20 Best Engine Stop Smoke Additive (2023 Updated)

Awesome product. My lawnmower was smoking. Put in about 1oz. Followed directions, and mo more smoke. Amazing.

I have a 1986 Dodge and when I got it it had black smoke every spring when I brought it out of storage. Now I change the oil and add this Bardahl product, which I have done for years. Tightens up the seals and I get zero smoke.

A bottle lasts four oil changes so it is a good value as well.

Used this on my higher mileage 2002 Nissan Altima with a rear main seal that’s slightly leaking and would also burn a bit of oil. It has worked perfectly I do not notice any oil spots on the garage floor anymore also the oil level barely has gone down since I have used this product.

Used the non stop leak version in another high mileage 1992 VW Jetta that is using oil and it has unfortunately not done anything. This product does not perform miracles on engines that are too far gone but it’s definitely worth a try.

I’ll definitely be using it again at next oil change on the Nissan!.

This is first time that I have used this product and I am genuinely amazed with it. It does exactly what it claims it does reduces smoke and noise while increasing the performance slightly. However I haven’t noticed any significant change in mpg but that’s no real disappointment as my vehicle is pretty good anyway.

My 2ltr HDi has over 202,000 registered miles. I will now use this every time that I change the oil and filter. Money well spent !.

This has had some effect on the amount of smoke from my engine but, given that my mileage is more than 265K, it has a lot to do! I intend to run it for a few months and repeat the treatment.

My old diesel was smoking quite bad,, added to warm engine and now there is a very big reduction in smoke and smell. So Id say did its job. Car is still a bit smoky at high revs but its an old diesel.

My 1987 Chevy Truck failed smog on the first try as a result of a visual inspection. Blue exhaust smoke was quite apparent. I added the entire contents (16oz) of the Bardahl No Smoke to the V8 engine.

Smaller engines take less additive. The product is very viscous like honey, so the directions want you to add it while the engine is idling. You have to be patient while the fluid slowly drains into the crankcase.

Afterwards I drove the pickup back to the SMOG test station, and the truck passed the second time with no problem. No blue smoke coming out the tailpipe! Thumbs up for this additive!.

Used this product to stop exhaust smoking when warm. Was a bit of a trial as i wasnt sure whether it was a fuel or oil problem i had. Within hours the smoke had stopped completely. It only lasted about a week though.

Nevertheless, it solved my fault. I changed the 5-20 oil for 15-40 and happy days. Prob worn rings or valve seals. Car runs perfect now so it was a good 20 spent to diagnose! Think old desiel engines need thicker oil as 5-20 is like water and gets through seals easier.

Very good additive, had a bad ticking sound in engine, took approximately 20 minutes and sound went away. Very happy with this product, would highly recommend this product

Just like all other lucas oil products red n tacky grease is out standing. It sticks in bearings and won’t just disappear in minutes like others. It’s is easy to pump and has superior protection for ware and crosion.

If your a construction company or a hobbies farmer this grease is for all , resumable price and exlent quality. You can’t go wrong try it against the grease you using now and you will see the difference.

We use a Semi Fluid Lubricant in our fire arms. The Lucas Red&Tacky 14oz tube will make enough semi fluid lube to last a battalion 10 years! The Lucas makes up 20% by volume of the final product and is the key to taking a viscous fluid to a stable semi fluid state.

The final product is pennies on the dollar and every bit as good if not better that the highest priced lubricants. Additionally we prefer the quality control that in house lubricant production provides finding that Lucas Oil products never fail to meet our needs or expectations.

I’ve noticed a big difference when I didn’t use this at all. Especially when starting the engine. After several years of using this, I went with one oil change with just 100% motor oil. I’ve noticed it takes just that much longer for it to turn over and start.

I’ll be using my normal 40% Lucas Synthetic/60% motor oil mixture from now on. It works!.

This product doesn’t increase your engine oil’s zinc levels. It REDUCES them, because it contains less zinc than today’s typical engine oils. It does, however, thicken your oil, which is effective at quieting lifter noise and makes people think it works.

DO NOT USE if you are trying to add zinc to oil for your flat-tappet engine. Use Rislone ZDDP (which contains lots of zinc), diesel oil, or engine break-in additive.

I added this product to my manual shift 2. 5i Impreza along with a quart of oil on a Saturday. The following Friday, my oil light flickered once or twice while climbing a hill and the engine started losing power.

Once I crested the hill, the motor died with a clunking sound and I coasted the corner store at he bottom. Towed car to the service station where it was pronounced dead on arrival. Once I returned home I noticed a lake of oil on my driveway where I parked the car overnight.

