20 Best Evaporative Cooler For Bedroom (2023 Updated)

I’m a big fan (no pun intended) of evaporative coolers. I have whole house evaporative coolers on my Nevada and California homes. They work well in “dry” climates, and can reduce air temperatures by 30℉ when outdoor temps are high and humidity low.

In my career I have extensive experience in ventilation and air quality measurements. I have used that perspective to evaluate the Hessaire unit. This Hessaire portable unit is nicely made from rust resistant plastic, uses quality evaporator media, and can be plumbed, connected to a hose, or filled by hand through a filler port.

The unit can be operated in fan only mode, or as a cooler with 3 fan settings in both modes. Unpacking and setup was easy. I purchased the unit to use in my barn, but recently have used it to provide a cool spot for my Border Collie when the temps climb above 100℉.

I have it set up on the shady side of the house, connected to a garden hose. Here’s typical performance in late afternoon (high fan speed). Air temp (in shaded porch): 99. 2℉ RH 33. 6% Cooled Air temperature (at outlet) 78℉ Based on Temperature and Humidity, (psychrometric curve), the cooler is attaining near max potential cooling.

This is my first experience trying to use a cooler outdoors. My coolers work well on my homes because the space is enclosed, and the positive pressure created by the cooler keeps warm air from entering the home.

The amount of fresh outside air brought into the house is a bonus. But this cooler is used outdoors in an “non-contained” space and 2 things become immediately evident: 1) The cooling effect diminishes rapidly; what feels cool directly in front of the fan (up close), feels just like a normal fan a small disatnce away (the dog seems happy enough with the just a breeze).

2) It’s pointless to try and cool a large open area. The cooling effect would be more effective if it was contained somewhat. For the dog I’ll probably aim the cooler into his shaded, partially contained doghouse.

Incredible evaporative cooler. I use it right now in the winter as a humidifier and for the white noise to fall asleep. It has a soothing trickling sound. Unfortunately I’ve read from some people the pumps tend to go out on these.

I’ve not had an issue yet but I try to prevent it from running dry. Mold and bacterial buildup can be an issue if you don’t drain it and let it dry out occasionally. It’s not too easily accessible to clean the inside unless you disassemble it.

Also, it does tend to go thorough water quickly but these are minor things. If you live in a humid climate summer, I wouldn’t count on this to cool you off although it does blow cool humid air. It’s better for dry climates.

I’m thinking of buying another, I highly recommend it if you live in a dry climate.

Love BAF products and own many. BUT I made an assumption here – BAF is known for its superior engineering that leads to exceptionally quiet fans. THIS IS NOT Close to Quiet. A near silent hum of a motor is about 45 decibels.

This is 75- I missed this in the description. You can not talk to someone if they are near this fan. It also has a “turbo fan” sound (TWO) that is really cool as a workshop sound but the high speed whirls are annoying for a patio.

The quality is great- the sound is a disappointment. Please know the product works as described- it’s just loud.

My company is based in southern New Jersey. We have a 40×70 pole barn and the Cool Space 400 does an amazing job and cutting the heat. We messed up the first week by not reading the directions (who does right?!) about adding the algae tabs to the bladder of water, but then read the directions and low and behold in the well written packet the fan came with was info on the proper care and maintenance.

Very well put together unit. Came in on time. Great customer service. Great service after the sale. Extremely happy customer.

This portable combination fan and cooler is a great addition to our home. For those that live in drier climates, the optional evaporative cooling feature allows you to direct cool air directly into an area without having to cool the entire home.

The unit is attractive and a nice size. It can be set to 3 different speeds, with and without evaporative cooling. The water reservoir is large enough that it doesn’t run out too quickly. There are different modes, including speed changes, timer, and “swing”, which blows the air in a random pattern.

It’s pretty quiet, too. Why didn’t we give it a 5? While minor, there were a few things that we think could be improved. Learning the different settings is a bit of a challenge, and isn’t entirely intuitive.

Fortunately, there is a guide that you can work through to understand what the different settings do. Secondly, to add water to the reservoir, there isn’t a door that you can flip open and pour water in.

You need to pull the drawer partially open, and pour water in that way. This is minor, but it would be better with the access door. Also, you need to be careful with a full reservoir when rolling the unit around as it can slosh water.

