20 Best Dematting Tool For Doodles (2023 Updated)

I am very impressed with this dematter tool. My groomer was unavailable for 3 months and I knew if I couldn’t comb out the fur-matts, I’d be looking at shaved dogs in March. I bought this tool and gave it a try this evening… I was able to remove a lot of matts on my first try (4 dogs).

I tried with and without detangler spray, no noticeable difference, except the spray annoyed the dogs …and made them smell better during the process (which I liked). I am admittedly a lazy owner when it comes to grooming (which is why I rely on a groomer).

I’m grateful that I found this tool and that all the dogs tolerated the process. I wish I had known about this tool years ago. By the way. the dog pictured always knots up the hair on the top of her head and I don’t know how she does it… I’ve never caught her break-dancing head-spins… but I was able to get the terrible matts out within approximately 30 minutes.

I studied the reviews on Chewy before getting the Dematting Comb for my cat. The reviews were right. That is the best comb ever. My cat had four places her fur on top of her back had matted together right down to her tail.

When it came I set the comb on the floor and let her sniff it all over. I acted all excited like it was a treat and when she got on me I let her sniff it and then just barely went over the tops of the mats.

I did that a few times during the day making sure not to get under it and get snagged. By the end of the second day all the mats were gone and the third day she would go to where I had it setting wanting to be combed.

I can now use the side of the comb where the teeth are closer together. You will not be sorry if you buy this comb and do as I did.

I have a cat with long hair. It mats just awful, this time of the year. He is an outdoor feral cat, but comes inside to see us, I have had a terrible time getting the mats out, and he just hates it when I do.

This product helped so much. It doesn’t come with instructions, so you need to watch a video on how it works. It seems to cut into the mat and makes it come out so much easier than trying to do it with a comb or brush.

He seems to tolerate it and not meow or hiss at me while I do it. Highly recommend getting this product!.

Was skeptical given the price but worked like a champ first time out on our 17yo cat that had some badly matted fur.

This is a high quality product that works as advertised!

It doesnt matter one jot whether I like this brush or not, Im not the one having my fur brushed. But if you could ask my little Westie if she likes it, shed give an overwhelming paws up & a tail wag.

The other groomer brush I have is the stainless steel bristles type, & she hates it. Its uncomfortable for her her & she tries to get away when I try to brush her. This Wahl slicker brush on the other hand is completely different.

It has nylon bristles that are topped with little balls on the end & not hard on her skin like the other brush. Because of the ball ends on the bristles it kind of massages her & now she actually enjoys being groomed.

She even turns it into a kind of game when I brush her face & neck & doesnt run away from it at first sight. So, to sum up, on her behalf I can definitely recommend this brush. My only issue is I wish I had bought a larger size but thats really not an issue cuz she likes me brushing her & dont mind how long it takes so a from both of us.

Thanks to a sample pack Weruva sent us, we’ve tried out several varieties of this wonderful brand that are new to us. My kitty liked Splash Dance the best! Good texture for an older cat (small bits in an au jus, but not too soupy), without the large chicken shreds other varieties have.

(There was a delivery snafu, but that was FedEx’s fault, not Chewy’s! And Chewy’s customer service was very supportive. it always is!).

My cats have always loved this food, and it has been consistently reliable in content and texture. The last order (May 2021), however, it looks different content-wise (more fluid and a different color), and my cats do not like it.

I’m hoping it was just that particular batch. Chewy, wonderful as always, is refunding/replacing. I give this product 5 stars for its normal quality; the last batch I would give 1 star. Hoping things get back to the normal 5-star quality.

So, when I took this out of the box, I went, “Dang, the tines on this are way smaller than I thought. this brush probably won’t do anything. ” The animal I got it for is my long-haired cat. He’s a bit overweight and let some mats happen in his back fur as a result, and he usually hates grooming, so I had trouble getting him to let me brush him out.

I’ve used some other de-matting tools, and they weren’t bad, but he didn’t like me using them. I think this brush has fixed that problem. My kitty started purring immediately when I used it on him, he mewed at me pitifully when I tried to stop, and rubbed his face all over the brush when I set it down.

And despite its short tines, it pulls out a truly amazing amount of his excess undercoat hair! It also helped me work out one of the mats, and gently remove the other two (left a balder spot, but he wasn’t in pain, and that’s when I tried to stop and he mewed at me and grabbed at my hand with his paw).

The only downside is that after a couple of strokes with the brush, I have to stop and quickly pull the removed hair off of the brush because it’s fairly shallow. I think the shallow tines are part of why my cat finds it so comfy though, so, worth it.

So yeah. 100% recommend. This brush is magic. At least, that’s what my cat seems to think!.

Wow!! I added this to my autoship with the intention of removing. Only because I wasn’t sure I wanted to spend this amount of money. Well…the autoship shipped and it was too late. I’m so glad it did!! My order just arrived and We tried it out right away.

This is the most AMAZING deshedding tool I’ve ever used on my cat! He loves it and so do I. He begs for more brushing! I expect the fur on my carpet and corners of my hardwoods will be a lot less by using this awesome tool daily.

I used this for my long haired cat as she has mattes I need to get out. It couldn’t get under the mattes to cut them out, and did more pulling out hair than cutting out the parts I needed. I’m wondering if it’s because it was the size of the brush to cat? It felt clumsy.

