20 Best Exhaust For Mustang Ecoboost (2023 Updated)

First of all, I was deciding between this MBRP Cat-back and a Flowmaster outlaw axle back with a Y-pipe. Went with this one to not annoy the neighbors too much. I’m glad I went with this one. Sound is perfect, nice and deep.

There is a low, very very deep rumble at idle. I now exclusively remote start my mustang because it sounds so good! It’s quite loud when you give it some gas. And it pops and gurgles too. I’ve watched pretty much every video on YouTube about this exhaust, and let me say the videos don’t do it justice at all.

I recorded me doing some revs and I can notice a huge difference between the actual sound and the sound the video produces. Only complaint is the performance gains, they’re decent but not as much as I was hoping for.

I wasn’t able to get the stock exhaust off, so I decided to take it to a shop to get it installed.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Stock exhaust on these s550 is too quiet and kind of raspy. This mbrp street cat-back has an excellent deep tone and screams whenever you hit the gas. I wanted something with some bark while still being mindful of my neighbors.

Cold start is definitely louder but it is not obnoxiously loud like corsa extremes can be at times. It has a nice rumble at low RPM’s which I love. When you floor it, man oh man, it sounds like freedom.

It even burbles a little now. It drones a little around 2k RPM’s or around 60-65mph but it is not bad. I’ve gotten used to it and I usually drive 70+mph on the highway so I don’t really deal with the drone.

I’ve gotten so many complements in just a few days on how it sounds. Perfect exhaust for a deep tone, loud when you want it to be and won’t break the bank.

I have always been a flow master fan, and I knew I wanted to do flow master in my mustang. When it comes to the outlaws I have very few complaints and more compliments. I did the install myself in my driveway, it took longer to get my jack un-seized then it did to actually cut and clamp.

I spent roughly 2 hours and 43 minutes on the actually install. I can’t put this in either a con or a pro, mostly as I think it is a pro, but other would hate it, on a stock header and mid these axle backs will drone and vibrate and make all the sounds that make me VERY happy.

at 47-64mph or just over 2300rpms under load they will cause a vibration that I feel in my neck and my lighter on my center tray, it does go away quickly aslong as you don’t dilly dally on getting up to speed.

But personally, I LOVE THAT! To me the drone at highway speed and that short lived vibration getting to highway is what makes alot of it fun and sexy, I know not everyone wants that, but I suppose the ones not wanting that should just stay stock or do an entire system headers to tips with what you have seen or heard that you like.

for me? I love my drone and deep rasp, I want my engine to sound raw and primal. Pros: The sound is truly amazing on the V6 really brings my big block v6 to life, I love the loudness and can’t get enough of it.

the black finish really accents the color of my car, (deep impact metallic blue) I love seeing the tips sticking out at just the right length adding to the sleek rear of my car. Cons: I cannot stress enough that you must note the ride hiehgt of your car before driving off once installed.

My car sits about one inch lower then a stock 2015 mustang and at first these pips were REAL close to the ground, I theorized that hitting a dip or bump would make them actually drag. I got a little better clearance from them with some wiggling and re tightening but I will admit they do still feel quite low.

I was disappointed with shipping. they did not come as wrapped up as I would have licked and ended up rubbing together and scuffing the black finish on the tips themselves, luckily it seems to just be a standard black heat treated paint so I did a little blending and they look good enough to not destroy my mood with them.

I would like to see some more care put into them being wrapped.

For the price, the exhaust is great. It’s twice the rumble and twice the volume of the factory exhaust and sounds much meaner at WOT. I highly recommend it. Also really easy to install. It took me about 40 minutes per stock exhaust to remove and 15 min per FX exhaust to install.

Way better sound and much more space under the car. I work on my cars myself so that matters to me too. I do recommend painting the weld joints with a high quality hi-temp rust prohibitive paint. I did that myself and also noticed it was recommended on the install guide.

