20 Best Exhaust For Ram 1500 (2023 Updated)

This is a great improvement over the factory muffler for my 2015 Laramie. It is a direct bolt in replacement and involved no cutting at all. Just a helpful hint for those about to buy this. have a blow torch ready just to heat the clamped areas to get the factory muffler out.

Without the torch, mine would not have come off. But it just used basic tools and bolts right in. Sounds amazing. Definitely aggressive but I’m still young so I like it lol. Seriously though, it’s loud.

Idle sounds perfect, high rpm gets a little bit raspy but that’s just from the lack of a muffler and I expected that. If you want it LOUD, but this one. if not then buy a different bolt in from these guys, but stick with this company! It’s the best bang for your buck.

It came with quality clamps and everything lined up perfectly! They definitely know what they are doing at Totalflow!.

Installation of both the Flowmaster muffler and a K&N 700 cold air intake in my driveway took me about 1. 5 hours and was surprisingly easy. Just make sure you have the hanger removal tool and lubricate it.

I don’t have a lift, no jack, no ramp, I just slid under the truck and there was enough room to get everything done. After I started the engine, my first impression was “Wow — this is LOUD!” So if you are having kids, this might not be for you.

The sound is absolutely terrific: a nice DEEP rumble & growl, just like a V8 Hemi is supposed to sound like. You can barely hear it when you coast, but all hell break loose when you floor it! Took my wife for a spin and warned her that it is loud, but to my surprise she said “Fantastic sound, this is how a truck is supposed to sound like — very subtle and beautiful tone!” So all is good :-).

So here’s what I can tell you, the muffler itself is completely as advertised. It added a nice slow rumble that sounds much better than stock. For me personally what I learned is that I should have went ahead and spend the extra money to get the full cat pack.

With installing this muffler, the robustness of the noise comes mainly from the back of the truck and what I was hoping for was more of an all-around sound coming from the actual engine. However I admit that I am new to this kind of thing and this might have been common knowledge to everyone else.

All in all it is a good product. But if you were on the fence whether you should spend the money, go ahead.

It was a little difficult to install due to the end of the pipe being bent slightly, wasn’t packaged well but it was packed. But when I put in on and the first thought was I’m in love. I wish I would have bought the full exhaust because the sound my truck now makes, makes it hard not to smile when you’re on gas.

There is ZERO done. When you’re cruising on the highway it’s a nice very mild tone but when you get on gas it’s like having viagra on the gas pedal. I instantly smile and even got my wife to smile with it.

I recommend a CAI to go with it. The hardest part of the whole instillation was getting the old paperweight middle out of the exhaust hanger but with A long Flathead screwdriver and a little manpower it’s easily done.

Installation was swift and about an hour. Honestly it took longer finding the right sockets than installing the new muffler.

The install was easy for me since I am a bit more mechanically inclined. I did it in my driveway without a jack or even a sawsall. The hardest part was pulling the old muffler off the hangers so do yourself a favor and lube them up! Other than that it lined right up and everything fit perfectly.

Install took about an hour. The sound is fantastic I think. The tone is deep and you can hear that hemi, but it’s not overwhelming or obnoxious. At highway speeds its barely noticeable at all. My wife was worried it would be too loud in the morning but after hearing it she loves it.

Would definitely recommend this muffler.

Quality is great and it comes with all the hardware. Shipping was great too and was easy to install. Took maybe 30-45 minutes. Sound is has that deep tone, without being obnoxious, and is exactly what I was looking for.

BUT!!!!!!!! EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE AWARE OF THIS. There is a problem that I have that has nothing to do with the muffler, but the truck itself (2021 Ram Bighorn). I will assume that everyone will deal with this problem that is why I am going to write this part.

This thing sounds absolutely horrible when ECO mode engages, which is most of the time. It sounds like a muffled Jake Brake on a big rig and you will have cab drone like no other when it happens, with or without the windows open.

It is absolutely annoying and will make your ears flutter. With that being said, you do have a couple options, either turn up the radio (pretty loud) so you don’t hear/feel it, or disengage ECO mode by selecting your gear limits.

