hormonal phase my skin is in-things that are more heavily moisturizing leave me with greasy feeling skin.
I also use the pro filter finishing powder with no issues, so I think the mattifying version of this would be a much better choice for me – as long as my skin isn’t being crazy as it sometimes does lol.
If you have normal or dry skin, I think you’ll love this primer. Especially with the pro filter finishing powder-if you haven’t tried it you should:).
I received the full size of this Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’R Hydrating Primer in my Boxycharm box and I have to say that I am a Primer junkie. I never knew I needed a Foundation Primer until they came out and now my makeup doesn’t go on without one.
I have a RIDICULOUS amount of high end primers and out of all of the expensive brands I have, this one of my favorite. It goes on so smoothly and feels slaying as it sinks into my skin. My foundation stays on longer and absolutely hydrates my skin, as I have combination skin for the most part, except in the winter.
Hydrates the skin and preps it for makeup, giving skin a luminous glow. Lightweight formula feels weightless on the skin and keeps skin nourished and moisturized with Hyaluronic Acid. Drop 3-5 drops onto the face, and massage all over clean skin.
This is the second bottle I’ve used. It comes in a great glass bottle with a dropper making it feel pricier than it really is. As a serum it is fabulous. Leaves my skin looking plump and fresh, it doesn’t make me extra oily on my t-zone, I can even use it on its own.
As a makeup primer I found it to work really well. As of late I’ve been putting on my sunscreen (supergoop) and when it’s set I put on the primer serum on top and it causes no problems. After that I put on the elf satin finish foundation and my skin look and feels great.
I hate the feeling of spf, primer, foundation and all of those steps on my skin, it can feel heavy but with this combination I’ve been doing my skin feels great and light. Oh the key to the primer working on top of the spf is to pat it on, do not rub it in because you want to avoid disturbing the spf underneath.
This is by far, the best hydrating primer I’ve tried. Feels so good and refreshing on the skin, even without using a lot of it. Only 1-2 drops is enough for my skin. My face feels hydrated and good all day.
It’s like my skin took a big drink of water with how hydrating it is. It won’t blur pores, but it smooths out my skin and adds tons of hydration. Helps my makeup look and sit better on my naturally dry skin.
Definitely recommend this if you want a primer that will make your skin feel quenched.
Light feel upon application, moderately tacky after dry down, and slightly illuminating. Gave me lots of teeny red bumps on my chin, nose, and forehead within 24 hours, and I’m 43 and very rarely get blemishes anymore; I’m thinking this was a mild reaction and not actual pimples.
Has fragrance. I prefer the pink serum primer from Wet n Wild much more, which costs less, is fine for sensitive skin, and isn’t tacky at all. If I want tacky, I’ll use elf’s Power Grip.
Created to achieve flawless makeup coverage, The Ordinary High Spreadability Fluid Primer is a priming base that glides perfectly onto the skin. The primer works by smoothing the skin with its serum-like texture to attain an even base before makeup application.
It specifically prepares and refines the skin by minimizing imperfections, shine, and pores, leaving you with a subtle look. The priming base is developed with top flexibility silicones that are responsible for combating unpleasant factors.
In particular, this includes the build-up of pigments around the eyes and the accumulation of dry skin patches to give a more natural finish. With its formulation aimed at oily skin types, the primer creates a seamless and clear complexion due to its hydrating and non-oily properties.
Because it is lightweight, the primer prevents makeup from becoming cakey or patchy, while its high spreadability ensures a silky and even finish. It also helps the makeup to stay in place longer without having to retouch, as it does not dry out the skin and is comfortable to wear.
The product is vegan and cruelty-free. It is also free from alcohol, nuts, and oil.
I am absolutely blown away by this product! Ever since using the YSL éclat blur primer, I have never found another primer that I like. Whatever formula or claims, my makeup always looks cakey. Therefore I do not use a primer, unless I am going out and want my look to stay put.
I literally bought this on a whim. I did no research and didn’t even look at any reviews. very unlike me but because it was such a cheap price I thought I’d give it a go. Well I am speechless. it is so so soft, a beautiful texture easy to glide on.
Very little product is needed. This feels to me exactly the same as the YSL blur primer which is around £30. I haven’t yet been able to test the true durability and doubt I will any time soon due to lockdown restrictions.
However, everything about this product feels amazing and from testing it out (albeit not for a full day) it paired really well with my dermablend 3d foundation, it slid on really well without creating a mask effect.
Surprisingly the primer didn’t disrupt the foundation which I often find, causing the cakey flakey look, even on thoroughly moisturised skin. I expect this 30ml to last a long while as it seems that a little goes a long way.
