Best F Scott Fitzgerald Books (2023 Updated)

In terms of the actual condition of the book – 10/10 – I loved the cover, shipping was so fast and it was packaged perfectly! However, the story itself might be considered intriguing if you enjoy following the lives of a group of shallow individuals who are labelled as exactly what they are supposed to represent.

Don’t get me wrong though – I did enjoy the plot line to an extent and I have to give Fitzgerald props for his writing, especially those last few lines. But I really couldn’t bring myself to care less about the characters beyond the surface, even if I did feel a bit bad about poor Gatsby’s failed love life and even if it is raved about as one of the greatest American novels of our time.

To me, it just looked like a bunch of people with too much money who go around cheating on their partners in their spare time. You can tell me about its values and how important it is in English literature but it’s still giving ‘Keeping up with West Egg’!! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Fitzgerald’s clear yet captivating prose paints a vibrant image of the headonistic youth of 1920’s New York, while also teaching the reader a valuable lesson on wealth and the corruption that it brings.

What I love most about this book is that – at the crux – it is a love story. Gatsby, despite his extravagant lifestyle and suspicious income, should seem alien to the average reader. Yet as the book moves forward he becomes increasingly human and wretched as his one true weakness is revealed – love.

I highly recommend reading this classic short tale. Prepare to be both entertained and surprised at the journey it will take you on.

It’s a classic, and for very good reason. Fitzegarld shows us an 20’s America bestowed with glamour and wealth, and one that is also cursed with destruction and disillusionment. You NEED to read this.

It’s difficult to give any even-handed critique F. Scott Fitzgerald’s standard-setting Jazz Age novel since it was required reading for most of us in high school. However, if you come back to it as a full-fledged adult, you’ll find that the story still resonates but more like a just-polished cameo piece from a forgotten time.

At the core of the book is the elaborate infatuation Jay Gatsby has for Daisy Fay Buchanan, a love story portrayed with both a languid pall and a fatalistic urgency. But the broader context of the setting and the irreconcilable nature of the American dream in the 1920’s is what give the novel its true gravitas.

Much of this is eloquently articulated by Nick Carraway, Gatsby’s modest Long Island neighbor who becomes his most trusted confidante. Nick is responsible for reuniting the lovers who both have come to different points in their lives five years after their aborted romance.

Now a solitary figure in his luxurious mansion, Gatsby is a newly wealthy man who accumulated his fortunes through dubious means. Daisy, on the other hand, has always led a life of privilege and could not let love stand in the way of her comfortable existence.

She married Tom Buchanan for that sole purpose. With Gatsby’s ambition spurred by his love for Daisy, he rekindles his romance with Daisy, as Tom carries on carelessly with an auto mechanic’s grasping wife.

Nick himself gets caught up in the jet set trappings and has a relationship with Jordan Baker, a young golf pro. These characters are inevitably led on a collision course that exposes the hypocrisy of the rich, the falsity of a love undeserving and the transience of individuals on this earth.

The strength of Fitzgerald’s treatment comes from the lyrical prose he provides to illuminate these themes. Not a word is wasted, and the author’s economical handling of such a potentially complex plot is a technique I wish were more frequently replicated today.

Most of all, I simply enjoy the book because it does not portend a greater significance eighty years later. It is a classic tale that provides vibrancy and texture to a bygone era. It is well worth re-reading, especially at such a bargain price.

Based on the image and the title (“The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald (1995, Trade Paperback, Reprint)”), I had expected and wanted a paperback book but it arrived as a hardcover. Other than that, I’m happy with the product, and it barely costed over a dollar so I can’t complain.

Nick Carraway is our main character. He is a young man who graduated from New Haven, went in to the war, came out, and moved from the West to Long Island Sound’s West Egg Village. He now makes a meager income selling Bonds.

His neighbor is the supremely rich Mr. Gatsby, whom nobody seems to know much about, but whom everybody whose anybody has been to his outlandish parties. Just across the bay is the distinguished East Egg, where Nick has a cousin Daisy.

He often visits her and her husband Tom, their small child, and their friend, the golf star, Miss Carraway. Tom also is supremely rich, and it turns out he keeps a mistress. Poor Nick is the unwilling observer to all.

He becomes Gatsby’s friend and finds that Gatsby has been chasing the past for several years. He is in love with Daisy, and in fact dated her 5 years ago. This all sounds a bit too romantic, but I promise you that between the alcohol and party antics, you will be kept interested.

Borne back ceaselessly into the past indeed. At the end, tragically, the mystery of Gatsby is unraveled. A beautifully woven novel.

This is a very good book. F Scott Fitzgerald is an extremely talented writer. I don’t always neccessarily love the stories that he tells, but I love the way in which he writes them. He is descriptive and he is adept at using words which can really help you visualize the scenes he is trying to convey.

When reading his work you can actually find yourself getting lost in the world he is creating. This is my favorite of Fitzgerald’s work and it is a classic which everyone should take the time to read and appreciate.