There are some cons with that. It will sound like garbage to if you choose the radio path, or you will loose gas mileage if you choose to gear limit to disengage ECO mode. When ECO mode is disengaged, it is absolutely perfect.

Can’t say I enjoy my gas mileage when it is. I honestly wish that I could go back to stock but I cant because the old system is rendered trash when you cut it off. With that being said, I am only going to give 3 stars because I feel this is information that the manufacturer should provide before you purchase.

From the quiet stock to the perfect mild rumble that is loud when you want to get on it. Pairs perfectly with the JLT intake for balance of engine and exhaust noise. The hardest part is taking the old muffler off.

I cut the muffler per the instructions and lubed the rubber hangers with WD40. Taking off the pipe wedged into the resonator was a real pain. Putting it on was pretty quick. I had to buy a new 2. 5″ clamp for the connection to the old pipe as my original welded clamp was trash.

Sounds great!.

Dont waste your time on the others. Buy this one. Nothing will substitute. Best, meanest exhaust I have ever purchased. Took 2 1/2 hours in the driveways with hand tools, some WD-40, and my recip saw (1 cut just like the instruction say) to remove and reinstall.

Just makes sure you have a hanger removal tool (trust me). Ordered on a Saturday and it was at my house by Tuesday with no shipping fees. She sounds mean and my 16 yr old grins like a little kid every time he hears it crank.

Installed these today on my 2019 Ram 345 Hemi. It was easy. Just open the box and look at the exhaust tips compared to OEM and you’ll get excited and may grunt. As expected, getting the tail pipes aligned takes some time.

Ideally, it’s a 2 person job. When removing OEM muffler, just go ahead and cut the passenger side exit pipe on the muffler. If you do that you do not need to drop the spare tire or mess with the rear sway bar linkage.

Did I mention the sound is amazing? It is. ZERO drone at any speed or gear. It’s actually quiet on the highway, but hit the throttle and it’s all hot rod. Deep, throaty, with a touch of rasp. Badass, I did notice some torque improvement, but with the Air Grabber, headers, Pulsar PCM, it’s hard to say.

Again, installed today so not mapped in yet. Even if you’re just looking for sound, worth ever penny.

The Borla S-Type is a great sounding cat-back system. It has a deep throaty tone without the drone. You can control the volume with the pedal. It can get pretty loud if you want it to, or civilized by feathering the throttle.

At cruising speeds it’s barely audible. You can still have a conversation with a passenger, talk on the phone, or listen to the radio, but when you step on it, you can certainly tell it’s a V8. It’s made with 304 stainless steel, so no worries about rust, and 5” rolled black chrome tips look great in the rear bumper cut-outs.

I definitely recommend Borla for overall sound and quality.

The Mufflsr is a good one with tone and a bit of extra kick. There is one it we m that left me very disappointed. The muffler is made of steel plain old steel. At just over the 3 year mark one of the outlets rotted threw right at r he hanger.

The other side is still okay but that clamp is also rotting out bad. Called Flowmaster but u hat muffler is warranted for a short 3 years. I wish I had bought it from this site but did not but all other items will be.

So after paying hundreds of dollars for the muffler it let me c own with rotting support rods the 3 inch intake pipe not being able to tighten enough so its not lose, and then the one pipe rotting off.

I bought the brand thinking I would get better service life from it but its not even c lose to the mikes and time I have gotten out of cheap mufflers Good mufflers tone sound and easy install. Bad sports rotting way to fast and then having one of the two exit pipes also to off.

Muffler was bought and installed in calif. It spent the winter of 2018 in Iowa then the next winter tell mid Jan. The rest of last winter its been in south west Missouri. Would I recommend it? Yes if they change the warranty and build it better like most of there none steel mufflars that have limeted life time warrantys.

This is definitely a loud exhaust, but oddly enough there is no drone inside the cab. Love the way this sounds. Install was super easy even in the driveway. If you don’t plan on keeping the factory exhaust, a sawzall definitely helps with the rear section removal.

S Type is top quality and look, it took me 2 hrs to install. Keep in mind with your stock catalytic converter It greatly reduces how loud your pipes will be. But it still has the growl of Borla though.

