20 Best Dental Products For Dogs (2023 Updated)

A few months ago I noticed that my Bengal cat had some stinky breath and although he lets me groom him in many ways without much fuss (ie, cleaning his eye boogers, cleaning his butt, wiping him down with a warm wash cloth and brushing him), he refuses to let me brush his teeth.

I’ve tried finger brushes with and without pet safe toothpaste and even tried a regular small headed toothbrush (which is better than the finger ones in my opinion) but still all he wanted to do was bite it or brush against it.

When I looked for finger brushes I came across this gem and figured why not. He is also a cancer survivor, having been in clinical remission for 6 months, so his oral health is even more important. My boy drinks a lot of water anyway but loves his water even more it seems.

There is no odor and it says no flavor but there’s something about it that he likes. Anything to get pets to drink more water is great but added bonus it keeps their mouths and teeth clean. His stinky breath is a thing of the past and his well check at the vet showed no issues with some minor plaque.

Considering he is just about 3 years old and I have had him 2 years with no prior cleanings, I am very happy keeping this product going for his life span. Thank you to the inventors of this product!.

I don’t think these do much for dental health. They really are just an expensive high calorie and high sugar treat. I bought these because my dog’s old family had been giving them to her regularly. Her teeth and gums were not in good shape – a lot of plaque, bad breath, etc.

When I took her to the vet, the vet said she would need a dental cleaning. After I told him I had just started brushing her teeth, the vet said we would check in again on her teeth at her next visit.

Since I’ve been brushing her teeth, her teeth and gums have completely turned around. Her teeth have no plaque, are white, she no longer has bad breath, and her gums are healthy. Don’t waste your time with Greenies.

Kip is a 4yr old yorkie that already has a history of dental disease. We began brushing after getting his teeth professionally cleaned at the vet. We started with the “breath fresh” toothpaste by this same brand- Though he enjoyed the taste, we noticed new tartar buildup despite regular brushing.

We then got this “tartar control” product and here is my review: Pros- I noticed a difference in the tartar on his teeth almost immediately. It is magical. I will continue to use this product for that reason alone.

Cons- The smell is the reason I’m giving 4 stars as opposed to 5. Kip used to lick the toothbrush clean when we used the “breath fresh” vanilla toothpaste. He does NOT like the taste of the beef flavor and it leaves his breath smelling very dog-like (aka, not great).

I wish they would create a tartar control toothpaste in the vanilla flavor. Otherwise, this product does exactly what it claims to do.

This is a great product! Picked this up for my first puppy. She loves the flavor! Her teeth are white and she never has bad breath. We’ve been using this kit for over a year now. Never had an issue with the brush breaking or the tube leaking.

My Goldendoodle is white and the charcoal does not stain her beard. Easy to wipe off or she just cleans it off herself. ProTip: use the finger brush for back of teeth. Did not realize this when first starting and she built up some tarter behind her front teeth.

But the more we use the little finger brush, its going away.

This is going to sound fake, but I’m in disbelief how quickly I saw a change. I’ve had the toothbrush and toothpaste for about two weeks. My dogs ear infection lead me to think he had a bad tooth, which lead to this purchase.

I didn’t see and red flags in his mouth, slight inflammation and 1 rear tooth on each side had some plaque. 2 weeks later, all my dogs teeth are whiter, less plaque every brush and inflammation is gone already on one side, almost gone on the other.

My eldest dogs teeth have been neglected other than brushing with each groom. After two brushes, just two, less bad breath and no bleeding gums! Buy this set and take care of your fur babies teeth! FYI, we did treat my dogs ear infection, he’s good 😉.

This toothpaste is enzyme-based, so it keeps working after you stop brushing. Honestly, expect a little pink on the brush—your dog probably hasn’t been brushed so those gums won’t be used to the brushing.

Another big factor of the success of this toothpaste and tooth brushing is the cooperation and temperament of your dog. If your pooch is touchy about her mouth or tries to attack the brush, just get an enzyme wash and call it.

