20 Best Engine For Ford F150 (2023 Updated)

Immediately after install without any tuning my truck accelerates quicker. It also seems to eliminate any delay when the truck switches gears. The quality is outstanding. It feels like a better fit than the factory.

The mounts are perfect and for my 2. 7L it actually gives something to look at in the engine bay. I have a 2. 5 inch level and it fit, HOWEVER be warned, if you have a bigger lift I don’t think this will fit.

It is a MASSIVE housing compared to factory. I can definitely hear a difference in my engine. I have stock exhaust, however when getting up to speed you notice a much more lively sound. The rubber scoop neck is also much larger for the intake than the rest.

I have noticed a massive difference in airflow and more power. My truck also is able to stay at lower rpms at speed and my gas mileage went up by about 2 mpg. The only thing I don’t like is the clear plexiglass cover for the housing is shipped in a protective tape.

The adhesive stayed on mine no matter what product I soaked it in. I also used the softest microfiber I have and it still made it foggy and scratched it. I know it’s a small complaint but I feel it takes away from the intake slightly.

All and all I love this product. If you go on their site can order there oil kit for 29. 99. It arrived in 3 days no extra charge.

Never installed a CAI before and it only took me an hour & a beer. The hardest part is taking out the factory OEM air filter. To save whoever is reading this a few minutes, the factory bottom mount bracket (after taking out support bolts on the engine bay side) just pops out.

I spent a few minutes looking around trying to figure out what was keeping it secured in the bottom before I just pulled it up on one side. The connection hose for the breather tube takes a bit of finagling to make sure it isn’t kinked – a bit of turning & mild coercion makes it seat without problems.

The OEM tubes with the push clips that have angled turning points would have been a lot easier to connect had it just allowed for it and I wouldn’t have needed the tubes they included. Another inconvenient thing was putting the gasket around the top see-through plastic piece.

That took the most time dealing with anything with the S&B CAI install outside of removing the OEM air intake. I’d you’re mechanically inclined and have already done a CAI swap, this would definitely only take half an hour depending on how long it takes you to to get the seal on the top piece.

What’s not to like about this cold air intake. The install was very easy and I had it on in about 40 mins. I took it for about a 20 mile test drive in city, highway, and I could instantly feel the difference in response and sound.

This really woke my Hemi up! I had previously swapped the muffler with a MBRP high flow, and deleted the rear resonators and replaced with Flowmaster pipe and Black tips. Combined with my exhaust upgrades, this COI really completes the package.

I pondered for months on which one to get, but kept coming back to this one. I went with the oiled filter and it is huge! I also love the clear cover so you can check the filter condition without removing a cover.

The inlet tube from the box to the throttle body is also considerably bigger. It all tucks in nicely under the hood. I am glad with my choice, and am happy with the performance. Now to keep an eye on my fuel usage and see if there is any mpg gain.

I am under no illusion that if I put my foot into it to enjoy the performance gain, but with gas prices approaching $5 a gallon, I’m going easy on the throttle to save $$. We’ll see how the mpg side of things plays out.

First off. Disable your engine air filter sensor. It it not indicated in the video which is now a constant annoyance on startup. I get a check filter light and red letter warning for the air filter. Other install videos of different j takes tell you to disable the feature and take off neutral from battery.

But it was an easy install. Some of the way the video explained to remove the old system ended up breaking clips so be a little more careful than the guy states. Good thing I won’t reinstall old air box.

Immediately sounds like a v8 not that quiet muffled barely there factory noise. Fuel economy seems to have improved. I do city driving and was around 14mpg and now I’m around 15. 7.

Installed the K&N AirCharger and am happy with the results. Not only has the HP and torque increased but the gas mileage has also if I could just keep my foot outta the throttle. But it feels so good to have the increase over stock without having to do a full on tune.

This combined with the exhaust really brought this truck around. The install is straight forward and took less than an hour. The only thing not covered on the instructions is you will have to remove the bolt on the fender (look at the photo I have included) so that the bottom will seat properly.