Note that I rated the Loudness with a 5 star but I interpreted that to mean sound quality which I give 5 star. I guess on a loudness scale, I would rate the stock loudness a 2 out of a possible 5 and the FM FX exhaust a 3.

5 – 4 out of 5 on a 1-5 scale. I marked performance gain with a 3 star because I can’t tell if there’s a difference at all and so left it neutral. Install less than an hour but that’s for the ‘install’ and does not include the time for the removal of the stock cans.

Did alot of window shopping and listened to alot of sound clips. Went with Flowmaster Outlaws!!! 500 bucks 409 stainless dual Outlaws hell yeah! Now to the sound. I wanted to keep resonator because I wanted to stay away from rice burner spoilers, making way too much noise and all that jazz.

Very impressed with the tone and sounds. When you’re on the pedal it sounds really good and you can hear the Outlaws but not excessively loud it’s great. Also when the 10R80 is just doing speed limits or just cruising it’s not loud in the cab at all it’s actually pretty mellow.

I like that. On the other hand when you are 3/4 or full pedal you will be impressed and you will like it. Sounds damn good for a 4 banger car! I would like to put them on my 93 hatchback foe sure!!! Also it’s way easier to take to muffler shop.

Clamps are for radiator hoses not exhaust pipes lol lol. They put it on lift and welded them on for 100$.

After wanting a GT for years, I finally had the means and happened upon a low mileage garage kept 2013 that was all stock. I’ve tried all the extremes on an exhaust system I have kept completely stock up to the axlebacks.

The stock mufflers were way too quiet (it’s a GT for crying out loud) so I wanted something noisier (but not too noisy) and went with the GT500s. That’s a fine product but after a while still not noisy enough for me, so being untrusting of the audio on videos I saw, I went too far the other way with basically expensive muffler deletes.

I’m an older guy and most of the time the cabin was on the verge of being painfully loud, so loud the enjoyment was lost, plus my neighbors were hating me. I installed the Roushes myself and they are exactly what I was looking for.

They are plenty noisy, but never overbearing (although my neighbors probably still do not like cold starts). And they shine even under 3k rpm, where I stay probably 75 percent of the time. Highly highly recommended.

I would add I did need to loosen the bolts on the stock midpipes to get everything centered in the valance. I was concerned about messing with the midpipes at first but it worked fine. Just loosen the two midpipe bolts then rotate as needed to get the tips where you want them, then tighten them followed by the axleback clamps.

Looks great, sounds awesome, great fun to drive both on weekends with the windows down and no music, or daily commute (and they don’t drone so I can enjoy my tunes on the commute as well). Totally satisfied with Roush and American Muscle, thank you.

I am really enjoying the new Exhaust set up. I have an H-pipe(roush) installed with these mufflers. I wanted to keep the same brand all the way through. They are extremely loud on a cold start! Especially if you’re in any type of closed space ( Parking garage, close proximity walls etc).

However with that being said once they get a bit of heat/engine warms. (About 30 seconds to a minute). They quickly quiet down to a beautiful exhaust note. I talking deep, base, rumble, purring. Exactly how you think an American V8 muscle car should sound.

If You keep it under 3 grand (RPM) when driving, more like 2800rpm. You can keep it quiet, if you want! Which is great. Especially if it’s late or you just don’t want everyone to know your coming. NOW, Holy smokes if you open it up talk about jaw dropping thunder! It is loud! Paired with an H-pipe and The matching cold air intake! Very noticeable gains in every department.

You will not be disappointed. If I only get one complaint it would be, Not having an upgradable active exhaust option. One that is not over priced. It’s only a small motor, baffles and a switch. Come on.

My Final Opinion Is, it’s awesome! If you Desire quiet there are other options out there.

First, i paid for shipping to come sooner they came 3 days after the expected delivery date. that was disappointing but I was reimbursed for that and it was an easy process, thank you AM on that. The pypes look great, and sound great, it’s a deep undertone which I was looking for, if you are looking for a super annoying loud sound these aren’t for you.