Coincidence? I don’t know. I know the car had issues but I hesitate to recommend the product.

Lucas Oil Complete Engine Treatment does what Seafoam does, only better. It is truly a Complete Engine Treatment. Prevents fuel from degrading while in storage. Old fuel can change chemically, becoming thicker and causing loads of problems in your engine.

Be proactive and add some Lucas Oil Complete Engine Treatment to the fuel, before long-term storage and then run the motor for 10 minutes or so to have it go through the injectors/carb passages. Once added, I like to slosh it around in the tank to mix it well, before running the motor.

In a car/truck, just drive it for 10 minutes. I use on older, higher mileage/hours engines to clean fuel lines, carburetor passages and throttle bodies, even fuel injectors. It removes harmful deposits on intake valves and piston heads.

Lucas 16 oz Complete Engine Treatment multi-system cleaner & lubricant for gasoline and diesel engines is supposed to clean, lubricate, the entire fuel system and internal engine parts. I prefer fuel additives with (PEA) before taking an emission test for cleaning the fuel injectors and catalytic converter, however my fuel gauge has been acting erratic so I tried Locus complete engine treatment (without PEA) can’t find the active ingredients beside showing no alcohol.

This Lucas additive cleans and lubricates the entire fuel system so no more slow rising or stuck fuel gauge and to me that’s 5 star product for not replacing the tank’s internal fuel sender unit. I’m not sure about the other claims.

I can’t tell the difference in performance or if it does stabilize fuel but it did fix my fuel gauge. Direction says to add 1 ounce per gallon of fuel. 1 ounce per quart of oil. I suggest adding to an almost empty fuel tank first before filling tank for better mixture.

22 year old Honda CRV needed a ring job/engine overhaul. That’s a very expensive job now a days. Used this product and checked the engine oil level every Saturday. This kept the smoke down and the oil consumption down as well.

Car has been still going strong for months while we look for a replacement. Most items like this are total BS, but this I can say has been worth every penny for us!.

This stuff works like magic. The piston rings on my Scion are worn causing the cat to burn oil. I put half a bottle of this stuff with every oil change and I’ve yet to have any issues. Until I rebuild the engine, this awesome elixir will be a part of my routine maintenance.

My 09 plate zafira had developed a serious oil burning issue. After a oil and filter change the situation hasn’t really improved, great clouds of oily smoke would appear form the exhaust under load. I tried this, first warming the bottle.

It’s taken almost a week and 50 miles or so to start working. There is still a small amount of smoke at a cold start but no more James Bind style smoke screens. Off course this product just thickens the vicousity of your oil and makes it more difficult to seep past stem seals and piston rings.

It’s a short term fix really, eventually a top end engine build may be required. However for the price it can’t be beaten. Just a final point, – it’s a good idea to run your engine or go for a drive after you’ve added this, it’s so thick it may else just go into the sump and not get pumped around.

I have used this in my transit connect 1. 8tdci and it worked well. Was getting blue smoke on start up, indicative of leaking valve stem oil seals allowing oil to seep into the cylinders. This product has put a stop to that and has improved cold running too.

I think people have been asking to much of this product reading some reviews. This stuff will mainly help with blue smoke which is oil being burnt in the cylinders due to leaking vale stem seals or worn piston rings.

If you are getting lots of blue smoke especially when the engine is warm when accelerating and cruising then its probably to far gone for this product. Its also not going to be much use for black smoke or white smoke as these are fuel/air related problems.

This stuff is also in a purple colored can now when you are looking for it on the shelf!.

Very effective in making the valve lifters run more quietly. There was some smoke but it all seems to have stopped now. But of course, this only masks symptoms of bigger problems which will eventually need to be addressed.

Very good product. It reduced the smoke from my Mini Cooper S due to worn valve seals. Before, you could see smoke on idle and a good size puff upon taking off. Now after 500 miles of driving with the product in the car, I can only see a very thin haze of smoke after extensive time idling.

Very inexpensive fix compared to replacing valve seals.

I got this in the hopes of silencing the ticking that my lifters were making in my 2006 Tahoe. I put it in and didn’t notice a dramatic change right away, but a few hundred miles further it seems to have done the trick.

Before putting it in, I would get the lifters to start ticking whenever I’d idle for more than about a minute. Last night, we sat in line for gas at Costco for a million years and I didn’t hear the lifters at all.

Seems to have really helped.

Bought this to reduce Tappet noise. Tried it but it didnt work. Sound still remains. It could be physical issue with engine so cannot comment completely on the capability of this product. Unfortunately I had to import this from US to Malaysia which cost a lot.

