20 Best Eyebrow Pencil For Beginners (2023 Updated)

I used to have near-perfect natural eyebrows and never required much as far as eyebrow makeup products. I just used elf’s eyebrow pencil to lightly fill them in here and there. Unfortunately, this year I have been dealing with a super fun skin problem that has also resulted in about 98% of my eyebrows falling out.

So off to Sephora I went and begged a sales associate to teach me how to draw them on in a natural way, with a product that wouldn’t be obvious but wouldn’t come off super easily either. This is the product they recommended (in universal taupe), and LET ME TELL YOU I love this thing!! While nothing will ever look 100% like real, natural hair where there is none, this magical little pencil is versatile enough to where most people don’t even notice unless super close-up.

I am still learning how to do it just right, but this pencil makes it SO much easier. And seriously the “universal” shade truly is just that – universal. The color you get depends on how hard you press down with it.

While it IS a bit pricey for an eyebrow pencil, it lasts a relatively long time (I am still using the “sample” one they give out for free, for about 2 months now) and even regardless of that, I honestly feel like it is well worth it.

(Though luckily I just found a brand new full size one for $6 on Poshmark haha!).

I have been using Brow Power for several years, and have purchased at different retailers including QVC. HUGE issue is that the lead falls out of the pencil very easily! I have lost at least 3 nearly new ‘leads’, one into the toilet while using pencil.

That’s $75! Seems like problem should be an easy fix as this doesn’t happen with other products. Not fair to consumer unless you print a disclaimer on the box or something. IT is a wonderful company – need to fix this.

Product may be waterproof, but it does rub off skin easily.

I have over plucked my eyebrows to the point where there’s areas that hair no longer grows. I have tried so many products on the market to create natural looking brows. This is the best eyebrow product I have ever found.

It’s extremely easy to use, you don’t end up looking like a clown, and it’s very forgiving on sparse eyebrows. I highly recommend this product for anyone of any age. I’m 76 years young and it’s very easy for me to use.

If you’re on the fence give it a try as I believe you will not be disappointed.

As long as you have a spoolie brush or a cotton swab, I think this eyebrow pencil is totally worth it. I have relatively full brows with occasional sparse areas so I use this to fill it in and it works great.

It applies smoothly and blends easily. (but it’s really small).

I bought 2 eyebrow pencils (one in black and one in dark brown) as a back up to my colourpop eyebrow pencils. However colourpop stopped restocking those so I used the sheseido ones. I was pleasantly surprised! It does deposit a lot of color so use a light hand.

But it is super bendable and looks natural! Dark brown runs a little too warm for me but the black pencil is perfect.

I liked this pencil. It turned out to be a little too reddish for my eyebrows (which are a cooler dark brown). But I ended up using it as an eyeliner. I love using it this way; it’s long lasting, doesn’t smudge, and feels like nothing.

I would probably buy the grey one next time for my brows.

I want to start off this review by stating that I am a big fan of Burt’s Bees products and have been for many years. Nothing beats natural makeup and skin care products. That said, I was not at all impressed with this brow pencil.

It has a smooth, creamy texture, but there’s a waxiness to the formula that makes it hard to apply evenly. Forget trying to keep the tip sharp, because it’s very soft and basically melts against your skin.

Not sure if it’s because of the nourishing jojoba oil and shea butter or something else, but it is a bit frustrating when trying to draw a thin, precise line. The 1610 Brunette shade is not for everyone, either.

It’s a medium reddish-brown, which just kinda fades right into my olive skin tone. I would suggest Burt’s Bees create a slightly darker ash brown shade for people like me that have extremely dark brown or black hair.

Once applied, the color rubs off and fades rather easily. I do like the spoolie a lot. The bristles are firm and blend the product very well. I also like the fact that this product is made from responsibly sourced cedar wood and is 99.

9% natural. If you are looking for a soft, easily blendable brow pencil, then this may actually work well for you. If you’d prefer a sharper, more defined brow, then I’d suggest trying something else.

The wood in the pencil is terrible quality, and combined with the very soft “lead”, the pencil is UNUSABLE after sharpening, even with a quality sharpener. The wood becomes uneven and jagged, and the lead breaks.

So you end up sharpening the entire thing and it ends up being useless. These USED TO BE good quality, but suddenly they are terrible.

