20 Best Epoxy Resin For Tumblers (2023 Updated)

I finally managed to resin a custom Minecraft Lego table I painted for my kids. It ended up working well, but only after five or six FAILED layers! I feel that there need to be better instructions to save other people the hassle: – it is best to leave both bottles in a bucket of hot tap water for an hour so they are warmed up at the time of application.

It makes the resin more fluid, easier to apply, and reduces the amount of bubbles. – the resin and hardener need to be measured in volume and NOT in weight because they have different densities. Measuring in weight will result in a wrong ratio and tacky spots.

– if some of the product isn’t perfectly mixed, it will result in permanent tacky spots. The TotalBoat instructions say to mix slowly to avoid bubbles; however, if mixing not fast enough in the allotted time, the product may not be entirely mixed.

– it is best to mix the product in 2 or 3 smaller simultaneous batches at the time of application, rather than one larger batch. I mixed half a gallon worth of product in larger containers for the correct amount of time and it wasn’t mixed well enough, resulting in many tacky spots.

– It is important to watch the bubbles for at least 15-20 minutes and pop them with a heat gun on low setting. They keep appearing after 10 minutes. Don’t walk away too fast! Overall, this is a good product, but I had to order it three times because I kept having failed layers, so it ended up pretty expensive, frustrating and time consuming.

If I were to do another table, I would reorder it and do it well the first time, now that I know what to do and not to do.

This product works very well for me. As a beginner in using Epoxy, the setup time for me is important and this allows me to work with my art without having to worry about it setting up too fast. I was looking for a product with the UV protection and other products were too expensive for me.

Alumilite Amazing Clear Cast with the high gloss makes my paintings burst with color. I love it and will continue to buy this product.

I normally use amazing cast resin, wanted something to stop the tumblers from yellowing so quickly. mixed as I would normally (per directions) and 10 hours later it isn’t cured and super sticky. Should have went with my initial instinct and not purchased.

Now I have completely wasted special order glitter and tumblers.

I liked the price, but epoxy only works as a top coat, otherwise does not cure. I wasted so much time and made several batches and waited longer than a week. Still didn’t cure. Very upsetting. Don’t know if I got a bad batch.

I’ve worked with epoxy for 2 yrs now and tried many brands. I know how to mix and the importance of curing temperatures. Very disappointing.

I only use West Systems 105 for my boat refits. Mixed with the correct hardner, I use it for fiberglassing and thickened with 406 for bonding and filets. Mixing it with kitty hair (chopped fiberglass) creates a glass to glass bond like no other.

Also 407 additive creates a perfect fairing compound.

West Systems is a boat builders/repair epoxy that has excellent performance. It has also been approved for certain aircraft applications. I use it for a number of jobs but mostly for building model airplanes when I need a good epoxy that’s easy to use and not thick like the hobby epoxies.

It wets out fiberglass very well and can be used to laminate wood to other materials like foam. Its low viscosity allows it to penetrate into wood pores much better than most other wood glues and provides a high bonding strength.

This is my second purchase of this product as I ran out. You can also call the Gougeon Brothers for any questions and assistance. Good stuff.

This is the first time I used West System epoxy. I’m very happy with the product. I recommend getting the epoxy pumps it make it so much easier to prepare additional epoxy mixes in the middle of a job.

I used the epoxy to repair a soft spot on my deck hatch. It’s in an area that does not require finishing. So I don’t have much experience applying West System epoxy and finishing with gel coat.

This is my first time working with epoxy resin. This is an extremely good product. Once it hardens it is completely perfect. I made coasters to start with and i have been using them every day & not 1 scratch.

I read a lot of reviews on a lot of different epoxy’s before deciding on this particular one, It was exactly what I expected, mixed well, set up without any issues. I mixed it exactly to the instructions and I had no difficulty with working with it.

The results were fabulous and I’ll definitely be ordering it again.