After you get it seated reinstall the bolt. The ear on the body of the aircharger cannot clear the bolt so it can seat properly. I am sure you will like the increase in performance and gas mileage. I highly recommend this product for ease of install and quality.

Great horsepower gain for a simple install. Decided to pair it with a set of BBK headers which haven’t arrived yet. Noticeable gain on its own. Screams at 3500-6000 RPMs. I would say the install video is worthless, very outdated.

Skip the video and follow the simple instructions. Well worth the time and money invested in this product. Would definitely recommend.

I did a ton of research to find the perfect exhaust for my truck. *NOTE* I paired my Roush exhaust with a JLT Performance Cold Air Intake (That I previously installed before I bought the Roush). Amongst searching, I narrowed my choices to an MBRP kit and the Roush.

I was looking for a deeper tone and these two fit that category. But I ended up biting the bullet and paid the extra $500 for the Roush system Vs. MBRP. For what you get though, it is totally worth it.

The quality of the stainless used is exactly what I need for my winter driving in Michigan, and the black tips pair great with my Ingot Silver paint and my other smoked out features on the truck. And none of the videos I watched did justice to what it actually sounds like after install.

Much deeper tone (intake more than likely has something to do with that also) All in all I’m totally satisfied with this purchase. For install time I selected afternoon, but it only two approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours max.

Very happy with this exhaust system. I had my local Ford dealership install it and that took a 3-4 hours. They had to cut down the pipe to fit and make a few other small adjustments. All in all I’m liking this addition to go with the Roush cold air intake on my 2020 F-150.

The increased throttle response and horse power are definitely noticeable. FYI: In my opinion the amount of cabin drone you will hear after installing this is fairly substantial. So much so that I’m kind of having to get use to it and actually considering looking into soundproofing the cab.

But, I also enjoyed how quiet it was with the stock system. Probably going to give it a few months first though.

You will enjoy this exhaust system. The sound is near perfect & not to loud. I would not consider this exhaust system to be in the (to-loud/very-loud) category. Tones are deep and not overly raspy. Drone is very minimal and not an issue at all.

If your on the fence about purchasing an aggressive exhaust system like this, just do it! You will not regret purchasing this system. The quality of this system is spot-on. Installation was very straight forward.

I was able to remove my old exhaust system components and complete the new exhaust system installation all in 45 minutes start to finish. The use of penetrating oil is necessary for ease of old-component removal.

Please don’t use PB Blaster. Kroil is the way to go for your penetration oil needs. Please use Kroil on all needed components prior to old system removal. Make sure to also spray the factory hangers.

By the way, the side exit is nice looking. I would highly recommend this system. I like how this system utilized the factory rubber hangers. —-The following are a few things that I did from my installation: 1: I would recommend making one cut right behind your old factory muffler to ease the removal process.

(Cut the old exhaust pipe completely in-two right behind the old factory muffler). 2: I would also start at the complete rear of the vehicle first and then work my way forward with the installation of the new system components.

Make sure vehicle is sitting on the ground while your adding the additional rear exhaust hanger. Slide the new hanger vertical (up position) as much as possible before tightening. 3: Properly position the over-the-axel pipe in the center of the axel tube (this will aid in clearance during suspension travel).

4: Get all other components in proper position (starting at the rear of the vehicle first), before mocking-up and marking the cut position on the mid-length pipe. (Mid-pipe will be to long to accommodate all other wheel base lengths) mid-pipe must be cut to length.

Make sure to remove sharp edges after cutting. An 4 1/2” grinder with cutting disc maybe used. An 80 grit flap disc sanding/grinding pad made be use to smooth edges after cutting. Be very steady while cutting.

This was my first “under the hood” mod. Super easy install and fitment was perfect. Took me an hour because I took my time from start (removal of OEM CAI) to finish. Revving the engine with the hood up, I immediately noticed the difference in volume- the “swoosh” of air with each throttle up really sounded amazing and still does! If you happen to put your truck in sport mode, and go WOT, you really hear the air- the swooshes and whistles from the side vents.

