20 Best Eye Wash For Dogs (2023 Updated)

My white labradoodle Oscar has always had runny eyes that would harden into an ugly mess and run down his face causing red staining on his hair. Once I started cleaning his eyes every day with this rinse and a non-woven pad he looks like a different dog.

I do use it EVERY day to keep on top of it, but it eliminates virtually all the associated problems with runny eyes. Very gentle on eyes, too. I wet a corner of the pad with the rinse and then carefully apply several drops as directly into his eyes as I can get them, then wipe the excess with the dampened pad.

Oscar doesn’t wince or struggle but those 2nd eyelids are pretty tightly closed when the rinse goes in. I keep several bottles on hand!.

This is a great product for baby kittens to clean their eyes that have infection. It seemed that all of my local stores were out of stock, and I needed this product to clean the kitty’s eyes. I ordered two bottles from Walmart last Thursday, and while tracking my product, it told me my box would arrive Saturday!! In two days!!!! I couldn’t believe it, so I withheld my comments to see when I would receive my package.

Buy Vetericyn Antimicrobial Eyewash instead. My dog had goopy eye discharge likely from allergies, but possibly bacterial too. I used this for a week or two. Maybe it helped a little just as an eye rinse, but it might have caused redness too.

The redness could have been there before the eye drops, but I think this eye wash was causing the redness which is a common side effect of boric acid eye wash. Not 100% sure though. BUT this eyewash was not resolving the problem anyway and obviously my dog can’t tell me if it was irritating his eyes more.

The Vetericyn Antimicrobial Eyewash did resolve the problem with the addition of allergy supplements. The Vetericyn Antimicrobial Eyewash is gentle enough to be used everyday and did not cause redness.

I honestly wish I took a before pic of my poor kitty’s eyes. I wanted to try a rinse and antibiotic ointment prior to taking her to the vet to get a head start on her eyes because they were So red and irritated and runny.

I applied this gel after using a rinse first on her eyes last night, within hours already seeing some of the discomfort and redness going away! We are still going to the vet to get her checked out but this product def is going to be kept on hand! It was a thicker gel so it came out rather quick and a little too much applied per eyes, but didn’t seem to sting at all.

She had her eyes closed for a while after I applied it but after wiping off the excess within 4 hours she is already less squinty, severe redness down to just a barely slight pink, and no discharge! This product is amazing, I am very satisfied and will be buying it again.

She is very happy and rolling around purring whereas before she was very unhappy and her eyes looked so ouchy. Thank you.

Used this in conjunction with the ophthalmic gel to help with our cat’s inflammation when it came on a weekend when the vet was closed. She has allergies and once a few years gets infections and we usually get her antibiotics from the vet.

Her eye was all but shut and swollen. Two days in the swelling was gone. Three days in it has started to noticeably work to open the eye more and each day after, until about a seven days it improved.

We slowly weened her off from three times a day to twice by then and by day ten we were at once daily. After that we just did the wash and it actually seemed to irritate her eye at that point (probably because she no longer needed it?) so we stopped.

Her eye is good as new now and I can definitely say that, for us, this was truly a great alternative to antibiotics as well as an emergency vet visit. I’m not a vet so I can’t say for sure what her ailment was but I can say that this stuff worked.

I have just started using these eye drops on my dogs eyes and they are doing very well. I have noticed less inflammation so I am very happy so far.

Too early to tell if it will work on the cataract but it has helped with the eye discharge. So now I wonder if she has dry eye too. The one thing that bothers me tho is the dropper bottle itself. I’ve been sent a new one- thanks entirely pets- but it acts the same.

runs too quickly- losing too many drops. It’s hard enough to put drops in a dog’s eye. I bought a separate dropper. It helps a bit.

This product was recommended by my vet to improve the vision and arrest the buildup of cloudy corneas in my 14 year old Standard Poodle. And it’s working very well! There is less cloudiness in her eyes, and she can see better.

I’ll be using Ocluvet on my Poodle from now on. The only drawback is it seems to give my dog some irritation at the time of introduction, but that quickly dissipates.

Very soothing for eye irritation. My dog has allergies and his eyes get red and irritated. After using this product a couple of times, my dog quit trying to resist and now he allows me to put it in his eyes with ease because it makes his eyes feel and look so much better.

My puppy has atopic skin allergies and we are treating it with Benadryl and the Benadryl seemed to help I purchased the BB itch spray after seeing reviews on how much it helped others skin integrity and honestly it made it way worse.

