20 Best Exhaust Hood For Kitchen (2023 Updated)

We like choosing speed/strength of the fan — works great and easy to select the buttons. It’s attractive. Was ok to install Always a bit tricky especially in a log house. so our problem, not the hood’s.

But the light underneath is terrible – like a night light and it shines on the back of the stove, not over the burners where it’s needed!! So we’re trying to figure out another light to put on the wall next to the stove.

Otherwise we have to use a flashlight at times.

The reason I have rated this product 5 stars is that the manufacturer has kept it simple. No fancy electronics like digital touch buttons, digital dimmers, “dirty filter alert”, or complicated vent ducting.

The 3 filters are easy to detach and clean, and the exterior stainless steel finish just needs an occasional wipe to keep it looking new. The push button controls are straightforward and intuitive to operate.

And, of course, the price was very reasonable. My old ducted exhaust hood was 3X more expensive and too complicated with fancy electronics which led to it malfunctioning in the first place.

Took about 30 minutes to install. It has a plug so needed to change that. Didn’t have any installation hardware or screws. It’s a very nice appearnce unit and the 3 speed fan with dual lights is unique in these hoods for under $200 it’s a steal !.

We bought the hood in Sept. 2020 so custom cabinets could be built. Installed in April 2021. Medium and high speed were way too noisy to use unless absolutely necessary. In January 2022, unit stopped working.

Only used it for 8 months, but warranty runs from date of original purchase so we are out of luck. We decided to not even try to fix it as it is so loud. My husband has been installing Broan exhaust fans for years, which is why we went with a Broan hood.

We are very disappointed in Broan after this experience.

Purchased this unit in December. Unit was professionally installed same day of delivery. Unit worked for a day and then to my luck suddenly stopped working. I had to contact Geek Squad and was then asked to contact Samsung to resolve my current issues.

Samsung agreed to replace my unit (took about 3/4 weeks for this approval). I ultimately lost money on this unit as Samsung agreed to pay for my installation (keep in mind I had to pay for Instal TWO times) and then later took that back by saying I was misinformed by the rep; supervisor was supposed to further support and ‘take care’ of me one way or another.

The supervisors way of taking care of me for paying installation 2 times on something that was Samsungs fault was to ignore me and not proceed with her end of the deal. Ultimately, I did get my unit replaced.

The new one is working fine however with the added fees I had to pay out of pocket for instal and Samsungs defective items I could have purchased an item on a different scale. First unit Purchased early december 2020 Replacement purchased 1/29/2021.

This is the worst purchase I ever made in an appliance. Inefficient, leaves the house with steam and smoke, even on Boost. Loud as hell, it’s a nightmare. Our $249 temporary range was more efficient and quieter.

Bought this at Home Depot. Contractor installed it later the 48 hours from the delivery (because they pushed our delivery the contractor had to come back) so we can’t return it and have to contact Samsung.

Did that. Samsung technician came in, verified that the installation was properly made, which it was, and that the motor was working, which it is. Told us it obviously does not meet the CFM expectation but that since nothing is technically wrong with the machine, they can’t really do anything about it.

Overall very pleased with this purchase. If I could give it 4. 5 stars I would. Great price, to start with. The fitment wasn’t perfect. Between the mounting holes, the chimney, and the bumpers on the back I had to get creative a few times to achieve the look I wanted in terms of gaps to wall behind and ceiling above.

The finish and operation aside from the things mentioned is great. It looks fantastic, came well packaged. I read a few comments about the thickness of the metal used- the chimney is relatively thin but the unit itself is quite stout and feels well built.

After getting it dialed in, nobody will be able to tell this is a 2xx range hood as opposed to one that costs twice or thrice as much.

I researched this whole range hood thing extensively as I have a large soffit as part of the ceiling. I simply deleted one part of the chimney and used the upper part as I need minimal clearance but still wanted the vision of the chimney.

