This switch works great, initially. You can plug one end of your RJ45 cable from your modem to any available port. Old versions have a specific port that your LAN connects to. However, the benefits are s short-lived.

There are many reports (now) of the same issue where it maxxes out at less than 100 Mbps, not 1000 Mbps (Gigabits) as advertised. Support is quite frustrating to deal with and they require you to pay shipping to them when you do an RMA.

It’s simply not worth to ship especially given how this seems to be a common problem. Most people don’t notice speed differences but myself and my devices noticed immediately when this ethernet “switch” stopped performing to spec.

All this leaves me very disappointed. I had not expected performance issues what appeared to be a rock solid device. FWIW, my switch has 5 ports.

I had high expectations from my previous experiences with Netgear products, but this did nothing to tarnish that reputation. I plugged in the incoming feed from my fiber jack in my networking closet and can now connect my routers and other devices to my ethernet ports all around the house.

The lights operate as described with left and right leds lighting when there is a connection and flashing for data transmission. I have gigabit internet and through my networking testing it appears to achieve the gigabit speeds that it claims.

Overall, this is an excellent switch that I would definitely recommend to anyone in the market for this type of networking appliance.

It does not recognize nor accept a single additional lead. Stated another way, it will not assign an appropriate IP address to one additional connection. It will not connect my computer and my 2021WebTV by LG.

Basically, the WebTV is happy with the connection provided by my cable company and works well with no TP-Link LS1005G. It also works ok with the TP-Link attached (provided nothing else is attached). When the computer is attached to the TP-Link LS1005G, the computer does not get connected to the internet.

You can follow all the blah, blah, blah by TP-Link but no connection is accomplished. I value my time more than this idiotic wasteful exercise.

Completely seamless install, at least for me. I should mention I’m a tech guy, but not as deep as many others. When it came to needing a network switch, it was simply that our new router only had two ports and I have many hard-wired devices (a printer, a PC, three smart home hubs, occasionally other devices).

Pros: + so easy to install it’s ridiculous; you can plug the ‘in’ to any of the ports, all the rest can be ‘out’ + no setup required really, just plug and play + no fooling around with additional settings either, it works straight out of the box + good value, I bought the open-box version from Home Essentials Direct and it seemed brand new + good speed, I haven’t noticed any drop in speed across devices whatsoever Cons: – I wish they had better power cords, the way this cord sits along with the ethernet cables has this little light thing sitting weird on my desk (won’t sit flat, can’t push it up against a wall, etc.

) I seriously plugged it in on day one and have never even thought about it since. Works flawlessly. As I said, I am not a super-deep technical person so I can’t comment on additional features of a switch beyond the fact that this one works for me, I had too many hard-wired devices and needed this to connect them all.

I ran out of Ethernet ports on my 5 port 10/100 Ethernet Switch, so I got this 8 port switch. I can still use the 5 port switch on slower devices – just chain it to this one. Installation was simple.

I disconnected power from the old switch, and pulled the wall wart out of the power strip. I then removed the Ethernet cables from the old switch, and powered up the new switch. As I plugged Ethernet cables from my devices, the active light for the port on this switch came on.

The switch looks great, but I have it on the floor, where the cables and power strip are. I don’t change cables often, so it’s OK to keep it there, out of the way. I sort of wish I’d gotten the metal version of this switch, but this one works well.

If it dies, I might upgrade, but it has a lifetime warranty. Oh, and do not pay for professional installation. Finally, as far as I can tell, my Ethernet speed to my computer is at least 10 times faster.

Price to feature set is amazing. You get a nice set of layer 3 features but you don’t need a degree in IT Networking to figure it out. I’ve been a corporate IT consultant for 12 years now and I hold certs with HP networking and Cisco and I can say that bang for the buck, this Netgear switch series has all the features your standard office setup would need.

You can Vlan, traffic prioritize and get some good analysis from the device. We’ve had this series installed for years now at some high use facilities and they are going strong, and compared to a Cisco of similar specs, well priced.

This is perfect for someone that needs that extra management ability because of VoIP or other networking needs but doesn’t need or want to get into full layer 3 switching. The web interface is easily learned and accessible.

You can lock it down as well. Netgear has been really good about product support as well and they fix issues fast with firmware updates as needed. I’ve yet to have one of these fail (knock on wood) and we have these installed in most of our clients’ locations.