This is Amazing just like the name says! Easy to use. Just mix 50/50, stir well and pour. I made my first ever cast with this and it came out great! The odor is just a bit strong and lingering. I suggest to use it in the garage or room you don’t use much.

This was very simple to use. I had seen a few ideas on the internet of some fun little crafts to do. When I was mixing it, very few bubbles formed, but the rose to the top easily to get popped. It took the shape of the intricate mold very well and I’m very pleased with the results.

This is the worst resin I’ve used and I’ve been making resin pieces for a couple of years. The odor is awful, it takes forever to set and the work time is a joke. I only bought it because I needed to do some custom pieces and my reg resin was delayed.

The thick set was excellent for the half-inch pours. But it had a horrible response when I tried to do a thin coat over top of my last half inch pour. Although the website and advertisement notes that this material can be used as a thin layer.

, I would highly recommend not using it for this application. In speaking with the technical support team, they confirmed that it may not always have positive results as a thin layer, the recommendation is for the high-performance epoxy in this case.

The thin pour did not cure and I had to chisel it all out after several days at the advice of the technical team (in and around rocks ) over several hours until I got back to the cured half inch pour below.

Subsequently, I applied the high-performance epoxy and there is thankfully no signs of the chiseling marks left behind (note, I did add a pinch of blue coloring just to help cover any white marks that may appear through the epoxy from my chisel).

Bottom line, great product but be sure to stay in it’s lane- thick set pours only 😁👍.

Had a great experience with this product. Our project yellowed a tad bit, but, we started pouring during a heatwave and ambient temps were in the 90’s and possibly 100’s in the shop. We are aware that is not the recommended ambient temp but, we had already started.

We made a 4 1/4″ slab 16 x 26″. Based on the temp we pours either 1/4″ or 1/2″ pours. I think it was 12 pours in total. Pleased with it. Minor air bubbles formed but, we think it was from the bones. We found a mummified cat under my house running power and decided to cast it in epoxy.

I think air escaped from the rib bones as the layers cured over 7 days.

I’m working on a large-scale project that includes making 3,000 gummy bears ina. rainbow of colors that I’m sharing online as I go. I switched to Total Boat after seeing another maker use it. It doesn’t leave bubbles on top of my poured parts.

It dries harder and “crisper” than the resin I used prior. I use the pre-measured pump which makes it so easy to keep making new batches. For this application, I like that it’s a thinner pouring consistency than other resins I’ve used.

I have tried dozens of brands of epoxy for tumblers. I have always liked the fast set the best. But THIS is the best of any and all I have ever tried. It only needs mixed for about 60 seconds. I didn’t believe it at first until I tried it myself.

It mixes easily and that shine is beyond beautiful. Believe them when they say it dries in 15 minutes. I was able to take it off my turner for the next round of cups quicker than I ever expected. THANK YOU EPOXY RESIN STORE!!! I have never been happier!!!.

Over the years I’ve used every West System product for many applications. The biggest was repairing thousands of gelcoat bubbles on my 4 year old Yamaha 30 sailboat. (When the boat was commissioned the yard fails to apply epoxy primer before anti-fouling paint.

) The hull was an unbelievable mess. I had another yard sandblast it below the waterline, which removed all the gelcoat, and dug out the thousands of bad spots. I wanted it fixed right, but, couldn’t afford to have the yard do the repairs.

I’d never used West, but the yard owner said that West System was the only way to go! I coated the raw glass with unthickened West System Epoxy Resin. When it cured I sculpted thickened resin to fill all the “cavities”.

Then I sanded it, did a final fairing with thickens West, and sanded it again to a perfectly true racing bottom. I’m happy to report that “Bushido” is still going strong, is residing in Kaneohe Bay, and, after 30 more years in Hawaiian waters has had no problems with the repairs! I actively raced it there, back in the day, (24-27 races a year) with a seasons point record of 1st, 2nd, or 3rd for 8 of the 9 years! Now I’m doing another major repair on flood damage to the hull of my Capri 30.