Overall, we think it’s a good value and allows you to spot cool and area, and the timer feature is handy (it can be set in 1/2 hour increments up to 7. 5 hours) for bedtime until the room cools down at night.

The unit is serviceable and looks like it will serve us well! We’ll come back and do another review in a year to let you know if our initial impressions hold up.

I received a sample product. All opinions are honest and my own. As a mom that sometimes wakes up hot, I love that I am able to use the remote control to turn on this portable cooling fan for quick relief.

The white noise also helps me to fall asleep. Luckily, it doesn’t wake my husband up either. Let me share more details. This was easy for me to set up. I timed how long it took to unbox, read the manual, and get going.

I should disclose that I overthink everything and am careful when I read instructions, but it still only took me 14 minutes and 39 seconds to unbox, read, and get started! I feel like the NewAir team created a user friendly experience as it was simple to get started.

People buying evaporative coolers need to understand they are NOT NOT NOT ever going to replace an air conditioner. However, they do help. Just temper your expectations. The coolest air is right after you put ice in it.

As the ice melts, it gets less and less cool. I like this model as it is simple to use, and the cooling function has a warning beep and then it shuts itself off when the water is too low. This prevents the pump from burning out.

It’s an important function. You have to add water to the tank in the bottom which is a drawer. Not real convenient, but it is what it is. The maximum fill level for the water is not easy to see. I like the product well enough that after two years I bought a second one for additional cooling in a larger space.

I also purchased separately additional small Blue Ice packs. Two come with the unit, but I like to put two at a time in the water tank for extra coolness, and if it’s really hot I change them out frequently.

I also keep a gallon jug of water in the refrigerator so that I am putting chilled water into the unit, again for maximum cooling. Be sure to rinse out the water tank at the end of the season. I also recommend cleaning the pump out at the end of the season.

This little device is only designed to cool the air in your immediate vicinity, about a 3 ft radius, although it feels the coldest if you’re directly in front of it. If you are looking for something that will cool down an entire room, this is not what you want.

I am very happy with mine. Using the dial/control panel on top, you can adjust the fan speed, color and brightness of the light (or turn it off entirely), change from Celsius to Fahrenheit, and set it to change color when the reservoir is empty.

It is not noisy although adjusting the fan speed will make the fan sound more, or less audible. It cools the air down by at least 10 degrees directly in front of it. The farther it is from you the less cooling you will feel.

I don’t like cold air blowing directly on me for an extended period of time so I set mine about 2 feet away from me and elevate it a bit. This is also a small device; a little cube about 6. 5” wide and 6.

5” high. It fits nicely on a desktop, nightstand, end table, or shelf. I have not experienced any leakage issues. This device also has an inner reservoir in addition to the one on the outside, similar to a Keurig.

I suspect some of the leakage issues arise from continuous filling of the tank, which can oversaturate the inner reservoir and lead to leaks. Only refill the tank when it’s totally out of water, in both the outer tank and the inner reservoir.

You can set the device to change color to let you know this. Even when the outer tank is empty, the device will continue to cool for about 2-3 hours, drawing on the water inside to do this. So wait until the machine lets you know it’s totally empty before refilling.

Tipping it to the side or not keeping it on a totally flat surface may also cause leaks. This can also function as a small fan without any water in it. The one thing I have noticed is that it doesn’t work well as a humidifier so if you are buying it just for that you may want to look elsewhere.

The air it creates is cold, and cold air doesn’t hold as much moisture as warmer air. I have a little hygrometer that came with my humidifier and when I set it in front of the device to measure humidity, there was absolutely no change.

So if you want more humidity in addition to cooler air, either purchase a different device or use this in conjunction with a humidifier. That said, you don’t want the air to be TOO humid because that will decrease the device’s ability to cool, similar to a “swamp cooler.

This is a lifesaver for someone who isn’t used to humid hot climates. I put it by my desk during the day and move it to my bedstand in the evenings. When you fill it up and keep it on the low to medium setting, it lasts a surprisingly long time.

It’s pretty quiet too. It takes a little finagling to figure out how to fill it but then you’ll hit a groove. The only mark is that the little plastic positioning rows in the front can easily get disconnected so I have one row that’s off its track and I can’t figure out how to fix it.

