20 Best Epoxy For Wood Countertops (2023 Updated)

I used to use lots of this resin for assembly when I was aeromodelling. This time I wanted an epoxy to cast in a thin layer on the bottom of garden bench legs to protect them from moisture. It isn’t a pouring resin, but thin enough to form a smooth layer perfectly and self-levelling too.

It worked a treat and the bench should last for many years. From past experience, it’s also a great adhesive for a multitude of materials. It’s easy to mix, not over-fussy about exact proportions and cures to a hard surface with no stickiness even in low temperatures.

A truly dependable resin with enormous strength.

Flows nicely. Perfect amount for hobbies. Nice dispensing arrangement. Depending on the surfuce it remains flexible. Don’t thin it, warm it up in a bath of hot water and it will be as thin as you need.

I place it in a plastic bag to preserve the labeling on the bottles.

Very strong glue, and easy to use. I used it to glue 4 x 70 mm thick oak planks together to make a panel 1 metre long x 85cm wide, for a carving. I glued each pair of boards separately. It was easy to mix and apply sufficient glue in the time before the glue began to set.

The joints are very strong. I wouldn’t use it where a longer open time is needed for multiple joint assembly etc.

Our school has tried many brands of resin. We created a project with EnviroTex a few weeks ago. The results were exactly according to the directions. We encourage reading all directions first. So often I take for granted that one resin is the same as the next and they are not created equal.

When EnviroTex discusses the use of “deep molds” pay particular attention to this area of the directions because most of the students did experience longer drying times for thicker project.

I love this product and have purchased it many times. I use it as a high gloss shield/protectant for collage pieces I create. I have also poured the product into molds to create 3 dimensional pieces.

Since air bubbles can occur, I use a lighter with an extended tip to smooth out the product. Once crafts have dried, the finish creates a hard shell which makes my collages far less likely to break or peel.

It is a wonderful product.

Disappointed in this epoxy. I purchased this to redo my bathroom countertop. Ive have worked with epoxy before and all turned out great. This one was very thick and after 3 days was still sticky in patches and not cured.

The smell is stronger than other kind of epoxy. I ended up purchasing another brand and redo all the hard work. Ugh. It may be ok for small tiny crafts.

My first experience with this product. I modified a base guitar , I made it fretles I filled the slots with rosewood Venire , the resin had no problem filling the slots. I made four layers due to some errors on my side , but it is very forgiven.

It sands very well. I buffed it with two kind of compounds (menzerna compounds)with 8 inch of cotton wheels. the colour of the maple and the rose wood came out so beautiful and the finish is glass like.

my wife was so impressed with my work. I can’t Waite to make other project with it.

I bought the finishing resin for my R/C boat kit project on the recommendation of the kit manufacturer. I used it on both inside and outside surfaces of the boat for sealing and waterproofing of the wood.

I also used it on the inside to adhere fiberglass cloth. I liked the product for its effect, but I felt it could have been a smidgen thinner to make spreading it over large surfaces a little easier. I settled on a technique of putting some at one end of a surface and using a wide plastic putty spreader to smear it from one end to the other.

It spread a long ways from a small amount applied at one end. It actually seemed to flow better after it had been “worked” a little, so overall, I didn’t waste much. On the inside surfaces, which were both curved and somewhat obstructed, I used a paintbrush with the bristles cut to about half length to spread the resin.

It did not come out as smooth as the putty-spreader method, but covered the surface. There was more buildup and some dripping due to the brush application. The working time was sufficient for doing a fairly large area.

I tried thinning a small batch with Acetone, which did make it flow onto the surfaces a little easier, but it became sticky very quickly as the Acetone evaporated and seemed to take longer to set. I wouldn’t recommend thinning it and would use it as is.

Mixing small batches would have been easier if the bottles were marked with ounces (a fairly large amount) or milliliters (ML), more precise. I used a gram scale and was as careful as I could be with the amounts, and I still ended up with some of one part left over when I finished the other part.

I don’t know if the two parts weigh the same or if one is slightly heavier, or if I just needed a more accurate scale. I would buy it again and actually have done so.

Allis good about this product if used sensibly and properly and used for the proper purpose. I have used this for over 30 years ?. I have some 30 minutes bought 25 years ago and still use it. If you have some and it has gone hard in bottle and think it is off.

just warm it up and it goes liquid again. Especially if it has been in a cold room.

I followed all the directions,suggestions and tips but found that when the penetrating epoxy had cured, i washed it, dried it, sanded with 320 in preparation for varnish,,, The epoxy left my piece splotchy (for lack of a better description).

This was used on red mahogany. The 1st piece (of 2 pieces) of this project i used only varnish, 5 coats ,sanding lightly in between, and it turned out to a very fine finish, no clouds or splotchy patches, practically perfect.

I decided for the 2nd piece I was going for a more weather resistant finish when I decided to use the penetrating epoxy step prior to varnish on the 2nd piece. Just using the epoxy and no varnish left me with a final finish that was too glassy and less than smooth.