I can’t say I noticed any real HP gain- BUT my truck has a 3″ RC lift w/ 34″ tires. So my overall gains are most likely masked by my setup. This CAI is not a bad purchase, but for me to not really see the full potential is most likely NOT worth the $400+ asking price.

I like the ROUSH name, I like their history and that’s why I bought it- but I probably would be just fine had I kept the OEM in. Everyone’s situation is different though. I just added a Borla S Type Exhaust (dual rear exit) and I think that coupled with the CAI has turned my 2.

7L into a BIG BOY truck haha.

Easily installed on my 19′ STX 2. 7L Ecoboost. Haven’t really had it installed long enough to see any benefit, but I’m sure it’s there. Definitely sounds good. Easy to install using the provided video.

On a separate but unrelated note, really annoyed that American Trucks doesn’t have a real military discount policy– which I also learned cannot be applied retroactively to recent purchases and can only be applied when you call in and order your items directly.

This is 2021–who calls to order anything, esp. car parts these days?. this policy is really UN-American and poorly advertised. Might as well say that you don’t have a military discount.

For sure noticed a difference in sound around the 2k mark revving it up! Hopefully even better when I install a new cat back! Not much performance difference which was expected but the look is bada$$ and feels great! Install was pretty easy with the video.

I feel like it could have been done better but there was others out there that answered my dilemmas installing it. Took me little over an hour to do it. I accidentally overtightened the sensor holder screw.

Very easy to do even with a manual screwdriver so be careful! But they provided extra clip in zip ties. Will just have to keep an eye on it to make sure the zip tie doesn’t disintegrate over time. The seal for the filter part seems kinda flimsy and loose even when I put the tube to the engine on I had to reinstall it because it didn’t seem right.

Might have just been me worrying too much though.

The instructions were confusing. The filter needs to go in the box BEFORE the tube from the throttle body. And, the rubber seal around the sight glass isn’t long enough, and was a pain to keep it all on trying to get it on the box.

Sound quality is the same as stock in normal driving. Just a little bit louder than stock when you get on it. Haven’t driven the vehicle enough to tell if the fuel mileage is any better, but I’m filling it up today, so this tank will tell me.

I’m only giving it 4 stars, because of the confusing instructions, not long enough rubber seal for the clear plastic piece, and it being a pain to keep together to get it mounted, and the fact that I haven’t driven it enough to tell if there’s any difference.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with the intake, it functions as it should (hence the 5 star review). However if you’re looking to make more power without doing anything else to the truck to make it *want* more air, I would look elsewhere.

Mine was missing the coupler for the passenger side turbo, but that’s not a big deal. I found a coupler that would work for the time being and AT is sending out the proper one. Fit and finish was great and it was extremely simple to put on.

If you can pull the OEM one off, you can put this one on. Literally took me 45 minutes or less from start to finish. I really wanted to be wrong about all the hype surrounding CAI and the increased power and “throttle response.

” But, as I expected it makes absolutely no discernible difference from the factory air box. None at all, not in any way shape or form. Maybe a little more noise? But I think that can be chalked up to me listening for more noise while before I paid little to no attention.

The CAI took about 90 minutes to install along with an Airaid throttle spacer, and Jet Mass Air Flow Sensor. A great improvement to the look of the 5. 4 Triton V8. There didn’t seem to be a difference at an idle, but once on the road, there was a good deal of improvement in acceleration and sound.

Then on the highway is where the improvement in performance and gas mileage really stood out. There was an improvement in acceleration lag, still there, but better. Acceleration was vastly improved, The sound was throaty and turbo-like.

If the gas mileage indicator is accurate it went from 12 and 13 to 15 and 16 miles per gallon. I am very satisfied so far. A great and fun improvement in performance for my 2007 Ford F=150 Harley Davidson Edition!! I look forward to my next mod.