Doesn’t impact the efficiency though! I also wish it had a timer option and a way to adjust the brightness of the power/speed button. :).

just to clarify – this is a mini-evap cooler, aka swamp cooler. Works great in dry climates, not so great in more humid ones, and probably ineffective in very humid parts of the country. I have not tried to measure temp difference w/thermometer since the cooling effect is same as “wind chill” – cooling affect against human skin and a thermometer simply doesn’t measure this.

With fan on high, perceived cooling is very noticable. Regarding other comments re: poor fan output. fan has 4 speeds, maybe user(s) didn’t get up to the high speed level. ? I have mine on a table 5-6 ft away from my Fam room couch and moist cooling breeze is VERY noticeable and effective.

I have been able to increase house A/C 77-79degrees during plopped down watching TV hours, or using laptop/ipad for extended periods. I used to have to set it at 74-75. Have saved quite a bit on electric bill.

Portability isn’t a big deal for my use, so wish it had a larger H2O tank. Need to refill every 3hrs or so, but this would be dictated by fan speed and environment humidity. I always run my fan on high and humidity is typically in low teens.

Only thing keeping me from buying several units (bedroom, office, kitchen) is price. $80-99 is a little steep.

This cooler is much better then the portacool we originally bought we have a 1500sq ft ware house but a portion of it is office space and that part is cooled. So we bought the 1100 sq ft portacool didn’t do ANYTHING to our space but make it seem hotter and humid.

We have 20ft ceilings so I’m guessing it counts as double the sq footage? So we found this. This Unit was double the size and the fan is 10 times bigger then the portacools and even when we just have the fan running without the pump it makes a bigger difference.

When we received it they package the wheels and parts in a box, inside the unit. It was tightly jammed in between the pump and side wall. When we got it all set up and turned the pump on Nothing happened! My husband being handy was able to figure out that the pump had come disconnect from its line somewhere and fixed it.

But only after I went and bought a pond pump to replace it with cause I needed the unit that day, opened it all up and couldn’t return it. If my husband wouldn’t have been able to help me I would have had to have returned it for a new one.

Not sure if it came undone during shipping or while I was trying to jam the box out of the tight space they have it in. Over all it works great just hoping if that same thing happens to anyone else this helps them fix it.

At first I was wondering what would happen if I fell asleep as the tank capacity is only 800 ml? However, if the water is consumed, the fan continues to run. Fantastic! For greater fresness, next to the cooler I put a table fan.

As I do with the coffee maker, from the beginning use filtered water to prevent the minerals contained in the water directly from the pipe from being deposited in the unit; with the difference that for the cooler I use the filtered water from the shower.

I live in Las Vegas where the summers are brutally hot and the air conditioning runs 24/7. I purchased this product to use outdoors in the late evenings while trying to catch a breathe of fresh air. Many times our overnight lows are 80 degrees.

Unlike a misting system that can leave you damp, this product produces dry cooling relief. I also move the unit indoors to help cool my kitchen while preparing evening meals. Previous to owning this cooler, I would turn up the total house air conditioner to achieve some degree of comfort.

Now, I direct the unit toward the range area and cook in comfort. At mealtime, the unit is facing the dining table. I purchased my unit two years ago and love it. I recently purchased two more units for two of my favorite relatives who live in California.

They live in the country in older homes without air conditioning. Due to global warming, their summer days become uncomfortable. thank God the nights cool down. I know they will appreciate these coolers come summer especially when it comes time to cook.

I bought one for my husband for fathers Day. We live in las Vegas and have a very small terrace in front of our home. My husband enjoys sitting outside under our awning on even the hottest days, and I thought this would be the perfect gift to keep him a bit cooler.

I was really disappointed as it does not cool at all. It may be great for indoor use, but certainly ineffective in the manner it was advertised for outdoor use.

It is used between the living & dining room area. It was very easy to assemble. Came in good time after ordering. It has 3 speeds which is great & we especially like the feature that it oscillates. It has wheels which makes it easy to move to other rooms.

The height is also great because it isn’t too close to the floor & makes the air move around the room better. Oh & the best feature is it comes with a remote so you can choose any setting from right on your couch.

bought 2 of these, thought the first one was good, the second one was built perfect. so I was able to perfect the first fan as well. I moved the silver bar back thats located behind the filter on top.

cause it wasn’t in the perfect spot, the filter was crushed cause there wasn’t enough room for the filters to slide in the ends. then I had to move the water pipe back so it would wet the back of the filter, water was spitting out the front and the back wasn’t getting wet.

got lucky on the second one. when its built perfect, its perfect. I will be cutting a hole in the front so I can dump ice without having to remove the filters.