The Great Gatsby is set in the raising 1920’s. You will be swept away by the detail of the story. It is one I read in high school and have re-read many times since. The movie is okay but the wording in the novel will lead you to imagine a much grander Great Gatsby.

Purchased the book for my son to read for his class. He really enjoyed the book. Turns out the school decided to have the prom to be themed after The Great Gatsby! My son is so excited we had to find him the whole attire to go with the theme!.

I like the fact that there are illustrations in this book. I recommend it.

The author, Dr. Peck, says it like it is. The most helpful idea he presents is that we as adults have to become dedicated to reality. This is not easy. We all have some kind of bias. We all distort reality.

We all are excellent at self deceit, which is why dedication to reality is difficult and most important. Far too many people are closed minded. Dr. Peck says we need to be mapmakers. The terrain of life changes all the time.

Instead of putting Gideon Bibles in motel rooms, they need to put this book.

This book focuses on the loving aspects of life. Scott explains the meaning of a blissful life through the manifestation of love and psychotherapy, that originates from a higher power/God. This is a great book for spiritual people but also anyone that is trying to find true grace in their lives.

It truly is a path less traveled in people’s journey of life and that is what I find so unique about it. I had taken the author’s advise and am seeing a psychotherapist and i have been able to understand underlying issues behind problems and chaoes.

A book I first read 25 years ago and that I am still recommending. This book shows the reader not only the most correct, but the most fulfilling path the reader should take in life. This is my second copy.

Wow is this one of the best books I have ever read. It’s so witty and funny, but also so deep and insightful. Starr is one of my favorite main characters of any book I have ever read and I was absolutely hooked from beginning to end.

But above all, this book is incredibly powerful. It deals with the truths of racism in such a powerful way. This book made me laugh, cry, and everything in between and I can confidently say everyone needs to read this book.

Literature really is one of the most powerful ways we can learn to grow and understand one another better and this book is the perfect example of that. One of my favorites now and forever. It’s simply brilliant.

This book gave me more feelings and thoughts than I actually can describe. It made sad, angry and for at least 90% of the book scared of the world. I can’t wrap my head around the fact that people can be so cruel and why the color of your skin matters so much.

Because after all, it is the color of your skin and nothing else. It doesn’t change the fact that we all are humans and that means that we all should have the same rights. But “The Hate U Give” explains how obvious it actually is that black people don’t have the same rights as white people.

Which is absolutely horrible. Starr was an incredible main character and I loved her from the first chapter. Her family is also so warm and loving, which made it incredibly easy to like them as well.

I found it almost impossible to put down the book and might have read it instead of studying (which I was supposed to do). I bet that you already have figured it out, but I really enjoyed this book and believe that everyone should read it, especially schools.

but to be honest everyone should pick it up. The story itself is heartbreaking and at times even heartwarming as people gather together to stand for what’s right. It’s not very often that books make me very emotional or make me cry but “The Hate U Give” sure did both.

I was given a copy of this title, free, en exchange for my honest opinion. his is another book that talks about a white police officer shooting a black male. But make no mistake, it is also a book that stands out on its own.

You have probably already heard of this book, as it came out and took the world by storm. I am not one that ever feels that a book deserves a bunch of hype, but in this case I can understand it. It is good for so many reasons, but it is not a perfect book.

(I have yet to find one that is. ) Starr is at party in her neighborhood when shots are fired. Her old friend, Khalil is there with her and quickly gets her out and safely away. While heading to her house or her father’s store, they are pulled over by a white officer for a busted headlight.

While Starr is mentally reciting the lessons of how to behave when pulled over by the police, it is apparent that Khalil did not receive those lessons. As the police is making his way to the car, Starr does ask if there is any drugs in the car.

What could have simply been a routine stop quickly escalates into a homicide. This is due to both Khalil’s mouthiness and the officer’s fear/prejudice/choice. **With the rising number of shootings, people -black people in particular- have been having conversations with their kids about what to do when you are pulled over by the police? Is it necessary? If you have taught your kids to be respectful of authority then no it’s not.

Because, regardless of your opinion of the police or your socio-economic circumstance the police are in a position of authority. EVEN IF YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG. I have been pulled over before and was told that I resembled a suspect that the police were looking for.

No I didn’t believe them, but I was still respectful. Sometimes, it’s not about being right, it’s about doing the right thing. ** Starr then struggles with how to reconcile what has happened, with the way the world reacts and how the police handle the situation.

While I intended on reading F. Scott Fitzgeralds novel on love,excess, and obsession in the roaring 20s I instead received a copy of Ben M. Baglios novel titled Sheepdog in the Snow. An epic tale of young Mandy and get friends desire to throw a holiday party for all the pets in the world gets thrown into chaos when Mandy discovers a wounded stray sheepdog.

Overall despite not having the depth of Jay Gatsby or Nick Carraway Mandy is a multilayered and complicated protagonist. Overall 8/10.

The Great Gatsby is one of my favourite classics of all time. The prose is absolutely beautiful and the plot is intriguing. To top it all off, the book is now bound in this gorgeous cover! I highly recommend this edition to those interested in reading this novel.