It took a little bit of finagling to the get the chimney bottom lip to fit into the hood groove but its quite doable. Overall, the quality of the hood is excellent. On high speed you can hear the fan but it is sure a lot quieter than the ancient model I was replacing.

I wish the lights were a bit brighter but this is an easy fix. When I get around to it, I will replace with higher volts lights. Overall, this is a stunning and beautiful unit. Kind of proud of what we installed and customized.

The plumber who came in same day to do the new sink piping couldn’t believe we did it ourselves. But we re two senior ladies lol. Overall, I found the quality of this hood exceptional. Love the beautiful ss sheen and appreciate the fact that they shrink wrap the entire hood in white plastic which we didn’t remove until everything was installed.

no scratches, and we’re happy campers!! PS: this is not a hard wired unit for those replaying an older range hood like we had to (circa 1989) but wasn’t hard to hook the wires into a new plug that is hidden behind the short chimney.

Have had this installed for a few months. Installation was straightforward and operation is good. It’s a solidly built unit. This unit though is very loud. I thought my previous Sirius unit was loud, but this one puts that to shame.

It sounds like the wind blowing across the frigid Tundra. I did reach out to Z-line for suggestions and they told me to flip the filters around. This made a noticeable difference because the whistling stopped, but overall the noise level didn’t not diminish.

With one or both of the filters removed the unit is silent. It’s definitely the design of the filters. It would be nice if another filter option was available.

This unit really works! My GC husband has installed so many range hoods over the last 30 years, and he was never impressed (even with the extremely expensive models). We recently renovated our own kitchen and opted for this Zline installed over our induction cooktop.

This hood has surpassed our expectations and genuinely surprised my husband by how well it has worked in the first two months of use. We think the fact that it is slightly wider than the area of the cooktop is helpful.

I haven’t even needed to turn it up to its highest level yet.

We could not be happier with our new hood insert. Strong enough to suck the fillings from your teeth, yet quiet enough not to be obtrusive. It’s decorative front is made of “REAL” stainless steel (non-magnetic) and not that cheap stuff used by most foreign manufacturers now days to wrap most of our modern appliances! This unit it American made and no cheap lightweight but a hefty, robust and sturdy unit that should last for many years.

When installing, be certain to re-inforce your mounting brackets as this is one heavy boy. Sucking 1,200 CFM of air means that every crack and crevice in your home will draft outside air to replace the vacuum.

Therefore we opted to install an air exchanger in our kitchen’s outside wall to alleviate this problem. Our older home was fortunate to have an old brick chimney from the basement, through the kitchen and out the roof.

As this unit was destined to be mounted next to said chimney, our contractor simply punched an 8″ hole in the chimney and vented it directly outdoors through the roof. However, come winter we quickly discovered a problem.

Cold air is heavier than warm air and would drift down the chimney and cool off the kitchen my up to 20 degrees F. This was quickly remedied by the installation of an automatic baffle to close off the chimney when the fan was not in use.

Therefore I would highly recommend that Z-Line consider pre-installing a baffle in ALL their units prior to merchandising them to the public. As for ours, it has become the show piece of our new kitchen.

Everyone comments on it and we are very proud and happy to have it as a new addition.

Beautiful range hood. Still remodeling, so I have not had a chance to use it. But the product is gorgeous and the as a great price.

Good looking product and well packaged. . I’m just disappointed I have to return it because I need a wall mounted vent not the island vent.

Purchased unit with remote blower and short chimney for a low kitchen ceiling over island stove and is working great! Product support was great both during the purchase process and follow up questions.

Due to a lower ceiling height and while maintaining room view, I had to modify the installation process. This was due to the fact that if I used both 12” chimney sections I would be 4” lower than the recommended 30” as the “telescoping” minimum is closer to 16” if following normal installation steps.

Per instructions, I first determined ceiling bracket location and marked/cut vent hole and predrilled the 4 corner mounting bolt locations, then installed attic ceiling blocking. (Now the installation was modified).