My 2,000 square foot insulated shop has zero windows or any form of ventilation besides the shop door itself. I could have gone with the Portacool 220 BUT I knew I wanted that nice large fan for times when it was too humid to run in conjunction with the water pump.

This thing is amazing! It makes my shop unbelievably comfortable to be in and was significantly cheaper than an actual HVAC installation. On a hot/dry day of 95 degrees @ 40% humidity, this bad boy cranks out 60-65 degree air at 25 miles per hour.

Even on a more humid day (60%), the fan without any water cooling is unbelievably nice. I would definitely buy again. I used to avoid my shop all summer due to it hitting 100 degrees inside. Now I live in it and Im far more productive! Thanks Portacool!.

Portacool has been around for a very long time. We have some at work that are over 20 years old and still work great. We have a 1000 sq ft garage and this Jetstream 250 is overkill for that amount of space, so we got it.

We also have a Jetstream 240 that does the job well too, but no one is going to complain with the extra cooling power of the 250. Portacool is more expensive, but with that you’re going to get an industrial quality evaporative cooler.

It’s going to have a large ‘tank’ capacity, and do the job it’s meant to for a very long time. Yes, these do need to be maintained. The Jetstream is going to be right for you if you have an open garage in a dry climate.

Evaporative coolers do not work in a humid environment.

I purchased this fan for a large collision repair shop. I was under the impression that it would drop the temperature about 10 degrees or so. I’ve been disappointed to find out that it dropped our temp about 4-5 degrees at best.

If I had known that up front I would have spent my money in other areas that I think would have helped a little better. The fan is great if your standing in front of it but that’s about all it seems to do.

I know it’s extremely hot outside right now, especially here on the gulf coast. If you guys have some ideas about how I can better results out of it I would be very appreciative. Thank you, Ray Parrish.

My wife purchased this product last summer. We had built a new outdoor deck but couldn’t use it much during summer hot sunny days. We tried regular fans and mist fans. Fans didn’t cool. Mist fans weren’t effective either, and made every thing wet and also messed up hair.

So I was a bit skeptical at first when I learnt that you have to use water for cooling. I had heard of swamp coolers before but in a somewhat negative light. I have to admit that I am surprised at how effective this product can be outdoor and indoor.

And it doesn’t consume much electricity. The product looks and feels sturdy as you’d expect from the Honeywell brand. All in all, a good buy.

The cooler was used in a southwestern home. The fan is a small high speed type. The consequences are that it has to spin at high speeds to move a significant amount of air. The cooler appears to be made from lower quality materials than my 15 year old convair machines.

Works well for the hot Tx heat. Used this under my covered patio. I did need to add ice to the water and the top compartment to keep the blown air cool enough. Another star would have been given to this product if the front air delivery section was bigger and not just at the top.

Returned this for the step up model with a large circle air vent at the front.

I purchased the Port-a-Cool Cyclone 2000 to cool a 3 car garage on the coast in Texas. After several attempts of trying to get the machine to produce cool air and not just act as a supper powered fan, I called the Port-a-Cool Support Hotline (Port-A-Cool also located on the East side of Texas).

I reached a very nice women and explained to her the reason for buying this product and why I had chosen the unit that I ended up buying, based on the square footage being cooled. After going over everything that I had done to get the unit working efficiently, the person I spoke with thought that I might be running to much water over the pads “the less the better if it is extremely humid” and went on to say that it took a little breaking in period.

I was told to give it another try and if there where anymore issues, Please Call Back. After several more attempts and running the water flow at different amounts for extended periods of time at no avail, (the unit was still producing nothing but hot air).

I made another call to the Hotline. Call two was made and their finial solution, it is to humid in my area for the machine to handle it and if I’m not satisfied return it. There other thought buy a bigger unit.

Not the answer I was looking for. So back it goes from whence it came, and I still have a hot humid garage work space. With the company being located on the LA border where hot and humid is a way of life for Gulf residents, this certainly was not the results I expected from a Port-A-Cool product nor was it the answer that I expected from the company.

It is not an air conditioner so don’t assume it will be one and you will like it. It does provide cool air that you can direct to blow on you and it keeps you cool. You have to have it in an open area or if in a garage the door needs to be open some to circulate the air.

