20 Best Energy Saving Window Film (2023 Updated)

This film is perfect for distorting the view, like the glass next to the front door. And actually it’s not glass, it’s Lexan! You can still see that people are out there and they can see a distorted version of you.

During the day, the sun hits the window and there are rainbow colors all over the living room. It’s very pretty. When we first bought this, we cut one piece that would fit the window perfectly. We weren’t sure what the dogs would do or how well it would hold or stick to the Lexan so we took the scrapes and pieced it to the window.

It’s been 6 months and the pieced together film is still firmly on the window. The dogs jump on it (and we have 2 labs) every time we come home and it stays in tack. You also can even tell it’s in pieces.

So when the time comes to replace it, we have one full piece ready to go!.

When I ordered these no-glue 3D Window Films, I thought they’d look cheesy. Was I wrong! They went up fairly easily and they really do appear like stained glass windows. I think many people are stunned to first see them.

Even up close, you really think they’re real. From outside, they look just like the real thing. Plus, they do help keep out the sun’s rays that can fade a western facing sun. One unknown product, that turned out to be even better than it’s claims.

They also went up easily. Very good product! 5 stars!.

The product is very good quality. Very pretty on my front door. I had windows on my front door that allowed people to see up stairs into my bathroom. Now they can’t see unless they put their faces right on the windows and then its hard to make out what they are looking at.

The light is still able to shine through. I love it.

This product is great quality! Definitely have a straight knife or box cutter when trimming film along window. I used a credit card between the knife and window to get a clean straight line. Plenty of water helps with positioning.

Make sure to use a squeegee or a towel between the credit card and film so you don’t scratch it. You can’t see inside during daylight and once it gets pretty dark out you can start to see inside just as the description says.

We had a door to a patio which let in too much sun and was contributing to that area becoming unnecessarily hot during the day. Blind and shutters are expensive and annoying. This worked perfectly to still let in some light, but keeps our office significantly cooler.

Side note. I’ve had it on the door for a few months now and it is still fine, even with little kids running in and out the door all day. Cleans up easily just like you would with glass.

I stumbled across these while looking at curtains online. I thought it would be good to use on the bathroom window. I liked that it is a cling, not a sticker (would be a real pain to remove!). They look like a real frosted window.

Easy enough to apply. There is a backing to remove. I followed the instructions and had no problems. I didn’t need to spritz the window with water – it stuck very well. I cut it an inch or so larger than needed and then “stuck” to the window and used a pencil to draw a line at the glass edge.

Then was easily able to use scissors to make a straight cut. Very happy with this. It covered two regular size windows (bottom half only). There is still a chunk left over. Nice for privacy yet letting sunlight in.

I have a cabinet that has glass doors and it’s full of “stuff” that I was tired of looking at so I decided to try this film to make the doors opaque. It’s perfect! I was so easy to apply – I followed the directions even though I couldn’t figure out how it would stick after the water dried but it did.

It’s been on for several weeks now and absolutely no lifting. It was easy to position – I could slide it a bit back and forth to get it in the exact spot I wanted to and I think the cabinet looks quite nice.

I can see “shadows” of the stuff inside but it’s exactly how I wanted it.

This film was so easy to apply. I’ll admit I was intimidated at first, and put off my project. The instructions were clear and precise. I was worried about creases. But using the spray bottle ‘ironed’ out any wrinkles.

The roll is pretty long. I had a ton left over. I used the film on a fireplace (non functioning) to create some privacy for my bedroom. Great price for the amount you get.

Led by the positive reviews of this product, I confidently bought this film, hoping to add some privacy to our bathroom, that is overlooked by neighbours. In natural daylight, it does indeed obscure what’s in the bathroom and you can only see rough outlines of people.

Unfortunately, once the bathroom light is on in the evenings, you can see very clearly through it. Let’s just say, I won’t be getting out of the bath or going to the toilet without our additional blind being pulled down! Shame it’s only half way there as a product.

Putting it up was easy though!.

I wanted to partially cover a shower screen (descaler left on too long had effectively acid-etched water marks). Instructions were nice and simple. The backing paper has gridlines making it easy to trim.

The surface needs to be clean and free from grease. I cleaned with washing up liquid to remove any grease too. Applying it was really easy, even with a large piece, doing it alone, and not able to stand directly in front of the screen due to the bath’s position.

The static makes it cling. If it clings before you’ve lined it up, just pull back and it comes off, then re-position. You could repeat this time and again until you get it lined up. Once in position use a squeegee to push any bubbles out (or a credit card does the job too).

Now my perfectly clean bathroom will look just that, perfectly clean.

Our bedroom windows face onto a busy road and I researched window film as an alternative to net curtains or blinds. Window film is really expensive from specialist places online so we thought we’d give this a go even though I originally wanted something with a nice frosted glass effect pattern.

We’re delighted with it – it gives much more privacy than I imagined it would. We even tried having the lights on, curtains open and looking in from outside. Unless a person is standing right up close to the window you can’t make out much at all.