Not worth getting bitten or jabbing your dog painfully in the gums. My experience is to kinda follow the directions on the package. Focus on the base of the tooth where tartar and plaque build up and brush the back of the teeth as well.

Speak very happily and praise your dog liberally, then give them a bone or chewy toy to keep them from immediately taking a drink and washing away the paste. I use this two or three times a week.

WOO HOO! I truly love this toothpaste. It has the highest level of fluoride that I could find in a drugstore toothpaste. I like that it cleans and bubbles up as you clean. I enjoy the flavor and it freshens your breathe.

It is not a whitening toothpaste per the label, but it does a light amount of whitening. I get the double pack at my local Walmart which is a great price.

I use this for my 3 dogs, all pugs. Pugs are notorious for dental problems and for having to have multiple teeth pulled. Pugs have the same number of teeth as any other dog, except their muzzle is super short, and so all their teeth get mashed together in their stubby muzzles.

I am proud to say that none of my dogs have had to have dentals yet, and none have had any teeth pulled! My pugs are age 7, 3, and 3. Certainly by age 7, most dogs will have had a dental, usually due to owners complaining about bad breath.

And during the dental, the dog will usually use some teeth. My 7 year old has not needed a dental! Her breath is still fresh, and in addition, she doesn’t have the tartar buildup that can so often be seen in dogs over 3 or so.

Many other retailers offer this same product – in a smaller size, 16 oz for the same price! The recommended amount is 1 capfull per 16 oz of drinking water. I like to mix up a gallon of it at a time.

A gallon has 128 oz. 128 divided by 16 is 8. So every gallon gets 8 capfulls of product. That way I can just pour from the gallon every time I replace or add to my dogs’ water. Product must be palatable to my dogs.

No one ever avoids drinking. And product clearly has assisted my dogs’ oral health! And canine oral health is definitely important! Neglect of canine oral health can obviously cause pain and discomfort but can also contribute to cardiac (heart) difficulties.

I’ll edit this review depending on how well the product works for my Havanese and my YorkiePoo, but the reason for my three-star neutral review is because the product arrived leaking. I found it odd that this type of product would come without some kind of seal.

I first contacted Chewy via the chat. The customer service agent simply said that “it doesn’t say anything about a seal” which wasn’t initially helpful, but followed up with an offer for a refund or exchange.

For future reference, it would’ve been best to confirm if the bottle was indeed supposed to come with or without a seal. Because I wanted to find out, and because I think Chewy should also be in the know, I went ahead and contacted the manufacturer.

Indeed, there is supposed to be a red seal. However, upon closer inspection, the red seal, which was supposed to be tightly secured to the neck of the bottle was instead stuck to the cap, leaving the contents of the bottle exposed.

That was the reason for the leaky bottle upon arrival.

Brushing your dog’s teeth is a vital part of total dog care; however some days you just miss a step. With this product you can quickly add it to the water bowl and not feel like you missed a day’s worth of brushing.

Some reviews have commented on stool, I haven’t noticed that change because I started off slow in the beginning and built up to the suggested dosage. When trying new products it’s all about monitoring your dog.

I previously bought this product directly from Pet Lab and was on a monthly subscription. I’m happy to see Chewy carries this product as it really did help my huskies with bad breath, whiter teeth and no plaque build up on my younger male husky (vet said his teeth were beautiful for a 6 year old).

I will be adding this to our monthly subscription. I do have to say if you use the recommended dose on huskies it does tend to give them looser stools but huskies have sensitive tummies anyway so I just add a capeful to their water each day.

I personally think this product is genius. The concept is sound and I was extremely excited to add this to our morning regimen. Sadly, my two Pembroke Welsh Corgis did not seem to care for the these.

We used these for almost two weeks each morning. At first they would chew/shred the dental treat but now actually eat much of it. I thought this was fine, since the important thing was the mechanical action of chewing/spreading the “toothpaste” on their teeth and not necessarily eating it.

But after a few days they both just stopped chewing the “treats”. Sometimes they would take them from me and just drop them on the floor, and other times they would smell it and just give me the side eye and refuse to take it.