If you don’t have fresh air it turns the area into a moist sauna with all the water in the cooling air. In 100 degree temps we measured 10 degrees cooler in a garage with the door open about a foot. Still hot but the air that blows on you feels about 30 degrees cooler like they advertise so very comfortable to work if you don’t mind the noise it makes which is just about the same as a large fan.

It used the water in the tank fast 4-5 hours so plan on having the hose connected for anything longer. I would buy a larger model if I had a larger space. This one works for me for what I need it for.

When it’s not 100 degrees this thing is really great, I use it all the time. Quality was a little less then expected and mine had a small leak that I fixed. Also this thing does drip from the water fall so plan on if being on concrete outdoors, not an indoor use type of unit.

Arrived with the louvers not having been installed properly and so ther was no ability to direct the airflow. My handyman fixed them in about 30 minutes. We are having 100 degree weather and he is using it in a large warehouse to cool the immediate area he is working in, as he does vehicle repairs for me.

It is proving extremely helpful and he is very happy I bought it for his benefit. Overall, very happy with it and I LOVE that’s it’s made in USA.

Honestly this product is amazing for what I needed it for. There’s a room in the upstairs that has weak AC pressure so it gets scorching hot up there especially in the summer mind you this is Florida! I was looking for an alternative to buying a portable AC unit sense it’s my office but can also be used for a plant nursery, garage, attic etc.

Anyway, it kept the room cool and if the air felt too dry , it comes with a humidifier/evaporator built-in. Also there are other features like fan speed and wind/fan patterns. for example you can have the fan speed all the way up but then switch to the wind pattern to make it sound like air is blowing through the trees or a windy day.

Amazing! The only thing I would say is it didn’t last as long though! Now the customer service is fantastic!! When I realized that my machine stopped working and found out who to contact. I reached out to customer service on there Facebook page and was told to call.

Made the call, gave the information on the issues and they are sending a replacement! Process was fast and easy! I appreciate Frigidaire for an overall great product and there amazing customer service!! I would recommend this product to everyone!.

My product came with a non-working remote and no ice packs. Otherwise the machine works decently well as an evap cooler if you make sure to have a fresh air source. Keep in mind it really only cools you if it is blowing directly on you.

It will not cool down an entire room but it will make the room much more humid, even with a fresh air source. The blower is very loud on all settings except the lowest and then it hardly moves any air.

It makes some strange noises as well not related to the evap cooling process so I question its quality. The design is good in that it is easy to move around and fill up with water. It has not leaked at all and the pump is of a solid design.

I would be surprised if the unit holds up for more than a year with heavy use given some of the QC issues mentioned.

I had purchased this unit to replace my ac. Amazed at how well this unit works. It can blow very strong and it can be very quite if you need it to. It has different mode you can use for different rooms.

Water tank is perfect to put some ice packs in case colder air is needed. Love how easy is to clean and if anything goes wrong with the pad, it is just a replacement away. Though i have to say, it really helps my house to stay cool.

I would recomend this unit.

An Evaporative Air Cooler Is A Humidifier – Swamp Cooler, which uses water directly. In theory, the cooler the water, the cooler the air passing through the water barrier, and in this case a wetting pad serves as the water barrier.

So know what you are purchasing and understand it’s function is to raise the humidity and prevent dry air, but also to offer cooler moist air. The most ideal place to use one of these coolers is in dry air desert areas in Central and Western USA.

So if you already live in a high humidity area, like the South-East Region, then the cooler feature only works if you can get the water temperature lower than room temperature, and the room is less than 150 Sq.

Ft. , and you don’t mind sitting in the wind stream. So to be honest, if you can install a cheap window AC unit instead, then you will be better off doing so. Otherwise, you can try this air cooler, but don’t expect any cooling miracles.

Another place this device can be used is in a greenhouse, just FYI. — So far I have been able to get some wonderful cool air out of this unit, but I cheated at first time startup by throwing a tray of ice cubes in the bottom water reservoir, and placing a blue-ice pack in the upper reservoir.

YaaaHooo, my ears got cold after 30 minutes, lol. The next trick is keeping a schedule and constantly circulating the actual ice packs that came with it. It’s my new experimental toy! LOL.

