20 Best Digital Camera Under $50 (2023 Updated)

First off, I’ve been using Nikon cameras for almost 30 years. So please consider that if you are looking for a more “comparative” review. The nearest competitor I use is the Sony A6000, a completely different ballgame.

That said, it means I’ve been through the FM, FM2, F2, F3, F100, D50, AND D200, and currently use the 3500 as well as a D7500. The 3500 is wonderfully lightweight and compact Dslr, with outstanding image quality, compact format factor, exceptionally good lenses (10-20, 18-55, 70-300; all af-p’s and a 35/1.

8 and 85/1. 8 af-s), and incredibly good battery life. I don’t hesitate to use it on jobs. There is not a single complaint I can levy against this camera. I only shoot stills and don’t “chimp” (I’m a film guy), and it never has let me down.

I’m in manual mode 100% of the time, restrict auto ISO to 6400 and bang away. I’ve never had a camera stand out of my way so willingly and get such repeatable results. I use a few non-ai lenses so I love the absence of the ai tab on other, more expensive Nikons, so huge bonus there.

All of the above can be echoed for the D7500, and use both regularly. Highly recommended.

So far so good! I’m a complete novice when it comes to DSLRs. In the age of the smartphone, I never really had the chance to have an interest in standalone cameras. I received this camera for my birthday and have been having a lot of fun taking pictures and messing around in manual mode.

The presets are good and intuitive, and there’s even a guide setting that helps to get you the pictures you want to take. The camera feels solid in my hand, and comes with a nice strap to hang around the neck and shoulders.

I love that you can connect the camera to your phone via Bluetooth and send pictures so that you can quickly upload them to social media. The battery life is good – I’ve only charged it once since taking it out of the box and have been using the camera for about an hour or so everyday for a week, plus I’ve forgotten to turn it off on at least one night.

I took one star off because there is no way to attach a microphone, which I feel is a basic function that a camera of this caliber should have. As of now, I’ve only been taking pictures of my kids and inanimate objects.

I watched a few YouTube videos to get me started and now I’m just practicing to get better in the manual settings. If you’re on the fence about buying a DSLR in 2021 and the age of the semi-decent iPhone camera, I say do it! It’s a fun hobby that you can pick up and learn quickly.

My husband bought me this camera for my birthday. I have owned it for over two years, and it has always been my go-to camera! I literally bring it everywhere to take pictures and make memories. We are avid travelers, and I have taken it all the way from Hawaii to Florida.

I have made dozens of photo books, and have taken my children’s senior photos, wedding photos, new baby photos, and so many vacation photos. The camera is easy to use, easy to transport and easy to clean.

I take it to the beach a lot, so it sometimes gets a little salt water condensation on the lens. However, I use specially made lens cleaner for my camera and a soft, microfiber cloth, and everything looks like new.

The quality of the pictures is always crisp and clean. I have won awards for some of my photographs using this camera. One thing that I would suggest is to purchase an attachable lens cover.

It hasn’t been that long since I bought the ZV-1, which is my first camera from Sony. I chose it mainly because of its size because some time ago I tried to vlog with my Nikon Z fc and when I put a mic on it, it was way too big and heavy to be convenient for vlogging.

And since the sensor is much smaller, it doesn’t suffer from rolling shutter that much. To be honest, I’m a complete beginner in video. I am mostly a photographer, though, so I know a bit about cameras and how they work.

That’s why I can appreciate that the ZV-1 has a lot of different shooting modes from complete autopilot to fully manual settings even with picture profile. Therefore, as I learn, it will grow with me and perhaps one day I will learn how to colour grade.

When I first started to play with the camera, I was surprised at how good the picture quality actually is. This goes for both video and photos. This camera takes surprisingly nice photos and as it can shoot RAW, one can get even more from them.

I like that the video can also be shot vertically, which is very handy in the time of Instagram Reels and TikTok. The ZV-1 has a built-in ND filter, which is very useful, however, 3 stops is not always good enough to shoot wide open on a bright sunny day.

The camera comes with a windscreen for the built-in mic which can improve sound quality by quite a lot. I’m happy that the camera can produce decent audio quality without having to use a bulky external mic.