The other thing to consider is that these things are hard. As I mentioned before, the dogs sometimes shredded them but not eat them. They are a similar color to my hardwood floors and I’d step on shards of them.

It was similar to stepping on a LEGO but without the otherworldly pain (just firm). These do not smell offensive, or like much at all. My guess is they don’t have an appealing flavor. I wish my dogs liked these because I feel these would be more effective than other chews.

If you have a picky eater of a dog, maybe order a pack just to try before doing repeat deliveries. I’ll keep an eye on this product and hope they add new flavors or refine the current one, as my dogs seem to love stinky treats.

I’d recommend the product since it’s unique and potentially game changing. Until then, i’ll continue with the current dental chews and weekly brushing (glad they let me!).

I just started using the Bark Bright product for my two small dogs. It’s too early to know if I’ll see results. My dogs liked the flavor. My wife was not happy about the stains that I had to clean off of the rugs.

The gooey toothpaste is squirt down the center channel. When the dog begins to chew the toothpaste does get all over the floor and the toothpaste is brown and not that easy to get out of our nice rugs.

Luckily I have a solid steam cleaning vacuum. We will only be using these treats outdoors from now on. Hope the results are coming soon. Thanks.

My dog loves this treat and if it works as advertised you can’t beat the benefit for only 14 calories. It is hard to find low calorie treats for small dogs and even harder to find a low calorie dental treat for a small dog.

Very pleased so far. It would be nice to see this with the VOHC seal. In my kit the treats themselves had a future date over 1. 5 years away but the toothpaste had a date 4 months back. I thought the toothpaste was expired.

I contacted Petco and the BarkBox company directly. Both provided quick and polite replies (pleased with both). I learned the the date on the toothpaste was the date of manufacture DOM and that the toothpaste was good for 1 year after being opened.

Just wanted that info in this review incase anyone else was confused by the date and thought it was an expiration date.

Hilariously, my dog absolutely adores this toothpaste (which is a ridiculously odd thing to think, let alone write down). I get the vanilla flavour, because I actually want to freshen his breath, rather than amplify the aroma of pureed meat, so I was doubly amazed he’d into it at all.

I think it works well for him. He’s a large dog, so we go through alot, but his kisses are much more enjoyable for like 40 seconds after brushing (until he eats something else). Now I’m not sure how much actual brushing gets done these days since he figured out that he can enjoy the taste and avoid the irritation of having his teeth brushed by licking it off the brush before I even get it in his mouth.

Such is life I suppose!.

Can use both size in my little dog. Small one to get used to and large works on an other medium size dog that would work well on a large dog too. Larger side can work well inside to get as much area in 3 good swipes faster.

They do get used to it and get a dental treat after which makes them more cooperative in time. They were not crazy about the tooth paste at first, but got used to it. They CANNOT use people toothpaste.

I have used a very small amount of Arm and Hammer soda at times, but check with your VET first. I have brushed their teeth also without toothpaste to get them used to it. In time they will get used to the brushing and you can pick off any plaque with your finger nail if your dog will let you.

If they get frustrated with this process, start out short brushing followed by a small treat. This is just one more way to keep the health of your dog when everything counts to keep them as long as possible with you.

My boy literally eats anything and everything from any type of food to bugs and dryer lint. I never found a single thing he wouldn’t touch until now. I even throw his pills directly into his dish and he eats them up without even having to hide them.

When I offered him this toothpaste he simply just sniffed it and turned his head away. I put a tab on his toothbrush and had him try some that way and he seemed disgusted to say the least. So I decided to try just the tiniest dab to see exactly what the fuss was about because this just is not like him and I was absolutely disgusted myself.

He has had several different brands and flavors of dog friendly toothpaste before with no issues. I would not reccomend this product at all!.

My two dogs are 10 yo and I’ve brushed their teeth at least daily since I’ve had them, they’ve have never had malodor before, since starting to use this product their breath smelled terrible. I had to stop using this product after 2 weeks because I couldn’t take it anymore.

Please save your money and don’t buy!.

Excellent dental kit! I have been using this (USA-made -YAY!), toothpaste for several years. The dogs love the daily morning routine and my vet and I are happy with the noticeable results. Very nice brush and works well with my dogs.