The dropper is good however to be effective needs to sit for a while to ensure the product isn’t right at the top of the dropper as it easily can get everywhere. this probably happened as I was eager to get into my package! So pleased with each and every product I’ve ever purchased from the ordinary and the deciem always provide such lovely and effective packaging and deliver well before expected.
I am shocked that I continue to find new products that are all so effective. The ordinary is such a well priced brand which gives opportunity to try multiple products unlike more luxury products that often don’t live up to their claims whilst being far too high in price.
I would often feel disheartened after trying a new ‘luxury’ brand which was costly and was ineffective. I find the guidance throughout the site really helpful in allowing me to access what will work best for me.
I am a bit disappointed by the product as I am a big fan of all The Ordinary products. The primer smells like petrol to start with. I might have gotten a bottle from a bad batch and it is not supposed to smell like it.
You tell me 🙂 The soft feel of the primer is super nice, but it is hard to get the right amount out of the bottle. I’ve spilled so much because the product is not inside the pipette but outside so it spills everywhere.
The foundation (also The Ordinary) is not really settled, it feels like it is literally laying on my face. Very caky, it leaves scratches when you accidentally touch your face. Settling powder also doesn’t help unfortunately.
I had high hopes about it. I tried it one time, and there was something about it that didn’t have me go back to it again. I do have sensitive skin and after using it I saw some sorta light break out here and there which I never get since I avoid anything I think I would be sensitive to.
Could have been something else, but was thinking it was this. I then got a bug to do a DIY for face primer. A concoction of a little bit of aloe gel, then shea butter and glycerin which the latter is a superstar for being a humectant.
Gives glow to my skin. Non-irritating. So for now. the bottle from Ordinary is staying unused. Btw: I am prone to dermatitis if not careful.
This clear Laura Geller Spackle Skin Perfecting Primer Original creates the perfect base for a long-lasting makeup look. The lightweight, non-greasy formula minimizes the look of pores and fills in fine lines for a smooth complexion.
Hyaluronic Acid and Squalane plump and hydrate, while White Tea and Centella Asiatica brighten your skin. Wear it with or without makeup, and become a natural beauty! Free of synthetic fragrance, parabens, phthalates.
As a long time loyal Laura Geller customer, I looked forward enthusiastially to the relaunch of Laura’s breakthrough, pioneering new Spackle. After all, Laura is the person who INVENTED spackle. Finally, the introductory “new” product arrived–in only ONE color Champagne Glow–the first disappointment.
I always loved the Original, and then had converted to EVEN TONE. But Champagne Glow? Why is this the only choice? Determined to go with the flow, I ordered the Champagne Glow–in the ONLY size available a “bargain large size.
” (Normally her spackles last so long that I prefer to buy in a smaller size, to prevent long term spoilage, but okay. I was going with the flow. ) And then came the MAJOR disappointment: the scent!! I cannot tell if I got an “old” sample or if it spoiled during transit in the heat of the desert (I live in Arizona), but the product smells “wrong” to me.
I don’t think this is a situation where I happen to be too particular about scents. There is something not right about the bottle I received. Or maybe the scent designer made a bad choice? But I carried on, and tried the Champagne Glow for three days.
Every time, it smelled wrong, but the scent disappeared in time. Alas, the product felt “sticky” going on, but did dry down in about two or three minutes. And even after my three day trial, I was not happy with the performance of the product.
It did not feel “invisible and smooth” as it used to after a day’s wear. All in all, I continued trying to make excuses for Laura and her new product, but in the end, I gave up and I am returning the product.
This is the VERY first time I have ever returned a Laura Geller product. For years I have been a loyal customer, starting way back when in her little store on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. It was a pleasure to follow her to QVC.
But now, with Champagne Glow, I am returning Laura’s pioneering product, with great disappointment. Hope springs eternal though, and I will hope that Laura and her team can produce a truly new and improved spackle some time soon.
I’m a strong believer in utilizing a brand’s primer with their foundation, especially when they are formulated to work together. If you try a new foundation and your results are completely different from most users, check the primer.
There are many different primers that all target different areas. If your foundation is super matte, adding an equally mattifying primer of a different brand could negatively affect the texture and overall formula of the foundation.
I’m not saying you should never mix and match, it just requires some trial and error. The Soft Matte Pro Filt’R Primer however, takes the guess work out of my Fenty 400 foundation application. I instantly notice a difference in the finish if I don’t use the primer.
The primer has a soft light scent, is super moisturizing and allows the foundation to effortlessly glide over my pores. The primer and foundation are such an amazing duo.
Loving this primer. The runny. Insistence was questionable at first but man does it make a diffrence in the application. I read other reviews and I was questioning whether or not to buy. Since this is a runny consistency it is best to put it on with your hands just as you would your moisturizer.