These Netgear switches are simply the best. Sturdy case, rock-solid performance, fast. This model is best for installations with cabling at the front so you can see the indicator light. The lights clearly show the speed (10, 100, 1000) on each port.

I recently got new routers and updated ethernet cabling, so I replaced an older Netgear 10,100 hub to get the gigabit speeds. The old hub was the same case and had been working flawlessly for many years.

Since upgrading my speed with Xfinity to 300Mbps max, I needed the faster ethernet to my desktop computer for work from home. I’m consistently getting speed tests on my desktop of 250Mbps and higher.

No setup with this switch, since it is unmanaged. Just plug it in and it works forever!.

Be aware that this switch exposes the management interface on all ports. There does not seem to be a way to turn this off. You should not use this switch in an exposed environment where you need more than password-based security (or if you are uncertain about how much to trust the security of inexpensive network gear firmware).

For example, I purchased this to segment off a couple ports onto a VLAN as a pass-through for the Internet link on the outside of my home router. I wanted to be able to use the port-mirroring capability to inspect the traffic on the outside of my gateway/firewall.

That would leave several ports available (configured on a separate VLAN) to use inside my firewall. There is no way to disable the management interface on those ports exposed outside of my firewall. Netgear is adamant in their forums that this is by design.

If you use this properly secured inside your network, then it is a pretty nice switch. It has a lot of nice features for the price, and I expect it will work reliably (I’m generally a fan of Netgear equipment).

The design around the management interface makes it unsuitable for use in some situations – that dropped my opinion to a 3-star level. The extra star was lost because this limitation is pretty much hidden.

I shouldn’t have to imagine arbitrary security deficiencies and then go and research to find out if a potential purchase has them.

I had an old D-Link DES-1105 5-port switch which had seen its better days. The D-Link was causing radio interference on my Icom IC-7300 shortwave radio transceiver which I was somewhat able to suppress using ferrite beads and metal foil around the D-Link switch.

But the straw that broke the camel’s back with the old D-Link was when we upgraded from the AT&T fiber 100Mbps speed to the 1Gbps speed (actually we are getting about 900Mbps speed) and the D-Link switch could barely pass just over 100Mbps data speeds.

This Netgear GS305 was the answer for both problems. It has a metal case instead of plastic (which the D-Link had) so radio interference on the short-wave radio is gone. And the GS305 had no problems at all with the 900Mbps data speed! It is also smaller in size than the old D-Link.

My radio transceiver is happy now and my wife’s computer and my computer are happy now that we are getting the full internet speed we are paying for! And best of all, it didn’t cost an arm and a leg!.

What a great switch! The product has such plug-and-play simplicity with the depth of customization and security should you decide you want to take things a little deeper. The associated app enables you to manage things quickly and intuitively; it’s a great tech purchase for the most neophyte of techies and the expert who wants a little more control without shelling for the next model up.

Individual, traceable IPs, DHCP or Static for the switch itself. And it’s built solidly too. If I were to accidentally drop it, I’d fear for the flooring more than the device. Well done, Netgear.

Best bang for your buck. Works great. I am using the PoE functionality. Metal housing gives it a better feel. Only negative I found was mounting. Not worth removing a star on the rating: The mounting points on the underside are great to have but their design doesn’t let it be mounted at any angle.

For example it won’t mount solid if you want the ethernet ports facing to the right when mounted against a wall. It will be loose in that position because the screw head won’t “slip” into the slot (giggity) at that angle.

It works but is kind of wobbly and not securely mounted. However if the ports are facing left it allows the screw head to slip in and secure the mount. Hope that makes sense.

I have really liked my non-PoE TP-Link switches and some of them have been workhorses that I only retired when I wanted more ports than I had anticipated. This started off seeming like it fit the bill at a good price.

Then I discovered it didn’t support PoE mode B (verified by tech support) when that’s all my cameras supported. It still worked to power my WiFi APs, but I eventually discovered that the flakiness I was seeing in my commercial grade WiFi was actually due to this switch slowly, silently, and invisibly failing.

It finally got to a point where in-depth diagnosis was unavoidable, and after two hours of testing each component in isolation, I isolated the failure to the switch after less than two years in service.

