20 Best Extension Cord For Generator (2023 Updated)

This product worked great for about 6-7 months. Around the 6 month mark I noticed the Tesla charger started cutting to 15mph charge instead of the normal 28 because the cord was overheating the Tesla charging module.

I wasn’t too concerned because I live in Southern California and it gets hot during the day. I started unplugging the Tesla adapter and only charging at night to avoid extra heat. After a few hours the charger would continue to overheat.

At this point I was monitoring the cord every night and morning when I plugged in the cord or unplugged it. Tonight I got an update on my phone from the Tesla app saying that the charging stopped. I went outside to check on the car and the charger and the pictures are what I found.

The plastic/rubber at the male end of the cord completely cracked and was melted to the Tesla 10-50 adapter. It smelled like electrical smoke and I’m lucky I caught it before a fire started or my dog got curious and put his face near it.

THIS CORD IS HALF THE PRICE OF THE OTHER CORDS FOR A REASON. Save your money and don’t risk burning down your house with this knockoff extension cord. It is not designed for 50 amps (the charger was only sucking 30) and it still malfunctioned.

If it was used indoors maybe it would have lasted longer but the bottom line is that I’ve never had any issues with any other cords or outlets when charging my car or anything else for that matter and using this item was extremely dangerous.

I would like a full refund as well as a replacement for the $60 10-50 Tesla adapter that was melted as a result of this cord.

Make sure if you have/need a 30amp to 15amp 110 RV adapter that it fits and reaches the receptacle. The handle on this makes it impossible for some adapters to reach an outlet. Consider purchasing one as recommended by GearIT as “ Often purchased together“.

To be honest, I didn’t even use the handles, I held the cord like I do with all the other handle-less cords I own. The handles didn’t make it any easier to guide, in fact you end up pulling all the weight of the cord with just the handle.

Plenty of other extension cords are just the circular part of the plug for the receptacle which makes any appropriately rated adapter work. This feels proprietary. Imagine finally getting your extension cord in the mail so you can have electricity, air conditioning, and water via the water pump after several weeks… and discovering that you didn’t pay enough attention to your cute little adapter and now it’s past 10 PM and AutoZone is closed.

That’s my bad. Otherwise the connections are very sturdy, as is the cord, and I will admit that the handles on the male and female ends actually enhance the sturdiness at that point of the cord. The bright green is great, I won’t be backing over this with studded tires.

I will update my review when it’s -20° below in Alaska this winter. Also it came two days early.

Had this for about a year to charge my Tesla. It was working well until now where it charges only at 16amp instead of 32amp. Did a test charging my tesla to 240v direct and charges fine at 32amp. Contacted seller for warranty replacement and they want me to pay for shipping to them (which is fair) but also pay the shipping for them to send it back.

How unethical of the seller. To pay for shipping back and forth is not worth the time, money and energy. It’s going to the dumpster. DO NOT BUY!.

This was purchased to connect my generator to my breaker box in the event of a power outage. (generator is hardwired to panel) I have not had to use it and hope I don’t. It is a well made product and the price is a good value.

The company was good to deal with and responded to my needs well.

Product arrived quickly. Quality construction and material. I compared with cheaper products, but we all know that others use cheap materials with poor quality control. Reliance is a trusted company with quality products.

Tested it, during freezing temperatures, running from a Generac GP5500 to my interlocked house panel. Cable locked firmly into both ends (quality construction) and cold weather didn’t make it feel like a stiff steel cable (quality materials).

I trust it during wind and cold weather here in Buffalo to carry that power to the house.

Cord is very good quality. However, compared to other cords I have owned in the past, this cord is very stiff. It does not lay nice. Other codes I have owner the rubber is completely flexible even in low temps.

We had purchased this Cord before the Generator. While it is so long. it is proper for this use however, we do need to protect it along,its entire length. It is not practical to roll out such a long cord and restore it especially in Winter so we must raise it under the lip of our siding & protect its entire length.

My question is how do you protect it at each end from deterioration? Note we had also purchased the 10 Circuit transfer switch at that time.

The product is exactly as described on the website. Great 30 Cord suitable for use on a 4 prong 30 outlet on your generator to connect to a transfer switch on your home or other device. I would definitely recommend this item if you are looking for something similar.

Also the yellow color of the cord is good because it stands out, and is likely to contribute to additional safety. Great flexibility of cord also.

I did not want 50 plus feet either. I believe I’ve found what I needed with this product. One of the features that I find useful and well designed, is the three 20 amp outlets, each with circuit protection breakers.

I bought this cord for new setup electrician did installing the necessary transfer switch and power outlet from our electric box for plug in of our portable generac generator for power outage usages.

I tested the setup with the new cord and everything worked as expected even with the cord being for Predator type generator. I would advise though to check to make sure the cord is compatible for the generator you have as I had the electrician review before I purchased and we then tested the setup with the new cord.

Haven’t used it for long periods of time yet but, for the testing of the generator and turning off the power to my house from the lines everything worked as expected without any issues.

This is a good quality cord and it is priced right. I used it to back-feed power from a generator to my home during a 5-day power outage. While I do not recommend you do what I did without absolute confidence in your electrical circuit knowledge, or under the supervision of a qualified electrician, I spliced a new plug on one end to feed my house through my 240v table saw plug (making sure to turn off the main supply to the house so as not to electrocute any electricians who may be trying to fix the neighborhood power outage issue).

During that process, I was able to see the quality of the copper in the cord and the connection to the plug(s). I highly recommend this particular cable.