I personally don’t use a brush or sponge for primers anyways, but with the hands it blends beautifully. If you don’t want to apply it with your hands, I don’t think this primer is for you. I would repurchase for sure.
Lancôme’s Prep & Hydrate Illuminating Make-up Primer is the perfect primer for radiant make-up. Its innovative formula nourishes the skin so that it is silky soft and intensively infuses it with moisture that lasts for 24 hours.

Light primer for a radiant complexion and perfect make-upLancôme’s Prep & Hydrate Illuminating Make-up Primer infuses skin with soothing moisture and adds a beautiful shimmer. It pampers the skin with nourishing ingredients and is suitable for all skin types.
Apply the product carefully to the entire face before starting your make-up. Enjoy velvety soft skin and a flawless complexion with Lancôme’s Prep & Hydrate Illuminating Make-up Primer!.
I am starting to see way too many wrinkles, so thought I’d try this hydrating primer. Compared to the La Base Pro primer, this one does not do the same job. My face is definitely not as smooth–almost a stickiness, in fact–so my foundation doesn’t look as good as it should.
It also does not provide the all-day staying power for me that the La Base Pro does. It was pretty humid out the first couple of times I used the Prep & Hydrate, so I thought maybe that was affecting the performance.
However, it has since become cold and dry in our area, and it still just doesn’t work well for me. I’m 53, and have formally oily skin which is now relatively dry. If your skin is really, really dry, this might work for you.
I am in my 50’s, have sensitive skin, and use a retinoid for adult acne. It works great but is very drying for my skin. A couple of years ago, I bought the Teint Idole foundation after trying it in store.
It looked beautiful in store, but turned out to be too drying on my skin. My usual foundation (different brand) has been discontinued, so I looked to Lancome for a replacement. It was suggested to me that I use this primer underneath.
It feels great going on, absorbs pretty quickly, and gives a beautiful finish, as well as providing the perfect canvas for foundation. Not only that, but it really does feels like it keeps on moisturizing.
I can even wear the Teint Idole with this! Sold! I will never stop using this.
When I purchased product I knew I would love it because I love Lancome. I can’t afford to purchase as much as I would like. It seemed that I ran out of this Primer. BUT not after another 2 weeks of use.
Why? I could use my scissors and cut open the packaging giving me many more uses by reaching in with my fingers. When products are in the bottles (and some are) we can’t get every last bit. I would request that all products are packaged in a manner that customers could get every last bit.
Lancome is expensive and to be able to use all of it, not leaving any in a bottle would be awesome. I always look forward to the times I have enough money to purchase more. The free samples are wonderful as well as the rewards program.
Not to prime is a crime Whether skin irregularities, enlarged pores or redness – the Facestudio Prime has the ideal solution for every skin type. It prepares your skin optimally for make-up or powder and ensures that your look is still perfect in the evening.
The water-based formula moisturises your skin while preventing sweat and sebum. The powder and make-up formula helps keep your skin looking its best in the evening. The creamy texture spreads super evenly without crumbling or smudging.
Found Maybelline Master Primer fantastic as it did not dry out my skin. I have tried many many different primers only to be disappointed as they dry out the skin making my foundation flakey. Excellent product.
I have sensitive skin and to start off I NEVER got a reaction when using this, It blur out to give your a photo finish look but it won’t had acne like big bumps. Or fix your uneven skin. But it will make your pore look smaller and make your skin look cool and fresh without the feeling like it clogging your pores.
and that is soooo rare to find. It feels more watery then creamy and blends in quite nicely and i really like that.
Transform your face into a flawless and smooth canvas with the mineral infused face primer. Developed to combat excess oil, flaky dryness, enlarged pores and fine lines to result in a natural and youthful looking radiance.
This clear multipurpose skin primer will prepare your skin so makeup goes on evenly for a lasting satin finish. Made in China.
Use Face Primer before foundation for a flawless application. Face Primer creates an even, ideal canvas for foundation by blurring fine lines and visible pores so that foundation goes on looking porcelain smooth.
this is probably my all time favorite primer, which is CRAZY coming from me. I’m that makeup addict that is always hunting for holy grail products and the first time I tried this primer I fell deep in love.
I would say that this is definitely not for someone with dry skin. I am super oily in my t-zone so I only apply the mattifying in that area, and a different glo primer for the rest of my face. this whole line is full of holy grails👀.
This stuff is amazing. It’s super lightweight and silky in texture, and once it goes on, skin almost looks airbrushed (I have generally clear skin so most days I apply this I don’t need anything else underneath).