But that is still an option. If there’s something to complain about, it’s the battery life. The batteries are very small and the camera doesn’t come with a charging brick. One more thing I don’t particularly enjoy is the Imaging Edge mobile app which for me being used to the Nikon’s app is quite complicated to navigate.

Also, I don’t always succeed when I try to establish a wi-fi connection between my camera and smartphone. But maybe I just need to learn how to use it properly. Over all, I’m really happy with this camera and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for either a beginner camera primarilly for video (but it’s very capable at photography too), or a camera that is small enough to take anywhere.

It’s inconspicuous, therefore it can be used in environments where cameras are usually not welcome.

Terrible. This product should be listed as fraudulent. Advertised as a vlogers camera – cannot stay on for more than 5 minutes without overheating. If you are a vlogger and use a Mac – like 99% of the creative world – THIS WILL NOT SYNC UP WITH YOUR MAC – you cannot use it as a vlogers camera.

1) it’ll over heat in 5 minutes so talk fast and 2) you are required to use Sony’s software and it makes everything look like a claymation. The quality of the video when importing to your computer, looks about 85% worse than the view finder Quality – it looks worse than an iPhone 12.

Low light is unusable and looks over exposed and grainy. Color accuracy. either the sky is white or this camera sucks. There’s minor adjustments you can make, but it takes a long time to adjust and has next to no smart features – this camera is almost 100% manual usage for adjustments.

There’s no preset or automation on it, focusing struggles all the time in all setting. If you use studio lights of any sort (LED’s), the refresh rate cannot be adjusted to avoid lines on a screen. In adjusting the refresh rate.

Battery Life- maybe 15 minutes when recording. You cannot plug it in and use it forever – 1) it’ll overheat in 5 minutes – 2) the batter still drains even when plugged in and recording. Eventually you have to sit and wait for a while to recharge it if you do not have a spare.

So if you read this far and still want this camera – buy like 15 $40 batteries – you will need every single one. also a portable freezer to cool it off would be good. Picture quality as a camera is horrendous.

it really struggles to focus. All photos came out fuzzy/blurry when not using a tripod – shutter adjustments did nothing. PLEASE NOTE – This is my 3rd ZV-1 I’ve tested – the first two had the EXACT same issue – I was assured by Sony that it was just a bad device.

it is not. This is a $750 paper weight that turns on and off.

I bought this camera for vlogging and self-op documentary footage. I needed something that would perform in challenging light, could be easily self-operated; that could produce acceptable vision and sound quality with minimal setup.

It delivered on all of these fronts and is one of Sony’s best thought-through cameras as a result. The fact that the price was accessible was the primary determining factor. I have it in a smallrig cage and use it on a mini tripod or a gimbal, plug in a cheap (£12) lapel mic and the results are stunning – indoor and out.

Focussing is pretty much flawless, including the product showcase option. I found I didn’t have to worry about the focussing when using it, which is what you want from a piece of kit. Although you could spend a lot of time tweaking the settings – and I had a wonderful afternoon on holiday going through all of the possiblities, accessing the different colour profiles and applying LUTS to the result – most people won’t need to do this and actually will run on one of the automatic settings.

It just works. And the results are more than just acceptable. Visually it delivers big time and I prefer the look and feel of the HD to the 4K footage. Minor niggles; Zoom range – both wide and tight – feels a little cramped.

The menus are extensive but until you get to know them finding what you need to change can be a bit of a challenge; and they do change when you select different settings – so it’s easy to get lost. Both HDMI out and the USB streaming option have more latency than I was expecting.

There’s no headphone socket, so you can’t find out without making a trial recording whether the mic is picking up wind noise; Battery life is acceptable but not stunning; Sometimes it seems to be reluctant to draw power from a USB power brick which is fine until it isn’t.

In 4K you need to set what level of overheat you will tolerate; I used it as a B camera on one job; set it to record and it shut down after ten minutes and I couldn’t get to the camera for another ten minutes to try and work out what had gone wrong.

