20 Best Dental Chews For Cats (2023 Updated)

Sunshine, my ginger, needs help with keeping her teeth and gums healthy. I just got a bag of DentaLife to see if she’d like them. Pfft. She likes everything TBH. She gobbles these up just as quickly as I can put them down.

I only get treats approved by the VOHC (Veterinary Oral Health Counsel) and this treat is on their list. Two years ago, I was told that I should start saving for future teeth extraction. Dr Russell suggested I give her dental treats bc they help a lot.

He was right. Last month, her vet said her teeth and gums look healthy and to continue dental treats and maybe start brushing her teeth. (um, no. She can brush her teeth if she likes being shredded from limb to limb) DentaLife treats are a hit.

I currently need prescription food and treats for my cat. Just order, provide my vets name & phone number and they take care of the rest for every order. The prescription is good for 1 year. Of course you must visit your vet for the prescription prior to your order.

I buy Royal Canine Satiety Support for my overweight cat. I buy both the dry and canned. He loves this cat food. I also buy the dental treats, not diet. Chewy always promptly ships my orders. I’m on auto ship for his food.

They remind me of my shipment in advance. I can change to a sooner or later date, and can add or delete items if needed. I will continue to use Chewy for all my pets needs. The prices, as well as the convenience, are the best !!.

My cat’s will not eat these. They took one bite and that was it. They will not touch them at all. They turn thier nose up at it. I got different flavors but still will not touch them. I just don’t know why.

I know they are brand name and are very healthy for my cat’s but I just can’t get them to eat them. I wish I knew why? Now I got all of them bags I bought just sitting on the shelf doing nothing. This has nothing to do with chewy personal cause it’s just the product my cat’s don’t like.

So just buy one bag first to see if your cat will eat them before you do like I did and buy a bunch at one time. Still love ya chewy you are still the bestest in the world to me :- ).

I bought a few PetStages toys for our 4-year-old cat who loves to play, both with us and on her own. She loves everything I got, including this toy. She can pick it up and toss it around. It’s lightweight so easy for her to play with.

She’s a shelter cat, and the previous owner had her so badly declawed that her paws were injured. So it’s a challenge to find the right toys for her paws. Sometimes she uses her mouth to pick up toys.

This toy works well. I’m leaving this same review on other PetStages toys we got from Chewy. Highly recommended.

Teething or not, I have one kitten that just likes to chew on everything, especially coming out of anesthesia (which he’s unfortunately had to do a few times already in his short life). This & the other teething toy have been extremely helpful to help keeping him from chewing on things he shouldn’t.

Both kittens like to play with these and carry them around in their mouths! Too cute.

I’ve had cats for 45 years and have been buying toys for just as long. However, I’ve never had a cat who actually played with a toy until my female Tortie. Sasha will play with me or by herself. She carries the large dental toy with her to the living room during the day, and puts it at the foot of the bed at night.

Hilarious fun to watch her play!.

Having had a diabetic cat in the past (treated for 2 years before he passed) I’m well versed in cat nutrition, especially carbohydrates, moisture content and nutrients+ingredients. We currently have 4 cats and we’ve highly limited carbs and other harmful ingredients as much as we can in their twice daily meals.

These treats aren’t much different from the other brands available, but they’re healthier than most that are in the same price range and retail availability. We’d normally never give treats, however, these treats have become necessary to reinforce good behaviour.

One of the cats was diagnosed with asthma in late 2019 and we have to give him medication every night. This involves a special aerochamber (AeroKat) and an inhaler. He has to take 14 full breaths while wearing the mask piece before he’s released from his light hold spot on our kitchen counter.

At first he was very resistant (as you can imagine. ), but we quickly learned that the best way to make this as easy and less traumatic as possible (he’s had traumatic vet visits and is very fearful of being restrained) is to give him a treat afterwards to reward him for his good behaviour and cooperation.

As a result, every night around 9pm he has his cute little routine of meowing and rolling around next to the cabinet where we keep the treats. He knows the routine and he’s looking forward to his treat! 😊 However, if you’ve had multiple cats at once you’ll know what that means lol The other 3 cats are also in the kitchen waiting for a treat! There’s no way to avoid breaking their hearts if we were to only give him a treat and not the others.

so they each get one (or 2 if my husband is doing it) after the inhaler has been done. Obviously, 4+ treats per day means that the bags are too expensive and get emptied quickly. So we’ve been buying the 9.