I have no idea who this product line is supposed to work for, but if you’re in need of a “managed” switch, this is not the switch for you. Yes, it has a web interface, but the terminology and functionality DO NOT follow common network standards; it is VERY restrictive.

If you need a few VLANs, you would be better off to use multiple unmanaged switches connected to a multi-port router/gateway, connected via access-ports. I will likely be returning this switch.

This is my third router. I ran ethernet throughout my home many years ago, putting about 16 drops around my home. I got my first DES-1024D switch almost a decade ago. it worked without interruption for 8+ years with numerous electrical storms, power failures – you name it.

I replaced it with a “namebrand” 16 port – both are “dumb” switches, and good for sustained 200Mb/s transfer rate – The 16 port was rated for Gigabit. That 16 port Gigabit switch died within 18 months’ service.

I replaced it with another 1024D. The reason? Almost all the other switches you buy have “wall wart” AC/DC transformers that doesn’t have the lifespan and robustness of the 1024D’s internal AC. That’s right, it has a regular computer style AC cord.

This is a super simple, plug and play switch. just remember to restart your router after replacement. Speed, Power, Reliability, Simplicity, and easy on the wallet, too – you can’t miss. If you need a small switch for home or business and don’t need Gb speeds – give this one a try.

(For those interested – I have run 4 1024P TVs and I run 2-3 simultaneously with Blu Ray rips – no problems. 4K support is stretching it – so, if you need that, look for a Gigabit or 10Gb switch. ) This is a little more than $2 per port and super reliable.

The TP-LINK TL-SG1005D 5-Port Unmanaged Gigabit Ethernet Desktop Switch is great! This is definitely a Plug and Play device. The instruction leaflet is very simple and large, 10. 5 inches by 13. 25 inches.

Consisting of two Pictograms; Connection, and LED Explanation; on one side. The other side consists of two Frequently asked Questions with their responses, Safety Notices, General Specifications, and an FCC Statement.

The individual Ethernet Ports on the back do not have individual port indicating sets of LED’s on each port. But I do not feel that they are required either. However, there is an individual LED for each Ethernet port on the front along with the Power LED.

The switch is Unmanaged. Just plug in the Ethernet Cable connected to the Router and plug another Ethernet Cable to what ever Ethernet devices, up to 4, that you want to connect. Then connect the power adapter, 9 VDC Output, into the Ethernet Switch, then into a power outlet.

Within seconds you have extended your Ethernet Network. If you are concerned with the Ethernet Switch requiring a MAC Addresses for itself on the router, it does not use a MAC address. I did see on an earlier review where one individual thought that the switch did not work.

This is a Switch, not a Hub. A Switch has some smarts to it and it will need a number of seconds to figure out that you have moved an Ethernet cable to another port. This is a normal function of an Ethernet Switch.

And no, it does not take minutes to recognize that an Ethernet Cable has been moved or connected, just a small number of seconds. The switch is not concerned about whether or not a switch over or straight through type of Ethernet Cable is connected as it will figure that out too by itself.

This is a Gigabyte Switch, so even though you may not have Gigabyte service or a Gigabyte Router, the devices that are connected to the switch will transfer data between themselves at Gigabyte speeds should they be able to do that.

The Switch will handle all speeds of equipment and will allow equipment to transfer data between them at a speed rate that the connected devices can handle. There are a number of very good tutorials on YouTube that can explain and in most cases will show you what the difference between a Switch and a Hub is.

This Switch is made of plastic. And can be mounted on the wall, or side of a table or shelf. It can also just sit on a desk, table, or shelf. All the LED’s are green, and are easily observable but not intense.

Thankfully, the LED’s do not make for a good nightlight.

Don’t waste extra money on gigabit routers that your home network will never need or fully utilize. Streaming HD or even 4k will use 24mbps at most. Gaming uses less, most of the time. Residential service usually provides 12 – 400mbps “maximum”.

There are no minimum guarantees. Get a quality brand 10/100 router like D-Link, and enjoy it for the next few years until gigabit actually is more common and is more affordable.

I had been using an old 3com gigabit router that was ~20yrs old and had seen a major tour of duty ending its watch as a living room switch when suddenly everything seemed to be loading on much slower and my Apple TV 4k didn’t seem as “crisp” as it once was.