Just purchased this unit, with all the reviews gave it a tried. It works as described, but don’t expect it to be a AC unit. If the weather is Hot and Humid, well it definitely not gonna cool you much.

Yeah if the weather is warm or cool outside, definitely going to feel cold breezes. I ended putting a great amount of ice cube into the water compartment with little amount of water then, it definitely works a bit better.

Unfortunately of course the ice melts, and the cool breeze only last a hour or so. If you want to continue then obviously need to place more ice cube. So, gave it a 3 star only because it works just the same as a simple fan just more effort to maintain the cool breeze.

And of course in the long run the water compartment will need cleaning. so if you expect extreme cool breeze, consider a nice fan at a lower price or invest into a nice reasonable AC unit. However I changed.

Great unit, blows a lot of cool/moist air. Only negative I found was the design of the water pump. It is held to a bracket by a plastic hose inlet. When you roll the unit over a rough surface the pump inlet is liable to crack causing the pump to cavitate and not be able to pick up water.

A new pump of the same design was quickly sent to me under warranty. I avoided future breakage by simply securing the pump body to the bracket with zip ties instead of letting it hang by the plastic inlet tube.

Perfect size for my patio. Variable speed fan allows me to set the airflow just as I like it. I like the automatic sweep. Spreads out the air more evenly. Big cap on the bottom allows for easy draining for the winter.

I bought the fitted cover which will keep out the West Texas dirt over the winter and spring. All in all, a great little cooler.

If it doesn’t blow strong, fresh air check the filter area. Ours was not put together properly but once we realized and fixed the issue it was very nice. We live in area where temperatures get above 100 F and enjoyed the outdoors all summer.

Amazing product! The cooling effect works well. It takes only 2-3 minutes to lower the temperature by 3 degrees Celcius. The water compartment can last quite a few hours before needing a refill, which is amazing so I don’t have to keep refilling the water.

However, it is to be noted that it only cools the air right in front of the air cooler, which is quite a small area. Therefore it only works well when you are working at a table and the cooler is directed right at you.

It is great that the airflow(fan) has so many different speeds, and you can adjust it easily to your liking. I do live in quite a humid environment, the humidity here is about 50% average and can go up to 70%.

It does say that it will not work if the humidity is high, so I have yet to test it out when the humidity levels are high. Overall good product!.

I love this Evapolar ev-3000!!! My bedroom vent does not work very well & my room is very warm. I purchased this product & I have it placed next to my bed on a nightstand. It definitely does the job.

I was concerned after I read the reviews but I’m impressed. I can’t get the Wi-Fi portion of it to work so I gave up but the unit definitely keeps me cool. It’s a bit pricey but I would purchase it again.

I am in the Dfw area in Texas & I have not had any issues with this cooling me off. It won’t cool off the room because it’s a personal swamp cooler.

I don’t know why this gets a bad rap. I just followed the instructions and then already had some ice chilled water bottles I dumped in and just installed the app on to my phone and it just needed to update the firmware a few times because of it being in its box on a shelf and BAM!! I’m in business and i love the LED color schemes and patterns.

I’m buying another! Oh and by the way if you are tech savvy like I am, I recommend you buy at least 2 of the high powered solar batteries that are used for cell phones,etc. because that will power it also!!!!!.

Pros: Cools very well: As long as there is fresh low moisture air and can exhaust the humid air, this cooler will cool one or two rooms easy. I had had no issues even on 100+ F days. Reasonably good assortment of features: Can turn pump on independently of the fan.

Swing feature is nice. Timer is good but could be better Coasters: The lock is nice and they roll nicely. Fan speeds: Multiple fan speeds Visual analog water level indicator Cons: Timer: Shuts off the whole unit.

Wish there was a way to just turn off the pump after some time. Smell: You need to cycle (and subsequently throw away the water) for at least an hour or two before the smell goes away. Wish this was explained more clearly.

You also need to clean the water tank every 6 weeks or so, otherwise the smell becomes very strong again. Plastic attachments & general construction: The way the swing motor is attached to the louver does not lend itself to transportation.

I received the unit without the swing working. On looking more carefully, I realized that the plastic knob had fallen off, so the swing motor was no longer attached to the louver. Fixing it was easy, but time consuming (had to remove the fan and other bits and pieces before i could access and fix the issue).