Hoped to save money without a rebuild but looks like a rebuild is needed.

I”ve used Rislone for several years now. Just turned 250,000 miles on my everyday work vehicle. Wouldn’t hesitate to jump in it tomorrow and head to California. Didn’t discover this product until that vehicle had a little over 100,000 miles.

Eliminated all knocks and pings immediately. Almost entirely eliminated oil consumption. Highly recommend this product. I add it to all my vehicles after every oil change now.

Easy to pour in with synthetic or conventional engine oil, works great for breaking in rebuilt engines with flat tappet cam shafts. I use it every oil change because oil does not have the zinc additive for these older engines anymore and protection for cam and lifter seating and performance has gone down without it.

Do not use on vehicles with Catalytic converters unless just breaking in the engine.

It’s supposed to be good stuff. Ran it about 500 miles with non-detergent oil. Too bad Autozone doesn’t have break in oil. Or non-detergent. So I had to make several stops. But it seems to work. Motor runs good.

I’m on regular oil now.

I bought this to supplement my engine oil for my flat-tappet cam install. I’ve bought this stuff three times since. My cam is still living. Appears to be doing what it supposed to.

Several years ago, a diesel mechanic noticed I had a small oil leak along a gasket on the underside of my Cummins engine. He recommended Lucas Oil Stabilizer with each oil changes and I have been doing that for several years.

The modest leak has not gotten any worse so maybe it helped.

I always add Lucas treatment during regular oil change. It provides smooth engine, lesser noise and takes good care of wear and tear losses in engine. It also improves car pickup. I highly recommend this product.

It slowed the leak, I’m OCD, but i was ok. But after I put 300 continuous miles on it, it seems to have disappeared completely. So, when you read the multiple reviews telling you to put miles on it. LISTEN! I would definitely try this with a fresh Mobil1 Oil change and filter and then add Lucas Oil Stop Leak before busting a “grand” for god knows whatever repair they tell you that you will need.

In this case it was a 17 year mint suburban, not a race car. Worth it!.

I thought the car was going to start acting funny but nope! Started up as normal and actually performed a little better than usual. I have a small oil leak on one of the hoses. It has definitely slowed.

and I only put around 65% of the solution in there. I’m sure it will only get better once I add the rest. Great stuff here. However, it’s not a permanent solution. Try to get the car fixed or traded out within 1-3 months unless you’ll have to keep adding.

I have a collectible vehicle that was leaking oil from the rear main seal. It is a 1978 Mustang with a 302 engine. Before considering the expense and logistics of having the engine resealed, I decided to give a try to this product for the first time ever.

I added the entire contents during the oil and filter change. Quite surprisingly, it´s been 3 days and not a single drop of oil has appeared on the floor. I am still skeptical but will definitely keep monitoring for leaks.

most likely the main seal. Mechanic said huge job to fix just use the Lucas product however when I looked on the shelf there were others that bragged about stopping a leak (the Lucas stabilizer does not mention stopping leaks!) so I tried two different ones to no avail.

Eventually I used almost 2 bottles (20% mix) and waited sceptically. Slowly the oil loss was less and less. It took a few months for me to remove the drip tray. What great stuff! Now use in all of my 3 old cars every oil change.

They run quieter and smoother too. Put some in my noisy air compressor and wow what difference!.

I put a bottle through the trans dip stick, following the directions and making sure not to overfill. Cycling the gears, then a light test drive and nothing happened, for about a km. Instead of an easy shift what I ended up with was a whole pile of neutrals.

Truck no move now. Ok, I’ll give these guys the benefit of the doubt. Maybe the Trans fluid was just too far gone and needed to be changed. So I picked up a trans pan gasket/filter and a pile of new transf fluid and go to work changing the oil.

Now the oil did need changing, was well used and I was assuming this doesn’t work so well with worn oil. Some reviews suggest that it doesn’t. Fast forward a week later (maybe 10km on now oil), fresh ATF oil and an opportunity.

The bottle says it can help blah, blah blah. I used another bottle, also following directions and monitoring the fill level. New oil and should be no issues. Cycled the gears a bunch of times, and took for a light test drive.

Lone behold, 5 neutrals after about few hundred yards. Can’t tell you what the issue is, but my two pennies are that you should avoid this stuff and look elsewhere for a trans additive. I think SeaFoam has one that would work better.

I’ve been getting more and more ceramic or graphene products for my vehicle and just happened to be walking by while leaving AutoZone when this bottle caught my eye. After reading it I was a bit unsure about it but compared to everything else nearby it was the only “ceramic” one and since I’ve had great success with all the other ceramic/graphene products figured I’d give it a try.