The passenger side pype did come dented, I had to hammer the dent out in order to get it to fit with the mid, not a big deal to me but just putting it in for an honest review. It’s loudest of course when you want it to be based on how you drive, but it’s quiet enough to not be overzealous and I love it.

I coupled this with a cold air intake and together I got 9hp extra out of the tune. Installation, I’m a helicopter mechanic working helicopters are easier for me because I do it often, but this took me about 2 1/2hrs.

most of the time spent was taking the stock off, and then getting the alignment for the pypes, which I still haven’t completely got the alignment I want. But like I said I don’t work on cars normally, so it would probably be a lot faster for someone else lol.

Use the dish soap to help with the hangers. I would deff recommend the product though, it’s great and I love having the option to drive with a moderate or a loud sound depending on how I feel.

First things first these pipes sound great once broken in. doesn’t take long. As always American Muscle delivers the best customer service anyone could ask for. Now for the Installation. The plug is correct, but you need to do a little playing to get these in place.

Doesn’t hurt to have some mechanical knowledge and in my case a TORCH. Had to do some pipe bending to get everything lined up. Not a lot, but without the torch I could not have done it. Both pipes needed some extra bend at the joint prior to the big pipe.

If not they would hit the outside of the bumper, not good. With that said. It took me about 2. 5 hours including the extra bending. Again this was very minor. I would consider this to be a good product and an honest description.

I have never had an actual plug-and-play for anything. Everything needs a tweek or two.

Installation is better done on lift. Remove the stock mufflers and the two bracket hangers. Loosen the pipe clamp to the tail pipe. Slide the muffler out. When installing these mufflers on my Shelby,it was necessary to loosen the clamp on the h-pipe to be able to center the exhaust tips out the lower trim panel.

It is my opinion that the L brackets on the muffler could be about 3/4 inch shorter in order to center the tips better. Be sure to watch the video install from American Muscle first! Sounds Great on my Shelby.

Much better exhaust tone than the originals.

Put this on my 2019 GT PP2 with a H-Pipe and active exhaust. The fitment is perfect and the build quality is excellent. I knew going into this that there would be drone because Magnaflow is known for the deep tones with their exhaust systems and paired with a H-Pipe.

It is a VERY deep growl especially with this nortiously raspy coyotes. I wish I could give 4. 5 stars because my biggest gripe is that you have to purchase the active exhaust valves separately which makes this one of he more expensive options.

As far as the active exhaust modes there really isn’t 4 options anymore for me. Quite mode is still pretty significant especially on a cold start. All the other modes really just sound the same from there with really small variations in the sound.

That is okay for me because I really only use quite and track. Overall I really enjoy the sound and the deep booming growls with rev matching and down shifting. It has a great old school low rpm grumble and gets extremely aggresive in the higher rpms.

Everyone seems to say to is quiet, not sure what they are talking about. It gives a nice tone, it is a big difference from stock. On gas it is loud which does add more interior noise. When just cruising the interior quiets up, however the muffler is still singing nicely.

It is an expensive purchase but I think it was worth it as the build quality is there. I bought and would suggest to purchase the new hangers. I have zero exhaust rattle because of the new hangers in my opinion.

Definitely better then stock. Way louder. At idle the car is a lot deeper. Medium acceleration is deeper with more growl, and heavy acceleration you get a race car type sound, not so much a classic muscle car sound.

It’s not a bad thing, sounds good. I have a ford performance cut and clamp x pipe, and I do think a H pipe would sound better and give it a even deeper tone over the x pipe. Some reviews said it sounds “farty” and i dont think it does, but that could be because i have the x pipe.

Down shifting it pops a lot more. Didnt notice any performance gains. I rarely work on cars and my tools are terrible and it took me about 2 hours. Hardest part is getting the old mufflers out of the hangers.

And someone with small arms will be handy. Loosen the clamp at the mid pipe and it helps give you more room to wiggle the muffler out. Fit pretty good. Had to tighten clamp then push pipes into place then repeat until I got them it.