Best way I can describe it is everything becomes really pixellated. Looks fine too – not that noticable from outside and fine inside. You can’t see through it properly from inside (unlike nets for example) but we only have it on the bottom half of our windows so suits us.

Really cost efficient privacy!.

This is my first time experience with this product. I used 6 rolls to cover up sliding glass patio doors and a large panel window. Other than barely visible seams and some very small edge bubbles it worked excellently.

One thing to mention is that I used a spray bottle of water and was very liberal with its use on both sides of the film (like half the large spray bottle for each 6 ft piece). A dustpan’s rubber edge served well as a squeegee and a drivers license followed for a final pass.

It was reasonably easy to put up (whole job took about 2 hours) and when it dries it looks great and allows light in but is very opaque/hard to see through. Also you can only see imperfections if you’re about 6 inches away and from any further it looks like a frosted glass panel.

Very pleased with this window film.

I ordered this item for the sidelight next to the front door. It does a great job clinging and installation was a breeze. However, it’s a bit too opaque. I guess I was expecting such a transparency where you can make out the outline of a person from the window but not see clearly.

You can’t see anything through this window. It does let light it, I was just expecting it to let more light in.

I really like the way these turned out. You definitely need a lot of water, a straight edge, and some patience, but these turned out great. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because it’s not as opaque as it appears in the photos.

I used it on my kitchen cupboards and now I just see a blurry version of my cupboard contents.

I have bought this brand of window film before and was pleased this time as before. The instructions are clear and straight-forward. The film itself goes up nicely and looks great. My favourite feature is that it’s a static-cling film, so it can be removed easily without a gooey, sticker residue being left on the window (like some window films).

This gave me the privacy I was looking for in one of my windows at a fraction of the cost of having it done professionally. A couple things to note: 1) Cut it out carefully and precisely for clean edges.

2) Use LOTS of soapy water when applying, as the instructions recommend. The more the better. (Just be prepared with towels. ) 3) A credit card makes a great squeegee for applying.

Looks really good on a french door. The best way to handle this material is to make a template for the size you need because you really do need to measure and cut accurately. My French door has 10 frames so it did take some time to get each frame right but the end result was impressive.

The product did not provide the level of privacy I expected. I wanted to hide items stored inside a cabinet with glass in the door. There is no light source inside the cabinet but the items are visible through the glass.

Sticks to the window well. Looks beautiful from the outside. Easy to follow instructions.

Fairly easy to apply to windows and so far its staying put. Lets in a lot of light, but stymies stalkers.

Easy to install, mine said to spray water on window first which I did, but I could tell it would have stayed up with or w/o water. So far so good. Love how it looks and how it reflects ‘etched’ sunlight!.

Although it looks nice, it doesn’t stick very well. After putting it up the first time, 2 days later it started peeling off. I tried putting it up three different times and each time it falls off with a day or so.

Returning it, disappointed.

Product arrived bent (damaged during shipping). Chose not to return at the time so I have small defects in the film (small creases), but film was still usable. Application was easier than expected, after the second window had it figured out.

How-To Videos are very useful to watch before you start. Always know where your tools and solution are each step, nothing like hunting for the cutter or squeegee when half way through. In direct light the carpet and wall no longer feels hot to the touch.

So. seems to be working. I actually entered my apartment from the hall one day and my apartment was cooler than the hallway (never happened before, I do not have AC). Windows look slightly mirrored from outside and even a sunny day can look slightly overcast from the inside due to the dark tint but you adapt to it (I think there is a ‘clear’ version of the film which is a bit less effective if you cannot or do not want tint).

TIP: when applying to the window work quickly to get the film ‘rough’ smoothed out to the edges (within about an inch), then trim the top edge, then left and right, then bottom, and finally use the squeegee to work out any water and air bubbles that are left.

If you take too long to get the film on flat you can end up with ‘bits’ of dried solution residue that is hard to get rid of under the film (looks a bit like powder or foam residue). The faster you get it trimmed and flat the cleaner the result.

I have used similar Gila products on multiple windows and they worked great. This one does not. Keeps falling off even though I followed directions and put on the same way as the others using the Gila spray etc kit.

I agree with many of the other reviews. For a large window like I tried on. Would not recommend. I had to throw it out. I even tried some silicone at the top to try and make it hold in place. Didn’t work.

Such a waste.

Cool off a few degrees. Don’t expect too much if the sun is direct many hours on an intensely hot day. The product manufacturer does not exaggerate their claim either. Some experience about install. Best to do this with 2 persons.

The film tends to have stick together when the plastic layer is separated. So to have 1 hold the film and another do the peeling will be less frustrating. I use generous amount of diluted hand soap to spray on window glass before putting on the film.

Spray also on the film after it cling to the window. This water in between the glass and film will allow air bubbles to be squeeze out when applying the window squeezer. Leave an inch wider than the required glass surface all around and use utility knife to slide right along the edge when the film slings to window glass.