I love this pencil and will never go back to using ones that need sharpening. The spiral brush works well, and the retractable pencil is so convenient. Because it’s like a soft crayon, I use a gentle touch to apply just enough to achieve the shade and look I want.

That it’s hypoallergenic is a plus, too.

I LOVE THE FORMULA OF THIS PRODUCT! However, the SHADE taupe, is more like DARK brown, I bought this pencil in an order of 4 other different brow pencils by different brands, I got them all in taupe, and this one, was literally dark brown.

Another problem is the SHAPE of the pencil is hard to work with, I really don’t have much eyebrow hair so for me, I have to draw the lines then fill in, and it ended up looked super blocky and not smooth at all.

If you have fuller brows the shape wouldn’t be a problem, it just sucked because the formula is AMAZING. Would love to see this same formula in a different shape pencil(thin micro pencil, even a thicker round pencil) the triangular shape just made it very hard to define the shape I wanted.

Also the shades don’t really match the name, I am willing to try dark blonde, but taupe is suppose to be universal, I use it because I’m blonde, however the taupe in this range, looked black to dark brown on me.

I bought this brow pencil about 6 months ago. I was looking for a great, inexpensive, easy glide on eyebrow pencil. This was IT! I love how it doesn’t pull on my hairs. love the angled tip. and then finally the brush at end.

The only thing. starting a month ago, I ran out of my backup and now none of my local stores carry Almay. Why?? Guess I need to order online because I really value this pencil.

For me this is one of those super rare products you find that are not only perfect for you, they’re so cheap you want to buy several at once. I have super fair skin, extremely sparse strawberry blonde eyebrows (it looks like I shaved the outer halves off), not much experience with brow products, and a penchant for going from Voldemort to frida Kahlo brows with what would seem like a neutral unassuming brow tint.

the other products I keep on me are high-end brands; $20+ each. Those work sometimes, but not all the time. This product is practically foolproof. It makes my brows look fuller while maintaining definition and shape, the blonde color is a true neutral (no red or green tints), the applicator is great, product has never chipped or failed, I haven’t run out of my first stick after 2 months of daily use, the spoolie on the end usually fixes any discrepancies between the brows, it stays on all day.

I can’t think of a bad thing about this product.

I just purchased the eyebrow pencil for the second time, and will continue to do so, despite its hefty price. A couple of years ago I began growing my over-tweezed brows back, and still have a few sparse patches.

I like a natural, no makeup look when I do wear makeup, and was dissatisfied with a lot of the other brow products had tried because they were too obvious and made me look more made up than I prefer.

This pencil is perfect because it blends in perfectly with my natural brows and just fills in the bare places without being obvious. My brows are a medium brown and the pencil in Audrey is a perfect blend for me.

I also repurchase the mascara regularly and will probably never use any other mascara but Thrive. It’s that good. I’ve tried 2 of the eye brighteners so far and really like the consistency and no-crease wear I get with them.

I would recommend trying Thrive to anyone who’s wondering. The products are expensive, but so far, the one I’ve tried are worth the price tag and last awhile.

I have bushy, gray, dark brown with white prominent hairs in my brows. I have used gray eyeshadows, Anastatia products and my own concoctions to no avail leaving my brows looking severe, artificial and not lasting a day.

I viewed the Thrive website and saw that the new brow color of “Dark Gray” had become available. I ordered right away. I am so happy that I did as this product is wonderful. I can use it alone for a soft look for everyday or darken it up a bit with a coat of brow gel for extra hair definition.

It is easy to apply with the coverage being beyond anything I have used in the past. The color for me is great as I am olive complected and even though I am a little darker, the build-up of color blends perfect.

Total convert.

Even those of us who embrace our gray or salt and pepper hair are probably not excited about our graying, thinning eyebrows. It seems that traditional brow pencils are always the wrong color – too blonde or too dark.

The light brown shades don’t show up and the medium to dark browns are too harsh with gray hair. The idea of a gray brow liner seems a bit counterintuitive; do we really want our brows to look gray? But I’m pleasantly surprised by this product; it does what the blonde and brown shades can’t do, specifically, fill in your thinning, graying brows with a shade that enhances your overall look instead of detracting from it.