I purchased this cord after hurricane Ida. The idea was to eliminate some of the extension cords. I haven’t needed it until last week when the power went out during a popup thunderstorm. Plugged it up and no power.

Quick check and I found that the male end looked as though it was burnt/ tarnished. Long story short, I replaced the male end and it works fine. Word of advice. Always open and check the product before purchasing.

I recently purchased a Coleman generator cord. It is 3 feet in length. It connects directly to any generator with a 220 outlet. This converts the available current of 220 into two 110 outlets. This was very handy just a week after my purchased arrived.

If you work on commercial or industrial construction sites, this cord is for you. This is an extremely heavy duty cord but it is also very flexible (even during our cold New England winters). I would like to point out that the ends are CS connectors.

These connectors themselves are heavy duty twist locks. We use this cord and our spider boxes for temporary power when we are working on various installs. Please note that these CS connectors will not fit your standard residential portable generator.

This is a great Power Cord, with a plug set that is very tight connecting, works great in rough conditions. The outer jacket is tough and oil resistant. Works great as a job site connector between temporary power pole and gen set for.

This temporary cord is very handy to have. It is well made and designed for use. The twist lock plug prevents the cord from coming loose and the cable is very durable, yet remains flexible. This is a great cord for those emergency situations that arise.

I bought this item at the same time as a Generac 7500W generator. It was an excellent purchase. Using this allowed us to make use of the 240V output as well as the standard outlets on the generator. The cord held up well and stayed flexible during 5 days of variable weather.

Just wired it up, very pleased with the documentation. If I had any issues it wasnt with the product. I have 160 amp service and a sub panel flush mounted in a finished wall. It took me a little extra time adding conduit to the sub panel and fishing the conduit until the wall for the switch panel to tie into the main panel.

There was a learning curve since I am not an electrician, and never wired one of these but the YouTube tutorials are excellent. Take your time, document, be patient. Or, hire an electrician,.

My Honeywell 7500W generator runs quieter than most others I’ve heard. The electric start is really convenient. It would have been nice if the starting battery would charge during operation without the need of an external AC plug-in charger.

The Owner’s Manual says the battery comes fully charged. But to be sure, I plugged in the charger for 48 hours before starting the first time. In the event of a long power outage when the generator may need to be restarted a number of times, it’s a good idea to charge the battery with the external charger (plugged into one of the generators outlets) while the generator is running.

And if the battery (or electric starter) fails, there is a manual pull-start. I opted to use SAE 5-30 synthetic motor oil rather than the SAE 30 oil provided with the unit. This grade and type of oil will make the generator ready for use on the coldest Winter nights or the hottest Summer days.

Plus, synthetic oil protects the engine far better than regular oil. The Generac Power Cord is very solidly built. I believe the plugs will survive thousands of plug and unplug cycles. Well worth the money!.

The GP line is the emergency home-use line of Generac. The 5626 (previously known as the 7000E- now discontinued) was made in the USA and has a full pressure oil lubrication system with a spin-on oil filter.

This is an excellent, well built generator. In recent years the competition has become the made in China generators with names such as PowerMate. These generators are inferior, but they are much less expensive.

People often buy an emergency generator strictly on size and price, and as the market is the market, Generac was forced to outsource the manufacture of the GP line to China. Now only their more expensive XG and XP lines are made in the USA.

In my view, they are worth it. If I were to buy another generator I would pay up for one of the Generac models made in the USA such as the XG series. I have seen too many of these Chinese generators fail to start, have something fall off it, burn up, etc.

to risk not having it available when a storm hits. Hurricane Sandy put my Generac GP7000E to use for 9 days, shutting it off only at night and to change the oil and filter each 100 hours. I also have the PowerMate 30 amp convenience cord and a Century Wire & Cable 25 foot extension.

I bought them both on price, not quality and was not disappointed. They are serviceable and good for occasional use. The plastic is stiff, so the cords don’t like to lie out straight. If you want a real cord, buy the Gen-Tran.

The rubber on them is superior as is the quality of the receptacles and even the plug. If you plan to use it outdoors to run a construction project or a lawn party, the safety of the Gen-Tran is the way to go.

I have a nice generator that I bought for last years hurricane here in Florida but didn’t have to use it as the power stayed on. This year after Irma, power went down and I had to crank it up. However I had to run several cords from the generator into my home to run the refrigerator and freezer along with several fans and lights.

Very inconvenient so I paid an electrician to wire my home for generator use. Then all I needed was a power cord from the generator to the outside of the home plug in. When I started looking they were very scarce because of Irma, but EGT bailed me out and now have a nice cord ready for the next storm.

Plain and simple, lost power a few times. Basement flooded bad, (3 inches deep), started researching online. First thing was what to do for back up power. Next was best way to do it. So I needed s system that would supply power for house as well as power for sump pump.

He was very impressed with the ease of putting this system in and adding it to my electrical panel as well. As he said only thing better would be to have a auto switch rather then my manual one. If your not certain on what to do or what you will need, call them they will walk you threw anything and everything, and hey what a concept, you get to talk with a live English speaking person who knows this stuff inside out and backwards.

They mislead you into thinking you have 15 amp Breakers but you really only have 11 amps at the breaker. Which is actually a really big deal considering its function is power.

I can always trust this brand to deliver quality products and this one was a steal! Excellent inverter reel with smooth mechanics. Highly recommend!

I was wanting an extension cord. thought this was one with a reel too!!. but didn’t read the fine print(never do!). it is just an extension for electrical. you still need a cord (or 4) to go to your device(saw, trimmer, blower, etc).

I doesn’t reel too easy as well. no guide to keep in from sliding off reel.