75 oz value size tubs from Amazon which is cheaper overall, more convenient and less wasteful, but the treats still kind of dry out over time because the seal of the top isn’t. well, sealed. That’s why I removed a star.

I like that they’re not too moist or slimy (they don’t rot or get sticky), they’re small (but not too small either, can be used with teenage kittens), and they don’t smell horrible (I still wash my hands afterwards because it’s not a pleasant smell to constantly have on your hands).

The catnip flavour is a favourite, but the salmon one is a good one too. Chicken wasn’t well liked. However, I wish that the label was removable instead of printed on. They’re great sized containers that I’d like to reuse, but I haven’t found any way to remove the label.

It would be a plus in my opinion of the company as it would show a bit more that they care about the environment and encourage reusing their packaging. The small size of the bags are wasteful in my opinion since they go straight to the trash once empty.

Last note: I just noticed that they recommend 8 treats twice a day for a 10 lbs cat. That’s ridiculous. They’re marketed as dental treats, but I don’t think they’re big enough to do any cleaning. At that rate their nutritional intake is going to be highly negatively impacted while maybe getting a slight gum/teeth stimulation.

I don’t recommend that, especially if you already feed your cat dry food. Also, one of my cats swallows it whole 98% of the time, so it’s not necessarily good for all cats. I suggest buying a small pouch to try it out first.

We originally bought these Catnip Greenies for our cats to assist them with teeth & gum health. An unexpected good side effect is that the catnip has had another positive side effect on one of our cats well being.

Jemima has always had an unusual personality- she was quite cranky and did not like to be touched at all. She seemed to want to be stroked as she would purr but would very quickly bite whoever was stroking her.

We just accepted that was her and put it down to early trauma as she was a stray & skinny kitten when we found her at 3 months old. She is now four years old and has always been like this – until the catnip Greenies! The catnip Greenies have completely changed her personality! She is now very cuddly, revels in a vigorous stroking session and seeks us out to snuggle! She seems much more relaxed and happy! We give her the recommended 8 biscuits a day and this keeps her calm & happy! Our other cat has the same, but it doesn’t seem to have the same affect or much of any affect on him – he’s always been very relaxed anyway.

So, I highly recommend anyone whose cat is a little anxious (or weirdly bites!) to give them a try – she’s clearly much happier and now gets to enjoy cuddles!.

I have two cats, one of whom is quite the glutton and will eat almost anything (except neither cat will touch the freeze-dried treats from a certain famous chef and his Maine Coon). So, I really wasn’t expecting them to not eat this, but I was shocked when the gluttonous cat actually TROTS to get these treats! He usually just sits there and loudly demands food, but for these he will actively move his body to get to them before the other cat! These are pretty big, so they don’t need as many of them.

I guess that’s also good because they are actually forced to chew them, hence the dental cleaning aspect. We have purchased lots of other dental treats which are smaller that the cats basically swallow whole.

I took off one star because all of the Greenies treats are much more expensive than the other brands, but if you’re just looking for a review on whether the cats like them they get 5 stars. If they actually work to keep their teeth clean (too soon to tell), then I guess it’s worth it.

Otherwise they’re just pretty expensive treats.

Our cats love to play with and chase AvoCATo. Because of the odd shape it bounces any which way and they love that. We taught our newest cat to retrieve. AvoCATo is great for that because it has a mesh backing that he can dig his teeth into.

Definitely recommend for any kitties.

My young, high energy, cat loves this. He likes the way it bounces so he can pounce and play on his own. He likes how soft it is, so he can sleep cuddled up to it. He likes chewing on the mesh. Everything about this is a slam dunk, and it’s withstood him playing pretty hard and chewing on it almost constantly when he’s awake.

It’s a good size, very light, so he can carry it or we can throw/bounce it for him.

My cat is super obsessed with this avocado toy. She has MANY toys include catnip toys but this one is her favorite. She HOWLS when she plays with it like she just caught some wild game. She carries it around in her mouth wherever she goes.