There’s no headphone socket. Did I mention this? It’s a big, big drawback. The on-off button is prominent; if you pick up the camera and accidentally brush the power button it will extend the lens and has more than once nearly jumped out of my hand; I never leave batteries in it now.

But all of these are relatively minor; I have other cameras some with better features, but this is the one I’ll have with me more often than not and certainly for doing any pieces to camera. I’d highly recommend it for both beginner and advanced users and would happily have another (though I rather fancy the one with the interchangeable lenses.

This was a steal at the price, and the perfect next Nikon for me. I have always been an avid photographer, but never had the cash to commit to great cameras. This camera has been extensively reviewed on Youtube and tech websites, so I did my research before buying.

If you are looking for an entry-level camera body with a FANTASTIC autofocusing kit lens (it has a smooth manual-focus override ring), with multiple modes, Bluetooth transfer capability (albeit slow) to devices, Wifi connection, and a Live View LCD screen mode, look no further.

Nikon delivers the perfect frame every time, and always has. The color reproduction is phenomenal. The detail and clarity of sharp images is outstanding. If I had a reason to buy this camera twice, I would.

Instead, I am going to spring for the 1. 8 aperture 35 mm lens to give myself better low light pics. DON’T GET ME WRONG, THOUGH — THIS CAMERA TOOK SPECTACULAR PICS AT TWILIGHT, AND EVEN SOME AT NIGHT.

After many years with a Canon EOS 450, I finally got round to upgrading to something more current. Still a few years since launch, this camera is night and day to the Canon. Gone are the compact flash cards, limited ISO options and low res lcd screen.

Replaced instead with a more standard SD card slot, a host of options, filters, modes and a bright menu and live image viewer on the LCD screen (which also has the option for a live view). The feature set is rich with possibilities and allows for even a complete beginner to take incredible shots.

The depth of field and focus settings are simple and the image processing chip makes even tricky shots look professional. This pack, which includes the additional zoom lens, is an absolute steal for the price and unless you are a professional photographer or have need of a mirrorless camera, it will do everything you need and more (did I mention HD video capture?) Absolutely brilliant camera, I would recommend to anyone looking for their first DSLR or thinking of upgrading from an aging entry level item.

The camera and the accessories did have a lot to offer, the tripod is kind of cheap though and kind of sticky. The camera however is a great value, the UV filters that came with the camera were of great help with filtering out UV light and made the photos look more detailed in direct sunlight.

The camera accessories such as the lens wipe and cleaning kit also are of great help and are of a great value to somebody who needs to clean the equipment to prevent dust buildup. Overall the camera works great and had no issues.

The only cons are having to change the lens but professional cameras all have to do that in order to shoot in different environments. The only real cons are the cheapo tripod and it is kind of sticky.

The battery works great, have not tested out the extra flash attachment so I cannot say anything regarding that. The SD Card that came with it worked great, the other lens work great. With the rapid inflation going on, this is a good deal at this time.

The equipment is brand new, it works and the tripod just isn’t too much to expect it to be too too reliable. However overall, the lens works great, the 55mm lens works great that came with it. I am happy with this camera and it’s accessories.

It is a great value for those wanting a little extra than just buying the camera body. It is a good camera. I have used this camera for many months, and this one is just as good as the other one that I had bought.

So the Nikon D3500 is a great camera for professionals who cannot afford too expensive type of cameras. Oh yeah the card reader is a little sluggish compared to other faster card readers that I have used but is a great backup card reader if you don’t have any other card reader, just to have an extra card reader is a great idea.

It’s a Canon DSLR, what more do I need to say? You’re going to pay the Canon tax anytime you’re buying a Canon. They’re THE camera company everyone goes to for their first DSLR. This particular model doesn’t include the flip out screen, so if that’s a must for you, you need to look at newer models or other brands.

The kit lens that’s included is perfectly adequate. It takes great looking photos but the auto-focus is very slow and operation is noisy. Luckily, you ought to be learning to use the focus ring (the twisty bit at the business-end of the lens that doesn’t zoom the photo).