(approx. 50-lbs). I especially appreciate the design with the soft/rubber outside bristles that work well at the gum line. I highly recommend this product for starting and maintaining excellent oral health.

I was a little wary of this to start. My human let me sniff the stuff in the tube and I wasn’t impressed. After some playtime he grabbed me and crammed the blue thing with the stuff in the tube into my mouth.

It actually tastes pretty good! I let him use the brush now. It is a little annoying that he insists on sticking it into my mouth, but I get to taste the tube stuff. He says I’m a good girl and my teeth are looking better after 2 weeks of every other day use!.

I have always been a fan of Nylabone Products, and did not know Central Garden and Pet now owns the company. A new owner but the same great quality Nylabone always has had. When you have a young 3-month-old Service Dog in Training, that loves both her Nylabone to chew and their toothpaste to brush her teeth.

you know it has to be good. If you have the patience to do the preventative care to brush your Canine’s Canines. it will save you the high cost of putting your Canine under for veterinarian’s teeth cleaning which can be much more expensive than a lifetime supply of these dental kits (just one Vet cleaning equals a lifetime of these kits).

Truly an “Ounce of Prevention is worth a Pound of Cure”.

This is the best price I’ve seen for this product. We’ve been using Petzlife spray on our lab-mix dog since she was about six months old. She will be ten years old in December and has not yet needed to have her teeth cleaned by the vet.

We spray her mouth three times a week, before bed.

I would give this more stars if I could. I used several different pet toothpastes with unsatisfactory results. This product actually removes the tartar and keeps my dogs gums healthy. I won’t switch back to toothpaste again.

I have Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and they will lose their tiny teeth if not properly cared for. This product works for them.

TOOTHFULLY, I don’t know where to start with this review. Just kidding! Haha. I have a little WISDOM that I can share with you. I’ll start by saying that the variety of brushes in this box is great! You have the double sided toothbrush that offers a small sized brush for our small mouthed friends, and on the other end you have a brush that’s perfectly sized for our larger canine friends, but if that doesn’t work for you they also offer a finger brush.

Which is wonderful if the toothbrush just isn’t for your companion, and it’s sometimes easier to control. I’d suggest wetting the brush a bit before actually brushing just to make it more comfortable.

The packaging also recommends to let your dog taste the toothpaste before actually brushing and that’s a wonderful tip. Working at a vet and being part of a very large animal community, I’ve been fortunate to try so many different products.

I like this better than a lot of other toothpaste. It’s beef flavored, but it doesn’t have that overwhelming odor that makes you question if you even want to put it in your dog’s mouth. The texture is pleasant too.

It’s not runny, gritty or mushy. The toothpaste is white and smooth and is very similar to human toothpaste. I am pleased with this product, and my dog didn’t dislike it (wasn’t super eager about it, but didn’t hate it).

Why did I give it 3 stars then? This product claims to be natural (sulfate free and BPA free). I did read the ingredients label though and noticed that it contains sodium lauryl sulfate. Now, I am not a scientist, but make what you will of that.

There’s also other toxins in this toothpaste that can potentially be harmful to your pet (I didn’t realize this before purchasing). Do I hate it? No. Do I love it? Meh. Honestly it can be hard to find perfectly natural products for your pet 100% of the time.

I personally do not like the dental treats for pets. Not only do they not really work, but one of the big name brand treats gave my pup pancreatitis. Brushing is a much better option for us. If you do use dental treats, no hard FILLINGS! I would like to make an IMPACT on you though.

Because we’re in this TOOTHGETHER! Will I buy this toothpaste again? Probably not. In actuality toothpaste isn’t what does the trick for your dog’s teeth. It’s the repetition of brushing. So just by brushing your dog’s teeth (without toothpaste) you’re still doing them a huge and maybe even better favor.

This is a great price and my dog loves the toothpaste. The toothbrush is also great for a dog and has a long handle to reach back teeth easily. Highly recommend! Best price out there for dog toothpaste too.