I had this on my 2019 5. 7L hemi big horn which was hit by lightning. I took intake off and knew I would get another ram and put it on. I was concerned with my new 2022 Laramie that had E-Torque because on the fitment it says 5.

7L hemi except E-Torque. It seems the plug off the E-torque gets in the way, didn’t take more than a wiggle to sneak past and get everything right. Started right up and gives better throttle response and bass behind engine when getting on the gas.

I also have the flowmaster outlaw direct fit muffler to put in as I loved the combo on my big horn. Definitely a great looking upgrade for under the hood as well with the shiny chrome. If your nervous about the not fitment of the E-Torque I’m her to tell you it’s just as easy as non E-torque and fits great!.

I have always used K&N on all my vehicles. Very easy install and for sure, gives your engine bay a makeover. I’m riding the 2016 1500 with the 3. 6L, so I knew that I wanted to wake up that quiet engine.

Gave noticeable increased throttle response, nicer sound and definitely a little more power. Haven’t really checked the MPG’s yet, but usually I get 2-3 MPG better with this type of intake. Came with simple instructions and everything was packaged well.

I chose to take out all the stock intake parts the night just to make the install simpler once it arrived in the mail. Total install 25 minutes.

The sound these make at idle is beautiful 🤩. I mean come on who doesn’t want to sound like old muscle car. Took about 11 hrs for someone first time installing cams. I’m very happy with results! Now I just need Ford racing throttle body to be full bolt on.

Already got cai, Ford racing intake manifold, longtubes, hpipe, over axle pipes, outlaws axle backs, 34lbs Injectors for e85 conversion. It’s soo loud I love it, chop chop chop. tools/items to get before hand, that you might not have for install.

wedge tool, pair of phaser bolts (one time use), valve gasket, comp cam lube, gasket maker, torque wrench that reads inch lbs (I got Quinn digital torque wrench it worked great). You don’t need valve spring compressor tool, just be careful to not knock off one of the rollers with ya fingers.

If you do no biggie you can move it back. I pair these with Ford racing blue valve covers and they look amazing. It was a thrill to do this solo, great experience. I’ve always wanted to do cams and finally today was the day.

Excellent Item. I am super happy with the sound of my S197 and the performance gains noticed with 93 Bama tune. I did infact lose low end torque but I gain what I’ve lost plus some right around 3500+ RPM.

I recommend 4. 10 gears to compensate as well as a set of new rockers if you have some decent millage. But that’s just my opinion and is not required. Regardless you won’t be disappointed with this product the first time you go to start up your mustang.

I get allot of heads turned and asked if I’m running stage 3 cams, that’s how pronounced they are.

After installing the camshafts, the car wouldn’t start. The timing was out, as my son hastily removed the timing chain wedge before I could guide him. The entire timing chain cover had to be removed, to set the timing to factory specs, thank god the timing chains have black links to make this job pretty easy.

Once all timing was set, carefully put everything back together, and same issue, car cranks but won’t start. Talked the AM chat guy, who wasn’t very helpful, other than to say “go talk to a speed shop”.

Which I did, and after showing them the pics of the job, very detailed, they said it’s an electrical issue, and could be a sensor or bad connector (shorted or pin pushed in) car has been sitting every since.

Not sure what to say, but can’t say I’m happy about the purchase at this point. It’s been almost 3 weeks, and many cruise nights, Mustang club gatherings, and outings I’ve had to sit out of. Definitely will think twice before getting into a 3/3 job, even though the 3 different mechanics I talked to all said “the job we did is perfect” not sure why it won’t start.

New AFE Momentum GT intake is sleek and designed for maximum air flow. Now it has an excellent induction sound. Sounds like you are sucking in a roaring lion at full throttle. Took me around a half hour to install from start to finish.

The stock intake was so bulky and unnecessary. The Mass Airflow Sensor installed perfectly as well. Did a lot of research looking at many different styles of intakes and this one had the best look to me, others looked cheaply made and flimsy.

I’m very satisfied with this purchase.