I have installed Borla S-type on other vehicles with an aftermarket Cat only to find sensor trouble because the Aftermarket catalytic converter is not compatible. On this install I decided to use the stock catalytic converter as a result.

Awesome deep growl at idle. Zero drone or any anyoing characteristics,just as asvertised. My wife actually thinks the truck sounds quieter at crusing speeds,but get on the gas and watch out! This is the best exhaust I have ever had on any vehicle.

You can spend half as much on similar systems( which I was tempted to do), but don’t. Borla spends time and money making each system for each vehicle perfect! It’s loud when it should be. Quiet when it should be.

Just awesome!!! The big 5″ tips fit the cut outs perfectly. They don’t stick out like a sore thumb.

Exhaust is great. Packaging and shipping…not so much. The hangers poked holes all over the box and in the parts bag. Some smaller parts were missing. I called and they wanted me to prove the parts were lost during shipping.

Seriously?! It was easier to go to the local parts store for the missing items.

There has been no disappointments in buying the flowmaster cat back turbo II series exhaust. I couldn’t wait to get my new exhaust on my 98 dodge and thanks to auto anything my shipment came extremely quick.

The installation was very simple. The only part that was complicated was dismounting the old exhaust (thanks to utahs salty roads). The sound is mild but mean enough. Loud exhaust is cool for about a week.

You’ll never get tired of the way you baby purrs with this kit.

Wanted some sound on my Ram 1500 bighorn. Went with the Atack version. Was afraid that it might be too loud, but it’s not. Nice rumble idling and really sounds good when you hit the gas. The only drawback I’ve found is that my gas mileage will probably decrease because I like the sound so much that I can’t keep my foot off the gas.

Sounds amazing and very user friendly to put on. From start to finish took about an hour an a half. I was able to do it with standard tools nothing special needed. I would definitely recommend this product!.

These pipes give my Hemi the rumble it deserves. Tailpipes look good. However, the right tail pipe was bent in. I had to find a local shop to straighten it. Looks good now, sounds great!

I’m absolutely loving this muffler. If you want more growl from your hemi but not be obnoxious, this is a great option. Cold starts are the best! Lol. After warmed up, the tone is just a cool low V8 growl that anyone can appreciate.

As for any drone noise, I’d say there is some but only heard at freeway speeds and when there isn’t any music playing. The only drawback is the undesirable sound from when eco mode (MDS) kicks in. It can be a bit annoying, but if it’s that bad, I can always disable the mds later.

The install went great. I did it myself in my driveway in about 2 hrs but that’s because I was documenting everything. It can likely be done in 1 hr. Drive the rear up on ramps. (If you have the air suspension, remember to raise it all the way up for even more clearance).

Put a block under the factory muffler for extra support. A second pair of hands would be nice, but NOT necessary. The provided directions say to measure back from the muffler about 1″ or so for your cut.

The install video from American Trucks says to cut along the weld. I cut along the weld, but I believe either location is fine. There’s plenty of pipe length from the slip fit to get a good seal. Be sure to de-bur the rough cut with a file or dremel tool.

Remove rear hangars (get yourself an exhaust hangar removal tool from Amazon for $20. It makes it much easier). Remove ground strap by the flange. Remove front hangar. Don’t be surprised if this takes some muscle here.

Lubrication is your friend! 16mm socket for the flange bolts. Be careful with that gasket since you’ll be reinstalling it! I cleaned mine up then put it back on. Place provided clamp on end of muffler.

Lubricate all hangars. Attach front hangar first (near the flange) then the rear. Bolt up the flange with 14mm socket and wrench. Tighten clamp with 15mm deep socket. Reattach the ground strap. (I had to pinch my ground a but because I think the diameter of the flowmaster hangar was a tad smaller than factory.

No biggie. That’s it!.

After looking at many different muffler. I got this Flowmaster. Shipping was very quick, and was well package. And the quality of the muffler was awesome. Almost to nice to put on my truck. LOL. I was looking for a sound that was close to the factory sound but more aggressive.