The 4 holes were then drilled through the blocking and bracket with 3/8″ bit. Once the “attic” was ready, I installed four 3/8″ x 4″ machine bolts in the ceiling bracket corners in the “up” position and secured in place with nuts on the ceiling side of bracket.

The holes in the ceiling “drywall” were also enlarged so the nuts would recess allowing the ceiling bracket to flush up tight. I installed a predetermined length of 8” solid vent pipe since local code (and most others) require non flexible ducting for hoods.

I then mounted the ceiling bracket to the hood with the supplied corner brackets though I did have to drill new holes in the brackets for mounting to the hood (as there is an upper and lower bracket).

The ceiling bracket lip also needed a slight grinding off of approximately 1/4” or so to match overall chimney length (11 3’4”) from hood to top of ceiling bracket. One short chimney was now installed down over the ceiling bracket with the top matching overall height to flush out to the ceiling.

Two friends easily lifted the hood assembly guiding the vent pipe and 3/8” bolts through the ceiling holes which I (in the attic) tightened up the nuts with washers with an impact tool. The kitchen side was now complete! Installing the remote blower onto the preinstalled vent pipe and through the roof was easily completed.

I would feel very comfortable purchasing and installing this system again! And now my gal doesn’t complain of cooking smells in the back of the house!!.

To begin with the installation instructions were just flat out wrong. I wanted a ductless hood with the “designer sconce on top” The designer version mounts differently than the non-designer, but my parts did not match the instructions.

Lights didn’t work at all & I had to get regulator replaced. Despite my thorough research that the vent would fit in my space it failed to work properly despite being installed according the the company specs.

The ductless chimney did not circulate the air out of the chimney and it was trapped. The customer service department argued with me for weeks never admitting their poor design, but in fact suggesting I should go to a metal worker to allow venting, or blaming my slanted ceiling (but I have a FLAT ceiling!), oar suggesting I sue my installer (for their design flaw???).

I eventually had to only install one part of the 2 part telescoping chimney and have a gap between the ceiling and the chimney. I am living with this investment but after this installation nightmare I found it is very loud and the switches are difficult to reach.

Beware, this is a very sketchy company.

The Good: This hood looks fantastic and the baffle filters give it a very professional appearance. Buttons are easy to operate and the Led light is much better than the one of the over range microwave we replaced.

Could be brighter though. The Bad: Suction isn’t great and there seems to be zero difference between low, medium and high settings This goes for the noise level as well, which is super loud. You have to turn up the TV when the fan is on.

There is absolutely no difference. Don’t know if this is normal. The Ugly: Installation took days. Our cabinets have a 1 inch recessed area underneath. We had to buy some wood, cut boards to size, rigg them up with glue and screws from above and below and then try to mark where to drill the holes into the wood below.

We were not going to spend over $100 on cabinet jacks, so my husband had to hold up the hood while I had to contort myself between him, the range and the cabinet to go in with a marker. The mounting hole at the front right is especially difficult since it is obscured by cables and the motor housing.

A template would have been nice, making this part so much easier. My husband was sore for days from holding up the hood in an awkward posture. Had I known it would be so hard, I would have hired someone for this job.

That clunky microwave was a breeze to install. One would think that a range hood that weighs less than half that would be easier. Not so. Conclusion: I did a lot of research and looked at countless hoods and reviews online, finally deciding this one was perfect.

Now I am not so sure I would buy it again. Options are limited when you have to go ductless and I am sure the vented options provide better suction, but the noise of the motor and installation method is not really acceptable.

Maybe my expectations were too high.

this is louder than i’d hoped but not a big bother. looks great. sleek design. took a bit of finangling to get it hooked up. power cord access hole right-of-center threw me a curve. power cable securing bracket is cheap and welded only on one side.

again, nit picking.

I recently purchased and installed a Hauslane UC-B018, and I am very happy with the purchase. I was able to successfully install the unit with only average difficulty. I would recommend this product to anyone wanting to upgrade their existing unit.