I’ve used the 105 epoxy with the clear 205 hardener on a couple of slab wood projects. Their pump system makes mixing a no brainer. Sets up very well and is easy to finish. I really like the crystal clear appearance.

I used West Systems epoxy with fiberglass mat to lay down a new layer of fiberglass on the plywood platform under the fuel tank on my 1984 Bertram. The original layer was pulled up while removing original fuel tank.

I measured the correct quantities of resin and hardener with the metered pump kit. I highly recommend the pump kit for small repairs. Just as with any 2 part activated product, one must work quickly, efficiently, and especially neatly.

I can’t emphasize enough how well prepared and organized one must be. Time will not be on your side. Mix only enough to use for each small phase of the job. And do not mix and leave in a deep pot. It will get very hot.

So after mixing, transfer to shallow metal pan and get to work. I also used this to attach the new fiberglass fuel tank to the bulkhead. The installation was successful and I was very pleased with the product.

It performed as specified. Since I had it around, I also used it to seal the lead downspout insert in a cedar gutter and seal the end of the gutter from leaking. EVER. It might seem like overkill, but I now think it is the perfect product for this application.

Bought a used dining table at a yard sale with a worn dark brown stain. I sanded the top down with 220 grit, wiped the dust away with a few microfiber towels, then stained the top with Varathane Quick Dry Ebony Stain.

After it had set into the wood for 8 hours, and wiping excess stain away every couple hours, I gave the tabletop a seal coat. Be wary of the recommended amount, it heavily overestimates the amount needed for a seal coat.

Being generous with a brush, I used a little less than half the amount of epoxy that was recommended for the seal coat, leading to 12 oz of wasted epoxy. After 4 hours had passed I prepared and poured the flood coat.

The 30% estimated loss from pouring over the edge is an exaggeration as well, provided you’re being careful and actually pouring near the edge and not just drowning the center of the surface and waiting for it to flow outwards.

Because of this overestimation, I lost another 32 oz of epoxy. Overall I would highly recommend this epoxy, just be more conservative than the instructions with the amount you mix up for a coating project and keep a small container on hand for a smaller batch if you happen to undershoot the amount.

I spent a lot of time and effort researching different epoxies for my live edge bar top. I had spent so much time and effort on my bar project and my live edge top was the focal point of my bar and I didn’t want to disappoint.

Not only was this the most outstanding product, the customer service they have is by far, untouched!!! This was one of the only places that had a phone number and a person you could talk to, and was very very patient and knowledgeable about the product, and made me feel they wanted to help.

I called numerous times asking questions although if you go through their FAQ section and website you will find the answer to almost anything you need, and if not just call and I guarantee they can help you.

I will say you must go strictly by the instructions, especially the mixing instructions to achieve what you want out of a finished product. My end results were far more than my expectations and I couldn’t ask for anything different as it is exactly what I wanted and much more!!! I assure you if you don’t rush, and go by the procedures you will have the most astonishing finished you have ever seen!!! The depth is amazing, as is the crystal clarity of the finish.

Such an easy process to do, just go by, go by, go by the instructions because they work. Also use the kit they sell because it is everything you need. I see enough negative reviews these days, and I love it when I can post good stuff about something! If you have a project you are working on, trust these people to do you right! I can’t say enough about this product and support!.

I built a 14′ bar outside. I wanted something kind of fun. I had done a bathroom penny floor several years back with this same product and it came out PERFECT! This was a little harder, there were bubbles, and some quite large.

I sanded them out and drilled some of them out and did another pour this morning. It turned out great in my opinion. The top is completely flat. The first pour, it was not sealed enough, and using wood and other items can have air pockets.

But after prepping for several days for the next pour, it was well worth it! I figured, spending money on something that didn’t come out right, needed another go at it, and I’m really glad I did! Total, the first pour was 5 gallons and so was the second, where it filled all the drill holes and the sanding, you can’t even tell.