Running some diagnostic software showed what should have been ~900-950mbps (1gb speed) was topping out at 35-40mbps on all my devices. Doing some isolation testing pointed right to my old switch so a new switch was needed.

Expecting the prices of years ago ($100’s to even $1000’s), I was pleasantly surprised to find this Netgear gigabit switch fit all my criteria at what was an amazingly low price. A quick swap in for my old switch and viola! Just like that speeds were testing back to their original peak 900-950mbps and everything was right again.

You can’t beat the amazingly low price and the fact it worked right out of the box and swapped right into place. Excellent!.

I use this switch as part of a large synchronized Christmas light show. Although it is not weatherproof, It sits in the middle of my yard on top of a brick with a plastic tub turned upside down on it to protect it from direct rain.

Even in that outdoor environment, it works like a champ for the 5 weeks our show runs – including several rain events. I’m not recommending it for outdoor use, but the price is great, and it is very rugged if protected from direct water.

I bought this only because it had ports in back which I needed for my application. It in no way compares with the Netgear GS108 (ports in front) that I purchased elsewhere the week before for use where front-ports were acceptable.

The GS108 is metal construction, with metal ports, and feels sturdy (the GS608 is all plastic – including the ports – and light-weight). The lower-priced GS208 (ports on back) looked even cheaper. The GS108 has two status lights on each port which, in combinations, show if that port is working at 10, 100 or 1000 mbps.

The GS608 has only a single light per port, which simply shows if the port is active. Every switch manufacturer offers a front-port gigabyte 8-port switch that looks essentially like the GS108. There appeared to be no good options from top-tier companies for rear-port switches.

I knew this when I settled for the GS608, but there appeared to be no alternative. Netgear is capable of making robust switches, but this isn’t one of them. I wish they would make a rear-port gigaswitch comparable to the GS108 in construction and function.

A big mistake people often make when setting up their system is to scrimp on some small part of the whole. Just as a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, any substandard component will negate any advantage you have in a high quality signal, speed and bandwidth.

I replaced the crappy router, etc. provided by our Internet provider with all Netgear products. They were shocked when I walked into their office one week after installation and handed all their equipment back in a cardboard box, saying I didn’t need it.

The improvement in speed and reliablility was amazing. I have been using this router for almost two years with great speed and not one problem. Highly recommend to you. And yes, I am a REAL customer and user, not a shill.

Unit replace an 8 port 10/100 switch and I was happy to see things connecting and transferring at the 1 Gb rate. Moving larger files now taking seconds rather than minutes (seeing around 115 Mbps actual, way better than 10-11 Mbps) Was able to make use of the Connection and Link Speed indicator immediately when moving a “server” over to new switch.

The port number lit up showing a connection but there was no speed indication (amber or green) like the other connections were showing. Found that in moving the cable over, one of the green wires broke so must have been brittle.

Had it not broke then, may have later causing some interesting troubleshooting by remote (client is 80 miles away). Very happy with how it is working, breathing new life into and considering my old 3COM 24 port with one.

I was looking for POE switches. This switch jgs524 appeared. The documentation under the item stated that 8 of the 16 ports were POE. It lied. All the ports are 10 100 1000 but that is all. What a disappointment!! I started plugging my security cameras in, only to find they did not work! I am taking it to the local Office Max/Depot and returning it.

I was charged $179 only to receive a JGS16v2 that on the website is $119. I guess it is true, “buyer beware”.

So far this device does what I wanted it to do. I had a 4 port and needed a couple more ports and this fits the bill. As far as durability, it’s too soon to tell. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because Netgear lies about it’s products because the other reason I bought this was because the description says it is wall mountable.

That is a lie because there are no mounting holes of any kind on this device as you can see from the photos. From what I read, you have to buy a special bracket which they don’t tell you. One thing I want to point out.

This device is replacing a 4 port Netgear switch. I wanted to let you know it appears the power adapters are not the same because I tried to use the adapter from my 4 port switch to power this one so I wouldn’t have to crawl behind my system to switch them.

The adapter for the 4 port switch puts out 0. 25 amps. The 8 port switch adapter puts out 0. 5 amps. The one for my 4 port wouldn’t even light the 8 port switch up most likely because there wasn’t enough amperage.