After the Benadryl dose he wasn’t itching at all. His fur is red, blotchy and dry and figured with Avocado oil it should hydrate it. Nopppeee he started to itch like crazy and I have like 3 hrs left for his next dose.

If ur thinking this will help moisturize their skin or soften it think again. The only relief mine got was the coldness of the spray… continuing on with my search to help his skin clear up and let him feel some relief… also if ur pup has skin allergies from ragweed, ryegrass or pollen Benadryl works amazing just be careful on the dose and either wash w/a moisturizing shampoo or use wipes all over (in paws too) every time he is exposed to those elements.

Too bad I couldn’t use it’s a 10 on him lol bc when I go blonde it makes my hair feel so soft when it should feel like straw….

We have three shampoos we use for our rescues, two which we purchase from the Vet when needed. Burt’s Bees oatmeal shampoo has been our go to over the counter shampoo for decades now. One of our rescues is like our old Lab was, pollen comes down thick enough to write your name on the car and the dog’s coat dries out.

With the dry coat, shedding is unbelievable, even in a short hair dog. Then the constant scratching begins. With this oatmeal shampoo, it takes care of both issues, scratching stops and the shedding goes back to normal.

It’s definitely a chore reducer! The great thing about receiving the shampoo from Chewy is not only the lower price, but the fact that they taped the top down so no spills in the box!.

I just bought this product to wash my two busy little pups who are constantly up to no good. They get into everything that they shouldn’t, are in the raw funk of the potty training stages in their crates, they love to roll around in dead things, and aren’t living their best life, unless they are covered up to their ears in mud and muck.

This Oatmeal shampoo sounded very gentle, and in my mind I thought that it would be great for their fur and smell like an oatmeal cookie, or like most of Burt’s Bees honey scented products which are all great- except, I was very disappointed.

This shampoo literally smells like nothing, and it doesn’t seem to deep clean their fur- especially if they are fluffy. Also, it doesn’t seem to wash or mask strong puppy odors after my two rebel pups get into funky things.

I was really bummed out, I opted to spend more on a better valued product due to their brand name that’s won me over with their human products, but instead got some that I’ve used this not a few times and will most likely discard.

It’s not at all doing the trick. I think that Burt’s Bees just needs to stay in their own lane, and do what their magical at, by making awesome snd affordable skincare products for humans. Because this shampoo isn’t good quality, and it’s certainly not what I’d call affordable skincare.

We have recently experienced a flea issue due to feral cats in the backyard and one of our dogs has a flea allergy. Everytime he gets bit he gets a reaction causing these little bumps on his body. I’ve been looking for a product that actually works since we’ve tried many that provided little to no relief.

This product works AMAZING! After the first application he finally was able to refrain from scratching and by the morning the size of the bumps had went down. He loves it as well when he sees the bottle he lays on his belly ready to get relief.

My American Pitbull Terrier mix struggles with skin allergies. The addition of Sardine oil to his diet has helped tremendously, as well as a small dose of Apoquel that varies with the seasons. However, there are certain times of year where itchy skin seems unavoidable for him.

I have a hydrocortisone cream, which has helped but isn’t always convenient to apply. This hydrocortisone spray is not only easy to apply, but relieves his discomfort almost instantly! He is not a huge fan of the sound of the spray bottle, but for any areas that are close enough to his ears to startle him, I spray a little of the solution onto a cotton ball or folded up facial tissue and apply it that way.

We got this because my dog is always having itchy ears. He doesn’t seem to have anything in them and they don’t smell like some dog’s ears but he is always shaking his ears and pawing at them. I am not sure how much it is really helping but he does seem to scratch at them less.

We use this after his baths to help absorb any water that might have gotten in them. The nozzle does not do a very good job dispensing. Either a tiny amount or a lot comes out, it is hard to control.

Thankfully we just rubbed in the excess and he seemed to do fine with it. We will continue to use it to see if it helps in the long run.

This product really works!!! My dog woke with flaming red eyes with discharge on a Saturday morning. Knowing I wouldn’t be able to get an appointment for the vet until Monday, I researched all OTC eye meds to hopefully relieve some of the discomfort.

I purchased this product after seeing great reviews. I started with one drop per eye 3x on the first day, then continued twice daily. Wiping his eyes in between with warm, damp cloth to remove discharge.

Each day, I noticed improvement. By the end of day three, his eyes were clear and no need to see the vet.

My dog was beginning to scratch a lot. I bought some MicrocynAH and applied it to the affected area. It worked very well as she had minimal itch. I applied some before her bedtime and she slept almost the whole night without scratching.

