20 Best Deshedding Brush For Cats (2023 Updated)

My Black Labrador always has a heavy winter coat, even though I live in Florida. She sheds like crazy, but due to the very heavy undercoat that Labs have, it takes forever to get the winter coat brushed off.

The house looks like it was carpeted in dog fur, a few hours after I have vacuumed. This Dematting and Grooming rake makes short work of the heavy mats of winter coat, and it’s amazing how much fur it actually strips off the dog.

The best thing, is she likes it a lot more then those wire type brushes that irritate her skin. This rake has rounded edges on both side that just glide over her skin. She will sit still much longer now that I’m using this amazing brush.

(She’s 11 and kind of Grumpy). It has two sides, a course side to take out the big mats, then you can flip it over to “fine tune” her coat with the smaller side. Each tooth of the rake has a razor sharp inner edge, on the inside of the hooked tooth, where it can’t hook the dog’s skin.

This thing is so amazing, I bought a second one to give to my Daughter for her LabraDooddle that mats like crazy! I Rate this Five Stars!.

I have a Himalayan cat that I brush and comb every day but she still gets knots in her undercoat that I could not get out without cutting them out. I could not believe the amount of hair I got out of her the first time I used this tool.

She is a small cat weighing only 6. 5 lbs but after the first brushing using only the 12 tooth side I wound up with a ball of fur almost twice the size of her head. There was only a slight discomfort to her when I worked on the more matted areas but I was able to brush them out.

This tool is better then anything else I have used and saved me a trip to the groomers therefore I highly recommend it. The handle is very comfortable and much better then other wooden handles but it does attract hair if that matters to you.

I have two Keeshonden, and when they blow their coats at the same time the fur flying around is ridiculous. A Keeshond has a double coat, like a Husky or Pomeranian, so you really need to get at the undercoat and pull out the tangled and loose stuff.

The undercoat gets matted easily, as well. This dematting comb is perfect for getting the undercoat cleaned out. For tougher mats, I use a rocking motion with the tool and hold the fur close to the dog’s skin so it doesn’t pull so much.

This comb works better than any other brush or comb I’ve used.

My dog flips over so I can do her belly, and my housemate’s cat comes running whenever she sees it. It is definitely a finishing brush for critters with double coats. Comb out mats first if your dog has both an undercoat and an overcoat.

Otherwise the brush will get stuck and hurt your critter. But it gets those areas that are just impossible otherwise and makes them look so fluffy!.

Comfortable in hand, however, VERY DISAPPOINTED. Needs to have TWICE the wires to trap the hair. Needs to have at least 25% fewer bristles to penetrate fur to remove hair and everything else mfgr claims.

Would not buy again. However, my cat does love the tips on her skin. But, our deshedder and bare tip wire brush with twice the wires actually removes her excess fur. And she absolutely loves them. I am just concerned about what the bare tips do to her skin from a good brushing.

This cat care hardly get enough brushing, she loves it that much. That is why I bought this brush with the coated wire tips, and bristles so I could brush her tummy without injury to her teats.

Brush purchased for my mini schnauzer. He has a massive coat. I really love the way the slicker side makes his coat feel after I use the other side. He is only 4 months old and will only get a little bigger than he is now, so the brush is a good size.

I also like that it is slightly pointed to get under his arms. The handle is comfortable. I recommend this brush.

My cat hates metallic bristles, but I found out she loves plastic bristles via my vacuum dust attachment. I was in search of something similar to brush her with, and found this brush with the plastic bristles.

Honestly, that vacuum attachment brushes her hair out better than this brush. The issues with this brush are as follow: 1. Awesome look, but not practical. The clump of bristles works against you in both hair accumulation and hair removal.

Once you get about 5 seconds of brushing in, you have to stop to remove the fur, since the brush won’t catch anymore and just spreads loose fur everywhere. It’s also pretty hard to clean the brush. 2.

The brush is good for the top coat, but not the undercoat. I think the bristles need to be softer, or maybe more sparse, to get to the under coat better. 3. It’s a bit clunky when you brush; a more flexible head would improve this product immensely.

Maybe make the top more pointed to get into hard to reach spots? (under the chin, by the ears, under the paws, etc).

I bought this on a whim the other day because I was looking for something to manage my cat’s dander as we get closer to the holiday season, since we always end up having a lot of guests. I wasn’t totally sure if my cat would like this brush because of the metal bristles, but it was on sale for insanely cheap and I thought I may as well try it.

Well. I’ve already tossed her old brush away. She immediately started purring the first time I used this brush on her, and even let me brush part of her tummy, which she is always a hit or miss about.

I could probably brush her for hours with this thing and she’d just sit there in pure bliss. But that isn’t even the best part; this brush is way easier to clean than her old brush, and I can just slide all of the hair and dander the brush picked up straight into the garbage, with barely any of it flying away into the air.

The only thing I wish I had done was get the smaller brush, since I have a smaller cat, but I don’t necessarily mind this regular sized one since it can hold more hair while brushing. I wish I could give this six stars.