At idle and cruise speed sound like factory. But when you give it some gas you get a nice mild and aggressive sound. I would say the loudest is a 5, won’t wake the neighbors in the morning, but when you pull out of the subdivision people will know you have a V8.

Install took about 1 1/2 hours with hand tools. Be sure to spray all bolts and hour before you. Good luck.

I liked the fact that installation was straightforward and no welding involved. It added a nice deep throaty sound to the truck without being overbearing. Inside the cab it’s quiet. At cruising speed you barely hear it….

not a drone of any kind. When you put your foot into it, it sounds great. I say it took an afternoon to install…because that was the closest option to choose, when in fact, it was a little over an hour.

Sound: I live in a nice quiet cul-de-sac right near my son’s elementary school so didn’t want something obnoxious but wanted to uncork the muted stock hemi. A few reviews had said even the Progressive was too loud but that was not common so I pulled the trigger.

It is perfect. Aggressive at cold start without being over the top. Great tone and volume under acceleration yet subtle when cruising at freeway speeds – I hear more wind noise than exhaust. My guess is that the Competitor version would have been too loud for the neighbors.

Install: Given the age and mileage on most of these trucks removing the stock muffler by itself will be a little difficult. As others have suggested, it is much easier to just remove the rear section tailpipes (muffler to tips) from the hangers so that you can wiggle these off easily first, then wiggle off the muffler.

Dish soap is a great lubricant for rubber on metal hangers and will just dry/evaporate. My only criticism of the Carven is that the factory muffler has little half-circle cutouts that mate up to a rivet on the stock exhaust pipes order to center the rear tips.

Carven could have made these same cutouts on the muffler that would interlock with the stock exhaust rivets to make alignment even easier. This is really nitpicking though so just a minor improvement they could make.

Value: Yes, there are universal fit mufflers that are cheaper but having a plug and play setup for only a little more money is totally worth it. Given how easy it is to install along with the fantastic sound I have a hard time justifying the price jump up to a full exhaust system.

Your first turn of the key will sound like $330 well spent. I’m pretty sure the Carven mufflers (Competitor + Progressive series) handily outsell every other exhaust/muffler option available for the Ram because it is just a slam dunk.

Great price, great sound, great value – easy decision.

If you are thinking that this may be not loud enough after reading the Other reviews, I promise you that you’re wrong. This thing absolutely roars when you gas it, and idles very nicely. This muffler is the ideal thing if you want want to catch people’s attention as you go by.

It’s insanely aggressive sounding and also quite deep. My brother says he can hear me coming from half a mile away. This thing also has a cold start for the books, and I can’t get enough of it. I’ve discovered that you can also make a pop/crack Sound if you 2 step it while cruising.

All V8 rams need to sound like this and I’ve never been more satisfied. If you are on the fence about the progressive or competitor, get the progressive. I can’t even imagine how loud the competitor would be.

But seriously, this muffler is absolutely perfect if you want your truck to sound like a V8 beast.

I just recently purchased this direct fit. As long as you have the right tools it is a very easy install. It is a direct fit as said. The sound is great, not overly load from the inside which makes it nice when trying to have a conversation with passengers.

Definitely, good bang for your buck, if your looking for that deeper noticeable sound. Without the high price of a complete new system.

Previously helped a buddy install the Touring on his 2020 Silverado. He was disappointed that it wasn’t louder. Install for the S-type on my 2019 Ram was quicker and easier. Took just over an hour, including removing the factory exhaust.

I did have to go back and adjust the tip length and recenter them in the bumper cutouts. The tips seemed to move some after the obligatory test drive. To me it’s a touch too loud, and my wife hates it, which is probably the point.

So maybe I do like it 😉 Did both installs in my driveway with rear tires on ramps. Used simple hand tools and a reciprocating saw. Videos watched before hand were helpful. Borla quality is excellent.

Packaging was top notch. Ordered on Friday evening and was delivered on Sunday afternoon. Amazing! Too early to tell if it makes a difference in horsepower or fuel economy. Probably won’t help with mileage since I’m heavier on the accelerator now, letting that exhaust sing!.