Will continue to use as needed. Must say the product is excellent for relieving pet itch.

My cat had a large red sore on his face from scratching. I applied this to the spot everyday for about a week and it cleared it right up. I was amazed with the effectiveness of this product. I use it regularly around his ears to prevent anything new from developing.

My poor senior Maltese has terrible allergies. He face looks like a monkey, with brown/reddish tear stains around the eyes. I have tried several products but cannot get the tear stains to come out. I read the reviews on this product and decided to try it.

So far it seems to be working pretty good. I give his eyes a couple drops of this and he’s not pawing at his face as much nor rubbing his face into the carpet. I also put a little of this product on cotton pads and wipe around his eyes.

Tear stains are still there but not as bad as before.

We use this as an eye wash when cattle start to get watery eyes. We spray it on and it seems to prevent more serious cases of pink eye that require a vet visit. We don’t use it on serious cases though.

I have been using this for years. I believe I started using it for my shih tzu crusty under eye area. Then when the cats get a goopy eye from something, they get it. The humans have used it, too. My guinea pig, Callie, once had a piece of hay stuck in her eye and the eye was clouding over.

I removed the hay and flushed her eye with this and her eye cleared back up. I am not stating that this removes the need for a vet because there could be an infection or corneal scratch, but that it is safe and does not sting.

Should the eye not have improved by the next day I would have taken Callie in.

My Jack Russell has Dry Eye. The ophthalmologist prescribed a compound medicine and lubricant to be used 2x and 3x per day for the rest of the dog’s life. Unfortunately, the cost of the meds, follow-ups, and the intensive schedule (5 drop administrations a day!) just didn’t work for us.

I found this product in hopes of a natural treatment for dry eye along with Cod Liver Oil. DO NOT EXPECT THIS TO CURE DRY EYE. It isn’t fair to ding a product for not doing something it doesn’t claim to do.

But for SUPPORT I find Ark Naturals Eyes So Bright reduces redness and inflammation, removes debris and slimy eye boogers, and helps prevent infections. My only qualm is delivery method. I don’t use the whole cotton ball method.

This smells nice and doesn’t seem to irritate my dog’s eyes. However, I like drops where you just drop the liquid in the eye to flush out whatever is in their eyes. I’ll still use this to wipe the eye boogers but will search for another eye drop to flush things out!.

I have an older girl who in the recent year has been suffering from consistent eye irritation, redness, constant draining, which is uncomfortable for her when I’m trying to clean the gunk off her eyes.

I do not notice a difference in my dog’s eyes after having been using this cleaner for a week along with the wipers and gel. A soft washcloth wet with very warm water help over the eye several times does a far superior job in loosening up the hardened matter so that I can pick it off with my fingers.

These are absolutely essential for cats(and dogs too) that have been diagnosed with autoimmune eye conditions where tear production has been reduced to near nothing if none at all. Sodium hyaluron, or some similar formulation of it, is what’s used in the moisture to in the cosmetic industry to attract moisture to the skin.

This is to compliment Rx Optimmune eye ointment. Together, they work great and I stopped needing to clean crust off my Shih Tzu’s eyes with saline or eye wash. I like the eye dropper bottle better and love that Ocunovis doesn’t expire after 60 days like Optixcare Eye Lube Plus.

However, like Systane Gel Drops, it is only easy to apply for the first half of the bottle. Then the product becomes so difficult to dispense. I would have to squeeze so hard it sometimes comes out the side of the bottle top.

My dog will not sit patiently while I shake this bottle above his face. It made me miss Optixcare so much, I’m going back to it. With a 20 g tube for 60 days, I can waste some drops. I can also use it to clean occasional crust off his eyes or face.

I just rub the excess gel on my dry fingertips. However if Ocunovis ever makes a larger size or tube version. I would definitely try it.

I bought these for my senior rescue whose eyes produce more boogers than tears. His vet recommended eye drops for now and possible medicated ones in the future if these don’t help. Anyway, these seem to help! As others have mentioned, it is a tiny bit harder to get the product out compared to regular eye drops, but that’s because these drops are thicker than “normal” eye drops.

Works great. I have a Tree Walker Coonhound and his eyes can get gross during seasonal changes so this product helps avoid eye infections. Great if your dog has allergies as well.

I feed stray cats. The kitten’s eyes were mattered and closed. I used the eye drops only once because the kitten wouldn’t let me touch him. I had to sneak up on him the first time. This product cleared that baby’s eyes with just one use.