The adapters that comes with them are not interchangeable as it appears.

Like most people who’ve worked with networking devices, I just don’t trust airtight plastic cases. I like the feel of a heavy metal box and its heat dissipation capability; I like to be able to feel around ventilation holes and get a rough gauge of how hot the air moving across the chipset may be.

I’ve had enough experience with overheating during critical backups to just never trust a sealed plastic box. For that reason alone, I wouldn’t ever recommend this device in a SOHO network except to provide non-critical connections.

For home use, it is OK. By that I mean that I could not make it fail, not with 3 wired devices streaming simultaneously and a large file copy occurring at the same time. It did not increase temperature to the touch, nor did it slow down, maintaining a 76MBps throughput rate, peaking at 82MBps.

I’m more than fine with that. The only two points of failure I’ve ever seen on switches: #1 – HEAT, and #2 – Insufficient power in the wall wart causes voltage irregularity and damages the switch. For cause #2, I will never never EVER complain about a wall wart being too big or too powerful.

That is just plain silly. 1 Amp DC requires a fair-sized transformer, and this unit’s wall wart is comfortably big and heavy to get my trust. For Home. A similarly priced metal-case switch from TrendNet or TP-Link can be found at NewEgg, and may be a better choice, given the case and better visual indicators.

I am giving this 4 eggs just because I couldn’t find any fault with it. A ventilated/metal case would garner 5.

This is a very inexpensive way to add additional wired internet connections. Switching can tend to make me think one of the connections gets the bulk of connectivity, while the others wait their turn and real slow connections.

In testing this I found this to be totally untrue. For just about two weeks I have had 2 daily PC’s, an HTPC and a laptop connected. Two of the computers are used often at the same time and the HTPC is almost always on and running HDTV.

I found it impressive that this unit never left any of them with a poor connection, at any time! This includes online gaming, HDTV running continuous, and a laptop just to be another user so that I could see how good this works.

With two computers doing online gaming, I occasionally saw a slight reduction in FPS, but it was a fast recovery. That showed me that this not only switches on demand, it does it really quick. It’s has been like I didn’t even connect this for the most part (compared to straight out of my router).

With today’s high speeds in our homes and businesses, for the multi-tasking and multi-users, this proved out to be a very good product. There is enough bandwidth to go around. I have a hi-speed package from my supplier.

With a slow basic bandwidth package this might not give as good results, this is ‘Sharing’ a single connection. How can you go wrong to even have this as a tool in the tool box of ifs? Additional connections or want to be ready in case, Would I recommend this to family or friend, yes!.

Tried and Tested Netgear product, a ProSafe (GS105 v5), One cannot fault this compact 5-port Gigabit Switch. With a Lifetime Warranty on the Switch and a 2 Year one on the Adapter one can use with confidence.

So with any LAN I/P, O/P device and Windows 10 up to 5 devices can talk to each other, Tested Quality from a great trusted Tech. Company, I have used these before but not the Gigabit version. As this one was Brand New I had no problems in setting it up, and it did come complete of course with a Wall Mount Kit and Power Adapter.

I still cannot fault this product.

I bought this as a replacement device for another 8 port switch that died. However, when I unpacked it, the heat sink was rattling around inside the metal case, I know because I took out the two screws to open and found the heat sink loose, the thermal bond/glue was completely dried out.

I returned the product and because there were no more in stock, I had to go to another Office Depot to pick up. However, once installed, no issues and the second switch has had no issues.

I got the GS108T smart switch mainly to improve security and performance of my home network. After reading up on all the features, I was impressed with how easy it was to set up on my mostly consumer-grade network hardware.

Even though it took a few tries and some googling to get the advanced features set up right, it will still work fine as a ‘dumb’ switch right out of the box on factory settings. There are much cheaper ‘dumb’ switches out there – but if you operate a SOHO network and are security-minded, or even if you’re a hobbyist who just likes to network all of your appliances together like myself, I would highly recommend this switch.

It provides tons of functionality at a very reasonable price, and the compact form factor also fits nicely on a small desk or cabinet.

I was looking for a simple extension to my router since I decided to hook everything up via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi. This switch added plenty of additional ports and since I really only use one of whatever I have plugged into it at a time I have tested it and the results on some of the items hooked into it had even faster download speeds than my normal router, including my gaming PC.

