Review of Castin’Craft Epoxy 16oz. I really like Castin’ Craft Epoxy. It is very simple to use as it is a 1 to 1 mixture. 1 part epoxy and 1 part hardener. 16 oz is a good starter size or if you are making 1 big mixture run.

I bought this size because Joann had a great sale and I got this as a back up if I were to run low on my bigger supply. But when I got it home, I decided to make a big batch using several sizes of molds.

I ended up just mixing the entire 16 oz and splitting it up into a bunch of smaller size containers so that I could add several different coloring in each cup. I had to hurry, as separating the batch takes longer and the epoxy has time to start setting up.

I had a lot of fun and a big mess. I recommend Castin’ Craft products, any size, as it is very clear if you follow the mixing instructions. Joann usually has a good price and I can order it and it is usually in stock and I can drive up and pick it up.

This kit is for newbies who wish to get their feet wet in the “ocean” of casting resin projects. The price is excellent, and the kit itself is well-packed and withstands the rigors of shipment. It is important to read not only all the directions both on the outside of the box, but also on the folded multi-lingual instruction sheet packed inside.

Preparing the shop for the use of this kit means obtaining a means to carefully measure the VOLUMETRIC amounts of the two components, not their weights, which are different. I used flexible plastic mini-pipettes.

I started out with 10mL samples and then went on to 20mL samples. I mixed in plastic electrical tape covers, which have flat bottoms. Mixing for three minutes minimum means exactly that. When finally applied to an embedment project my pours ended up with no bubbles and no mess.

Now, without spending fifty or one hundred dollars, anyone can train and prepare for casting resin projects. I would buy this again and would recommend it to my friends.

I used this resin to make coasters. I previously used Crystal Clear Art Resin and it was amazing. However I ran short and needed 4 more coasters. I didn’t have time to wait for delivery on the CC resin so I went to Michaels and bought this resin.

It wasn’t until after I got home that I read the reviews and some of them had me extremely worried for what the outcome would be. I was fretting all night about it due to the reviews. However my experience was not so bad.

The biggest issue for me is the yellow tint of the resin. I didn’t read about this issue in the reviews, but when I took the bottles out of the package I was immediately worried. The resin comes in a very yellow tint out of the package.

The Previous resin I used was clear in the bottles and came out like glass. So I was worried. While it did come out with a yellow tint, it was not as bad as I anticipated. But for that reason I will never purchase this resin again.

However I will say that my coasters were mostly clear. If you are using color powder or ink, it wouldn’t matter. I’m not sure what the issue is people are having with the mixing process. I had no issues and it cured in 24 hours enough to remove from the molds, and then at 48 hours was rock solid.

I used silicone molds and I didn’t realize this resin says to use a type of liquid beforehand for removal. However, removing the coasters was no issue whatsoever even without it. As far as mixing I put the bottle of resin (not the hardener) in hot water before hand.

For 15 mins. Then dumped the water, refilled with hot water, and waited another 15 mins. I then dumped both bottles into a larger container and mixed it for 3 mins making sure to scrape the sides and bottom continuously.

I then dumped that into two smaller plastic cups equally. I added glitter and gave a good stir. I then added my pieces to the molds and poured the resin on top. Filling each as equally as possible. Waited 24hr.

Removed the coasters from the mold, let them sit another 24 hours. They were good to go! So, while I would not use this again because of the price for such a small amount, and the yellow tint, I didn’t find it difficult to use at all.

After reviewing many products for deep resin casting I decided to try this one. I was very happy with the results. I received many compliments on the board. If you follow the directions it works perfectly.

I let it cure 3 days in the HDPE mold I created. It came out great. Learning to polish the resin to a high gloss was challenging but in all the product worked great,.

I tried my first project using epoxy resin about a year ago and I have been hooked ever since. Since then in an effort to save money and get the best possible price that I can I have used a number of different brands.

I have been fairly pleased with most of them and none of them have been bad but without a doubt Gencrafts Epoxy Resin has become on of my favorites because it performs beautifully and the price is always reasonable and fair.

I make a lot of jewelry and it always dries crystal clear without turning yellow or hazy. I will definitely keep purchasing this product for my epoxy needs and would absolutely recommend it to anyone who needs an affordable high performance epoxy resin for their projects.

This stuff is amazing. Has very little odor, cured crystal clear and does a great job of eliminating bubbles. Use of heat gun is still required for the first hour. Very important to keep let it cure at the proper ambient temperature.

This is now my go to epoxy for anything!.

Incredibly long cure time. 72 hours trying to keep the dust off meant the work shop could not be used for anything else. Long cure time also meant that colours merged and cell patterns lost definition.

I like that it is addressing some of the toxic issues and is better for the environment. I will probably use it for single colour work and build somewhere to store the projects in a controlled dust free atmosphere whilst curing.

I am super happy with the service I got! I made a mistake when I ordered, it was after normal business hours but I called the number and left a message. The next morning Madeline called we and was able to correct the problem for me quickly and in a pleasant and professional manner.

Even when the product was delivered, only one box was dropped instead of two, I called again to explain what happened, and Madeline said she would check into it ( in the mean time the driver realized his mistake and dropped the second box).

So I called again and left a message saying the driver had just dropped the second box. Shortly after I a received a call back thanking me for letting them know the second package was dropped off. This level of customer service is rare in business today.