“But why did you buy a three year old camera?” Because it works. I personally got an open-box example for my wife for less than $400 USD and aside from missing the lens cap (which was a non issue as they can easily be purchased) the camera was perfect.

I cleaned some stubborn fingerprints from the lens and now have a fantastic piece of equipment. Who is this for? This camera is for beginners who want to get into DSLR photography and don’t care about having the newest bells and whistles.

This camera is for the intermediate photographer that wants a rugged chonky camera to tote around with them Who is this NOT for? Beginners who do not wish to take a bit of time to learn how to operate a DSLR.

If the idea of learning about the exposure triangle scares you, or if you plan to leave this camera in auto 99% of the time, please do yourself a favor and buy a G7X instead. This isn’t for you f you plan to do any streaming with this camera, as it doesn’t have a clean HDMI output.

Newer models will meet your needs.

Great camera for a great price! Very solid for any enthusiast or professional. It is a really good camera. It does have very few shortcomings and give tough competition to any camera in it’s class even in 2023.

I use this for sports photography, portraits, and street photography. For all of these scenarios, it works really well. Especially if you know what you’re doing and you tinker a little in the settings too.

PROS: Fast autofocus 11fps burst shooting, isn’t the most fastest, but it doesn’t feel slow not even a bit, incredibly good burst shooting Easy settings menu Hidden eye auto focus option, very handy for portraits 179+25 autofocus points Image quality is fantastic shoots both RAW and jpeg CONS: EVF is very sensitive, and sometimes lag on startup Low light performance isn’t that great, but somewhat acceptable The time it takes to write images to sd card after a couple shots continuously is a pain sometimes, especially when you want to look at the shots you took a second ago.

Battery life is bad, no sugar coating that. But if you can get batteries, which you can get a 5-pack on amazon, you’ll be completely fine.

I purchased this same camera about 4-5 years ago. Im extremely rough on it and take thousands of images a year. My shudder went on my old one, so it wasnt really a surpise when it did. I initially purchased the alpha a7ii as a replacement, but im not a super camera tech savy person and didnt like the idea that the a7ii didnt have the built in flash.

I love the a6000 is small, light, has a built in flash. I can grab it and snap without having to worry about anything. The a7ii was bigger, heavier, the idea i needed to attach an external flash to use it, just really bothered me.

So I did end up returning the a7ii and repurchasing the 6000 again. I am very very happy I did. I love my a6000. The only issue I have had with both a6000 cameras I have had now, I take pictures of animals.

I snap pictures quickly and repeatedly. If i snap several in a row(maybe 10-15 in a rapid row) the camera wiill freeze(not actually freeze,but it just wont take the picture anymore). It has happened with both, so I know know it wasnt just my old camera.

I have to stop and turn it off and turn it back on. That would literally be my only complaint. I love this little camera.

So after having used cameras for over 58 years should know something about cameras. This would be my third Sony one professional. Now to my findings on this with a E3. 5-5. 6/pz 16-50 oss lens. The camera is balance excellent with this lens and fits my hand perfect with the thumb pad spot on for my small chubby hands.

Having been in QA and Quality assurance most of my life I know how to assess a product, the controls are easy to get to and have a nice quality feel on their operation I always use my own settings it’s P,A,S,M and MR that I use.

Some operations like deleting any photos can be a bit time consuming and if one function could have done this it would have been better. The zoom lens is noisy and rattles a lot which makes it feel a bit on the cheap side the zoom lever on the lens is not smooth so takes some getting use to.

Having a non touch screen is good no messy finger prints on the monitor EVF is good I only ever take pictures with this method only downside it’s fixed to revolve so 90 degrees would have been nice. Hot shoe, pity a blank was not fitted as that keeps it clean and looks tidy.

Sutter is very noisy when taken photos maybe all the focal plane shutter cameras I owned over 50 years were never this noisy As to operation of focusing that is good both in AF and manual also having manual control on all other settings are good.

I cannot review as regarding movies because I never use a still camera for this Over picture quality is good for the lens. The slot for SD is terrible the only way of releasing it is with tweezers. Not having a battery charger is silly and having to charge through the small socket, No small socket with a cable going in and out will not last very long on gold contacts.