There were two areas that had very tiny bubbles, but they were way down on the wood, and I decided not to fix those on the second go, they weren’t compromising the flat top and plus, it looked a little like sand (which I filled in the middle anyway).

Love this project. I couldn’t tarp it but stood out there catching falling leaves. All in all, only a few little particles got on there, and they ended up sinking, still keeping a flat top. I love it and would totally recommend this product! Seal coat first though if you are using wood, I wish I did that! All in all, I’m very happy with it! Can’t wait to finish it with old barn tin roof (rusted) around the base and for the roof when I can get that done.

The matchbox car was my sons, his contribution! He had to take off the wheels so it wouldn’t stick out. It’s about 3/4 inch thick total, the lip was 1/4 inch high, and the second flood coat dripped over the sides.

I found that this resin is much thicker than most. The bottle says approximately 30 min work time and thats exactly what you get. For clear coating or casting its good. Not the product you want to use if you are doing different color artistic pours as it heats up very quickly after adding the color.

And the viscosity is very thick hard to get the stuff to even spread much less mix and mingle on the project.

I love it. It is a quick cure, especially if you add a little heat with a heat gun on low. Clear, no air bubbles when cured. It is a little on the thick side at application, so if you need it more thin to spread easier, just put your mixing cup inside a cup of hot water midway and mix your epoxy that way.

The mixing process isn’t as “picky” as other resins… you don’t need to spend a lot of time with super thorough mixing. Just make sure part a and b are EXACT. It is kinda picky with that. It’s the best resin on the market as far as I’m concerned.

I trust this resin and won’t waste my time or money ever trying anything else and that’s an honest statement!.

I am no novice to epoxy. I’ve been using the standard alumilite for 3 years now. I saw this epoxy and was super excited at the thought of being able to work faster on my cups. The first cup I put it on, was tacky for almost 24 hours.

I thought I mis measured, maybe under mixed, or didn’t follow the instructions in some way. I tried again on another cup. Same problem. Super tacky, I couldn’t do anything with the cup even after waiting several days.

I tried one final time following the directions explicitly, measuring super carefully, mixing for 7+ minutes, ensuring the temperature was exactly 75°. still tacky and was so for at least 3 days. I had enough and finally just coated everything I had put the quick coat on with a coat of normal alumilite and it finally cured normally.

I returned this stuff. More trouble than it is worth.

I love this company and their resin. I’ve used most every type they make save a few. I usually like to use the quick coat for the first few layers when making a cup or pen, however it must have the regular AACC or AACC+ for a sealer since the quick coat don’t have the uv inhibitors I.

It. Also I would use it in molds. Just use the regular resins (not the quick coat) for the molds. And be sure to measure very exact or it could throw your whole project to the “wind”. I usually pour into a second or even third cup after 5 mins of mixing in between.

I hope this is the world’s worst epoxy, anything else would be unimaginable. I’ve used 2-part 5 minute expoys since about 1974 or 75, starting w/ places that have hot fuel exposure, and engine vibration on things that fly, where the hold is critical.

Never had a problem. I’ve used a couple of different brands, the original Devcon w/b preferred, but the Ace brand is also extremely good, sets as expected, hold is strong on a variety of materials. Some time ago I tried Gorilla glue and had trouble, it didn’t set after hours on a plastic air intake and was almost sucked into the engine.

I called tech support and was told I was using it wrong, and it didn’t work on certain plastics. Since I mix epoxies on a plastic lid and often peel it off afterwords, I sorta know intuitively which plastics and the intake I didn’t think was but I went with their advice: I’d used it wrong.

Then after peeling what was left of the Gorilla stuff off – and it was still soft over 24 hrs later, I mixed up Ace’s 5-minute epoxy and in no time it was hard adhered and I’d sealed the intake, that was a year or so ago, it’s still there; under the hood of a car to be clear.