It is true that the brush has a mechanism to cleanly eject the fur. HOWEVER, the ejection mechanism is the default. In order to bare the combs in the brush you have to hold down the button on the handle quite firmly, which is tiring and uncomfortable.

But the second you ease up on it, the plastic bar comes up over the slicker tines and ejects the hairs. so its hard to keep up steady brushing. It would be much more satisfactory/useful if the button could lock into place for actual brushing/grooming and then be released to eject the hair.

Yes, its easy to clean; but more difficult that necessary to use as a brush. I was disappointed.

At first I thought i liked this brush, even tho I had a hard time pushing the button. I wasn’t sure if it was because of having finger nails. My dogs liked it better than my other wire bristle brush & I liked that i didn’t have to sit & pick the hair out of the bristles.

But very soon the button started getting more finicky & wouldn’t release, so the self cleaning becomes non existent. After fiddling with the button, it’d release, but then came the fiddling to get it pushed in & to stay.

(so its not my nails). If the button worked as it should, I’d still like the brush, but as is, I kind of hate it. I don’t want to keep fighting with a brush just to brush my dogs.

This is a good product but not one that I would use in the middle of a heavy shed season. This is something I would use on my huskies as an every day but still use my furminator if they were shedding super bad.

This “small” version isn’t just for small dogs, the only difference is the length of the heads, but works for fine big dogs; just might take a little longer to use.

I’ve used many different deshedding products, and I think this one is probably my favorite. I’ve had similar brushes that were made of metal, and my cats hated them because I think it hurt them. This one is plastic and seems to be gentler so the cats don’t mind it, but it still works super well.

Our long haired kitty always over grooms herself and then throws up long sausage hair balls. Ive bought many different combs, brushes, grooming gloves etc but none have been effective due to the teeth being too far apart or too short.

I have purchased several cat brushes through the years. My cat, Sam, loves to get his hair brushed. His ears will let me know when he doesn’t like the bristles on the brush I’m using. OMG! He loves this brush so much he doesn’t want me to stop.

He sees me with it and runs and jumps on his table immediately and is ready for me to brush his hair. He even lets me raise his front paws to brush his belly! I have struggled with other brushes. This is the absolute Perfect Brush and I highly recommend it and so does Sam.

This is the only brush that my cats have ever genuinely liked – and all of them like it, even though they each have very different coats. It’s also perfect for synthetic fur, since it organizes any pile length without being rough on the backer.

I have one copy for textiles, and one copy for my cats. I swear by this brush, and this brush alone.

my cat moves around a lot when being brushed and tends not to like other brushes. he still tries to walk around when i use this one, but at least i can tell he doesn’t hate it. it gets the job done but pulling out all the loose fur from his coat.

i saw other reviews saying it’s sharp; it’s honestly not that sharp at all. i tap my finger against it a few times and it doesn’t hurt, though the bristles are thin so i would avoid brushing the face with this obviously.

very good on the back, sides and tail of the cat and maybe if your cat allows it, the belly should be fine too.

By not getting a self cleaning slicker, i knew cleaning it out would be a pain. But one of the combs I got at a hotel has the perfect spacing and is the perfect size to slide in and lift hair all in one go.

However, the packaging is not very sturdy, so when shipped it got crushed and bent a bunch of the pins back toward the pad. I was able to reshape them enough for the brush to be at least usable again, but did get a few pokes and couldn’t ever get them all the way right.

My cat isn’t shedding much YET, but this brush easily gets through her thick but short coat to lift the dandruff/build up on her rump where she cant reach. This brush actually lifts all the dandruff, so the first time i brushed her I was grossed out.

But the next day, none flaked off – one good session lifted the build up so now it’s just maintenance. she LOVES this brush on her cheeks, but since they are uncapped pins and some are wonky, i had to teach her to hold still so I could control the brush and make sure she didn’t headbutt herself into a poked eye.

Pins are fine enough to feel good but thin enough to have some give, meaning when they hit her skin they flex enough not to scratch or poke her. I wish all the pins worked as ell as those in the original shape, but they mostly-bent back ones I had to re shape post packaging smush are much less effective (1/3 the brush head).

Im obsessed with brushes because I own horses and 2 large dogs who are heavy shedders. Unfortunately for my cats, this obsession transfers over to them as well, so I currently have 8 different brushes that I use on them.

The only kind of brush that I know of that I have not used is a long toothed dematting comb, and it’s because of this brush. My long haired cat NEVER has matts in her fur because this brush works so well that I use it on her briefly every day and it takes care of her shedding and tangling.

She also tolerates it well, and she has VERY sensitive skin so she loathes brushes that pull. Which is most of them. So, according to my cat, this brush barely tugs when I use it. This isn’t a complaint, it’s more of a note, but it’s not the best brush in the world for my 2 short haired cats.

One of them has a very thin undercoat so it’s easy to get out, but the other short hair has an unusually thick undercoat. This brush helps a bit, but a Furblaster used occasionally combined with a normal old $2 hairbrush daily works way better for both of them.

This brush is still good, just not the best. However, it still falls in second place.