So what this camera has to offer is good and I am pleased with the camera for my needs and as a user maybe take on average 20 to 200 shots a week is fine. I would recommend this Sony A6000 and for a camera to be in production for so many years speaks for it’s self.

I was disappointed that the 18-55 lens – the workhorse lens in my mind – seems very plastic-y. I was expecting a quality closer to my old Canon AE-1 lens. I also really dislike that the focus ring is on the very end of the lens, and the ring is very slim making it awkward to use, especially if you’re trying to move quickly.

I fully expect to end up with pics at some point that have my finger in them. The 75-300 lens seems to be a better quality and the focus ring is beefier. The body is all plastic but seems like it might hold up.

Disappointed that you have to download the full manual instead of it being included since it has all the info you’ll need if you’re not wanting to just point and shoot. (Why would I buy this package if that’s all I wanted to do?) The bag is a good quality and fits this combo of body, lenses, and battery perfectly.

Also like that a nice camera strap is included. Haven’t taken many pics with it yet because I had to stop and go download the full manual, but they seem ok so far. I wish the f-stops were manual and not on a menu though – again for speed.

Also wish turning the flash off wasn’t a choice on the dial since that means you can’t use any other setting on the dial at the same time, but maybe somewhere in the manual it tells how to do that. I’m very happy that the door for the battery and memory card isn’t spring loaded.

That part broke on my point and shoot camera rendering the whole thing useless (at times even despite the duct tape).

I bought this camera to take pictures of my kids. *When* I’m able to get the settings right it takes great pictures. Autofocus is nothing short of amazing. Now for the bad part: the camera is intentionally handicapped by removing the “Minimum shutter speed Speed” Option.

Then there is the second slap on the wrist: in any mode but M and S (and the dedicated speed modes), the camera severely reduces shutter speed in favor of lower ISO and higher aperture. I was aware of the first limitation but had no idea of the second – and none of the long list of Sony cameras I owned.

The end result: in anything less than great light the camera is unusable for pictures of faster moving subjects (and boy, are those kids fast!). Yes, I can workaround this in S and M modes. Yes, I can be switching modes and adjusting settings based on light conditions.

But while I’m doing that I’ll be missing the very moments I want to capture and those moments will never repeat again. And as a bonus feature – I feel very hesitant to give the camera in “M” mode to anybody else to take a family photo of us.

Way to ruin a great camera Sony!.

I would not recommend this camera. Alot of promise, but does not deliver. The battery goes faster than it can charge so I needed to buy an external charger and extra battery. It connected once to my desktop – and NEVER again.

Just an error. (Yes I read tech support – I am a pro user – I switched settings from PC Remote, etc but nothing. Even bought a new cable) App on iphone never ran – just a looping error. Couldn’t use as a cam since it won’t connect to my desktop (or laptop for that matter) I have to download pics or videos via card connected via a different device.

Small – yes which is why it was attractive to buy. But even the WiFi/Smartphone features failed to work. Much better options out there. This person will stay away from Sony Camera’s. Good Luck.

This is a great camera for general vacation use and walking around. In a pinch, you can get really good artistic photos, too. It has a lot of capabilities for adjusting settings, including Tv, Av, and full Manual mode, and it will record a RAW image if you select it.

The sensor is a little bit larger than those on most similar-sized cameras. The camera is also heavier and obviously a high-quality product. The shell is metal. The buttons and dials all have nice feel to them.

I have the S100 in my pocket on our vacations, and on general walks. It only has 5X optical zoom, but that’s usually enough for snapshots and general use, but it wouldn’t be a good camera for taking photos of birds or wildlife that is far away.

I’ll often stop to take a close-up of a flower or something, and it works great for that with a macro mode. It has a built-in pop-up flash that is covered unless it pops up, and it does a great job for fill-in flash of a person against a bright background.

The S110 that replaced it is very similar but has a touch screen and Wi-Fi, if that is important. To me they are about the same.

Great retro compact digital cam, all metal body and great form – a real ‘blast from the past’, with back-to-basics functionality, but it’s all there to still take memorable images with, and it’s a great travel cam.