She is not a particularly active cat so it’s awesome to see her getting some exercise in when she plays with this toy.

Good news, after on package shared between my Labrador and English Mastiff both seemed to have a reduction in plaque. They both have been given other “dental chews” for a couple years with less noticeable results.

They also get a raw chicken leg and thigh for one meal each day. Less good news, I bought these on sale and looked in vain for a quantity on the package. The answer was inside after opening; 13 chews.

Rather pricy for me with the two dogs. I will probably work them into an intermittent routine to save some money and have them do their work at the same time. Or, I could just brush their teeth?.

So I had bought a small pack of the xs chews and I was quite impressed. My dogs just went bonkers for these! As soon as Olly sees my opening up the jar that I store them in, he starts drooling right away and Lola spins around in circles! They go through these pretty fast so I bought the small size in the 32oz case and I cut each stick into 4 pieces so I get a lot more and it lasts a longer time.

I like that it’s all natural and it’s helped with keeping their teeth clean and fresh. I have 2 chihuahuas so tooth maintenance is very important. I still brush once in a while just to keep it really good! Great product.

Liberty a female 65lb black Labrador Retriever loves these logs. She will jump to the task when she sees me go near the box. Kudos for the 4-1 54oz size. I suddest doing that for the 5-1 also. I Cut the 4-1 in half, one piece after breakfast and the other after dinner.

After the last walk she gets a full 5-1. Her teeth at 5yrs old are beautiful. The missing star is due to the product’s price. Overall, she is one happy pup when she knows it’s Ark time!.

our cat loves this. We love greenies and have been buying this for him before we were offered this campaign offer. So our cat’s breath stinks when he yawns but I can assure you that after a few of these, his breath becomes neutral.

also my cat hates brushing his teeth so giving him a couple of these really makes in between brushes dental care easy for us. when you just shake the bag, he comes running so I think that says it all.

It’s easy to shop from this brand because our cat is picky about flavours in treats for other treat brands, but he is willing to eat all the products from greenies regardless of the flavours it comes in.

Another thing for people who care about calories and treat quality, i can really trust this brand because it specified that it has no artificial flavours or preservatives or fillers and it is vet recommended.

There are so many flavours and sizes and types of treats to choose from so thats a bonus.

Purina recently changed its formula and the packaging on this website does not reflect the NEW package that you will actually receive in the mail, that contains the new formula. My cat HATES it and won’t touch it.

Too bad, because he used to enjoy his morning treats every morning. Now I have to find another brand but beware if you are expecting the OLD formula when you buy this pouch. It’s the new one and it’s completely different – the look of it, everything.

These are the only treats my cat will eat. He loves the salmon flavor and the crunchiness. These treats are perfect for his puzzle toys. It will keep for days. I was so disappointment when Autoship stated the hard plastic containers were discontinued.

My rescued cat at 8. 5 years old still has separation anxiety so it was so heartbreaking for me every morning when I’d leave for work. I’ve tried many things and found a few helpful solutions, the best being THESE greenies treats.

I read to distract her with a treat as I leave so wanted something healthy that she’d enjoy that I didn’t worry giving her every morning. Since I heard greenies are healthy, I tried a package of these and OMG….

She LOVES them!!! So, I now order the large containers of these (note the regular greenies she’ll eat but she loves this crunchy variety) as I give her some every morning when I leave for work. And, not only does she live them but others have commented on how soft her fur is (I thought it was softer but when my daughter came home from college she confirmed that she noticed it was much softer and shinier too).

So, these are not only lived by my fur baby but so lived by me for blessings us both in helping her with her anxiety as I transition to leave. I always order another container when I open the last one so we never run out.

She actually jumps up on my bed as I put on my shoes these days excitedly waiting for her greenies… praise God her desperate anxious meowing has been replaced with excitement for me to give her greenies as I leave.

She still greats me at the door purring like crazy when I get home so eager to be cuddled but her anxiety has been significantly reduced … as long as we don’t run out of greenies. 😊.

Hey, my two furry champs love these. They will come out of wherever they are if they hear these! It is the only way I can find my cats in a pinch for a headcount. I am not sure what they do for hairballs.

and frankly at this point it doesn’t matter because they love them and it is the only quick fast way to get a headcount that these are now as important as the cat liter and cat food. I got these becuase one of my cats has pooping problems.

