20 Best Electronic Whistles For Referees (2023 Updated)

It’s not a terrible product, but isn’t as good as it could be or as good as other alternative products. It’s $24, which isn’t a huge amount I know, but you can get an alternative from elsewhere for $10.

The question is, is this whistle worth the extra $14? The battery cover is a weakness, it’s a fiddle to take off and looks flimsy and insecure. Not a huge problem as you don’t have to take it off all the time I guess but it just could be made better.

The three tone whistle is worthless, it does have three sounds but they aren’t really different whistle tones, two of them are electronic sound effects that are unusable on a sports field, they are not true whistle tones.

I have the product and I also have the $10 alternative that I mentioned earlier and I have to honestly say the other one is better overall never mind obviously being better value.

Bought this to ref for a flag football tournament and it works extremely well. Is even louder than the regular whistles others at the tournament used. It has three settings that are helpful as well. Loved the product because many people could use it without worrying about passing around germs like your standard whistle.

A con would be that the material , which is plastic, does feel very cheap and the overall product feels cheap too.

Nice idea during a pandemic but quality is low. Very hard to open cover to install battery. Four position switch for on/off and to change between the 3 tones is flaky. I have to coax the switch to sound the “whistle” noise by holding the button and moving the switch.

Sometimes if finds the tone but more often the device only makes the other 2 buzzer sounds. That’s not too interesting to a field ref. Returned first purchase but the replacement had the same issue.

Fox 40 makes good whistle, but with the corona situation right now, it’s hard to take off your mask, blow the whistle and then pull your mask back on. So this is very handy. The delivery was quick and easy, one little complain is your packaging is too big, that box could have carried like 50 more of the same product.

So I bought this with as kind of an add-on to another purchase from Third Team. I have in my ref gear Thirteen distinct whistles. I use like three of them regularly, and for whatever reason, very few Fox products.

Maybe because they’re ubiquitous and I want a different sound, or one model feels to small in my hand and another’s mouthpiece doesn’t seem to give me consistent results. But anyway, I bought the EPIK.

It’s a shrill whistle, it has a lot of high-frequency sound, but seemed to carry well. You can be expressive with it by varying blow-pressure and trilling with the tongue. It’s comfortable in the hand.

During the game I just forgot about it, and my fingers naturally gravitated to the shape. I’d give that part high marks. All in all, it’s pretty cool, and in my mind one of the top Fox40 offerings.

Just got this whistle for the first time and it’s my new favorite whistle! Awesome tone. My only problem is now I want every single color. Thanks Third Team! Guess I’ll have to place another order now.

Based on the description I thought this whistle was going to be loud and easy when blowing. It is very quiet and the noise is low and you have to blow hard in order to get a medium whistle sound. I do but recommend.

I got one from Walmart and it is easy to blow, a nice distinctive noise and louder, and cheaper. $2. 99.

Little expensive but definitely gets players, coaches, and spectators attention. I typically use a regular Fox 40 whistle but in bigger venues with larger crowds or with adjacent pitches I find it necessary to use this whistle.

On a smaller pitch it tends to be a little too loud.

Very solid whistle. Great performance. It has a nice grip. Certainly can be distinguished from other whistles. My opinion is that it is a little over priced.

There’s two Fox 40 whistles! A slightly fatter one (this one) and a skinnier one. It’s sometimes hard to know which is which without seeing it in person. Fox 40 whistles are required by Basketball WA and all the basketball stadiums across WA for basketball referees.

(I’ve had to buy multiple of these for my son! They seem to grow legs!) Unfortunately Warwick Stadium had no stock left. And all our local (other sporting stores had closed or had none. ) Thankyou Rebel for having stock.

Was a bit of a drive. The cord has changed from plain black to a much softer cord that has Fox 40 in white written in repeat across the cord. (Haven’t seen any other Referees with this. But hasn’t been a problem yet.

This whistle works like a charm, loud and annoying! You can hear this sucker at a great distance! Give this bad boy to a kid and you will know their exact location in seconds! I don’t recommend letting them do a test drive of this whistle in front of you.

Have not opened the package just yet. Had these Fox 40 whistles in the past and are of very good quality, the added lanyard is a nice bonus. Purchased a dozen of this item for an outdoor school sports program and plan to purchase more.

I loved the products I purchased including the whistles, lanyards, hat and referee cards. I would definitely order again simply for the price and customer service I received. Thank you for that. However, the printing was cut off by a third on my red card I believe BUT I could just use the backside anyways.

I would like to see an option to not have to but 12 lanyards in the future. Now I have 6 extras for no reason in particular. Love everything about the company, customer service and pricing! Thank you.

It hurts my ears. Thats what I wanted. It needs to be heard from far away. And it does. I needed something louder than me to call my dogs from the next property. And these work. I’m very happy.

Very thin metal. Have to blow hard for it to sound loud. Small in size. Disappointed.