Decent image quality from the 2. 1Mp sensor, and brilliant Canon image exposure / metering. Used to have one of these many years ago when I bought it new, but it accidentally ‘went for a swim’ and died.

So glad I am able to pick up good condition, used cam’s for a tiny fraction of the original price. Just be prepared to need buy a few new batteries (NB-1L’s or NB-1H’s) for it as undoubtedly the original batt’s will no longer hold their charge.

Though it’s not the newest PowerShot on the market, this is a great little camera, and I’d go so far as to say it’s probably the best value for quality point and shoot you can buy today. This is my first camera and the money I spent for it was well worth it, in my opinion.

I don’t have the money to shell out on a new DSLR or even a newer powershot, but the image quality of the S100 is superb, and I’m more than happy with what I got out of the money I spent. Video quality (up to 1080p30) is crisp, and image quality is excellent.

It’s also great at macro shots. As far as the microphone goes – the mic isn’t very good and there’s no hookup for an external one, being a little point and shoot, but it’s not completely horrible, either.

Just don’t expect great audio quality out of it, especially in a windy environment. I’d get a handy recorder or something of that nature and take the time to sync the audio in post production if you’re looking for great audio quality.

Overall: – You can get these things for super cheap these days and still get great photo quality – Image quality is great for a point and shoot – Video quality is good, nice and crisp – Don’t rely on the onboard microphone to produce great audio – also beware, no microphone jack – Has lots of features I didn’t expect tocome with a small camera I attached some photos I took with my S100 as examples.

If you’re looking to buy a good camera to start off on for cheap, I highly recommend going for an S100.

I bought this camera to do videos. The camera took superior quality video and images (the sole reason for my two stars), but getting them off the camera to my computer was a nightmare. The EOS software apps are impossible to pair with the camera and the interfaces are seemingly programmed in 1996.

I’m not even exaggerating. Worse, once you install the very antiquated software, the camera can’t be found or paired over wi-fi. Again, total nightmare. I ended up selling the camera after weeks of frustration trying to get it to simply work.

Another downside is that this camera EATS batteries in video mode, and you can’t plug it in and charge batteries at the same time. Again, not user friendly. In terms of the other products in the bundle, the case was good quality, as was the tripod.

I didn’t use the mic, but it seems very cheap.

The Canon EOS M50 Mark II is a very good digital camera for photographers. Excellent for 1080p video but not 4K. The autofocus system on the Mark II is an improvement over the previous model. It has improved face and eye detection so you’re less likely to get blurred photos with this camera.

The built-in flash works well in low light conditions. You need to use the touch screen to get effects such as blurred backgrounds. The retracting design of the lens makes it relatively compact to carry but you will need to buy an extra battery for extended shooting time.

You will also need to buy a couple of photo quality SD cards. Connects to your computer via a USB connection with Canon’s Webcam Utility software.

So as they say, It’s not the size of the camera, but the quality of the lens. I bought the body only (as shown), and instead got the Canon EF-M 22mm f2 STM pankcake (for wide shots and portability) and the Canon EF 100mm f/2.

8L Macro IS USM w/adapter for tele shots and macro shots. I have other L-lenses as well, but these two I chose for this camera. Mainly I use this as a B camera for overhead shots (w/ boom) when vlogging product videos.

Don’t let the size fool you, it’s a very capable camera! It can also double as a travel camera if you like. I immediately switched everything to manual, turned off the non-pro menu features, and enabled volume meters while recording.

So I can’t say a whole lot about the prosumer features because I just don’t care. Those that say that you can’t access the battery while mounted. it all depends on your tripod head. I didn’t have that issue with the boom I’m using.

Also, if you’re mounting on the adapter or lens, you’ll have more flexibility as to what tripod head you can use. I think this is great for the boom because it’s not too heavy. I have an on-camera mic (Sennheiser 440k) since this camera is the closest one and am using a wireless lavalier w/ camera A, which is further away.