I am a dental hygienist so I know enough to know I highly recommend this product. PS gently brush your dogs teeth in a circular motion up onto gums with the same pressure you use holding a pen.

My indoor cat and 4 barn cats won’t touch this stuff. they’re not too picky about what they eat either. they love canned tuna, canned chicken, all dry and wet foods. But not one of my 5 cats will eat this toothpaste.

I’ve even tried hiding it under a pile of canned tuna and my cats still wouldn’t touch it. I’m really disappointed. In the past I had a poultry flavored pet toothpaste from a different brand that my cats loved the taste of.

But that toothpaste had a strong pultry scent. This toothpaste barely has a scent so I doubt it has much of a flavor.

Hi! My Mom got this ‘cause the vet said I REALLY needed to have my teef cleaned. Mom wanted to see if she could brush my teef herself. Well. my cousin Tank warned me about this. He said to just keep your jaw clenched really tight.

That worked-sorta. The peanut butter toofpaste was okay-and as I opened up to get a better taste, Mom snuck her finger wiff da brush in back. I’m still resisting and Mom still tries-but it’s a learning process-for Mom.

Have used many brands of toothpaste for my pets. This product has excellant texture. Many of products tried are runny. This one isn’t. My pet seems to like the taste. It cleans teeth well and leaves a pleasant scent.

I used the rubber finger cleaner at first. Her mouth was very small. It was easier while getting her used to daily brushing. She is a small Yorkie puppy. Now that she is six months old use the brush.

Her teeth are brushed daily. Recommend this toothpaste !.

I was really excited to receive this product after reading that dogs were in love with the toothpaste. Unfortunately, the package was damaged. Not the box that the package was delivered in, but the packaging that actually protected the products.

Despite the ruined package I still tried out the toothpaste and thankfully my dog likes it. I can’t even use the finger brush that came with it because it was ruined before I got it. I won’t buy this again online but now I know which toothpaste to look for when I go shopping in stores.

We have always brushed our Golden Retrievers teeth. One dog was a Therapy Dog and good oral health was a requirement, so have continued with the process for all of about dogs. The best part of this product is the tooth brush.

It is formed perfectly to get to the back teeth and easy to handle. The tooth paste is alright as is the finger brush. In a perfect world the tooth brush would be sold separately. But all in all a very good product.

I’ve tried all the doggy toothpastes available. This one is the best. The dog’s love it and will even take it as a treat. It doesn’t require brushing and with regular use you do see a reduction in tartar within a few weeks.

I combine it with the Nylabone dental water additive and the foam. Haven’t had to pay a vet for dental work yet. Italian Greyhounds are notorious for dental issues and this toothpaste is a real game changer.

I brush my dog’s teeth twice a day(right after my own teeth). It took me a while to build up to it, but I am now able to brush the front, the back, and all the sides (and I have an 8 lb dog- so the brush was pretty big for her mouth) She loves the peanut butter taste.

It’s best to start with your finger, and only let her lick it off. Then go to rubbing with your finger. After a few times, switch to the brush. Only let her lick it and do not try to brush with it. It will scare your dog.

If she does not like the taste try another style taste instead of peanut butter. Mine would not use the other type. It took a year of brushing before she would let me fit the brush inside her mouth to get the insides of the teeth.

Remember, dogs are different than people. First, this (and as far as I know, all) toothpaste uses enzymes, not fluoride. You do not have to spend 5 minutes on your dogs teeth. Just brush them several times in each place to get the enzymes going.

Also, unlike people, (at least my dog dr has explained) that the most important part is the front of the dogs teeth. unlike people where the back is more important. So if you can not get behind the teeth it is less important.

Take your time. days, weeks, months. What is important is that your dog enjoys it and will want to do it. I also give her a healthy crunchy bone after which is good for her teeth anyway and she has something to look forward to.

Oral care is so important for your pets. Doggy dental is very expensive. I have had to pay for it a few times. This is a great preventative tool. My dogs don’t enjoy their teeth brushed, but they do like the flavor of this toothpaste.

It helps to keep their clean and the rubber brush makes it easier.