No leaks. Using ramps helped alot.

Nice aggressive sound, sort of a snarl/growl. It’s fairly loud, but I don’t think it’s obnoxious. The Sport model is listed as medium loud and the Touring model as loud, but the Touring are actually the quieter of the two.

Local shop install with no fit & finish issues that I’m aware of. Price is reasonable compared to the other major name brands. I really don’t think there’s much of a performance gain to be had on anything after the stock manifolds and cats, but I also installed Ford Performance Power Pack 2 and they seem to compliment each other.

I had to get this exhaust due to moving purposes. I had a Steeda H pipe & C&L muffler delete. It was too loud and I was moving to an apartment. I bought this new setup so i can quiet the car down. I thought it’d sound at least a little aggressive but no lol.

The stock exhaust from factory is louder than this. I’m not complaining because i don’t mind the quietness. Also you can’t hear it in your car at all. *NOTE* people will think you have an eco boost.

Switched from a very quiet and unknown to me (I’m the second owner and got the car from a dealership) variant of MBRP cat-back andI also wanted to changed the look of my early S550 and this exhaust is perfect imho.

It has no drone even at 75 mph with the 3. 73 rear end, you can definitely hear it but it’s not intrusive and you can still have a normal conversation. I installed this with the MP concepts rear valence and it gave me the look I wanted and that was similar to an 18-19 GT and I got exactly what I wanted.

The install wasn’t completely painless though as I had to cut my bumper. Once the bumper was taken care of the exhaust went on like any other cat- back for a 15-19 gt, only thing I had to do was bend the driver side exhaust hanger after it was installed to get it off the valence since it was touching just slightly.

I don’t know if that was from the fitment of the MP concepts valence or the offset of the quads but it wasn’t so far off you needed fabrication skills to put it on. All in all after some very slight bending this exhaust fit perfectly and looks amazing on my ‘15 GT and it sounds perfect to me.

It’s loud enough to get people’s attention almost like muffler delete but a notch down in volume, a burbly tone that is slightly different from an Atak, and no drone.

This exhaust sounds amazing. I have the 2016 performance package 1 premium. No drone on highway as 6 gear which I love. During regular driving she screams around 2k rpm and up. Sorry neighbors lol. I get comments about the look all the time.

The sound when you first fire it up will make you go back to the packaging, saying “did they send me the Sport by mistake??”. The burble at idle is quiet and not too motor-boatish like some systems, but it’s louder than I expected above about 4k RPMs – it absolutely screams, with a sort of GT350-esque metallic rasp.

It might not be for everyone – it’s a little less Mustang and a little more European sports car – but it’s just what I wanted and I don’t mind the extra volume. It’s definitely possible to drive it quietly if you need to.

In fact, you will likely get better fuel economy with this system because you can enjoy the V8 sound track without having to get on the throttle or stay in the low gears the way you have to with the stock system.

Install was very easy with a buddy, even though we did it with just the back tires up on ramps (plus stands for safety). Clearance was so low I could barely focus my eyes on the bolts when lying on my back lol.

Took about 2 hours due to much shimmying around and barely having enough clearance to take out the 1-piece stock exhaust. Speaking of which, that think is HEAVY! Happy to have it off my car. Last thing: the black tips look AWESOME on my black GT Premium with black accent pack.

I knew that 4″ was larger than the stock size, but in videos the kinda looked the same size as stock. They look significantly bigger in person, but they look great. They still aren’t QUITE centered in the valence, but look fine.

I’ll report back if I have much trouble fixing them.

First off, I started with a 8-10psi of boost through an Edelbrock 2650. Quickly ditched the converters as they are known to cause issues with boosted cars. I developed a rattle and switched to a Steeda H-pipe.

Then a rattle developed in my stock mufflers. Quad tip mufflers are kinda ridiculous in their prices. I wanted less restriction without a TON of sound, as I live in an HOA and really don’t want to upset the neighbors.