So I can’t comment on on-camera sound, except to not use on-camera sound on any camera for any serious purposes. Cons: I haven’t tried the HDMI out feature yet, but I did notice that if you disable the screen info for the HDMI out, some features will not be available.

The 4k is crop. Recording stops after a certain amount of time without the HDMI, so I do check from time to time to ensure it’s recording. I wish there was some alarm or beeping to let you know, or just not have it turn off.

You have to hunt for the menu to enable volume meter while recording. It should be default. The grandma/prosumer/baby menus (to stay politically correct) are disconcerting and I turned them off. Stabilization is digital.

I’d shy away from it and rely on lens stabilization if available, or a tripod. The automatic switch to visor is annoying since anytime your move your hand to touch the screen the screen turns off. so I disabled this default setting.

Really I just use this as a B-camera so all I cared about was getting it up and running, which I was able to do after customizing the settings to my needs. My favorite part is that Canon colors always come out looking great.

Just keep in mind that the camera alone will not get you good footage. Make sure you have good lighting, miking, camera position/movements, and a great lens.

Pros: Overall a great little camera for your holidays. Curry’s should make it very clear that this is no professional tool, least a beginner is confused; but it’s definitely a great bargain considering the two lenses, and I strongly advise it to detox from out addiction to phone cameras.

You will not believe how much gets compressed and lost when you use your phone compared to something like this. The camera is obviously extremely fragile, and the mirrors are exposed every time you change lenses: watch out for dust or abrupt bumps! Cons: I would have preferred to find a USB cable in the package so that one can download pictures straight away.

Instead, all you get is the naked machine and the lenses. Living far from any shop, it meant waiting for a week before one reached me via post. Some consideration for us rurals, please! The SD card was also a problem: not only there is none included in the bundle (again, thanks for not alerting the buyer – I had to order one and wait for days), but you will not find anywhere any specification about which card format is compatible with the camera.

For someone city-based, it means taking the camera to a shop, and enlist the help of an expert to find the right card; for someone in the countryside like me, it meant hours of web forums and spec charts until I could work out whether it was a mini, a 0.

I have had this camera approx 1 week I had bought it especially for taking pictures on holiday in Santorini. I practised using it at home for a couple of family pics that are very clear. I have older cameras which are so much better for zooming but I treated my self to a more modern camera.

I was so looking forward to taking photos in Santorini of the beautiful sunset and this camera disappointed me. It was on full zoom, the sun was really close and large and the pictures were shocking, the sun looked like a pin prick and not very clear.

My friends mobile phone took better pictures than the camera. Im afraid i will have to send it back. The camera its self is very easy to use, very close up photos are good, the quality of the camera seems good but im afaid the zoom was pathetic.

I played about with the settings according to the manual but failed miserably to get a picture of the great sunset for these reasons Im giving the camera an average score.

Having had experience, in my younger days, of manual SLRs I thought Id give photography another go and maybe try harder this time at being creative. I did a few days research before deciding to give the Canon EOS 2000D a try.

It appeared to have all the features, I thought, I needed at a reasonable price and I knew Canon usually turned out a solid piece of kit. So far, Ive not been disappointed. The build quality is very good and its one of those ergonomic designs you just cant stop looking at.

That may sound weird to some but, when Ive just purchased something Im going to be using for few years, I want to enjoy handling it as much as creating some nice images. This Model is regularly described as Entry Level and a Good starting point for DSLRs frankly, I disagree.

Yes you can start to point and shoot straight out of the box but this piece of Kit can definitely grow with you to the point where I, personally, dont really see myself venturing far beyond. Just a couple of tips before you buy.

1. Do research which Canon models have an Image Stabilizing lensIS as standard. Youd be surprised at the number of shops who fail to make this clear in listings. You may end up spending more than you need if you dont do this.

2. Do invest in The Dummies guide which you can also purchase on Amazon. The Camera only comes with the bare minimum of setup details and there is no way you will fully understand all the buttons, setup screens and huge amount of features without sitting down with this guide/manual and taking the voyage of discovery at your own pace.