I was very pluck happy back in the day. Tried so many different kinds of brow pencils, creams, used different spoolies & etc. I found this a few years back watching ManniMUA & figured I might as well try it if a YouTuber recommends it.

I LOVE IT! It goes on like a cream, sooo smooth and very easy to work with! the spoolie smudges it perfectly and you don’t have to color the whole eyebrow & run through pencils like crazy. Due to the creamy, easy to work with texture of the product, it smudges amazingly while still being completely pigmented.

The color options are very true to color as well. Definitely recommend this product! Between the product itself and the price for this amazing product, you can’t go wrong!.

This eyebrow pencil is one of my favorites for a few reasons. First is the formula. I like the formula of this pencil because it has the right amount of creaminess and dryness. I like the thin pencil tip so that I can sculpt my eyebrows just how I like them without using excess product, like u could with a creamier pencil.

And one of my absolute FAVORITE things about this pencil is the color. It’s like Morphe snatched some of my own eyebrow hairs and made the color Java specifically for me. It’s a true brown black and I love it.

If u are considering look no further and purchase this product.

I LOVE THIS. I would usually use ABH’s Brow Pomade, or ELF’s. Sometimes I even use an old H&M eyeshadow palette. But when I’m in a hurry (which is a lot of the time), I would usually go for my NYX Micro Brow/Precision Brow Pencils.

Or even the ELF Brow Pencil. I love the latter, but I find the NYX ones don’t last as long and are prone to smudge if you’re not careful. I went to take a look at the closest Morphe store to me (2+ hours lol), and ended up getting the Brow Pencil in Chocolate Mousse and it is by far the BEST I’ve tried.

The price point is great! It’s fine enough that you can draw brow hairs! The spoolie brush is thin enough! It’s opaque enough, whereas the NYX and ELF ones would have trouble gliding onto my moisturized face.

Even better than the ABH Brow Pencil!!! My bf had bought me two of them and they seem to have a lot of product but I know I’ll be buying and stockpiling some more soon :).

The application went on smoothly and my eyebrows that have sparsed patch both sides and scar on my left brow was covered very evenly so i have to use 2 different color brow pencils and stays on well.

The look comes out very natural just the way i want them to and the colors,I used were soft black and Dark brown let me tell you. The soft was perfect! Its a very natural with slight transparent black.

usually i have trouble finding black eyebrow pencil and all my life. usually that are very harsh looks like crayola color black and make it look fake. The dark brown was perfect as well. it’s in the cool tone side Because the dark browns i usually find and try to use comes out looking too red, too orange brown, or crayola color brown or just too warm that doesn’t match make skin color.

So pleaaasee! Don’t discountinue this brow pencils !! These are the best shades. I ever use!.

I received the Bebe brow pencil in dark brown from my Ipsy subscription & I swear it has changed my life. I never usually go out and buy anything I get from Ipsy, even if I kinda like it, but I purchase this brow pencil frequently because it’s just so great.

Before this discovery, I (shamefully) swore by a particular Revlon brow pencil — for like, ten years. I’ve tried every brow thing on the market but this one is special. It just looks better!! This is the perfect brow pencil for me. I received one in a beauty kit and used it daily. So I decided to look up the website and order more. Unfortunately, I messed up somehow and ordered the wrong shade for me 😞.

Otherwise, the fine pencil tip is great for filling in sparse brows. The product stays on all day and looks fabulous!.

I think my eyebrow pencil is so old that it’s color name is called Taupe. That’s how long I’ve had it. It lasts forever! Of course I don’t sharpen it after every use because if I want a fine line I use a different product.

The thing that I absolutely live about Chanel eyebrow pencils is that they have a light natural blonde shade. I was a natural blonde as a young girl but as I got older my hair got darker but my eyebrows did not.

(Now it’s all turning white. ) I have never found another pencil that was light enough. No other brand really has a true blonde shade. (At least not that I have found yet. ) Every other company has a lighter brown that they call blonde.

When I use other brands I always feel like I look like Joan Crawford and my eyebrows take over my face. My Anastasia brow pen is the only other brow product in blonde that I feel like is a good match for color.

I have been looking for a true eyebrow pencil for awhile now. My previous brand was discontinued. I prefer the control and look of an old fashioned pencil versus the crayon type so many companies sell now.