This ended up being one of the best things I’ve ever bought and it doesn’t cost much at all. Also comes in different sizes regarding the amount of extra unmanaged ports. I have recommended this switch to multiple people and they all say the same thing.

Needed to extend the amount of wired connections in the office. Not everything supports the latest wifi protocols. So wired is still the fastest option in this case. The TP-LINK TL-SG108 8-Port 10/100/1000 Gigabit Desktop Switch would do the trick.

Only needed about 4 ports but at the price for this switch it just made sense to go for it. Installaion was easy, no ethernet cables are included so you will have to provide your own. Everything worked as soon as it was connected.

Would recommend this product.

I was concerned if this would work with my 1 gig fiber line, however all went smooth, and it works perfect. I have 2 RPI’s connected to it, and speeds are far superior to wireless. However, I haven’t experienced speed tests that live up to the claims on the product, I also have not checked the ethernet cable I chose to use to see if I purchased one with beyond 1gig up/down speeds.

Either way, I’ve been very happy with this. Just wish that the Amazon “recommend” combined purchases would either the fastest cables to go with the switches capabilities and or more clearly describe if not.

Looking at the cables, I can’t really tell if I have the best I could have purchased. Otherwise, fast shipping and solid switch.

What’s not to like about this 8-port switch, each port capable of 1 Gb/s, especially at its attractive price point? Zero configuration: any port any device, upstream device on any port, no worry about cross-over cables, just plug and play.

Too, MS Windows networking capabilities have evolved to the point where your PC will find and use a printer located on this switch with no user involvement. Ditto Apple iOS, at least for my iPad (I do not use a MAC computer).

I really didn’t know what I was doing. I needed more connection points for devices in my home network – more ethernet cables to connect different rooms in my house and sources. I started searching the internet on home networks, learning how to connect things.

I have used Netgear equipment for a long time, routers, modems, etc. I found the 16 port gigabit switch and bought it. I placed it in a central electronic cabinet where all the ethernet cables pass – determined which cable went to/came from, connected them up and the home network was born.

This 16 port switch has worked flawlessly and passes the internet to/from my pc at almost 900 mbps. Wow – thanks Netgear! I heartily recommend this switch to all. Thanks Netgear.

I had no problem with the mounting kit (two anchors and two screws) that was included. It would have been nice if there was a paper template to go with it, but it was simple enough to just use a ruler and do a quick center-to-center measurement.

I went ahead and installed the rubber feet on it anyway, and then adjusted the height of the screws accordingly. It is pretty sturdy for me. I had no problem hooking everything up to it (I replaced a 9-year-old Linksys SLM2024 with this) and it has handled everything I’ve thrown at it.

I don’t know what the ultimate throughput capability is on the switching fabric, but I am able to do two separate transfers between four machines and get about 870mbit on each transfer simultaneously, with 9K jumboframes.

Seems like it can do pretty well. Mine barely feels warm to the touch at all, even under a heavy load like that. The one and only tiny nit-picky gripe that I could possibly think of is simply just a preference and not actually a “con.

” Each port has two LEDs. One indicates 10mbit, the other indicates 100, both means gigabit. I would have preferred A) one of them turn orange to indicate gigabit, and B) whichever LED(s) are lit-up, flash for activity, so gigabit means both of them flash.

I know, it’s entirely a nit-picky preference, but that’s what I would have preferred. Other than that, this switch is all-around solid. Netgear in recent years has earned my respect for having good products, and they’ve gotten me to ditch Linksys.

Been using this for nearly a month now. I can’t find anything to suggest this doesn’t work properly. I don’t have 16 devices to load up on it, but I did have 5. For the most part I observed over time normal usage scenarios that were unremarkable in that everything worked as expected or simply that it gave the impression that there was no switch and that each device was directly connected to each other.

Recently I conducted an experiment where I attempted to load the device with all 5 machines each passing a very large file to each the other 4 machines. Astonishingly, I could find no evidence to suggest that any one machine was impeded by another such that it was locked or waiting on any other.

Of course bandwidth was reduced by simply each sharing what was available at the time, but other than that, the test outcome was that it was nearly as unremarkable as normal every day use such that the awareness of the device was not prevalent to a misconception that each machine was directly connected to each machine in some capacity.