As always Sumitt was outstanding. I was disappointed in Magnaflow. I received my Magnaflow 19429 Exhaust System with one of the coupling ends bent (picture included). I expected more being Magnaflow was one of the higher priced systems for my 2019 Ram.

Also the exhaust gasket was in bad shape as well. Luckily I was able to reuse the original one. Installation was not bad after fixing the bent coupler. Exhaust tip alignment was tricky especially on the side the coupler was bent.

Magnaflow sounds great with minimum interior sound at highway speeds. Magnaflow just needs to step up on their quality control when packing their product.

It has a great rumble without being excessively loud. Just sounds great! Only issue is the way it aligns coming out the back. The driver side, when set up to stick out even with the passenger side cannot be centered in the exhaust opening in the bumper.

To center it causes it to locate behind the bumper. Not awful, barely noticeable but still exists. Otherwise it’s the best!.

This was my birthday present and I couldn’t be more pleased. I felt it was a very good value, fits well and installs easily.

This MBRP kit is a nice mix of thick gauge aluminized steel, stainless tip and heavy plated hardware. Over-axle bends are accurate, the weld quality is good, tip construction and attachment are nice.

Sound is also throaty with no noticable rasp in or outside. Cabin sound it up maybe 20%, but no drone. Outside noise is up 50+%, but still sounds good. Good burble, but can’t get a bit “straight-pipe-loud” in the 3k+ range at WOT.

Tip placement is very factory-appearance: nearly level, good exit angle, and doesn’t sit too far out of the lower bed side. Main issues were the intermediate pipe not being crimped/flared correctly. Having a stock converter/pipe and a clean, non-damaged pipe, the intermediate pipe had a reducing crimp instead of an expansion flare.

The crimp made the pipe the exact same OD as the cat pipe. Turning the pipe around (non-modified side) yielded the same result: the pipe was too small. Some cutting and connector sleeve later, it fits.

The front muffler hanger/clamp was also too short to reach the rubber hanger. If I pulled it over enough, the pipe/muffler connection was near 15 degrees off center. Clamped it and let it float. Overall, pretty nice kit for the money, but not flawless.

Maybe the stainless version (with the band-clamp hardware) has better fit?.

Nice looking exhaust. The price was right. I did not rate ease of installation because I paid someone $100 to weld it together and weld in on my truck. This system replaced an aftermarket dual exhaust that really rumbled.

This system is a bit more quiet, which I like because the duals were very loud on the highway. Also the duals extended 3-4 inches past my bumper and would often bust up my legs when working out of the back of the truck with the tailgate closed.

I like this exhaust.

I put this exhaust system on my ’04 Hemi Ram 1500. This exhaust has an amazing sound! What ended up getting to me though was the loud drone that’s was constantly heard inside the cab when driving around town.

That being said, this system was very high quality and installed with out any issues and fit the truck perfectly.

I installed the Stainless Pypes 4” on my 2011 F150 3. 5 Ecco, an extended cab Supercab with 6 1/2 ft bed. I was very happy with the final outcome. I did use a sawzall to cut the pipe to length, I strapped the pipe to the front corner of my utility trailer used as a vice made it very easy to cut thru.

I purchased (2) grade 5 bolts at Menards to bolt to the exhaust flange the ones that came with It were too short. I ended up using my original pipe hanger clamp the very last one before the polished tip it lined up better than the one that came with the kit.

I cleaned up my original hanger on a wire wheel and coated it with some black “Chassis Saver” it’s a rust preventive paint, I was able to use the new threaded U clamp around the pipe and thru my old hanger.

All the rest of the provided pipe hangers lined up perfectly, I was very happy with the final results the exhaust seemed very solid next to no movement and sounded good. I purchased a tube of Permatex Exhaust sealant and was able to reach inside the polished tip after it was mounted and laid a bead around the pipe the tip slipped over this insured it was going anywhere including someone wanting to remove it in a parking lot, it is a nice looking stainless polished tip!! I am happy with the final result, I purchased this because I wanted the stainless I live in Ohio where we have plenty of salt on are roads in the winter this was priced better than all the other similar exhaust that weren’t stainless, all the parts and muffler canister seemed to be made of nice quality material, time will tell how it holds up.