This is both the perfect color and consistency. The bonus is it comes with its own sharpener and a spoolie on the opposite end. I so recommend this product.

This Chanel eyebrow pencil, costs a couple more dollars compared to the ABH and Benefit brand. My brows definitely look natural without the obvious I filled in brows where it kinda looks like it was tattooed on my face lol….

This product also comes with a sharpener which is a huge plus where not many eyebrow products will provide sharpeners. I have tried the brow pencil from Gucci, where it was okay but not the best where it was too powdery for my taste.

I’m not a makeup guru by any means, but I know the basics and am a product junky. (Well…not so much anymore due to inflation — I can’t afford to try everything anymore, lol) My favorite eyebrow pencil has been discontinued, so I was on the hunt for something new to fry.

To complicate matters, I am a natural redhead with blonde eyebrows. No lie, but my eyebrows and eyelashes are basically invisible without makeup. To me, this product is genius in theory, but not in execution.

The color was not natural on me and no matter how I applied it, the pencil strokes were super obvious. I’ve never had that problem before with any of the other types I’ve tried. (Anastasia, It Cosmetics, Bare Minerals, etc) I ended up returning it after three days of failures.

I’m still giving it three stars because the color would work on someone with actual visible eyebrows and I really like the concept.

is such a great, convenient product! The brow filling pencil side is a nice, not-too creamy dupe for the ABH formula. I love having a spoolie on the other side but with a brow gel built in is amazing! The gel is slightly tinted but it feels like a soap brow type situation (dries to a stays-put kind of stiff feeling but doesn’t look dry or caked on).

The shade natural brown is slightly warm on my skin tone (light-medium with olive undertone, black hair) but it makes my brows look bold and I love it!.

I have tried soooo many gels / glues to set my brows, and most of them have ended up setting with white crusty specks or the gel just doesn’t stick. This stuff is brilliant. Lasts 24hr almost and has really subtle colour too.

Also comes with a thin pencil to fill in sparse areas which is also brilliant texture, shape & colour. So chuffed. Granted it’s quite pricey but it’s so so worth it.

The best and affordable precision eyebrow pencil. It always give a great natural filled in and brushed look. I use it with the clear gel and I get compliments on my brows all the time. I tried many different and more expensive brands.

I can say I am 100% a milani convert for my eyebrow products. It perfect, effortless looking and easy to use to give a beautiful define yet natural looking eyebrow.

It has the pencil on one side and a small spoolie on the other. I have this in shade 140, which has been a perfect match for my medium brown hair and brows.

I have very sparse brows that fall out easily. Usually when I fill them in I will lose a hair or two just from the pencil brushing against them. This rarely happens with this pencil. For being so thin I was also worried about it being brittle and breaking easily, which I have had happen with several other brands but it’s very durable.

The amount of product it delivers is perfect! The color is neither too warm or too ashy and makes my brows look natural. I just need to order these two at a time so I have a back up if one runs out!.

Anyone who has grey/silver hair knows how difficult it can be to find a brow pencil. Not dark brown, not taupe, grey. A color with no brown, red, or gold tones. This pencil is the one you want. It’s pure charcoal grey, and it looks perfect with my cool silver hair.

I especially like how the NICKA K doesn’t smear and lasts all day. I have very few eyebrows so it’s important they look natural. The pencil comes in the color I’ve used for years which was an added bonus.

The little brush on the end is perfect for shaping my eyebrows. I highly recommend this eyebrow pencil.

This eyebrow pencil is one of my favorite eyebrow products,I use it a lot and I have repurchased it several times but unfortunately it’s not perfect so I couldn’t give it 5 stars. I have it in shade 02-light brown which is a medium neutral-cool toned brown and looks very natural on me.

not too grayish or greenish but not orange or red either. actually it’s exactly the same color of it’s packaging. it’s tip is very thin and you can have precision with it. I love that I can easily draw hair strokes with this one to fill in my brows.

it’s also very soft but not waxy and doesn’t cause my eyebrows hair to fall off. My eyebrows used to be tattooed. I have removed the tattoo but a little shadow of it is still there and I need to use concealer to cover it.

eventhough I set the concealer with powder, it affects the longevity of this brow pencil but the same thing happens with almost every brow pencil I have used so far so I can’t call it a Con but have it in mind that it looks and stays much better on bare skin and clean eyebrows.

all in all it’s longevity isn’t great but isn’t terrible either. it’s still better than half of the high end brow pencils I have tried so far. Another Con is that it finishes sooner than you think specially if you have very sparse brows and need it to define and also fill in your whole eyebrow.

it’s affordable price can make up for this Con but it’s still frustrating to see I have gone through the whole pencil in three weeks. it’s great that there’s no need for a sharper but you have to be careful not to break it’s soft tip.