If you don’t have the electrical and ductwork in place, and you are not the handy type, then I would not recommend this as a do-it-yourself project. Even with those things in place, I did face some challenges, but the unit is in and working as advertised.

When replacing all our 1978 GE appliances with new ones the old hood had to go. NEW hood had to match new stove, etc. Bought the basic hood. primarily for ILLUMINATION rather than air handling. Hood cones with an A15 40W incandaescent bulb.

Bulb on this one is sequesterd by a light diffusing and dampening cover/lens. Did I mention a 40w. bulb? Original hood had a 60w bulb. The light in the new one is great for creating MOOD LIGHTING, however, if you are in the MOOD TO SEE what you are cooking, get a flashlight.

A quick call to customer service (Rebecca was great) regarding substitution of LEDs that consume less than 40w yielded NO USEFUL INFORMATION. Seems I should be able to make this substitution, use less than 40 watts and deliver several hundred more lumens than the A15 40W provided.

Rebecca escalated this inquiry and if all goes well, I’ll get a response on the morrow. Today is solstice so tomorrow MUST, by definition, be brighter!!! Great choice if you have auxilary illumination available.

or if you can substitute LEDs. NOT PLEASED this was manufactured in CHINA. if I’d have known I’d have shopped around. YES, I know that GE is owned by a CHINA corp.

This does a better job than the previous built in microwave did. This took me a good portion of the morning to install. I have no experience with this type of work and I think it turned out great. It definitely looks fabulous in my kitchen.

Please note, it does not come with a plug, but meant for hard wiring it. I purchased the plug from the GE website (hood purchased from Lowes). A YouTube video later, I was able to successfully hook up the plug and the unit works wonderful.

Looks sleek and modern. Looks good with the rest of the Samsung appliances that I have bought.

We like the style and functionality of this hood. The blower is quite strong and more than sufficient for our needs. The light is very bright and the timer is convenient. However, in our installation the hood chimney supplied was not tall enough and we needed to purchase an accessory piece that replaced the original.

Problem is that there was no mechanisim to return the original to the store. It ended up in the dump. BOSCH should have a way to provide one or the other size as needed and not have to dispose of the part not used.

Why not make the order specific from the outset? Appreciate your consideration on this.

We purchased this hood on sale at an appliance store and installed it over our GE profile range. It’s beautiful. And that’s about it. As someone else mentioned, the noise is incredible; I usually turn it on low only, which is plenty loud.

You can’t have any kind of conversation in the kitchen at all with this hood on high. Now, for the good part. when we’re cooking, AND we have it on high, I still smell whatever we’re cooking, throughout the house, during the cooking AND for a couple hours after cleanup.

I really don’t think it’s venting any cooking smells or heat out of the kitchen. I checked the fan with a piece of paper, and it does seem to suction the paper up onto itself, but why do I smell everything during and after? Anyway, I’m glad we didn’t pay full price for this hood.

Pretty sure I would not buy a Bosch again.

Less than 3 years ago, I fitted my new kitchen with mostly Bosch appliances because of their reputation for quality, and took out extended warranty on 3 of the five items. I didn’t think the warming drawer or chimney extractor fan would malfunction if they worked fine for the first covered year.

I was wrong. The timer function on the hood that I had come to rely on just stopped working after 2 ½ yrs. (apparently a ‘mother board’ issue). We have not had it fixed because of the high cost of parts and service.

The fan still works. However the metal filters are badly designed. When you release the catch they come flying down and hit the surface below very hard. (Unfortunately hitting my induction top and marking it), it happened again to my wife as I didn’t warn her in time.

Just bad design for releasing the filter units. Unfortunately the wall mount oven has also stopped working now. It may also be a motherboard issue. At least we paid for extended warranty on the oven.

We decided to call Bosch to see if they would help us, at least for the cost of the part for the chimney fan. They refused to help in ANY way. Legally fine but questionable whether they are being fair and customer oriented.