I could potentially see this working for a dog better, if the dog is over 20lbs.

I have a feral cat that lives in my carport. I can pet her ONLY when she is eating. (twice a day) She is a short hair but has a very dense undercoat. This year she developed terrible mats on her back, probably because she is a little bit rotund, and I didn’t think she would let me work the mats loose.

This product worked wonders! It took me several days of just working each mat for the few minutes she would allow me to brush/touch her but I got them all out much faster than I could have ever hoped.

I could tell they were starting to hurt her and I thought I was going to have to take her to the vet to be sedated and shaved, which would have been very traumatic for her and possibly set back the trust that I have gained over three years with her.

So I am very happy with this product and recommend it to anyone who has a cat or dog that is prone to mats. You do have to be very gentle and slow with it, but it works wonderfully.

My old guy, Len, is 16 years old and can’t groom himself anymore. As a result, he gets mats in his fur – usually on his chest, base of tail and haunches. He has VERY sensitive skin so I was a bit worried about using this on him, but we started out very slow and very gently with him, only working on one spot for a few minutes each day.

As he got used to it, he started accepting longer grooming times and now, all of his mats are gone! When we de-mattify him, instead of taking long strokes thru his fur like you would when brushing with a normal brush, we take short, gentle pats like you would if you were detangling a toddler’s hair.

Even with this gentle approach and light touch, this thing has worked wonders. Highly recommended!.

Removing Matted hair from my cats had always been a long and tedious task until I used the Four Paws Magic Coat Professional Series Instant Mat & Tangle Remover! I read other’s comments and figured I try it.

I lightly ran the remover over the matted area and was surprised how effective it worked! I would work at it until my cat would tell me enough! In the course of 4-5 days I removed the matts with surprisingly little complaints from the cat! I’m still not sure how it worked! The tines were not sharp but the spacing of the tines must have been why it was so effective! WORTH EVERY PENNY SPENT!.

Maybe I’m not doing it correctly, but I’ve tried following instructions and glide it through my dog’s fur, he doesn’t like it, he acts as if it is bothering him even when I am very careful and take it slow.

I’m a bit concerned about using it as he tends to wiggle and dodge around rather than sitting still. I caught a mat but was unable to break it up to remove it as he was way too annoyed with me by that point.

I feel this is probably a fine tool as long as your dog stays still. I’ve also tried using it on my cat who gets terrible mats during the winter on his belly, he was about to kill me for attempting and he reached out to swipe me, which he doesn’t do in general.

Again, likely caused by user error. I rated it a 4 because I had difficulty getting a small mat behind my puppy’s ear, I mean I was unable to get the comb part to go into the mat to help break it up as it was a tiny and narrow mat, not much to fur to work with and it was close to his skin as well.

Other than that it seems like a decent tool. I will keep trying, maybe I just need to get the hang of it first.

My medium haired grey cat has an undercoat that can mat pretty easily. She also has some white fur that is a completely different, more stringy consistency in her “bib” area which gets food caught in it daily.

I was amazed how well this gets her undercoat out! That will certainly help with the matting. It is small but that helps reach the bib area. I really wish it came left handed. I think you can change the blades but no way I’m going to attempt that potential failure.

She tolerates it slightly more than her slicker brush too.

My dog gets thick mats. This does a great job breaking through them. I use a treat dispenser with peanut butter to distract him and then work through his hair. You need to hold the hair so it doesn’t pull from the skin; but it works well.

I was nervous about cutting myself, or him, with the tool, but have had no issues.

Comb really helps grooming and keeping control of matting for our golden retriever.

This comb does the trick for mats in my cats fur. It does the job without upsetting my cats!! A must for long haired pets!!

I was desperate (which is never a good start for a pet parent) since my Goldendoodle had come home from an appointment with a new groomer with mats. I know, it sounds odd to come HOME that way and I was horrified as well, but for some reason she didn’t blow dry him and my fluffy guy dried all knotted up on his stomach.

I cut off a few of the really horrible ones, but he wouldn’t even let me touch some of the other areas, and I just didn’t know what to do. I looked on the Chewy site, and then watched a few videos I found online, and the one I saw for this brush made it look so easy.

so easy that I thought “how can a $6 brush actually work?” but again, I just needed something so I ordered and it was here the next day (yay for Chewy!). I was AMAZED that this really does work out the mats, and from the reaction I got, my Doodle barely felt it.

There is some sort of “magic” in the way the brush’s pins are shaped into a “V”, and all I can say is that the matting drama is over. Take your time, hold onto the mat and gently work the brush through.

you will be amazed at what comes off! After attacking the mats, I then brushed his fluffy legs just to see what else this magic thing would do, and a lot of loose fluff brushed right off (it is Spring, so that winter coat is coming off).

I have 2 Akita’s. One long coat and one normal. My long coat gets mats behind her ears which is why I purchased this brush. My Akita’s blow coat twice a year and usually last about a month and takes lots of brushing.

This brush by far the best brush I have ever used. My normal coat Akita loves to be brushed and After brushing him with this brush 2 days in a row all of his undercoat that he started blowing is gone! It gets all the loose hair out so easily! My long coat is taking a little longer due to her not liking me brushing her and the amount of hair she has but it got the mats out very quickly and she is looking much better!.