Hard rock hard pellet poop only every other or third day. I tried EVERYTHING. The best perfect poop comes out of her body with Xanax so she apparently is super stressed all the time. But this little bear (cat) doesn’t like to the lack of zest from xanax so she refuses to eat and knows when it is and isn’t in her food).

So after trying loads of other items. I was into human magensiums options. and my mom and I went through her medicine cabinet and did a sort of refuse search of the type of human laxative and is it safe for cats.

I had to have one without a flavor. Cherry and bubblegum are not really going to be a cat pleaser. She had a powder miralax that had absolutely NO flavor. So tried it. Gave her a pinch. and voila. It came out – still like pellets, but at least it is moving each day now.

The pinch wasn’t enough so she is at 2 pinches. Still comes out rock hard, but at least it isn’t mustard colored and dry. it it dark brown pellet poop and once day. She is SO HAPPY. She doesn’t mind the food (small amount of wetfood only so she eats the whole thing) mixed with 2 pinches of miralax.

eats with joy, clean plate award each time. This is thee ONLY thing that has ever worked. I share because I tried everythign and the vets are peddling expensive stuff that is messy, and causes a human cat battle of wills and is just plain exhausting.

Headsup. I only do it daily becuase this situation with her is nuts. I am hyper vigilant and study the poop each morning to make sure she needs it or what is happening. It is only a fraction of what she probably needs.

My dsh tiger kitty has always had skin issues. Allergic to fleas or something in the past and especially from anxiety. She wasn’t socialized properly during those couple critical weeks as a kitten because she was born wild in the woods before found and brought to a humane society for adoption.

She is bonded to me, which is wonderful! However she still has experiences anxiety at times. Ex. When someone comes to visit, she sees a neighborhood cat outside etc then she starts to itch like crazy causing tons of scabs.

We address the anxiety, but to help with the skin she has a diet of sensitive skin/stomach cat food as well as these treats and it has helped aid in preventing the itching SO MUCH. At one point her entire back half was bald and since we started using these and purina one sensitive food, she is now fully grown back and thriving.

Definitely don’t listen to the directions on the package. Yikes that’s a TON of treats. I only give my cat 2-4/day max. Usually only 2.

Some background: My kitty, Bubbles, is SUPER picky with all food and treats. She’s also 16 yrs old and recently diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer. She is on daily prednisone pills and getting them in her was such a chore – I almost felt like I was hurting her.

I have to give my cat a pill twice a day and greenies pill pockets changed my life. I went from using a pet pill dispenser fighting a wild mini tiger to gently packing a pill into a pill pocket that this untamed indoor cat would literally beg for the minute he heard the bag crinkle.

Then life struck a cruel blow. I had to buy a new bag of greenies. I was a little alarmed when the new pockets were a much lighter color. Then I was increasingly concerned when I went to place a new pill in the pocket and they were much softer and waxier feeling.

Needless to say my cat rejected this new recipe. I am now back to a twice daily battle to keep my cat alive with a pill dispenser. Please change back to the old recipe. I’m sure these new ones are cheaper, I mean “cost effective” to make, but the new product is inferior.

I’m not the only one, my vet has has some cats that will no longer accept the greenies pill pockets either.

Okay so my Holman got a little package in the post a few days ago. She opened it up and pulled out a bag with a picture of a strange cat on it – I was not impressed – well that was until she cut it open! The smell was lovely so I wandered over and reached up for a closer sniff, she then poured out a couple of these little balls and offered them to me.

I gobbled them up – delicious! I wanted more but she said I couldn’t have any more today. 5 minutes later I snuck a paw up onto the coffee table and stole the bag, scattering the little tasty balls all over the floor.

She didn’t notice until I started crunching as fast as I could until they were all gone! But now I have to wait until she buys some :-(.