I added it in between oil changes and noticed almost instantly my engine was quieter. even going uphill which usually it would click-click-click away trying to work hard it was now almost dead quiet.

I also noticed way smoother performance, longer coasting times and less engine use in general. I’m very impressed, I actually bought another can for my mom’s vehicle the next day and she noticed similar improvements.

Her vehicle was also making weird knocking noises and after adding this product boom quiet as a mouse. I recently got my oil changed and have still noticed my engine being quiet and smooth, but I’ll probably buy another can or two for reserve or to give out to friends.

I’m curious to see if it will last the “15,000 miles” advertised but can’t beat the improvements for the price.

So combined with Amsoil I experienced much reduced engine operating sound, the rattle of valves etc, purrs more cleanly. On my 2016 Mazda CX-9 avg improved from 19. 4 mpg to 20. 5 mpg & my 2015 GTi 29.

4 to 40. 6 mpg. Power is smoother, but I think the other benefits are paying out. By itself I doubt it’d wow every buyer, and I suggest it be used with a long life synthetic oil to optimize the effect.

Any leaking engine should avoid it til it is resolved, but worn engines can love it. Works quickly, but takes couple tanks to see really. Avoid this if your looking for big results, this is a smidge over long periods.

Starting using STP Ceramic Oil Treatment in my Screaming Eagle Harley, I noticed 2yrs ago in the extreme heat in Florida, my oil pressure would drop a little in a 8+ hour ride. Been using STP Ceramic Oil Treatment last 2 changes, taken note of oil pressure at various rpm’s.

My oil pressure stays the same throughout the day at the same compared rpm ranges.

So let me say right off the bat that I am not actually sure if this stuff works the way it says or not. BUT, everything I have used from Lucas(like transmission stop slip or power steering fluid) has helped my vehicles noticeably.

So based on that, I would expect everything from them to do what they say they do. I have only used this stuff a couple of times, since I usually use the pure synthetic stabilizer. I put it in during the oil change.

Once I drain the oil out, I put a bottle if this in and then top the rest off with full synthetic oil. I recently bought a 115k mile 2006 trailblazer and changed the oil shortly after buying it(always do this unless you know for sure it was changed recently).

So honestly, since its something that you probably wouldn’t notice a different whether you put it in your oil or not, its hard to say whether it works or not. But like I said, the transmission stuff definitely helped all 3 vehicles I put it in, and the power steering fluid quieted my pump down on a vehicle that the pump stayed loud with new fluid from other brands.

So based on those working like they should, id imagine this stuff is also helping. No way to actually tell unless you could cut open your engine while it’s running tho.

I drive a 2006 Subraru Forrester 2. 5 – It’s currently at 160,000 miles. I purchased this at Walmart for $16 and some change. Brought it with me to my mechanic (trusted old family friend) for my next oil change.

He was happy to include it at no extra charge** more about this below. I instantly noticed a difference after the first drive. No clicking or crackling noises after start up. I got out after driving a few miles down the road to listen for myself.

The engine was purring beautifully. I couldnt believe how nice and lubed up everything sounded. If you take care of your cars, they will take car of you. Definitely a great booster to add to your high mileage vehicle during an oil change! I will be trying Lucas Oil’s Fuel Stabalizer next !! ** No mechanic should really give you a hard time about bringing your own.

By adding it in, they use less oil than standard so its saving them money afterall.

on all my cars with higher miles if they are burning a little oil this will stop or slow it down. it will add more miles to your engine. most engines after 125k start to burn a little oil this will help in slowing or stopping that.

in my experience every car I have put this in I have seen oil burning reduce or be eliminated all together. best to replace a quart of regular oil with this during an oil change. but if you are running a quart low add this to reduce engine wear and stop/slow oil burning.

I have a very bad habit of getting bored of a vehicle and selling and replacing so I have used it on many cars.

I’ve been using Prolong for my engines and transmissions, gas and diesel, for almost 25 years! It’s the only additive I’d ever use. It has no particles just a pure, most slippery metal penetrating substance.

My old Volvo has over 300,000 miles and it still runs like a Swiss watch and neither engine or transmission has ever been touched. It’s great for the seals also with never any start up smoke! All my vehicles have always experienced great if not greater gas mileage due to the substantial reduction of metal to metal friction.

This product, Prolong, stopped the clicking in the lifters at start up. I could always hear the lifters clattering when the engine was started cold. The clicking would last for about 15 seconds then fade away as the oil pressure increases in the valve train.

After 2 days I found that the clattering was much quieter and actually stopped in about 5 seconds after start up. Great Stuff! Use it you won’t be sorry!.