I bought this a bit before lockdown for two purposes: trips abroad when I am traveling light, and photos of a grandchild, taking advantage of its autofocus capability. It is good as it is claimed to be for both of those purposes but lockdown put an end to travel, and I did not get to see the grandchild for over a year, so the camera was used much less than I expected.

One feature I do not like is the way the viewfinder works. To hold a camera steady, I like to hold it firmly against my head (or glasses) but if you do that with this camera, it pushes the viewfinder in a little, so you cannot see through it properly.

When the image looks blurred in the viewfinder, you have to hold it a bit further away from your face, and hence less firmly. As a result, I am less confident about holding this camera steady than I am about holding a more traditional camera with a rigid viewfinder.

I also find I miss having more controls (I am spoiled by having a Sony A7R3). I have the dial round the lens set to adjust the exposure up or down as needed, which is very convenient, but ideally I would like it to be easier to adjust the aperture without changing the exposure.

On the other hand, depth of field is so great, aperture is less of an issue than on a larger format camera. I would also like an easier way to move the focus point around the screen, so as a result, I leave it in Wide mode more than I would like.

But despite these minor niggles, the camera does what it is designed to do extremely well and so long as you understand the inevitable limitations of such a tiny camera, I would certainly recommend it.

I rarely use video so cannot comment on the sound quality.

Upgrded from the Mk4 which I loved and still use as it takes great still pictures. The 4k and HD video is great but no mic input makes getting good sound a bit more complicated This version is better for my needs in many ways.

I shoot a lot of 4k wildlife video and this little camera does a quite amazing job. I have a Sony fdr-ax100e and an fdr-ax53 4k camcorders and this camera does the job equally well and better than those two bigger cams.

The 200mm lens is what swung it for me and having a mic input. You can get a good used one for about half the retail price now on ebay if you are patient and keep a watch for a good one. That makes it a real bargain in my book.

I dont find the lack of a ND filter a problem. My one has a 52mm filter adaptor fitted and it lets me use a variable ND filter when required. I use a polarizing filter often too so adding that adaptor was a must.

Another must is to buy one of those rubber add on grips! The body is small and quite slick and adding that grip makes all the difference. The menu is complicated (more so than my Mk4 but over time if you sit and play around with it regularly, you soon get the hang of it and then becomes intuitive.

After not owning anything other than a iPhone for shooting photos, I finally decided to purchase a good travel camera, Sony’s RX100M7. The price was right on this one, since it was $200 less than anywhere else.

I am really enjoying this thing although there is a lot to learn to really get the most out of it, and I continue to look at YouTube videos to help with that. The camera does not come with a printed manual, a problem since it requires web access to learn how to use it.

You can download a document with web links to different features and usage, but that’s not ideal when you’re out traveling and have no access. So read and watch everything in preparation for using this thing.

You can keep the Sony RX100M7 in full Auto mode if you want, although I recommend a less expensive camera if that is your end goal. This camera can do all sorts of neat things if you know the fine points of its features, and I recommend that you do.

It takes nice steady videos, can be used for Vlogging although you would need an external microphone and a bracket to affix it to since the camera does not have a spot for an external mic. So that’s a negative, but one of the few for a camera in this class.

Other negatives include a very complex menu system of all the features and options, and the back video display screen only allows for very basic touch-sensor use, none of which are related to menus. The touch screen is used mostly for setting a focus point when you are taking a photograph, so extremely limited use.

Also, the menu’s built-in Help features are very basic. Another negative is the battery life. Plan on purchasing an additional battery or two and an external charger if you will be shooting a lot during the day.

Also, the photos and/or videos can get quite large depending on which settings you use, so have a fast, large SD or compatible memory card (or two or three!) if you know you’ll be taking a lot of photos/videos during any day of use.

Finally, here’s what else you’ll probably need to be happy with your RX100M7 — a screen protector for the rear video screen, a carry case of some sort to house the camera when not in use, along with its batteries, extra SD card, charge cable, etc.

You might buy a pricey video gimbal if you do a ton of video work and want extreme steadiness, as well as a tripod to use for night photos, action, etc. That’s a start, anyway. Good luck with your new RX100M7 camera, it’s a good one if these conditions fit your profile!.