I don’t mind that it doesnt come with a spoolie because I prefer it to stay as affordable as possible and I can always use my own spoolies. all in all I love it and I always have backups of it. but it could be my HG brow pencil if it lasted longer.

BRILLIANT product!!!! I can honestly say that this pencil rivals some of the most expensive pencils on the market. This little gem draws fine , precise strokes that mimics real hair. it is waterproof so stays put without smudging in the heat of summer.

It is suprisingly easy to remove with conventional eye make up remover. Would HIGHLY recommend this product. planning on stock piling a few of these before they sell out. Also the price is an absolute steal.

Tried this product to make my eyebrows look more precise. The tip is very thin! The color pay off with blonde is a yellow/gold color and very light shade. In addition to not being a good color match, the product crumbles so easily.

Any pressure will make the top break. I went through the pencil in < 2 weeks. Would not recommend for a full brow look.

I have very pale, cool-toned skin and incredibly dark, thick, wiry yet sparse, nearly black unmanageable brows. It’s really hard to find a good color match because my hair is so dark, and most brow products usually have too much of a reddish tint.

Most others either don’t have enough grip, too much grip, are too orange-y, always something wrong. I’ve even tried those “universal” varieties and still, never as good as this one. I do not use the tinted gel side but I’m absolutely addicted to the self-sharpening pencil side.

This pencil side is absolutely THE BEST color match and holds in place even when I’m piddling with my brows all day with my fingers (nervous habit. ) Honestly, I’ve never had a brow product this good and I find it takes way longer to try and duplicate the effect when I try using another of my numerous products.

When you realize using other products just doesn’t do right, when the color or tone is always off, then you’re basically willing to go spend the money on whatever makes your routine go faster that you know with absolute confidence that works perfectly, and this is definitely it.

If you’ve always found trouble with your brow products, if nothing ever looks right, give this a try. The tone and shade are both spot on. It does not smudge. It comes off with soap and water. It keeps everything in place.

You look more polished.

I am surprised there aren’t more reviews for this product! I have thinning eyebrows, with one particular bare spot, and I absolutely love this! I think it takes a little learning curve to create a thin line (light touch) and then fill in where it’s needed, but I feel like it is more natural looking (when you buy the right color) than using a powder.

Then comb over with the gel and it keeps the hair where you want it, and in my case to cover that bare spot beautifully. If I want to skip makeup occasionally, I am still wearing this! I would only buy as a gift if I was very confident on what color would work best for that person.

I purchased this item instead of my typical ABH brow pencil or other brand. I regret not spending a few extra dollars to purchase ABH or Urban Decay and getting a more quality product. The Kybrow pencil lasted only a few weeks.

The formula is very soft; instead of having a harder texture that has a little resistance when you put it on, this brow pencil basically just melts down really quickly while you’re using it. It looks okay, it’s not like it looks bad but it just gets used up so quickly.

I would not purchase this again. Spend the extra $5-7 and get something more quality.

So I didn’t have high hopes for this product , thought it was low to another overrated product that had so much hype around it because a Kardashian created it. I’m happy to say I was wrong! For the price it’s a great product , it stays on and doesn’t rub off easy and it’s easy to work with.

The colour selection is also lovely. The only thing I would say is slightly a con is the fact the pencil it self doesn’t last as long as other pencils I’ve used but over all a fabulous product.

Was hoping this brow pencil would produce very thin hairlike lines that resembled actual brow hairs. It does not. The point is too soft and it doesn’t stay sharp. Also I noticed it immediately broke little bits off of the tip and deposited them in my brows.

Its like using a crayon. Very obvious pencil color filling in bare spots. I want a thin pointed tip that produces hairlike lines. This isn’t the one. Also the spoolie end is too short and much too stiff.

The metal part at the tip scratches my brow. I did not care for this pencil.