When I tried sanding that. it left me with the cloudiness and splotchiness. It’s possible i did not do this correctly,,,but having followed all the instructions provided, which I read numerous times, I fail to see what I missed.

I’m at a loss in my attempt to add the epoxy prior to varnishing.

I called on the phone. The person that helped me answered my questions and gave some pointers. He was very patient. He explained when the product would get shipped (the next day since it was already late that same day) and when the product would arrive.

All that worked great. What really exceeded my expectations was the mixing sticks and mixing cups that were a very pleasant surprise. On the phone I mentioned that I would have to find a way to mix this product in the right ratio.

I am restoring a 1954 Glen L. Witt outboard runabout. All wood construction. The deck is plywood and I took it down to bare wood. Then I used penetrating epoxy (thinned 50/50 with acetone) to firm up and prepare for varnish.

The thinned epoxy penetrated deep into the plywood and the whole structure feels much stronger. I have now put on two coats of varnish (at least one more to come) and it looks fabulous.

Devcon 5 minute epoxy in a pair of 125ml bottles is a lot more convenient and much better value than tubes or syringes which leak and get messy. I drilled a 2mm hole in the top of each spout rather than cutting them off.

This allows a thin bead of each part before to be dispensed, allowing accurate assessment of the relative quantities for accurate mixing and the strongest possible joint. I tend to put the epoxy and hardener on to the faces to be bonded and mix them there, avoiding waste.

Having been using a variety of other epoxies recently, I was impressed how Devcon 5 minute really did set quickly and hard, rather than staying rubbery for ages like a lot of other 5 minute epoxies. A bit of gentle heat from a hot air gun or hair drier reduces the viscosity and wets it out across the surface nicely.

All in all, Devcon DV20945 5 minute is easy to use, with minimal mess, and gives an excellent bond.

If you need more than one or two small batches of epoxy, this is a good choice. The equivalent amount in the tiny syringes is 10 syringes (. 85oz/ea). that would cost about $50. This is $15. The epoxy seems good, at 6 minutes it is starting to kick.

I used it to glue down a 10 foot piece of flexible LED strip in a spiral, so only 4-6 inches could be done at one time. This worked well, and the epoxy holds well. Mix for 1-2 min, work for 2-3 minutes and clamp.

At 10 minutes, it’s set enough to remove the clamps and start the next mix.

My ‘go to’ adhesive. Reliable and simple to use, I have even used for small moulding tasks. Highly recommended and the larger the pack more economical to use. This is my fourth pack.

We decided to use the Countertop 880 over the Polyaspartic 745 because we are not fans of the gloss finish. We redid our kitchen in the farmhouse style and wanted a product that would keep the rustic, raw, natural look.

Although the 745 would have given us the best performance as far as being able to leave wine and lemon spills on the counters for extended amounts of time, we still decided to use the 880. Here are my thoughts after 6 months of applying the sealer.

1. Application is pretty easy and straightforward. Make sure there are no previous sealers or waxes on the countertops or make sure they are removed by sanding with a palm sander. The sealer itself is ready to use right out of the container so you did not need to do any sort of mixing.

You can literally just roll it right onto the countertops with a small roller or brush. Apply subsequent coats after the first coat while the first coat is still wet but dont allow the coats to pool or puddle, work them into the countertops.

It dries within a few hours and when we did the water drop test, the water seems to bead right away. Since we wanted some additional protection we used the Countertop Wax on top and that was one of the best decisions we made.

The wax does give a little sheen but it definitely gives you a little extra time to clean up spills. Lastly don’t expect the world out of this product. Yes, it repels water great and it also does a good job of resisting staining.

You just have to be diligient and clean up spills. You cacn leave them and expect the sealer and wax to repel them for more than a few minutes. But a few minutes is all you need to clean up a spill. Use cutting boards and don’t cut directly on the counters.

Also don’t use any citrus based cleaners as they tend to remove the wax. Other than that overall this was easy to apply and has held up good. I recommend and would buy again.

Product just pours out of the bottle, does what it claims, performs beautifully. I’ve used other Ghostshield products, they outperform their claims and I live in the desert with 115-degree sunshine which is a real test! Sealed my driveway, two patios, walkway and veranda.

This stuff wears like iron and looks great. Used Countertop 880 for outdoor kitchen poured concrete countertop and again it does what it says, protection and it’s invisible. Highly recommended.

Compared to other concrete countertop sealers I have used in my almost fifty years of construction, I would have to rate Ghostshield 880 at the top of the competition. I applied easily, wasn’t gummy or sticky like other products I have used, no noxious odors, penetrated well took the second coat easily and allowed me to apply the countertop wax the next day.

These products were used in my own residence and I’m very happy with the results. I am very impressed with the product line and look forward to using them on an upcoming large commercial project in the near future.