The back is also incredibly difficult to open (at least on my unit). This is a problem because the coasters were inside the cooler. Additionally, only way to access the water tank for cleaning is to pop the back.

Since the water pipe is attached to the top of the back to a plastic water dispenser, it is inevitable that something will break. Water meter: It can sometimes get stuck when filling water, which is a problem that can lead to overflow and spillage.

You should tap it just to make sure it isn’t stuck. I also use a flash light to visually check the water, just in case. Water dripping noise could have been reduced.

I’d really put this at 4. 5 stars. I use this in my one-car garage workshop in the San Fernando Valley, and outside when I’m working on the back patio. It’s very effective under the right conditions, especially if it’s pointing directly at you.

It makes working in the uninsulated garage more than bearable in the dead of summer, when temperatures can easily reach the triple digits. Having the option to run the water pump separately from the fan is nice.

The only real issue I’ve had is that the water level indicator on the front panel can stick sometimes. I put a bit of light oil in between where the blue indicator rubs against the body. Recommended.

First of all, I love this unit even though it isn’t what I need or expected. I have had “portable” evaporative coolers, and this ain’t one of them. The thing weighs in at 250lbs when ready to go and although this is a window unit and not a roof mounted unit, there is nothing “portable” about it.

– This unit requires a waterline for installation. Portable units can use garden hoses or be filled manually. – This unit has an overflow out the bottom of the unit and cannot be set directly on the ground once installed.

– This unit must be mounted directly to the house with the provided hooks and chains or a stand must be built. This unit was to take the place of our central A/C, which cannot be used due to a house fire.

We cannot use the unit because we were recently exposed to COVID-19 and are in 14 day quarantine so plumbers and other handymen are not accessible as are the resources such as lumber and plumbing supplies.

We are in a house with temperatures exceeding 85 degrees in the day with hotter 100 degree days to come. In my opinion, evaporative coolers are better for health, the environment, and the pocketbook.

I have used portable evaporative units and this isn’t one of them. In the end, this unit will be permanently installed at our cabin, but in the short term, the unit is worthless and should have had better representation of what it is.

I hope that this review has provided a better representation of this sturdy non-portable window mounted product.

Works great. Easy install either through wall or window. This replaced a Master Cool low profile. About 75% less maintenance. Get a purge pump and a thermostat to make it work better. With the GP120 it has all inclusive.

But you have to cut wires.

Very effective for entire house when installed in proper location of house (we have a good flow-through location for the window mount through the main hallway to the bedrooms). Location of our home is the high desert area of southern CA, so the dry environment helps its effectiveness.

Key tip: A/C requires a generally sealed environment to be effective, Evap Coolers require escape paths for the air pumped into the location. Choose wisely for your building’s engineering specs. I did not mount this per instructions, but created a 36″x36″x22″ solid platform for support of entire unit to prevent undue strain on either the windowsill/frame or the roof eaves, where the hooks would otherwise have been inserted, so I can’t speak to that part of the installation.

I very much DO recommend a full inspection of the interior of the unit upon unpacking to make sure that now items may have broken during shipment (I found a broken rivet on the motor to squirrel cage mount.

easily rectified, but unnoticed, could have become a real problem real fast). Once mounted, connected, and foam sealed in the window, the difference is immediately palpable and uses about 50% less power than our central A/C.

We bought this for a 200 sq. Ft. Green house and right after the warranty for the motor ran out at one year, the fan froze up. Hard to get to it to repair it and when my husband finally got it unfrozen it completely froze up motor and all 2 months later.

This is made in the USA and we felt good about buying an a American product but it is not worth trying to repair as the parts are so expensive. Also, it didn’t even cool this small area satisfactorily.

The air moved well,but the air was not cool but tepid when the temperatures were above 80 or so. We live in the Texas hill country at a 2200 ft. Elevation so our humidity is fairly low most of the time.

I have had two other coolers in the past for former greenhouses and they cooled much better.

We’ve use this same model for 7-years and needed to replace our old one and figured we’d get the same unit since it works for our greenhouse and keeps it cool in the hot Texas summer sun. Our greenhouse is a 10×10 unit and it keeps it about 15-20 degrees cooler than the outside temp.

Our greenhouse is in direct sun all day too. No shade from trees. I’d recommend this product for sure. The only thing we noticed is the fan is lower on this unit than the previous one. Otherwise it works the same.