Seems very nice you can’t beat the price!.

I was hesitant to put an exhaust on my 3. 5 EcoBoost and did a lot of research before buying this set up. After having it on for a few days now I am so happy I went this direction. It sounds so good and I couldn’t be happier with it.

It has a good deep rumble at startup and idle but very little drone at cruising speeds in town and barely noticeable on the highway until you step on the gas. You can’t beat the quality of this stainless system for the price and the install is easy and straightforward after watching a couple YouTube videos on it.

It took me about 2 hours to install with a buddy, and would have been shorter but I ended up cutting the mid pipe a second time to dial in the fit just how I wanted it.

To start- no instructions. It is a very basic to install exhaust but it took a call to the company to find out the mid pipe needs to be cut. I had to take 5. 5 inches out of mine to fit my truck. Doesn’t quite fit the idea of “simple bolt on kit.

” No matter how I position the mid pipe, muffler, and tail pipe the hanger to be installed will not line up on the frame as seen in other pictures. The tail pipe actually firmly rides against the frame and spring mount.

With the Y pipe and tips attached they stick out the full width of the tip and clamp. Hideous. The only positive part of this kit is how good it sounds.

Not really very aggressive sounding. Probably a little more than stock. Went on very nicely. The real question will be longevity. Everything is getting so expensive, seems like a lot of money for a muffler and tailpipes.

But was the cheapest I could find. Had a 10% off coupon so that helped.

Install wasn’t terrible. It did take longer than I expected but o major issues. But the sound of this exhaust. wow. Too early to notice any MPG gains, but the sound. I can’t say enough. Does drone a bit around 1700rpm but the 8 speed shifts out of that range pretty quickly.

At idle and cruise 55-75mph you barely hear it but acceleration sounds great.

Didn’t even come close to fitting. Would have fit an extended cab/bed truck perfectly. The pipes are all way to long. You can only cut so much on the provided pipe because it can only go on the hangers one way.

Professional shops in my area don’t even wanna use the provided pipe. Extremely overpriced and WRONG fit&finish kit. Sounds great. Does drone though. Performance gain was noticable but I do have to spend extra money to have a custom shop make the pipes look like the picture to my trucks fitment.

I’m leaving a negative review to warn other single cab standard bed owners and because the description clearly states this kit simply “bolts on” to ALL F150 bed/cab combinations. Using factory hangers “NO CUTTING, WELDING OR DRILLING REQUIRED”.

BOLOGNA. There were also no instructions provided. I’ve installed long tube header kits on corvettes and mustangs that wasn’t this frustrating. I paid 500 dollars for a muffler, y pipe and some muffler tips essentially.

Heavily disappointed.

Installed this system on a 1998 Ram 1500 5. 2. The pipes are properly bent and good quality steel. The system fit well and was an easy install. The only area this system is lacking in is the clamps and hangers.

The 2 1/4″ clamp is a light duty one and the saddle crushed when it was tightened. The 3″ hanger with 2 hanger rods welded to it for the mid pipe was not built properly and I was unable to use it. When installed it caused the pipe to hang off to one side and would not align with the muffler.

I ended up using the factory mid pipe with the factory hanger and cut the new mid pipe shorter to fit in front of the muffler. The system sounds great, but just required a bit of tweaking to make it fit.

I put this on my ex cab short bed 5. 9L 4×4 Ram 1500. I was happy with the quality of the pipes, but the muffler was about as cheap as a turbo muffler could be. It has 3″ inlet/outlet but it necks down to 2.

5″ inside the muffler so you don’t really gain anything there. Plus the clamps were very light duty to where you have to be careful not to strip the threads. The big disappointment was the sound at idle.

It should have a nice mellow bass tone, but it sounded like the muffler was already blown out? it’s hard to explain, but normally a 5. 9L magnum sounds great through any aftermarket muffler and this one just sounds weird.

I was happy that under acceleration and highway cruise, it’s very mellow almost completely quiet. I would recommend it, but I will probably install a different muffler in the next year for the sole purpose to sound better at idle.

No directions but was pretty easy to figure out. Nice product and sounds good but a little louder and throater than stock.