I’ve been collecting and reviewing a lot of whistles out there for along time now and honestly ACME whistles is the best brand for whistles out there. It took me a while to find this whistle as i watch NRL and footy in general and hearing the REF blow their whistle i wondered to myself how they get that sound and what whistle brand it is.

I have 4 of these whistles 2 in use and 2 in package still and great quality whistle. I’ve watched YouTube to see how they get that nice crisp sound like on tv and yeah recommend watching the videos to get that sound.

I needed a good device to sound to my approach on the bike paths. Bells weren’t loud enough and air horns could be overkill. This little whistle, I can wear around my neck and the sound can be modulated easily for effect.

There is a warning that you should not use it near dogs and I would elaborate on that to not use it indoors except in a loud gym atmosphere. As you will learn, although the sound it makes is very similar to a regular whistle, it is very loud.

I also would caution a user to be careful when putting in batteries because there is a little release button to open the battery cavity and that button is not glued in and you will drop it if you are not careful.

I bought this for my dad who coaches football. Hes in his 60s so ive been so concerned about how hes getting his players attention without a conventional whistle. He said his players hear the whistle clearly and its super easy for him to have on a lanyard (or a pocket) for easy access just like he would a regular whistle.

The package arrived way earlier than anticipated. Im SO happy with this product.

Sufficient. But I feel that the way you must securely hold it partially muffles or distorts the sounding of the whistle. It could just be me and needing to get used to it. With the dynamic action and fluidity of a game, you must also focus on how you are holding this electronic whistle to achieve maximum results of it.

The whistle is very loud and clear. It’s so loud that i wouldn’t use it indoors and be careful you don’t aim it at any one since it is a little directional. The only negative part is that only the first of the three settings is an actual whistle sound, the 2nd and 3rd ones are a buzzer and a chime, I’d have preferred three different tones of whistle.

Still it’s perfect for what i needed it for. It would be nice if it was water proof or at least resistant but that probably would raise the price.

I think this is a very unique item for my nitecore collection. I have several serious medical issues, but love the outdoors. I can feel more secure while enjoying my hikes with this item. When activated it can help locate me if Ever the need arises.

I ordered and received my NWE30 light/whistle promptly. It operates as described but I question whether the whistle could be heard by someone operating a personal watercraft. The whistle’s sound output most certainly isn’t as loud as some rock concerts I’ve attended or jet aircraft I’ve worked on.

The Fox 40 Sonik Blast is LOUD! If you want the loudest it can go you’ll probably cover your ears it is that loud. I would recommend this for hikers, hunters, boaters, joggers, etc, etc, etc. basically anywhere you might find the need to draw attention to yourself in an emergency.

You could even use it to call your kids in from the neighborhood without having to yell for them. And yes, you could definitely use it for officiating at sporting events. Anywhere you need or want a loud whistle, this one has got you covered.

Fox 40 classic is easier to keep in your mouth for long periods of time. This whistle is like having two fox 40 Classics, your are blowing at once. Therefore the mouth grip is thicker. Different. You can vary your sound by not blowing hard, and it still gives you a good whistle.

Blow hard, and it turns heads, and stops people in their tracks. I use it when things get noisy, or if the gym is medium noisy, and I don’t want to have to blow hard. It’s still plenty loud. Says it’s a 140dcbs, vs.

120 for the classic. Seems MUCH louder then the numbers indicate, if you really lean on it.

I’m a lifeguard at a waterpark, and I purchased this whistle simply for the colour, but it is so useful at enforcing rules, a guests always listen when I use this whistle. Very helpful during emergency situations, and very very loud because of the dual chamber.

Fits comfortably in mouth. If you chew on your whistle a lot you may chew through the rubber but I have not had an issue with it. Highly recommend this whistle.

This is a super loud whistle which was needed for the situation I bought it for but wear the earplugs that come with it. If you’re lost in the woods this whistle may be a life saver or if you fall down and can’t get up this will definitely attract attention.

I use this whistle outdoors without hearing protection and instantly regretted it. This whistle left my ears ringing long after I used it. I could have controlled the volume of this whistle by not blowing too much air too fast into it.

It does what it promises and does not have a ball in it. Worth using for emergency situations, rescue, or loud environments.

This is a extremely loud whistle. I was standing on my front porch, took a deep breath and let it rip. My two dogs like to have fell off the porch when they heard the loud noise. Going to use it in an emergency when I’m out hiking in the mountains.

Bought it to coach my sons soccer team. Does the job of getting 3-4 year olds attentions. You do need to push more air than I thought to make a good sound. Tip: Do a spitting motion to get a good shorter sound.

Great loud whistle, a lot easier than a traditional mouth-whistle. The three different sounds are distinct from each other so can be used for different purpose. The switch to change from one sound to another is a bit fiddly, it can take a couple of seconds and some care to switch to the sound you want.