I love that it has SPF built into the formula. I have gotten so many compliments on the radiance of my skin while wearing this – I highly recommend it!.
Under(cover) from Marc Jacobs Beauty is a primer that prepares the skin to receive makeup by creating a smooth surface and prolonging the duration. Its coconut-based formula creates a natural, vitamin-rich barrier between skin and make-up.
The ingredients contained in the formula allow the skin to breathe while being smoothed. Smoothes the skin; Prolongs the make-up time. Apply on face before applying foundation.
This is my favorite primer so far. It’s lightweight, hygienic (I love products with a pump), and easy to apply. It leaves a nice slightly sticky finish, enough to make your foundation stay in place while not clogging the pores at the same time.
I think it adds a little extra glow to the foundation, but not too much. Of all the primers I have, I use this one the most. Would recommend, and I hope Marc Jacobs Beauty have a version of this after the reformulation.
My favorite face primers are either the urban decay all nighter or the Smashbox original primer. However, whenever I use my [brand:marc-jacobs] Unre(marc)able foundation, I would only use this coconut primer.
I already have dry skin and that matte foundation is VERY drying and can look terrible without properly prepping and withoutbusinf this super hydrating primer! Not only does it keep my skin hydrated (thanks to the concentrated coconut extract in it), it also smooths out my skin texture, blurs my pores and makes my skin ready for me to apply my foundation.
I’ve only paid attention the last time I used this primer, but it also seems to my make up look better/more fresh for a longer time [brand:marc-jacobs] as well. [brand:marc-jacobs] Beauty Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer – 30 Invisible – 30 ml 1.
This is my GO TO! This was the first high end primer I ever purchased and immediately fell in love with it. I have dry skin with a combo t-zone. After discovering and trying other brands I always went back to this primer.
I love the dewy finish I get after it sets in my skin. It makes it easy to apply my foundation; I definitely recommend this primer if you’re using a stick foundation on the dryer side, it will help blend the foundation very nicely! I love the touch of coconut scent—-if you don’t like it, I don’t think this will suit you.
Otherwise, please try it before they sell out! I heard they’re discontinuing Marc jacobs cosmetics so hurry and snag One!.
Your skin deserves a drink! This hydrating and pore-minimizing primer is a moisturizing multi-tasker. Milani Prime Perfection primer eliminates the appearance of fine lines, large pores and flaws while also maintaining your skin’s natural moisture balance.
You’ll feel soft and well-hydrated, while your look will be fearlessly flawless. Let your skin steal the scene, while this invisible primer is nowhere to be seen. It can be worn alone for a dewy, healthy looking finish or under foundation to give your skin a lit from within glow and the ultimate smooth, moisturized base for perfect makeup application.
The Present – The Present Clear Makeup allows you to play beautifully during the day as a colorless skin perfector that camouflages fine lines, wrinkles and pores, and gives the skin a flawless, airbrushed appearance.
The Present also allows you to sleep beautifully in the evening, as its unique formula helps seal in your treatment products and moisturizers, and provides natural antibacterial benefits, all while providing a beautiful, natural airbrushed finish.
The present clear makeup is a must-have item in the philosophy lineup.
Really loving this primer I love philosophy products they are so nice and gentle on your skin and this primer doesn’t disappoint either and it’s not really scented maybe a hint of the purity smell but that’s all it’s not sticky and goes on so nicely and leaves your skin super soft before even putting makeup on.
It’s a great primer doesn’t pill up and my makeup lasts all day at work and all the way until I take my makeup off at night. It looks like a moisturizer in a way because it comes out like a white color but goes on clear.
Definitely recommend this primer especially for sensitive skin it didn’t cause any break outs either.
I’m a former huge philosophy skin care fan. Their cleansers helped me so very much. I tried the present hoping for the same results. I found it went on thin and didn’t seem to make much of a difference.
I did use the whole tube but after the first tube, I didn’t make a second purchase of the present. I would not recommend this product for primer fans.
This is hands down the best primer I have ever used. The only reason I use different primers is I have very dry skin. I use extreme care when I prep my skin because if though leave this bulletproof primer on for to long my skin will start to feel dry.
My best friend has oily skin and she says she never has to touch up even in really sunny and hot days. This is a totally underrated primer. Oh Wayne Goss loves this.
When it comes to face primer for dry skin, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. First, you want to choose a primer that is specifically designed for dry skin. This will ensure that your primer doesn’t end up making your skin more dry.
Second, you want to make sure that you apply your primer to clean, dry skin. This will help the primer to adhere to your skin better and prevent it from drying out your skin. Finally, you want to be sure to moisturize your skin after you apply your primer.
This will help to lock in the moisture and keep your skin from drying out.