I was looking for a quick way to add a little power and this was it. First off – I ordered on Sunday and it was delivered on Wednesday, can’t beat it. I decided I was going to install this myself – it took me about 2 hours but only because I have never worked on trucks before.

The install is pretty simply , the only part that sucks is everything under the hood is plastic so it is easy to crack the wire harnesses or the MAF sensor. I made one mistake where the instructions tell you to snap off the tie wrap holding the wire harness – I thought it meant to cut the FACTORY wraps ( which I did ) only to realize later I was supposed to pull it out of the factory intake , not cut it.

So my harness is currently tie wrapped to the new intake but I don’t see it being a huge issue. As far as performance- I definitely notice a difference. It gives my truck a great sound especially when you find that sweet spot in your RPMs.

Definitely notice a difference with throttle response as well. I would recommend this if you are looking for a simple mod to give you a little more power.

I can’t speak for other years, but for the 2018, you DO NOT REMOVE the metal plate that is under the resonator filter box as the install video suggests. That’s EXACTLY where the 3 prongs at the bottom of the AFE filter box sits into perfectly.

You remove that and it’s floating in space and not getting a seal up against the sidewall. I also think it’s easier NOT to marry the box to the tube until the box is in the engine bay. Otherwise it’s a pain the get past a few wire harnesses.

Other than that, Pretty easy install. I love the way it sounds. It’s throaty as hell even with very little throttle. As far as MPG improvement, I cannot tell because I can’t get off the throttle for the great sound??.

I’ll update on a few weeks when I try to drive normal.

Got mine relatively quickly. The quality is superb used AFE products before and they have always been top quality. I love the fact they provide dyno sheets to provide hp and tq gains. Cannot confirm if I did gain 20 ft lbs of torque or 19hp as the company states since I have yet to take it to a dyno.

The butt dyno however says its got more power, the noise is definitely addicting. The trucks are speed density based, so they do not have a MAF. I went with the oiled option, gives you a bit more flow and filtration but extra step in maintenance when it comes time to cleaning with the reoiling, not a huge deal.

Well worth the upgrade!.

I was looking for a while to find a decent review on this intake. So here it is, sweet and simple. It will make your truck louder and cleaner. I have a Flowmaster Outlaw Direct Fit Muffler and it definitely made it much cleaner.

The sound volume increased just a tad bit but make sure you understand I already have a $400 exhaust modification done. So yours should be much louder. Anyway, the torque was definitely increased, and for those of you who are new to this.

that means pedal responsiveness. The gas mileage just a small difference but I also have bigger/more aggressive tires. All in all a great buy and I’d honestly recommend it 100%. No downsides, just gains.

17 March 2021 – finally installed this CAI tonight and I’m honestly impressed. Bought it for my 2013 Ford F150 3. 5 V6 Eco Boost. I watched some YouTube installation videos and it was rather fast to install (took me by myself just under 2 hours but it you have the tools ready beforehand it would be faster).

I’m in no way mechanically inclined at all and it was a breeze to do it myself. If the instructions are hard for you to read, AFE has a colorized PDF on their website. Bummer the lid doesn’t come with it as its sold as an accessory which I bought and I should have that delivered tomorrow.

My only concern was; with the factory box and intake installed, I get between 19. 2 – 22 MPG depending on whether and road conditions and I didn’t want to take a hit on my mpg due to driving roughly 76 miles a day to and from work.

My friends did recommend I disconnect the battery (isn’t stated in the instructions and not completely sure if it’s necessary) while installing this, which I did, to help the computer recognize the new airflow.

I drove for about 30 miles after installation and I got: no check engine light and towards the end of my drive, I hit 19. 2MPG. I have a feeling after my work week when this levels off I should be getting comparable, if not more in fuel economy.

I’ll post updates if anything changes but currently no issues and I’m very impressed with the new turbo whistles/sounds. Heads up, you may need to add a little oil to the O-ring on the sensor as it’s a very tight fit.