So maybe I HADN’T USED IT WRONG < oops, inadvertant caps lock, ha! Apropo, I'm leaving it. Not an isolated incident. Everything I used this product on has had problems, first I'm told mine's expired (2014 product code), okay I got a new pack - same problems (the Ace brand I just used today, Copywrite 2005, worked perfectly) I'm told I'm mixing it wrong, good deal, and good thing I didn't mix it wrong 45 years ago on the airplanes! And everything else since; I've been mixing and using all kinds of two part types of glue during those 45 years without a problem, so what's special about this? Apparently you "have to" mix it in the little tray on the package AND you mustn't let it spread out when you mix.

Okay then, I tried those precautions. Except neither of those remedies worked. 3 hrs later, still not set.

just fine, and as expected, once you get a normal mixture down. However, the plunger is much more flexible than other manufacturer’s product, so it is far too easy to end up with a batch that can take overnight to harden.

I’m talking real rubbery and gooey. Moreover, do not store with the plunger side down, unlike other manufacturer’s product the epoxy does leak slowy out of this end. It is for this fact that I rated this product so low.

Also the oneway tab on the cap needs to be more prominent.

I would give this zero stars if I could. This claims to bond a variety of materials, with the fine print being not as effective on some plastics. I bought it to use on a decor craft project, only reading this detail after I finished so when it came apart I chalked it up to that because I followed the directions closely.

Next I used it to bond metal to glass for another decor project and had a similar result. Note, these are not “high traffic” items, mainly just sitting there so I can’t imagine it being useful for any type of repair on an item that gets regular use.

Simply worthless, actually worse than that because I have wasted my time. To top it all off, it was messy and a hassle to apply alongside having terrible fumes. For nothing!.

I am an artist that uses acrylic paint on various surfaces, such as wood to do barn quilts, (that can be painted or stained) and hung outside, rocks ( for gardens or small gifts),small canvases, mirrors, or ceramic tile to do pointillism or mandalas.

I coat all of them with resin when done to maintain color and protect the surfaces. The resin makes them heat and cold tolerant. Much less expensive than using other coatings, such as varnishes or glazes.

Started experimenting with this a little or a year ago and will never go back to using something else. A lot of what I make gets custom frames and the resin makes it looks like glass, which I could never afford for each piece.

This was the first time I tried Art Resin. It was not exactly cheap so I was hesitant. Coating my first piece I eyeballed how much I thought I needed and was luckily right. However after the first coat dried I noticed there were a few dust speckles and two spot that did not get coated at all.

I used the spreader that was recommended but did not use the tooth side because I was afraid it could leave marks. I thought the piece was ruined, but I saw on youtube that all I had to do was sand the imperfections down and spread another coat of Art Resin on top.

This time I used the toothed side to spread the medium. I used a heat gun to get rid of any bubbles and then let it dry 24 hours under a box. The next day the finish was flawless. You would never know there had been any imperfections.

The finish was like glass – absolutely beautiful!.

I have used epoxy several other times with other brands. This by FAR was the hardest to mix and had soooo many air bubbles. I have been using my torch almost nonstop trying to get the epoxy to a glass finish.

As for the viscosity – this is so thick – it didn’t fill in as other brands have. maybe I just got an old product? I’m glad they provided a plastic spreader – I have always used old business cards to spread the epoxy with no issues – this was way too thick and sticky for that thin cardboard – the spreader was required.

It was a little yellow – both hardener and the resin. Doubt I’ll use MAS brand again.

After watching the recent Rockler video demonstrating how to create coasters with Table Top epoxy and Mixol tints I ordered a few of the products. I used a piece of bloodwood and created a few coasters that came out very well following the video process.

I also used my Dewalt planer and router with miter bit to trim the 3/4″ bloodwood to 1/2″ and produce a nice edge on the coasters. Finished with a coat of beeswax, giving a deep sheen. Nice Valentines Day present for my wife, and fun for me with only a few hours’ work.