They obviously will not stand by their product even when it has been used gently and by a good Bosch customer. I am quite taken back. We have, to this point been proud of our Bosch kitchen and have shown it proudly.

Now I am more than hesitant to recommend Bosch, and if you do buy Bosch, get all the warranties you can, because you will more than likely need them. The Bosch focus on Quality product and service are very much in decline.

We purchase this in May 2021. This week the light bulb burned the plastic lens cover. the same bulb has been in it since it was installed the recommended 75 Watt. I contacted Frigidaire and was informed that part is not covered by the warranty.

I had to purchase a new cover and it was $50. 00. I am disappointed in this product.

The hood itself is not solid stainless steel, there is no cover under the vents so it will be harder to clean the inner surfaces as it is exposed and not covered. This will make life cleaning the hood that much harder.

I would not recommend this item. I would recommend Hone Depot.

This is a good hood and works well. I used a regular philips screwdriver but it was hard to remove the screw for tue white plastic that holds the filter. I had to use a pointed philips head instead.

This unit has a automatic shutoff feature that senses heat from the cooktop and turns the unit off after a few minutes if no heat is detected. We have an induction cooktop, which of course does not radiate heat itself but heats pots through induction.

Even if we had two or three large pots going on the cooktop, the fan would turn off. There is no way to bypass the shut off. We asked the salesperson and Whirlpool customer service if there was any problem with induction before installing the unit.

None of the marketing material, the salespeople at the appliance store, nor Whirlpool customer service were aware of this design flaw. And of course you can’t return these appliances once they’re out of the box, although the retailer where we purchased it did reluctantly take it back after we paid a hefty restocking fee.

Other issues which should convince you to avoid this product: – Whirlpool customer service is completely useless. I contacted them for ducting requirements before installing the unit. All they would do is to refer me to a local installer.

However, the installer would only tell me that they “don’t do ducting”, although they would be happy to charge me $200 to hang the unit on the wall as long as the ducting is already in place. – The unit is very clumsy to hang compared to the Venmar hood I replaced it with.

The hanging screws are located in the motor housing which is made of very cheap and flimsy sheet metal. The Venmar, on the other hand, provided a proper hanging bracket that is much easier to position and install, and is also much more stable and reliable.

I spoke to a Kitchen Aid customer support person and wanted to provide feedback on the quality of Kitchen aid products. I was advised to leave a review here. So here I am to provide my feedback on this ‘top of the line’ product (42 inch island mount) that is great but the manufacturing quality of this is subpar.

Beyond this, Kitchen aid does not stand behind their products and when things go south their contracted service providers are the least helpful and on paper factory-trained but have no clue how to fix issues with their appliances.

From day 1 of installation this unit has an issue of internal wiring because of which the perimeter lights flickered and not always worked. The Kitchen aid FACTORY TRAINED technician fixes the problem by applying some tape on the wires under the hood.

The problem resurfaces after 4 months and now the technician comes and supposedly orders a part that I am still waiting on after 8 months. Disappointed with the service provider, I call Kitchen aid and explain them the problem.

Kitchen aid now tells me that the unit is out of warranty and I have to pay for the diagnosis and repair. Keep your fingers crossed with this unit. If it works, great. If not, Kitchen aid will not stand behind their products and you are on your own.

Had the unit installed as part of a kitchen remodel. Looks great, worked great for about 14 months. The night light feature decided to stay on all the time. The switch will not turn on/off the light.

The support team suggested I disconnect power to reset it and it still is just on non-stop. They sent out a tech and he clearly had no idea why it stayed on and suggested that the circuit board is bad, $400+ repair cost.

I told him I’d think about it and got charged $100 for a service call. No way an appliance that I paid over $1,000 should only work well for just over a year. Disappointed in how the support group treated me.

I had this installed by professionals a little over a month ago. The sales team was excellent in helping me select what would work in my existing kitchen and actually recommended one that had an excellent rating and less expensive.