This way this is much less chance of curling at the edge.

Product goes up easily and looks good from inside and outside. The only problem I do have is the fact that if you put it on a window that you look out of often, you feel like you need to go get your eyes checked or put on eyeglasses.

It’s definitely not like looking out a regular window and being able to see out clearly. Everything looks blurry. There’s nothing sharp and clear about the view from inside your home to the outside. There is no mirrored effect to this tint.

It looks almost black from the street and that stays that way until dusk or after. No one can see in during the day. Not even in the slightest.

I tried some of this window film on windows facing the morning sun and it seem to have a cooling effect on that room. I purchased these three rolls for my bedroom windows which get the morning sun so I could get the same cooling effect because the sun really heats up the bedroom in the morning and when the 90 plus temperatures the a/c has little effect.

I used the EZ film frosted window film to transform some inside cabinet glass. I needed a place where I can store stuff and it’s not visible to everyone in my kitchen! This product did the trick! Not only did it give me a place to hide my stuff, it really made the cabinets look “high-end”.

I had priced replacing the glass with frosted glass and simply couldn’t afford it. The film was pretty easy to handle once I found out how to get the backing off. Static cling made the installation flexible and allowed me to reposition it several times until it was perfect! It looked just like the expensive frosted glass I couldn’t afford! It really is EZ.

EZ to get, EZ to install and EZ on the pocketbook. I will definitely be ordering more for my windows for the summer!.

I really liked the static cling application of this product. I had purchased the more permanent type in the past and had difficulty applying it on my large window 36 x 44. Especially by myself! The static cling option seemed to be the best option for me and it was very forgiving and allowed alterations as needed during the application process.

The product met my expectation with regards to the amount of light and obscuring in my bathroom I was trying to achieve. The company was excellent to deal with shipped on time and I believe it it even arrived early.

If I am ever needing a product like this again I will definitely purchase it from this company but I have already recommended it to several people.

I didn’t want to pay $820 to have a frosted window. Started looking online and found Window Film. After watching the video and checking the price I decided to give it a try. The product arrived earlier than I was expecting and it really works.

My window looks amazing, as a pro! As an advice, watch the videos online to get the tips to do it. It’s easy but steps need to be followed. I definitely recommend it and would buy again if I need it.

My bathroom has an exterior glass door leading to a deck, and I needed privacy but wanted to preserve the light. A local glass tinting firm said they would do it for $150. After reading reviews, I thought I’d give it a try and boy am I happy! It took less than 10 minutes and came out perfect.

It is non-adhesive so if you didn’t place it correctly, just peel off and reapply.

I’ve been looking online for a film to cover my large glass front door. This did the job perfectly. It gives me privacy and still lets in the natural light. Follow the instructions and you shouldn’t have any problem.

I’m ordering a second one to do my transom windows. Might upload pictures later.

Did not work at all like the reviews stated it would. Followed directions explicitly and multiple times. Still did not attach properly to windows. Not bothering returning because it costs 1/2 of the product price to do so.

Just follow the simple instructions for applying. It took me several hours to apply to 6 windows. I’m non artsy-crafty guy. The look does not really match the picture — the green is mostly grey/frosty – the “see-through” part.

But don’t worry, these aren’t see through at all. Completely opaque. It does look like an electronic board even from a distance of 20 feet.

I hated the idea of people seeing in my front door, which has mult-pane clear windows. I didnt want to hang a tacky curtain either, so we tried this. Its fairly easy to apply and definitely does the trick.

My windows look like professionally installed privacy glass. A little pricy for what it is, but its been up for 8 months through a harsh winter and its still going strong.

My mom had this type of window. It’s great cause you have complete privacy. Also it could be a great way to baby proof. No blind cords or curtains to pull down on your little one. Very effective and easy to use.

Elegant looking,not too difficult to install. Just read instructions carefully and use a lot of sprayed water prior to placement of film. I used squgee and practically no bubbles.

This was easy to hang and looks beautiful on my palladium window. You can hardly see the seams. I can because I hung the film, but others couldn’t even see the seams. Make sure you do not get the back of the film with backing wet because that is very hard to peel off.

When I placed my second piece up to the window to make sure I had an exact cut for the curvature of palladium and pattern match, I should have wiped off the bottom of the window before lining it up. But very easy to install and looks beautiful.

I would highly recommend this.

I would have given 5 stars but I made a mistake when cutting. The description says the pattern repeats so I didn’t think it was a problem it only repeats when you buy another roll. It is very hard to trim when you get to the leaves even with the sharpest blade.

I bought 4 rolls and luckily on made a mistake on the first window. The roll will only cover 1 window if its small. I love this design I have also used others looks very nice. Just be very careful to measure twice cut once.

Easy to install and match. Like wallpaper, you need to make sure everything is level and square. Gives privacy while letting light in. Prettier on the window than in the roll. Nice that it comes with the scraper tool.