The Sport is definitely much louder on the cold start and WOT than stock mufflers, however at low rpm driving speed there isn’t any drone. The passenger side fit great. The driver’s side is going to need some adjustments at the muffler shop.

I adjusted the hanger to get the tips to line up, but the muffler still sits at an angle due to the curved pipe not quite lining up to the stock pipe. I’ll probably have them welded on as the clamps they come with still allow some movement, which could easily become a leak down the road.

I really hope the black chrome tips stay the way they are, as they look awesome out of the box. Sound clips comparisons on TikTok: gcomfx.

Ford Performance by Borla touring axle-back exhaust on 2019 Velocity Blue Mustang GT Convertible For Father’s day 2021 I replaced my Mustang’s resonator with an h-pipe, but I wasn’t getting the sound I wanted.

The h-pipe helped, but under heavy acceleration it was too raspy and just sorta loud. So for this father’s day I added the Ford Performance by Borla touring axle-back exhaust to the orchestra. I had them professionally installed for $225 at a local shop I got the quietest version of the 3 versions available and it actually made it a little bit quieter under heavy acceleration, a little bit louder overall and changed the tone to exactly what I wanted.

The exhaust tips look great too and don’t have sharp edges like the stock did so I won’t keep slicing my fingers when washing it, but of course the real reason I bought it is the beautiful symphony of sound it now makes that you can only appreciate driving (or for everyone but me riding in) it! I highly recommend this product with an h-pipe!.

Starting with packaging, it was packed very well. I had come across a few reviews across different exhaust options saying AM did not do a proper job packaging parts, but was perfect. The fit and finish was not quite as good as I would have expected from Ford Performance/Borla, but I was able to make it work.

The Left side had some trouble fitting onto the stock pipe so I moved onto the right side and it slipped on without a hitch. Circling back to the left side I made sure my cut was in the proper spot and filed down nice and smooth, but still wouldn’t fit.

Upon closer inspection it looked more ovular than round so I had to try and carefully bend out the sides that were pinched in. Hopefully it was a one off problem or possibly my stock pipe was swelled up a small amount where I had to attach it.

Otherwise, the sound when I started it up gave immediate validation for the extra effort during the install. Will say it has a loud cold start as you might expect, but after it warms up it has the perfect low rumble at idle that I was looking for.

When you get into the gas it wakes the car up with a great aggressive tone all the way to redline. The best part is that, as hard as it was for me to believe, is that it has less drone when cruising at any constant speed than the H-pipe with stock mufflers.

Overall I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to add some character and volume to their s550 without being obnoxious. Took a little over 2 hours with the the small fitment issue, and only jacked up the back of the car with plenty of space for the install.

After installing this downpipe and loading in the Bama X4 custom tune, the exhaust sounds more throaty and I can feel the engine pulling strong and consistent across the powerband. Especially, the turbo lag on first gear coming out of a stop seems to be less noticeable.

Love it. Here comes to rub and some: (1). Took all day to install due to not being able to get the old bolts off the stock downpipe. (2). It is incomplete feeling to know that I still have the stock 2.

25″ connector between this 3″ downpipe and the MBRP Race 3″ exhaust system. Neither Mishimoto nor MBRP sales an 3″ adaptor that will connect these two systems together. This issue is in the no-man land and no one (Mishimoto or MBRP) wants to address it.

3. The check engine light came on 2 days later. It sucks that I will have to clear it with the the tuner every time it shows up. Thought about adding the O2 sensor spacer but that would only making the issue rather than fixing it.

After all this, I still recommend this downpipe who don’t minds the troubles I mentioned above.

Ended up taking me about 4 hours to install by myself, I’ve never done a downpipe or even watched a video. I recommend a second pair of hands when seating the new downpipe to the turbo because the downpipe weight off sets it on the turbo if not holding it from the bottom.