I went with the Whirlpool, because I wanted it to match my new oven and refrigerator. Well there is no LOGO on this hood, so what difference did that make? This was the most expensive unit and it did not come with a trim Ring to go around the duck that goes to the ceiling.

So now I have the additional cost of having someone do spackling and painting around the hood. Was there supposed to be a trim ring in the kit??? This is an attractive looking hood. It’s quiet on low and medium and a bit louder high.

Venting is good. Has nice lighting around the glass. It does show the grease and the glass steams up and streaks. Must be cleaned regularly. But so far all seems to be working okay.

We have only had this range hood in operation for just over two months. The hood is attractive and the vent system works well. It is quiet except for the high level but that is expected. In just two months the light bulb burned out.

I was more that shocked to find the replacement bulb can only be purchased from Whirlpool or its authorized dealers. It is a special bulb and no regular bulb will fit. The cost of the bulb is $26. 76 EACH plus shipping which cost me an additional $8.

99. If I have to replace bulbs every two months that will be a significant expenditure over a year. I will not be purchasing any other Whirlpool appliances and may look to replace this one with another brand.

Beautiful hood, performs well and is relatively quiet. Installation could be better thought out – utilizing a bracket similar to hanging a microwave would be an improvement. Providing longer covers to accommodate the more typical ceiling heights in today’s kitchens would be a plus.

Love my new hood. Beautiful lighting and solid performance. Great product. Easy to use, easy to clean. No complaints so far. It also perfectly matched my Ilve 36″ in black. Lovely and high performing appliances.

The fan speeds, light indicator, lights and all the functions work well. I like the anti-grease filter and the over all looks of this wall mount range. It is also easy to install. I am very happy I found this product from this shop.

Nice solid filters that never have to be replaced. It works really good and is moving a lot of air. It looks great and quite easy to install. I’ve been using it for a while now and so far, no issue at all.

The price is also reasonable and overall, I am satisfied with my order.

Our first hood was damaged ( we think in the factory). Wayfair sent a new unit very quickly! Fan is very quiet on the lowest setting, but does get very noisy on the highest settings. It seems to work well venting heat.

Easy to install.

Exactly what I was looking for! This thing will move some air! Its a little heavy so its best to have two people when installing it. Wayfair was also fantastic to deal with, I recommend them highly!

Looks good over my GE range. Works good too. I installed myself which was a little bit of a struggle because had to lift over my head. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. The only thing I’d say negative is no where in description did I read had to buy power cord.

If was there wasn’t noticeable.

It went in readily enough. the fan works but is very loud. I regret mightily that there is no grease shield over the light bulb. no need for extra work in keeping things clean. am currently looking for a less bright bulb as it is impossible to use as a night light if you are of small stature.

This is a simple range hood with a light and two speed fan. It does the job but is very noisy, I mean like there is a jet in the kitchen. We chose to vent it to the outside rather than recirculate the filter air or vent into the attic.

Neither of those choices seemed to make sense. It is powerful enough to get steam and cooking smells out so I’m well satisfied with it’s basic function, which is to get the air out of the kitchen. I would recommend this unit as long as you can live with the noise.

Working great!! Can’t smell anything when I use it for cooking BBQ. Easy to clean up for Hood covers, just isolated from hood and leave it into sink with detergents. That’s it! I like the light brightness adjustment.

Not worth the extra money for the VIKING emblem. The installation crew was GREAT. I am pretty handy with stuff like this – but – having put a zillion of them in – it went up quick and smooth. It’s still noisy and not much of an upgrade from the one we took out.

Save some money and get one with the same quality for 100’s if not a thousand less.

This replaced an old hood that had stopped working. We tend to cook a lot of bacon and other meats on the stove, and it made a difference right away in containing the grease and smoke smell that would typically linger throughout the house.

While it’s a bit hard to hear anything when it’s cranking full blast, it’s clearly working and probably similar to other similar devices. Love how easy it is to take out the grates to clean, vs. the mesh grate on the previous unit we owned.