I’ve been working with resin for 2 years and this is the worst garbage I’ve ever used. I saw the Mod Podge name and had high hopes but it was beyond disappointing. The resin (part A) was so thick it was barely pourable.

There were SO. MANY. BUBBLES, and since it’s so viscous, they have trouble escaping, Yeah, yeah, yeah, pour slowly, stir slowly, use heat gun, whatever. I don’t like using heat guns on my silicone molds as it damages them.

and makes them wear out too quickly. in addition to the bubbles, it has the strongest odor of any resin I’ve used, and it hardened to a pale yellow, not clear. The pot time is also REALLY quick. It says 30 minutes but it was pretty much unusable after 20.

This is NOT a good product. There are definitely better products out there at comparable prices.

So it is very affordable compared to other top leading brands and is very easy to work with. Self leveling for easy pours and dries crystal clear. There were few to no bubbles at all during the process so no need for constant torching or hair drying.

Mix, pour, swirl, go eat lunch, and your done. Curing process is fast and your ready to go on to the next one. Definately recommend you at least try it out if your into castings. If you haven’t tried an epoxy resin project or craft what are you waiting for.

It is beautiful the perfect self leveling resin I have learned so much about this resin. I am 100 % satisfied. My Maui customers will love my art. Half of the work is this unique great quality resin.

I love this company. After trying first time this one came to stay. I have never done resin it has been so inspiring and FUN! Customer Service is awesome. Honestly the best.

Ugh. this stuff! Walmart was out of Loctite brand, so I got this. It might “set” in 5 min, but its sticky for hours. It also thinkens pretty quickly after you mix it. I’ll find Loctite online and hopefully never need to use this brand again.

For what I use this for, it just doesn’t work well. The Loctite brand doesn’t thicken as quickly so I can typically use the entire amount I mix, it also completely dries much faster.

It did not harden. My application was repairing my glasses frame, metal-on-metal. I mixed the two parts of Gorilla Glue Epoxy thoroughly, used a tiny dab on an applicator, clamped it, and let it set over-night.

Not only did the repair not hold but the spot on my tool bench where I mixed the epoxy was still a sticky. It may work for others, but for me it did not harden.

I was creating a backsplash and refinishing a counter with this epoxy. The backsplash I did first, mixing about 30 oz. This process went very smoothly and it turned out great. When I mixed the product for the counter, I made about 60 oz.

Very soon after mixing the product, I noticed the product started to get warm in the bucket and began forming large chunks. The material solidified so quickly that I could not work with it. Upon doing some research, I found that resins mixed in too large of a volume will sometimes react like this.

There is no warning on the instructions that tells you to not mix a volume above a certain amount. It’s unfortunate that the bad batch is stuck to my counter and cannot be fixed.

I absolutely love this stuff! It is crystal clear! It is easy to de-gas, easy to work bubbles out without a pressure pot, and the suspension for the 50 micron phosphorescent pigment powder does not compare! This stuff is just as amazing as Smooth On’s Crystal Clear, I moved too far from my supplier and found this casting resin to be equal to professional grade! I make casts of my sculptures and sell them online and I’ve been able to easily work with this stuff, I always recommend this product to all my artist friends!.

I fell in love with this epoxy resin to make coasters, sun catchers and vessels featuring my watercolor work. It is easy to use, just follow the directions. I stir for 4 minutes then 2 more. I also have the culinary torch to blast the bubbles.

It sets up within a few hours to mold vessels. It also easily comes out the the molds. Very little odor and it cures clear. I found it won’t stick to a variety of surfaces that can be used in molds. This creates all kinds of ways to make unique resin art.

I’m not impressed with Art ‘N Glow Clear resin and won’t buy it again. LOTS of bubbles and even after thorough mixing and careful measuring the casting remained somewhat sticky and flexible after 30 hours of curing.

Maybe it works better for coating surfaces, but for it didn’t work for mold casting for me.

This is my first time using epoxy. By the time I got to the second half of the bottle I had learned a lot. This stuff produces the best finishes ever. I’m still struggling with how to do a top and a bottom without the other interfering with what you’ve already put on.

I found that I can send it and buff it to a semi-gloss finish. The smoothness is unbelievable. I just used it the other day repair my wife’s plastic bird bath feeder. I mixed in a little gold and black sparkles and it looks great.

I’ve used several brands of epoxy for small “river boards” and find this brand to be easy to work with and predictable. You must babysit the pour for an hour or so, as bubbles tend to show up just before the epoxy solidifies.

Takes powdered colorants well. In cooler weather it helps to pour the Part A into a container and then warm it in a water bath before adding the hardener. This helps a lot with mixing. Make sure you mix for several minutes, I mix for 3 1/2 minutes for every pour, regardless of the amount.

Have tried other products and this one is definitely more forgiving. I have made several pours on one long slab and even after sanding some, i make another pour and everything blends super well. Am currently working at about 90 degrees so the stuff really spreads and gets into all the cracks and sets up in a few hours to not be tacky.

Will be interesting to see how it works as winter comes. It really is CRYSTAL CLEAR and you can add coloring products and it looks really cool. Wood had a large bit of rot in it so cleared that out and made a ‘lagoon” out of it.