To me, this is what a good switch should do. If you have need for a good switch, regardless if you can fill it up, this is still a safe bet.

Managed switches are great when you need them, but for home use I just wanted something I could connect for minimal cost that just works. I plugged it in and it worked like I expected, no management hassles.

What more could I ask for.

We had this switch for about 7 months. The last few months it would lock up randomly after 1 day to 1 week. We did some troubleshooting and all signs pointed to the switch (a power cycle would restore it to use for another 1 day to 1 week).

Eventually we got tired of that and replace it. The lockup problems went away. So I called CISCO to get this broken one replaced, expecting a 10 minute call. After almost an hour of them trying to have me to PC-to-PC ping diagnostics on an unmanaged switch that ALWAYS works fine when we initially plug it in, and telling me that if they could ping, they would not replace it, I gave up.

TERRIBLE WARRANTY SUPPORT for a proven bad (the new one works fine, rock solid) sub-$50 switch.

A great value for a non managed 10/100/1000 switch from a renowned company. Very affordable and well built. It doubled my desktops speed which is amazing when downloading or streaming. I would highly recommend this switch for those whom want top shelf performance at an affordable price! Plug and play is alive and well!.

Sometimes it is just too hard to run multiple cables back to a central closet, particularly in an older masonry building. We were able to snag a now-unused CAT-6 cable from floor one and swing it up to a room on floor two, terminate it and plug a short patch cable betwern the now terminated cable and port 1 of this switch.

The switch grabbed POE, started, and provided gig-speed network to a smart TV and a lap top. Adoption went smoothly and everything was up and running promptly–and much faster than the wireless the users were over taxing.

And the price is right, I bought a 3-pack and have deployed two already. If the third one is deployed quickly I’ll buy a 5 pack next. The silly thing is so small, it easily fits in a pocket.

Needed a PoE injector to power two WAX214 APs. In early 2000s I was manufacturing proprietary equipment which was placed on top of silos, 400′ towers, on top of churches, etc. All of this was PoE, so I had some background knowledge in what was needed.

I had dug out some pass-thru vintage PoE injectors which haven’t been used in two decades. these things are bullet proof, lightning arrestor, capacitors, backup power supplies, etc. I was tempted to go that route.

But as luck would have it, I got lazy and decided to add this little 4 port PoE (1 port standard) a go. I expected something cheap (it was inexpensive after all) that I’d end up not using for very long if at all.

I was pretty surprised by this one. it’s a solid, metal case. feels great, small form factor. The LED lighting they tossed on it includes everything you need for an unmanaged switch of this type. They did a great job giving you the information you need.

The two WAX214 access points were easily powered (around 150′ of CAT6 being used). Uplink is fine for what it is (1Gbit). For my application, this was all fine and leaves me a few ports to grow – although I’m not sure if I’d toss another two PoE devices on it – pending on the voltage requirements anyways.

Perhaps it could handle it, but it’s entry-level stuff. You will get your Gbit out of it, minus the overhead, in a perfect setup with just two devices. don’t expect enterprise quality. but for 99% of the world, this is a brilliant little PoE injector/switch.

We have several Netgear switches on our network that have always performed well. This item is an easy plug and play unit for four POE devices and is operating with no issues.

I used this Linksys switch to replace an old 5 port Dlink switch which was only 10/100. Compared to the old Dlink, this new Linksys is 10/100/1000, in a smaller and more robust metal case. It draws less current and it’s cheaper than the older Dlink was when originally purchased.

When the Dlink was purchased (about 6 or 8 years ago) it was state of the art, but this newer Linksys just blows it out of the water.

I got this for cloning laptops and had been using old used 24 port 3com gigabit switches and this one really cut the sessions down in 1/2 the time. Using the 3com each session would take 2 to 2 1/2 hours to finish but with the Linksys it brought the time down to just over an hour.

I have a bunch of new laptops getting ready to be delivered so I’m already thinking about ordering at least another one or two of these and totally abandon those old ones that I’ve been using.

The LEDs lets you know what your main speed is via green=100 Mbps or more; amber = less than 100Mbps and no light = either no connection to the internet or neither the switch and/or the computer isn’t powered up.