Hello everyone, I have two little rescue cats Hollie & Viva. Viva is particularly fond of wet gravy tea, BUT Hollie is a treat fiend that scoffs down, without chewing, a well known cat treat. however 4 days ago my dentalife treats arrived, round, aromatic and crunchy.

she had to bite, chew and crunch her way through the chicken treats. They did not even last a day, but I was happy in the knowledge at the same time she was wolfing them down, her teeth were being looked after, a massive concern now that she is on the cusp of being now a ‘senior cat’ in a couple of years.

Both my cats enjoyed the chicken treats, and I enjoyed that Dentalife treats were enjoying their teeth. Both my cats recommend, and they don’t lie. :).

The new Dentalife daily oral care treats product by Purina is amazing! My cat is very fussy and for that reason I call her prima-donna. She has her standards and oh boy, they are high! The moment she saw the packet, she was all over it and oh dear, she not only approved the product, but she actually liked it! She kept asking for more and constantly looking in the corner where I placed the packet.

You are supposed to give your cat 17 treats per day which I found a bit too excessive, so I’m giving my cat 8 treats in the morning and 8 in the evening. It’s good to know she is having a treat and also keeping her teeth healthy.

These treats seem to work well as my cat’s build-up of tartar disappeared. I started to use this product after being told by a vet that my cat had tartar built-up on her teeth. We had our first vet’s appointment after my cat started to use the product and the vet complimented the condition of my 9-year old cat!.

We have three chihhuahuas, one of who is a senior and one of who is probably a mini. I intended to give eachof them one treat per day. However, I really only ended up giving them to the younger of the regular sized chihuhuas.

The mini could not eat them. Neither could the elderly dog who is missing some teeth. They were simply too hard. Maybe I should have tried the mini size instead. That being said, the teeth of the dog who could eat these are noticeably cleaner.

I really do believe they work well in that respect. There was also a bit of a smell associated with the treat, so she was a bit hesitant at first. After eating a few though, she seemed to enjoy them I would definitely recommend Everyday Naturals if you are concerned about your dog’s dental health.

Just be sure to get the proper product per animal size and understand that dogs with missing teeth may not be able to eat them. For total transparency, I received this product for free in exchange for my review.

We have 3 cats, and all three absolutely LOVE these! I was previously giving them Greenies every night as a dental treat for their dental health, but I wanted something with healthier ingredients than the Greenies.

We had previously switched all our cats and dogs over to all WholeHearted foods, both canned and dry (because we love the healthier ingredient lists, and all our animals really have liked all the new foods and treats from WholeHearted).

We tried the dental treats in the chicken flavor and every cat goes nuts for these every night before bedtime. Thank you Petco!.

these were a hit. He actually bit them too so it felt like it did something dental-wise, which is obviously part of why you’d buy this. They have a slight crinkle which makes all the difference. The shrimp itself is quite stiff so when you flick the tail it makes the crinkle noise and mr kitty is very interested in what i’m holding, then i toss it and it’s flossing time! The only thing i would improve here is to add a second eyeball to each shrimp (each shrimp only has one large, flat disc-shaped eyeball).

I don’t even think this two-dimensional oversized eye registers in my cat’s brain that it’s supposed to represent an eyeball. Make the thing spherical, ideally two spherical googly eyes that move around when you shake the thing.

4/5 stars though as is, good toy – i will probably buy more.

My dog expects one of these every night before bedtime! We call them his nightsticks! He loves them! They were first recommended to us by the receptionist in my vets office who said she gives to her dogs every night.

The small chews are perfect for any small/medium dog. I tried the next size up one time and my dog did not like them nor could he break them like the small ones. These are sometimes hard to find but I have bought them on Amazon before and behind the counter at Banfield.

I definitely would recommend if you are looking for a dental chew for your dog!.

This product was recommended by our vet. William is a rat terrier and prone to what the vet called terrier mouth. He has a rough time keeping his teeth clean. Hates it when I brush his teeth. These chews really help keep the tarter build up down and he loves them.

It’s a win-win. William is part of the family. I do everything possible to make him know he is loved everyday of his life.

She did not need a professional cleaning until this year (4. 5 years old), thanks to these in addition to brushing. We will continue to use them to maintain her dental health between her yearly cleanings.

The only complaint is that she sometimes tries to swallow pieces that are too large and have not softened up enough, which causes her to gag/choke, but she is always able to bring it back up and try again (gross, but honest lol).