I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend getting a map gas torch and having a 22mm wrench for the O2 sensors. Luckily I do hvac and had one handy but without a torch I doubt I would’ve gotten the o2 sensors off the old downpipe.

Also recommend anti-seize when putting the sensors on new downpipe. Other than seating new downpipe on turbo and getting O2 sensors off it was a very easy install. My car sounds SOOOOO much better and I definitely get allot of turbo noise now!.

Very satisfied with the quality of the down pipe. It’s well built and looks pretty. Significant power gains with CAI, this, and a bama tune. CEL does pop on after about a week even with the catted version.

Need to order O2 sensor spacers to see if that will solve the problem. Sounds very good as well paired with the MBRP cat back. The car feels much more alive.

So I had this downpipe installed professionally at a shop and am currently running it in combination with a Roush quad-tip aftermarket catback system and a cold air intake. The Roush system was already louder than stock and this did indeed make it louder though still not obnoxious, imo, which I’m thankful for.

I’ve been running this for about a month with a 93 octane Unleashed tune. I haven’t had the car dyno’d yet so I haven’t been able to benchmark yet but I definitely feel the torque difference in the low end.

Hopefully will be able to so more hard pulls when the weather gets better. One word of wisdom: Even with the catted version and loading atune, my CEL came on with a P0420 code. You’ll want to get that fixed asap because it will likely also affect your mileage.

I remedied this by installing an $10 spacer in the downstream O2 sensor and the car has been running great since and still street legal for emissions in GA.

10/10 would recommend. Yes, it is a little more expensive than the other downpipes, but you get what you pay for. This Mishimoto downpipe not only improves exhaust flow, it makes a noticeable audio difference with the Ford Performance turbo.

Definitely puts down higher horsepower/torque numbers as well.

Like others searching for mufflers, I spent several hours listening to exhaust sound clips. My main focus was trying to find mufflers that would not be extremely loud. I was trying to decide between the ford sport, ford touring, or kooks axle back.

The kooks axle back to me is slightly louder than stock. (exhaust sound is so subjective) It is a lot deeper at start up than stock. The kooks mufflers will growl more if you get the rpm(s) up. (still not loud).

At cruise speeds they get quiet as stock. Minimal to no drone. On my vehicle everything is stock except for the mufflers, so I’m sure you can make the mufflers louder if needed. Install took about 45 minutes at the muffler shop.

A little pricey for exhaust I’d say that is just a slightly louder than stock, but id rather have them a little too quiet rather than too loud. Overall, I’m satisfied and I like the deep/growl sound.

The mufflers are deeper in person than the sound clips. Kooks mufflers keeps the car sounding nice. My 5. 0 sounds a lot meaner now. GROWWWWLLLLL.

This system from Kooks is a system with Race 3 inch straight through Turbo style mufflers. This Axle back once installed is loud, and is really made for the track. I lost my throttle response, the O2 sensors are not reading correctly thus backing out timing.

This system is for turbo, or supercharged cars. Car needs to be custom tuned. May put a Magnaflow Tru-X Resonator in place of the factory one. Power is not there with this system. To prove it I get 20 miles per gal.

in the city, and now I get 26. How do you explain that? Less timing, Less Fuel. I drive the same way to work, and the same speed. Do not recommend for N/A 5. 0 mustangs. 2018 GT with 3. 15 gears.

I am the person who does hours of research, watches tons of youtube videos and looks at tons of reviews. I also talked to the American Muscle live chat employees to help me as well. I want it all, i want no drone and good sound, less weight and good looking products.

I was going to get either Borla or Corsa because I heard they have no drone and that is why they have the price point that they do. however a live chat employee told me that the Kooks brand would give me the same sound and no drone for a fraction of the price.

I decided to trust his advice and I am certainly glad that I did it should definitely sound like this from the factory. I’m very happy with the quality,the finish, the look and the sound that this system makes.

Of course there is sound when you press the gas but driving on the highway is quiet. I would buy again.
